Music has the power to transport us, change our moods, and conjure memories. And, for many travelers, music is closely linked to travel. It can helps us understand the people and culture of a place, break down language barriers, and sear certain moments into our memories forever.
With help from members of our Travel Community and Going staff, we've created the ultimate travel playlist of 100 travel songs. Some reference specific places, others showcase the musical talent of a specific country, and others simply celebrate the joy of exploration.
Here, in no particular order, are 100 of our favorite travel songs.
56 songs that reference specific places in the title or lyrics
Sure, some of these songs, such Paris by the Chainsmokers or Toto’s Africa , actually have little to do with the specific place; it’s just used as the title or the setting for the story. But others not only reference a country or city, they also evoke a specific sense of that particular place or tell a story about that destination.
For example, in Marrakech Express , Crosby, Stills & Nash recount scenes from a train ride Nash actually took in 1966. In London Calling , the Clash sing about the social issues facing London in the late 70s. In Walking in Memphis , Marc Cohn croons about his experience wandering the city. And Simon & Garfunkel's America was inspired by a road trip that Paul Simon took with his girlfriend.
Here are some of our favorite songs that mention a specific city or country, and a snippet of the lyrics.

During your travels you will end up in a lot of fun situations.
You will collect memories, and a few songs will take part in it. Then, when you are back home or wherever, you will hear this special song in the radio – and it takes you right back to those fun situations you will cherish forever.
For us, this is for instance “We don’t talk anymore” – we traveled Vietnam for 3 months and some local in every single village, town and city played it at least once. We turned crazy, yet it’s today a part of the experience. Then in Labuan Bajo, while taking the boat cruise around the Komodo National Park, the boat crew only had only one song to play, HIOKO TOBELO 2 – Yopie Latul .

1. Ricky Nelson – Travelin’ Man
I’m a travelin’ man I’ve made a lot of stops all over the world And in every part I own the heart Of at least one lovely girl
I’ve a pretty Señorita waiting for me Down in old Mexico If you’re ever in Alaska stop and see My cute little Eskimo
Oh, my sweet Fraulein down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn And my China doll down in old Hong Kong Waits for my return
Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea I remember the night When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki And I held you, oh so tight
2. The Melodic – “On My Way”
I found an open door (I’m on my way) I think of love once more (I’m on my way)
Precious time on your own Seeing more than you care to say And the mist falls away (I’m on my way)
At times I’ve tried to feel (I’m on my way) With the thoughts I tried to steal (I’m on my way)
Left forgotten like young love All the choices I am made of When the push comes to shove
3. Passenger – Traveling Alone
Australian man, Scandinavian tan, Kicking stones round a square. Sat for a while and carved out a smile, As if someone would care.
Said I’m a long way from the Gold Coast. Furthest I’ve ever known, Oh and this just ain’t my home. It was my wife’s idea, but she’s no longer here. She left me travelling alone.
I never heard silence ring out like a bell. I never heard silence like last night in my expensive hotel. Well, I’m loving a shadow, I’m trying to catch the rain. But I never heard silence ’til I heard it today.
She walked out of the hotel, I could still smell the smoke of the burning heart left inside. She said men are all assholes And life’s a bad joke. She laughed and started to cry.
See, ten years with this man, And a life time of plans, Oh, and I loved him to his bones. Now I’ve lines on my skin And he’s traded me in. He left me travelling alone.
Well, I never felt silence hit me like a train. I never felt silence like blood coursed through my veins. Well, I’m loving a shadow, and I’m trying to catch the rain. I never heard silence ’til I heard it today. I never felt silence ’til I felt it today.
4. Band of Horses – The Funeral
I’m coming up only to hold you under I’m coming up only to show you wrong And to know you is hard, we wonder To know you, all wrong we were
Ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh
Really too late to call, so We wait for Morning to wake you, that’s all we got To know me as hardly golden Is to know me all wrong, they were
At every occasion, I’ll be ready for the funeral Every occasion, once more, it’s called the funeral Every occasion, know I’m ready for the funeral Every occasion, oh, one billion-day funeral
5. X Ambassadors – Renegades
Run away with me Lost souls and reverie Running wild and running free Two kids, you and me
6. Noah And The Whale – Blue Skies
This is a song for anyone with a broken heart This is a song for anyone who can’t get out of bed
I’ll do anything to be happy
Oh, ’cause blue skies are coming
But I know that it’s hard
This is the last song that I write while still in love with you This is the last song that I write while you’re even on my mind
’cause it’s time to leave those feelings behind Oh, ’cause blue skies are coming But I know that it’s hard
7. Coldplay – Adventure Of A Lifetime
Turn your magic on, to me she’d say Everything you want’s a dream away We are legends, every day That’s what she told him
I feel my heart beating I feel my heart beneath my skin I feel my heart beating Oh, you make me feel
Like I’m alive again Alive again Oh, you make me feel Like I’m alive again
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication
Psychic spies from China try to steal your mind’s elation And little girls from Sweden dream of silver screen quotation And if you want these kind of dreams it’s Californication It’s the edge of the world and all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the East at least it’s settled in a final location It’s understood that Hollywood sells Californication Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging Celebrity skin is this your chin or is that war you’re waging?
9. Of Monsters and Men – Dirty Paws
Jumping up and down the floor My head is an animal And once there was an animal It had a son that mowed the lawn The son was an OK guy They had a pet dragonfly The dragonfly it ran away But it came back with a story to say
Her dirty paws and furry coat She ran down the forest slope The forest of talking trees They used to sing about the birds and the bees The bees had declared a war The sky wasn’t big enough for them all The birds, they got help from below From dirty paws and the creatures of snow
10. Foo Fighters – These Days
One of these days, the ground will drop out from beneath your feet One of these days, your heart will stop and play it’s final beat
One of these days, the clocks will stop and time won’t mean a thing One of these days, their bombs will drop and silence everything
But it’s alright, yeah it’s alright, said it’s alright Easy for you to say Your heart has never been broken Your pride has never been stolen Not yet, not yet, one of these days I bet your heart ‘ll be broken I bet your pride ‘ll be stolen I’ll bet, I’ll bet, I’ll bet, I’ll bet One of these days, one of these days
11. David Bowie – Heroes
I, I wish you could swim Like the dolphins Like dolphins can swim Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, forever and ever
Oh, we can be heroes just for one day
I, I will be King And you, you will be Queen Though nothing will drive them away We can be heroes just for one day We can be us just for one day
12. Ben Howard – Old Pine
Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags I’ve come to know that memories Were the best things you ever had The summer shone beat down on bony backs
So far from home where the ocean stood Down dust and pine cone tracks We slept like dogs down by the fire side Awoke to the fog all around us
The boom of summer time We stood Steady as the stars in the woods So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones As the old pine fell we sang Just to bless the morning
13. The Byrds – I Wasn’t Born To Follow
Recommended by the Hostelgeeks community member Alexandra.
No I’d rather go and journey Where the diamond crescent’s glowing And run across the valley Beneath the sacred mountain And wander through the forest
Where the trees have leaves of prisms And break the light in colors That no one know the names of
And when it’s time I’ll go and lay Beside the legendary fountain ‘Till I see her form reflected
In its clear and jewelled waters And if you think I’m ready You may lead me to the chasm Where the rivers of our visions Flow into one another
14. Imagine Dragons – Not Today
There she goes in front of me Take my life and set me free again We’ll make a memory out of it Holy road is at my back Don’t look on, take me back again
We’ll make a memory out of it We finally fall apart and we break each other’s hearts
If we wanna live young, love, we better start today It’s gotta get easier, oh easier somehow
‘Cause I’m falling, I’m falling Oh easier and easier somehow
Oh I’m calling, I’m calling And it isn’t over, unless it is over I don’t wanna wait for that It’s gotta get easier and easier somehow But not today Not today
15. Mumford & Sons – Hopeless Wanderer
You heard my voice, I came out of the woods by choice Shelter also gave their shade But in the dark I have no name So leave that click in my head And I will remember the words that you said Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart But I am sure we could see a new start So when your hopes on fire But you know your desire Don’t hold a glass over the flame Don’t let your heart grow cold I will call you by name I will share your road
But hold me fast, hold me fast ‘Cause I’m a hopeless wanderer And hold me fast, hold me fast ‘Cause I’m a hopeless wanderer
16. Paper Lions – Travelling
Travelling the road, last known is where I want to be My compass directing, electing, an open road with golden trees But there’s an old man in need on the ground, I try not to make a sound He holds out his hand as I walk away, I hear him say
Please don’t be a stranger in my place Travelling come to a tavern for a momentary rest
I see the old man that I passed on the road in his distress As I turned to go I can hear him say, “Son, stay. Have a drink, I’ll pay.” Let bygones be gone, it’s all in the past, we raise a glass Please don’t be a stranger in my place
What if I could be what you wanted me to be What if I could see what you wanted me to see Come on and show me Please don’t be a stranger in my place
17. Ramon Mirabet – Home Is Where The Heart is

