Description

Megalochori

This picturesque village is a nice example of traditional well-preserved settlement in Santorini. You can admire the old vineyards, the cobble-stoned streets, the houses and mansions abandoned after the earthquake of 1956 and then renovated, the doors of the houses painted in beautiful colours, the old-style coffee shop and restaurants in the central square of the village.

Megalochori combines the white Cycladic houses with doors painted in vivid colours and white old churches with blue domes and elaborate belfries.

Pyrgos Village

Pyrgos is located on the foothills of Prophet Elias mountain. Houses with traditional architecture, narrow streets featuring medieval – labyrinthine architecture, fortified walls and hidden passages, old churches, eye-catching sunsets, all of the above can be found in Pyrgos village.

Pyrgos used to be the capital of Santorini in the past and now it is one of the most well-preserved villages on our island.

Perissa – Perivolos Beach

Now it’s time for lunch by the sea and free time at the black beach of Perissa and Perivolos!

This is the most popular beach in Santorini, yet preserving its unique character with black sand, crystal-clear waters, and various beach facilities and water sports.

At Perissa, you can find some very nice restaurants and taverns offering traditional recipes!

Prophet Elias Mountain – Monastery

On Prophet Elias mountain, you can enjoy the view of Santorini from the highest point of the island! With a height of 67 meters (1860 ft), this is the perfect place to see from a panoramic perspective all the towns of Santorini ranging from Akrotiri, Perissa, Perivolos up to Pyrgos, Firostefani or Oia.

The natural beauty of the caldera along with the view of the volcano view makes an impressive scenery. Here you have a perfect chance to take pictures of the most famous church of Santorini which is presented in many documents and brochures all over the world!

Imerovigli Village

Imerovigli has been built on the rim of the caldera cliffs and offers a brilliant view to the volcano, the Aegean Sea and the sunset!

A nice attraction of this village is an imposing rock called Skaros which lies on the seaward side of the village. In the past, that was one of the five fortresses of Santorini and the most important one. The inhabitants of Skaros were able to observe the sea all around Santorini providing security from pirates.

Oia Village – Sunset

Oia is a place for enjoying a breathtaking sunset and one of the most beautiful ones all over the earth, where all visitors gather in the streets, stairs, and rooftops to watch it.

Also, the famous churches with blue domes can be found on the cliffs of Caldera of Oia. You will be walking in the narrow streets of Oia and getting lost in the little alleys of it.

Our tour will end after we will have watched the sunset.

The Tour leader was very good, cant fault her, she is very knowledgeable, sorry forgot her name. Always have a smile for the individuals or for the group. The tour was money well spent. Our guide was excellent and she obviously had a passion for the volcano and geology which made it all the more interesting. Read more Written September 25, 2023
  • Tcu66 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Nice overview It was a nice overview, but there was barely enough time (20 min) at the monastery to walk up the hill and back to the bus. There was also not enough time at Pyrgos (about 40 min). In Firo, there was enough time, but there was no guidance about where to go. Seeing the sunset in Oia was lovely, but you can also see a spectacular sunset in Firo. Read more Written September 22, 2023

  • Adventurer650761 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great tour! Highly recommend! This tour was really good. Pick up was conveniently located close to the hotel I was staying. Vaso, the tour guide was really nice and knowledgeable. She took us to Pyrgos, where we walked around the narrow streets and listened to the history of the town. We also hiked to the top of an active volcano, the views were amazing. Take lots of water, it gets hot! We went swimming in the hot springs, had a nice lunch (not included) in another little island and ended up in Oia to watch the sunset. Oia gets really busy, so be prepared to wait to take “that” special picture. Other than that everything else was perfect! Highly recommend this tour. Read more Written July 24, 2021
  • mgg121 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Nice but too long of a tour This is a nice tour but it’s 12 -13 hours. It started off nice with a walk at the islands highest point in Santorini. Next up- we took a bus and then boat to the volcano. We walked about 30 minutes up the volcano in the heat. Ladies should wear sneakers not sandals. It’s also very hot so a hat is good to have. The boat stops at the hot springs but you have to jump from the boat in the water. From here we went to Thirassia Island for free time to grab lunch or swim on the beach. We were here for 2 hours and after went on the boat to Oia to view the sunset- another 2 hours. At this point we were exhausted and wanted to go home instead of walking around for 2 hours and then take the tour bus back to the port. We ended up leaving early and took a taxi back to our hotel. • Vlad G 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Relatively good Vaso was a great guide, very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Morning part, volcano and springs were pretty good The downsides were that : - on Thirasia we were left alone for 3 hours "to do as we pleased". We didn't have the option of learning about the island or so. - on Oia, we were recommended a few bars hastily, after which the tour guide went for a coffee for 2 hours, and left us alone to "explore". Half of the day felt more like "free" travel (which would actually be a lot cheaper if you take the bus by yourself ) and a small word of advice which doesn't genuinely help that much. Our tour guide, Vaso, was very entertaining and knowledgeable. I recommend this tour! We had an issue with the pickup - the email said we were getting picked at a Supermarket but the bus never stopped there; instead, it stopped at the hotel across the street. The bus driver stopped, saw us, didn't say anything and drove off. We were rescheduled for the next day and made it to our trip. The drop off at the port is hectic. The bus driver did not give us clear instructions of where to go, neither where they included in the reservation email. We guessed which one was our boat based on the pictures. Once on the boat everything was great. Read more Written September 7, 2019
  • annacristina10 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Good day spent here! We had a really enjoyable time. It was a very punctual and organised trip. The guide was funny and took us to a lot of places. He also made sure we were all with him. Although everything went very ok, I thought it was too long, the trip. From 10 to 6, in my opinion we could have spent less time in every destination. Also, in the description from Trip Advisor there was not mentioned that we needed good shoes for the first stop were we hiked 30 min on the volcano. As I hiked harder paths before, I knew how to walk in sandals so I was just fine. But maybe for others it would be good to mention so they do not sit on the boat. Also, there was no mention that on the boat we would have food or drinks to purchase, I brought a heavy bag with me for nothing. Besides this, it was worth the money! Read more Written July 26, 2019

