LOS ANGELES (October 17, 2023) Slash Feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators have confirmed a massive run of 2024 international dates. The newly announced The River Is Rising-Rest of the World Tour ’24 will kick off with the band’s return to Mexico City’s Pepsi Centre WTC, and will see SMKC hit 21 countries, and 32 cities across the globe. General on sale for tickets begins Friday, October 20 at 10:00 AM local time , but fans can access pre-sale tickets from Thursday, October 19 at 10:00 AM local time by signing up at   https://laylo.com/slash/m/river-is-rising .  For tickets, pre-sale access and more information, visit: https://www.slashonline.com/tour/ .

A decade and four albums into their career, the universally acclaimed album 4 –which debuted as the #1 Most-Selling Hard Rock Album –is SMKC like you’ve never heard them before. A vibrant rock album fueled by memorable guitar hooks and compelling melodies, big choruses , and even bigger riffs , 4 hits on awide range of sounds, styles, and moods in 10 songs, and does it all with laser-sharp musical focus and a lightning-in-a-bottle sense of immediacy .

The fourth studio album from SMKC and SLASH’s fifth solo album overall, SLASH and his bandmates MYLES KENNEDY (Vocals), TODD KERNS (Bass & Vocals), BRENT FITZ (Drums), and FRANK SIDORIS (Guitar & Vocals), partnered with producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, John Prine, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile), on 4 resulting in the band’s strongest album to date. Recorded at RCA Studio A in Nashville, Cobb shared the band’s desire to lay down the tracks live in the studio–including guitar solos and vocals –revealing a stunning, vital sound and style all captured live .

Listen to SMKC’s album 4 , available everywhere via Gibson Records HERE .

The album kicks off with opening track “The River is Rising” —which reached #7 on the Rock Charts , making it the band’s 8 t h , consecutive Top 10 hit single at radio —is one of the band’s toughest and most dynamic compositions to date, unraveling via a menacing, tightly-coiled riff and deep-in-the-pocket groove. “April Fool” followed the successful first single “The River Is Rising” . SMKC performed “The River Is Rising” which Rolling Stone hailed as “raucous” and Billboard acclaimed as “ euphoric” with“ a surging main riff, dissonant hooks, an infectious chorus, and a guitar solo that conjures images of a rowdy bar brawl” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! , HERE .

4 is a standout album that grabs hold, and never lets go , from the deliberate stomp rock of “Whatever Gets You By,” the bright-toned, heart-on-sleeve pop-rocker “Fill My World,” to the talk box-drenched guitar hooks of “C’est La Vie,” exotica-tinged psychedelic fever dream of “Spirit Love,” the anthemic swell of “The Path Less Followed,” to the cowbell-inflected boogie-shake of “Actions Speak Louder Than Words,” the grimy Aerosmith-esque funk of “April Fool,” to the rampaging attack of “Call Off the Dogs,” and climaxing with the epic, six minute album closer “Fall Back to Earth.”

SMKC’s 2024 international dates mark some of the band’s biggest headlining shows since the 2022 release of 4 , which has generated some of the most positive critical accolades in the group’s history including:

“musically stinging crunch-rock … beautifully melodic.”

– USA TODAY

“On 4, the fourth record by Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators , he [Slash] captured the mojo he was after by recording most of the album live in a mere 10 days at Nashville’s RCA Studio A… For Slash, recording off the cuff was as liberating as he had hoped it would be, and not second-guessing himself contributed to the album’s eclecticism. There’s the heart-aching power ballad ‘Fall Back to Earth’ the glam-banging ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words’ and the euphoric first single, ‘The River Is Rising, ’ which features a surging main riff, dissonant hooks, an infectious chorus and a guitar solo that conjures images of a rowdy bar brawl.”

– BILLBOARD

“On the album, Slash delivers a collection of unflinching hard rock riffs that showcase his tenure as a world-class guitarist.”

– THE TENNESSEAN

“From the insistent churn of the opening track and first single ‘The River Is Rising,’ to the slippery funk rhythms of ‘April Fool,’ the dinosaur-sized stomp of ‘Whatever Gets You By’ t o the off-to-the-races sprint of ‘Call Of The Dogs,’ 4 hits with the immediacy of a great live show . … Slash & Co color outside the lines on tracks like the slinky, Eastern-tinged ‘Spirit Love’ and the uncharacteristically major-key pop-rock workout ‘Fill My World, ’ as well as the widescreen epic ballad ‘Fall Back to Earth’ which closes the record in dramatic fashion. Overall, it’s a leaner, harder and more expansive take on the SMKC sound .”

– GUITAR WORLD (Cover)

“ The whole album is a masterpiece . If you want to know what real rock-and-roll sounds like, crack it up nice and loud.”

 – METAL INSIDER

“Album opener (and highlight) ‘The River Is Rising’ will be a live favorite, thanks to a stomping, Motörhead-style outro, steeped in Lemmy and Phil Taylor-isms . Elsewhere, ‘April Fool’ impresses thanks to a frankly filthy riff , while ballad ‘Fill My World’ is a proper showstopper .”

– HOT PRESS (Ireland)

“An impressive feat.”

                                          – AMERICAN SONGWRITER (Cover)

“While there’s undeniable links to Zeppelin in the final product, hints of country guitar stylings are also evident in some of Slash’s remarkable guitar solos . On the very Guns N’ Roses styled track, ‘ April Fool,’ Slash leans into the riff as the band hit the chordal accents in time. The guitar tone has serious bite, especially in the solo, where Slash drops in some nuanced country guitar licks .”

– LOUD (Australia)

“ Slithering solos and crunchy choruses .”

 – DAILY MAIL

“Through the decades, Guitar hero Slash has gone beyond his Guns N’ Roses roots to create powerful collaborations with groups like Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators , this team’s recent endeavor is a powerful album simply titled ‘4 ’ , on the brand new record label Gibson Records.”

– GOLDMINE (Cover)

“At this point the Slash crew is well-honed, and 4 shows off the quintet’s brawny confidence along with a seamless interweaving of sources . In ‘ The River Is Rising’- the opening track and first single – the quintet tears through a thunderous mingling of grunge (think Alice in Chains’ ‘Man in the Box’) with Tom Morello-leaning solo, ‘Paradise City’-style tempo changes and even a wink at Deep Purple ‘s ‘Crazy’ at the very end. Not bad for a mere 3:42, and the confluence does not sound at all forced. … ‘The Path Less Followed’ is a cranking, punching riff rocker while ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words’ chugs into heavy boogie … The six-and-a-half-minute [Fall Back to Earth’] comes like a hard-rock James Bond theme, dramatic and careening through texture changes as well as one of Slash’s trademark, biting solos – shades of the Use Your Illusion era.”

– ULTIMATE CLASSIC ROCK

“ A solid album jam packed with soaring vocals, unforgettable melodies, large choruses, and riffs that will blow your mind .”

– AQUARIAN

“The ‘River Is Rising’ marks the first new music in three years from Slash and his band, and it doesn’t disappoint . There’s a metallic stomp to the track , which opens with a tremolo riff that would be at home in a black metal song. From there, quintet lock into a four-on-the-floor groove as Kennedy alternates between epic singing and cleaner melodies during the chorus. Overall, there’s plenty to satiate both hard rock and metal fans” .

– CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

Road Tripping: A Tour of America’s Best Rest Stops

An image of the Iowa 80 truck stop sign.

Taking a road trip is one of the ideal choices for weekend travelers and everyday adventurers alike. From picturesque drives through cities like New York or Chicago to the idyllic sights and sounds of a trip through a national park, there’s something to see no matter where you find yourself across the country.

But no matter how prepared you are for your next road trip , you’re going to need to make a stop or two along the way. Fortunately, just as there are countless sights to see across the country, the highways and roads are also filled with must-see attractions.

To help you make the most of every one of your pit stops, here’s a list of America’s 10 best rest stops:

The Iowa 80 Truck Stop

If you find yourself off of I-80, on exit 284 in Walcott, Iowa, you will see none other than the World’s Largest Truck Stop . Sitting 40 miles east of the University of Iowa, this rest stop truly works to live up to its namesake, having close to everything anyone on a road trip may need, including the ever-important gas station .

Hungry? Take your pick from one of eight dining options, with everything from the Iowa 80 Kitchen’s seating for 300, to a quick bite at any of the other seven dining options. Or take your pick from your usual road trip favorite snacks at their expanded convenience store.

If that wasn’t enough, you can also get a haircut, find a chiropractor, visit a dentist, do some laundry, check out a movie, get in a quick workout (and needed shower afterward), and more! That’s not including their full-service truck service center with their own ASE Certified mechanics available 24/7. There’s even a trucking museum and even non-denominational services on Sundays to go along with the 5,000 customers they see on an average day.

South of the Border

An image of the South of the Border truck stop sign in Dillon, South Carolina.

Located off of I-95 in Dillon, South Carolina, the world-famous South of the Border is our next recommended stop to make. As the self-described “favorite highway oasis & gateway to the southeast,” you’ll find plenty to do here.

From grabbing a bite at one of the four different dining options, ranging from fast food, casual dining to a full-on steakhouse. There’s even a place to grab some much-needed ice cream after dinner!

The Border is also renowned for being home to the largest indoor reptile exhibit in the United States, and it is open every day. There you can see up to 15 species of crocodilians and over 50+ different kinds of snakes and other reptiles and lizards. All the more notable is Pedroland, an amusement park with a Ferris wheel, carousel, bumper cars, mini-golf, and an arcade. The Border even has an inn and a campground if you need to stay the night .

