About Shawn Mendes

GRAMMY nominated Toronto born multi-platinum singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes released his highly anticipated 4th studio album, Wonder, in 2020 to rave reviews.  The album debuted as #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart and in multiple worldwide markets, marking Shawn’s fourth straight #1 album.  In 2019 Shawn was nominated for a GRAMMY for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for “Señorita,” his single with Camila Cabello. In 2018 he released his self-titled platinum album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart as well as multiple worldwide markets. The album became one of the top best-selling album debuts of 2018 and made Shawn the third youngest solo artist to ever have three consecutive #1 albums. Shawn was nominated in two categories for the 61st annual GRAMMY® Awards, including “Song of the Year” for “In My Blood” and “Best Pop Vocal Album” for SHAWN MENDES.  The same year Shawn debuted his certified platinum single, “If I Can’t Have You,” at #1 on iTunes and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With “Señorita” at #1 and “If I Can’t Have You” at #2, Shawn is the first male solo artist ever to simultaneously hold the #1 and #2 place on the Top 40 chart. On his last world tour, he sold out his first ever stadium show in minutes at Rogers Centre in his hometown of Toronto. The tour began in March 2019, with over 100 dates across the UK, Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and Australia/New Zealand.  In April 2017, Shawn released his 3x platinum hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” The track scored Shawn his second #1 single at Top 40 radio and on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, joining his 7x platinum single “Stitches.”  Shawn has nearly 50 Billion global streams and 8.6 billion video views. He topped Billboard’s “21 Under 21” in 2017 and 2018 and has been featured on Forbes “30 Under 30,” Spotify’s “25 Under 25,” and Time Magazine’s “Time 100 Most Influential”. In 2018, ROI Influencer Media recognized Shawn as the #1 Most Influential Artist and #1 Most Influential Teen across all social media platforms. In 2019 Shawn launched The Shawn Mendes Foundation, which seeks to inspire Shawn’s audience, the youth generation of today—to learn about those causes that they are passionate about, and help empower them to use the voice they have to bring change to the world by taking action & giving back.  As part of its ongoing mission, the Foundation provides resources and support to amplify the voices, messages, and platforms of young leaders driving positive change. Shawn Mendes’ world tour is officially canceled after the singer conceded he was not ready to hit the road after the long, COVID-19 pandemic-induced hiatus.

Mendes had previously postponed a “few weeks of shows,” citing a need for a mental break. Wednesday morning, however, he said he needed more time and would have to cancel the rest of the tour.

Shawn Mendes cancels tour dates to prioritize ‘my mental health, first and foremost’

The stress of a world tour has gotten to Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes, who announced he is taking a break to focus on his mental health.

July 9, 2022

“As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being on the road would take on me,” Mendes wrote on his social media accounts. “I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.

“After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally to ground myself and come back stronger,” he continued. “I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe. We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority.”

The Canadian singer-songwriter’s “Wonder: The World” tour kicked off June 27 in Portland, Ore., and was set for Los Angeles on Sept. 9-10. However, on July 8 he posted that he would be taking a three-week break, which ended up preceding the cancellation of the entire tour.

“This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future,” he concluded. “I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal. I love you and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”

When did Shawn Mendes' tour start?

The North American leg of Wonder: The World Tour kicked off in Portland, Oregon on June 27 and was set to end will end in Newark, New Jersey on October 26, 2022. Since Shawn's initial tour announcement, the European leg has been rescheduled until 2023 and the first show is set to take place in Bologna, Italy on May 31, 2023.

Did Shawn Mendes cancel his Wonder tour?

The Mendes Army will have to hold out a little longer to see Shawn on tour. On July 27, 2022, the 23-year-old Toronto native penned a message to fans on Instagram, where he announced the upcoming North American leg has been canceled. "As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn't totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me," he wrote, "I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away."

He reassured fans that although he isn't touring right now, he is still working on new music and plans to release it sometime soon. "I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I've taken the right time to heal," Shawn said.

The announcement comes after Shawn postponed the North American leg of the tour due to his mental health on July 9, 2022. He shared a statement on Instagram with his fans and confirmed that the remainder of the U.S. leg was going to carry on at a later date. "I've been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it's always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family," Shawn wrote before admitting that his decision to hit the road was "premature" and that he's "hit a breaking point" due to the pressures of touring. As a result, he postponed three weeks of shows to take some time to heal.

Which cities is Shawn Mendes playing for Wonder: The World Tour?

After playing in Portland, Shawn is hitting a ton of different cities in the U.S., from St. Paul, Minnesota to Orlando, Florida. He shared the official tour dates on Instagram in December 2021, which also revealed that he'll be joined by special guests Dermot Kennedy and Tate McRae .

As for the European leg of the tour, Shawn's good friend King Princess will be joining him across the pond. Starting in May 2023, they'll be playing cities like Bologna, Barcelona, and Manchester.

