In a recent interview with Ireland's Overdrive , VOLBEAT frontman Michael Poulsen spoke about how the band's eighth album, 2021's "Servant Of The Mind" , fits into VOLBEAT 's discography. He said: "For me, this album feels like the way we used to do things back in the day. It felt like a rebirth of what we did in the beginning and then taking the experience of being better songwriters with more heavy stuff. It still feels very new because we're only just getting to promote the album and play these songs live."

He continued: "What I've also noticed is that the album seems to have settled a lot of divided opinions with our fans, and for once they all seem to agree with each other. [ Laughs ] After so many albums, there are people that have their favorites, and in this case, they all seem to have stopped arguing with each other [ laughs ], and collectively like this latest release. It's nice to see them all getting along — for once."

Poulsen also talked about the challenges of recording "Servant Of The Mind" considering that three members of VOLBEAT are based in Denmark while guitarist Rob Caggiano lives in New York.

"For the records that we've done with Rob , we always book two studios," Michael explained. "He has a certain way of working that takes a lot of time. That's just his way. For us, we like to work really fast and spontaneously, and that's just the way we all connect with the music. We respect the way Rob works, but for me, I don't like to spend so much time focusing on certain things, as I feel it will lose its magic. [ Rob ] puts in a lot of hours, and likes to go deep into the structure of the song, working his parts into the arrangements. That's just his way of working, so that's why we always book two studios.

"When it came to 'Servant' , it made no sense to me to just sit around, and wait for the pandemic to blow over. I would take my kids to kindergarten, and just go home, and write as much as I could, all day long. I did that for three months, consistently. Jon [ Larsen , drums], Kaspar [ Boye Larsen , bass] and I then booked a studio where we hammered out the album in about a week. Rob then booked a studio in New York, and he used a lot of time to put his parts together. That being said, I think it's some of the best work he's done to date. His solos are fantastic, and they work so well with the music.

"At the end of the day, the whole experience was really fun for me. We worked very hard, and then sent over the files to Rob , where he laid down his parts, and the whole process just felt very natural, considering that Rob couldn't come to Denmark even if he wanted to."

"Servant Of The Mind" , was released in December 2021 via Republic Records .

Revolver called "Servant Of The Mind" "excellent… the darkest and heaviest VOLBEAT offering yet." For the LP, the band took its signature heavy metal, psychobilly and punk 'n' roll sound up a notch while showcasing Poulsen 's keen ability for songwriting and storytelling. "Rarely has such a successful band sounded so ravenous," said Kerrang! magazine of the album.

"Servant Of The Mind" includes the "double barrel" of summer songs the band released in June 2021: "Wait A Minute My Girl" and "Dagen Før" (featuring Stine Bramsen ),the former of which became the band's ninth number one single on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.

Volbeat are a Danish metal band that was formed in Copenhagen, Denmark. Their music style is a combination of rock and roll and heavy metal.

The current line up consists of vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, bassist Anders Kjølholm, Jon Larsen on drums and Rob Caggiano, also on guitar. Poulsen formed the band after becoming disillusioned with the current death metal music scene. Their first album, released in 2005, was entitled ‘The Strength/The Sound/The Songs’ and was a huge success in their home country of Denmark, reaching number 18 on the country’s charts. Following this, the band produced four more albums, switched record labels and lost and gained members on their journey to success. The band is currently signed to Dutch label Mascot Records and has released five albums to date, to great success. All five of these albums are gold certified in Denmark.

Volbeat cite their musical inspirations as coming from a variety of sources, from classic rock and roll artists such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, to modern hard rock, heavy metal, alternative rock and hard core groups. Some of Volbeat’s greatest songs include ‘Still Counting’, ‘A Warrior’s Call’, ‘Sad Man’s Tongue’ and ‘Lola Montez’. The band has played with artists such as Metallica and Nightwish and enjoyed several world tours. They have also performed at several high profile festivals, including the UK’s Download festival.

Live reviews

Volbeat put on an amazing show at Rock AM Ring 2013. Fresh off of their latest release, Outlaw gentlemen & Shady ladies, Volbeat ripped through a brilliant 70 plus minute set, featuring several songs from their outstanding new release. Highlights include the outstanding 'The hangmans body count', Pearl Hart and Dead but Rising.

Volbeat played in front of an huge festival crowd that was eager and energetic throughout the show, which took place under sunny skies. Other Highlights of the show included a staple of their live set, 'Guitar Gangster and Cadillac Blood' , along with a very nice mix of cover songs ranging from Johnny Cash's Ring of fire, to Judas Priests Breaking the law to Slayers Regin in blood to Ramsteins Keine Lust.

