Tom Cruise with British Transport Police officers at Birmingham New Street station

Tom Cruise’s car stolen while filming in Birmingham

Mission: Impossible star’s belongings reportedly missing from his BMW X7 when recovered in Smethwick

The Hollywood actor Tom Cruise’s BMW was stolen while he was filming in Birmingham .

The BMW X7 had been used to ferry around the star, who has been in the city filming scenes for the seventh instalment in the Mission: Impossible series.

The vehicle was taken in Church Street in the city centre from where it was parked outside the Grand Hotel, where Cruise has been staying, as first reported in the Sun .

The SUV is thought to have been carrying some of the actor’s luggage and belongings, reportedly worth thousands of pounds, when it was taken.

The car was recovered “a short time later” in Smethwick, about three miles away, according to police, but the contents were reportedly missing.

The 59-year-old has been causing a stir in the Midlands all week, and has been seen wearing a dark suit and sunglasses in Birmingham’s Grand Central shopping centre, which had been transformed to look like an Abu Dhabi airport for filming.

Cruise could be seen recording scenes in front of a row of shops above New Street station’s main concourse, where crowds had gathered to catch a glimpse of the film star.

British Transport Police in Birmingham also tweeted a picture of two officers with the masked movie star, with the message: “I promise you, this isn’t Photoshopped.”

Cruise was pictured outside one of the city’s Indian restaurants last weekend. According to the restaurant Asha’s Instagram page, he enjoyed his chicken tikka masala so much that he ordered the curry for a second time after he had finished his first serving.

The actor also posed for photos with a family in the village of Baginton, in Warwickshire, after they gave his helicopter permission to land in their garden, after the temporary closure of nearby Coventry airport.

Filming on Mission: Impossible 7 has been taking place around the UK.

In April pictures emerged of a train track set up at a quarry in Derbyshire said to be attached to the film. Cruise has also filmed action scenes on top of a moving mock steam locomotive in North Yorkshire.

He is reprising his role as Ethan Hunt in the latest instalment of the blockbuster action film series.

A West Midlands police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a BMW X7 stolen from Church Street, Birmingham in the early hours of Tuesday morning (24 August).

“The car was recovered a short time later in Smethwick. CCTV inquiries have been made in the area that the car was recovered from. Inquiries are ongoing.”

Birmingham Police are on a mission after a car used to ferry Hollywood star Tom Cruise was stolen on Tuesday and the actor's belongings, "worth thousands of pounds", are still missing.

According to The Sun , which first reported the incident, thieves used a scanner to clone the signal from the BMW X7's keyless ignition fob after it was parked outside the Grand Hotel, where Cruise is reportedly staying as he filmed the latest movie in the Mission: Impossible series. While the car, which belonged to Cruise's bodyguard, was recovered "a short time later", the contents are still missing.

“Tom had been driven around in the car while in Birmingham and some of his luggage and belongings were inside it when it was taken. It’s since been recovered by police because it was equipped with an electronic tracking device but everything inside it had gone," a source told The Sun .

"We received a report of a BMW X7 stolen from Church Street, Birmingham," a West Midlands Police representative confirmed, but did not reveal the identity of the owner. "The car was recovered a short time later. Inquiries are ongoing."

The British Transport Police in Birmingham tweeted a photo of the star on Tuesday.

"I promise you, this isn’t photoshopped," they posted.

Cruise, 59, is in Britain filming the seventh instalment of the Mission: Impossible series. According to The Sun , Birmingham's railway station was transformed to portray Abu Dhabi International Airport for filming.

The star has caused a stir in the Midlands since his arrival. On Saturday, he was spotted at Indian restaurant Asha's, owned by famous Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle. The restaurant, which also has branches in the UAE, posted pictures of Cruise along with their staff on Sunday.

"It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Tom Cruise to Asha's Birmingham yesterday evening. Tom ordered our famous Chicken Tikka Masala and enjoyed it so much that as soon as he had finished, he ordered it all over again – the greatest compliment," the restaurant's post said.

Bhosle also shared her delight at the star's visit, tweeting: "I was very happy to hear that Mr. Tom Cruise enjoyed his fine dining experience at Asha's (Birmingham) and I look forward to him visiting us again soon."

The seventh Mission: Impossible was one of the first films to shut down production because of coronavirus when it abandoned filming in Venice, in February 2020. Production resumed in September, with filming in Italy, Norway, London and Abu Dhabi .

