Things to do in France

Road trip across the city.

With sights ranging from rich historical places, miles of crystal blue waterfronts, towering mountain ranges and world-famous vineyards – you would struggle to find a better place for a road trip than France. The capital city, Paris, is one of the top tourist destinations in Europe. Why not park in one of the car parks in the city centre, then visit the Louvre and take a stroll through Jardin de Tuileries down to Champs-Élysées? If you want to avoid central Paris traffic, why not drive your Enterprise rental car to the Versailles palace?

Culture and Natural Beauty of the North

The North of the country is filled with ports and is home to the Alabaster Coast – an 80-mile stretch of white cliffs in Normandy. The region is also home to ‘Omaha Beach’ in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer and other D-Day landing places. If you travel west, you can visit the region of Brittany, known for its unique language and culture. Visit Saint-Malo and see the walled Corsair pirate haven or take a trip to Rennes and see the medieval town full of half-timbered houses. If you find yourself near Nantes in Upper Brittany, take a trip through the Loire Valley and see the beautiful ‘châteaux’ scattered throughout the region.

Summer and  Winter Experiences in the Southern Province

The southern Provence and Côte d'Azur regions are filled with hilly vineyards, lavender fields, pristine beaches and marinas. A visit to the famous Saint-Tropez is necessary, right after strolling down the Promenade des Anglais in Nice . If you prefer snow and mountains, why not rent an SUV during your Alpine ski trip? The South-Eastern part of France is known for its ski slopes and villages like Val Thorens. With seemingly endless scenic rural roads throughout the country, France is an unforgettable driving experience no matter where you choose to stay.

Tips for Driving in France

When driving in france, there a few things to keep in mind:.

  • In mainland Europe you drive on the right hand side. Make sure you remember this on roundabouts and motorways! Always give way from the right.
  • Unless specified otherwise, speed limits on French roads in built-up areas are usually 50km/h, on rural roads you can travel at 80km/h, dual carriageways are mostly 110km/h and motorways are limited to 130km/h with a minimum speed of 80km/h.
  • During bad weather conditions, the speed limit on motorways is automatically reduced to 110km/h, so be aware of this in heavy rainfall, snow or fog.
  • Some routes on French motorways are subject to a toll. The charges for passenger cars is around €8/100km, but can be higher when travelling through toll bridges and tunnels. To find out more about tolls and planning your journey, visit the French motorway company website .
  • The orbital motorway known as “la Périphérique” surrounds Paris. It’s a four-lane road with a speed limit of 70km/h. Make sure you are cautious when driving on this road, as it’s known for becoming congested and can be stressful during peak hours.
  • If you drive in any of the Zone Circulation Restreinte (ZCR) cities in France, do not worry about the "Crit'Air" badges, as our rental cars meet the anti-pollution standards.
  • Our vehicles have all the mandatory equipment required by law in France. You will find a reflective top, a warning triangle, a breathalyser and a first aid kit inside the vehicle.
  • In emergencies, dial 112 to contact the police, ambulance or fire services.

Our fleet contains the latest vehicle models, meaning they are low emission zone (ZCR in France) compliant. You will not have to worry about the charge for polluting vehicles in French cities that have these fees.

Car & Van Hire in France

If you are after a country with varied climates, rich cuisine, wine, heaps of history and the world’s most romantic capital – France is the perfect place. It is Europe’s third largest country and the world’s eighth longest road network, with over a million kilometres of motorways and roads. Whether you are planning a road trip from Normandy to the Province, or you need a car to get around Paris quickly, experience France in an Enterprise rental car. You can find over 20 of our branches in Paris alone, but we also operate in the major cities such as Nantes , Montpellier or Lyon , and even the island of Corsica . If you are flying to France, you can rent a car from one of the Enterprise airport branches .

Car and Van Hire in Tours

Welcome to Enterprise Rent-A-Car Tours page where you will find a wide range of vehicles to choose from to fit exactly what you are looking for at great rates.

Car and Van rental in Tours

Tours is a city in the centre of western France, on the River Loire. It has a population of 135,000 and is home to the Francois Rabelais University, whose students contribute enormously to the social and cultural life of the city. Historically, Tours was part of the Roman Empire in the first century, and later a stopping-off point for the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. During World War I, a garrison was established in the city, which later during World War II was heavily bombed, with the loss of many historical buildings. Today, Tours is the tourist hub for the Loire Valley, with its many chateaus. It has an oceanic climate, with temperatures reaching the low 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer months. Unusually for this part of France, buildings in the traditional style are not topped with terracotta tiles; instead, white walls have roofs of blue slate. For details of Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, follow the link, Tours .