You’re in love with something bigger than love You believe in something stronger than trust
Wanderlust Wanderlust

23. Bastille – Pompeii
I was left to my own devices Many days fell away with nothing to show
And the walls kept tumbling down In the city that we love Grey clouds roll over the hills Bringing darkness from above
But if you close your eyes Does it almost feel like Nothing changed at all? And if you close your eyes Does it almost feel like You’ve been here before?
24. Green day – Time of your life
Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why It’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right I hope you had the time of your life
So take the photographs, and still-frames in your mind Hang them on a shelf in good health and good time Tattoo’s of memories and dead skin on trial For what it’s worth, it was worth all the while
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right I hope you had the time of your life
25. The Script – Hall of Fame
Yeah, you could be the greatest You can be the best
You can be the King Kong banging on your chest You could beat the world You could beat the war

Road trippin’ with my two favorite allies Fully loaded we got snacks and supplies It’s time to leave this town it’s time to steal away Let’s go get lost anywhere in the U.S.A.
Let’s go get lost, let’s go get lost
Blue you sit so pretty West of the one Sparkles light with yellow icing, just a mirror for the sun Just a mirror for the sun Just a mirror for the sun
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for So much as come before those battles lost and won This life is shining more forever in the sun Now let us check our heads and let us check the surf Staying high and dry’s More trouble than it’s worth in the sun

33. José González – Stay Alive
There’s a rhythm in rush these days Where the lights don’t move and the colors don’t fade Leaves you empty with nothing but dreams
In a world gone shallow In a world gone lean
Sometimes there’s things a man cannot know Gears won’t turn and the leaves won’t grow There’s no place to run and no gasoline
Engine won’t turn And the train won’t leave

Moving up your spine

41. Bright Eyes – “First Day Of My Life”
This is the first day of my life Swear I was born right in the doorway I went out in the rain, suddenly everything changed They’re spreading blankets on the beach
Yours was the first face that I saw I think I was blind before I met you I don’t know where I am, I don’t know where I’ve been But I know where I want to go
And so I’d thought I’d let you know That these things take forever, I especially am slow But I realized that need you And I wondered if I could come home

When I was a kid the things I did were hidden under the grid Young and naive I never believed that love could be so well hid With regret I’m willing to bet and say the older you get It gets harder to forgive and harder to forget It gets under your shirt like a dagger at work The first cut is the deepest but the rest still flipping hurt You build your heart of plastic Get cynical and sarcastic And end up in the corner on your own

It’s so safe to play along Little soldiers in a row Falling in and out of love With something sweet to throw away. But I want something good to die for To make it beautiful to live. The Travellers