In February, Cruise and his team finished filming scenes in the UAE capital . Not much is known about shoot but they were spotted at Louvre Abu Dhabi. Impressively enough, the entire cast and crew also maintained being Covid-free during their time in the emirate.

Abu Dhabi's film and TV commissioner Hans Fraikin, explained during a panel discussion as part of the Culture Summit Abu Dhabi , how that was possible.

Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell film 'Mission Impossible 7' in Rome last November. Paramount Pictures

“We devised a protocol where we divided the team into five bubble zones. So these five zones could never interact. They also stayed in five different hotels. And the staff of those hotels could not leave their bubble either," he said.

More importantly, Fraikin said – unlike a few other productions that shot in the emirate but were used as other locations in films – the scenes shot in Abu Dhabi will be fully represented in the film.

“Abu Dhabi would be part of the storyline,” he said. “I can’t say where it was filmed but when the film releases around the world, audiences will be astounded by what they see.”

Paramount Pictures has also pushed back the release of Mission: Impossible 7 , which is now expected to come out in May 2022.

According to the Sun , the car was stolen from outside the Grand Hotel in Birmingham and was later found abandoned in Smethwick. While the BMW may be safe, it reportedly held thousands of pounds worth of luggage and other personal items, which have yet to be recovered.

At the moment, Tom Cruise is filming the seventh Mission Impossible movie, alongside co-stars Haley Atwell and Simon Pegg. As you may already know, the Mission Impossible franchise has been partnered with BMW for around a decade now. During filming, Cruise was using a BMW X7 to get around England, an X7 that was just recently stolen.

The X7 was allegedly stolen while outside the Grand Hotel and it allegedly had thousands of dollars worth of goods inside. Admittedly, Cruise’s BMW X7 was recovered not long after it was reported stolen. Its theft was recorded by CCTV and was found shortly after. However, it’s still ironic that his BMW was stolen, considering he’s using it while playing a spy who often steals other things in a movie.

tom cruise car stolen birmingham

Currently, Cruise, Atwell, and the rest of the crew are shooting in Birmingham, partly in Grand Central Shopping Centre. The film is the seventh in the Mission Impossible franchise and fourth with a partnership with BMW. We don’t know all of the BMWs that will be used in the film but there are usually several Bavarian appearances in each one. The most recent, Mission Impossibe: Fallot, even featured a classic Bimmer, an E28 5 Series, which was driven by Cruise himself and put through a grueling car chase that even featured a reverse J-turn down a flight of stairs.

Cruise has been all around England filming this latest Mission Impossible film. Even offering to take a local family for a ride in the helicopter he was flying for the movie. We can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out. Not only because it will feature some cool Bimmers but also because the last couple of MI movies have been great fun.

Tom Cruise’s BMW stolen in Birmingham while Mission: Impossible star was filming

TOM CRUISE’S BMW was stolen while the Hollywood A-lister was filming in Birmingham.

The X7 had been used to ferry around the star, who has been in the British city recording scenes for the seventh instalment in the Mission: Impossible series.

The vehicle was taken in Church Street in the city centre from where it was parked outside the Grand Hotel, where Cruise has been staying, as first reported in The Sun.

The powerful SUV is thought to have been carrying some of the Top Gun star’s luggage and belongings, worth thousands of pounds, when it was taken.

The car was recovered “a short time later” in Smethwick about three miles away according to police, but the contents were reportedly missing.

The 59-year-old has been causing a stir in the Midlands all week, and has been seen wearing a dark suit and sunglasses in Birmingham’s Grand Central shopping centre, which had been transformed to look like a Abu Dhabi airport for filming.

He was also pictured outside one of the city’s curry houses, last weekend. According to restaurant Asha’s Instagram page, he enjoyed his chicken tikka masala so much that he ordered the curry for a second time after he had finished his first serving.

The actor also posed for photos with a family in the village of Baginton, Warwickshire, after they gave his helicopter permission to land in their garden, following the temporary closure of nearby Coventry Airport.

Filming on Mission: Impossible 7 has been taking place around the UK.

In April, pictures emerged of a train track set up at a quarry in Derbyshire, said to be attached to the film. Cruise has also filmed action scenes on top of a moving mock steam locomotive in North Yorkshire.

He is reprising his role as Ethan Hunt in the latest instalment of the blockbuster action film series.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We received a report of a BMW X7 stolen from Church Street, Birmingham in the early hours of Tuesday morning (August 24).

“The car was recovered a short time later in Smethwick.

