  • Trekking Near Nainital: 6 Treks That’ll Show You The Best Natural Wonders

23 Mar 2023

If you are from one of the northern states of India, chances are, that you have already been to Nainital as a young child. Even those that haven’t been to Nainital know about its significance as a tourist hill station.

With that said, young adventurers often think that there is not a lot of adventure in the Nainital Valley. A bit of boating in the Naini Jheel (Lake), a stroll down the infamous Mall Road, and picturesque views of the valley are all that most visitors expect from their Nainital trip. The same, however, is far from the truth, at least for those that are willing to go the extra mile in search of adventure. If you count yourself in this category, read on to find out about exciting trails for hiking and trekking near Nainital .

6 Spots That Are Best For Trekking Near Nainital

For an interesting trip around the town of Nainital, you must consider planning an adventurous experience at the below-listed treks that are located at a close distance from the town!

1. Tiffin’s Top

hills and homes

Among the known things to do in Nainital, besides the ones mentioned earlier, is taking a ride in the Nainital trolley. The trolley car takes visitors up to a nearby peak known as Tiffin’s Top (also known as Dorothy’s Peak).

While the ride in the trolley car does offer some breathtaking views of the mountain city and its surroundings, it’s not exactly an adventurous experience.

Those looking to add a bit of a thrill to their journey to Tiffin’s Top can take the alternative route, that involves a short hike to the top of the Tiffin Top peak.

The hike starts at the centre of Nainital city and is perfect for all interests and fitness levels. It takes you through lush green forests and awe-inspiring views will keep you company throughout the 4 kilometer trek.

Additional Info: For Bollywood fans, the view from Tiffin’s Top offers a small surprise. From the top, you can see a storybook (Bollywood) mountain school. Hritik Roshan’s character in early 2000s film Koi Mil Gaya was a student of this school. Moreover, those that find the hike too much of a challenge can opt for a happy horseback ride to the top.

2. Kunjkharak Trek

trail in a jungle

Those looking for an offbeat experience near Nainital should not miss Kunjkharak Trek. There are a number of things that make this destination unique.

For starters, KunjKharak is not a hilly trek but a jungle trek, which are very rare in the northern parts of the country. Moreover, the destination is relatively untouched, especially when compared to nearby tourist spots like Nainital and Jim Corbett National Park .

The trek starts in Pangot, which is roughly a 40 minute drive from Nainital, takes two to three days to complete and takes adventurers through dense deodar, rhododendron and oak forests.

Total trekking distance is approximately 36 kilometers, most of which is either a walk on the plains of a downhill hike. One of the portions of the trek follows Kosi river, which makes for a perfect chance to take a dip and re energize your body.

Additional Info: While the Kunjkharak trek does go through the villages of Domas and Kumeria, there are hardly any shops on the trail itself. For this reason, it is advisable to carry water, snacks, and other essentials to keep your hunger satisfied during the trek.

3. Naini Peak-Pangot Trek

man trekking amidst mountains

One of the most frequented treks in the area, the Naini Peak-Pankgot trek is the perfect two day adventure for trekking enthusiasts. The trek starts at Mallital in Nainital and goest through the famous Snow View hill to reach Naini Peak (also known as China Peak).

Naini Peak, as the name suggests, is the highest peak (2611 meters) overlooking Nainital and offers breathtaking views of the storybook town, the mighty Naina Devi Temple, and the surrounding himalayan mountain ranges.

After trekking for a few more hours, and covering a distance of approximately 14 kilometers, you will reach the mountain village of Pangot. For most travellers, this village is the rest point before trekking back to Nainital the next day.

Pangot has quite a reputation for bird watching activities, thanks to the rich flora and fauna that surrounds the area. Add picture-perfect sunsets to the mix, and you get the perfect place to pitch your camps and spend the night after a tiring hike.

Additional Info: While trekking back to Nainital, there is an alternative route that goes through the village of Kilbury. While the trail is a bit more tricky to maneuver, the views on this trail make the extra investment of time and effort worthwhile.

4. Guano Hills

people standing atop a hill

If you’re one of the travelers that have spent enough time in the crowds of tourists flocking to Nainital and want to get away from the maddening crowds and the noise they accompany, take a trip to Guano Hills.

Famous for its bird watching potential, Guano Hills replace the crazy sounds of the crowds and traffic jams with an endless symphony created by thousands of birds.