Vocalist and rhythm guitar player Micheal Poulsen's biggest musical influence was Mr. Johnny Cash. All in all, the band ripped through 18 tracks without mercy, showing unrelenting energy and enthusiasm throughout. Volbeat is one of the best live acts you can see, and watching them play fills one with a sense of pleasure and freedom, allowing the listener to get lost in the music and brilliant performance. Volbeat was, without a doubt, one of the major high points of the Rock Am Ring festival of 2013.

The opening band for the night was Black Wizard. A Canadian four piece band with long hair and a big sound. They were a good start for the night.

Killswitch Engage played next and had an epic set! I had not seen them live before and I enjoyed the experience. Their set was full of all their well known songs from 'My curse' to the new 'Hate by design'.

Volbeat followed opening with a tribute to Lemmy, playing the beginning of 'born to raise hell' over the speakers, then coming out to begin the concert playing 'The devils bleeding crown' to the crowds approval. The rest night was slightly marred by technical difficulties when Mr. Poulsens head set wouldn't work correctly. He soldiered on playing a solid set! I had seen them before and liked the added mikes on the staging so the band could move around more.

The venue was good and the show well attended. The staff was efficient and polite. The VIP area was a bit disappointing so I spent most of the concert out and about.

I normally do not write reviews for concerts, but I feel obligated on this occasion. Last night's show was the worst I've ever seen. I left after two or three songs as it was awful. The crowd that stayed seemed to enjoy the band once they started their show. However, I don't understand their appeal.

I have been to many metal shows - probably 15 in the last three years. Volbeat is NOT a metal band. I don't know what the hell they are. It sounded like I was listening to a bad alternative radio station live and in person. I was not alone. Scores of fans were walking out of the show early into their set.

I go to metal shows to support bands that don't necessarily get the accolades and fame of a mainstream artist. In my humble opinion, Volbeat is everything that is wrong with music today. I will never attend any future concerts if they are on the bill.

Thanks for a super concert and an unforgettable day/night in Parken, Copenhagen....

Was it my daughter or was it the two old parents who had been looking the most forward, to yet another concert with VOLBEAT.

We were lucky enough to come backstage and see everything from the “other side”

That also included a Meet & Greet and off course a super fantastic concert delivered by VOLBEAT and not to forget the guest appearances from Johan Olsen, Barney Greenway, Danko Jones, Lars Ulrich and more…

But it was still not quite enough for our daughter. ... She ended up on stage together with other lucky little ones in the last number - Still Counting - This to a huge roar from almost 50.000 people.

In short terms – It can’t get much better. THANKS for everything.

We look forward to seeing you again.

Got to the show as Avatar was just finished up playing. Volbeat took to the stage and it was all over then..so I thought. Volbeat ROCKED the house with "The Devil's Bleeding Crown" and played the songs from "Above Heaven/Beyond Hell". It was just like listening to the album as everything was note for note, timing was perfect, couldn't distinguish between the album and performance. Volbeat rocked the house for 45 minutes and ended with "Still Counting". Not alot of nonsensical talking but serious rocking, if you missed it YOU really missed it.It was amazing to hear how many people were singing along at the same time with the music. This show will be etched into my mind forever, I waited awhile to see them again, and I hope they will be back around sooner than later. Like I said, if you missed the show, you missed an awesome performance!

This was my first Volbeat concert and I simply wished to hear some of my favorite songs. It turned out to be such a fantastic show it left me in awe long time after it ended.

I must say it was also the first concert that I went to where in my opinion the levels of sound of each instrument and vocals were configured perfectly. Each instrument was really being heard loud and clear. Suddenly at some point during the concert millions of confetti (white and red) were shot in the air and rained on people. Later on huge balloons were thrown toward audience and made an interesting effect bouncing all over the place. I should also mention the stage that seemed to be made of screens displaying animations adequate to the songs being played. All in all great experience. Would go see Volbeat again.

What can I say about my FAVORITE band of all time. No words. My very first VOLBEAT concert and it was AWESOME!! The sound and vocals were amazing. Overall, performance a perfect '10'. I was not disappointed at all. The topper would have been a meet/greet with the band. Now that would have been a dream come true! I love Michael's voice and all the songs. I became a VOLBEAT fan 5 years ago, while listening to the local rock station, one of their songs was played. I was hooked, line and sinker. Bought all their albums and researched the band and fell in love.

