Grey’s anatomy seattle tour – all the tv scene locations.

If you’re a self-proclaimed couch potato like myself, and have spent a SICK amount of your life watching all 14 15 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy… You’ve come to the right post!

Oh Grey’s Anatomy… I have such a love/hate relationship with you. I hate you more than ANYTHING when you kill off every character I’ve ever loved, yet. Here we are, still tuning in every Thursday night.

I traveled to Seattle and got to see all of the famous scenes of Grey’s Anatomy come to life. This Grey’s Anatomy Seattle Tour is easily doable in a 3 day weekend, covering all the most notable stops… cue Grey’s Anatomy theme song.

Psssst… I created a 3 day Seattle Itinerary, which includes all of these stops! You can check it out here: 3 Day Weekend in Seattle!

Grey’s Anatomy Seattle Tour Stops

Grey’s anatomy ferry in seattle.

What better way to kick off this Grey’s anatomy tour than the famous Ferry ride across Puget Sound! They film hundreds of scenes throughout the series of the cast on the ferry with the notorious Seattle Skyline in the background.

You can take an $8 ferry ride across the Puget Sound to Bainbridge island ! The ferry ride is only a quick 35 minute ride and you can reenact the famous scenes of Meredith Grey looking off into the distance. Plus, hanging out at Bainbridge Island for the day doesn’t suck!

To buy a ferry ticket, you will need to look up times in advance and purchase a ticket at the ferry stand before getting on. They rarely sell out, so I don’t think it’s necessary to purchase one in advance. Click here for the daily ferry times .

You can easily spend hours wandering Bainbridge Island, spending time on their walking and hiking trails or in their adorable downtown area. The downtown area of Bainbridge is filled with wine bars and trendy restaurants to try out.

Do you like wine tasting? I like wine tasting sooo much that I dedicated an entire section of my blog to boozy travel… See exhibit A , B , & C 🙂

Kerry Park in Grey’s Anatomy

Kerry Park is only a 15 minute drive outside of downtown Seattle and you get another priceless view of the Seattle skyline! A lot of scenes, especially from their newest, 15th season, is filmed here.

This park can get crowded, especially at sunset, but the park is long and narrow. You can easily get a photo without anyone in the background.

I loved this spot the most because not only do you get to see a famous Grey’s Anatomy filming location in Seattle, but you also get to see the best view of the Seattle skyline!

Grey’s Anatomy Intern House in Seattle

Meredith Grey’s “Intern House” where they continue to live throughout all the seasons, is located just a five minute walk from Kerry Park. Nestled in the Queen Anne Neighborhood at 303 W Comstock St , you can walk on the same door step as Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, Derek Shepherd, Izzie Stevens, Cristina Yang & George O’Malley!

Please make sure you are respectful of the house because it is private property. You can easily snap a couple of pictures from the street or bottom of the steps!

Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle

Recognize that helicopter pad!?

The famous helicopter / rooftop scenes are filmed on KOMO plaza at 140 4th Ave N . Would you believe this isn’t even a real hospital? Komo Plaza is a shopping center located directly next to the Space Needle.

If you plan on seeing the Space Needle on your trip to Seattle, pay attention on the short 14 second elevator ride to the top. During the glass elevator ride to the top, the employee escorting you up will point out the helicopter pad!

Even though you won’t be able to see the front of Grey Sloan Memorial in Seattle, the rooftop is spot on. Most of the scenes from inside the hospital are filmed in Los Angeles on set.. #rude

Best Time to Travel to Seattle

Since most of these sites are outside, I think it’s important to mention the best time to go to Seattle! While it’s known to rain like, 90% of the year…. that’s  the charm of going! When I went, I had sunny weather on 2/3 of the days, and I actually wished it was gloomier! Just make sure you bring a little travel-sized umbrella to fit in your purse when you are exploring the city!

I traveled to Seattle in the fall (end of September) and it was magical! All the leaves were beginning to change colors and fall and the crowds were minimal. If you branch out of the city to see the coast, Olympic National Park or hike some waterfalls, I would plan to go in the summer when the weather is at its warmest.

Where to stay in Seattle

If you want the full Grey’s Anatomy experience, you can book an Airbnb right in Meredith Grey’s neighborhood! If you search Kerry Park as the location, you will find a lot of houses and apartments you can stay at. Here’s an example !

Hey , is it your first time using Airbnb?! Click here for $40 off your first stay !

What to Pack for Seattle

Other than my  10 travel essentials I can’t live without , these are my top 3 recommendations for a trip to Seattle:

1.  Travel size umbrella

It’s no secret that it rains a lot in Seattle! It is green for a reason! I bring a travel size umbrella on ALL my trips because it’s so small and fits in my over-the-shoulder purse if I need it. I got mine on amazon for extremely inexpensive and comes in a ton of different colors.  Click here for the umbrella I bought !

2.  Light Rain coat

It rains almost year round in Seattle, so regardless of the season you travel in, I would bring a light rain coat/wind breaker with you that you can easily throw over whatever outfit you’re in. I live in the desert where it NEVER rains, so I bought the least expensive one I could find.  Click here for the rain coat I bought !

3.  Rain boots

Rain boots are something I didn’t bring but regretted I didn’t. There is a lot of walking in any big city, especially if you are staying in the downtown area. You will want shoes that are waterproof and dry quickly.  Click here for an affordable pair of rain boots !

I hope you had as much fun as I did exploring all the famous scenes I’ve watched over the past 15 years! Not only is this city an amazing place to wander around, a lot of these sites will be very close to other famous sites. I have a full guide on spending a three day weekend in Seattle that covers all of these spots and much more, you can read it here !

Did I miss any stops on my Grey’s Anatomy tour in Seattle? Let me know in the comments below so I can check them out on my next trip to Seattle!

Pop Culture

All of the must-visit Seattle destinations for Grey’s Anatomy fans

By Aubree West

Published on Jan 09, 2024

Yes, the hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is still airing on ABC and season 20 is on the horizon. While the focus of the show is Meredith Grey and the doctors working at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital – be prepared for breakups, makeups and scandals – all the drama is set against the picturesque (and sometimes rainy) backdrop of Seattle .

Seattle has been a dazzling setting for so many movies and TV shows but Shonda Rhimes’ hit show (she’s also the producer of Bridgerton !) has brought even more pop culture love to the Emerald City. Even though the majority of filming takes place inside the hospital (AKA a studio in LA), the show also features scenes and exterior shots of Seattle to give it authenticity.

The Grey ’s fandom is real and alive, even though they’re always killing off our fave characters, so, when you are done bingeing all 360+ hours of the show and are ready to ditch the screen and see the charming city IRL, here are all the Grey’s Anatomy filming locations in Seattle you have to visit…

8. KOMO Plaza

The KOMO Plaza, previously known as Fisher Plaza, encompasses two buildings adjacent to Seattle’s iconic Space Needle, and has played home to the ‘Seattle Grace Hospital’, now ‘Grey Sloan Memorial’ since 2004. In reality it’s a data centre, but for Grey’s Anatomy it serves as the exterior of the hospital – the helipad on top of this building is often used in establishing shots!

7. Kerry Park

The Grey’s Anatomy cast and crew have been spotted numerous times filming at Kerry Park. It’s no secret that the park offers one of the most picture-perfect views of downtown Seattle, Mount Rainer, Elliott Bay, Bainbridge Island, and the Space Needle. It’s kind of the place to be if you’re ever in the area… Fans will recognize it from their TV screen right away. If you’re visiting on a clear day, grab a coffee and stay awhile to catch the stunning sunset at this beautiful Grey’s Anatomy filming location.

