Other main news during the week were the economic growth data from the UK and inflation data from China.

As the summer heats up here in New Jersey the summer concert season does too. On the heels of New Jerseys’ first real summer’s heat wave, rock fans from all over the state flocked to the PNC Bank Arts Center to see the hard rock music greats – Godsmack and Staind.
Written by Andris Jansons
First one came Mix Master Mike. DJ that has worked with many great artists and is mostly known for his work with Beastie Boys. While it might be a surprising choice for a DJ to open a rock show, it was perfect. Besides all the Beastie Boys hits, Mike played many rock and metal big hits to get the crowd going. He is also very familiar to the Godsmack fans as at least for the last two or so years he is the face of the intro that is played before Godsmack takes the stage.
And if there was anyone left in the crowd that needed an energy jolt, mother nature certainly stepped in to help with some thunderstorms rolling into the area. Just before Staind was supposed to take the stage one large storm finally reached the theater. One strong lighting strike shook the air and a downpour with gusty winds followed. Fans looked for shelter. However, there were quite a few that took it as a challenge or some extra experience and stayed out in the open celebrating each wind gust. Thankfully it was over fast enough, and it delayed the show only for about 20 minutes.
Staind is a well-seasoned rock band from Massachusetts, that has been around since 1995, with two stints in hiatus from the public eye. The band’s vocalist Aaron Lewis has released an extensive solo music collection and made some headlines for political opinion reasons.
The band opened with a brand-new song “Lowest In Me” from the upcoming album “Confessions Of The Fallen”. They followed with a few more up-tempo hits like Not Again and Just Go. I will certainly not draw favorites here, but for many Staind is bellowed because pf their ballads, and just by the middle of the set and Aaron’s solo of Epiphany, one of the biggest ones followed – Right Here. It wasn’t a long wait for all to indulge in dancing and singing to the other two – So Far Away and It’s Been Awhile. The set was properly wrapped up with thunderous Mudshovel.

Fellow Massachusetts rockers Godsmack’s set was also delayed because of an earlier thunderstorm. Day earlier in the Camden, NJ the band had to cancel their set due to the stormy weather. A white curtain covered the stage, and as mentioned earlier it was used as a screen to display Mix Master Mike’s intro of the Godsmack.
After proper Godsmack went straight to business with When Legends Rise and Cryin’ Like A Bitch. The third song 1000hp came with a proper stage flame thrower display.
Earlier in February of this year, the band released their eight-studio album called “Lighting Up The Sky”. Band performed three songs from latest release – You And I, What About Me and Surrender. Rest of the setlist stretched through the whole discography.
Of course, we had THE BATALLA DE LOS TAMBORES. A drum battle between bands vocalist Sully Erna (who is former drummer himself) and drummer Shannon Larkin. The biggest winners here of course were fans. Some snippets from rock and metal biggest hits played during the battle included Walk This Way, Back In Black, Enter Sandman and more.
For the encore the band played Under Your Scars, the song that addresses mental health issues. with Sully on the piano that had a link to the https://www.scarsfoundation.org/ , a charity organization started by Sully Erna. Such emotionally powerful moment was transformed into powerfully aggressive ending with bands mega hit I Stand Alone that was accompanied with a lot of flames.

