These teams are scheduled to tour Pakistan till 2025
List of teams and tournaments that will be played in Pakistan in the next four years

22 December, 2021
Pakistan suffered a major blow back in 2009 when the Sri Lankan cricket team was made the target of a terrorist attack. The repercussions of this event are still felt even to this day, which is something the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been aiming to eradicate completely for years.
With Pakistan's image shattered on the international stage, Pakistan was forced to play all of its home series in the UAE; this not only was inconvenient but also depleted a lot of the funds which could have been spent on the development of cricket, and more.
As years passed, Pakistan started to revive the culture of cricket on home soil; the PCB organised Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Pakistan, hosted World XI matches, and then hosted international series against the likes of Zimbabwe, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and West Indies. With these tours going smoothly and without any security blip, other teams were also encouraged to tour Pakistan until New Zealand recently pulled out of the series, citing a 'security threat'.
Following New Zealand, England also cancelled their tour to Pakistan. This reminded Pakistani fans of the era which followed after the Sri Lankan team was attacked and having made such progress, no fan was willing to accept it. The PCB, however, made extreme efforts to ensure that cricket in Pakistan is not halted for long.
It is worth adding that in addition to the international series, Pakistan will also be hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, which is also a huge boost.
After successful negotiations, these teams are scheduled to tour Pakistan in the next four years:
- 3 Tests, 3 ODIs, 1 T20I
- 2 Tests, 3 ODIs
- 5 ODIs, 5 T20Is
- 6 teams participating

PCB unveils Pakistan’s Future Tours Programme from 2023 to 2027
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the country’s cricketing schedule under the next Future Tours Programme which will take place from 2023 to 2027.
According to the governing body of Pakistan cricket, player workload management, exciting bilateral series and preparations for ICC’s global events were the main cornerstones of PCB’s strategy while shaping up the schedule.
During the four-year cycle, Pakistan will contest 27 ICC World Test Championship fixtures (13 at home and 14 away), play 47 One-Day Internationals (26 at home and 21 away) and feature in 56 Twenty20 Internationals (27 home and 29 away).
The number of matches may increase depending on where Pakistan finishes in the ICC and ACC events between 2023 and 2027, as well as in the 2025 and 2026 three-nation ODI series. Pakistan also retains the option of adding more matches based on player availability and the window for international cricket in the calendar with the willingness of other countries.
In the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025, Pakistan will play Tests against Australia (away), Bangladesh (home), England (home), South Africa (away), Sri Lanka (away) and West Indies (home), while their matches in the 2025-2027 championship are against Bangladesh (away), England (away), New Zealand (home), South Africa (home), Sri Lanka (home) and West Indies (away).
In the Future Tours Programme announced by the PCB, the three-nation ODI series will make a return for the first time since 2004-05.
New Zealand and South Africa will join Pakistan in the tri-series in 2025, which will take place in the build-up to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, while England and Sri Lanka will participate in the series in October/November 2026.
While Pakistan will host the Asia Cup 2023 and triangular series in February 2025 in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, respectively, it will play 11 T20Is against the Netherlands, Ireland and England in the build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be jointly hosted by the United States and the West Indies.
Likewise, ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, Pakistan will play Australia in three home T20Is. Apart from Australia, three other sides – Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe – will also play white-ball matches in Pakistan between 2023 and 2027.