Early Years
Folk music group The Travellers was formed at Camp Naivelt in Brampton , Ontario, during the summer of 1953. Founding members included Jerry Gray (banjo and lead singer), Sid Dolgay (mandocello), and the singers Helen Gray, Jerry Goodis and Oscar Ross. At first, they sang with the left-leaning United Jewish Peoples Order, with which they shared a commitment to the labour , peace and civil liberties movements. Then, piggybacking on the popularity of the folk music revival , The Travellers modelled their act after the popular American folk group The Weavers and were encouraged by legendary American folksinger Pete Seeger.
Under Jerry Gray’s leadership, The Travellers became a quartet. The members varied over the years; more than a dozen singers and instrumentalists were associated with the group. Helen Gray was replaced in 1954 by Simone Johnston. Johnston was replaced in 1969 by Pam Fernie and Fernie in 1974 by Aileen Ahern, who retired in 1990. Singer Oscar Ross left in 1955, replaced by Marty Meslin from 1955 to 1957. Jerry Goodis continued until 1961 and Dolgay until 1965.
Guitarist Ray Woodley was a member from 1961 to 1974. A second guitarist, Ted Roberts, was added in 1968. Bassist Joe Lawrence Hampson (spouse of Sharon Hampson of Sharon, Lois & Bram ) joined in 1965 and drummer Don Vickery in 1972. The group’s music directors have been, in turn, Sam Goldberg (until 1961), Eugene Dolny (1961 to 1965) and Ted Roberts (beginning in 1968).
Career Highlights: 1954 to Early 1970s
From their earliest days, The Travellers were associated with the labour movement ( see Labour Relations ) and espoused left-leaning socialist beliefs. (“Traveller” or “fellow traveller” is a slang term for someone who sympathizes with the cause of communism.) Their earliest engagements were at Toronto Jewish organizations and labour functions. The group made its TV debut in 1954 on CBC ’s Haunted Studio . They were also finalists in 1956 on CBC’s Pick the Stars . They were encouraged by Pete Seeger to perform Woody Guthrie’s music, which was blacklisted in the United States under the oppressive blanket of McCarthyism. The group members adapted Guthrie’s song “This Land Is Your Land” in 1954 and recorded it as a single in 1957.
They often performed for children in the late 1950s. In 1961, they appeared at the first Mariposa Folk Festival and toured Canada with Jacques Labrecque . In 1962, they toured the Soviet Union as part of a government-endorsed cultural exchange, performing 19 concerts titled “A Musical Tour of Canada.” A Canadian tour in 1963 was followed in 1964 by a royal command performance in Charlottetown and a tour in Britain.
The Travellers’ 1967 centennial tour of Canada involved more than 100 concerts, including performances in the Northwest Territories and northern Alberta . The group also performed during the opening of the Canadian Pavilion of Expo 70 in Osaka, Japan. In the early 1970s, they entertained on Canadian armed forces bases in Germany and Cyprus. The Travellers were also popular on university campuses during the 1960s and early 1970s, corresponding with the years of campus unrest.
Career Highlights: 1970s to 2000s
The Travellers reduced their itinerary in the late 1970s but continued to appear at schools. They also performed annual children’s concerts during the 1970s at Toronto’s Seneca College. They played at political events and labour rallies through the 1980s, averaging 30 performances a year. Hampson and Roberts also performed as a duo and Roberts and Jerry Gray as solo artists, the latter specializing in Yiddish material ( see also Jewish Canadians ).
In 1980, the Travellers celebrated their 25th anniversary with a concert at Toronto’s Harbourfront that brought together many former members. In 1990, Gray, Ahern, Hampson, Roberts and Vickery were joined by Sid Dolgay for performances at the 30th Mariposa Folk Festival . The group appeared at Mariposa again in 2001 for the 40th anniversary of their appearance at the festival’s first year.
Since the 1980s, Gray has periodically performed with other musicians as Jerry Gray and The Travellers; in 2006, they performed with Hampson at a Canadian Auto Workers convention. In 2008, Gray and others hosted a tribute concert for Pete Seeger in Toronto, and in 2011 they sang at a concert in Markham , Ontario, to mark the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie’s birth.
In their early years, The Travellers sang traditional folk material in Yiddish and English. Their repertoire grew to include labour songs, traditional Canadian and American folk songs such as “I’se the B’y,” children’s songs , patriotic songs including “The Maple Leaf Forever” (with reworked lyrics), protest songs , some First Nations songs , and contemporary folk titles by Wade Hemsworth , Gordon Lightfoot , and others.
The Travellers began making recordings in the 1950s. In 1959, they signed with Columbia Records of Canada and produced seven albums during the 1960s. Their LP of labour songs, A Century of Song (1967), established their profile in the Canadian labour movement. Their 1980 children’s album, Merry-Go-Round , received a Juno Award nomination.
A compilation album of recordings from the early 1960s titled This Land is Your Land was released in 1999, followed in 2001 by a National Film Board documentary of the same name. The film covers the band’s early career and the folk music scene in Canada during the 1960s.
Charitable Involvement
The Travellers and the band’s individual members were known for supporting the civil rights and labour movements, e.g., performing in 1963 with entertainers Harry Belafonte and Oscar Peterson in support of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Syd Dolgay was inducted into the Mariposa Folk Festival ’s Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2009, Jerry Gray received a lifetime achievement award from the Ontario Federation of Labour for his support of unions .
The Travellers, along with such folk music specialists as Edith Fowke , Alan Mills and Wade Hemsworth , were icons of Canada’s folk music revival , which contributed to pan-Canadian cultural unity by popularizing regional folk songs across the nation. The first folk group signed by Columbia Records of Canada , The Travellers were best known for the patriotic enthusiasm of their Canadian lyrics for “This Land Is Your Land.” The song became a staple of their concerts and television appearances. The group influenced many in the folk music movement of the 1960s and 1970s. They also helped spread the messages of left-leaning social movements such as the labour rights movement.

Travellers Songs
Through the collecting of folklorists in the 1950s, Scottish Travellers came to prominence as bearers of extensive repertoires of Scots song, amongst them many muckle sangs or classic ballads.
It is no over-statement to say that without the Travellers, the strength of the Scots song tradition would be greatly diminished.
The Stewarts of Blair were one of the most revered singing families, discovered working in the berryfields of Blairgowrie by Maurice Fleming and Hamish Henderson. The family went on to become very well known, travelling to the United States to perform. Here Sheila Stewart (b. 1937) sings Andrew Lammie , in the company of Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger, and her parents, Belle and Alec Stewart:
The STV series Kay's Originals featured Belle Stewart (1906-1997) and Stanley Robertson (1940-2009" data-size="medium" title="My Son David" />
Whilst not strictly a 'Traveller' by birth, in lifestyle Jimmy MacBeath ( 18941972) of Portsoy in Banffshire was every bit the itinerant labourer and singer. One of his most famous songs was Tramps and Hawkers, a song of the road. Supposedly written by Jimmy Henderson of Brechin, 'Besom Jimmy', in the 19th century, it's sung to a tune shared by several other songs, notably from Ireland, The Homes of Donegal .
Here Bob Knight, a Traveller singer and songwriter, gives a wonderful rendition of the song. Bob says his wife's grandfather, George Robertson Stewart, was the man who gave Jimmy MacBeath his version of Tramps and Hawkers:
The Travellers also sang songs in their own tongue, cant, a mixture of Romany, older Scots and elements of Gaelic. Jeannie Robertson sings the cant song Bing Avree Barra Gadgie (essentially 'run away good man!") at the Kist o Riches website .
In the following video, Jimmy MacBeath gives a rendition of the cant song Hey Barra Gadgie:

The 10 Best Blues Traveler Songs of All-Time
Blues Traveler formed in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1987. Known for their blend of genres and exhilarating live performances, they quickly established themselves as one of the leading acts on the 1990’s jam band scene . Their fourth album, the appropriately titled Four, propelled them into the big time. While the commercial fortunes may have waned in the years since, they still remain a hugely popular live draw. Here’s our pick of the 10 best Blues Traveler songs of all time.
10. Carolina Blues
Straight On till Morning, Blues Traveler’s fifth album, was met with a warm reception on its release, with All Music praising its “succinct and eclectic” song list and calling it “the first studio record that captures the essence of the band.” Commercially, it fared reasonably well, hitting number 11 on the Billboard 200. While it didn’t produce any hit singles, there are plenty of nuggets to be found among its sprawling tracklist, including this criminally underrated gem about a relationship gone bad.
9. Brother John
According to Greatoldies.com , Bobby Sheehan and Chan Kinchla wrote this next song for Sheehan’s brother John, who was going through some tough times. Brother John was intended as a ‘wake up’ call, a kind of sonic intervention to rouse him from his stupor and set him back on the right path. Special mention has to go to Popper’s harmonica playing – always delightful, but here, the inspired touch that holds the entire song together.
8. Look Around
Four was the album that propelled Blues Traveler into the mainstream. Released in September 1994, it peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200 and spawned a series of top 30 hits, including the hugely popular Run-Around and Hook. It’s since certified 6 x platinum in the US after selling over 6 million units. One of its highlights is Look Around, a compellingly intense song that demonstrates the sharp songwriting talents and expert musicianship of the band.
7. The Mountains Win Again
If you want to understand what helped Blues Traveler’s fourth album, Four, sell over 6 million copies, just turn your attention in the direction of insanely hooky The Mountains Win Again. It might not have been as successful as the album’s other singles, Hook and Run-Around, but it still managed to reach a respectable number 14 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart and number 41 on the Candian charts. Listen out for the Allman Brothers’ Warren Haynes on slide guitar.
6. Conquer Me
Save His Soul, the band’s third studio album, may only have charted at number 72 on the Billboard 200, but it’s packed with treats, with frontman John Popper’s guttural vocals and blasts of piercing harmonica binding the eclectic tracklist together beautifully. Despite its relatively poor performance in the charts, it still managed to go gold – something that Conquer Me, the album’s bluesy, tender-hearted lead single, can claim more than a little credit for.
Blues Traveler’s eponymous debut album gave us a band that could lock and load into an epic jam session just as well as the Grateful Dead, but with arguably more focus and more listenable results. Much of the reason for their success lies with John Popper, a frontman whose presence serves as enough of a focal point to keep the rest of the band in some kind of check. While the album’s lead single But Anyway got most of the attention, it was the deep cuts that kept listeners coming back for a second helping. Considering the strength of hidden gems like Alone, it’s easy to see why.
4. Crystal Flame
Blues Traveler’s eponymous debut album provides a blueprint for the band’s studio releases, boasting unconventional time signatures, guitar fills, and baroque harp flourishes that start as decoration before building into more open-ended jams as the album progress. Crystal Flame, the almost 10-minute long centerpiece to the album, ticks every box, combining laser-sharp songwriting with a loose, improvisational quality that would do the Grateful Dead proud.
3. But Anyway
Blues Traveler’s debut may only have produced one hit single, but considering the strength of that single, it’s hard to grumble. Combining witty lyrics with impeccable performances, But Anyway became the band’s first major hit, reaching number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 24 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40.
2. Run-Around
Run-Around was written by John Popper about Blues Traveler’s original bass player , Felicia, who Popper had an almighty crush on in high school but was too worried to do anything about in case it damaged their friendship. Released as a single from their platinum-selling album Four in February 1995, it became their breakthrough hit, storming to number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 13 in Canada. At the following year’s Grammys, it picked up the award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
Hook might sound like nothing more than a simple little tune about the mechanics of writing a song, but its sharp commentary about the inanity of most successful pop songs (“It doesn’t matter what I say / So long as I sing with inflection / That makes you feel that I’ll convey / Some inner truth or vast reflection”) took on a new complexity when the song itself reached number 30 in the Billboard Hot 100, effectively becoming one of the only songs in pop history to serve as both a cutting satire on hit songs and a hit song in its own right. Described by AV Club as “a big joke about how listeners will like just about anything laid on top of the chords of the infinitely clichéd Pachelbel canon, even lyrics that openly mock them for liking it,” it remains one of the band’s most enduringly popular songs to this day.
No, do not confuse this Thomas Newman with the composer. But I'm still a music lover nonetheless. You'll catch me mostly writing articles about the artists and bands I love. Maybe some theory. Maybe some analysis. Whatever lands in the world of music is something I'm likely interested in. In particular I'm a huge fan of classic rock and the oldies. Zeppelin are among my favorites and Foghat's "Slowride" is one of my favorite tracks.

Shocked not to see Roam by the B52’s?!
So am I! I’ll try to add it in over the next week or so!
Another great tune that I have never seen on any “Travel Song” list is “Born to Wander” by the Rare Earth on their 1970 album “Ecology”.
The members of Lynyrd Skynyrd did not grow up in muscle shoals Alabama. They grew up in Jacksonville, Florida.

“Some folks might say That I’m no good That I wouldn’t settle Down if I could But when that open road Starts to callin’ me There’s somethin’ o’er the hill That I gotta see”