Located at just a bit over 1800 meters from sea level, Guano Hills have been described as a “hiker’s paradise”. The sound of birds chirping, coupled with an enchanting forest full of bamboo, oak, and deodar trees make the spot a must visit for travelers visiting Nainital.

Additional Info: The hike to Guano Hills starts from Pangot village. The hills are open for tourists only between 8 AM and 6 PM. It is thus advisable to plan your day extensively to make the most of your trip to these enchanting hills.

5. Land’s End

lake amidst lush greenery

Do you know those places that have awesome names but disappointing views? Well, Land’s End is not one of them.

The 4 kilometer hike is perhaps the most rewarding hike in the region. Living up to its unique name, Land’s End peak is literally where the land ends. Beyond the peak, there is several hundred meters of nothingness. Thanks to this, it offers incredible views of the surrounding Himalayas, valleys, and lakes.

The short distance of the hike makes it perfect for adventure enthusiasts that are strapped for time. At the same time, the incredible views that surround the trail and the peak are perfect for a day-hike or a picnic with your loved ones.

Additional Info: Like most day hikes that originate from Nainital, there are pony rides available to Land’s end. While these have their own charm, it is recommended to take this hike on foot to be able to absorb the glory of mother nature the way it’s meant to be.

6. Snow View Peak

snow peak

Another day hike that delivers exactly what its name promises, the Snow View Peak is among the most frequented tourist spots near Nainital, and for good reason.

With a quaint complex of temples at the top, the Snow View Peak offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. In fact, it is said that on a clear day, you can see places that are at a distance of over 350 kilometers from the Snow View Peak.

While the hike distance is just 3 kilometers, travelers frequently describe the hike as a challenging feat. So if you are a beginner, it pays to remember to come prepared, both with the right footwear and the right mindset.

Additional Info: If you are visiting Snow View Peak, pay special attention to the weather forecast. unpleasant weather doesn’t just make the trail a bit more dangerous, it also dulls the views surrounding the otherwise beautiful peak.

Guide to smart travel

For yhai himalayan trekkers : things to bring (2023),  top 25 things to bring on a himalayan trek, (any winter/summer himalayan yhai trek).

So you have googled your trek, for photos, videos, and blogs + all other possible information 🙂 T he excitement is mounting and …

yhai nainital trek

Finally, the date of travel comes. Before you know it, you already are packing for your adventure! Here are a few suggestions for you.

T hese are my personal suggestions based on serving as a YHAI camp leader and Field Director in Himalayan treks and my experience as a certified Mountaineer, Skiier & Kayaker.

What will YHAI provide you?

At Base camp, you will be provided :

1. Hygiene sheet: Issued only at base camp.Comes fresh from the laundry, for only you. Use it throughout the trek, and carry it from camp to camp. Deposit back to basecamp after the trek. Some choose to buy and bring their own. ( here’s one you can pick up)

2. Blanket: Issued at every camp, for you to use and deposit back when leaving that camp.

3. Sleeping Bag: Issued at every camp, for you to use and deposit back when leaving that camp.

4. Rucksack : Issued only at basecamp. You could use your own rucksack instead of YHAI’s. If you are bringing your own backpack, then ensure you bring a lightweight one. Trust me each gram matters, when you are climbing that hill.

Things provided by YHAI

Now that you are trekking, let me tell you two secrets.

1st secret is trekking is addictive..

Bollywood trekking memes

You are going to find yourself on a trek more often from now on. Trekkers usually regret buying the low-cost option, which doesn’t last them more than 2 treks. So, for each must-bring item, I have listed both the Low cost vs Good value option (My choice)

2nd secret: A trekker with a light backpack, with just the essentials, is a happy one.

So if you have started asking yourself: How heavy is this? Is it really necessary? Congratulations! You’re thinking like a happy trekker 🙂

25 things I recommend you must pack

————————————————, 1. cotton shirts/t shirts.

Women adventurers gokyo women’s trekking pants – sahyadri – explorer series rdruko women’s outdoor hiking pants lightweight quick dry water resistant travel fishing pants with pockets, 3. raincoat.

Himalayan weather is unpredictable so be prepared to protect yourself from getting wet.

Low-cost option: Buy a huge plastic sheet and fold it to cover yourself like a rain sheet. You need to hold the rain sheet together throughout the trek.

My choice: A lightweight Raincoat top with hood and rain pant set. To keep me dry throughout the trek.