“CCTV inquiries have been made in the area that the car was recovered from.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

Someone Stole Tom Cruise's BMW During Mission: Impossible 7 Shoot

The hunt is on for a missing BMW that belongs to Tom Cruise. Inquiries continue.

Just days after news that a train was crashed in a planned stunt on the set of Mission: Impossible 7 , another vehicle involved with a star of the film has rolled off set as well. This time Tom Cruise's BMW-X7 has been stolen. Fortunately, there was no high speed chase and no one was hurt.

Shortly after the incident occurred, Cruise's BMW-X7 was found. The vehicle was stolen off of Church Street. Authorities recovered the vehicle, abandoned, near Smethwick. Right now a lot isn't known about the incident.

What we do know is that the vehicle was taken from outside the Grand Hotel. The BMW reportedly had thousands of pounds (currency and not weight) worth of goods inside it. Authorities are examining CCTV footage in the area to see if they can see the who's, how's, and what's of the incident.

The local shopping center was closed for a few days for filming to resume. Birmingham has been abuzz since the film icon arrived for production of the movie and tons of people have flocked to get a glimpses of Tom Cruise as well as co-star Hayley Atwell. While in town for filming, Cruise stopped in at the Indian restaurant Asha's and took photos with officers from the British Transport Police. Officers shared a photo of them posing with Cruise announcing the photo was not photo shopped. Not to be outdone, The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Muhammad Afzal, swung by to get his photo taken with Cruise and Atwell.

Crashing trains and cars being stolen are not the only oddities happening during filming on Mission: Impossible 7 . Cruise also landed his helicopter in a local family's garden. There appears to be no shortage of shenninangans going on near Birmingham and around the set itself while filming is taking place.

Tom Cruise is not alone in having his vehicle taken. Earlier this year, Ludacris, Christopher Bridges, had his Mercedes Benz S63 stolen while he was attempting to get cash from an ATM in Atlanta. Much like for Cruise, the rapper's story does end happily. Police were able to track down the luxury car, as well as other items that were inside it at the time the crime was committed. In a similar fashion, singer, rapper, and producer Akon, Aliaune Damala, had his car stolen at a Buckheads service station in Atlanta. The Range Rover was located using a tracking app on Akon's phone. The car was recovered along with items such as Luis Vuitton bag, as well as a diamond necklace valued at around $25,000.

Mission: Impossible 7 has about 9 months until the film is scheduled for release, so a lot of other things could happen between now and then. When filming an action movie , it's probably best to keep the action relegated to the screen and set. We can only hope cars stop disappearing and movie stars keep their helicopters out of innocent family gardens. Mission: Impossible hits theaters May 27th, 2022.

Tom Cruise's Car Was Stolen During Filming Of Mission: Impossible 7

While filming Mission: Impossible 7, lead star Tom Cruise found himself taking on the unexpected mission of getting his stolen car back.

The misadventures never seem to end for Ethan Hunt, and it appears the same could be said for the man who portrays him. Aside from IMF agent Ethan Hunt's duties, Tom Cruise had to deal with another mission while filming Mission: Impossible 7 : getting his car back.

Cruise, who has been in the UK shooting his insane Mission: Impossible 7 stunts , had his 2021 BMW X7 broken into and stolen, along with the thousands of pounds worth of luggage that was inside the vehicle. According to The Sun, the robbers reportedly cloned the car's digital key, "using a scanner to capture and clone the signal from the keyless car’s ignition fob — and then trick the car into thinking the key was within range." Mission: Impossible 7 was recently filming in Birmingham at the city's Grand Central Station.

The car has since been recovered by police, but the valuable equipment inside the vehicle is still missing. A source told The Sun the incident was a huge embarrassment for the security team. Reportedly, the head bodyguard for Cruise's security team is believed to have found the car missing from its parking spot early Wednesday, the 25th of August. The robbers were able to steal the all-black car in minutes after intercepting the fob signal while the vehicle was parked outside the Grand Hotel, which is a short walk from the police headquarters. Cruise has reportedly been commuting to set by helicopter from the mansion he's been staying at during production on Mission: Impossible 7 .

It has become an easier process for thieves to steal cars that use keyless entry. According to The Sun, "Thieves capture signals by getting the target car to emit a message to the keyless fob." With someone else standing near the car, they can then capture the signal that tricks the car thinking it is in range, which allows the doors to unlock.