Feeling inspired?

6. take a ferry ride.

Not so much a Grey’s Anatomy filming location, and more an experience, you can’t visit Seattle and not catch a ferry ride! This is a great way of seeing the city from the water and admiring the skyline. You can take different routes which will each offer different views: some of downtown Seattle, others of nature-filled inlets and wildlife. The rides are under 45 minutes as well, just enough time to live like a local and enjoy another cup of coffee. If nothing else, do it for our ferry-lover McSteamy #RIP.

5. The waterfront

Walk along the Seattle waterfront to see the famed Pike Place Market, eat clam chowder at Ivar’s, head inside the Seattle Aquarium, or walk down to the ferry pier. This classic Grey’s Anatomy filming location will transport you to one of the most intense scenes of the entire show, where Meredith almost drowned in the middle of a rescue mission. Obviously, you’ll be making more positive memories while visiting the Emerald City and a walk along the waterfront is perfect any time of year.

8 best travel TV shows that will give you serious wanderlust

4. fremont bridge.

Cross the iconic drawbridge that connects two of Seattle’s coolest neighbourhoods: Fremont and Queen Anne, and take a walk in Meredith’s shoes through her stomping grounds. While you’re in the area, make sure to stop by and say hi to the Fremont troll.

The cement troll is an 18ft tall public sculpture and resides under the Aurora Bride. The troll is the result of an art competition back in the 1980s, when artists were called to rehabilitate the area, which was becoming a dumping ground. The winning team of sculptors created the troll, inspired by the story, Billy Goat’s Gruff .

3. The Space Needle

Grey’s fans are sure to recognize the iconic Seattle landmark from all of the posters and city skyline views throughout the series. In fact, even non- Grey’s fans will recognise this skyscraper as it’s incredibly famous! It’s a must-visit Grey’s Anatomy filming location, so be sure to plan a ride to the top. A visit to the observation tower will take your trip to the next level and beyond.

2. Poo Poo Point

Venture a bit outside of the city to Poo Poo Point and you’ll find yourself in one of the best MerDer (Meredith & Derek’s ship name) moments… yes the iconic ‘Candle House’ scene where Meredith builds their dream house out of candles. I’m not crying, you’re crying. A hike up to Poo Poo Point is absolutely breathtaking, on clear days you can see Mount Rainier to the South and from the North you’ll get an expansive view of the entire Seattle Metro area.

1. The intern house

And last but not least, you die-hard fans have to head to the infamous Intern House located at 303 W Comstock Street to get the ultimate Grey’s Anatomy IG pic. It’s one of the most iconic Grey’s Anatomy filming locations. Across the seasons, almost all of the interns at the hospital lived in this house. The real house was built in 1905, located on Queen Anne Hill, and is now worth over $1.8 million.

Remember the house does have residents, so be sure to stay on the sidewalk and after you’re done visiting stay and explore the neighbourhood. You’ll find cool and quirky cafes, shops, and restaurants, plus if you walk to the top of the hill expect amazing sweeping views of Seattle.

The Grey's Anatomy Guide to Seattle — For True Superfans Only!

Updated on 8/19/2018 at 6:25 PM

visit seattle grey's anatomy

Chances are, if you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy , at one point you also considered a trip to Seattle . I've got you covered. While there may be no official tour for Grey's fans, here is a guide for must-see sites to save, from photo-ops at exact filming sites to locations inspired by scenes from the drama (because, unfortunately, Joe's Bar does not exist). When you're ready, go beyond the screen and book your next trip to experience this iconic city in real life!

Visit the Intern House

Although Meredith's house is located at 613 Harper Lane in the show, you'll want to follow directions for 303 W Comstock Street in the Queen Anne Hill Neighborhood to find the Intern House. From the house, take a short walk to Kerry Park, or indulge in a scoop of honey lavender ice cream from Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream!

Take a Ride Up the Space Needle

Take a Ride Up the Space Needle

Grey's fans will probably recognize the Space Needle from the posters. Plan a trip to the top of this established symbol of Seattle ! Also, take advantage of the prime location and visit other attractions around the Seattle Center, including the Chihuly Glass & Garden Exhibit or Museum of Pop Culture. If you're looking to do a little shopping, hop on the Seattle Center Monorail to Westlake Center and enjoy the outdoor shopping experience in Downtown Seattle.

See Why Derek Has a Thing For Ferry Boats

Curious as to why Derek owns a scrub cap with ferry boats on it? So am I, but riding one seems like the best way to pay tribute to McDreamy. If you're looking to experience a city tour on land and water, Ride the Ducks of Seattle. Another option would be to travel on a traditional ferry across the Puget Sound to Bainbridge Island for a relaxing day trip.

Walk Along the Pier

The Pier may be the location to one of the most intense scenes in Season 3, but it is also where Derek showcases his endless love for Meredith (cue the tears). Whether you're indulging in an independent trip or sharing the adventure with a friend or significant other, a ride on the Seattle Great Wheel will surely be memorable. Take your time on the pier and explore the Seattle Aquarium while also stopping by Ivar's Seafood Bar for some clam chowder. Looking for a more intimate location? Hit up The Pink Door for refreshing drinks, fresh seafood, and a stunning view of the waterfront.

Explore the Area Around the Waterfront

Slip on your walking shoes and tour Pike Place Market, a quintessential stop in Seattle where you can pick up the most amazing arrangement of flowers or watch fish fly from one stall to another. While the hospital may be a 24-hour hustle, the busy streets of Pike Place offers a more lighthearted energy. Don't forget to poke your head in Post Alley and leave your mark on the infamous Gum Wall!

Stand in Filming Sites From the Show

Though the majority of filming is done in Los Angeles, the show does manage to film a couple of scenes at Seattle locations like Gasworks Park, the Fremont Bridge, and the waterfront. Ever wanted to step into the mind of Meredith? Take a walk from the Intern House to the hilltop of Kerry Park (another filming location) and enjoy the view of the skyline spanning from Mt. Rainier to the Puget Sound. If you're lucky enough to visit on a clear day, catch the sunset and watch the city light up in front of your eyes.

Hit Up Joe's Bar

Sadly, Joe's Bar will remain a fictional location, but if you still want to say you've been, there are two options. Joe Bar is a cozy café offering a perfect spot to enjoy coffee and brunch in Capitol Hill and Joe's Bar & Grill is a neighborhood bar located in the International District of Seattle.

Savor a Drink at These Establishments

Enjoying a drink seems to be a pastime of choice for the characters, and Seattle offers some great places to spend at night. Let's start with one of the more famous bars in Seattle, Canon, which holds the largest spirit collection in America. Creativity is certainly a key element here when it comes to drinks! Another can't miss spot is Navy Strength, a tiki bar recently awarded the Best New American Bar of 2018. Finally, if you're in the mood for a good, old neighborhood bar like Joe's Bar, check out Linda's Tavern on East Pine Street.

Treat Yourself With Seattle Cuisine

Seattle's food scene is no joke! Starting off with local favorites, check out Paseo Caribbean Food and Ezell's Famous Chicken. If fast food isn't your thing, homemade pasta at Il Corvo, modern Vietnamese cuisine at Stateside, and expert grilling at Ciudad are all a must. Vegan? Try Plum Bistro or Café Flora!

Get Inspired by the Show to Live Healthier

Every doctor need a little time for R & R . Blessed as the Evergreen State, Washington offers plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy during the warmer months. Try hiking up Rattlesnake Ledge, a four-mile round-trip offering a brilliant view, or Mount Si, one of the most popular trails in Washington. Around the University of Washington, you can also rent a kayak at the Waterfront Activities Center (WAC) and paddle around Union Bay.