10-day YHAI Goa Trekking – An Extraordinary inspiring hike to the unknown

Most people think of Himalayan treks when they think of a week-long walk in India. There are several hikes in the Western Ghats, most of which are suitable for weekend excursions. Believe it or not, there are week-long treks in the south as well, including one in Goa called the Goa trek organized by the Youth Hostels Association of India .

This hiking trail is not well known as it requires special permission from Goa and Karnataka forest departments. The difficulties that hikers experience differ differently. The heat, the hike through the deep forest, deadly snakes, and dangerous animals, not the high altitude illness, are to blame. When compared to other treks, the Goa hike is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Day 7 – Anmod to Tambdi Surla

Day 8 – Tambdi Surla to Panjim and a buffer day, we celebrated the new year.

Is Goa Trek worth it?

Trekking in Goa, especially over the new year, was a fantastic experience. We were in Goa and had the choice of attending the Sunburn music festival or going on a Goa hike. We chose a week-long Goa hike, and I feel it was a wise idea. Many new like-minded acquaintances were made, people from many backgrounds (not just IT guys) shared their stories, and we thoroughly enjoyed every day of our 10-day walk.

The first two days were spent registering and acclimating. We drove throughout Goa. The true trip began on day three when we spent the entire day walking along the Arabian Sea’s beach. To go to the next campground, we boarded the local train. The rest of our Goa journey was spent in the deep rain forest.

We spent the night near to the Dudhsagar waterfall, through many railway tunnels, more than ten to twelve streams, entered Karnataka’s jungle, crossed Castlerock, and arrived at an ancient historic temple at Tambdi Surla. We bathed in practically every creek we crossed.

Goa Trek cost and what is included

The entire cost of this 10-day Goa trek including Youth hostel camps from Panjim to Panjim base camp was Rs. 3,990 (it has since escalated). Food, transport, train costs, forest admission in Goa and Karnataka, waterfall access, permits, guide charges, tent stay, insurance, cultural program at base camp, and a snake session are all included in the price.

Not all of them are granted permission to enter the forest. Forest Department rangers conducted numerous checks. This journey was completed in December-January 2015-16.

Goa Hike in Detail

Arrival at panjim.

The campground is in a fantastic location, near to the Mandovi River, and offers a strong connection. The market, which is located between the campsite and the Panjim bus terminal, is an excellent spot to visit near to the campsite. You may take the bus or go for a long stroll along the Mandovi River.

Visit in the evening to take in the sunset and a low tide walk along the shoreline. Miramar beach, which is a short walk from the campground, is a great place to spend extra time till it becomes dark. You might also go to the senior citizen park adjacent to our campground and watch the sailboats in the evening. Read more – Day 1 – Arrival at Panjim .

Benaulim Beach to Campal Sports Complex

The third day of the Goa trek is a long flat 11-kilometer walk from Benaulim beach to Cansaulim beach. In between, we visited some well-known south Goa beaches. This location is great for spending time with friends while on vacation.

South Goa beach is a beautiful location with a clean beach that is less congested, making it perfect for New Year’s Eve celebrations. A beautiful location for water sports such as speed boats, parasailing, and other water sports. Read More – Day 3 – Benaulim Beach to Campal Sports Complex

Cansaulim to Dudhsagar Camp

The fourth day of our Goa trek from Cansaulim to Dudhsagar camp was a lot of fun. After spending the entire day on day 3 in Benaulim, Cansaulim beach, and so on, day 4 was very different as the entire track was in the forest. The first 45 kilometers were via railway, followed by a muddy jeep route and seven stream crossings in the forest.

On this day, we don’t get to view the Dudhsagar waterfall, but we do arrive at the campground, which is quite near to the Dudhsagar waterfalls. The entire ten-kilometer route runs beside a railway track. Read more – Day 4 – Cansaulim to Dudhsagar Camp

Dudhsagar waterfall camp to Kuveshi

Day five of the Goa Trek was, in my opinion, the most anticipated of all. We had covered more than 12 kilometers of the trek, including the very famous Dudhsagar waterfall, tunnels, crossing the bridge that goes right across the waterfalls, then the steep climb to the tip of the waterfall and taking a bath there, followed by a long walk all the way to Kuveshi, which is in Karnataka. On day five, we begin our walk in Goa at the Dudhsagar campground and finish in Karnataka at Kuveshi. Read more – Day 5 – Dudhsagar camp to Kuveshi