The independent voice of cricket
Key takeaways from the 2023-2027 Future Tours Programme
We live in an era where cricket’s conventional geopolitical hierarchy is being consistently challenged. With their Future Tours Programme for 2023-27, the ICC has made significant efforts to put more international cricket back into the global calendar.
Bringing back parity
The number of matches played by each of the twelve Full Members are more evenly matched than the previous FTP (2018-2023). Bangladesh (150) are set to play the most matches across formats, followed by West Indies (147). Bangladesh’s numbers are encouraging for the purists: they play 34 Test matches, the most after England (43), Australia (40), and India (38).
West Indies, on the other hand, play 73 T20Is. India (61) are the only other team to cross the 60-mark.
At the same time, no team plays fewer than 109 matches. The only concern is the low count for South Africa (113), just when they seem to have emerged from multiple retirements to take steps towards emulating their halcyon days.
ODIs are back
The rise of franchise-based T20 leagues has been pushing international cricket back for some time. Test cricket retained its ‘prestige format’ status, while T20Is fitted into the family evening television slots, and were easier to adapt to for T20 specialists. As a result, ODIs suffered more than the others.
Since August 17 2019, Full Members have played 119 Test matches, 157 ODIs, and 317 T20Is till date. Over the next FTP, the corresponding counts are – in that order – 346, 564, and 653. While T20Is still top the list in terms of amount, the percentage share of the format drops from 53 to 42.
The drop has not resulted in a significant rise in Test matches (20 per cent to 22 per cent), but we shall return to Test cricket later. The biggest beneficiary of the new schedule has been ODIs, which will consist of over 36 per cent of all international matches between Full Members – a steep rise from 26 percent. The ICC’s efforts are visible.
Over the past few years, the ICC has already elevated new teams to ODI status. The idea, perhaps, is to establish ODIs as the ‘prestige format’ for Associate Nations. The expansion of the World Cup, starting 2027, will merely enhance that cause.
The other key addition has been the return of triangular tournaments, a concept that had taken off along in the late 1970s in Australia, and had been instrumental behind the popularity of the format in the 1990s. A tried-and-tested method, they are likely to bring ODIs back to the fray.
Diversity in Test cricket
Since their debut against India at Bengaluru in 2018, Afghanistan have played six Tests in four years, despite wins against Ireland and Zimbabwe, and most significantly, Bangladesh in their den. Ireland, who debuted alongside Afghanistan that same year, have played three. They have lost all three, but they did reduce Pakistan to 159-6 in their first day in Test cricket, and bowled out England for 85 at Lord’s.
What about Zimbabwe? If 115 Tests since 1992 (under four a year) seems low, this is worse: in the last five years, they have played just 13, and none in the past 13 months. None of those 13 matches were against India, England, or Australia.
None of the three feature in the World Test Championship. That had allowed the other teams to avoid playing them, because they do not have a particular reason to. Already the least inclusive format (in terms of both gender and geography), Test cricket had managed to segregate its group of twelve elites as well.
Now, between 2023 and 2027, Afghanistan are set to play 22 Tests, Ireland 14, and Zimbabwe 23. This is a significant improvement on the last five years, when they had played 22 Tests combined . While many of their Test matches will be against each other, they will also play other teams. Afghanistan, for example, will also play India, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Bangladesh. And so on.
Big Three dominate
India and Australia both already play five-match Test series against England. They have announced the same length for the bilateral series between them. This, when the last four -match bilateral series not involving a Big Three side came back in 2005.
Despite the ICC’s attempts to expand Test cricket, this is unlikely to change anytime in future. Test cricket – the least commercially viable format – will continue to find a way, albeit in a skewed world.

Pakistan’s Future Tour Program For 2019-2023 Cycle Announced
Since the ICC has approved a Test Championship for all the Test playing nations which will begin after the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, there has been a lot of say over the proposal, some have criticised, and some have been for the decision made by ICC. Cricket boards have also expressed their views on the decision made by the governing body. Most active cricket board on the decision has been the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The PCB had earlier said if India and Pakistan don’t play against each other in the Test Championship then there is no point of having such a proposal, many former Pakistani cricketers also backed this.
The ICC on Wednesday announced a proposed Future Tour Program for the four-year cycle from 2019 to 2023 and Pakistan will play 28 Test matches in the four years. The number of Test matches played by Pakistan is fewer than the number of Tests allocated to Bangladesh who will play 35 Tests.
However, the proposed FTP does not have a single series between India and Pakistan.
Their Test Championship campaign begins in 2019-20 when they host South Africa and then tour Australia and New Zealand. Then in 2020-21, they will host Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and tour England.
The final of the Championship is scheduled to be played in June 2021.
The second cycle of Test Championship begins in 2021-22 when Pakistan host Australia and then tour Bangladesh and West Indies for Tests. In 2022-23, Pakistan will host England and New Zealand for home series, and tour Sri Lanka for the away series to complete the second cycle of Test Championship.
The FTP will be implemented if the PCB agrees on the schedule without any changes. The proposed FTP will be presented for initial approval before the ICC’s chief executive committee in February, and once it is approved, it will be presented for final approval from the ICC board in June 2018.