Grab a Cup of Coffee

Is there an episode where a coffee cup isn't seen? Whether it's for a boost of energy, or just a habitual drink, this Seattle staple is worth exploring. Luckily, as visitors, you'll have a little more time to sit down and enjoy your coffee in the city. While there is the Original Starbucks located on Pike Street, I suggest taking a photo and then moving on to enjoy local coffee shops like Victrola Coffee Roasters or Seattle Coffee Works. For a unique twist, Caffè Umbria offers traditional Italian coffee combined with a peaceful ambiance.

Finish With These Personal Favorites of Mine

I can't miss the opportunity to share some of my favorite spots in Washington! For a caffeine fix, Espresso Vivace Sidewalk Bar is a fun and convenient café to stop by in Capitol Hill. If you're on the lookout for brunch, check out Oddfellows Café & Bar or Portage Bay Cafe (French toast highly recommended). End the day with Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery — need I say more? Another great sweet spot is Frankie & Jo's, which offers a fully plant-based menu of heavenly ice cream flavors. Beyond food, check out the Seattle Public Library for one-of-a-kind architecture or visit Discovery Park to escape the crowds for a bit. I also can't stress how interesting Pike Place Market is, especially if you spend time walking into all the unique small-owner operated stores. It's where I don't mind acting like a tourist in my own city!

The Grey’s Anatomy Guide to Seattle

Shonda Rhimes’s hit show Grey’s Anatomy helped put Seattle on the pop-culture map. And while most of the scenes from Grey’s Anatomy are filmed in an L.A. studio, there are a few can’t-miss landmarks that any die-hard fan should pencil into their Emerald City itinerary. We hope this list inspires you to quit your Netflix marathon, and experience Seattle for yourself.

Check Out “The Intern House”

Hoping to see Meredith Grey, Izzie Stevens or Arizona Robbins pop out of the intern house on their way to work? Head to 303 West Comstock Street in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle to admire their 1905-built, $1.3 million, four bedroom home.

Catch a Seattle Sunset

Most episodes of the show include stock footage of Seattle’s skyline, taken from a hill in Kerry Park. It’s a great spot to take in a sunset, or quietly reflect on why Shonda Rhimes insists on killing off or removing all of your favorite characters.

Take a Ferry Ride

“We’re just going to take a day and ride the ferry boat all day if we want. I love you, Meredith.” Pay your respects to the late Derek Shepherd, and his last message to Meredith before his death, by grabbing a ferry to Bainbridge Island, and soaking in gorgeous, sweeping views of Puget Sound. It’s okay to cry.

Or just go to the ferry pier

See where Meredith famously half-drowned in the midst of a rescue mission after one of Seattle’s ferries crashed at the pier.

Gas Works Park

Seattle Grey’s fans were abuzz this summer when the crew was spotted at Gas Works park shooting scenes. Enjoy a picnic on the park’s large man-made hill, or play a game of hide-and-go-seek around the park’s famous industrial ruins.

Grey’s Anatomy Filming Location Details

Varun Patel of Grey’s Anatomy Filming Location Details

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is the epitome of medical dramas in our times. The series has been running for sixteen seasons and that is enough proof regarding its popularity. Like every medical show, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ largely takes place in a hospital.

The show revolves around multiple medical professionals at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (formerly the Seattle Grace Hospital) as they are faced with literally life-changing conflicts on a regular basis, thanks to their profession. Apart from that the series also takes a look at the characters’ personal lives and how that intertwines with their professional career.

Grey’s Anatomy Filming Locations

Many fans might be wondering where ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is filmed. The show is set in Seattle and many viewers might be pondering over its actual filming location. Does the show film on-location in Seattle? Or is it filmed elsewhere and passed off as being set in Seattle? Where is the actual Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital?

Los Angeles, California

Sadly, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is not actually filmed in Seattle. The show, like most television productions has been filmed in the state of California . However, the show’s makers do not completely cheat viewers with their depiction of Seattle. A few establishing shots have been actually filmed in Seattle but more on that later.

Most of the filming for ‘ Grey’s Anatomy’ takes place at the Prospect Studios in Los Feliz, near Hollywood, California. The production takes over as many as six soundstages to film the show. To be honest, the show does require that kind of spacious facility as it is set in a hospital, which is obviously supposed to be quite huge with multiple rooms. The stages cover everything from the reception area, operation rooms and hallways where a majority of the series’ action takes place.

visit seattle grey's anatomy

However, that is not all. Some portions of the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital are also filmed out of the studio. The show utilizes parts of the Veterans Administration Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center on 1611 Plummer Street in North Hills, California.

The southern side of the Veterans Administrative Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center is made use of to film the establishing shots of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Moreover, the north side of the building is where the show’s characters are typically filmed while entering or exiting the hospital. The characters are often seen congregating on this side of the entrance as well.

Apart from that, the show also utilizes another actual location within California to film a recurring place on the show which is supposed to be located in Seattle. This is none other than the Emerald City Bar. The actual place where scenes in the bar are filmed is located on 72 N. Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena. It was formerly McMurphy’s Restaurant & Tavern. However, the location was used only till the second season. The show used to film in the downstairs area of the place, but a replica set was built later.

Additionally, a few scenes in the fourth episode of the show’s seventh season were filmed at Fire Station 23 on 225 E 5 th Street in Los Angeles, California. Moreover, Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California was used to film Dr. Bailey and Dr. Warren’s wedding. According to a twitter user, the show also filmed a few scenes at the Los Angeles Theater Center.

https://twitter.com/JOHNNYSDLA/status/370345269839134720

Seattle, Washington

While ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is quite evidently set in Seattle, a large chunk of the filming does not actually happen in Seattle. However, the series has filmed a few scenes in the city to lend a feeling of authenticity. Most of the times, filming is carried out without the actors’ presence for the sake of convenience and the series sticks to filming only establishing shots in the city.

#TBT 2 years ago today — some of @GreysABC cast was in Seattle filming season 14, and Justin Chambers, Jason George, Jesse Williams & Kevin McKidd were invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a @Mariners game. ⚾🧢 #ThrowbackThursday #GreysAnatomy pic.twitter.com/PRZ0DUye9m — JustinChambersOnline (@JChambersOnline) July 25, 2019

For instance, the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital’s helipad is actually filmed on top of the KOMO plaza on 140 4 th Ave N in Seattle. Moreover, the exterior of Meredith Grey’s house is also filmed at an actual place in Seattle. The actual house is located on 303 W. Comstock Street.

Furthermore, the Warren G. Magnuson Park has also appeared on the show a few times while Pier 57 has appeared once.

Grey’s Anatomy Seattle Tour – Top Fan Destinations

Grey's Anatomy Seattle Tour

If you’re embarking on a Grey’s Anatomy Seattle tour as a fan visiting the Emerald City, you’ll undoubtedly want to delve into the locations that have become famous in the TV series. Over its 18 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy has enthralled audiences with its dramatic narratives, love stories, betrayals, and even a portrayal of the recent pandemic. As you trace the footsteps of the beloved characters like Meredith in this iconic series, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the true star of the show: the enchanting city of Seattle.

Grey’s Anatomy Seattle Tour

Let me guide you through the iconic locations featured in Grey’s Anatomy:

Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital

Grey's Anatomy Seattle Tour

The hospital where much of the show’s action takes place has an exterior recognizable to fans. It’s actually Fisher Plaza or KOMO Plaza in Seattle, which is a location where helicopters land. However, it’s important to note that it’s the home of a television station, not a functioning hospital.