While our next selection is a chain, there is still plenty to do or find any time you find yourself at any of the 39 Buc-ee’s locations across the country, with a majority in the Lonestar state.

Each Buc-ee’s location boasts huge restrooms, tons of gas pumps, and fully stocked delis. You can even stumble across a world record or two during your stops at a Buc-ee’s as well, with the New Braunfels location boasting the world’s largest convenience store at a whopping 66,335 square feet as well as winning Cintas’ 2012 America’s Best Restroom Award. You can even take a trip down the Katy, Texas location’s world record 255-foot long carwash .

Little America

T here’s nothing little about it. Located at Exit 198 off of I-40 in Flagstaff, Arizona, the place is not even built or designed like a typical rest stop or travel center . In fact, it is a beautiful resort with a 500-acre golf course, swimming pool, fitness center, and a fully functional business center.

Along with the expected gas station, travelers and visitors alike can find a 24/7 convenience store that comes stocked with enough books, groceries, CDs, DVDs, and souvenirs to just be a full-on mini-mall. You can even find a private shower facility (with oversized tubs!), a coin-operated laundry, a deli, and more .

R-Place Restaurant

If your hunger pangs get you while passing through Morris, Illinois, on I-80, this is the place to park for a break. R-Place is a 24/7 haven for baked goods and American comfort food, as well as being infamous for their food challenges too.

If you manage to wolf down the Ethyl Burger, a 2-pound hamburger on top of a 1 lb bun, and over a pound of toppings within one hour, it’s free! You also get some bragging rights to also go along with it. In all, R-Place’s food is so popular outside of being considered a rest stop, and they even cater in their neighborhood.

Another chain stop on our list, any one of the various Sapp Bros. locations stretching from Salt Lake City, Utah to Clearfield, Pennsylvania. In all, Sapp Bros. Travel Center is more than just a rest stop, as they even provide 24-hour roadside service to go along with the usual assortment of fuel selections, service centers, personal showers, and more .

Tamarack Tourist Information Center

Just off of Exit 45 on I-77 and I-64 in Beckley, West Virginia, the Tamarack Marketplace has everything a traveler may need to rest and recharge. They have all the expected food courts and tourist information centers, but they even have a fine arts gallery that showcases the works of over 2,800+ artists from around the world, glass blowing workshops, a conference center, and more. It has been said that more than half a million people stop at the center every year. You can even get married there too!

Jubitz Truck Stop and Travel Center

FOX Travel Channel called this spot the “World’s Classiest Truck Stop.” Judge for yourself should you wind up off of I-5 in Portland, Oregon, at the Jubitz Truck Stop and Travel Center .

Operating since 1952, today travelers can find a place to rest for the night at the Portlander Inn with over 100 rooms for anyone too tired to keep driving. If you are there just for a quick rest, they have a restaurant, convenience store, and even an 80-seat movie theater. Jubitz is also famous for the Ponderosa Lounge complete with pool tables, TVs, dance lessons, video poker, and even live music on weekends .

Bear Lake Rest Area and Overlook

A Travel Channel special claimed this rest stop has the best view in the U.S. We can see that given how it is located off of Route 89 in Bear Lake, Utah .

It is such a great spot to look at Bear Lake and the iconic mountains that circle it. As a bonus, try taking the time at this stop for some fresh air at the hiking trail. If that’s not enough fun to do, you can even make time to do some fishing, go horseback riding, learn about the history of Butch Cassidy, and more!

Trail’s Travel Center

Finally, we have a hidden gem in the show-me state, just off I-35 in Albert Lea, Minnesota at the Trail’s Travel Center . This spot has all the expected fast food restaurants, but they have a famous tavern with the largest whiskey selection in southern Minnesota at the Skol Woodfire Grill . For those breaking up a long haul, there’s a movie theater, WiFi, and church services on Sundays to go along with their 300+ truck parking spots, 10 shower facilities, and other unique amenities .

Is the Race for Yellow Over? And More Rest Day Takeaways From the Tour

Pogacar’s dominance, Cavendish’s resurgence, and other news you might have missed.

108th tour de france 2021 stage 9

After the first nine stages of the 2021 Tour de France, with Sunday’s stage ending atop a Category 1 climb to the ski resort in Tignes, the first rest day is here. Let’s discuss what we’ve learned in the last nine days, and hand out some early grades.

Is the race for the yellow jersey over?

Among Pogačar’s better-known rivals, things … aren’t great. Rigoberto Uran of EF Education-Nippo is closest, 5:18 down. For perspective, that’s more than the final winning margin of any Tour since 2014, when Vincenzo Nibali beat Jean-Christophe Peraud by 7:37.

On every day that mattered in the race so far, Pogačar has put time into his rivals. He won the time trial, and has crushed in the mountains. With Pogačar’s most threatening challenger, Primož Roglič, out of the race after crash injuries torpedoed his Tour, it’s worth asking the question: is the 2021 Tour already over?

This is where we remind you that there are almost two weeks of racing yet to come, and anything can happen, yada yada yada . Pogačar’s clearest weakness is his team, which has struggled to control the race the last three stages. But that hasn’t seemed to bother him much; he’s been comfortable even when isolated, and is living by the adage “the best defense is a good offense.”

Beyond mishaps like crashes or crosswinds, where Pogačar has proved a bit vulnerable in the past, there’s one other possibility to consider: he’s peaking too soon. Pogačar has been head-and-shoulders the best rider in the race so far, but it’s hard to sustain top form like this for long. (Last year, Pogačar’s coach, Iñigo san Millàn, said he actually had to back Pogačar off at one point because he was too strong too soon.)

So there’s a chance that Pogačar will fade in the third week, but keep in mind that Pogačar is grabbing fistfuls of time whenever he can. That advantage will be tough for his rivals to erode. Pogačar is also a heady racer; if he starts to lose form, he won’t panic, but right now, it’s what his rivals have to work with. It’ll take aggressive, creative racing to crack him—but it’s not impossible.

108th tour de france 2021 stage 8

Other jersey competitions in flux

Pogačar also leads the Young Rider standings comfortably, over Jumbo-Visma’s Jonas Vingegaard. The KOM jersey competition is just heating up, and Nairo Quintana (Arkea-Samsic) may be eyeing another win in that competition to add to his 2013 title. There’s a lot of climbing left, and riders like Michael Woods of Israel Start-Up Nation and Wout Poels (Bahrain-Victorious) could be challengers.

The most interesting secondary competition, however, is for points. Deceuninck-Quick Step’s Mark Cavendish leads those standings comfortably, with 168 points to BikeExchange’s Michael Matthews, at 130. For all of Cav’s 32 Tour stage wins (two in this Tour), he’s only won green in Paris once, in 2011. A second jersey would be the capper to a remarkable comeback season, given that he was almost out of the sport last year.

But it will be a tough road. Matthews and Bahrain-Victorious’s Sonny Colbrelli, in third with 120 points, are cagey veterans who climb better than Cavendish. (Cav was just ahead of the time cut on Stage 9, while Colbrelli was in the break and third on the stage and Matthews finished comfortably in the gruppetto.)

Cavendish, by contrast, wasn’t even supposed to be at the Tour; he was a final-week replacement in DQS’s roster for Sam Bennett. And he has a spotty history of making it to Paris, with DNFs in five of his 13 Tour starts. The race’s second week features few true sprint finishes, and Cav may have to join the breakaways to fight for valuable intermediate sprint points, which will cost him energy he’ll need to survive the time cut in the Pyrenees.

On his side: extreme confidence, for one. Cavendish’s Stage 4 victory was a breakthrough, quickly followed by another win two days later. Confidence is its own kind of leadout, and no one’s is higher than Cav’s. The sprinters’ field is also rapidly dwindling. Alpecin-Fenix, the best sprint team in the race, lost two sprinters today when Stage 2 winner and leadout man extraordinaire Mathieu van der Poel didn’t start and Stage 3 winner Tim Merlier dropped out mid-stage. FDJ’s Arnaud Démare missed the time cut. So there are only a few rivals left to watch.

Finally, Cavendish doesn’t have big objectives left this season: the Olympic course is too hilly for pure sprinters, and he’ll need rest after the Tour. So there’s zero reason to hold back. This is Cav’s YOLO Tour, and we’re all enjoying the ride.

How Do Tour de France Riders Pee?

First rest day grades, tadej pogačar: a+.

Simply put, he’s done everything right, got lucky with the first-week crashes, and is flying. He’s the best TT rider in the race and its best climber. Shaky team aside, he seems personally invincible. It’s his race to lose.

Deceuninck-Quick Step, Alpecin-Fenix, and Bahrain-Victorious: A

All three teams have at least two stage wins, and DQS and Alpecin both held the yellow jersey. None of them came to the Tour hoping for an overall victory. Stages were their big focus, and they’ve already delivered. Alpecin’s Mathieu van der Poel in particular came out fantastic: winning a stage and taking the yellow jersey to honor his grandfather, Raymond Poulidor, who never wore yellow in his otherwise-standout career. Van der Poel held the lead six days, longer than most expected, and departed the race Sunday to focus on the Olympic mountain bike race.

Ineos Grenadiers: D

Cycling’s superteam entered the 2021 Tour with three former Grand Tour winners on its roster, and at least two hopefuls for the overall (2018 Tour winner Geraint Thomas and 2019 Giro d’Italia winner Richard Carapaz). Nine stages in, those goals are shredded. Thomas crashed on at least two early stages, separating his shoulder. He’s almost 40 minutes behind. Carapaz limited his damage in the frenetic early stages, but has steadily bled time since. Twice, he’s made aggressive moves that were brought back by Pogačar or others, spending lots of energy for no gain. For a team with a $70 million budget—four times the WorldTour average—it’s inexcusable to be almost halfway through the Tour with zero stage wins and their best rider in fifth overall.