24 Best Songs For Travelling That You Should Add On Your Playlist
Is it not beautiful when you listen to your favourite travel songs, it that takes you back to the fun, sad, crazy, wild , and amazing trips you have been to! Who doesn’t pack their headphones and make sure that their music players are fully charged for the upcoming trip?
I play ukulele although not very well! But plugging my headset on and listen to the music is one of my favourite things to do, who doesn’t? It let me stop whatever’s happening around me, block the cat callers in a dodgy alley, shuts up the loud snore of my dorm mate, bring comforts when I’m homesick or miss my friends, or even help me write so I can express myself better.
The guy sitting across me in the metro must have thought I’m crazy for banging my head, mumbling words, tapping my fingers, putting my hands up in the air or dance like crazy (okay, maybe that’s beyond acceptable).
In this list, you will find not only new songs to add to your travel playlist, surely you will find some new inspiring travel quotes too or check this top solo travel quotes . What I did is asked other travellers to share their favourite music to listen to when travelling or road tripping , enjoy!
24 BEST SONGS FOR TRAVELLING THAT YOU SHOULD ADD ON YOUR PLAYLIST
1. travelling – paper lion.
Why is this one of the best songs for travelling?
I personally love this song by Paper Lions not just because it’s literally about travelling but also for the reason that it sings the interaction between a traveller and a local. It also reminds me of my time when I was living with a local family in Vietnam where I was welcomed like part of the family. – Ryan of Three Week Traveller
2. I Would Walk 500 Miles – The Proclaimers
Have you HEARD this song? I mean, who couldn’t listen to 500 Miles without loving it? The tune is so upbeat and the words super catchy, making it an easy and awesome song to rock out to. But I guess the main reason it’s my favorite traveling song is due to all the amazing memories I have when listening to it. – Mri Grout of Life Long Vagabonds
3. Porcelain – Moby
My favourite travel song is Porcelain by Mobi. It’s a really beautiful song. I always listen to it when I’m en route somewhere and when I’m travel writing because it’s relaxing and takes me back in my mind to where I was.
I love the song because it has a really calming, spiritual feel to it and every time I listen to it, it reminds me of the sense of freedom that travel gives us. The feel of the wind on your face and an open road. – Melissa of Foot Steps On The Globe
4. Good Life – One Republic
Great travel song was written by one of the best modern day songwriters, Ryan Tedder of One Republic. Captures the feeling of a young traveler and struck a chord with me personally as it mentions many cities in the song in which my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) met up while maintaining a massive long distance relationship.
We are now living the good life as a married couple traveling the world as we share our experiences. – Mike & Meg Jerrard of Mapping Megan and Waking Up Wild
5. Like A Rollin’ Stone – Bob Dylan
This is my favourite travel song because I think any traveller can relate to the lyrics of this song. Every time the chorus hits you, it feels as fresh as it did the first time you heard it. ‘How does it feel to be on your own, with no direction home, like a complete unknown, like a rollin stone’. – Jamie by Lady And The Trumper
6. Take The World By Storm – Lukas Graham
I love this song as it completely defines all my feelings and devotion towards a life of travel. When I’m feeling down or uncertain about my next travel move I turn this song on loud and play it on repeat to remind me why I chose to backpack solo in the first place. – Leah of Love From Leah
7. Sky and Sand – Paul Kalkbrenner (Feat. Fritz Kalkbrenner)
I love love this song! I would listen to it on repeat when I walked the Camino de Santiago. It has a nice beat to it, so it would distract me from the miles of miles of walking I had in front of me. And now, it always makes me want to move- travel. I guess it’s my to-go nomad tune. – Veronica of The Modern Pilgrim
8. Down Under – Men At Work
Aussie classic Down Under by 80’s Aussie rock band Men at Work might not be a traditional travel anthem, but its true-blue Aussie lyrics, sentiments and catchy riffs make it the go-to song for homesick travellers from downunder – maybe because Australians are the only ones who understand it! It’s a celebration of the good AND bad in Aussie culture and playing it in an Aussie pub will almost always guarantee a sing-a-long. – Marion of Red Nomad
9. On The Top Of The World – Imagine Dragons
Why is this one of your favourite travel songs?
Love deeply and live in the moment. This is the big message that this song wants to say. It never failed to bring a smile to my face and helped to cease the day. With its upbeat tune and fantastic lyrics, this is definitely a hit on my list. Makes me more inspired to make new friends and discover new things on the road when I travel. – Ryazan of Everything Zany
10. Song Of A Traveler – Wim Keesmaat
Written and sung by my friend Wim Keesmaat, Song of a Traveler summons up exactly what long-term travel is about. How people ridicule you for giving up your house and securities. To instead choose the world as your home. “A ship is safer in the harbor, but it isn’t made for that. It has to sail to be free”. – Karin of Land Cruising Adventure
11. Wake Me Up – Avicii
This song from 2013 may just sound like another club electronica mix, but when you listen to the lyrics they seem to go a bit deeper. It tells a great story about the passing of life and doing all that you can within that lifetime. One of the lines is “I hope I get the chance to travel the world, but I don’t have any plans.” Which pushes me to travel more and to never delay plans. – Natasha of The World Pursuit
12. On The Road Again – Willie Nelson
Beirut perfectly captures a great memory in the song Postcards from Italy. Cherished moments with someone dear, perhaps in a holiday – this is what I envision when I listen to this song. It brings to life colourful memories of past travels and invokes feelings of joy.
If you are looking to reminisce on some of the wonderful places you have visited, “Postcards from Italy” is a fitting song to listen to. – Gia of Mismatched Passports
13. I Was Born – Hanson
The boys who brought you MMMBop are back, but they’ve grown up and grown into their music. Their 2017 single is perfect for when you’re on your way to the airport for a way too early flight.
It is a classic upbeat pop song, and it’s the type of jam that can get you dancing even before you’ve had any coffee. Even more than that though, the lyrics speak to me as a traveler. I’ve never quite felt at home with the masses who can accept living and dying and seeing only a few other places during their lifetime.
This song was the first one that made me feel like maybe there was someone else out there who desperately needed to chase new experiences. Maybe there was someone else out there like me. It’s all about going somewhere no one has ever gone, doing something no one has ever done, or being someone that no one has ever been.
And I think traveling opens up those opportunities for people. Additionally every kid in the video is the offspring of the band members, how cute is that?! – Ashley of Dash In Ash
14. B.o.B – So Good
On many of our trips there comes a point when we are reminded just how good we have it. The time we realized we had a hotel patio with views of the Eiffel Tower, when we checked into our rainforest cabin in Costa Rica or when we checked off bucket list items in New York City. When those types of things happen, we always turn on “So Good” by B.o.B and enjoy his lyrics about traveling the world. – Dan of Honeymoon Always
15. Life Is A Highway – Rascal Flatts
I first heard ‘Life Is A Highway’ when it appeared on the soundtrack for the Disney Pixar movie ‘Cars’. A few years later, my family and I drove Route 66 (Chicago to LA), which was a huge inspiration for the ‘Cars’ movie so of course ‘Life Is A Highway’ was on our driving playlist for the trip!
The song just screams out ‘American road trip’ and you can’t help but sing along at the top of your voice! Even when I’m not travelling it’s one of those songs that constantly remind me of being on the road! – Kylie of Between England And Iowa
16. Montana – Owl City
Glacier National Park is one of my favorite places in the world. Owl City’s “Montana” is all about how the singer’s grandfather moved to Glacier when he was boy because he fell in love with it, so I relate to the song on a personal level.
But I think everyone has a place in the world where they feel most alive, and sometimes it takes traveling all over the world to find that place. And the song really speaks to that as well! – Maggie of Pink Caddy Travelogue
17. Renegades by X Ambassadors
The first time I heard Renegades by X Ambassadors, I knew this was going to be my theme song for every road trip from that moment on. No matter what I am doing, as soon as I hear this song it almost instantly starts me imaging climbing mountains, driving across prairies, and camping under the stars.
There’s a sense of freedom that I always feel when I hear the first few notes and I usually start thinking of where my next road trip will be. – Kristal of Adventure Dawgs
18. The Boys of Summer by Don Henley
This song reminds me of summer vacation growing up in the 1980’s – long sunny days spent at the beach and the pool. Wayfarers from Ray-Ban were super-cool thanks to Tom Cruise in Risky Business.
It’s a quintessential American summer with convertible cars, cut-off shirts and sun-bleached hair (with a little help from lemon juice). You went to evening baseball games, and ate hot dogs.
With any luck, an older friend would get you beer or at least a wine cooler. You had the feeling that summer would never end, school was a far away blip in the horizon and life was full of possibilities. – Shoba of Martha’s Vineyard Tourist
19. Africa – Toto
I have loved this song since I was a kid and it’s always inspired me to want to explore Africa , preferably on safari in the Serengeti.
Last year, we finally visited Africa and we did play it in the car as we headed to park. It was just a shame that it wasn’t raining! The best part is that now when I hear it, I remember our great trip and can picture the highlights of our safari. – Sharon of Dive Into Malaysia
20. The Ballad of Lucy Jordan – Marianne Faithfull
A song that has inspired me for years to travel before it’s too late. The Ballad of Lucy Jordan is about a woman who dreams of “riding through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in her hair”. The quiet intensity that Faithfull brings to this sad song has always said to me – travel now before it’s too late, go while you can.
This is a song about not burying your dreams and sacrificing yourself for others. It says to believe in yourself and make your own dreams come true and I believe that speaks to all travelers. – Faith of XYU And Beyond
21. Go Your Own Way – Fleetwood Mac
Go Your Own Way is THE anthem for my time spent driving in an old car from the UK, all the way to Mongolia (and back!). I blasted out this song across crazy mountain ranges, endless days of nothing in the desert; through the awesome times and the soul-crushing ones.
The Mongol Rally road trip is taken on by only the most adventurous. There’s no support, no set route – just the goal to make it to Mongolia alive. Not many people make it, but with my team of 4 amazing women, we made it and live to tell the tale! – Alice of Teacake Travels
22. This Time Tomorrow – Kinks
I’d like to nominate “This Time Tomorrow” by the Kinks as one of the best travel songs of all time. I mean it doesn’t get more appropriate than a song which begins with the sound of a plane taking off and repeats such important questions as “This time tomorrow, where will we be? what will we see? what will we know?”
The lyrics also perfectly captures the thoughts that you might have while peering out the window of the plane, which lines like “I’ll watch the clouds as they sadly pass me by.”
Lastly, the song inspired one of the greatest scenes in a Wes Anderson movie where the main characters chase the namesake train in The Darjeeling Limited while shedding their literal and proverbial baggage. This time tomorrow for the win! – Thea of Zen Travellers
23. Soaking up the Sun – Sheryl Crow
“Soaking up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow always takes me back to the time I left the concrete jungle of New York for the sunny shores of Northern California . It was right after graduating college, and I had fallen in love with the rugged coastline.
For the first time in my life, I felt free as I cruised down Highway 1 with the windows down in my used Toyota Tercel blasting the song and stopping at any beach that called to me. Whenever I listen to it now, it takes me back to those glorious days of carefree living on the left coast in the summer of 2002. – Lavanya of Nature Traveler
24. Rather Be – Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne
This song is our family travel anthem because to us it sums up everything that’s great about traveling the world in our little family unit. Our interpretation of the lyrics is that it’s all about getting out of your comfort zone, taking a chance and doing it, and it doesn’t matter where you are long as you’re all experiencing it together. Plus it’s a bonus that the video is shot in Tokyo , one of our favourite cities we’ve traveled to! – Kylie of Our Overseas Adventures