Meredith’s House (Intern House)

Grey's Anatomy Seattle Tour

Meredith Grey’s house, also known as the Intern House, is located at 303 W Comstock Street . While you may want to visit, please remember it’s a private residence, so don’t linger, take selfies, or disturb the actual residents.

Waterfront and Ferris Wheel

Grey's Anatomy Seattle Tour

Don’t miss the recently rebuilt Waterfront area, featuring a grand Ferris wheel. From here, you can also catch a Seattle Ferry, much like the one beloved by former protagonist Derek Shepherd. These ferries can take you to various locations across the bay, offering stunning views of the city skyline.

Grey's Anatomy Seattle Tour

Kerry Park is another iconic location featured in the show. It offers a splendid view of the city and the famous Space Needle. It’s a great spot to take in the breathtaking scenery .

Poo Poo Point

Grey's Anatomy Seattle Tour

This location requires a short drive out of the city. Poo Poo Point is popular among paragliding enthusiasts and is famous for the scene of Meredith and Derek’s dream house surrounded by lit candles. It’s a picturesque hill where you can relax and even enjoy a picnic.

Of course, your visit to Seattle shouldn’t be limited to Grey’s Anatomy Seattle tour. Be sure to explore other attractions such as Pike Place Market with its lively fish and flower markets, the Seattle monorail, and the iconic Space Needle, which offers a futuristic, retro-style experience in flying saucers – a symbol of the city’s mid-20th-century heritage.

For more information about Seattle and to plan your visit, you can check out “Seattle, one day itinerary in the Emerald City.” You can easily translate it using Google Translate since it’s in Italian. About Seattle

Seattle is located in the United States, specifically in the Pacific Northwest region of the country. It is the largest city in the state of Washington and is known for its picturesque setting along the shores of Puget Sound, surrounded by mountains, including the Cascade Range to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the west.

A grey’s anatomy tour of seattle.

seattle waterfront, grey's anatomy tour, things to do in seattle

I once confessed that I might love Grey’s Anatomy more than my boyfriend . Hey, I’ve been watching it since I was 16 (I’m 26)! Even when plotlines prove that Grey’s doesn’t love me back I still can’t move on. It’s a truly dysfunctional relationship – and not just because I’ve anthropomorphized a television show.

With that said, Grey’s Anatomy has made Seattle a character in and of itself. Though it’s mostly filmed in a Los Angeles studio lot (and using some stock footage from Toronto !), it wouldn’t be Grey’s without the city.

There aren’t any companies offering tours, so here’s how you can take a Grey’s Anatomy tour of Seattle on your own (or with your person!):

Visit the “Intern House”

The cast of Grey’s does travel out to Seattle to film exterior shots that give the show its authenticity. The exterior of the home that accommodated everyone from Izzie Stevens to Arizona Robbins is in Seattle’s historic Queen Anne Hill neighbourhood . Built in 1905, the “intern house” is worth $1.3 million – pretty good digs for interns!

Admire the Seattle Skyline

In almost every episode, there is some stock footage of the Seattle skyline. To get this view, head up to Kerry Park in Lower Queen Anne. Admire Elliott Bay, the Space Needle, and Seattle’s cityscape backdrop. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a clear day, you can catch a glimpse of Mount Rainier.

Take a Ferry Boat Ride (Spoiler Alert)

Skip ahead if you haven’t seen the end of Season 11

Ferryboat scrub caps are the essence of McDreamy, and it was painful to learn that Derek took his last ferryboat ride just before his tragic death. If you want to pay your respects to the MerDer love affair, take a ferry over to Bainbridge Island and let the wind blow through your gorgeous flowing hair. The island is a great place to enjoy the outdoors by hiking, biking, or walking. Stop in at the local farmers’ market or just enjoy the fabulous view of Seattle from across the bay.

Drink at “Joe’s Bar”

Joe’s Bar, the happy hour hangout for Grey Sloan Memorial staff, isn’t really in Seattle. With some research, I discovered that doctors and nurses sip pints in Capitol Hill . Check out the Smith, a great gastropub with cocktails on tap. Plus, it’s right next to the Group Health Capitol Hill Campus hospital – maybe you’ll get your happily ever after with “just a guy in a bar”!

See the Grey Sloan Memorial Atrium

The long glass atrium of Grey Sloan Memorial is a fan favourite: It’s where a crazed gunman shot Derek and where Meredith and Cristina have heart-to-hearts. The interior scenes are actually filmed in Northridge, California, but the dramatic external shots of the hospital are actually the Seattle-Tacoma Airport .

A lot of Grey’s Anatomy is Hollywood smoke and mirrors, but some of it is a true reflection of the city. If you’re ready to jump on a plane (or maybe take a bus – nothing bad has happened on a bus yet, right?) to the Emerald City, check out Booking.com  and Hipmunk for hotels in Seattle starting at $116 per night! Don’t forget to check out Airbnb — maybe you can find a house just like Meredith’s! Sign up for a new account with this link and get $50 off your first trip over $95!

I am thankful for your tips. The view of the ocean I think is a favorite for me. Being in Colorado with dry land all around I was in need of a Mer moment. Just look out and find your self again. Your advice was a blessing for a true Grey’s fan!

So… is there a tour guide or do you go on your own. Also where is the link for this tour?

I’m a great fan of GA, too. I would go to UW for studying for a month, and I really want to enjoy the view shown in GA in Seattle. It is so lucky of me to find such a great traveling experience on the Internet and it is also lucky of me to find another person who is also crazy about GA. LOL

Great entry, thanks! 🙂 This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find before my first-ever trip to Seattle next week. Thank you so much! 😀

Love love love this. I can totally relate to the love, I’m 23 and have been watching since I was 16. Binging on this show basically got me thru my parents divorce. HA, anyways my husband and I are traveling down the West Coast in two months but starting in Seattle and me being the fan I am, I am tickled. Thanks for sharing these gems.

I’ve been searching, but I can’t figure it out. Which hospital is the right one?

Visiting Seattle as a Grey’s Anatomy fan can do

If you visit seattle and you are a fan of grey’s anatomy you must necessarily visit the places that made the tv series famous in its 18th season, between love, betrayal and recently also going through the pandemic, while fans continue to follow the events of the stainless protagonists..

See the source image

In addition to Meredith, always in splendid shape despite 18 seasons , the hidden protagonist of the series is certainly the emerald city, the splendid Seattle.

I’ll take you by the hand to the most iconic places in the series.

Let’s start with the hospital. For the exterior of the hospital in Gray’s Anatomy something of Seattle is recognizable and it is the Fisher Plaza or KOMO Plaza in Seattle, where helicopters usually land, which is actually the home of a television station.

Unmarked the first point we head towards Meredith’s house, the Intern House, which is located at 303 W Comstock Street. Beware that it is a private house, do not stop for hours to take selfies or to bother the real inhabitants.

Certainly you had planned it, but if not, you cannot miss the recently rebuilt Waterfront, with the grandiose Ferris wheel. From here you can also see getting on one of the Seattle Ferry Boats so dear to former protagonist Derek Sheperd . Ferries take you to many places across the bay and I highly recommend that you get on at least one, to enjoy the sea and the view of the city skyline from a privileged point.

You can take great pictures .. but be careful not to shake them too much, given the sway of the ship.

Another place you may have seen in the TV Movie is Kerry Park, from where you can also enjoy a splendid view of the city and the Space Needle.