According to a report in USA Today , tickets for two of India's matches, one against Pakistan on June 9 in New York and the other against Canada on June 15 in Florida, both already sold out, are now available at more than double their original price – some reaching as high as ₹ 1.86 crore – on resale platforms like StubHub and SeatGeek.
According to the ICC website link facilitating the sale of tickets in the first phase, the minimum price of a ticket was ₹ 497, while the most expensive ticket was ₹ 33,148 without taxes. The apex body had mentioned that "no additional fees will be imposed beyond the specified taxes".

However, on these resale websites, prices of VIP tickets were offered close to ₹ 33.15 lakh. And if the platform fee is to be added, the total swells to somewhere around ₹ 41.44 lakh. On StubHub, the cheapest ticket for the match between India and Pakistan is ₹ 1.04 lakh, whereas on SeatGeek, the most expensive ticket for the same is for ₹ 1.86 crore, including the platform fee.
Tickets prices more than thrice of INDO-PAK World Cup 2023?
This is more than thrice the price of the highest-priced ticket in the secondary market for the match between India and Pakistan at the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Viagogo, which claims to be the "world's largest secondary marketplace for tickets to live events", had displayed the most expensive ticket for the game at ₹ 57.15 lakh.
Phase 1 of the ticket sales for the 2024 T20 World Cup kicked off on February 22, following a public ballot window, where tickets for limited matches were be made available for sale on a first come, first served basis. In just about 10 days time, these tickets have made their way into the resale market, where increased demand for them, especially for the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan, led to prices exploding, reaching a level that could rival the NBA or Major League Baseball.
The USA Today report further revealed that the average price of tickets for the World Series was ₹ 91,175, courtside tickets for the NBA Finals were almost ₹ 20 lakh, and that of Super Bowl 58 was ₹ 7.45 lakh.

Shanaka guides Sri Lanka to dramatic T20 win over Bangladesh
- ICC World Cup 2023
The series marks the start of Sri Lanka’s month-long tour of Bangladesh
Sylhet, Bangladesh: Dasun Shanaka held his nerve under pressure to take two wickets in the final over, snatching a dramatic three-run win for Sri Lanka in the opening Twenty20 international of a three-match series against Bangladesh in Sylhet on Monday.
Set a target of 207 runs, lower middle-order batsman Jaker Ali took Bangladesh close with his maiden fifty before Shanaka ended his 34-ball innings of 68 with the third ball of the last over.
Shoriful Islam hit a four from the next ball, leaving Bangladesh requiring six from their last two balls.
But the hosts could manage only two runs to be restricted to 203-8, with Shanaka, who also dismissed Rishad Hossain in the first ball of the final over, finishing with 2-36.
Early damage
Former skipper Angelo Mathews claimed 2-17 to inflict some early damage on the Bangladesh innings before veteran Mahmudullah Riyad struck 54 off 31 balls to revive the hopes of the home side.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis earlier slammed a fifty each to guide Sri Lanka to 206-3 after Bangladesh sent them in.
Samarawickrama struck an unbeaten 61 off 48 balls after Mendis hit 59 off 36 balls as the visitors overcame a slow start to put up an imposing total.
Stand-in skipper Charith Asalanka played his part with an unbeaten 44 from 21 balls.
Mendis and Samarawickrama shared 96 runs for the third wicket after Sri Lanka lost their first two wickets for 37 runs.
Shoriful removed Avishka Fernando for four with the second ball of the innings before Taskin Ahmed had Kamindu Mendis caught by Soumya Sarkar at midwicket for 19.
Mendis hit leg-spinner Rishad for a four and two sixes off consecutive balls to race to his fifty off 27 balls.
Rishad returned for his next spell to exact revenge as Mahmudullah took a well-judged catch at long off boundary to end the innings of Mendis.
Asalanka joined Samarawickrama to continue the assault, adding 73 for the unbroken fourth wicket, including 24 runs from the last over of the innings bowled by Mustafizur Rahman.
The series marks the start of Sri Lanka’s month-long tour of Bangladesh, which also includes three one-day internationals and two Tests.