Thanks VOLBEAT for a memorable night!

(Maybe next concert I can get a meet/greet with Michael)

I am 48 years old & I've seen a lot of great bands put on some really great shows. I love all types of music from M.Haggard to Pantara even some of the older Rap but Volbeat is by far the best live show I have EVER SEEN. They became my favorite band about 3 years ago & I've seen them live twice so far and will see them every chance I get. My wife hates metal but after going with me to see Volbeat my second time in OKC she absolutely fell in love with their music & Michael Poulsen. We are both die hard VOLBEAT FANS FOR LIFE!!! Can't wait to see them again. Really hopeing to get to meet the guys next time. Volbeat are a must see if you haven't already.

Great show overall. It was my first time in this location and my first time volbeat.

Danko Jones did a great job as opener. I have seen them before. I like them a lot because you can feel the enjoyment they have performing.

Baroness came second, and they sounded great. Haven't heard them before, so I didn't know what to expect. I liked thier style and sound, but they seemed a bit too 'slow' to really fit in this lineup. But great anyways!

Then there was Volbeat, and the crowd got insane. The sound was great, everybody - from the band, to the crowd - had a blast!

Thank you for this great evening :)

Volbeat’s Michael Poulsen Lays Out Band’s Plan for 2024

There's some good news and some bad news if you're a Volbeat fan. Frontman Michael Poulsen , fresh off a Volbeat tour with Halestorm, checked in online with an update detailing what the plan is for 2024.

"So what's up next?," says Poulsen midway into the update. "Now we're home and we're going to use some time on family, our kids and we're not going to tour next year."

But before fans get a little too bummed, the singer reveals, "But, we are going to write a new album and go into the studio to record the album, so next time we are on the road, it'll be with a bunch of new songs. Can't wait. A lot of great ideas for the next record so we will get started working on that."

This would be the band's ninth studio album and the follow-up to 2021's Servant of the Mind . However, things will be a little different for the band as the group split with longtime guitarist Rob Caggiano just prior to the last tour leg that they fulfilled. Flemming C. Lund stepped in for the band to fulfill their touring commitments, but it has not been revealed who will handle the guitar parts for the band in the studio alongside Poulsen, drummer Jon Larsen and bassist Kasper Boye Larsen.

And while Poulsen won't be out on tour with Volbeat, he does reveal that he will be onstage in another capacity. "Since Volbeat is not touring next year, I will be on the road with Asinhell. Check 'em out. And again, thank you for your amazing support. You rock."

For those not aware, Asinhell is Poulsen's new band alongside vocalist Marc Grewe and Raunchy drummer Morten Toft Hansen. The group finds the Volbeat frontman, who once played in the death metal band Dominus, returning to more of a death metal sound. Look for the band's Impii Hora album arriving this fall.

What to know about the Moscow concert attack and what's next in the case

There were calls Monday for harsh punishment for those behind the attack on the Russian concert hall that killed more than 130 people, as authorities combed the burnt-out ruins of the shopping and entertainment complex in search of more bodies.

MOSCOW — Russia is still reeling from Friday's attack by gunmen who killed and stabbed scores of people before setting fire to the Crocus City concert hall outside Moscow — the worst terrorist attack in the country in over a decade.

The assault came less than a week after President Vladimir Putin claimed a landslide victory in a pro-forma election the Kremlin presented as an endorsement of Putin's war in Ukraine and promised defense of the Russian homeland from a hostile West.

Throughout the weekend, authorities marked a grim rise in the death count— as recovery teams discovered additional bodies and other victims succumbed to injuries.

As of Monday, authorities said at least 137 people, including three children, had died, with more than 180 still in hospital.

Here are other key developments.

What is ISIS-K, the group that claims it carried out the Moscow concert attack?

Suspects have been charged and some show signs of torture.

Four suspects — all reportedly from Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic — were charged with committing acts of terror in a closed Moscow court hearing late Sunday night. A court statement said the men — identified as Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, 32; Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, 30; Shamsidin Fariduni, 25; and Mukhammadsobir Faizov, 19 — all pled guilty to participating in the attack and shooting innocent civilians.

Yet in a brief appearance before the media, the suspects all showed outward signs of torture and duress.

One was brought into court with a bandage over his ear — the result, according to a video released by Russia's security services, of an interrogator severing it with a knife. Another was brought in a wheelchair, only partially conscious and with apparent trauma to his eye. A third had bruises on his face and a ripped plastic bag around his neck. A video leaked by security forces to social media appeared to show an agent electrocuting another suspect's genitalia.