To reach the last point of this trip in search of the iconic places of Gray’s Anatomy, you have to get into a car and go out of town to reach Poo Poo Point. Usually the place is popular with paragliding enthusiasts, but the place is famous for the scene of Meredith and Derek’s dream house, all made of lighted candles.

A splendid hill on which you can relax and maybe have a nice picnic.

Obviously the visit to Seattle is not limited to this, you certainly cannot miss the Pike Place Market with the fish and flower market, the Seattle monorail, but above all the icon of this city, the Space Needle, for a ride in the future of retro-style flying saucers , heritage of the second half of the 20th century.

To know more about Seattle you can read “ Seattle, one day itinerary in the Emerald city ” , which you can easily translate with Google because it is in Italian. There are lots of news, curiosities and a fantastic map of all the places, including those of Grey’s Anatomy

You have probably heard of Seattle Grace Hospital from the medical drama series, Grey’s Anatomy . You know, the famous workplace of McDreamy, McSteamy, and all of the other hotshot surgeons of the fictional dream team.

What many people don’t know is that Seattle Grace Hospital was once a real-world medical center in Seattle, Washington that opened in 1886. For a few decades, Seattle Grace was a 40-bed, two-story hospital. However, it was demolished in 1905.

Now, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but now is the time. To many fan’s dismay, Seattle Grace Hospital (later to be known as Seattle Grace Mercy West then Grey Sloan Memorial) is just a fictional hospital. Merely smoke and mirrors of Hollywood magic. But, that’s not to say you can’t head to Seattle and embrace the fact that “it’s a beautiful day to save lives.”

Indeed, there were scenes filmed in real-life locations! For example, the iconic Space Needle. Also, Meredith Grey’s home ( located in Queen Anne ), the Ferry Landing, and KOMO Plaza were used for a few shots of the beloved series. Take a look at our top 5 Airbnb rentals that will help you finally live out your medical dream. All listings are under $150 per night.

Dr. Meredith Grey says farewell to Seattle and 'Grey's Anatomy' as a series regular

Sarah Handel

After 19 seasons, Dr. Meredith Grey of ABC's hit drama Grey's Anatomy says goodbye as a series regular.

MARY LOUISE KELLY, HOST:

Last night Dr. Meredith Grey said goodbye to Seattle and Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

(SOUNDBITE OF TV SHOW, "GREY'S ANATOMY")

ELLEN POMPEO: (As Meredith Grey) So the end of my story is not any kind of ever after because I'm still alive. I'm still here. And the sun still rises on my life.

ARI SHAPIRO, HOST:

Dr. Grey, played by actress Ellen Pompeo, will be stepping back from ABC's hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" after 19 seasons and more than 400 episodes. Pompeo's character is leaving for Boston. Pompeo herself will stay on as an executive producer.

KELLY: Back in December, Pompeo had told Drew Barrymore she was ready to do something new.

(SOUNDBITE OF TV SHOW, "THE DREW BARRYMORE SHOW")

POMPEO: I feel super-happy.

DREW BARRYMORE: Really?

POMPEO: Yeah.

POMPEO: But listen. The show has been incredible to me. And I love - I've loved a lot of the experience. Listen. It's just - I got to - you know, I got to mix it up a little bit.

SHAPIRO: Grey will be remembered for her many close calls with death, her deep friendships and her enduring romance with Dr. Derek Shepherd.

POMPEO: (As Meredith Grey) Derek, I love you in a really, really big, pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window, unfortunate way that makes me hate you love you. So pick me. Choose me. Love me.

KELLY: Ah, McDreamy. Well, her last episode as the show's lead came to an understated conclusion. There were no epic montages, no flashbacks, no guest appearances from former cast members, not even a refrain from "Chasing Cars."

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "CHASING CARS")

FLEURIE: (Singing) We'll do it all.

SHAPIRO: There was, however, a celebration at the hospital where the show's last two original characters paid tribute to Dr. Grey. Here's Dr. Miranda Bailey and Dr. Richard Webber.

CHANDRA WILSON: (As Miranda Bailey) Once upon a time, you were the bane of my existence. But, no, you grew up to become one of my greatest points of pride. OK. Go. Go.

JAMES PICKENS: (As Richard Webber) Dr. Grey, what Dr. Bailey's trying to say is this place won't be the same without you.

KELLY: We will still hear her character narrate episodes, as she's done for many of them, and she could visit every now and then. But for many "Grey's Anatomy" fans, the show just won't be the same without Meredith.

(SOUNDBITE OF PSAPP SONG, "COSY IN THE ROCKET")

Is Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19 new tonight on ABC, April 11, 2024?

Grey's Anatomy April 11, 2024

Grey's Anatomy season 20

Is  Grey’s Anatomy  new tonight on ABC? What can we also say about Station 19? We’ve had a nice run over the last month or so — why not keep it going?

Without further ado now, let’s just go ahead and start by sharing some of the good news: You will be seeing the show back, and sooner rather than later. The plan is for both of these episodes to air starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, and it’s our hope that there are some big revelations. We do recognize already that the  Station 19  promo suggested that Ben Warren is in danger — yet, that in alone makes us think that he would be okay. Why make us so worried otherwise?

Before we go any further here, let’s just set the stage by sharing the synopses for  both  of these upcoming episodes…

Grey’s Anatomy season 20 episode 5, “Never Felt So Alone” – It’s all hands on deck at Grey Sloan when a group of medical students is injured by a floor collapsing at their white coat party. Jo and Link are forced to talk about the future, while Jules confronts Winston about his attitude.

Station 19 season 7 episode 5, “My Way” – Andy Herrera earns her captain’s stripes as she fearlessly leads her team during a life-or-death emergency at Seattle’s most beloved landmark. Vic struggles with emotional burnout, and Maya helps Carina navigate some difficult news.

One more thing to celebrate here

The next new episode of  Station 19  is going to be the 100th for the show. Isn’t that a cause for great jubilation? Sure, we are still very-much upset with the idea that this is the final season, but there are so few shows that make it to the 100th episode milestone these days; it is notable whenever it does end up happening.

Screen Rant

Grey’s anatomy season 20 just teased the show’s next great couple.

Grey's Anatomy season 20, episode 4 might have marked the return of Arizona, but it's Amelia Shepherd's latest potential romance that is most notable.

Spoilers are ahead for Grey's Anatomy season 20, episode 4.

  • Amelia & Monica engage in a tense, enemies-to-lovers dynamic in Grey's Anatomy season 20.
  • Kai and Amelia's otherwise-solid relationship ended with differing views on kids, leaving Amelia open to a new pairing.
  • Amelia may benefit from a casual romance as she juggles co-parenting with groundbreaking research.

Like so many other surgeons in Grey's Anatomy , Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) has struggled with long-term romantic relationships, but season 20, episode 4 of the series hints at an exciting romance between Amelia and one of the new doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial. On the spin-off Private Practice , Amelia and her ex weathered the loss of a child together, but ultimately split. Unable to work things out with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and hesitant to marry her co-parent Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack), Amelia finally found a relationship that clicked with Kai Bartley (E.R. Fightmaster).

When Amelia first guest stars on Grey's Anatomy , it's clear her older brother and fellow neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) has some reservations about Amelia's ability to commit to anything — or anyone — in a long-term way. From navigating substance-use disorder (SUD) and the resulting trauma to surviving a life-threatening brain tumor, Amelia weathers more than her fair share of difficult moments. Even so, Amelia Shepherd struggles to find a partner who wants the same future (or present) as she does, leaving her romantic prospects rather up in the air.

Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Gives Amelia & Monica The Perfect Enemies-To-Lovers Setup

Amelia & monica are at odds in episode 4.

