Dover Cruise looks back on incredible Carnival season with pride as it celebrates largest number of calls

The Port of Dover has said a fond farewell to Carnival Pride until next year, marking its most successful season with the cruise line, which included 10 visits in total. As her UK homeport, Dover has welcomed thousands of passengers to Kent over the summer through this set of calls alone.

Sonia Limbrick, Head of Cruise at the Port of Dover said:

“It’s been an amazing season with Carnival Pride. We have loved seeing her take pride of place in front of the White Cliffs week after week and her guests’ embarking on their holiday of a lifetime.”

“15 years since our first visit from Carnival Splendor, I’m proud to see our brilliant relationship with Carnival reach a new level of success. We eagerly await their return in June 2024 and are already preparing more world class travel experiences for their passengers.”

Sarah Beth Reno, Senior Vice President of Guest Operations at Carnival Cruise Line added:

“We are grateful to our partners at the Port of Dover. Carnival Pride’s sailings this season have given thousands of guests great memories to look back on, and now we are planning to create more special experiences for Carnival Legend’s deployment during our next European season in 2024.”

As the beginning and finale of Carnival Pride’s European cruises, guests have explored Dover’s unrivalled views, inspiring heritage, and brand-new waterfront for the first time in 2023. At the doorstep of Kent, less than an hour away from London, and the gateway to Europe, guests continue to choose Dover as the ideal UK destination to embark on a cruise.

Notes to Editors

  • The Port of Dover is closing the gap every day between the UK and the world by connecting trade, travel, visitors and communities locally-globally, collaborating with local and international partners to create a more seamless, sustainable and tech-enabled port.
  • As the UK’s busiest international ferry port and a vital gateway for the movement of people and trade, Dover handles £144 billion of trade per year, 33% of UK trade in goods with the EU and welcomes over 11 million passengers.
  • Dover is also an award-winning cruise port, delivering world class travel and visitor experiences to the most prestigious cruise lines. With a growing and diversifying cargo business operating from state-of-the-art facilities, a brand-new marina which is a major feature of the exciting waterfront development, and opportunities for further expansion in the future, Dover’s proud history dating back 400 years has a new modern twist.

Carnival Cruise Line returns to Dover with series of sailings on Carnival Pride

Carnival Pride in Dover

13 June 2022

For the first time in nearly a decade, Carnival Cruise Line is sailing from Dover with Carnival Pride’s inaugural departure from the port taking place on 10th June.

Carnival Pride’s departure began a nine-day journey visiting the Norwegian Fjords, with stops in Stavanger, Skjolden, Alesund, Molde and Bergen – and including scenic cruising through Nordfjord and Sognefjord.

Carnival Pride is scheduled for eight more departures from Dover this summer. A variety of sailings featuring nine- and 12-day itineraries including stops at popular ports across Europe are offered.

Carnival last departed from Dover in 2013, and the cruise line’s return to the Port of Dover is part of a series of European cruises operating on Carnival Pride.

“We are immensely proud to be welcoming Carnival Cruise Line back to Dover and honoured to be part of Carnival’s 50th Birthday celebration with the kickoff of nine fantastic turnaround calls starting today,” said Sonia Limbrick, Head of Cruise, Port of Dover. “To celebrate, we’ve brought out performances by top UK brass quintet ‘Premium Brass’ and pianist and singer Nick Bosworth, as well as a water cannon salute from the Port’s very own tugs with the iconic backdrop of our famous White Cliffs. Together, with our strong transport links, beautiful surrounding towns, and famous cultural sites, as well as our important sustainability credentials, the collective pride of our service and location should make Carnival Pride feel right at home.”

Carnival Pride Itineraries

Carnival pride review, review of carnival pride.

The 2002-built Carnival Pride cruise ship is the second of four Spirit-class CCL liners, together with the fleetmates Miracle , Spirit and Legend , as well as Costa 's liners Atlantica and Mediterranea . The boat cost USD 375 million to build and was last refurbished in 2023.

The vessel (IMO number 9223954) is currently Panama- flagged (MMSI 354215000) and registered in Colon .

History - construction and ownership

Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) is a US shipping company, trademarked brand and subsidiary of Carnival Corporation (shipowner). CCL was founded in 1972 as an independent company by Ted Arison (1924-1999, co-founder of NCL Norwegian ).