Two of my close friends recently got married and picked the Good Life as their wedding song! They met while studying abroad in London so it was pretty appropriate 🙂 Great post, thanks for sharing!

Let’s start with a bit Traveling Wilburys, these guys know how to make your trip more pleasant with a song.
1. Traveling Wilburys – End Of The Line
Well it’s all right, riding around in the breeze Well it’s all right if you live the life you please Well it’s all right, doing the best you can Well it’s all right, as long as you lend a hand
You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring (End of the Line) Waiting for someone to tell you everything (End of the Line) Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring (End of the Line) Maybe a diamond ring
2. A Thousand Miles – Vanessa Carlton
If I could fall into the sky Do you think time would pass me by? ‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles If I could just see you tonight
It’s always times like these When I think of you And I wonder if you ever think of me ‘Cause everything’s so wrong And I don’t belong Living in your precious memory
‘Cause I need you And I miss you And now I wonder
3. Kongos – Traveling On
So long my friend, my foe, my love, my pain The road’s calling out my name Dreaming of La Boheme Maybe I’ll go to Barbizon Or see a girl before she catches cold and she’s gone Or maybe I’ll just travel on Travel on
So long my flame, my warmth, my fear, my fight The road’s calling again tonight Dreaming under street lights Maybe I’ll catch a train to Rome See the world until I can’t go on Then maybe I’ll come traveling home
4. Travelling – Paper Lions
Travelling the road, last known is where I want to be My compass directing, electing, an open road with golden trees But there’s an old man in need on the ground, I try not to make a sound He holds out his hand as I walk away, I hear him say
Please don’t be a stranger in my place Traveling come to a tavern for a momentary rest I see the old man that I passed on the road in his distress As I turned to go I can hear him say, “Son, stay. Have a drink, I’ll pay.”
5. Peter, Paul, and Mary – Leaving on a Jet Plane.
So kiss me and smile for me Tell me that you’ll wait for me Hold me like you’ll never let me go
I’m leavin’ on a jet plane I don’t know when I’ll be back again Oh babe, I hate to go
Now the time has come to leave you One more time let me kiss you Then close your eyes, I’ll be on my way
Dream about the days to come When I won’t have to leave alone About the time, I won’t have to say
6. John Denver – Take Me Home, Country Roads
Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River. Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong. West Virginia, mountain mamma, take me home, country roads.
All my memories gather round her, miner’s lady, stranger to blue water. Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.
7. Passenger – Travelling Alone
This song is a very special one. It is about an old man traveling the world – missing his passed wife.
I included the video where Passenger explains the story behind the traveling song.
This is the full song and the official video:
8. Ricky Nelson – Travelin’ Man 1961
I’m a travelin’ man Made a lot of stops all over the world And in every port I own the heart Of at least one lovely girl
I’ve a pretty Seniorita waiting for me Down in old Mexico If you’re ever in Alaska stop and see My cute little Eskimo
Oh, my sweet Fraulien down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn And my China doll down in old Hong Kong Waits for my return
Pretty Polynesian baby, over the sea I remember the night When we walked in the sand of Waikiki And I held you, oh, so tight
9. BUDAPEST – George Ezra
My house in Budapest My, my hidden treasure chest Golden grand piano My beautiful Castillo
You Ooh, you Ooh, I’d leave it all
My acres of a land That I’ve achieved It may be hard for you to Stop and believe
10. Bright Eyes “First Day Of My Life”
This is the first day of my life Swear I was born right in the doorway I went out in the rain, suddenly everything changed They’re spreading blankets on the beach
Yours was the first face that I saw I think I was blind before I met you I don’t know where I am, I don’t know where I’ve been But I know where I want to go
And so I’d thought I’d let you know That these things take forever, I especially am slow But I realized that need you And I wondered if I could come home
13. Matt Simons – Catch & Release
There’s a place I go to Where no one knows me It’s not lonely It’s a necessary thing It’s a place I made up Find out what I’m made of The nights are stayed up Counting stars and fighting sleep Let it wash over me Ready to lose my feet
Take me on to the place where one reviews life’s mistery Steady on down the line Lose every sense of time Take it all in and wake up that small part of me Day to day I’m blind to see And find how far To go
Everybody got their reason Everybody got their way We’re just catching and releasing What builds up throughout the day
14. Ed Sheeran ft. Kygo – Running Away
I’ve known it for a long time Daddy wakes up to a drink at nine Disappearing all night I don’t wanna know where he’s been lying I know what I wanna do Wanna run away, run away with you Gonna grab clothes, six in the morning go
How long you leaving? Well, dad, just don’t expect me back this evening Oh, it could take a bit of time to heal this It’s been a long day, thumb on side of the roadway, but
I love him from my skin to my bones But I don’t wanna live in his home There’s nothing to say ’cause he knows I’ll just run away and be on my own
I’ve never seen my dad cry Cold as stone in the kitchen light I’ll tell you it’s about time But I was raised to keep quiet This is what I’m gonna do Gonna run away, gonna make that move Gonna grab clothes and when it’s morning go How long you leaving? Well, dad, just don’t expect me back this evening Oh, it could take a bit of time to heal this It’s been a long day, thumb on side of the roadway, but
15. American Authors – What We Live For
This is what I live for Baby, you’re my open road You can take me anywhere the wind blows Right into the great unknown We can throw our hands up out the window This is what we live for We look up at the stars, a perfect night to dream with you Got nineties retro on the radio, our favorite tune I put the pedal to the metal just to laugh with you It’s interstellar when it’s just us two
16. Tom Walker – Fly Away With Me
I’m strummin on the corner About to catch the last train home I’ll have to jump the barriers So can you spare a penny for my thoughts I’ve been praised upon the pavements Passers by don’t pay much Chased away by neighbours Seen things you couldnt make up If the streets could talk they’d tell a story or two I’ll paint a picture for you
I can tell you what it feels like To lose your home on a cold night Can you see the blood in my red eyes Have another total forget life So come on fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be And we can bottle up our fears Grow a taste so sweet, knock us off our feet and more Burn our troubles Inhale them all Paint our future on a fractured wall So come on fly away with me To a place where we can be anyone we wanna be