Introduced in Grey's Anatomy season 20 , Monica Beltran (Natalie Morales) is one of Grey Sloan's newest attendings . The accomplished pediatric surgeon knows she's at the top of her field and isn't afraid to show it. This causes something of a personality clash between Monica the equally confident Amelia. When the two meet on Monica's first day, Amelia takes the parking spot Dr. Beltran had been patiently eyeing. As fate would have it, the doctors are assigned to the same case. While Amelia wants to forge ahead with her plan, Monica tells her to reconsider what the pediatric patient's parent wants.

Although Amelia dismisses her, she can't miss Monica's compliment...

Taking a beat, Amelia finds a way to operate more safely, and Monica can't help but tell the neurosurgeon that she's " better " when she's more considerate. Over the course of the episode, Amelia and Monica have a slightly more at-ease report . When Monica overhears Amelia complaining about her nephew in episode 4, she offers the neurosurgeon a ride home. Although Amelia dismisses her, she can't miss Monica's compliment about it being hard for Amelia's intern nephew to live in her remarkable shadow. In just two episodes, Grey's Anatomy has set up an exciting slow-burn romance.

Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Just Brought Back What Made Season 1's Interns So Great

Amelia's relationship with kai was one of grey’s anatomy’s better lgbtq+ pairings, kai & amelia's breakup was a rough one.

A neurosurgeon who briefly worked with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) in Minnesota, Kai specializes in stem cell research. All of this eventually leads to Amelia and Kai becoming co-workers. Both doctors are equally passionate about their work: while Amelia is more of the hands-on type, Kai is dedicated to their research and lab work. The duo make a compelling, cerebral pair, and, soon enough, their workplace chemistry becomes a romantic one . At the start of their relationship, Amelia and Kai see each other every so often, but things change when Kai visits Seattle.

Amelia makes the situation all about herself...

At a party, Kai meets Amelia and Link's kid, Scout. Although they spend most of the day playing with the various Grey-Shepherd kids, Kai confesses that they don't see a future with children. While they and Amelia were long-distance, Scout didn't seem so real, but the visit shifted things. Although Kai and Amelia try to stay together, Amelia and Kai break up when Kai receives a London job offer. Instead of being supportive, Amelia makes the situation all about herself. Even so, the pair's chemistry and mature relationship touchstones make them one of Grey's Anatomy 's most well-written queer couples .

Grey’s Anatomy Theory Reveals The Only Way For Izzie & Karev To Return In Season 20

An amelia & monica relationship may not last into grey's anatomy season 21, natalie morales may not return for another outing.

Although Natalie Morales is a newcomer to the Grey's Anatomy cast, there's no assurance that she will stay on the show for any set length of time. While guest stars have evolved into reoccurring and even main cast members in the past, the soon-to-be 21-season show is a huge time commitment. Morales has guest acted in plenty of other beloved series , from Parks & Rec to Dead to Me , all while pursuing film-making projects, like her directorial debut, Plan B . However, since Alex Karev left Grey's Anatomy , there's been a substantial void in the peds department.

...that doesn't mean Morales will renew her contract.

While other characters have tried out the specialty, no one has made quite the impact as Karev (Justin Chambers) and his long-time mentor, Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw). It would make sense for Grey's Anatomy to find a replacement pediatric surgeon — one who sticks around for more than a handful of episodes. Still, that doesn't mean Morales will renew her contract going into Grey's Anatomy season 21 . With real-world logistics at play, it's hard to bank on a long-term romance between Monica Beltran and Amelia Shepherd.

Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Just Proved The Sad Truth About Meredith

Amelia's character could benefit from a more casual romance story, amelia shepherd has struggled with long-term romantic relationships.

Considering Amelia's track record with long-term relationships, an exciting fling or casual romance might be the best thing for the character. In season 19, Amelia deals with several blows: she and Kai break up, and her sister, Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), leaves town. Even Meredith seemed to be moving on from Grey Sloan. Some of that has shifted in season 20; Meredith has not only appeared pretty consistently, but Grey's Anatomy season 20, episode 4 , ended with Meredith and Amelia's joint Alzheimer's research receiving funding . Still, Amelia has expressed her loneliness — to Owen and her cat.

Amelia is juggling co-parenting and dating...

Clearly, Amelia has a lot going on in her professional life. The head of neuro at Grey Sloan, the accomplished surgeon isn't just completing groundbreaking surgeries, but adding her expertise to Meredith's landmark Alzheimer's research. In her personal life, she's juggling co-parenting and dating. That said, in order to reconnect with herself, assess what she wants (and needs), and find a new lease on life, it might be best that Amelia doesn't jump into a new long-term relationship . If Monica's future on Grey's Anatomy isn't a guarantee, the potential romance could at least be a lot of fun.

New episodes of Grey's Anatomy season 20 air Thursdays at 9pm ET/PT on CBS, and are available the next day on Hulu.

Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy is considered one of the great television shows of our time, winning several awards and four Emmys. The high-intensity medical drama follows Meredith Grey and the team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, who are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis. They seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.

'Station 19' stars reflect on the legacy of one of TV's most beloved lesbian romances

Stefania Stampinato as Carina DeLuca and Danielle Savre as Maya Bishop in Station 19.

Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato never expected that their characters, firefighter Maya Bishop and Dr. Carina DeLuca, would end up together on “Station 19.”

In the third season of ABC’s second “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, which follows the lives of a tight-knit group of firefighters at the Seattle Fire Department, Maya, then the captain of her firehouse, was at a crossroads in her personal life. A serial nonmonogamist afraid of commitment, she had just split with colleague Jack Gibson (Grey Damon) and was reluctant to jump into another relationship. One evening at the bar across from the fictional Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Carina offered to buy Maya a drink, wanting to hear the story of how the fire captain ended up carrying a severed nose in a plastic bag to the hospital.

Savre and Spampinato both said they felt an ineffable electricity during the initial read and filming of that scene — where it’s implied at the end that the characters spend the night together — and now consider it one of their all-time favorites. The actors both credit former showrunner Krista Vernoff for transforming what could have been another routine fling for Maya into one of the most beloved lesbian relationships on television.

“The initial natural chemistry was something that was undeniable and wasn’t something that you can put on or fake, even if you are a great actor,” Spampinato told NBC News in an exclusive joint interview with Savre. “That was a big component that we naturally had, and then I feel like we both love our job, love our characters, and wanted to portray a relationship that was believable.”

Maya Bishop and Carina DeLuca kiss in a scene from Station19

In retrospect, Savre and Spampinato said they couldn’t pinpoint a specific moment when they realized that fans had latched on to Maya and Carina’s relationship — which fans have lovingly dubbed “Marina” — but they noticed a clear shift while shooting the fourth season in 2020, when their social media accounts began to see a spike in engagement.

“I think because people were at home, they couldn’t get out, and they were watching a lot more TV, we went inside people’s houses in a way that was different than prior to the pandemic,” Spampinato said. “Maybe that was also why people connected to these characters so much.”

The cast and crew wrapped production on the third season just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, and they returned to work later that summer under strict testing guidelines. In an attempt to limit exposure to the virus, the writers decided to pair actors up for more one-on-one scenes and keep them in a bubble, which Savre and Spampinato said accelerated the development of Maya and Carina’s relationship. That is why Spampinato, who had spent three seasons as a recurring character on “Grey’s Anatomy,” joined the “Station 19” cast full time in the fourth season.