This minor setback is one of a few that has occurred on the Mission: Impossible 7 set . In addition to the numerous delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the viral clip involving Cruise blasting crew members for not following safety protocols and the controversy with the Swiss government regarding the use of a historic railway bridge to perform a stunt have both received much attention from the public. But director Christopher McQuarrie and the rest of the cast and crew have persevered, hoping to make the best film in the franchise.

Starring alongside Cruise's Ethan Hunt will be Hayley Atwell as Grace , Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Oscar nominee Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mistopolis, Esai Morales as the film's main antagonist, and Cary Elwes and Pom Klementieff in undisclosed roles.

Mission: Impossible 7 is set to premiere on May 27, 2022, and will be available for streaming on Paramount Plus 45 days after its initial release.

Actor Tom Cruise was in for a rude shock during the filming of his successful action franchise Mission: Impossible 7 when he was informed that his car was stolen. The Hollywood superstar's BMW was stolen along with luggage worth several thousands of pounds present inside it. The luxury car, a BMW X7, was reportedly stolen from outside Birmingham's Grand Hotel, while the actor was shooting for the film. Though the car has since been recovered, the incident left the actor angered when he heard about it. The theft came to light when the actor's bodyguard noticed that the vehicle had disappeared from its parking space on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old was described to be “hopping mad” after he was informed about the crime. According to a report by The Sun , the criminals made away with the car using a scanner to clone the signal from the luxury car's keyless ignition fob. The vehicle was parked outside a Birmingham hotel at the time of theft.

Quoting an unnamed source, the British tabloid said that Mr Cruise had been driven around in the car while he was in Birmingham due to which some of his luggage and belongings were inside the vehicle at the time of theft.

The source added that the police were able to recover the vehicle because it was equipped with an electronic tracking device. However, Mr Cruise's belongings that were present inside were stolen and have not been recovered yet. “It's a huge embarrassment for the security team and the guy who had been driving it was hopping mad — but not as mad as Tom,” the source said.

As per reports, the actor was earlier spotted shooting scenes for the film with actress Hayley Atwell at a Birmingham shopping centre. Parts of the mall were shut from Sunday to Wednesday to allow the shooting to take place, BBC reported. Pictures of the actor visiting an Indian restaurant owned by singer Asha Bhonsle also went viral on social media recently.

With the pandemic already having played spoilsport and halted shooting schedules of the film previously, we hope Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible 7 team have smooth sailing for the remainder of their schedule.

Brazen thieves who stole a £100k BMW from Tom Cruise's security as he filmed in Birmingham have never been caught, police confirmed. The crooks behind the high-tech theft are still on the loose.

The A-lister had been filming scenes for Mission: Impossible 7 when the car he was being driven around in was snatched on Tuesday, August 24 last year. At the time, the Top Gun star was staying at the city's Grand Hotel to record scenes at the nearby Grand Central shopping centre.

Inside the BMW X7, the actor reportedly had thousands of pounds worth of luggage. West Midlands Police previously said it had launched an investigation into the early hours incident, with CCTV being examined.

The car was recovered in Smethwick a short time later, but the luggage was reportedly never located. And now, 12 months on, the force has yet to make any arrests or bring those responsible to justice.

A spokesperson said the probe would continue if new evidence or information was reported. A latest statement from the police read: "Our investigation will continue if any new information or evidence comes to light."

The actor was said to be "hopping mad" when he learned the vehicle had been whisked away within minutes from Church Street. A source told The Sun at the time: “Tom had been driven around in the car while in Birmingham and some of his luggage and belongings were inside it when it was taken."

A source added that the car had been "equipped with an electronic tracking device" but that Tom's luggage had disappeared.

Local event presenter Phil Oldershaw bumped into Hollywood star Tom Cruise as he walked his dog Dylan in Birmingham City Centre

A statement for West Midlands Police back in 2021 read: "We received a report of a BMW X7 stolen from Church Street, Birmingham in the early hours of Tuesday morning (24 August). The car was recovered a short time later in Smethwick.

"CCTV enquiries have been made in the area that the car was recovered from. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to get in touch via Live Chat quoting crime reference number 20/1700819/21."

After the incident, readers took to social media to comment their frustration on seeing criminals marring the city's good name. Amanda Jevons had said: "I feel embarrassed and ashamed.

"Is this all we want people to remember from visiting our country?" Mark Smith added: "Tom cruise comes to Birmingham. Potential of thousands of pounds in revenue and further film contracts because of this. And we welcome him by stealing his car and luggage. Way to go Birmingham!"