17. Epic Road Trip Acoustic/Folk/Indie Compilation – Summer 2017 (1-Hour Playlist) #3
18. Summer Drive Playlist (INDIE/POP/ALTERNATIVE MUSIC)
19. Daft Punk – Around The World
Around the world, around the world Around the world, around the world Around the world, around the world Around the world, around the world
20. Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc.
City’s breaking down on a camel’s back They just have to go ‘cause they don’t know whack So all you fill the streets, it’s appealin’ to see You won’t get out the county ‘cause you’re bad and free You got a new horizon, it’s ephemeral style A melancholy town where we never smile And all I wanna hear is the message beep
21. Ed Sheeran – Castle On The Hill
When I was six years old I broke my leg I was running from my brother and his friends And tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down I was younger then, take me back to when I
Found my heart and broke it here Made friends and lost them through the years And I’ve not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I’ve grown But I can’t wait to go home
I’m on my way Driving at ninety down those country lanes Singing to “Tiny Dancer” And I miss the way you make me feel, and it’s real We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
22. CHANGE by Some Poetries
As long as I turn my face into the light
I leave dark things behind
It feels like
I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive for the first time
Just because we found each other
Just because we cross dark ways
Just because of the pretty face
23. Our Adventure (EP) – The Long Valley
We found this travel music by chance.
We were looking for the most beautiful cities to visit in France, when we came across this video.
This video has the background music of “The Long Valley” “Our Adventure”.
24. Asaf Avidan – One day / Reckoning Song
One day baby, we’ll be old Oh baby, we’ll be old And think of all the stories that we could have told One day baby, we’ll be old
Oh baby, we’ll be old And think of all the stories that we could have told
No more tears, my heart is dry I don’t laugh and I don’t cry I don’t think about you all the time But when I do, I wonder why
25. Part-Time Friends – Here We Are
Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are Silence Et si les vagues éteignent nos âmes Dans l’étourdissant vacarme Here we are Dansent les milles visages Dans ce si beau mirage Here we are Je t’emmène une dernière fois suivre cette lumière qui ne s’éteint pas Here we are Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are
26. Jose Gonzalez – Step Out (from the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty)
Dark as night, let the lightning guide you
Time to step outside, time to step outside Time to step outside you
House on fire, leave it all behind you. Living life, feeding appetites. Stayed through every hard stop, every go. Being bland Breathing half the time. House on fire, leave it all behind you. Dark as night, let the lightning guide you
27. Coldplay – Gravity
Baby It’s been a long time coming Such a long, long time And I can’t stop running Such a long, long time Can you hear my heart beating? Can you hear that sound? ‘Cause I can’t help thinking And I won’t stop now And then I looked up at the sun
And I could see Oh, the way that gravity pulls on you and me And then I looked up at the sky And saw the sun And the way that gravity pushes on everyone On everyone
28. Imagine Dragons – Not Today from ME BEFORE YOU
There she goes in front of me Take my life and set me free again We’ll make a memory out of it Holy road is at my back Don’t look on, take me back again We’ll make a memory out of it We finally fall apart and we break each other’s hearts If we wanna live young, love, we better start today It’s gotta get easier, oh easier somehow ‘Cause I’m falling, I’m falling Oh easier and easier somehow Oh I’m calling, I’m calling And it isn’t over, unless it is over I don’t wanna wait for that It’s gotta get easier and easier somehow But not today Not today
29. Alkey – Travel of life
30. On Top Of The World by Imagine Dragons
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey I’m on top of the world, ‘ey Waiting on this for a while now Paying my dues to the dirt I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey Take it with me if I can Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world
I’ve tried to cut these corners Try to take the easy way out I kept on falling short of something
I could gave up then but Then again I couldn’t have ’cause
Covid-19 Travel Songs
It is indeed tough times; for pretty much all of us. We extended this list for favorite songs you can listen to when you are stuck at home due to lock-downs and restrictions.
O “Fly On” – Coldplay
A flock of birds Hovering above Just a flock of birds That’s how you think of love
And I always Look up to the sky Pray before the dawn ‘Cause they fly always Sometimes they arrive Sometimes they are gone
They fly on A flock of birds Hovering above Into smoke I’m turned and rise Following them up Still I always
Look up to the sky Pray before the dawn ‘Cause they fly always One minute they arrive
It’s Time – Imagine Dragons
So, this is what you meant? When you said that you were spent And now it’s time to build from the bottom of the pit Right to the top
Don’t hold back Packing my bags and giving the academy a rain check I don’t ever wanna let you down I don’t ever wanna leave this town ‘Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night It’s time to begin, isn’t it? I get a little bit bigger, but then I’ll admit I’m just the same as I was
Now don’t you understand That I’m never changing who I am So this is where you fell And I am left to sell The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell
Right to the top Don’t look back Turning to rags and giving the commodities a rain check
Dani Martin – Cero (Spanish Song)
All what we saw has gone I dreamed that always I’d go by side That what we invented it’s not anymore Now just exists past
And it’s time for me to understand What I do with your hugs Now it’s time to learn How to stop loving To know how to erase it well And how It comes it gone That today it’s ZERO
I want That everything starts all over again That everything turn back That everything comes from Zero From zero
And I want that everything sounds again That everything shines again That everything comes from zero From zero
Original Lyrics in Spanish:
Quiero… Que todo vuelva a empezar Que todo vuelva a girar Que todo venga de cero De cero
Y quiero que todo vuelva a sonar Que todo vuelva a brillar Que todo venga de cero De cero
Queen – We Are The Champions
I’ve paid my dues Time after time I’ve done my sentence But committed no crime
And bad mistakes I’ve made a few I’ve had my share of sand Kicked in my face But I’ve come through And we mean to go on and on and on and on We are the champions, my friends And we’ll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers ‘Cause we are the champions of the World
Skylar Grey – Coming Home