Kuveshi to Anmod via Castlerock

The sixth day of our Goa trek was more of a journey through the forest, passing a few creeks and dry grassland. Despite the fact that this was a Goa trip, we spent the entire day in Karnataka. We traveled from one hamlet to a little town called Castlerock, then back into the woods to another community called Anmod. We had traveled roughly 17 kilometers in total. Anmod to Tambdi Surla

The seventh day of our Goa trip was a hard climb. Starting from a hamlet in Anmod, Karnataka, and continuing through the lush rain forest to Tambdi Surla, Goa. A location is well-known for its ancient temple and historical significance. The seventh day of our trek was largely in the jungle, which is ideal for folks who conduct bird study. From Anmod to Tambdi Surla campground, the journey takes around half a day and covers about 10 kilometers. Read more – Day 7 – Anmod to Tambdi Surla

Tambdi Surla to Panjim

Tambdi Surla was a wonderful place to stay. We were relieved to have completed seven days of the hike with only one day remaining. We were still in the thick of the rain forest, but we were quite close to the excellent spot since there was road access.

The old temple, a creek next to our campsite, a massage center in the middle of nowhere near our campsite, and a cabin where we all sat together the entire evening conversing non-stop gave us a sense of contentment. It was the last day of our journey, so it was a mixed bag of emotions. Day 8 was spent walking through the jungle, passing by an ancient Shiv mandir (temple) parallel to the stream. Hotels in Goa

Where to stay in Goa? – Because Goa is a tourist destination, staying there should not be an issue. Even during peak season, especially around the holidays, hotel prices can rise. The cheapest option is to get a dorm room at a hostel, of which there are several, but you must plan ahead of time.

Also, if you are a YHAI participant, you can extend your stay before or after the program by speaking with the local staff or the camp leader. We received assistance from them and stayed at the campsite for one more day, paying only 300 rupees more for meals and celebrating the New Year after finishing the hike. Hotels in Goa will undoubtedly be much more expensive at this time of year.

A quintessential trek for trekkers, the Hampta Pass trek is tailor made for those looking to experience the Himalayan adventures! The easiest access point for this trek is in Manali at an altitude of 14,100 ft, unlike most treks that start from a remote village.

Hampta Pass trekking is appealing mostly due to the fact that it connects the beautiful valleys of Kullu and Lahaul. The awe-inspiring landscapes and natural foliage of the region itself draws trekkers a plenty, not to mention the abundance of rare Himalayan birds and orchids spotted here.

Flourished with thick alpine forests, sprawling meadows, glacial valleys, this trek packs the punch of an idyllic adventure in the Himalayas. Another exemplary feature is the passage through the captivating Rohtang Pass that stands at an altitude of 13,000 feet and is enveloped in snow throughout the year, the best time to visit is in August to September.

The trail crosses the small villages of Hamta and Sethan. Hamta pass offers a magnificent view of Deo Tibaa 19683 ft and Indrasan 20404 ft.

The program also includes visit to Chandertal, a crescent shaped lake from which it’s named derived (moon like lake). It is situated at an altitude of approx. 14,100 ft. The surrounding of the lake consist of mountain scree on one side and a Cirque on the other, the lake itself is a part of a beautiful on which various varieties of wild flowers can be seen during spring season.

Exploring Goa with YHAI

Venkat Ganesh Trekking Goa , India , YHAI Goa , YHAI Trek , Youth Hostels Association of India 3

After more than a 3 month hiatus from blogging about my travels I am back. Why was away from it for so long you ask? Reasons - some personal, some otherwise. However all that is now over and what matters is am back.

Those of you who have been following me on Facebook might have seen that I was frequently posting updates From the Road . I toured a bit of Goa, Karnataka and Tamilnadu. And you’ll hear stories about all of those in the coming few weeks. For now let me start with Goa.

Exploring the lesser known side of Goa has always been something I wanted to do and thanks to the trekking and sailing expedition (more on sailing later) with YHAI, I was able to do that. YHAI is the same organization with whom I went for these treks. Other than organizing group treks/expeditions in the less touristy areas of a given region what also makes a YHAI trek special is that you get to meet people from across the country. And to top it they are extremely inexpensive. I mean no one can beat an all inclusive (all meals, stay, transport) 9 day trek in Goa during the height of its tourist season for a little over Rs. 2500, can they?