CCL has the Corporation's largest fleet as number of vessels and GT-tonnage (ship sizes/volumes and passenger capacities). In 2023, CCL had ~9% (by revenue) and ~19% (passengers) share of the cruise industry's worldwide market. In 2024, the parent company (Carnival Corporation) had ~51% stake in the US$64+ billion industry.

Carnival Pride cruise ship

The 2100-passenger ship Carnival Pride introduced some significant firsts for the company, including onboard wedding chapels and alternative restaurants. Spirit-class ships also boast an impressive 80% ratio of outside cabins and lots of nice little touches such as 'designer' martinis and museum-quality artwork.

Decks and Cabins

Carnival Pride staterooms (1062 total, in 28 categories) include 50 Suites, 634 Balcony, 171 Oceanview and 215 Inside cabins. The ship has 16 wheelchair-accessible cabins but no Spa cabins. Most cabins are sized 185 ft2 (17 m2). Most cabin balconies are sized 40 ft2 (4 m2). Suites are 4 types (Grand, Vista, Ocean, Junior), the largest are Grand Suites (300 ft2 / 28 m2 plus 115 ft2 / 11 m2 terrace).

The boat has 12 passenger decks of which 6 are with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

It's surprising that there is only one main restaurant on such a big ship, but the huge stern-located Normandie Restaurant works surprisingly well. With windows on three sides and design which cantilevers the restaurant's upper level over most of the lower one, Normandie somehow manages to baffle the noise of ~1000 cruisers.

For a casual meal, head to Lido Deck which entire back half is occupied by dining tables and various food stations.

The Mermaid Grille also serves as a casual dinner alternative, and Mermaid Bistro is the buffet-style Lido dining option. Instead of offering one buffet line, it divides the stations into small groupings spread around the space and surrounded with tables. Also on Lido Deck and also complimentary are the Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina.

Carnival Pride has expanded its international offerings by including Bonsai Sushi, which is not just a sushi bar, but an entire Asian restaurant. A really fine dining establishment is the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse (fka David's Steakhouse) at the top of the Atrium and beneath the glass dome. The Steakhouse restaurant is reservations-only and at surcharge per person.

Carnival Pride cruise ship

Follows the complete list of Carnival Pride restaurants and food bars.

  • Normandie Restaurant (1250-seat aft Dining Room, with two fixed dinner seatings, or “Your Time Dining”; offers “Seuss At Sea” themed breakfasts for $5; with the Captain’s Club Room restaurant annex).
  • Mermaid’s Grille Lido Buffet Restaurant (1458-seat self-service restaurant with complimentary food stations; operates as dinner bistro in the evenings)
  • Sushi Bar (complimentary)

During drydock 2023, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse replaced David’s Steakhouse (156-seat reservations-only restaurant) serving seafood and prime beef steaks, and featuring a dance floor and stage (for live performances).

Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse (decks 10-11) is a 2-floor premium steakhouse/seafood restaurant at surcharge (reservations recommended) with indoor/outdoor seating and open between 6-9:30 pm. The cover charge fee of $35 pp (adults/kids) includes 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 dessert and gratuity. Steakhouse’s menu has starters (escargots, grilled mushroom, tuna tartare, shrimp cocktail, crab cake, lobster bisque, onion soup), salads (Caesar, spinach/mushrooms, iceberg lettuce, beefsteak tomato), sides (Baked Potatoes, Sauteed Mushrooms, Creamed Spinach, Steamed Broccoli), entrees (prime-aged beef steaks – 14oz NY strip loin, 18oz rib and 18oz ribeye, 9oz filet mignon, lamb chops, chicken, Maine lobster, fish fillet from the market /itinerary based), desserts (cheesecake, caramelized apples, chocolate sampler, fresh fruits, selections of cheeses, sherbets and ice creams). The Steakhouse also serves beverages (bar prices apply) – fresh coffee/tea, dessert wines and after-dinner drinks. The food is wheeled on a cart to your table for examination. A cooking demonstration offers an hour-long presentation from a team of chefs. At the steakhouse can also be made reservations (bookings) for the “Chef’s Table” (private dinner package).

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The liner's onboard collection has artworks of Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Botticelli, as well as architectural details of Ancient Greece, Byzantine Empire, Renaissance Italy, Beaux-Arts France, Victorian England. CCL's long-time interior projector, Joe Farcus, chose “Icons of Beauty” as the vessel's theme: beauty in life, art, architecture, the human body, and the human spirit. The ship has 16 bars and lounges, 4 swimming pools and 4 hot tubs. The well-equipped kids' center Camp Carnival provides complimentary activities, luring families with children of all ages.