“I actually remember thinking, ‘There’s no way that they’re going to make me a serious regular on a firefighter show because I’m a doctor. It doesn’t make sense.’ And then a few months later, they were like, ‘OK, you’re officially on ‘Station 19,’” Spampinato recalled with a laugh. “It’s because the relationship was so successful that they were like, ‘Yeah, let’s make it keep going.’”

In five seasons, Savre and Spampinato have played out the full arc of Maya and Carina’s tumultuous relationship: They decided to get married in the fourth season, began discussing their plans to start a family in the fifth and tried unsuccessfully to get pregnant using in vitro fertilization in the sixth. After briefly separating until Maya got professional help to address her underlying mental health issues, Maya and Carina decided to adopt a baby boy named Liam at the start of the seventh and final season. (The landmark 100th episode airs Thursday.)

Wedding scene

For Savre and Spampinato, who both felt it was “definitely about time” for Maya and Carina to enter motherhood, this storyline has carried a special significance. Back in her native Italy, Spampinato said same-sex couples are not allowed to undergo IVF, and she has a lot of queer friends “who have found so much joy and fulfillment” in the experience of adopting children.

“I’ve been through IVF to donate my eggs before, so I think it’s so important to tell this storyline,” said Savre, who, unlike Spampinato, wants children of her own one day. “I think they’ve done a beautiful job of portraying the IVF process with Carina in the past and the emotional ups and downs that you go on.”

The kind of attention that comes with portraying one of the few lesbian couples on network television where both characters are part of the main ensemble has not been without its challenges. Over the years, some fans have conflated Maya and Carina with the actors who play them.

“When somebody is talented or is doing something that you like and admire, you tend to think that the artist is the person — and I think it’s very important to separate that,” Spampinato said.

Savre — who spoke publicly about her sexuality for the first time at a 2022 fan convention — said she and Spampinato have confided in and checked in with each other from time to time, especially when the rumor mill began to spin out of control about their real-life relationship.

“I remember Stefania and I were at our first convention, and we were like, ‘Guys, we are not dating. We care for each other, we support each other and we love doing scenes together, but we are not together,’” Savre said with a laugh. “The reason I love to do the conventions with the fans is because you get to meet these people that these characters had such an impact on, but they actually get to see you as a person instead of just the character.”

Maya is rushed to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital due to a medical emergency.

Since ABC announced in December that the seventh season of “Station 19” would be its last, some of those fans have launched an ardent campaign to save the show, with an online petition garnering over 85,000 signatures .

“The fans came out and were like, ‘We aren’t going anywhere,’ which is amazing,” Savre acknowledged, “and sadly I’m starting to get the feeling that ABC’s not going to save it, but I’m trying to hold out hope.”

Although they are both “grateful” that the writers were given enough notice to avoid leaving any cliffhangers in the seventh and final season, Savre and Spampinato said the cancellation came as a shock to them and their colleagues, who were already in the middle of shooting the season’s first episode and preparing for the second.

“It felt like an ice bucket in our faces,” Spampinato said.

The writers, who had already sketched out the season’s 10 episodes, had to pivot in a matter of days.

“They basically had eight episodes to wrap up these storylines, and I think they’re doing a brilliant job with what they were given,” Savre said.

In the case of Maya and Carina, that meant accelerating the timeline slightly to show their early experiences with motherhood, rather than prolonging their struggles to start a family.

“If this season wasn’t our final season, this would’ve played out differently. The writers told us it would’ve played out differently,” Savre said. “I know that we were drawing out these storylines, but there was a world where the payoff in the end would’ve been amazing — and I think this payoff is great, too.”

Spampinato added that the “writers are really trying so hard to fit in these 10 episodes everything we wish for, everything the audience wishes for, everything they wish for.”

“They’re trying to make everybody happy. I hope that comes through on the screen and people enjoy and appreciate it,” she said.

Savre, who was taking a break from shooting the series finale “in the wilderness” to complete this interview, teased that the characters don’t necessarily have “happy endings, but satisfying endings.”

“In reality, these characters will live on, so we’re not like, ‘They got everything they wanted at the end of the season.’ It’s more like we’re laying the groundwork for that,” she said. “These people are in a good place and their futures look bright, and that’s where we’ll leave the fans, who then can fill in the blanks themselves.”

But are the actors themselves happy with where their characters end up in the finale? “We’re just sad it’s ending, but given that, I think we’ll be happy,” Spampinato said, with Savre adding that she likes the fact that the ending is “not finite.”

Dr. Carina DeLuca and firefighter Maya Bishop adopt a baby boy, Liam, at the start of the seventh and final season of "Station 19."

The end of “Station 19,” however, does mean the closing of one of the most significant chapters of the actors’ lives. For Savre, whose real-life sister Stephanie works for the Los Angeles Fire Department , being able to represent the less than 5% of career firefighters who are women has been one of the greatest honors of her career.

“Representing a queer woman on television who went through ups and downs, who found love, who came from a rough childhood with an abusive father — I have been given so many amazing storylines to play in seven years that sometimes I’m in awe of what they’ve actually given me to portray,” Savre said. “Whether it was being a strong woman in a male-dominated industry, coming out to your parents, dealing with mental health issues, deciding if you want to have a child … I’ve been so grateful with every storyline and so scared to not screw it up, because I know how important the representation is for all of these things.”

Prior to joining the “Grey’s Anatomy” franchise, Spampinato said she felt she had been relegated to playing more one-dimensional characters who were used as nothing more than comedic relief. But on “Station 19,” she said, “what I’ve loved the most is the chance to play a character, aside from being Italian, that has a job, that falls in love, that has a family, that argues.” Given that Italy’s right-wing government is planning to roll back LGBTQ people’s rights, she added, it has been especially important to her to play an openly bisexual Italian woman.

The actors both said they will particularly miss the ease with which they’ve been able to build their on-screen relationship.

“A lot of times, actors don’t get along and butt heads, especially with love interests, and you’re like, ‘Oh, God, I have to make out with this person. I have to pretend.’ It’s never felt like that with Stefania ever — not once,” Savre said. “We care for each other. We support each other. I think we’ve been each other’s champions.”

While “Station 19” will be wrapping up its run in May, ABC recently renewed “Grey’s Anatomy” for a 21st season, extending its record as the longest-running prime-time medical drama of all time. Of all the characters on “Station 19,” Maya and Carina seem like two of the most likely to pop up on “Grey’s,” given that the latter still works at the fictional hospital.

Asked if either of them would be open to reprising their roles in the future, Savre and Spampinato agreed that if “Grey’s” showrunner Meg Marinis or Shonda Rhimes’ production company Shondaland came calling with an offer, they would both jump at the opportunity to return in any capacity.

“Of course we’re open to it. If we said, ‘No, there’s no chance, we’re never going to work together again,’ I feel like we’d get death threats,” Savre joked. “This is an industry that 100% is not in our control. But listen, if ABC or Shondaland came to us and was like, ‘We want a ‘Marina’ spinoff where you guys live on a boat and a marina ,’ we would be like, ‘Yes!’”

The final season of “Station 19” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. Episodes can also be streamed on Hulu.

Grey's Anatomy

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Paging Dr. Arizona Robbins!

Jessica Capshaw made her return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on Thursday night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Naturally, the case involved fetal medicine, which she’s still been pursuing and advancing since she moved to New York with her daughter Sofia to be closer to her ex Callie.

She teams up with Grey Sloan’s chief neurosurgeon Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) to essentially perform a miracle and, in the process, inject some faith back into the rest of the staff at the hospital after a series of trying cases. And, of course, she challenges a bit of authority along the way, reminding Bailey (Chandra Wilson) why she’s always been such a fantastic teacher in the first place.