Although it is a 9 day event, the first couple of days are spent at the base camp located in Panjim where the participants complete the registration formalities; attend orientation activities for the hike ahead and getting to know their trek mates better. As the participants are picked up from the base camp on the morning of third day and dropped off at Mobor beach located in southern Goa the trek begins. The next two days would be spent hiking along the shore from Mobor to Velsao. A 26 km long unbroken stretch of beach with vast empty stretches intermittently interspersed with typical Goan beach shacks, water sports facilities and tiny fishing villages.

A fisherman mending his nets

We camped at some old dilapidated government building a couple of minutes walk from the beach in Benaulim before we reached Velsao next afternoon. Strolling along the streets of Benaulim in the evening was a pleasure. There were little Christmas cribs, made and decorated by the locals, every few meters along the street and most of them depicted the birth of Christ.

An effigy that is burnt at New Years Eve

The next morning our group departed for Velsao. Everyone was excited about getting to Velsao since we’d heard in the orientation talks at the base camp that the campsite here was actually set up on the beach. Also the group was excited about getting to celebrate the New Year’s Eve here (it happened to be afternoon of 31 December 2021 when we reached Velsao). I am not sure if my trek mates celebrated the event as I dozed off peacefully in my tent by 10 pm.

The beach as viewed from camp at Velsao

The Velsao campsite also happened to be our last camp on the beach leg of this trek. The next morning we left for Collem for the jungle leg of the trek. Located in the interiors of Goa, Collem lies in the eastern region of the state bordering on the Bhagvan Mahaveer National Park. The sanctuary along with being home to the Giant Indian Squirrel, Indian Bison and various species of reptiles and birds also houses the famous Dudhsagar Waterfalls.

Though the trek along the densely populated jungle provided respite from the sun it was as hot and humid as the beach. Thankfully all along the trail that we followed to reach the Dudhsagar campsite were numerous streams and we took frequent breaks to take a dip and cool ourselves. The Dudhsagar waterfalls were half an hour’s hike from the campsite. The waterfalls were the definitely the biggest I ever saw myself. We reached the lower part of the waterfalls well before the tourists started trickling in and by the time they did we climbed the trail leading to the upper part of the falls which is rarely visited.

From there it was close to a 4 hours walk through dense jungle before we reached the Caranzol campsite. Another campsite with a stream flowing by and after a tiring trek nothing refreshes more than being able to jump in the water and splash around like juvenile. The breakfast the next day morning at this site could be called the best in trek - Piping hot Bhature and spicy and steaming Chole.

At the stream in Caranzol

Unfotunately on this day there were no streams enroute and it became as hot, sticky and sweaty as it possible. There wasn’t any stream flowing by near the campsite like the previous couple of days. All that was there was this well and taking a bath required a considerable amount of effort having to draw the water from the well using a bucket.  This was our last night in the wilderness and we spent it lying on the ground and watching the stars fall into oblivion before we started feeling sleepy.

The campsite at Nandran

The final day of the trek was the most boring of all. After a bit of walk through the forest one had to walk the road until the Kadamba temple at Tambdi Surla where there would be a bus waiting to take us back to base camp at  Panjim. The temple a 13 th century monument was very beautiful and never came under attack owing to it being situated deep in the interiors away from the prying eyes of invaders. After a short while at the temple the bus arrived and we were taken back to the base camp at Panjim. And that was the end of the trek.

Kadamba Temple at Tambdi Surla

To tell the truth I was not very interested in going for the trek. The main motive behind going for the trek was to be eligible for the sail (they accept participants for sailing only if they completed a trek or a mountain biking expedition in Goa). But I would recommend you to go trekking in Goa. Go for the small fishing villages along the sandy beaches. Go for the Christmas –New Years’ celebrations in these villages. Go for the jungles and for the wildlife that resides in it. And most importantly go for the Goa that you never get to see otherwise.

YHAI Sar Pass Trek 2016 Review & Sar Pass Trek Guide for 2021!

' src=

I am back from Sar Pass Trek 2016, best trek of my life. Back from touching the feet of Mother Nature. What a trip it was! Memories that I will forever hold close to my heart and tales that I can perhaps narrate to my grandchildren in future.

I am talking about my camping trip through the most heavenly stretch in India – Sar Pass Trek! A place that is 13800 feet above sea level in the Himalayan Range.