30 Road Trip Hindi Songs to Ad in Your Travel Playlist
We went ahead and made the complete list on Spotify for you here - Holidify's Road Trip Playlist .
1. Yunhi Chala Chal (Swades)
If you're treading along the lesser travelled roads of India, make sure you have this song on your playlist to keep your spirits up when you are squashed in a bus full of locals. Bonus fun if you can find a 'baba' to sing along on the trip.
2. Dil Chahta Hai (Title Track)
It's hard to leave this one of the list. Farhan Akhtar's 2001 debut film is when travel took a front seat in a Bollywood film than just as a backdrop to a scene. Dil Chahta Hai in our opinion will always remain the ultimate hindi travel song for road trips, especially if during from Mumbai to Goa through the Konkan coast, where this song was shot.
3. Khwabon Ke Parindey (ZNMD)
Exactly ten years later, Farhan Akhtar's sister Zoya comes out with an extension of the road trip vibe movie, only this time on a much larger scale. As a result, we have a film that not only has travel as the central theme but inspires you to travel . Haven't you all tried waving your hand against the wind, as Hrithik did?
4. Tanha Dil (Shaan)
5. Suhana Safar Aur Ye (Madhumati)
There is a reason why 'old is gold', it's because of classics like this song. From the 1958 movie Madhumati, picturized on Dilip Kumar and Vyjantimala, the tune is so melodious you can't help but hum along with it - A must add on your list of road trip songs.
6. Hum Jo Chalne Lage (Jab We Met)
7. Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana (Andaaz)
8. Yeh Dil Na Hota Bechara (Jewel Thief)
Another of Kishore Kumar's best songs, add to that the evergreen Dev Anand's classic strut and you can't help but tap your feet to tunes of S.D. Burman's music while taking in the scenic beauty of the trip. We wholeheartedly approve that this song be added to the greatest list of best hindi travel songs ever.
9. Aaj Kal Zindagi (Wake up Sid)
Whether you're trying to scale the Mt. Everest or take a plunge in the Arabian Sea, this feel-good song is all the pep talk you need. From the movie Wake up Sid, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's beautiful composition!
10. Ilahi (YJHD)
Admit it, you wished for Bunny aka Kabir aka Ranbir's life in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. You repeated this dialogue, " Main udna chahta hoon, daudna chahta hoon, girna bhi chahta hoon bus rukhna nahi chahta" , to anyone who asked you why you want to travel !
11. Patakha Guddi (Highway)
This song from Highway won everyone's heart with its catchy lyrics and music and awesome video showing an actual road-trip ! Put on your headphones, turn up the volume and take a lift on the back of a truck for the best experience.
13. Musafir Hoon Yaaron
14. Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara - Solva Saal
One of the best songs to bounce to, this number so aptly reverberates with the ethos of our generation, that it is impossible to not be in love with. All the more so when we have our travelling boots on! It is surely one of the best Hindi travel songs from the bygone era.
15. Kabira (Ye Jawani Hai Deewani)
Bunny was pretty nomadic, and boy wasn't his life awesome! Kabira is perfect for when you're leaving a tiny part of your heart in a new place and are dealing with all the blues of separation.

16. Azaadiyan (Udaan)
Strict mucchhadd dad, cute son, a cuter younger son, and a lovely song all about freedom. The travel playlist is just incomplete without this contemporary classic from Bollywood.

Songs of Travel, an animated graphic novel to launch this 2024 on Android and iOS
Mix of storytelling and gameplay.
Another new story-based title is gearing up for mobile with Songs of Travel , an animated graphic novel developed by Vienna-based Causa Creations , set to launch in 2024 on Android and iOS.
Songs of Travel unfolds the stories of five protagonists
From the moment I looked at this game’s visuals, I liked how well-colorized the art style is. Since this is an animated novel, the parts needed to be vibrant, and I see the developers have done that part well. Coming to the game description, we embark on a journey through the lives of five migrants as they seek new beginnings in Europe.
We have five protagonists in this game, and we get to know the journeys of Light, Van, Michele, Hasan, and Olya as they navigate the complexities of displacement and resilience in their quest for belonging and new beginnings. The stories explore hope, identity, and home, revealing the precious things we value through diverse human experiences.
Through the fusion of music and storytelling, the tales unfold against a backdrop of carefully selected compositions by Northern Irish composer Elaine Agnew. These melodies serve as a vital component, enhancing the emotional resonance of the narratives. The project is enriched by the involvement of Syrian artist Jack Gutmann, co-creator of the acclaimed game Path Out alongside Causa Creations.
In my opinion, the game would find itself in a unique category and can be a great pick for those who love a narrative buildup. Keep an eye out for updates as the specific release dates for 2024 have yet to be announced.