The Tour De France is often cited as the world’s most grueling endurance event. It’s a few weeks long. A couple of thousand miles. A daily photo opportunity involving women kissing men on the podium. Yes, as of 2019, “podium girls” were still a thing . That tradition needs to end, unless there’s a full-distance women’s Tour that has podium boys dressed in sailor’s outfits.

So, yes, the Tour de France can be grueling physically (and in other ways). Thankfully, the organizers schedule a couple of rest days during the race. Riders can put their feet up. Spectators can relax. Women on the podium don’t have to be objectified.

What do you think riders do on those rest days? They are racing six hours a day, on the edge of what’s humanly possible, even back in the Lance years when they had all the drugs available to humans and horses. I know I’d be doing Netflix intervals and nothing else.

But that’s not how it works. Almost all of the teams go out for a couple-hour easy ride . The conventional wisdom is that one day of doing nothing can lead to showing up with the next day with nothing in the legs. They ride, get a massage, eat like circus elephants. Then the next day, they again hammer themselves into a fine dust.

I think that Tour de France rest days have important lessons for runners.

Eventually, this article reviews how to use the lessons to set a routine to make rest days work for you. First, hundreds of tangentially related words.

Let’s start by thinking about why Tour rest days might be analogous to more typical training for runners. While training hopefully doesn’t reduce you to fine dust, there is a chronic stress load that is always piling up in the background, like a PC that is low on disc space and slowing down bit by bit. Consistently adapting through fatigue is what separates smart training from self-destruction. Riders in the Tour are at the razor’s edge of persevering through a few weeks of chronic stress and careening into a physical ditch. That’s why doping is such a big problem in Tour history—it puts some bumpers on the ditch in racing and training.

While training hopefully doesn’t reduce you to fine dust, there is a chronic stress load that is always piling up in the background, like a PC that is low on disc space and slowing down bit by bit. Consistently adapting through fatigue is what separates smart training from self-destruction.

On a lesser scale, all runners training to chase their potential are at a precarious balance. One side of the seesaw has adaptation and growth. The other side has injury and burnout and ditch sharks (yes, there are sharks in the ditch). But, a problem! Here is where things are different for long-term training. There is some feedback lag between the underlying physiological state and mental/physical feelings in many athletes. That offset is most evident in biomarkers.

Measure cortisol and hemoglobin and other stress-affected variables often, and usually they’ll start going to the wrong end of the seesaw before an athlete knows it. The mental and physical manifestations of overstress can lag behind the cellular-level drivers. It’s like climate change—greenhouse gases emitted now will be driving calamities many decades in the future. When the worst disasters begin, it’ll be too late. The same goes for overtraining from chronic stress.

Rest days serve two main purposes that connect back to the Tour riders.

One, rest days are insurance against disaster—this is the recovery element. Yeah, you might not need to rest every week. But if you wait to rest until you think you need it, you may already be circled by some hungry ditch sharks. Rest days let you reduce cortisol, keep sex hormone balance and prevent insidious overuse injuries. That recovery element is why the Tour riders keep the riding very relaxed, rather than doing some bonus training.

Two, rest days can help spur adaptation. Glycogen replenishment and more complex stress/healing cycles are at play here. While this element plays less of a role in three-week long races, it’s what got the racers to that level in the first place.

However, now is when things get interesting. If rest days are about recovering and adaptation, both of which do not require an aerobic stimulus, why do they ride at all?

It could just be tradition. But given how narrow the margins are at that level of elite sport, it’s safe to assume they ride on their rest days because not riding might spell disaster for unexpected reasons.

Given how narrow the margins are at that level of elite sport, it’s safe to assume Tour athletes ride on their rest days because not riding might spell disaster for unexpected reasons.

Most popular articles on the subject talk about flushing lactic acid from the legs, but the body doesn’t really work that way. Perhaps it’s facilitating blood flow, which can enhance some of the recovery and adaptation processes. Maybe the slight blood volume stress prevents any losses on the day off. Other reasons may include: changes in muscle tension with lack of activity, neuromuscular variables that have high sensitivity or even really cool stuff like epigenetic expression. Or that might all be a big load of crap and it’s actually that if they stop riding, they’ll suddenly realize that mom was right all along and that the engineering school in Paris is still enrolling new students. Whatever the exact reason, full rest off the bike is not common in the Tour de France.

But now, things diverge sharply for runners.

Running involves impact forces, and using running form causes a higher heart rate for most athletes than a very easy bike spin. On a Tour rest day in 2017, Reto Hollenstein did 86 minutes at an average heart rate of 100 beats per minute. Most of the other riders are spinning around 15 miles per hour, which is almost no relative output for these monsters. And even if they added some effort, cyclists don’t have to worry about the bonus stress that comes from impact.

Maybe a runner could go slow enough to be around 100 beats per minute. I know I couldn’t, because my heart rate spikes to 140 when I get a notification from the Doordash app. But maybe there are runners who could. The problem is that even very easy jogs come with musculoskeletal stress that can contribute to overuse injuries. And short of that, it may just add to background risk without enough benefit to justify it.

The problem is that even very easy jogs come with musculoskeletal stress that can contribute to overuse injuries. And short of that, it may just add to background risk without enough benefit to justify it.

So why do some runners hate rest days? All the time in coaching, I’ll hear from a runner that says they just don’t rest because it makes them feel worse the next day. My guess is that feeling is largely neuromuscular, but whatever the cause, rest days make them feel horrible. In the worst cases, they may do daily running streaks. That sentence might not have seemed like a big deal to you, but to me, that was a horror movie jump-scare.

That’s why I ask athletes to take a page out of the cyclists’ handbook. Rest days don’t mean “DO NOTHING AT ALL.” Rest days mean move enough to avoid whatever downfalls come from total lack of activity without risking adaptation and recovery.

I generally like all athletes to fully rest from running once every seven to 10 days, including pros who could run each day without a problem. If you’re resting from running more than once a week, the other days can involve more focused aerobic cross training with a higher heart rate.

Here are my five rest-day guidelines.

One: Stay on a routine, with a warm-up and a light walk in place of a training run.

You can sub in a very light bike or swim if you are efficient enough at those sports so it doesn’t cause any fatigue.

I like a 20-to-90-minute walk, moving efficiently but not moderate or hard.

The Tour riders are doing the equivalent of walking on the rest days. But runners can’t really do the same effort running unless they are total beasts and extremely durable. I like a 20-to-90-minute walk, moving efficiently but not moderate or hard. And even though you aren’t running, you can still do some trail dancing. Basically, do some focused movement, just without impact or stress.

Two: Mobility and massage

Fascia and muscle fibers are subject to short-term changes that can cause that next-day staleness and tightness in some athletes. I love foam rolling, light stretching and leg swings. But find what works for you.

Three: Eat like a circus elephant

Glycogen replenishment plays a role in hormonal state, stress reduction, healing and adaptation to training. An athlete might not always be able to avoid within-day deficits during heavy training.

Rest days are the backstop against depletion. Eat a couple big, fun meals, and wake up the next day knowing your body has the surplus needed to reach your long-term potential.

Four: Keep the blood flowing

Try to avoid just sitting at a desk for 10 hours and calling it a day. This element can be very simple. I like athletes to walk around every couple hours, do some push-ups, maybe put their feet up against the wall, perhaps use the sauna with a bunch of sweaty guys that grunt for no apparent reason.

Think of it like living a dog’s life, chilling hard most of the time, napping if you have time, but periodically moving to a new snoozle location and going on some smell walks.

Five: Practice love

Rest days can be dark days. Here’s what you need to remember: the brain may be deprived of some of what it thinks it needs (running, endorphins), but the body is getting exactly what it actually needs. Our brains can adapt to new situations quickly and in a non-linear way.

Meanwhile, the body plays it slow, with the imperceptible movement of the hour hand governing underlying physiological processes. So try to give the brain some of what it wants without giving it what it may think it needs, risking health and growth in the process.

I like athletes to focus on love. Love others, to start. Consciously be the kindest version of yourself you can be.

But most importantly, love yourself. Your brain may want to turn on you. I am fat like a circus elephant! I am getting slower! I am a human raft full of trash and lard! The resting brain can be creatively self-loathing.

And when the brain does that, don’t fight it. Hug those thoughts, and redirect them. No, brain, I’m giving my body what it needs. I am like a beautiful snow leopard! I am adapting! I am a sleek speedboat anchored in the harbor!

Rest days are about taking actions that manifest the patience and kindness of love into your physical growth. Now, I’d really appreciate it if two Podium Bots kissed this article on the cheek.

I guess rest days aren’t about rest, not really. Rest days are about taking actions that manifest the patience and kindness of love into your physical growth. Now, I’d really appreciate it if two Podium Bots kissed this article on the cheek.

Russia Moscow Tour

Day 1 Panoramic city tour

Welcome to the glorious capital of Russia, Moscow! You’ll be met by your driver at the airport and taken to your centrally located hotel.

After check-in and rest, meet your private guide at the hotel lobby for a comprehensive tour of Moscow by car. Visit the starkly contrasting Theatre Square to see the stunning Bolshoi Theatre, pass Tverskaya Street, the city’s main boulevard and home to the landmark Yeleseyevskiy Grocery Store.