Carnival Pride cruise ship

During the drydocking was also added CCL's signature aqua park Carnival Waterworks ( deck 11 ).

Carnival WaterWorks is open between 10 am - 5 pm, and consist of Splash Zone (fountains, water spray cannons, jets, splash pools), a kids pool, two mini racing slides for kids, Power Drencher (150-gallon / 570 liters tipping bucket that reverses poles to dump its huge amount of water at regular intervals), Green Thunder (187 ft / 57 m long thrill slide, water speed 25 mph / 40 kph, with a 34 ft / 10 m long drop), Twister Waterslide (spiraling tube, 214 ft / 65 m long, entrance level /ends on deck 10). In June 2022, the liner started an ex-UK program based on homeporting in Dover England and 9-day and 12-day itineraries visiting ports in the UK (Scotland, Wales, Ireland), Atlantic Europe (Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Netherlands), Baltic (Norwegian Fjords). Carnival Pride Wiki

Fun Ship 2.0 upgrade was done in 2013. Pride is of CCL-Carnival's Spirit-class liners, with sisterships Legend , Miracle , Spirit , also Costa Atlantica and Costa Mediterranea . The vessel was christened by godmother Tamara Jernigan (Tamara Elizabeth "Tammy" Jernigan) - US scientist, former NASA astronaut (with 5 "Space Shuttle" missions/spending total 1512 hours/63 days in space). The inaugural cruise (maiden voyage) started on January 12, 2002, and up until 2014, Pride's homeport was Baltimore MD .

The ship design theme is "Icons of Beauty" (done by Joe Farcus). The theme is based on beauty in art, beauty in the human body, beauty in the world's architecture, and beauty in life as general. The ship has a multi-million dollar artwork collection with numerous pieces on display in public areas. The artworks include Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli, Da Vinci, also details of the architecture in Byzantine Empire, Victorian England, Ancient Greece, Italian Renaissance.

On February 5, 2017, the liner was chartered by "Bare Necessities Tour and Travel" for the agency's "Big Nude Boat Cruise". The themed cruise experience was offered on a 9-day roundtrip itinerary from homeport Tampa FL (Feb 5-14) with call ports Key West , Half Moon Cay Island , Grand Turk Island , and Amber Cove (Dominicana) . Passengers attended several pre-scheduled onboard special events, including the "For the Love of Nudism Film Festival". However, clothing was required when the liner entered a seaport and also during meals.

Fun fact is that this Carnival ship has a namesake - the 2014-launched "HYUNDAI Pride". The vessel is among the world's largest container ships (capacity 13,100 TEU-containers) and operated by Hyundai Merchant Marine .

Carnival Pride refurbishments review

In 2023 (April 28 thru May 27) Carnival Pride entered drydock for a major refit and refurbishment at Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz Spain .

During drydocking 2023, the ship received three new venues (Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, Carnival Adventures Shop, Dreams Photo Studio) and the wellness complex (Cloud 9 Spa & Fitness Center) was fully renovated and received new equipment. The hull was cleaned/repainted and CCL's new livery (red-white-blue) was added. The ship also received various machinery and equipment overhauls and upgrades.

  • Beauties Dance Club's lower level (aft-portside on Deck 1) was replaced with passenger cabins and the Chef's Table (VIP Dining Room).
  • On Deck 2, the Skybox Sports Bar was replaced with the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge and the Crystal Card Room was replaced with Carnival Adventures Store. The Casino was redesigned and expanded. Shore Excursions Desk was renamed Carnival Adventures. In the Lobby was added the Dreams Studio (photo sessions studio).
  • On Deck 3, Nobel Library/Internet Cafe and the adjacent The Chappel were replaced with The Warehouse Arcade (arcade video games).
  • On Deck 4 (forward-portside), the Real Virtuality Video Arcade was replaced with The Cove (teens lounge).
  • On Deck 5, Camp Carnival was renamed Camp Ocean.
  • On Deck 10 (aft), the David's Steakhouse was replaced with Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse (on 2 levels).
  • On Deck 11 (aft) was added the aqua park Carnival Waterworks.

Drydock 2023 also included the renovation of 450 cabin balconies.

Carnival Pride's previous major drydock refurb projects were conducted in 2019 (Feb 3-16/Fun Ship 2.0 upgrade) and 2014 (Oct 19 - Nov 9).