Our Vehicles for hire in Tours

With Enterprise, you have a great choice of vehicle. For fuel economy and getting around town, it's hard to beat a nippy hatchback. If you want an elevated driving position so that you can get a great view of the countryside you are driving through, then a sport SUV might be just the thing. Travelling with a large family or party of adults can be problematic on public transport, when everyone may have to separate for the journey. An MPV means you can travel together in style. Enterprise work hard to put all their vehicles through a regular maintenance schedule, also ensuring that their vehicles are clean both inside and out by the time they are collected. Check out Enterprise cars .

Cheap Car and Van Hire in Tours

Please don't be misled by the heading. By cheap, we only mean you get a great deal at a very competitive price. You are not just paying to hire a car; you also get Enterprise's first-class service, both on booking and in terms of backup. Browse the Enterprise website 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and book a car at a time that suits you. The best deals can be found online, although Enterprise agents are always happy to speak to you over the phone if you have any questions. You really won't get a better deal.

Airport Car Hire

Enterprise aspire to open an outlet at every airport in the world and already have many airports covered, including Tours. The convenience of alighting from your plane and going directly to collect your hire car has much to be said for it, especially when the nearest bus stop is a 10-minute walk away, as it is at Tours. No need either to worry about those often difficult, not to say expensive commutes between the airport and your destination – just collect the car keys and you can be on your way in no time. With Enterprise, you also know that the vehicle you booked will be ready for you, valeted inside and out.

Attractions in Tours

Tours is a historical city, so there is much to see. The medieval quarter or Le Vieux Tours is a great place to sit and take refreshment in one of the many cafes and bars that line the central square. Visit the Gothic cathedral dedicated to St. Gatien, and take a break in La Gloriette Park, which has its own free adventure playground. The Basilica of St. Martin of Tours dates from the 19th century, although it was built on the site of a much older church. The Basilica houses the tomb of its eponymous saint.

Places to Visit Outside Tours

Angers is just over an hour's drive from Tours. It was a bastion against Brittany during the Hundred Years' War. Today, it is a student city with a busy nightlife and some great restaurants along St Laud. The Prince Museum focuses on classical antiquity and there is also an Air Museum. Orleans, 77 miles from Tours, draws visitors due to the number of castles in its vicinity. This was home to Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orleans, and you can visit her house. Her feast takes place each May, with festivities that include a large medieval market.

Parking and Traffic Information in Tours

Drivers should do their research before driving in any foreign country. Capable, confident motorists should have no problems navigating Tours and its surrounding area, but they must observe both national and regional traffic regulations, and ignorance is not an excuse. When planning to drive in Tours itself, learning how the traffic flows, and where bus lanes, other restricted zones and one-way streets are is a must. It is always advisable to travel outside the peak rush hours. There are numerous car parks in Tours, although the underground Vinci Carpark between the railway station and the Halles Market is reputed to be the easiest to access.

Tours car rental information

Cheap car rentals in tours, kayak’s top tips for renting a car in tours.

  • Car rentals in Tours make perfect sense since public transportation isn't always available to take you to all the fascinating historic sites and charming corners of this French city or the Loire Valley spreading out beyond it. In Tours car rentals, you can get from one end of the city to the other, from the Loire River across Tours to the Cher River. In Tours car rentals, you can hit the open road and explore the countryside, and it's world-renowned chateaus, such Chateau de Chambord and Chateau de Blois to the northeast of the city.
  • Located less than a 10-minute drive from downtown Tours, the Tours Val de Loire Airport (TUF) makes an ideal location for securing car rentals in Tours. The rental car agencies at TUF are located in the parking lot opposite the terminal. The car agencies are open at odd and inconsistent hours - for instance, neither one is open on Sunday. So, when you make your reservation, confirm with the rental car representative that the agency will, in fact, be open when your plane arrives. Once you collect your car, it is a quick ride to your accommodation in Tours.
  • Driving in Tours gets congested around peak rush hour times, between 7 am and 9 am, and then again between 4 pm and 6 pm. If you want to drive around Tours, it is best to wait until after the morning rush has dissipated. Country roads outside of Tours heading through the Loire Valley tend to be uncongested, relaxing, and picturesque places to drive.
  • Some trouble spots to avoid while driving in Tours include the Boulevard Huerteloup and the streets around IKEA. Be advised that if you are driving around Tours and the Loire Valley in the months of July, August, and September, traffic can become heavier due to holiday traffic and farm machinery using the roads. When driving around the Loire Valley, it is beneficial to have a map, as GPS signals and information can be unreliable.
  • 25% of our users found rental cars in Tours for $48 or less