Godsmack is a four-man Grammy-nominated rock band with a late 90s post-grunge and nu-metal sound. Formed in 1995, the band is heavily influenced by critically acclaimed musicians such as Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and Alice in Chains. Lead singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Sully Erna formed the band after a music career with the rock band Strip Mind. Godsmack used to be called The Scam and had the original members of Erna and Merill with two other musicians.
In 1998, Godsmack cemented its name in the metal rock scene as their debut album "Godsmack" became an international success. The album hit it quickly at a whopping number 22 on the Billboard Hot 200 and was certified gold by 1999. Another breakthrough in their career was the featured soundtrack of the movie "The Scorpion King" in 2002. "I Stand Alone" became the number-one single on Rock Radio and was one of the most active rock songs of the year. To celebrate ten years as a band, Godsmack released a greatest hits album entitled "Good Times, Bad Times... Ten Years of Godsmack" in 2007. The anniversary album immediately sold over 40,000 copies in the first week of its release.
Fans will be thrilled to hear Godsmack's announcement of their 2023 tour! The hard metal rock band Staind will join them on the fateful journey and help amp up the nostalgia. The band was famous during the late 1990s, popularizing moody power ballads like "So Far Away" and "Fade." Both bands had played together early on in their career during a concert tour in 1998. Now their back with a vengeance, stronger than ever, in a show of a lifetime. With an epic new album dubbed "Lighting Up The Sky," Godsmack promises singles like "What About Me" and "Soul On Fire."
Mark those calendars as Godsmack and Staind will perform in an all-out live show honoring rock and roll and its reign through decades of music. They'll bring the sound to you at the outdoor amphitheater Pavilion at Montage Mountain this 2nd of August. So what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets now! Staind and Godsmack Tour: Review and Photos
Staind at Pine Knob, on tour with Godsmack, 2023
Staind and Godsmack Tour 2023: View photos and read a review of the tour’s stop at Pine Knob near Detroit
Rock bands Staind and Godsmack are touring the U.S. together on a North American amphitheater run , and the show reached Pine Knob near Detroit on Wednesday (Aug. 9). If there was any question about the staying power of these bands, both of whom have been rocking it for more than 20 years, that was put to rest with this tour. From the pavilion seats to the top of the hill at the end of the amphitheater, Pine Knob was packed, shoulder to shoulder, with adoring rock fans ready to see this Staind and Godsmack live.
“I’ve seen Godsmack five times and Staind many times, also,” one fan randomly said walking into the venue. The fact people come back to see these two bands multiple times in concert is a testament to their longevity and high-quality stage shows.
For Staind fans, this show was a long time coming. The band hasn’t been touring much lately, with vocalist Aaron Lewis instead doing his solo shows. But, now Staind are back and have their first new album in 12 years, “Confessions of the Fallen,” out this September. Meanwhile, Godsmack are touring being their latest album, this year’s “Lighting Up the Sky.”
Beastie Boys legend Mix Master Mike kicked off the evening with a rousing set, as fans filed in. Then, Staind took the stage around 7:20 p.m., playing to an already packed amphitheater. The Massachusetts band started the set with “Lowest in Me.” It’s the latest single off their aforementioned upcoming album, “Confessions of the Fallen.” The band sounded tight and solid from the start of their set to the finish. Also, every band member – Lewis, guitarist Mike Mushok, bass player Johnny April and drummer Sal Giancarelli – took reign of their role onstage and really put on a show. Musically, the set was heavy on Staind’s more melodic songs, such as “So Far Away,” “Right Here” and “Fade.” That said, they raged and roared with tracks such as “For You” and “Mudshovel.” Furthermore, the latter closed out the set.
Godsmack ended the night, bringing pyro and scorching hot flames to the show. Taking the stage around 9:20 p.m., Sully Erna and company started the set with “When Legends Rise,” off their 2018 release by the same name. Godsmack are statesmen of rock music, and it shows in their live set. Moreover, I’ve seen them perform live several times, and they bring a consistency to their shows that simply demands respect. Musically, Godsmack delivered plenty of classics (“1000hp,” “Voodoo”). They also played cuts off their latest album, “Lighting Up the Sky” (“Surrender,” “You and I”).
It’s hard to imagine rock radio without Staind and Godsmack. Both bands have dominated the charts from the 2000s to today. After seeing both these bands in action again, their high-caliber live shows show why they’ve enjoyed such longevity. View photos from the Staind and Godsmack 2023 tour stop at Pine Knob below.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Headbangers and heavy metal music lovers can start planning for the fourth annual two-day Upheaval Festival in Grand Rapids’ Belknap Park this summer.
The Upheaval Festival is planned for Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20.
This year’s lineup includes some heavy hitters, including Godsmack, Bad Omens, Killswitch Engage and Beartooth.
Godsmack, the Friday headliner, is coming to Grand Rapids for its penultimate 2024 Vibez tour stop, which the band calls “an intimate evening of music and untold stories.” The band has been making music since 1995 and most recently released its eighth album, “Lighting Up the Sky,” last February.
Tickets are now on sale for the two-day festival at upheavalfest.com .
Single-day general admission tickets are $65, and a two-day GA pass is $119. General admission tickets grant admittance to the festival’s three stages, plus access to standing and seated general admission areas, festival experiences and a variety of food vendors.
VIP tickets for Saturday and the two-day VIP passes are already sold out for the July festival, but event organizers have created a waitlist. Friday VIP tickets are currently available for $130.
VIP tickets include access to the festival, along with access to the VIP lounge, a dedicated entrance lane with early entrance at 12:45 p.m. and an exclusive viewing area of the main stage. The higher-tier tickets also come with access to dedicated VIP restrooms and complimentary water.
During Upheaval Festival, Belknap Park will transform into an amphitheater in the heart of Grand Rapids. The festival is put on by MiEntertainment Group, which is also behind the Grand Rapids Breakaway Festival that takes place in August. The 2024 Breakaway Festival lineup hasn’t yet been announced.
The Friday concert lineup includes :
- Killswitch Engage
- Ayron Jones
- Austin Meade
- Citizen Soldier
- Another Day Dawns
The Saturday lineup includes :
- From Ashes to New
- Stabbing Westward
- Drowning Pool
- I See Stars
- Sleep Theory
Along with the festival in Belknap Park, both nights will end with an after-show at The Intersection, 133 Cesar E. Chavez Ave SW. Tickets for the after shows are sold separately from the music festival wristbands.
The Friday night after-show performer is As I Lay Dying and the Saturday show is by P.O.D. Doors open for both shows at The Intersection at 9 p.m. with the headliner performance expected at 11:30 p.m. Presale tickets for the after-shows are $30.
The daytime Upheaval Festival events are open to all ages, but the shows at The Intersection are for those 17 or older.
Upheaval Festival is an outdoor event and is held rain or shine. Festival wristbands are not transferrable once applied to a patron’s wrist. A limited number of premium parking spots are located at Belknap Park, 30 Coldbrook St. NE, and are available for purchase.

“Really looking forward to running on tour this summer with our old pals in Staind,” stated Godsmack. “For sure every night will be packed with great music and A LOT of fun memories! Don’t miss it!”
Staind’s Aaron Lewis commented, “We’re really looking forward to being out with Sully and the guys this summer,” while guitarist Mike Mushok added, “The first time we shared the stage with Godsmack was the 1998 Warped Tour and here we are 25 years later still going strong. We’re stoked to be sharing the stage with our old friends this summer.”
Godsmack recently released their latest album, Lighting Up the Sky , with the band stating that it is their last album ever. However, frontman Sully Erna told Heavy Consequence that the band will continue as a live act , explaining, “We’re going to close this chapter, but we’re gonna open a new chapter. We’re not announcing a breakup.”
Godsmack’s Sully Erna on Why Their New Album Is Their Last
Following a long hiatus, Staind resumed touring in 2019 and are currently working on their first album since 2011’s self-titled effort. Lewis, meanwhile, has been recording as a solo artist, and also making headlines for his right-wing views in recent years.