On Monday, Russian authorities announced three additional arrests in the case.

Russia designated Sunday as a day of national mourning

Sunday marked a day of national mourning — with tributes to the victims held in cities across the country. A national billboard campaign ran ads that showed a candle with the words "We Mourn." Long lines were seen at blood donation centers in Moscow and other major cities.

People stand next to an advertising screen displaying an image of a lit candle and the slogan "(We) Mourn 22.03.2024" in Novosibirsk on March 23, a day after a gun attack on the Crocus City Hall.

Russian Orthodox priests, including Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, a key Kremlin ally, held vigils and prayers for the victims. At the site of the massacre, an impromptu memorial had mushroomed into a mountain of flowers, candles, and other tributes by Sunday evening. An audiovisual presentation beamed images of flying cranes on the walls of the concert hall accompanied by stirring music — a tribute to the victims that was broadcast on state media and shared online.

Putin has yet to visit the site of the attack and the Kremlin indicated on Monday he had no plans to. Instead, the government released a video over the weekend that showed Putin lighting a candle to honor victims at a private Orthodox church at his residence outside Moscow.

Security failures occurred despite U.S. warnings, which Putin dismissed as fearmongering

The brazen attack appears to have if not damaged, then at least punctured, Putin's reputation as a leader known for maintaining order and security.

Moreover, he had warnings.

Two weeks ago, the U.S. Embassy shared reports — both through private government channels to Russia and to the public on its website — that it had intelligence suggesting an attack on a public space in Moscow was imminent.

In this grab taken from video released by the Investigative Committee of Russia on Saturday, March 23, investigators from the Investigative Committee of Russia examine the burned concert hall after an attack on the Crocus City Hall outside Moscow, Russia.

Yet three days before the assault on Crocus City Hall, Putin dismissed the American claims as fearmongering. Speaking to the chiefs of Russia's Federal Security Service, the Russian leader said the warnings were "provocative" and "resemble outright blackmail and the intention to intimidate and destabilize our society."

Russian critics of the government argue the security failure signaled the Kremlin's obsession with cracking down on what it perceives as domestic challengers — such as Russians opposed to the invasion of Ukraine, followers of the late opposition leader Alexey Navalny and Russia's LGBT community — rather than legitimate threats.

Accounts of heroism have emerged from the attack

While social media accounts quickly captured the full horror of the carnage, accounts of heroism have also emerged. In particular, Russian media have zeroed in on the actions of Islam Khalilov, 15, a high school student originally from Kyrgyzstan who worked as a coat check attendant during the concert.

Video from the night of the attack shows Khalilov leading a large group of people — said to number around 100 — through the winding hallways of the concert venue and out to safety.

"I understood if I don't react [and help], then I'll lose my life and those of many people," said Khalilov, in an interview with Russian media. "But honestly, it was terrifying."

A Russian rapper has since offered to send Khalikov a 1 million ruble reward — $10,000 — for his heroism.

Putin is blaming Ukraine, despite ISIS-K claims of responsibility

The Islamic State Khorasan Province or ISIS-K — an ISIS-linked group that emerged in 2014 and 2015 in Afghanistan and Pakistan — has claimed responsibility for the attack. ISIS-linked social media channels have since published graphic footage of the assault filmed by the attackers. The U.S. says its own assessments confirm the ISIS claim.

Yet Russian officials, and state media, have largely ignored any Islamic State link — focusing almost exclusively on a possible Ukrainian connection. Speaking to the nation in a video address Saturday, Putin said, without evidence, that the attackers were detained while fleeing to the Ukrainian border — where "preliminary information" showed someone on "the Ukrainian side" was preparing to ferry them to safety.

People lay flowers and light candles next to the Crocus City Hall, on the western edge of Moscow, Saturday, March 23.

Other Russian officials — such as the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova — have suggested that any U.S. statements were intended to steer attention away from Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials have vehemently denied involvement — calling the accusations a Kremlin attempt to marshal Russian public support for an increasingly unpopular war.

With the suspects now charged, a trial could get underway as soon as late May. If convicted, the men face possible life in prison. Russia currently has a moratorium on the death penalty — although the carnage at Crocus City has raised calls by leading political figures to change course.

Meanwhile, attention will now shift back to the Kremlin's messaging on the attack itself. Putin has vowed to retaliate against any and all involved. The concern — both at home and abroad — is that opens a new expansion of the war in Ukraine, whatever the truth.