Capshaw referred to the story as a “call back” to her introduction to Grey’s during Season 5 and, while it’s just a one-episode arc for now, she tells Deadline she’s still open for more — which is good news since the series was just renewed for Season 21 .

Read her interview below.

DEADLINE: How did this come across your radar and why did you decide now was the right time to return?

DEADLINE: Toward the end of the episode, Richard says something about how no matter how long he is away from the OR, it always comes back to him. Did you feel that way stepping onto those sets?

CAPSHAW: Funnily enough, it all just seemed right. When I came back… it was like every time I turned a corner and saw someone that I hadn’t seen in a while, the just like the joy and squeals and the screams and the laughter and the just the fun that came about was just exactly where we left off. So yes, absolutely. Stepping back into that character and putting on my scrubs was like I’ve done 1,000 times before.

DEADLINE: This is, of course, Arizona’s first time meeting this new interns. She’s obviously worked with previous iterations of Grey Sloan interns, but what was it like to step back into that mentorship role for them?

CAPSHAW: I have heard this was not a unique experience, but I am one of those if that you can point to who…I genuinely always feel new myself. I’m like, ‘What do you mean, they’re younger than me? What are you talking about? They’re younger? No way.’ Then they kind of do look at you like they’re younger. And then you kind of have a giggle. All of the interns are so dynamic, and they’re so great in their roles and eager and generous and kind on set to work with, but then on top of it, their community that they’ve created and the relationship that they have with each other — playing cards in between takes by the chairs or one of them’s like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna order out for food, anyone else want anything?’ — just a very generous and very cohesive spirit. It was so lovely. I really enjoyed spending time with them. I sort of felt like one of them because I was experiencing what they were, which was like, ‘Where are the teachers? What’s going on?’ At the same time, my character was like, ‘Where did your teacher go? You need some.’

DEADLINE: We didn’t hear too much about Arizona’s life back in New York. Did you talk to Meg about anything that’s been going on with her since we last saw her?

CAPSHAW: So I mean, let’s be real. Our personal lives that play out on the show is, I mean, it’s probably 50/50. Right? If not 60/40. You care more about what they’re doing outside the hospital than you do inside. That being said, it felt to me and I heard in a very pointed way, that the part that Meg really wanted to bring Arizona back to the show for this episode, really [for[ the lightness and the joy after for the people who love the show and take great solace in the show. They kind of got gypped this year. They’re only getting 10 episodes instead of 24. So, I think she just wanted to give it that jolt of joy and magical medicine. It seems like these episodes go by so quickly. I mean, they’re an hour long and everything else, but it goes by really quickly. I don’t know that you would have been able to really get to anything of importance in her personal life. If she’d stayed for more episodes, my guess is that you would be hearing more, but I think for this particular episode, it really was about her as a doctor.

DEADLINE: How open are you to coming back for more?

DEADLINE: We might not have heard about Sofia in this episode, but I do think that Arizona’s growth as a mom shines through in this episode. I can’t imagine Arizona before having a child handling this situation with the same level of empathy.

CAPSHAW: The poignancy of Vida’s character, having to trust so much and have faith in something that she couldn’t see when she lived a life of partial sight…Arizona was speaking about something she knows. There are so many times in her life as a mother with Sofia, literally from her birth, trying to have faith in medicine in general to save her daughter’s life. She was so worried about not being a legitimate parent which was a very unique circumstance, but then obviously, feeling like a legitimate parent and growing in that way, and then through the divorce, having to live through something so hard and uniquely challenging to fight to keep custody of a child. But then, knowing that the right thing for the child was to give up the custody to then change her life. I mean, yes, there’s a million different times in Arizona’s life that were about having faith in something she could not see. So yes, I think that when she says that to [Vida], she certainly isn’t selling her something that she hasn’t bought herself.

DEADLINE: I just have to say, it was so great to have Arizona back, even for one episode. She did bring that joy you were talking about.

CAPSHAW: Which, by the way, definitely felt a little bit like a call back to when the character first was introduced. That season was a little dark, when things had gotten a little more serious. People were already having near death experiences. I came in and was on wheels and challenging and having little snippets with Bailey and brushing up against everyone and pissing everybody off while wearing a big ol’ smile.

Grey’s Anatomy: Meredith Was Missing Derek After Son’s Medical Emergency, But Here’s Why I Think She And Nick Are Endgame

If we can't have McDreamy...

Ellen Pompeo on Grey's Anatomy.

Spoiler alert! This story discusses “Never Felt So Alone,” the April 11 episode of Grey’s Anatomy .

Ellen Pompeo made another appearance on Grey’s Anatomy ’s 20th season in the latest episode, but rather than focusing on her Alzheimer’s research, this time things got more personal. We got a solid glimpse at just how much Meredith Grey still misses Derek Shepherd when their son Bailey had a medical emergency. Despite Meredith getting annoyed with her boyfriend Nick Marsh (again) over how he handled things, I fully believe this couple is endgame, and “Never Felt So Alone” strengthened my argument.

Meredith, who was working on her research in Seattle on the April 11 episode, got caught off-guard when her daughter Zola informed her by text that Nick (Scott Speedman) had taken Bailey to the hospital in Boston with early signs of appendicitis. She was furious that Nick had neglected to inform her of that immediately (which is valid) and was able to charter Catherine Fox’s plane to rush home.

That’s when we were first clued into the reason for Meredith’s anxiety. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) tried to allay her fears by reminding her how routine an appendectomy is, and how most of the time mistakes don’t happen, to which she retorted:

And most of the time, people who need craniotomies get head CTs.

Like a punch straight to the gut, Meredith reminded us that what happened to McDreamy might have been prevented if the doctors in charge of his care had gotten a CT and realized the extent of his head injury. Derek came up again after Bailey's surgery when Meredith — who was still angry at Nick and asked him to leave — admitted to Richard when she misses her husband the most, saying:

I mean, of course I miss him. It’s just really only when the kids wake up in the middle of the night and I don’t have anyone to talk to.

I think every Grey’s Anatomy fan still stings a little over Patrick Dempsey’s Derek being killed off , but it’s just heartbreaking to hear Meredith say it. It also really gives context to her harsh reaction toward Nick. However, Richard pointed out that Meredith does, in fact, have someone to talk to about the kids, and Nick’s response to the situation is why I think he’s not going anywhere.

When Meredith finally went to talk to Nick about what happened, he didn’t let her off the hook, pointing out that he’d been staying with her children for two days while she was out of town, and the reason he hadn’t called her right away was because he was on the phone with the nanny to make sure the other two kids were taken care of. While I do agree Meredith still had every right to be upset, I definitely see his side of it, and Meredith has to know that if she’s trusting Nick to care for her kids, she has to actually trust him.

Nick also said he knows he’s not McDreamy . He will never be her children’s father, but he still loves them. Little Bailey even asked for Nick first thing when he woke up from the surgery. That’s a pretty telling sign.

Nick has put up with a lot from Meredith, but he is still there, still showing up for her kids and being patient as she continues to navigate her grief and allow herself to relinquish just the tiniest bit of control.

With five episodes remaining in Grey’s Anatomy ’s 20th season, I don’t know how much more Meredith we’ll get, but I’m certain that wherever she is, Nick Marsh will remain by her side. ABC’s medical drama is on a short hiatus, set to return at 9 p.m. ET Thursday, May 2. In the meantime, you can catch up on the best Grey’s Anatomy episodes , as every season can be streamed with a Hulu subscription , and the first 19 seasons are available with a Netflix subscription .