You’ll enjoy a panoramic drive along the Moskva River, where a huge, controversial state of Peter the Great was erected. Pass by the legendary Gorky Park and the White House before a stop at the architecturally stunning Novodevichy Convent, and the observation platform at Sparrow Hills, for a bird’s eye view over this staggering megalopolis.

Day 2 Red Square and Kremlin

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical city centre. Stroll through the Red Square, the hub of cultural life in Moscow, with its elaborate ‘stone flower’ fountain and fantasy-like St Basil’s Cathedral – a postcard-perfect symbol of the nation. Admire the grandiose façade of GUM, the city’s most luxurious shopping centre, and visit Alexander’s Garden, with its eternal flame and the chance to watch a changing of the guards.

Break for lunch before continuing on a tour of the Kremlin and Armoury Chamber, famous of its collection of tsarist fashion, with regalia such as jewel-encrusted crowns, orbs and sceptres as well as arms and armour, exotic gifts from the leaders of faraway lands, and an illustrious case of Imperial Faberge eggs.

As an option* spend an evening on a sumptuous dinner cruise, taking in the stunning sights and city lights of this mesmerising metropolis by night.

Day 3 Metro and Arbat Street

Start a day with a tour of Metro, stopping on the way to marvel at some of the most elaborately decorated stations of the world-famous Moscow subway system. Take a stroll along Old Arbat street - the most famous street in Moscow. Through the centuries Arbat used to be one of the most bohemian places in Moscow. Today Arbat is a promenade full of small cozy cafes and street life.

The afternoon is free for you to either enjoy the rest of the day on your own or choose among optional excursions to explore more of Moscow. Visit the Tretyakov Gallery or Pushkin State Museum to admire Russian art. Join locals for a stroll at the Gorky or VDNH park.

Visit beautiful Kolomeskoye Estate or Izmailovo Kremlin, or spend a day exploring the beautiful city of the Golden Ring (Russian province) - Sergiev Posad. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your departure to your next destination.

Why travel to Moscow

Contrasts: 12th century monasteries and some of the tallest skyscrapers in Europe can be found side-by-side in this complex and captivating city. The diversity of this mega-city is astounding. Only a few steps away from the solemn red facade of the Kremlin and the sounds of righteous church bells, a buzzing night scene and alternative-fashion boutiques can be found.

Culture: In Moscow only the best goes. Be it a theatre, restaurant or gallery, the standards are certain to be world-class. The Bolshoi ballet company is reputed to be even better than the Mariinsky’s and “MMOMA” (Moscow’s museum of modern art) exhibits works of art as profound as any that could be found in the famed MOMA.

Convenience: Unlike the rest of Russia, it’s easy enough to get by with just English in Moscow and, driving excepted, it is surprisingly safe: the murder rate is lower than in some of America’s major cities.

Why visit Moscow

It would take more than two days to walk around the perimeter of the biggest city in Europe, Moscow. Many of its inhabitants barely know what’s beyond the few blocks around their flat and there are so many attractions that it’s almost impossible to know where to start. If there is such a thing as an antidote to boredom, Moscow City is it. The mind-boggling range and diversity of things to do, places to eat, parks, historical monuments and more means that a vacation in Moscow has a wealth of activities to offer for every type of traveler, from young families to retirees.

Reasons to Vacation in Moscow in 2022

The Bolshoi theatre is familiar to almost everyone as Russia’s grandest theatre, but what people don’t know is that there are many more bolshoi (big) sites in Moscow that are worth travelling all the way to Moscow to see. For more than 100 years, the world’s biggest bell has been hidden behind the Kremlin’s walls and inside Moscow’s main park (which is bigger than some countries!) there is the world’s largest outdoor ice-rink. Travelers that visit Moscow can stay at the Izmailovo, Europe’s biggest hotel, then eat at the largest and most historic McDonald’s in Europe and after that have fun at the largest European indoor theme park!

Ancient Past & Stunning Architecture:

As those who travel to Moscow will see, just because Moscow is a city of record-breaking, glitzy high-rises doesn’t mean that there is no history. On the famous Arbat street, time-worn, wooden storehouses and century-old churches are squashed up against grey, soviet blocks which are then towered over by 21st century office-blocks. Unlike its much younger sibling, St Petersburg, Moscow’s roots stretch way back to the 12th century. Within the walls of the Kremlin, the city’s oldest building the Cathedral of Assumption can be admired in all its 500+ years of age.

Culture & Convenience

For a foreigner who has never visited Russia, Moscow is the perfect stepping stone into this great land of mystery. From the country’s best classical ballet troupes to snow-white troikas trotting through the parks, all the highlights of Russian culture can be had in Moscow without any of the complications that would be expected in other, less developed regions of Russia.

Cheap as Caviar

In Moscow, everything is bargain when with the current foreign exchange rates being what they are. Even caviar doesn’t seem so dear when the exchange rate is at 60rub to the dollar, so go on indulge yourself! Take your 2022 vacation in Moscow and have the best of both worlds, with European luxury at very affordable prices.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

We had a great time both in Moscow and St Petersburg. Your travel agency was excellent in coordinating the whole trip. Everything worked like clockwork. The guides assigned to us were very nice and friendly. They had a great knowledge of their subjects. The cars and the drivers were great. The hotels were good and the itinerary was good. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. It was nice dealing with you and your company. Thank you very much for a great Russian experience. Have a great future ahead

Tour Details

Experience breathtaking Grand Canyon sunset views while touring the South Rim in a custom, enclosed heated  Pink Jeep® Wrangler . Your first stop at Yavapai Point is the perfect introduction to the Grand Canyon. Here, the eons of erosion reveal layer upon layer of sediment. Your local, certified adventure guide  (who is also a Wilderness First Responder) will share the history of the canyon.

Step back in time as you drive by Grand Canyon Village, a historic district that was once a stop for stagecoaches. The Village is home to El Tovar and Hopi House, both of which opened in 1905. As you take in views of this bustling hub, it’s easy to get a sense that you’re sharing the street with pioneers of centuries ago.

Enjoy a short, scenic ride to Hermits Rest. This area and its buildings pay tribute to a prospector who carved a trail into the canyon and later lived near Dripping Springs. Hop out of the Jeep and explore the wonders below on a short hike via a rocky path below the rim.

Along the way, your guide will show you how to find real marine fossils and teach you about the canyon’s ancient origins. You’ll also view the Hermit Rapids and other landmarks, such as the long-abandoned Hermit Camp. The hike is 1-mile roundtrip.

AWC starts its third annual Enrollment Tour

rest tour

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Local high school seniors are receiving a helping hand on their transition to college.

Arizona Western College's (AWC) third annual Enrollment Tour is underway, stopping at Yuma High School on Thursday.

The tour visits high school campuses in the Yuma and La Paz area, providing seniors with resources and orientation to enroll for upcoming summer and fall programs.

AWC says it hopes to expand its horizons and eliminate barriers to obtaining a college degree by meeting students where they are and bringing resources and services to them.

Biridiana Martinez, the Director of Outreach & Recruitment at AWC, says, "A lot of these kids already have a goal in mind, they want to go to college, they want a career, they want an education, so all they need is that extra support and that's what we're here for."

Yanet Lucero, a Counselor at Yuma High School adds, "Instead of not knowing what I want to do, it gives them an opportunity to research everything that AWC has to offer"

For more information about AWC enrollment visit https://www.azwestern.edu/admissions .

Masters picks, predictions & odds: best bets & bonuses for augusta in 2024, share this article.

The Masters Tournament is the crown jewel of golf, the first major of the season, and the premier bucket-list victory for golfer who’s ever pulled out a 7-iron from 200 yards out. The 2024 Masters Tournament tees off on Thursday from Augusta National, featuring 89 golfers including the best of the best from the PGA and LIV tours, and we have assembled out best 2024 Masters picks and expert predictions to help guide you.

Scottie Scheffler is the huge favorite to win at +450 in 2024 Masters odds. Rory McIlroy (+1100),  Jon Rahm (+1100), Xander Schauffele (+1600) and Brooks Koepka (+1800) are considered the other top contenders at golf betting sites . All eyes will also be on Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau, marquee names teeing off on Thursday.

Bookies.com veteran golf handicapper Adam Thompson has revealed his top Masters picks, and we have included some of the top Masters betting promos .

2024 Masters Picks & Predictions | Best Masters Bets

Note:   Bettors in the Tar Heel State can now access special  North Carolina sportsbook promos  as  North Carolina sports betting launched in March.

Jon Rahm, To Win (+1100) and Top 10 (+115)

Scottie Scheffler is the prohibitive favorite at sports betting apps for good reason, but there are other viable contenders at much-better odds. That includes Rahm, who won the Green Jacket last year by four strokes. He’s finished in the top 10 in five of his last six Masters starts.

Rahm is long off the tee and a premier putter – his 2024 stats rank him in the top 10 in both categories in the field – and he’s obviously going to be fine handling any pressure that comes over the weekend. Among the heavyweights in the field, Rahm is the one we’re backing at Caesars Sportsbook and is one of our best Masters picks. You can sign up for the Caesars Sportsbook promo code below and get a $1,000 first-bet offer.

Nick Dunlap, To Win (+35000), Top 10 (+2000), Top 20 (+650)

Dunlap is just 20, he just turned pro, and first-time Masters golfers don’t win it (Fuzzy Zoeller was the last to do it, in 1979). But Dunlap is different. He was top-ranked junior golfer in the Class of 2022, and the top-ranked amateur golfer in the world after he won the American Express Championship in January to become the first amateur to win a PGA event in 33 years (Phil Mickelson).