Therefore, starting the city tour with Red Square is ideal . Several buildings are on the square, but not all of them have to be visited. Check out my blog post about Moscow’s Red Square in detail to learn more and not miss anything.

Take a walk in Zariadye park: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow after visiting Red Square

Zaryadie Park is just a 10-minute walk from St. Basil’s Cathedral, so it’s easy to include in your itinerary if you’re going to visit Moscow in 2 days. From its heights, you can see the red walls of the Kremlin. But, the most impressive point of view is the platform which overlooks the Moskva river. A must see! And clearly one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • Good to know! Park Zaryadye is also a place to visit in Moscow in winter. Find out more here: What to do in Moscow in winter?

Visit the Moscow Kremlin

Visit Kremlin is on top of things to do in Moscow. A place of power for centuries, the Kremlin then shows us a whole different image when viewed from the inside. If you want to visit Moscow in 2 days, the Kremlin is certainly one of the must-see places in Moscow.

  • Opening hours : Daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thursday.

Moscow Kremlin: skip-the-line tickets and 8 things not to miss

Visit the Cathedral of Christ the Savior

This impressive Moscow Cathedral is the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is a must see if you visit Moscow in 2 days and clearly one of the things to do in Moscow. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior was first built in 1883 in memory of Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s Grand Army. Then in 1931 Stalin ordered its destruction. It was then rebuilt again (identically) only in 2000.

  • Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 15. At the foot of the Kropotkinskaya metro station.
  • Opening hours . Daily: 10: 00-17: 00, except Monday: 13: 00-17: 00
  • Free entry (some closing restrictions, for example a short)

Good to know! In orthodox religious places, one must avoid excessively uncovered clothing. Women should cover their heads. After visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you can explore Bolotny Island and Gorky Park. This is one of the routes our guide to Moscow.

Cathedral of Christ the Savior

The old Krasny Oktyabr factory: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow

If you cross the Moskva River by a pedestrian bridge which is located just in front of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the city and at the same time you can discover Balchug Island. Furthermore, if you want to visit Moscow in 2 days, you can include this island in your itinerary between the cathedral and Gorky park. Here is the old confectionery factory Krasny Oktyabr, which has gradually turned into a fashionable micro-district. There are then some elements of street art, cafes and restaurants and some Moscow bohemian side. At the end of the island you can see a gigantic 98-meter-high monument dedicated to the Russian reforming tsar Pierre The Great.

Good to know! You can find on this island are the trendiest nightclubs in Moscow. On weekends, there are taxi caps after midnight so there are so many people. On the other hand, if you go there in winter and during the day, the island is quite empty and less interesting to see.

Gorky Park is one of the TOP places to visit in Moscow, because it allows you to better understand the life of the locals and their rhythm. In fact, it’s a huge entertainment park. For example, in winter there is a giant ice rink and in summer – free dance or yoga lessons, sandy beaches for playing volleyball, an outdoor cinema. So, like the locals, have a Stakantchik (ice cream or cooked corn), and enjoy the atmosphere of the place: that’s one of the interesting things to do in Moscow to discover the city.

  • Where? Krymsky Val 9. 20 minutes’ walk from Krasny Oktyabr, along the quays.

Sparrow Hill and Moscow State University

The Sparrow Hill, Vorobiovy Gori in Russian, is the highest point in Moscow. It is rather known to Russians, but less to travelers. A nice view on Moscow opens from the hill, and in particular on the Luzhniki Stadium. In addition, on the hill itself is the Moscow State University: an impressive skyscraper from the Soviet era.

  • How to get there? By bus T7 (35 min) from Oktyaborskaya station, near Gorki Park. By metro (Vorobiovy Gorki station) + climb the hill on foot. On foot along the Moskva along the Gorky Park (1h30) + climb in funiculars.

Good to know! It is possible to cross the Moskva river by funicular. We actually tested it and it was pretty cool! That is one of our favorite things to do in Moscow!

What to do in Moscow

What to do in Moscow in 3 days?

If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days, it would be interesting to dive into the Soviet era which strongly marked the country and the city. After the Bolshevik Revolution, the capital was transferred from Saint Petersburg to Moscow, in order to mark the change of power. Moscow then became the world showcase for communist ideology. Here are the best things to do in Moscow for 3-day-trip!

VDNKh, visit Moscow of the Soviet era

VDNKh is a large exhibition center in the north of Moscow, where there are still several striking witnesses of the USSR. The most interesting are the Museum of Cosmonauts and the Statue of the Worker and the Kolkhozian , which will certainly impress you with its size!