But for something a little more casual, loosen your tie... or maybe just throw it away and grab a main course (and fries) from our main man Guy Fieri, at Guy's Burger Joint ™ . The Mexican heat's optional at BlueIguana Cantina ™ , but make your next stop Cherry on Top ™ — our candy-and-more store — where everything's sweet. And to raise a glass to important sacrifices of the past, Heroes Tribute Bar makes remembrance its primary objective. You'll find yourself with room to move at the Beauties Dance Club, and a hard time sitting still at Playlist Productions ™ . All around this cruise ship you'll discover even more ways to stay cool, like an adult-only pool at Serenity, a fun-only midship pool featuring a retractable roof, plus Carnival Pride's splashy onboard waterpark, Carnival WaterWorks ™ . And if all the waterslide action leaves you needing a little extra unwinding, we recommend you dry off and head to the Cloud 9 Spa ™ . Alongside the pool is the big-screen, big-fun Carnival Seaside Theater ™ , while Seuss at Sea ™ is a good time for kids who love a good rhyme too. (Like we do!) Camp Ocean ® , Circle "C" ® and Club O2 ® prove that we've got spots for cool kids of all ages.

Port of Baltimore suspends ship traffic after bridge collapse: What it means for travel

Travel is being impacted by Tuesday’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse along Interstate 695 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Drivers were immediately directed to take alternate routes through the city, following the early morning incident. What’s less clear is what the bridge collapse may mean for upcoming cruises in and out of Baltimore.

“Vessel traffic into and out of the Port of Baltimore is suspended until further notice,” the Port of Baltimore posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Live Updates: Baltimore's Key Bridge collapses after ship hits it; construction crew missing

Rep. Kweisi Mfume, D-Md., whose district includes the bridge and the port, called the collapse an “unthinkable horror” and said he had spoken with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and the White House.

“They are responding with all of the assets at their disposal,” he said in a statement. “Our prayers right now are for the missing individuals and victims of this tragedy. We thank God for the effective service of our first responders.”

Here’s what we know.

Which cruises go to Baltimore?

Several major cruise lines serve Baltimore. According to the Cruise Lines International Association, the industry’s leading trade group, published itineraries in the 2024 calendar year include a dozen ships making 115 stops in Baltimore.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy and collapse of the Key Bridge that occurred last night and extend our support and heartfelt prayers to all those impacted,” CLIA spokesperson Anne Madison said in an emailed statement. “We join everyone in extending our thanks and appreciation to the first responders and emergency workers in Baltimore, the U.S. Coast Guard, and other professionals who are working with one goal in mind—to save lives. We are closely following this situation.”

Carnival’s website shows Carnival Pride and Carnival Legend also have sailings into or out of Baltimore set for April.

Carnival Legend will temporarily move operations to Norfolk, Virginia.

The ship's current cruise, which left for a planned round-trip sailing from Baltimore on March 24, will end in Norfolk on Sunday. Passengers will then receive free bus rides to Baltimore. The vessel's next cruise will sail round-trip from Norfolk later that day.

“Our thoughts remain with the impacted families and first responders in Baltimore,” Carnival president Christine Duffy said in a statement. “We appreciate the pledge made by President Biden today to dedicate all available resources to reopen Baltimore Harbor to marine traffic as soon as possible. As those plans are finalized, we will update our future cruise guests on when we will return home to Baltimore, but in the meantime, we appreciate the quick response and support from officials in Norfolk.”

The cruise line has not yet shared plans for Carnival Pride. Carnival's parent company, Carnival Corp., said the temporary change in homeport is estimated to have an impact of up to $10 million on adjusted EBITDA and adjusted net income this year, according to a news release .

Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas, which left from Baltimore on March 23 , will return to Norfolk instead on April 4. "Our guests on board will be provided compensation and complimentary shuttle transportation as well as Wi-Fi and phone calls to adjust their travel arrangements," a spokesperson said in an email.

The ship's April 4 and 12 cruises will leave from Norfolk, too. "Our guests booked to sail with us will receive compensation due to the necessary adjustments made to their vacations," the spokesperson added. "After returning from the April 12 cruise, Vision will head to the Bahamas for its previously scheduled maintenance."

Was your cruise itinerary changed?: What to do next

American Cruise Lines has roundtrip sailings from Baltimore scheduled in May, according to its website.

“We will monitor the situation and make adjustments to future cruises if needed, but at the present time our schedules remain unaffected, and our thoughts remain with those affected by the immediate situation and rescue efforts underway,” an American Cruise Lines spokesperson told USA TODAY.