Below are some stills from Kasol!

yhai nainital trek

The best time of the year when one can visit this place is during May. You’d see thousands of people pulling up their trekking gears and flocking away to cross Sar Pass Trek.

yhai nainital trek

I signed up with YHAI (Youth Hostel of India) who were the organizers of the camp and paid them the fees of Rs. 5,000. This year I consider myself to among the lucky ones who made it to the YHAI Sar Pass trek 2016 (And if all goes well, I may perhaps even see myself next year in the YHAI Sar Pass trek 2017.)

Those 11 days spent on the Sar Pass trekking camp by YHAI had sweet and adventurous surprises each day. YHAI gets trekkers who hike in batches. I found myself in a batch of 50 trekkers from diverse walks of life. Each having their own dream and purpose of making it to Sar Pass. Regular trekkers, fitness freaks, photographers, and some like me who simply wanted to experience the divinity of nature’s kingdom.

Our batch was at the receiving end of the unpredictable weather. I mean it could not get more unpredictable. Every time dark clouds appeared and we thought it would pour but the sun smiled at us with its bright rays of hope. And on days when the sunlight was too excessively harsh on us without the hint of clouds, raindrops would splash down suddenly from the sky. Such was the treacherous weather. But that never let out spirits down even once. We bravely battled it all rain, hailstorms, sunburns, minus 15 temperature.

  • Water purifying tablets,

  • Camera with extra batteries”

So, dive into my world and join me as I give you a glimpse of my entire voyage to Sar Pass trek and back…

yhai nainital trek

The base camp was located at Kasol, which is a small village situated near the banks of the Parvati River. While at the base camp, I managed to socialize with my fellow trekkers. Meeting new people, hearing their stories, and taking tips from the guides – were enlightening sessions for me.

The YHAI team was pretty organized and ensured we never faced hassles due to anything lacking from their end. The food served at the base camp was delicious and supplied enough energy to sustain daily activity including rock climbing and rappelling (which gave me an adrenaline rush all the time. The moment we arrived at the camp, we were served with welcome drinks. 2 hours later we got tomato soup. At 6pm tea and biscuits. At 7 dinner. And at 9, Bournvita. Well, that was the drill. In the evenings, we would sit by the camp fire and chat away.

I was super-motivated by my batch-mates as we wished and cheered for each other at the base camp each day.

yhai nainital trek

Every single day had something surprising in store. A major challenge that we faced was curbing the weight of our bags. I needed my essentials including thermal wear, clothes, toiletries, trek gear, medical things, and other miscellaneous stuff. But that catch here was that we had to keep it under 6 kgs. Besides, YHAI provided us with rucksacks, sleeping sheets, and sleeping bags.

yhai nainital trek

From Kasol we headed to Grahan, this place which is still 7000 ft above sea level is at a stretch of 9 km and is the closest to the village. Beyond this zone there were no signs of human settlements. The lush greenery with the background of the Himalaya Mountains was picturesque.

yhai nainital trek

The trek was relatively easy with multiple plateaus in between that gave us a chance to take breaks. The shepherds with their sheep and cattle were a delightful sight. Fortunately, YHAI marked red arrows on numerous rocks to ensure were weren’t losing directions or our mind! 😛

All I had in mind were the breathtaking images of Sar Pass that I had seen on Google back home some days ago. I couldn’t wait for it anymore, but kept calming my heart that I would soon be there seeing the beauty of the place right in front of my eyes. Till, then I needed to focus on my next destination. From Grahan, we went to Padri, which is at 7000 to 9000 ft.

This easy stretch was quite misty at certain places but had plenty of woods that would remind you of similar locales in the hit global TV show GAME OF THRONES. I couldn’t take my eyes off the mountains. It was a beautiful place where I enjoyed chatting up with my folks (yup we all batchmates had grown closer as a family by now). Later we played antakshri, dumcharade and a few other games. It was a memorable evening.

Min Thatch:

The journey from Padri to Min Thatch was excruciating. Walking on ice is not as easy as it seems. I had to carry a stick with me all the time to prevent slipping.

Thanks to global warming there wasn’t enough snow as it used to be years ago. Nevertheless, as we moved further away from ground level, no longer could I see the green meadows. Time seemed to tick very slowly and the climb looked never-ending. In fact, one of my batchmate’s DSLR missed to fall off the valley. Luckily, it didn’t!

My hands were freezing and I literally couldn’t feel my fingers when I took off my gloves. But, after enough walking, my energy increased thus generating warmth in my body. At the camp, we relaxed and enjoyed the beauty of Min Thatch while sipping on hot tomato soup and relishing the Maggi and Omlette sold at the canteen there.