Visit

GULAG History Museum

The explanations of the museum are very well done. We really have the feeling of going back in time. If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days and you are interested in history and this subject in particular, I recommend this museum. Visit the GULAG History Museum is one of the most interesting things to do in Moscow.

Discover the Patriarche Pounds district

It’s a nice neighborhood in Moscow where you can come across rather affluent locals, but not necessarily very bling-bling. Take a walk in this area is really a cool thing to do in Moscow! In addition, the Ponds of Patriarch is one of the places of Bulgakov’s novel “Master and Margarita”. As this is an interesting area to see, we have included it in a walking tour of Moscow. The route ends at the Moscow Kremlin, which is very convenient, because you will be able to visit Moscow in 3 days by optimizing your trips.

What to visit in Moscow in 4 days: TOP things to do in Moscow in 4 days

If you want to visit Moscow in 3 days, you will already see a lot of things. On the other hand, if you stay one more day, you have plenty to do! The Novodevichy Convent, the Tchistie Proudy district and the Izmaylovo Kremlin are very good candidates for you, if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days.

Visiting Novodevichy Convent in Moscow

The Novodevichy Convent is one of the most brilliant examples of Russian architecture, according to UNESCO. This beautiful complex was built in 1524 and today consists of the convent, but also of a cemetery whose status could be compared to that of Père-Lachaise in Paris. Visiting Novodevichy Convent is one of the great things to do in Moscow, if you want to go a little bit outside of the center!

What to see in Moscow in one day

Discovering Tchistye Proudy district

It’s one of the most popular areas of Moscow, with many cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. It is therefore a place to discover if you want to visit Moscow in 4 days. It is just as pleasant for a stroll as for the discovery of local life. For example, in winter the pond turns into an ice rink.

Visiting the Izmaylovo Kremlin, one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

The Izmaylovo Kremlin is more of a tourist than a historic place. On the other hand, it is a pretty impressive place to discover, especially on weekends. Inside the Kremlin, there is a flea market where you can find a little bit of everything, but mostly good souvenirs to bring from Moscow. For example, chapka, traditional Russian scarves or matryoshka (Russian dolls). Add the Kremlin and the Izmaïlovo market to your itinerary if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days, because it is a nice and very colorful place! Visiting the Izmailovo Kremlin is one of the things to do in Moscow, if you want to put colors in your Instagram account! 😉

Things to do Moscow blog

In 4 days, we will have the opportunity to see several Moscow: Classic Moscow, Moscow of old Russia, Soviet Moscow and a little bit of the new Moscow. So what to visit in Moscow on the 5th day of travel?

What to visit in Moscow in 5 days?

Art lovers will be delighted to discover the Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, while others will prefer to stroll along Arbat Street, see the buildings of Moskva-City or visit Bunker 42.

Admiring Russian art at Tretyakov Gallery

Founded in 1856 by an industrialist and great lover of art, the gallery has grown over the decades, and then bequeathed to the state. Today the collection includes more than 140,000 pieces, 15,000 of which are paintings. Visiting the Tretyakov Gallery is one of the things to do in Moscow if you want to discover Russian art!

  • Where? Pereoulok Lavrouchinski 10. A 5-minute walk from Tretiakovskaya station
  • Opening hours. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Closed on Mondays.
  • Entry tickets. 500 RUB.

Museum to see

Visiting the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts presents the treasures of ancient Egypt, the paintings of Rembrandt and Cézanne, a fine collection of Impressionism.

  • Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 12
  • Opening hours. Daily: 10: 00-20: 00, except Thursday: 11: 00-21: 00. Closed on Mondays. The boxes close an hour before closing.
  • Entry tickets. The prices vary according to the collections from 300 to 750 RUB.

Walking on Arbat Street

All Russians know Rue Arbat. So, walking on Arbat street is one of the things to do in Moscow. However, after the years, little by little it became very touristy. This is a pedestrian street only. There are souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes there, but it is no longer the most authentic neighborhood in the city.

Seeing the buildings of Moskva-City (Moscow City)

Moskva-City is Moscow’s business center, much like Paris’s Defense district. The skyscrapers of Moskva-City are among the tallest in Europe: 373 meters high! Very nice place to see at dusk.

Good to know! You can admire a nice view of Moscow City from the docks of Tarasa Shevchenko. It’s especially beautiful in the evening with all the lights on.

Bunker 42, one of the most unusual things to do in Moscow

Bunker 42 is a secret military complex which was to be used by the Soviets in the event of a nuclear attack: a space of 7000 m² 65 meters underground!