In his short time on the Tour, he ranks No. 1 in fewest puts, No. 2 in Par-5 Scoring and Top 10 in driving distance – all key attributes to own at Augusta. He’s had just one other Top 40 finish in six starts, so he’s a big-time dark horse, but the value is too much to pass up. If you’re going to take a lottery ticket to win, here’s the one when making your 2024 Masters picks.

And if you sign up with the DraftKings promo code below and place any $5 bet, you will score six $25 bonus bets instantly – and can place one on these amazing odds!

Wyndham Clark, Top 10 (+300)

Another first-timer at the Masters; however, Clark has played the course four times prior (just not at The Masters), and he’s in the midst of his best run as a pro. In eight starts, the 30-year-old has three top-two finishes and only one missed cut.

Among the other pros in the field, Clark ranks in the top 3 in both driving distance and par-5 scoring – par 5’s is where the contenders get red numbers on their scorecards. He won the U.S. Open last year, and while he gets dinged for being a first-timer, he has the tools for finish near the top.

When sorting through our expert Masters predictions, we found this to be a Masters pick to back, and if you do it with the BetMGM bonus code offer below, you will get a bonus-bet refund should your first bet lose.

Sam Burns, Top 20 (+190)

Burns is off to a hot start in 2024 with four top-10 finishes, including at Pebble Beach. He missed the cut at his first Masters in 2022, but finished tied for 29th last year. Experience goes a long way on this course, and another jump can be expected here with how he’s played so far this season.

Burns has just one missed cut in eight tournaments and has had his best round on weekend action in all but one event. With a smaller field, Burns just need to make the cut. He’s capable of a backdoor cover and thus is one of our top Masters picks.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Get Loose in Los Angeles

By Ethan Millman

Ethan Millman

Three hours into Bruce Springsteen ‘s epic return to Los Angeles on Thursday night with the E Street Band, he stared down the sold-out crowd at the Forum. “Do you have anything left?” he shouted, midway through “Twist and Shout,” the second-to-last song of his first L.A. show in eight years. Five decades in, the magic of a Springsteen show remains: He always seems to have a little bit left in the tank.

The 2024 version of the tour has been looser than last year’s, which stuck fairly close to a single set list, and Thursday was no exception. Springsteen kicked off with a true rarity, a cover of John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom” (most frequently played on the Tunnel of Love Express Tour back in 1988), before jumping into “Lonesome Day” (rarely played last year, but now a staple in the set) and “Prove It All Night,” then his live -favorite arena-rock reworking of Jimmy Cliff’s “Trapped.”

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Six dates into their return to the road, Springsteen and the E Street Band sounded like they had never been interrupted. “Are you having fun yet? Because we haven’t had fun yet,” Springsteen told the crowd just over an hour into his show. “This is our pre-fun. We’re here to wake you up, shake you up, and take you to higher ground. The E Street Band is here to bring the joyous power of rock & roll into your life. But we need your help. We plan on sending you home with your feet hurting, your hands hurting, your ass in paralysis, and your sexual organs stimulated.”

Springsteen maintains a remarkably simple setup and show presentation compared to the other blockbuster live shows currently on the road. The visuals are limited to video screens and elegant stage lights, keeping the focus on the 17 musicians onstage with him. He doesn’t really need much else.

Jeremy Allen White Close to Playing Bruce Springsteen in 'Nebraska'-Era Biopic

Bruce springsteen jokes about his postponed tour on 'curb your enthusiasm', don omar cements his legacy with 'back to reggaeton' show in l.a., norm macdonald was the hater o.j. simpson could never outrun, rfk jr. campaign fires staffer who said the quiet part out loud, senate dems finally subpoena supreme court puppetmaster, jojo siwa is trying too hard to shock us.

From there, the show was all joy and catharsis, with an unbroken string of hits and live favorites, beginning with Nils Lofgren’s jaw-dropping guitar virtuosity on “Because the Night,” and inevitably reaching “Thunder Road” and “Born to Run.” As he has throughout the tour, Springsteen finished the show alone with his meditation on life after death, “I’ll See You in My Dreams.”

Springsteen and the E Street Band will play another Forum show on Sunday.

2024 Texas Open leaderboard, grades: Akshay Bhatia nets second PGA Tour win, last Masters invite in playoff

T here was nothing stress-free about Akshay Bhatia's victory at the 2024 Texas Open despite how most of the week looked. Kickstarting his week with a 9-under 63 on Thursday, the lengthy left hander went wire-to-wire at TPC San Antonio for a playoff victory over Denny McCarthy at 20 under. By doing so, Bhatia became the third youngest winner to go wire-to-wire on the PGA Tour since 1983 behind Rory McIlroy at the 2011 U.S. Open and Jordan Spieth at the 2015 Masters.

Speaking of the Masters, Bhatia's victory marks his second in as many years, and it comes at a rather opportune time. Earning the final invitation into the 2024 Masters, the 22-year-old will drive down Magnolia Lane for the first time in his professional career and tee it up in only his second major championship. Bhatia's Masters debut comes a decade after qualifying and playing in the first-ever Drive, Chip and Putt competition at Augusta National.

Not only has Bhatia earned his chance to vie for the green jacket next week, he has solidified his playing privileges on the PGA Tour through the 2026 season. Bhatia will tee it up at the PGA Championship as well as the remaining signature events on the PGA Tour schedule.

"I just stuck to my game plan," Bhatia said. "I played great today. I kind of got the goal in mind today. Denny played unbelievable. You got to give him credit. It's hard because he's one of the best putters out here, and when you see him get hot, it's scary. I had a six-shot lead going into the back nine, and then all of sudden, we are tied going into 18 and then of course he makes that putt. Man, what a crazy crazy day."

Bhatia began the final round at TPC San Antonio in possession of a four-stroke lead -- tying Jake Knapp for the largest 54-hole margin this season. The lead grew to five with a birdie immediately out the gate and was pushed to half a dozen when Bhatia added his third birdie of the round on No. 4.

McCarthy attempted to apply some pressure on the front, but it proved ineffective as Bhatia went to the inward half with his six-stroke lead still intact. A punch finally landed on No. 10 when McCarthy connected from distance for his second birdie of the day and Bhatia failed to get up-and-down from long of the green cutting his lead to four. The drama ensued from there.

After making par on the 11th, McCarthy went unconscious and left Bhatia defenseless. Birdie after birdie came from the blade of McCarthy as he rattled off six in a row and within a blink of an eye, Bhatia's lead of six was cut to zero as the two men stood on the tee at the par-5 18th.

Both facing roughly 12-foot birdie bids, both connected and unleashed fist pumps after both players reached 20 under -- nine clear of McIlroy in third place. McCarthy's final putt in regulation was his 92nd of the week tying a PGA Tour record for fewest amounts of putts in a tournament while Bhatia's made waves for a completely different reason.

Popping his shoulder out of his socket during his celebration, Bhatia called upon the services of his physiotherapist on the first playoff hole. With his ball in the fairway, Bhatia watched as McCarthy approached his third and chunked his wedge into the creek protecting the putting surface.

After getting his shoulder taped, Bhatia stepped to his and safely found the putting surface to all but secure his second PGA Tour victory and a trip to the Masters.

"This is awesome," Bhatia said. "It's hard to win out here as it showed today. My mom's birthday was on April 1, and her wish was to get in the Masters. I'm hoping I make her proud." Grade: A+

Here are the grades for the rest of the notables on the leaderboard at the 2024 Texas Open

3. Rory McIlroy (-11): Oh boy, here we go again. It was an ideal last start for McIlroy ahead of the Masters as he fired a final-round 66 and got the big numbers out of his system. Adhering to the swing advice of Butch Harmon, McIlroy made a conscious effort to eliminate the quick, aggressive left miss and took a huge step in the right direction in terms of his iron play. He ranked third in strokes gained approach thanks to gaining nearly four with his scoring clubs on Sunday alone. Grade: A

"I definitely feel like I'm in a better place than I was a few weeks ago," McIlroy said. "Through the Florida swing, there was just a lot of volatility in my game, some good, some bad, quite a few big numbers, so just trying to tidy that up. For me, I'm always going to be able to hit good shots, it's just how bad the bad ones are, and this week the bad ones were still in play and no too bad, and I was able to scramble well enough when I did hit a few poor ones. Again, overall much more pleased with where my game is compared to two or three weeks ago."

T7. Hideki Matsuyama (-8): The 2021 Masters champion is red hot. Matsuyama's last four starts now read: Win, T12, T6, T7. He was once again brilliant from tee to green -- ranking inside the top 20 in each metric -- but did not get as much as he would have liked out of the putter ranking first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around the green and with his ball striking in tow, Matsuyama has to be on the short list of players who can win next week.  Grade: A-

T10. Jordan Spieth (-6): This week featured just about everything from Spieth -- a hole-in-one, a gutter ball, plenty of birdies and plenty of mistakes. It all added up to a 6-under total for his first top-10 finish since the WM Phoenix Open and put an end to a mini dip in form. Spieth was insistent that his game was close on Thursday, and he flashed glimpses of what may be to come at Augusta National. He's driving the ball great (ranked fourth in strokes gained off tee), and his iron play was much sharper. Surprisingly, his short game has been rather meh in his last three starts, but that should change sooner rather than later. Grade: B

T24. Max Homa (-4): After opening with a 3-under 69, Homa got stuck in the mud and played his next 54 holes in only 1 under. He came into this week needing to answer questions around his driver and he did just that with a couple really solid rounds from off the tee. His iron play is in a comfy spot, and it will need to continue to be if he expects to contend at the Masters for the first time in his career. Grade: C+

T75. Collin Morikawa (+5): Is it time to press the panic button on Morikawa? The two-time major champion made the cut on the number and wasn't able to do much with the opportunity finishing near the bottom of the weekend pack. Morikawa has now lost strokes on approach in three straight tournaments and hasn't clocked a top-five finish since the first week of the year at The Sentry. Without his iron play, Morikawa looks very (very) average. Grade: D

we dıd the bus tour ıt was also very nıce. ı recomend to everyone ıf they have tıme . do hiking from south rim south kaibap tour. and second day do bus tour. 2 day ıs not enought that great nature fortune. but our day ıs lımıted . we wıll go there agaın.