What's the speed limit in Tours?

For those driving car rentals and Tours, keep in mind that the speed limit is posted in kilometers, not miles. So, when you see the number on the posted speed sign, keep in mind that you should be driving more slowly than your instincts might tell you. On motorways in France, the speed limit is 130 km/h (80 mph). On dual carriageways, it is 110 km/h (68 mph). The roads within the city of Tours will mostly be 50 km/h (31 mph). Once you get outside the city, and you are on main roads stretching throughout the Loire Valley, the speed limit will be 80 km/h (49 mph). Also, in France, the legal speed limits lower during wet weather. The speed limit inside the city of Tours will remain at 50 km/h (31 mph), but the main roads outside the city will be 70 km/h (43 mph). The dual highways will be 100 km/h (62 mph) and the motorways will be 110 km/h (68 mph).

Where are the best places to park in Tours?

It is difficult to find free parking in the city of Tours, especially downtown. However, it is likely that you can find a public parking lot or parking garage that charges about €10 (about $11). However, when you park in an underground parking garage, drive carefully. The ramps between levels are narrow and tight, so, those driving Tours car rentals will need to negotiate the turns carefully so that you don't end up damaging your rental vehicle.

Car Rental Requirements in France

Minimum age.

In most countries, the minimum age required to hire a vehicle is 25.

Driver’s License

Each driver must present a full, valid and original national driver's license held for minimum of 2 years. If your license is not in a language used in your destination country, an International Driver's Permit to accompany your national driver's license is highly recommended. Some rental companies and government agencies require that you present an IDP. It is the renter's responsibility to present both their IDP and Driver's License when picking up the vehicle. For more information, please reach out to the Rental Company.

ID or Passport

Each driver must present a valid and original photo ID or passport.

International Credit Card

The renter must present a personal credit card, valid in the country of pick-up with enough funds to put a hold for a security deposit. Third-party credit cards will not be accepted. The car rental company is solely responsible for approving the provided credit card. Online prepayment does not exempt the renter from providing a valid international credit card during vehicle pick-up. The rental company will place a hold in the amount of the security deposit and, when applicable, any additional local fees not covered in the prepaid voucher on the card provided at the rental location.

Prepaid Booking Voucher

You must present a printout of the Booking Confirmation Voucher at the rental location. This document officially confirms all agreed upon services, payment conditions, rates, discounts, as well as vehicle availability within the group selected.

Important Information

Car rental companies reserve the right to refuse service to underage or unlicensed drivers, those with poor credit history or individuals otherwise considered liabilities by the rental company.

Enterprise Car Rental Locations in Paris

Paris is the ancient capital of France, located to the north of the country, on the river Seine. With landmarks such as the Louvre museum, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, Paris is one of the top tourist destinations for travelers in Europe and worldwide. It is also the biggest city in the European Union, containing more shops and attractions than could be listed. Enterprise Rent-A-Car provides car rental in Paris at over 20 separate locations. We operate eight branches in the main arrondissements alone, as well as dedicated car rental branches at the Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports. Enterprise outlets are also present on the outskirts of the city, such as at Versailles. Most of our branches are located close to the major Parisian roads of the Boulevard Périphérique and the E5 and N2 branch roads.  See our online map of our branches within Paris for more information .

Our Vehicles For Rent In Paris

Wherever you find us in Paris, Enterprise has a wide range of rental vehicles for you to pick from. We can offer you spacious cars with enough room to carry all of your luggage, ideal for families on a short trip to the capital. If you're moving larger groups of people or cargo across the city, Enterprise also offers SUVs, vans and people carriers for rent. Whatever your needs, we've got the right size and style of car to fit your trip.  Our online guide to our rental cars has more information .