  • Where? 5 Kotelnitcheski Lane, 11.
  • Prices. 2200 RUB per person
  • Opening hours. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Restaurant inside. Original, but rather a tourist trap.

What to visit in Moscow in 6 days or more?

There are still so many places to see, because Moscow is a big megalopolis and there is always something exciting to do there. For example: the ancient Kolomenskoye village or the WINZAVOD contemporary art center .

If you are interested in history and want to see Russian cities on a rather “human scale”, it would certainly be interesting for you to discover the cities of the Golden Ring . For example, it is very easy to get to Sergey Posad from Moscow (less than 2 hours in train). Visiting the Golden Ring is one of the best things to do in Moscow if you are staying more than a 5-6 days.

There are still plenty of places to see in Moscow, however I did my best to list here the best things to do in Moscow, what to see in Moscow in one day, but also in 2, 3, 4 or 5 days in Moscow!

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?

Iconic British heavy metal veterans Iron Maiden have added a Phoenix date to the North American leg of the Future Past Tour, playing Footprint Center on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, with Mongolian metal greats the Hu.

No further shows will be announced for North America.

The Hu issued a statement saying, “Iron Maiden is the master of the masters of rock music. They are one of the biggest inspirations to us! The way that they create and perform their music is majestic and we still remember the first time we heard their ‘Trooper’ song and felt the deep energy behind each word.”

Iron Maiden last played Phoenix on the Legacy of the Beast Tour in 2019 .

This will be their 17th performance in the Valley since playing Memorial Coliseum on June 4, 1981, as part of the Killer World Tour, their first time in the U.S.

They also played Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver alongside their highly praised appearance at California’s Power Trip Festival in October, which had Consequence raving “Iron Maiden set the bar high at Power Trip” and The Desert Sun saying they “delivered a hard-hitting performance to open the festival on a high note."

Tony finau remembers his first time playing with scottie scheffler on the pga tour, when he shot a quiet 59, share this article.

Tony Finau was grouped with Adam Scott and eventual champion Scottie Scheffler for the first two rounds of the 2022 Masters, and after the first 36 holes at Augusta National Golf Club he knew that Scheffler would be rocking the green jacket come Sunday.

The two have gotten to know each other well over the last few years as members on the PGA Tour and teammates on both the U.S. Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams, and ahead of this week’s 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open, the defending champion Finau was asked what impresses him most about the world No. 1. Finau spoke about Scheffler’s talents on the course and his positive reputation off of it, but the best part of the answer was a story he told about the first time the pair played together.

“The first time I played with Scottie, I didn’t really know who he was because he was a rookie on the PGA Tour and I played with him at TPC Boston,” said Finau, remembering the 2020 Northern Trust. “We’re playing together and after nine holes I think he shoots like 7 under or whatever. I’m not really paying attention, kind of focused on my own game. We got to No. 17 and he makes another birdie. I look over to my caddie and I’m like, ‘Man, this guy’s got to be 8 or 9 under,’ and my caddie’s like, ‘How about 11?’”

“So anyways, he birdies the last hole to shoot 59,” laughed Finau. “I knew he was a good player. But anyways, that was the first time I played with Scottie, he shot a 59 at TPC Boston and I knew he was special from that moment on.”

Imagine being so locked into your own round that you don’t even realize your playing partner is on track for a sub-60 day. Only Scheffler could shoot a quiet, efficient 59.

Finau will start his title defense at 1:53 p.m. ET on Thursday alongside reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark and Si Woo Kim.

The First Look: Texas Children's Houston Open

The First Look

Change Text Size

With respect to Beyoncé, this is Texas.

The PGA TOUR heads back to Houston for the Texas Children’s Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course where Tony Finau is the defending champion.

However, he’ll have to hold off world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler – returning to action after back-to-back wins on the PGA TOUR.

This tournament was last held in November 2022, and with the PGA TOUR returning to a calendar-year schedule for 2024, it was not held in 2023.

So, with the tournament’s return, here’s everything else you need to know as the TOUR begins its Texas two-step in Houston.