Don't waste time here. Most people got off to go to the restaurant. Views of Colorado River much better on previous stops. Such as Mohave and Hopi. Keep in mind it's best to get off bus ON THE way to Hermits Rest as the buses fill up on way back. Most people who get on at hermits rest go directly back to village leaving no room for others at middle stops on return.

Beautiful views. Great start to the long hike around the rim. I only wish there had been running water to wash up after using the restroom.

rest tour

The wind was ever present, the sun played hide and seek behind a partly cloudy skies and provided interesting shadows on the Canyon walls. It was a balmy 72F. The crowd was light.

End of bus run great spot to start your hike. So beautiful not much food. Alittle gift shop, bathroom. Diffently go

I have hiked many of the trails in the park and also "run the river". and always reflect that the rim hike trail is one of my favorites. The reason is that it gives your a panoramic perspective on the canyon with its many hues and shadows. Here is what I suggest- head west on the trail in the village (in our case, Bright Angel Lodge), and towards Hermits Rest- the final shuttle stop, It is a total of about 8 miles. Most of the trail is paved and is reserved for walkers only (cyclists have a different route). The grade is fairly flat and while it follows the road, there are many times that the road is obscured. Every mile or so there is a shuttle stop...note that not all of them have two -direction pickup back to the village (stops that do are Pima Point, Mohave Point, and Powell Point). In any case, you can ride to Hermits and return the opposite direction if you settle on any stops besides the ones mentioned. The further you walk toward Hermits, the thinner the crowds will be. The incredible views change with different vantage points including places where you can see parts of the river. Some nice places to sit along the way. I am amazed how many people never see these views of the canyon since it is pretty easy access. Enjoy! Take lots of water and sunscreen...there is no water on the trail until you get to Hermit's Rest.

Aerosmith announces rescheduled ‘Peace Out’ tour dates as Steven Tyler recovers from vocal chord injury

rest tour

By Alli Rosenbloom, CNN

(CNN) — Nearly seven months after Aerosmith was forced to postpone their “Peace Out” farewell tour, the band is heading back out on the road this fall.

The rockers wrote that they’re “thrilled” to announce the rescheduled dates for the tour in an Instagram post on the band’s official page on Wednesday.

The tour will kick off in Pittsburgh, PA on September 20 and will run through February 26 of next year, when they’ll play their final show in Buffalo, NY. The Black Crowes will return as Aerosmith’s special guests along the tour.

In September 2023, the band announced that Steven Tyler, Aerosmith’s famed lead singer, has suffered a vocal chord injury in a statement posted to Aerosmith’s Facebook page. As a result, they postponed the rest of their 2023 “Peace Out” farewell tour dates after playing only three shows.

“To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care,” the statement read.

“I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world,” Tyler wrote in a personal note to his fans at the time. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”

The rescheduled 40-date North American tour is billed as both a celebration of Aerosmith’s 50 years together and as the band’s final touring farewell.

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows, according to the band’s post on Wednesday, and tickets will go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. in the purchaser’s timezone.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — More than golf’s first major championship of the year, the Masters represents unification. This is the first time since July at the British Open the best players regardless of their tours compete against each other — same course, same tournament, same television network.

“I believe everyone agrees there’s excitement in the air this week,” Masters Chairman Fred Ridley said Wednesday. “The best players in the world are together once again.”

Still unclear at Augusta National is for how much longer.

Saudi-funded LIV Golf has 13 players at the Masters, seven of them former champions who can play as long as they want. That’s down from 18 a year ago. Only nine LIV players are assured of being back to Augusta National next year, depending on how they fare in the majors this year.

Ridley offered little hope the pathway for LIV to Augusta National was about to get wider.

He said the Official World Golf Ranking was a “legitimate determiner” of the best in golf, bad news for a rival league that does not get world ranking points. And while the Masters annually reviews its criteria for invitations, Ridley announced no new changes.

Instead, he leaned on the Masters being an invitational, and the club alone decides who it deems worthy of getting that elegant, cream-colored invitation in the mail.

“If we felt that there were a player or players, whether they played on the LIV Tour or any other tour, who were deserving of an invitation to the Masters, we would exercise that discretion with regard to special invitations,” Ridley said.

The battle is for a green jacket, but that might not be the only competition.

It will be difficult to look at a leaderboard without considering who is with LIV Golf. That much hasn’t changed from last year — the first Masters since LIV was launched — and LIV certainly showed the 54-hole, no-cut league didn’t affect them. Three players were among the top four on the final leaderboard.

And just like last year, there is no animosity inside the ropes.

Phil Mickelson and Joaquin Niemann from LIV Golf played a practice round with Akshay Bhatia, the final player into the field because of his Texas Open victory last week. Xander Schauffele told of running into Dustin Johnson and the two decided to play a practice round, no different from what would have happened long before LIV began luring away players with guaranteed riches.

But the future remains murky.

Augusta National and the other three organizations that run majors have seats on the OWGR board that reviewed LIV’s application to join and get world ranking points. The vote was unanimous not to award points until certain enhancements were met.

LIV eventually decided to withdraw its application , and several players decried the world ranking as no longer relevant.

It is to Ridley and the Masters. The top 50 at the end of the year and a week before the Masters still get invitations. Bryson DeChambeau said the majors, including the Masters, should invite the top 12 from the LIV points list.

Ridley wasn’t buying that.

“I think it will be difficult to establish any type of point system that had any connection to the rest of the world of golf because they’re basically — not totally, but for the most part — a closed shop,” Ridley said. “There is some relegation, but not very much.

“But I don’t think that prevents us from giving subjective consideration based on talent, based on performance to those players.”

That’s what led Augusta National to offer an invitation to Niemann. The club did not cite anything he did on LIV — the Chilean has two LIV wins this year — but his willingness to travel outside LIV and win the Australian Open, along with a top finish in the Australian PGA.

Talor Gooch did not get an invitation. He won three LIV events last year and later suggested Rory McIlroy would have an asterisk next to his name if he won the Masters because all the best aren’t there.

Gooch is unlikely to be missed, not with Scottie Scheffler going for a second green jacket, with McIlroy chasing the career Grand Slam, Tiger Woods playing for only the second time this year and a host of others from all tours chasing one of golf’s most prized possessions.

And then the PGA Tour will head to Hilton Head and LIV Golf will make its way to Australia, and they all have to wait until the next major May 16-19 at the PGA Championship.

“There’s a lot of people a lot smarter than me that could figure this out in a much more efficient way,” Jon Rahm said. “But the obvious answer is that there’s got to be a way for certain players in whatever tour to be able to earn their way in. That’s the only thing can I say. I don’t know what that looks like. But there’s got to be a fair way for everybody to compete.”

All the times Zendaya served looks on the ‘Challengers’ press tour

rest tour

By Leah Asmelash, CNN

(CNN) — Zendaya has always aced the red carpet. But her latest press tour is, well, a grand slam.

In recent weeks, the actor has been promoting her new movie “Challengers,” in which she plays a tennis star-turned-coach who must navigate her husband’s career on the courts as he prepares to face his former best friend (and her ex-boyfriend).

And as has become perhaps all-too-expected, her looks have been a symbiotic mix of “method dressing” and personal style — from campy details like tennis balls on her heels to elegant pleated gowns that call to mind classic tennis whites. Zendaya is also on the cover of both American and British “Vogue,” though neither of the magazine’s shoots delved too deeply into the sportswear space.

“We are constantly trying to be inspired by the film, whether that be literally — like this morning, I had tennis balls in my shoes — or more just the essence of a character, or a concept, or an idea,” Zendaya said of the visual storytelling she and her long-term “image architect” Law Roach have sought to achieve in her interview with US Vogue .

Onlookers have come to expect this attention to detail from the duo. Earlier this year, for example, while touring for “Dune: Part Two,” Zendaya’s looks consistently paid homage to the film and its sci-fi dystopia — most notably, she stepped out in an archival (and yet inherently futuristic) Thierry Mugler space suit at the movie’s London premiere.

“What she allows me to do is to come up with the big story, the big idea, and she takes that and she whittles it down a bit,” Roach told British Vogue .

Scroll to see Zendaya’s best looks from the “Challengers” press tour. This gallery will continue to be updated.

During the “Dune: Part Two,” press tour, Zendaya’s co-stars, including Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson and Timothée Chalamet, matched her commitment to the sartorial ‘bit’ with their own red carpet wardrobes . But for “Challengers,” actors Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist have played things a little safer, for the most part in the slouchy menswear suiting space. That’s with one subtle exception, however: At the film’s London premiere, O’Connor wore under his suit jacket a white T-shirt with the phrase “I TOLD YA” printed front and center, a nod to a piece Zendaya’s character Tashi wears in the movie.