  • ewcpow 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Longest day ever Too many people! The boat was overcrowded and it was impossible to hear the tour guide. The volcano walk was miserable. Everyone wore flip flops, slipping and sliding. The stop on Tharaissa was a waste. 3 hours to eat in poor restaurants and swim on slimy pointed rocks. Finally, the climb up the steps of Oia was ridiculous. You could either ride a mule or walk. I can’t imagine forcing that poor mule to carry me up that hill so we hoofed it. Again, in flip flops sliding through mule xxx, it was incredibly steep and hot. In pretty good shape and it was really tough. The town was beautiful but we were so hot and miserable from the day we hopped a cab and watched the sunset after a long hot shower in our hotel. Avoid this tour at all costs! • Jeff G 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Too long, good way to see a lot of sites Decent value but could have seen same sights in far less time. For example, allowing 1 1/2 + hours at Perissa is not enough time to swim, but too long for lunch and photos. Likewise the winery stop is a waste, basically a shopping stop for overpriced wines. Do this only if you have multiple days on the island. Read more Written July 27, 2018

Ratings & Reviews

Your experience.

Start your journey by bus from the pick-up point and head over to the port of Athinios. This is where you will board the King Thiras boat. Your first stop on the boat is the volcanic island of Nea Kameni, located in the Aegean Sea, within the flooded Santorini caldera. Follow your guide up the soil path and approach the crater of the still-active volcano! Then, make your way to the second volcanic island, Palea Kameni. The King Thiras boat stops approximately 50 meters away from the hot springs. This means you can simply dive into the green sulfur waters or sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.

Later, set sail to Thirasia Island, once part of Santorini before the big volcanic explosion in 1500 BC. Only 9 sq. km in size, the island is mostly uninhabited and is untouched by tourism. Stay here for 2-3 hours and have a go at swimming, lunching next to the sea, or exploring the village of Manolas. The latter has small, picturesque houses with winding steps, surrounded by colorful blossoms.

Once you leave Thirasia Island, hop aboard King Thiras boat again and go to Athinios. From there, take the bus to the village Oia. Built on the cliffs of the caldera, Oia is world-famous for its sunsets. Admire the cascade of whitewashed buildings, peppered with windmills and blue-dome churches awash in pinks and oranges and yellows. It is truly a sight to behold. 30 minutes after the sunset, the tour ends. Gather at the pick-up point in Oia and board the bus that takes you back to the point from where you started the excursion.

Santorini wine tour with sunset in oia.

santorini city tour with sunset oia

This five-hour tour involves a fun trip to two of the most famous local wineries in Santorini and watching the sunset in Oia . These are perhaps the best things to do after admiring the beauty of the famous village of Oia.

At the wineries, you’ll get to enjoy up to 9 samples of the local volcanic wines . Your tour will start with a visit to Hatzidakis Winery , nestled in a beautiful location in Pyrgos village, where you will have the chance to wander around the vast vineyards as well as the old cellars and get insights into wine production. The vineyard was abandoned after the significant earthquake in 1956 but was successfully re-cultivated some years later, and a small underground winery was created, a ''Kanava'' as the locals call the wineries. You can taste four of the most exceptional wines here, accompanied by small local bites, before heading towards Mesa Gonia for exploring the popular wine museum and getting a glimpse into the life of an ancient winemaker.

Located in a cave, this extraordinary 300-meter museum stands eight meters under the ground. Its construction is a result of 21 years of hard work and effort by the Koutsogiannopoulos Family. At the museum, you’ll learn about the different stages in the winemaking process as well as the types of machinery and equipment used to make wine. There, you’ll be invited to take a few sips of the family’s volcanic wines. Its unique flavor is sure to refresh your taste buds.

After the wine-tasting experience, you’ll move toward Oia and the Sun Spirit Bar. This bar is one of the best spots for watching the Oia sunset. You’ll have your seats reserved at the bar to ensure that you enjoy the sight of the sun going down to the fullest while sipping on some wine.

Throughout the Santorini Wine Tour , a local guide will accompany you and tell some interesting details about the places you visit. They will pick you up from your hotel or a nearby pickup point when the tour starts and drop you there after the tour.

A must do! The trip was well organized and the tour guide was amazing <3

santorini city tour with sunset oia

The guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the tour and provided insightful information about the history of the vineyards and the wine production. The 2 vineyards visited were beautiful, one had an interesting museum with a super wine choice and the other a tour of the wine cellar and slightly different wines to sample. There was no pressure to buy but both vineyards provided the option at a price cheaper than most supermarkets around. The trip finished in Oia at the Sunrise cocktail bar and a wonderful sunset view. Overall a great experience and I highly recommended.

Hello, my husband John and I had a wonderful time on the Santorini Wine Tour! Our guide, Yannis (spelling?), was fabulous! He was funny and engaging, and he shared so many interesting facts about the area and the wines with us. He made everyone feel right at home throughout the tour. The time flew by! I would highly recommend this tour to others! Mary Christian
