XJ Cruise Control Wiring *HAVE DIAGRAM* Need Help

  • Add to quote

Ok, I am trying to wire my 1994 XJ Cherokee with cruise control. Just picked up a servo from a junk yard for the cruise and all the wiring is there for it to hook up to and I verified that it is there on the PCM side as well. Now all I need to do is wire the control switches in and here lies the problem: I want to make custom switches cause my model comes with the switches on the turn signal arm and I want toggles on the dash to control it. I have the wiring diagram I just cant decipher it. This is what I got and I need to know what needs to be connected by a switch. Wires: "Coast/Set" = Brown/Red (To PCM) "Resume/Accel" = White/Light Green (To PCM) "unknown" = White (To F12 Splice) "unknown" = Yellow/Red (To Harness under dash to Ignition on PCM) Those are the four wires that go from the crusie switches on the turn signal arm to either the PCM, F12 Splice, or harness under the dash to PCM. I have included the wiring diagrams for the speed control so you can check them out and see where I am. I am stuck and not sure what I need to connect to the switch and what connection needs to be made when the switches are "on". Oh and switch positions for the origional turn signal arm are as follows: Set/Coast Resume/Accelerate Crusie On/Off

any ideas??? I am really stuck here

OK well I think I am pretty much talking to myself now lol, but I sat down with a few people and this diagram and I think we have it figured on how to make your own cruise control switches. I am in the process of getting a diagram. Let me know if you are also trying to do this. I would be happy to help.

I need to add cruise control to my '92, I dont mine the turn signal switch, I found a cherokee at the junkyard with all the parts.. could you give me nay tips on how to do it?

[xj-s] Cruise Control cable

My old cable was too frayed to fit into the little barrel connector so I’ve bought a new cable. How on earth do I find the old connection under the dashboard. I’ve removed the lower trim and I can see the throttle cable end, the cruise cable is above that looking from the engine side so how do I get to it? The cruise works as I was able to connect enough strands of the old wire to test the cruise and it worked fine, but I can’t trust 2 or 3 strands. Thanks guys for any insight to this problem. cable in my 1990 XJ-S convertible this past spring. It’s a bit tricky, but you have to loosen the panel that the cable passes through in the engine bay to access the end of the cable. There are four or five large screws holding the panel in place. Once you loosen the plate and move it slightly aside, you will see how the cable is connected.

list and I will send the to you off list.

Thanks for the reply Paul, I have 3 of those screws removed the fourth screw is hidden under a hose clamp for the heater and the screw is rusty so its soaking in PB blaster. I’ll remove it today hopefully, and go from there. I guss I am not in a really good position to opine. My bellows isn’t munted, although, I have fresh stand offs for doing so. the cable is just laying there resting. I/ve never been much of a CC user. I’ve fooled with it just for the fun. I installed an aftermarket unit in my IHC Scout II decades ago.

I consider it rather Odd that Jaguar routes the cable back into the cabin to attach tho the throttle there. In the case if the V12, the turnstile seems so much more logical and trouble free. In the 4.2, ther must be aplace along the throttle cable to attach the crujise cable. Same objective.

Were I to decide to enable cruise in my XJ wuzza six, I would use the metallic bellows and the existing cable as it is there and in good order. If not, I’d go to the capstan/turnstile.

My Scout kit used a ball chan to enable adjustment by slipping the right bsll into a slot. it worked pretty darn well.

My Jeep uses a metallic bellows. come to think of it, I don’t recall ever using the cruise in it as long as I’ve owned it.

Enough rant off to coffee and beeakfast for the poodle. he gets kibble topped with chopped turkey. Me possibly buttered wheat toast topped with Vegemite.

Gotta work on setting up the new to me Dell desk top today. It’s on line by wire, gotta get it wireless.

Three computers around here now, although, the old Compaq is so obsolete, I dunno what it can do anymore. but, very reliable over a bunch of years, unklike the now gone HP!!! Made in USA, hmmmm

I think it was done to prevent the throttle cable coming out of its track on the capstan. With the arrangement that exists, the capstan thinks the throttle cable is being pulled as normal. If you twist the capstan by hand (as in the equivaent of the bellows pulling the capstan directly) you can see that the cable loosens up into a loop, which might mean it would malfunction.

Mind you, I have taken my CC off entirely, much easier to see what’s what in the V etc.

Marmite is the Britsh version of Vegemite, by the by, abd there is much discussion of their relative merits. If you like vegemite and have never tasted Marmite, you have a treat in store!

connects to a rod and is held in place with a washer and a cotter pin. Remove the cotter pin and washer and then you can remove the cable end. Then remove the fitting at the end of the old cable and put it on your new cable. Installation is the reverse of removal.