At the Rome premiere two days earlier, the fashion designer (and Loewe creative director) Jonathan Anderson — who designed many looks in the movie — had also worn a version of the tee.

AOL cofounder Steve Case is betting $150 million that the future of startups isn't in Silicon Valley or New York, but the money isn't what's making his prediction come true

Better Capitalism

  • AOL's billionaire cofounder Steve Case runs the DC-based venture capital firm Revolution .
  • Case is convinced that the future of American startups lies outside of Silicon Valley, New York City, and Boston, which receive 75% of all venture capital in the US.
  • Since 2014, he has gone on seven " Rise of the Rest " bus tours to encourage entrepreneurship across the country, for a total of 38 cities outside of the three main VC centers.
  • Late last year, he launched the $150 million Rise of the Rest Seed Fund and put " Hillbilly Elegy " author and former Valley investor JD Vance in charge. It includes limited partners like Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Bridgewater's Ray Dalio.
  • While the investments are considerable, the factor that's making the biggest impact on entrepreneurs in smaller cities is the relationships Case facilitates.
  • This article is part of Business Insider's ongoing series on Better Capitalism .

Insider Today

At 9:50 on a Friday morning in May, I was on a bright red bus with a billionaire investor, a celebrity author, and the governor of Kentucky.

I had joined Steve Case and his venture capital firm, Revolution, for a 12-hour day of touring Louisville, culminating in a pitch contest that's was like a condensed, and significantly kinder, version of "Shark Tank" with a $100,000 prize.

Case, 59, is the billionaire cofounder and former CEO of AOL. Since 2005, he's led more than $1 billion in startup investments through Washington, DC-based Revolution. He's always been primarily interested in investing outside of the three main entrepreneurial centers — Silicon Valley, New York City, and Boston — but in the past four years he's defined and concentrated his efforts on what he calls the "Rise of the Rest."

As the person behind the first iconic internet company, Case is now attempting to become a power broker of the next major wave of innovation in the United States, and he's already made significant progress.

Case has used his DC location to its potential, lobbying for startup-friendly laws like the JOBS Act of 2012 and working on President Barack Obama's jobs council in 2011. It was around this time that he became convinced the modern world was approaching a massive technological and societal shift, and that if the US didn't get ahead of it, its citizens and economy would fall behind. The entrepreneurial hegemony of the Valley was a construct whose purpose was wearing thin.

It was time for other cities across the country, many only just emerging from depressed or stagnant economies, to take advantage of the so-called "Internet of Things" becoming the "Internet of Everything;" the shift from novelties like app-controlled light bulbs to industry-transforming developments like new methods of collecting livestock and crop data.

Case decided that he was not only going to bet his money on this upcoming shift, he was going to do whatever he could to usher it in. He would show Americans that startup culture shouldn't be reserved for the coastal elites, and he'd do it in a way that grabbed the public's attention.

Case and his team rented a luxury coach bus, wrapped it in a custom full-body sticker with "Rise of the Rest" logos, and kicked off a four-day tour from Detroit in 2014. Case made use of his connections and clout to include the mayor, governor, and his friend Dan Gilbert , founder of Quicken Loans and major real estate developer. The day included visits to new startups in the "rising" city and ended with a startup pitch contest with a $100,000 prize from Case's pocket. The day received local coverage and provided a rough idea of what could work, but it was fairly lowkey relative to what it would become.

When I was in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Louisville, Kentucky this past May for the final two stops on the seventh Rise of the Rest tour, upwards of 600 members of the public attended each of the pitch competitions. Despite the lighthearted fanfare, the tours were treated with the utmost seriousness. Local political leadership and entrepreneurs alike were not only advocating for specific companies, but were using the day to explain to a bus-load of influential investors why their hometown deserved as much respect and recognition as any of the big three VC markets.

It was also the first tour to draw from the $150 million Rise of the Rest Seed Fund. Instead of using only his personal wealth, Case was now working with a sum gathered from almost 40 of the most prominent investors in the country, including Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio . He put JD Vance, a former Valley investor best known for his hugely successful memoir, " Hillbilly Elegy ," in charge of the fund.

I had known of the influence Case had as an investor and that his portfolio proved he truly believed in this notion of the "Rise of the Rest," but I was still skeptical about the bus tours. I wondered if they were anything more than a vanity project, a collection of photos and videos with a decent check attached, but not one that was going to uplift a community.

After spending two days on the bus tour and talking with dozens of locals in both cities I visited, it became clear that Case is tapping into something with a lot of momentum. A decked-out bus and a camera crew is a spectacle, sure, but that's the point. These bus tours and pitch contests aren't going to magically transform cities overnight, but they're giving these communities a publicity boost to ride out, and, more importantly, a network that now includes 38 cities across 26 states, and contains some of the most influential business people, politicians, and academics in the country.

It remains to be seen if this seed fund is going to yield the big returns Case and his team are looking for. The first three years of the Rise of the Rest, where Case used his own money, were somewhat of a beta test for this larger initiative which, in addition to the bus tours, will also include a total of 20 annual investments.

Regardless of how the fund performs, Case and his team have already convinced thousands of Americans that their startups and their cities can thrive, and that's leading to them build things they never would have otherwise.

Bringing the bus to town

That morning in May, when I was on the bus in Louisville, Case was uncharacteristically quiet, checking his itinerary and notes as conversation swirled around him. Normally, he speaks in a low register at an energetic pace, his sentences often bleeding into each other. In the time I spent on the tour, he seemed inexhaustible, despite the week's relentless schedule.

But right then, he was overshadowed by Vance, who was leaning across the aisle to chat with Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin.

Vance, who built his public image on overcoming struggles with poverty while growing up in Ohio and Kentucky, helps bring attention to the Rise of the Rest initiative through the star power he gained from his massive bestseller — I even saw Bevin ask for his autograph. Vance lights up in one-on-one conversations, and throughout the tour, I saw guests approach Vance to tell him about their projects.

Case, Vance, and the team start their tour days on tour at around 7 a.m. and go for 12 hours. That morning, we were leaving behind an outdoor breakfast at the Angel's Envy distillery, where Bevin, Mayor Greg Fischer, and Senator Rand Paul spoke about the need to accelerate entrepreneurship in Louisville (and, in the case of Paul, announce he would vote against confirming Gina Haspel to lead the CIA). Case believes strongly that alliances with state, local, and federal government will be essential for the growth of rising startup communities over the next few decades, and Revolution has consistently initiated these conversations in each of its Rise of the Rest stops.

From there, we drove around the city, meeting seasoned entrepreneurs with fast-growing companies, novice founders with new startups, and local power brokers.

Case and Vance often split up at these stops, each taking about half of the bus group. Each visit has elements for the cameras — in Louisville, we visited an axe-throwing facility that provided plenty of photo ops — but the Revolution investors, like the guests they invite, are constantly taking notes on potential new investments or partnerships.

A day earlier, as we toured Branch Technology's robotics factory in Chattanooga, I noticed Rise of the Rest partner Mary Grove grab Case's attention and quietly chat as they closely watched a 3D printer create a complex grid. Later, I asked Case what he and Grove were discussing. He said that at each stop, he and his team make sure to highlight great businesses and initiatives for local and national media, but they're also looking for the best company to put their money in. Case believed that Branch was good enough to represent its city in the press, but he and Grove needed to know if it would fit in the Rise of the Rest portfolio. Case told me this approach to impact investing is like "building a model home."

"We want great returns for the fund but we also want to showcase the companies to others," he said, explaining that they want the companies they invest in to symbolize the unique opportunities in that specific region.

In Louisville, our last stop was at the Speed Museum's auditorium, a beautiful glass-encased space where several hundred people arrived for conversations about their city and a competition.

And in the same way that the 12-hour day is the result of four months of planning by Revolution partner Anna Mason, the series of seven or eight four-minute pitches the team deliberated for about 15 minutes each at that night's pitch contest came after careful due diligence done prior to the tour.

One of Louisville's predominant industries is healthcare, and the medical device company InScope Medical took home the prize. The previous night in Chattanooga, the winner was FreightWaves, a data analytics and media company for freight trucking that takes advantage of its founder and CEO Craig Fuller's family connection to Chattanooga's robust freight industry, one of the biggest in the country.

A few days after winning, Fuller announced on FreightWaves' site the $100,000 would go toward educational grants or relocation fees for new talent, depending on what was needed. "An investment of that size is not going to move the needle for the city unless it's directly invested in encouraging job and economic growth in the region," Fuller wrote, noting that his goal is to make FreightWaves — which expects $13 million in revenue this year and, following the tour, closed a $15.75 million Series A round — Tennessee's first company worth $1 billion.

Although not every city's winner so neatly links the city's tradition with a startup moving it into the future, it was not at all a coincidence that both of these companies represented that.

Related stories

"I see what's going on in the next wave of innovation, the next wave of technological change, as really depending on things that places like Chattanooga are good at, as opposed to the things that Silicon Valley are good at," Vance told the audience at the Chattanooga breakfast event. It's about changing a community's perception of itself, so that it can both play to its strengths and retain young talent that would otherwise flee. He said he and Mason passionately agree that "folks should not try to brand themselves as the Silicon 'X' of their particular area." What makes these Rise of the Rest cities great, he explained, is that they're building on a legacy of connections and expertise in areas the Valley simply can't.

The country is bigger than three states

After just two days with the Revolution team, I had memorized Case's talking points that he brings to every speech. They explain the reason he's doing all of this in the first place.