What's the setlist for shawn mendes' wonder: the world tour.

The tour just kicked off, and according to Just Jared , Shawn plays 21 songs and one encore . Of course, his biggest hits like "Stitches," "Mercy," and "When You're Gone" are included. See here for the full setlist.

Is Shawn making any sustainability efforts for Wonder: The World Tour?

Yes! His tour is actually changing the game when it comes to reducing our carbon footprint (more on that here ). In a statement released on April 29, Shawn revealed that he and his team are doing their part in taking specific measures to ensure the tour is sustainable. According to a report by Billboard , his tour will reduce its per-show carbon footprint "by implementing simple but effective practices that can be done by both fans and tour crew."

"No plan is perfect, but we see this as a starting point," Shawn said in his statement. "We are in a pivotal moment for climate, and it's crucial to me that this tour is a step in the right direction."

The tour has a goal to reduce emissions and in order to do so, they're offering merchandise with sustainable fabrics and fewer dyes and using energy-efficient lighting and power for the show. When traveling from show to show, the crew's opting for sustainable fuel options and will also be eating food that's sourced from local farms. Any extra food will be composted or donated to the appropriate organizations.

The tour's official website also offers resources for fans so they can carpool or use sustainable transportation to shows.

Shawn Mendes Announces His Return to the Stage and a New Album Nearly 2 Years After Canceling Tour

Shawn Mendes

The singer took to Instagram on Thursday to announced the big news.

Shawn Mendes is stepping back into the spotlight and embracing his return to the stage.

The 25-year-old singer took to Instagram on Thursday to share the exciting news that he's got his comeback all lined up -- first with a headline festival performance and then some brand-new music.

"It's been a really long time since i last played live and I'm so excited to share that I'll be headlining Rock In Rio on Sept 22nd," Mendes wrote in the caption to a black-and-white snapshot of himself shirtless, strumming a guitar. "I've missed being on stage and seeing you all in person so much!"

The singer added, "I've also been working on a new album and i can't wait to play these new songs live for you. See you there. eu te amo!!!!"

The announcement comes just a few days after Mendes made a brief return to the stage for a surprise performance with Niall Horan in London.

Horan, 30, was playing a stop on The Show: Live on Tour, and shocked fans when he called on the "Stitches" artist to join him.

"Welcome to the stage, my little big brother, Shawn Mendes," Horan declared as the audience went absolutely wild over the unexpected guest.

Together, the pair performed a duet rendition of Mendes' hit single "Treat You Better," and Horan celebrated the appearance with a hearty "That’s my boy!" as Mendes exited after the number.

The news of Mendes headlining Rock in Rio comes nearly two years after he  canceled his planned world tour in 2022 to focus on his mental health  and wellbeing.

Back in January, he took to Instagram to share reflections on his personal growth over the past year.

The "Wonder" singer  posted a video of himself singing along to a harmonium  and expressed how this practice helped him cope with anxiety and fear. Mendes revealed that allowing himself to sing without the need for perfection became a source of comfort, emphasizing the beauty in the interplay between "right" and "wrong" notes.

"I realized there were only moments of bliss and euphoria from the 'right' notes BECAUSE of the 'wrong' notes," he wrote on Instagram at the time. "The only reason I can sing in key is because I've learned to listen."

Mendes also shared that his most significant lesson in 2023 was "to accept and welcome the lows of life" and not constantly seek change to regain a sense of high.

UPDATE Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes canceled his entire “Wonder” tour of North America and the UK today, saying he has decided “to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger.”

The announcement comes just several weeks after Mendes postponed some tour dates to focus on his mental health. The tour was supposed to restart this Sunday in Toronto.

In an Instagram post today, Mendes writes:

As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me. I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away. After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger. I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK / Europe. We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority. This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future. I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal. I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.

the experience was so magical and incredible, i wait him for like 4 years and when i saw him i couldn´t avoid to cry becuase i though it wasn't true. He is so nice, kind and the sweetest guy in the world. His passion for singing in front of a lot of people is so admirable, i really love his voice and how he interact with his fans like singing with them or go down and the end of the show for meet some of them and feel that connection between them. I really enjoy every song as long as I tore my throat singing with all my heart, the part of I was waiting the most was Bad reputation because of the rock sensation and power at that moment and in Never be alone was really magical, i've never though i was gonna be part of those lights in the show. At the end with In my blood y realize that it was done, that the show has over and I couldn´t believe it because it pass so fast. Everything was magical and passionate and I´m so thankful with Shawn for coming to my country and make my dream came true. I love him so much.

Shawn Mendes’ show was the best show in my life

It started with Alessia Cara performance. It was awesome, she sings really well and she has a really great presence in the stage I got really emotional and cried a lot during her performance.