Cheap Car And Van Rental In Paris

At Enterprise, we pride ourselves on being able to offer some of the best quality vehicles at excellent rental rates to our customers. All of our vehicles are modern, clean and give a superb driving experience. They're all rated to great fuel efficiency standards as well, saving you money. If you want to save further, you can also book online with us in advance. Our advance booking discounts give our customers the best chance to save money by planning their journeys in advance.

Airport Car Rental

In Paris, Enterprise operates branches at two separate locations near airports. We run branches at Paris-Orly Airport to the south, and at the main terminal of Charles de Gaulle Airport to the north. If you're arriving in Paris by air, we'll be able to get you on the road quickly in a rental car at either.  Our northern Charles de Gaulle branch is found on the Routes des Badauds near Terminal 1, close to the A1-E19 connecting junction at the main gate .  Our southern one is located at the main Orly loop next to the N7 tunnel, within the Orly Ouest section of the terminal .

Attractions In Paris

The metropolitan area of Paris contains more things to see and do than we could ever possibly list. However, you may wish to see the highlights of Paris if you're on holiday. These are generally considered to be the majestic Eiffel Tower, the sprawling Louvre art museum, the Arc de Triomphe, Les Jardin des Plantes and the Grand Palais. The many Catholic chapels of Paris are also world famous, as are the open spaces and boulevards that surround the center. If you're looking for more modern attractions, Paris also contains a seemingly never-ending supply of retail shops, theme parks and theatres.

Places To Visit Outside Paris

The enormous Parisian road network means that it is easy to drive to nearby attractions, as well. The Palace of Versailles is probably the closest and most popular major sightseeing location, but there are many other sites that you could visit. The four separate national parks that surround Paris are often overlooked by those looking for a day out in the French countryside. The port of Le Havre is also a two-and-a-half-hour drive away if you're hoping for a day on the northern French coast.

Parking And Traffic Information In Paris

Road traffic in Paris is usually fairly intense. While the outskirts of the city are usually hassle-free, the small streets of the center can sometimes be tricky to navigate due to congestion at peak times. If you plan your journey in advance and avoid work hours, you may find driving to key locations within the core a lot easier. Reflecting this, paid parking garages (such as those offered by the Parisian franchise Q-Park) are easy to find in most arrondissements of Paris. Spaces in smaller areas may be in short supply.

Paris attractions

As well as the more obvious monuments and landmarks, there is plenty more to do in Paris. Known as the fashion capital of Europe, you'll find clothes for every budget, from the high end,  Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré,  to the more affordable,  Rue de Rennes.  You'll also find some of the best museums and art galleries in the world along with sprawling flea markets, stunning churches and formal gardens.  For foodies, there are restaurants on every street and fabulous open air food markets, such as  Rue Cler  and  Rue Mouffetard  on the Left Bank (south of the river) and  Marché des Enfants Rouges  and  Marché Popincourt  on the Right Bank where you can browse for delicious ingredients to cook up a storm.

Day trips around Paris

The  Palace of Versailles  is probably the closest and most spectacular place to visit outside of Paris. Set in stunning gardens dotted with fountains and lakes, the Palace is worth visiting both inside and out.  A bit further afield, at about and hour and a half's drive, you can spend the day in Monet's beautiful gardens at  Giverny , the inspiration for his famous waterlilly paintings.  The Loire Valley  is the perfect destination for a weekend break, at about two and a half hour's drive from Paris. There are around 300 chateaux in the area, including Blois, Chambord, Amboise and Chaumont, so you can pick and choose which to visit. And of course, if you are travelling with children,  Disneyland Paris  is just an hour out of the city, perfect for a day of fun and magic.

Driving in and around Paris

The centre of Paris is not large and is a combination of wide boulevards and narrow streets.  There are also some very big roundabouts, one of the largest in the world is at  Etoile , where 12 streets meet at the Arc de Triomphe and another large one at the other end of the Champs Elysees, at  Place de la Concorde . Parking in the street can be a problem in the centre and you'll need to pay Monday to Saturday between 9am to 8pm. The safest bet is to check in advance whether there are any paying car parks in the area you are visiting. Alternatively, use public transport in the city and save the car for trips out of Paris. The ring road that surrounds Paris is called the ' Peripherique ' and all roads out of town, including the motorways radiate out from 'gates' around this ring.