Norwegian Cruise Line doesn’t appear to have any Baltimore sailings until September on Norwegian Sky . The line will stay in contact with the port and share any changes with passengers and travel partners, according to a spokesperson.

"In the meantime, we wish the city of Baltimore strength during this very unfortunate event," they said in an email.

Alternate routes for the Baltimore bridge

Most drivers can take Interstate 95 (Fort McHenry Tunnel) or Interstate 895 (Baltimore Harbor Tunnel) to avoid the collapsed bridge. However Maryland Transportation Authority notes there are some exceptions .

Vehicles carrying hazardous materials, including more than 10 pounds of propane, are not allowed in the tunnels. Additionally, vehicles more than 13-feet and 6-inches high or 8-feet wide may not use the 1-895 Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. Vehicles more than 14-feet and 6-inches high or 11-feet wide may not use the I-95 Fort McHenry Tunnel.

Those vehicles should use the western portion of I-695 instead.

Best Carnival cruise ships: Here’s which ship you should sail, based on your travel style

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

Choosing a Carnival cruise ship is no simple task, especially if you’re new to cruising. As one of the largest cruise brands in the world, Carnival Cruise Line has more than two dozen vessels in its fleet, offering everything from megaship adventures to smaller-ship experiences. Many variables — price, embarkation dates, travel companions, ship size and amenities, and destination — can shape the way you make your choice.

So, what is the best Carnival cruise ship? Here are my picks for the top options in several categories.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG’s cruise newsletter .

Mardi Gras: Best Carnival cruise ship for families

The best Carnival cruise ship for kids is undoubtedly Mardi Gras . Not only is it one of Carnival’s newest vessels, but it’s also one of the largest, and it has tons of activities to keep families with children busy.

At the expansive kids club, daily programming includes scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and video games. The club draws in young cruisers and gives them space to make friends and play with peers. Beyond the dedicated kids facilities, the ship has a massive arcade and many top-deck diversions. One of these is the Ultimate Playground — a space encompassing a ropes course, waterslides and Bolt, the first-ever roller coaster at sea . (Note that the arcade and Bolt cost extra.)

Related: The 5 best cruise lines for families

Mardi Gras is full of fantastic family-friendly dining, including the line’s Dr. Seuss-themed Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast (for a small fee). The ship also includes pizza, soft-serve ice cream, Shaq’s fried chicken and Guy Fieri burgers in its fares. Even the pickiest of eaters will be satisfied. Kids can order off special menus in the complimentary main dining rooms and join in their waiters’ rollicking dance performances just when they start to get antsy sitting still.

The ship also does a nice job of accommodating families of all sizes and budgets. Many of Mardi Gras’ standard cabins sleep at least four people, and the ship offers connecting cabins.

Its Family Harbor staterooms provide access to a special family lounge area with TVs, sitting areas and internet stations. Breakfast is offered there each morning, and snacks and drinks — including free soda — are provided throughout the day. So, you never have to go far when the kids need a snack. Cabins in the Family Harbor category feature a nautical theme, plenty of storage and space to sleep at least four people.

Mardi Gras’ new sister ship, Carnival Celebration, is also a fantastic option in this category, offering a nearly identical experience (with just a few changes in the names and themes of specific venues).

Carnival Horizon: Best ship for luxury lovers

Let’s be clear: Carnival is not a luxury cruise line, nor does it offer huge suites on most ships. The suites it has are smaller than most other brands’ high-end accommodations, and they do not include amenities like butler service.

With that in mind, one ship that offers slightly more exclusive options is Carnival Horizon — the second vessel in Carnival’s three-ship Vista class. It offers a top-deck, adults-only Serenity sun deck area; an extensive menu of spa treatments, salon services and fitness classes at the onboard Cloud 9 Spa; and a handful of upmarket cabin offerings.

If you’re into wellness, relaxation and self-care, check out the spa and fitness center’s manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, teeth whitening treatments, acupuncture, anti-wrinkle procedures, state-of-the-art cycling classes, thermal suite, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms for a fee. For digs that include pampering, try a Cloud 9 Spa cabin to receive extras like complimentary thermal suite access and two free yoga or Pilates classes.