Then Shawn Mendes started he really sings very well. He gave a short speech about every single person is important and even when we hit the rock bottom we are important and we have the power to change the wrold.

The visuals of the show were amazing and beautiful

The crowd was really loud we sang from the top of our lungs and everyone(including me) knew every single word of every single song the both sang

I don’t have words to describe the show... I cried a lot... I laughed a lot... I had lots of fun.... and I smiled a lot..... it was magical both Alessia’s and Shawn’s performance. I was really glad that he brought her(btw she is one of my favorite singers as Shawn is)

It was a really nice, emocional and a great concert

I will never forget this moment

Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes is canceling the rest of his Wonder world tour dates, the singer announced on Wednesday.

In a statement posted to his Instagram, Mendes shared that he would “unfortunately” have to cancel all the North American, U.K. and European dates of the tour, which was set to kick off in June.

The singer noted that despite starting “this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic,” he was not “at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.” The statement mirrors a similar one he made back in July when the “In My Blood” singer announced he was postponing the first three weeks of the tour.

The statement also suggests that Mendes is “hopeful” he will be able to pick up tour dates after this mental health pause, but that ultimately right now he’s focused on putting “my health first as my priority.”

“This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music , and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future,” Mendes added. “I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal.”

Mendes, who has been touring since he was 15, released Wonder — his latest and fourth studio album — in December 2020. The world tour was expected to kick off last month and run through October ahead of its European leg, which was slated to launch in May 2023.

The singer-songwriter has been open about his mental health in the past. Most recently that was in the form of a letter to fans posted to his social media in April, in which he states that during his low points, “I either put on a show or hide” and that amid his own success, he still struggles to not feel like he’s “failing.”

“The truth is that I’m overwhelmed and overstimulated,” he concluded. “The truth is also that I’m okay. I’m just tryna tell and be the truth.”

Shawn Mendes 'Getting Help' After Postponing Multiple Shows to Prioritize Mental Health: Source

The "Stitches" singer announced last Friday that he would be postponing the next three weeks of stops set for his Wonder world tour

Shawn Mendes is taking time off.

Last week, the musician, 23, announced on social media that he was taking a break from his Wonder world tour to focus on his mental health.

Now, a source tells PEOPLE that Mendes is "getting help," explaining, "Shawn is a very sensitive and caring guy."

"When he gets frustrated with things around him, he turns inward and suffers. He said he is getting help so that is admirable," the insider says.

Mendes previously kicked off his Wonder world tour in Portland, Oregon, on June 27. He was set to continue his tour in St. Paul, Minnesota, over the weekend, before postponing the concert series.

"This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately I'm going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT until further notice," Mendes wrote on social media last week.

He noted that he's "been touring since I was 15" and said it has "always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family."

Mendes added that because he had "a few years off" from touring, "I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I've hit a breaking point."

The star said he spoke with his "team and health professionals," which led to him realizing he needs "to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost."

"As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know love you guys," Mendes concluded.

In an open Instagram post in December 2021, the Grammy-nominated artist told fans he was having a "hard time with social media at the moment."

Mendes first thanked his supporters for connecting with his new song , "It'll Be Okay," which he released just weeks after splitting from Camila Cabello after over two years of dating.

"I'm having a little bit of a hard time with social media at the moment, just kind of my relationship with it, but I have lots of people sending me videos and telling me what's going on," he started the nearly two-minute clip posted to his page.

"I see a lot of TikToks of people crying and getting emotional and stuff, and I hope that's because there's some truth in the song ['It'll Be Okay'], and there lies honestly in it," Mendes continued.

Added the "Stitches" singer: "I just feel so proud of that song and I'm so grateful you guys are connecting with it, and I feel so grateful that people are being vulnerable with it and people are just having fun with it."

Mendes then ended his video by saying, "I see you guys, and I see how much love you're giving the song, and giving me, and that means the world to me, so thank you."

The singer first spoke about having anxiety in a 2018 interview with Zane Lowe, and told PEOPLE one year later that opening up about the struggle was "one of the scariest but most important things I've ever done."

At the time, Mendes said that addressing his anxiety by releasing the single "In My Blood," which would go on to earn a Grammy nomination, was cathartic.

"Just doing that helped me the most," he said. "I still struggle with it but just remember every day that everyone deals with some level of anxiety or pressure; we're all in it together."

Noah Kahan has spent the past few weeks popping up as a surprise guest at other artists’ concerts, and on Saturday the situation was flipped at Kahan’s Toronto gig as the singer welcomed Shawn Mendes onstage to join him on “Stick Season.”

“I’ve been watching this young man’s career for a long time, and in a lot of ways he’s been a North Star for me. When I first got signed, he was still the guy I looked up to a lot,” Kahan said in introducing Mendes onstage.