This was literally an ice trek. The sudden hail storms gave a chill down my spine but the subtle snowfall pacified it. Though I was wearing layers of clothing, I still wouldn’t stop shivering. This place being at least 2500 ft above sea level, the air couldn’t get thinner; while the view, whiter. At the camp site, we had the opportunity to bond further, play around, click pictures and have fun.

yhai nainital trek

I knew my parents would be a bit worried back home. So since we got network here, I called them up to ensure I was doing great. Post that, a blizzard struck! It was terrifying! As a result, we had to protect our tents as well as ourselves.

Finally the time came! We were heading to our dream destination. Sar Pass! Yes, the renowned Sar Pass in Himachal Pradesh that is 13800 ft. I still couldn’t believe that I was almost there. There was anxiety and a sense of joy in reaching there after all the hardship faced in the past few days.

Must Read:  In the High Himalayas – With a Prayer and a Dog

All we knew was that we had to follow our guide and not mess with the rules. Or else it would prove to be fatal to us alone. The place is such you have to climb from one side and get off the other side. But, the climb is quite steep with ruthless UV rays of the sun that show no mercy on your skin leaving you with sunburns.

ALAS! I WAS ON THE TOP! OVER THE HIMALAYAN RANGE!

yhai nainital trek

I found myself breathing thin oxygen. The descent was super insane. You just cannot walk; you have to slide. We ended up toppling and sliding in weird positions. But, later we started gaining confidence as we slid further. So, practically, the journey to the Biskeri camp was all about sliding, falling, walking, and talking. LOL! 😀

Must Read:  4 Amazing Places to Visit When You Are in Kullu Manali

By the time we reached Biskeri, a snow valley I felt feverish due to all the playing in the snow. Thankfully, medications and hot soup got me back on recovery mode. We rested at the camp and clicked pictures and replayed every moment spent at the Sar Pass. After some rappelling, we descended around 4000 ft in a day and reached the YHAI base camp at Kasol for comfort. My feet and palms were sore by then so I decided to take a short nap.

And I am Done. That’s it. It was a trip to remember forever. Seriously.

YHAI has to be given due credit for their honest efforts in organizing such wonderful expedition. Right from their supply chain, to the volunteers (who were their employees) and camp leaders – everything went in harmony. I felt blessed to have such a skillfully organized team taking us through the journey.

These 15 days gave me a sight and experience like no other. Large green pastures, sun-shaded forests, pine trees, noisy rivers flowing fresh water, ice-laden glaciers – I don’t think I could have ever enjoyed this experience had I not chosen to step out of a busy, polluted, and fast-paced urban city like Mumbai .

Will remember each and everyone from my SP-33 group.

When I went back home, more than anything else, I realized this trip was a self-actualization one. While glancing through the Sar Pass trek photos, it dawned upon me that it was that this expedition was a bond between Planet Earth and me. It was more of a digital detox where I never needed to check out Facebook or WhatsApp, text message, or answer phone calls – A complete disconnection from the virtual world.

Must Read: Treks in India

If I have to describe the trip in few words, I would say it was –

Emotionally, mentally and physically challenging – How you can adapt to surroundings, people, circumstances, unexpected conditions – A game of survival where only you can conquer your fears.

Once you are able to do that, the word HAPPINESS will know no bounds in your dictionary because you would never be able to define it in words…

Last but not the least, this journey gave me the biggest lesson of life – Just enjoy and live your present, Feel every moment of your struggle towards your goals without worrying about how the fruits of your hard work would turn out to be.

It’s never about what is waiting on the other side… but it’s always about THE CLIMB… THE JOURNEY !

Thanks for discussing your ideas with this blog. Additionally, a delusion regarding the banking institutions intentions when talking about property foreclosures is that the financial institution will not take my payments. There is a certain amount of time which the bank requires payments every now and then. If you are also deep inside the hole, they will commonly call that you pay the actual payment fully. However, i am not saying that they will have any sort of repayments at all. In the event you and the lender can have the ability to work something out, the particular foreclosure process may end. However, when you continue to neglect payments beneath new program, the property foreclosures process can just pick up exactly where it was left off.

Ahaa, its fastidious dialogue concerning this piece of writing here at this blog, I have read all that, so at this time me also commenting at this place.