Related: The 8 best cruise lines for elegance and exclusivity

If exclusive stateroom enclaves are what you seek, you’ll want to book one of the ship’s Havana Cabana cabins. They come in several varieties, from 185-square-foot insides to Havana Suites, which offer 260 square feet of interior space (with a dividing wall to separate sleeping and living areas), plus a 100-square-foot patio area with loungers and a hammock. All Havana Cabana cruisers get access to an exclusive lanai and pool deck. With a suite booking, you’ll also receive priority embarkation and disembarkation.

If a traditional suite is more your style, consider a Grand Suite, which includes priority embarkation, disembarkation and dining times, as well as access to the Havana pool area. Note, however, that Grand Suites run only 345 square feet with 85-square-foot balconies — disappointing when you consider some of Royal Caribbean’s largest rooms are nearly five times that size.

The only ships on which you’ll find larger accommodations are the line’s newest: Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee, all of which house Presidential Suites. Those accommodations offer 1,120 square feet of space with 600-square-foot balconies and separate living and sleeping areas. However, the ships — part of the line’s Excel Class — are so large and attract so many families that I’ve ruled them out as the most luxurious.

Carnival Conquest: Best ship for budget travelers

If you’re on a budget and simply looking for one of the cheapest Carnival cruise ships, a solid bet is Carnival Conquest. It offers Bahamas and Caribbean voyages of three to five nights. Think of it this way: The shorter the cruise , the less expensive it will be.

Plus, it sails from Miami, one of the world’s largest cruise hubs. More ships leaving from a specific port means more competition, which can drive prices lower.

Related: The 8 classes of Carnival ships, explained

Carnival Conquest is one of the line’s oldest ships, but it’s also a ton of fun. Because short sailings tend to attract a more lively crowd, passengers can expect lots of dancing, socializing and late nights at Henri’s Dance Club. During the day, passengers enjoy spending time around the pool and grabbing free burgers from Guy’s Burger Joint.

It’s also one of the few vessels left in the fleet that still features jaw-dropping interiors designed by renowned architect Joe Farcus, who made Carnival synonymous with quirky patterns, bright colors and neon lights.

At the time of publication, prices started from $47 per person, per night, for an inside cabin.

Carnival Sunrise: Best Carnival cruise ship for singles

Unfortunately, Carnival has been slow to adopt solo cabins, meaning that no ships in its fleet offer accommodations for one.

Because all staterooms are designed for double occupancy, it’s generally a rule that a person traveling alone must pay both fares. This means they would pay twice as much per person as two people sharing a room.

Related: The best cruise ships for solo travelers

In order to make the single supplement as affordable as possible, solo Carnival cruisers will want to balance finding an inexpensive vessel with choosing one that sails short itineraries. They’ll also probably want one that’s a bit livelier (read: not the oldest in the fleet).

A great contender for the title of best Carnival ship for singles is Carnival Sunrise. Formerly Carnival Triumph, the ship was completely gutted, overhauled and renamed in 2019. Although it originally debuted in 1999, it feels fresh and nearly new. It offers the line’s signature Serenity adults-only sun deck, RedFrog Pub, Alchemy Bar and a slew of lounges, nightclubs and daily activities.

Combine that with short, affordable voyages from Miami, and you can sail to the Bahamas or Caribbean for four or five nights from as little as $104 per night if you’re solo. Short sailings also tend to draw a more fun-loving, social crowd. So, if your goal is to mingle and potentially meet other solo cruisers, you stand a good chance on Carnival Sunrise.

Carnival Pride: Best ship for retirees

Retired travelers have all the time in the world to take longer cruises, which generally allow them to visit more far-flung locales. Those trips can come with a substantial price tag, which is why, as a budget option, Carnival is such a great choice.

In particular, Carnival Pride’s voyages consist of nine- and 12-night itineraries to the Baltic, British Isles and Iceland on a regular cadence. Longer voyages mean more time to explore but also fewer children and less of a frat party vibe. (Take note if you’re thinking of bringing your grandkids.)

Related: The 7 best cruises for seniors who love to travel

Carnival Pride is one of the oldest ships sailing for Carnival. That actually works in its favor if you’re a retiree who enjoys smaller ships and vintage design — in this case, more artwork and decor by Farcus.

In addition to a comedy club and an onboard spa, the ship also offers an adults-only sun deck, several bars and lounges, and plenty of dining options and daily activities to stave off boredom on longer voyages.

Bottom line

So, which Carnival cruise ship is the best? It all depends on your specific preferences. Whether you’re searching for an inexpensive vacation, a family-friendly vessel or a ship that will take you on a longer voyage to Europe, there’s a Carnival cruise to fit your taste and budget.