FIELD NOTES: Scottie Scheffler returns to action after his dramatic win at THE PLAYERS Championship. Scheffler has won two events in a row on the PGA TOUR (the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard prior to his triumph at TPC Sawgrass) and has not finished outside the top 20 in any event so far this season. He’s looking to become the first golfer to win three straight events on the PGA TOUR since 2017. Scheffler has notched back-to-back top-10s in Houston and shares the course record at Memorial Park, an 8-under 62… Wyndham Clark, who fell one lipped-out birdie try short of tying Scheffler at THE PLAYERS, is back in action. Clark, a winner already this season, finished 16th at Memorial Park in 2022 – his best career finish in Houston… Tony Finau looks to become the first person to successfully defend his title in Houston since Vijay Singh in 2004-05. Finau has made seven of eight cuts so far this season. He’s had a mixed bag of results at this golf course, with a T24 and a missed cut the other finishes at Memorial Park… Texan Will Zalatoris is hoping to rebound from an early exit at THE PLAYERS. Zalatoris had two top-five finishes in a row at Signature Events before missing the cut at TPC Sawgrass. This is Zalatoris’ tournament debut in Houston… Peter Malnati is back in action after finding the winner’s circle at the Valspar Championship. Malnati’s triumph just outside Tampa was his first TOUR title in more than 3,000 days… Other notables in the field include Sahith Theegala, Jason Day, and Nick Dunlap … This is the final week prior to the world top-50 cutoff to qualify for the Masters. Amongst those in the field this week in Houston and needing an excellent finish to get to Augusta National include TOUR winners Tom Hoge (No. 57) and Mackenzie Hughes (No. 63) plus 10-time DP World Tour winner Alex Noren (No. 64).

SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS: Sam Bennett , the 2022 U.S. Amateur champion, will make his 2024 PGA TOUR debut. Bennett, a Texas A&M alum, has played five events on the Korn Ferry Tour this season with three top-25 results… Cole Hammer, the University of Texas alum, will also make his PGA TOUR debut in 2024 this week in Houston. Hammer has made six starts on the Korn Ferry Tour this season with two top-10s. He finished 27th at Memorial Park last season… Texan Ryan Palmer will make his 502nd start on the PGA TOUR and his 16th appearance in Houston. He has one top-10 result at this tournament in his career… Kris Ventura will tee it up on the PGA TOUR for the first time since September 2021. Ventura, who lost in a playoff at the 117 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro on the Korn Ferry Tour earlier this month, was part of the 2018 NCAA Championship-winning team at Oklahoma State alongside Viktor Hovland… Padraig Harrington is back in action on the PGA TOUR. Harrington won the Hoag Classic on PGA TOUR Champions Sunday by one shot, his seventh PGA TOUR Champions title… Adam Long , Dawie van der Walt , and Jimmy Walker round out the sponsor exemptions.

Peter Malnati sees family dream come true with win at Valspar

COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: Nick Taylor jumped back into the TOUR TOP 10 with his T64 at the Valspar Championship bumping Brian Harman to No. 11 after Harman missed the cut at Innisbrook Resort… The rest of the TOUR TOP 10 remained the same after the final event of the Florida Swing… Valspar winner Peter Malnati jumped all the way to 16th in the standings, about 150 points back of Taylor at No. 10… Two players have remained inside the TOUR TOP 10 for every week so far this season: Chris Kirk and Byeong Hun An.

FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 500 FedExCup points.

COURSE: Memorial Park Golf Course, par 70, 7,435 yards. A municipal course that can trace its origins to 1912, it underwent a dramatic recent renovation in 2019 via Tom Doak before welcoming the PGA TOUR back after nearly 60 years. Holes were both lengthened and shortened and trees and bunkers were removed and re-worked.

72-HOLE RECORD: 264, Tony Finau (2022)

18-HOLE RECORD: 62, Ron Streck (3rd round, 1981 at Woodlands CC), Fred Funk (3rd round, 1992 at TPC Woodlands). Golf Club of Houston record: 63, Johnson Wagner (1st round, 2008), Adam Scott (1st round, 2008), Jimmy Walker (1st round, 2011), Phil Mickelson (3rd round, 2011), Scott Piercy (1st round, 2015), Sung Kang (2nd round, 2017).

  • Memorial Park Golf Course record: 62, Scottie Scheffler (2nd round, 2021), Tony Finau (2nd round, 2022)

LAST TIME: Tony Finau’s steady 1-under 69 Sunday was enough for him to cruise to a four-shot victory. Finau took the lead after the opening round and never looked back. It was his fifth PGA TOUR title. After an opening-round 65, Finau pressed the gas pedal with an 8-under 62 at Memorial Park tying his career-low score on the PGA TOUR. After a third-round 68, Finau had an eight-shot advantage at one point Sunday and ended with a four-shot win and a 16-under 264 for the week – a tournament scoring record. Tyson Alexander finished second at 12 under while Ben Taylor was third at 11 under.