A full 75% of venture capital in the United States goes to three states: California, New York, and Massachusetts. Half of all venture capital goes to Silicon Valley alone. That's data gathered by CB Insights, which also found that a minuscule 1% of all this VC money goes to black entrepreneurs. And regardless of race, the vast majority of founders funded are male. If the US wants to remain the most entrepreneurial nation in the world, and it should want to, says Case, then these figures must change.

Fostering these diverse startup communities, he continues, will then drive job growth that will benefit entire cities. Case cites a 2014 Kauffman Foundation report that says startups account for a full half of all new job creation in the US.

Case details his vision further in his 2016 book, " The Third Wave ," using two borrowed phrases he's reinterpreted. The title is one of those phrases, coming from futurist Alvin Toffler's identically titled book from 1980 about how the shift to the "Information Age" is the third most significant transformation in all human history. Case uses it specifically to refer to the third wave of the internet, which has just begun.

The first wave, he argues, lasted from 1985 to the popping of the online bubble in 1999, and was about establishing a foundation based around PCs. It's the environment in which his company AOL thrived. The second wave lasted from 2000-2015 and was about developing search, social media, and ecommerce. It led to the ubiquity of the smartphone. The third wave began just a couple years ago, and is about "the internet of everything," where virtually every aspect of our life will have an online component, to the point where internet connectivity will no longer be seen as a perk.

This is where "the rise of the rest" fits in. That, by the way, is borrowed from the subtitle of journalist Fareed Zakaria's 2008 book " The Post-American World ." Zakaria was referring to China and India, but Case uses it to represent cities that aren't New York City, Boston, or in the Bay Area.

Case argues that the companies that will thrive in the Third Wave will not benefit from being in a tech ecosystem, despite using cutting-edge technology. These companies will be in industries that are often highly regulated, like healthcare and agriculture, and will not be scrappy startups setting out to disrupt industries from the outside; rather, they will succeed through partnerships with established leaders and institutions.

"It may make sense, for example, for a company that wants to revolutionize the agricultural industry to settle in the Midwest, where the right supply chains already exist and the culture of farmers is best understood," Case wrote in his book. "A company that wants to disrupt the healthcare industry might find that doing it in Nashville or Baltimore, both of which have developed vibrant healthcare sectors, might make more sense than doing it from Palo Alto or New York City."

These "rising" cities Case identifies typically have young startup scenes, and some, like the one in Chattanooga, emerged after years of economic struggle began to fade. He saw firsthand the power of startups on communities when AOL sparked the creation of a previously barren tech corridor in northern Virginia.

So far, Case has invested about $3.5 million in the winners of the seven Rise of the Rest bus tour pitch competitions. Until this past tour, Case invested from his personal wealth. In addition to the five Rise of the Rest Seed Fund investments made during May's tour, there have been 30 others from the fund.

Revolution would not disclose indicators of performance for its fund. However, Amazon purchased Partpic (for an undisclosed amount) a year after it won a 2015 competition in Atlanta, and Omaha winner LifeLoop told Silicon Prairie News last December it had grown its customer reach fivefold in the year since its Rise of the Rest investment to serving 100 communities across 20 states. As shown by the Chattanooga and Louisville examples, some of the Rise of the Rest investments are just starting to build momentum, while others, like FreightWaves, are already scaling.

The Rise of the Rest Seed Fund is one of three funds at Revolution, and Case and his team don't see it as operating in a vacuum.

"So $150 million in the great scheme of things is not a huge fund — we get that," Case told me earlier this year. "But if we, in fact, are on average doing 10% of rounds, we're really helping catalyze, mobilize, more like $1.5 billion of capital. And then if we have this group of investors who are well-positioned to write $50 million checks down the road, hopefully it ends up being many billions of capital that gets unleashed here."

Megan Smith, President Barack Obama's former CTO and the founder and CEO of startup accelerator Shift7, joined the fund as an LP in February and was in Chattanooga. She told me that her work in the White House proved to her that Case's thesis is correct, and that not only are Case and his team well-respected among investors, "They're doing the leg work for them," by discovering and cultivating talent in markets that could potentially benefit their portfolios and corporations. She's most excited by the way both the entrepreneurs and investors can leverage the Rise of the Rest network, and, as an MIT board member, she connected Branch Technologies to the MIT Media Lab, even though it didn't take home the 100 grand the day it competed.

"These are national scale, maybe even global scale companies," Case told me, referring to highlights of the last tour, even beyond those in the competitions. "They just happen to be in Louisville, they happen to be in Chattanooga, so they shouldn't just have regional ambitions. They can go the distance."

Setting out in 1804

In June of 2016, Case spent a day in Louisville in a hybrid book tour-bus tour trip arranged by Chuck Denny, the regional president of PNC who oversees Greater Louisville and is in charge of developing the market and establishing his bank's visibility. Denny, who got his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville in 1975 and his MBA from there in 1980, has made it part of his mission at the bank to improve his beloved hometown as much as possible. Denny had actually been a guest for the Nashville day of the first bus tour, back in 2014.

Denny accompanied Case to the tarmac where Case's private jet was parked, and the Revolution founder's words were so inspirational and the scene so dramatic that Denny kept a photograph of it in his office for inspiration.

"You have one of everything here," Case told Denny. "But it's scattered. It needs to be in one place to be easier for the entrepreneurs to access, and to have this density." Case explained that Louisville would benefit greatly from an entrepreneur center like the one they have in Nashville.

"I called it my John Wayne moment," Denny told me, laughing. "He imparts this wisdom on us, and then he rides off."

Just over a year later, the 1804 entrepreneurship center opened, named after the year Meriwether Lewis and William Clark set out from Louisville on their famous expedition.

It ended up being a key stop on the 2018 bus tour, concluding a chapter in a story that captures the effectiveness of the Rise of the Rest tours: how relationships can enact significant change.

Denny first invited Case to Louisville in 2016 because he was on the first bus tour, at the invitation of Michael Burcham, the founder and CEO of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center (the same one 1804 is modeled on). From that visit came the advice that built 1804, which then led to Denny mobilizing his network to successfully lobby for Louisville to be the first Rise of the Rest city to get a second bus tour. Now, that second tour is already helping 1804 grow.

Brit Fitzpatrick, who runs 1804's business development, told me that she and the rest of 1804's leadership are focused on fostering diversity in greater Louisville's entrepreneur community and opening up access to capital by educating founders about taking investments and connecting them to investors.

The Rise of the Rest tour, even though it lasted just 12 hours, already helped move both of those agendas forward in a significant way, Fitzpatrick told me.

Case said that he and the Rise of the Rest team deliberately find diverse candidates for the pitch competitions, and work with local leaders to invite organizations specifically empowering groups like female entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs of color to be part of the tour. He told a story at 1804 about how in one of the tour's earliest stops, there was an event where only white men were in attendance, and he's avoided having that happen again.

Fitzpatrick said that the day in Louisville helped "bring people to the conversation who weren't typically there."

She told me this networking element was by far the most valuable aspect of the tour. And while she said she's not yet at liberty to share details, she's already working on partnerships started from conversations she had on the bus that will launch later this year.

"If there's nothing else I've learned from entrepreneurship, and probably business in general, it's that it all comes down to relationships," Fitzpatrick said, "and I don't know of any experience that facilitates those more strategically than the Revolution team."

A shocking video captured Hamas’ top political leader Ismail Haniyeh barely reacting to the news that his three sons and four grandchildren have been killed in an Israeli airstrike — and insisting that he continue with the tour he was on of a hospital.

Haniyeh, 61, was visiting injured Palestinians at the hospital in Qatar, where he lives in exile, on Wednesday when he got a call from someone saying through sobs in Arabic: “Hazem, Mohammed and Amir have been killed, along with their children.”

Hamas’ tough-talking chief diplomat barely reacts and remains unnervingly calm, only uttering the words: “God rest their souls.”

A shocking video captured Hamas' top political leader Ismail Haniyeh reacting to the news that his three sons and four grandchildren have been killed in an Israeli airstrike.

When an aide asks Haniyeh if they should cut the hospital visit short in light of the tragic development, Haniyeh casually dismisses the idea.

“No, why? Let’s continue,” he says, sounding bizarrely upbeat as he walks to the door.

Haniyeh, who has 13 children, according to Hamas sources, later said in an interview with Al Jazeera that his family members “were martyred on the road to liberating Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

The top Hamas leader’s sons and four grandchildren — three boys and a girl — were riding in a car through Gaza’s Shati refugee camp to visit relatives on the first day of the Eid-al-Fitr holiday when it was hit by an Israeli missile.

Haniyeh, 61, was visiting injured Palestinians at the hospital in Qatar, when he got a call reguarding his children.

The Israeli military confirmed the airstrike, saying that Hanieyeh’s sons were targeted because they were terrorists.

It did not comment on the deaths of the grandchildren, claiming there was “no information on that right now.”

Haniyeh lashed out at Israel, saying it was “driven by the spirit of revenge.”

top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

He said the deaths of his loved ones would not soften Hamas’ stance in the ongoing cease-fire talks with Israel.

“The blood of my sons is not dearer than the blood of our people,” he told Al Jazeera. “The enemy will be delusional if it thinks that targeting my sons, at the climax of the negotiations and before the movement sends its response, will push Hamas to change its position.”

It has since emerged that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out the bombing that annihilated Hanieyeh’s family members allegedly without consulting neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, reported Walla news citing senior officials.

The attack was planned by the IDF and the Shin Bet internal security service, according to the report.
