Holodeck Mission 1 - Tranquil Garden

You start on one end of the garden with a beautiful overhang. Continue to the opposite side and grab the compression rifle. Hide behind the benches and be prepared to kill a lot of monsters. Once they are dead, the mission is completed. You can sit back and enjoy the garden. Be sure to note, that if you kill the farmer, one of Species 8472 will appear and attack you.

Holodeck Mission 2 - Shooting Range

The objective is quite simple in this level. Destroy everything that moves. Little red targets will float around you and you need to destroy them. The best strategy is to lead your target and fire. The best weapon for this mission is the phasor, because you can hold down fire for quite a time while aiming at the target.

Holodeck Mission 3 - Captain Proton Part 1

To kill the robot, run around the room, constantly moving and shooting at him. It takes about 10 shots to kill him. Next, you must kill Dr. Chaotica. The best strategy is to strafe, then shoot, then strafe again. It takes about five shots to kill him.

Holodeck Mission 4 - Klingon Compound

You start in a small room with the holodeck controls behind you and some barrels in front of you. Your weapon are the phaser and the compression rifle. Exit the room and take a left. There is a Klingon patrolling at the end of the hallway. He should take about four shots to kill. When he is dead, take his gun. When finished, take a left and go down the hallway until you come to a rather square room. To the left is a button you need to press. The button looks like a red key (see screenshot). Once it is pressed, turn around and collect the isodisium to the right. Continue back down the hallway and go through the door with the three green dots. There will be a Klingon to your left. Shoot him.

Go forward through the next door until you emerge outside. Here you will find five Klingons you need to kill, two are at your left, one is hiding beside some boxes towards the front left, and there is one on the balcony above you. The last Klingon is patrolling around. Once they are dead, walk to the far left corner and collect another isodisium. Once you have got it, look toward the boxes and scan toward your left. You should see a health regenerator. Use it.

Once that is done, head back toward the door you came through. When you are about half way there, look to your left and you should see a yellow ladder surrounded by a fence with some boxes stacked on the outside. Climb over the boxes and hop over the fence. Collect some more isodisium to the right of the ladder, then climb the ladder. Once you are at the top, follow the walkway along. At the end of it, look down and you should see a small ledge you can jump on. After jumping on the ledge, you should see a door to your left. Go through it.

When you have entered, you should see a way to your left, and one to your right. Go to the one to the right and look down over part of the compound. Shoot the patrolling Klingon and then take the previous left. Continue forward and you will once again see three different ways to go. Go forward and turn around. There are two Klingons below you that are monitoring a control panel. After you have killed them, take a left and collect the isodisium. Next, turn around and follow the walkway to the other side. You should see another left and right. Go right and collect some more isodisium. Take the yellow ladder down on the left.

When down, click on the red button. Take a left and follow the hallway along. Next, go right. You will find five Klingons you will need to fight in the next room. When they are deceased, continue on until you come across a red force field. Going right, collect some more isodisium and then press the button on your left. Go back and continue through where the red force field was. Take a right and battle two more Klingons. Get health and proceed to the elevator like contraption. It should beam you to the next section of the level.

Continue through the next door with the green dots. There are four Klingons waiting for you. One on balcony and three down below you. Remember the one Klingon on the balcony? There is a walkway over there. Follow it and take a left. After killing the next Klingon, continue forward on some pipes. Collect the isodisium and go left on the walkway. Jump over the rail and press the red button on your left. Next, go through the green door and kill another Klingon. Then use the health regenerator found in the room. Now, continue all the way back to the green door that originally brought you to this large room. Go through the door and take a right, continuing onward through the Jefferies Tube.

Take the yellow ladder down. At the bottom, take the next Jefferies Tube you see. Go forward and shoot the patrolling Klingon from inside the Jefferies Tube. Emerge from the room and kill the Klingon you find at the other side of the force field. He was monitoring a button you need to press. After pressing the button, turn around and you should see an open "hole" in the ground. Go down it and go through the next Jefferies Tube collecting the isodisium. Once out, go up the next ladder. You should be surrounded by a red force field (quite a popular Klingon decoration).

Collect the data pad from a table in front of you and press the two buttons you see. Three Klingons will beam in. Fight and kill them all. Turn around and run to the door on the other side of the room. The mission will end abruptly.

Borg Slayer

This little game was put together by Crewman Dischler in his free time. You start this game in a long hallway. The first thing you might notice, is that you are playing in a third person view. Run along the hallway until you come to the a large square platform with paths through it. You are standing on a section that will rotate when you press some red buttons that will be talked about in a bit. For now continue on through it until you come a blocked section of the level. To your right is a red square with arrows and to your left is a cracked wall. Shoot the wall a few times until it crumbles.

Continue forward and grab the scavenger rifle. Turn around, and there will be four borg you will need to kill. As soon as they are dead, you should hear Seven of Nine say," destroy that field generator". This is your cue to to shoot the glowing green box on the wall. Next, turn around and get health, then go back to the area you blew the wall open. You should once again see the red switch with arrows. Go step on it. The middle area should rotate creating a new path. Follow the path along and you should find yourself shortly near some steam coming off the wall. This steam will harm you greatly. Be careful when going across, and try to time the crossing right. The steam will be off for about two seconds before it comes back on.

Once through, take a sharp right and then a left. You should see another crumbly wall. Shoot it but don't go through the newly opened pathway. There are two deadly guns inside. Blowing up the wall gives you an exit for this next part. Head back to some stairs. and jump across. Once across, continue forward being sure to stay on the left until you come across an elevator. Ride it up. Follow the path along and pick up a stasis weapon. Be careful because three borg beam in and they can shoot. Go forward and take a left and another borg will beam in. When he is dead, continue on and step on a green button. It starts up another elevator.

Turn around and follow the walkways all the way back to the elevator you just rode up and take it down. Once down take a sharp right, then left and then another sharp right and continue until you arrive at the next elevator. Ride this one up. Continue forward and press anther green button. Turn around and ride the elevator back down. When down, turn until you can see the staircase and go forward. Once at the end, take a left to where Seven of Nine is being held. Shoot the shield generator on the wall.

Once Seven has beamed out, go back to the elevator you just came from and ride it back up. This time, take a left and then another left. There are five borg you need to kill in this room. When they are dead, continue forward and press the red button. Now go back to the area Seven was rescued at. Once there, go toward the steam, and take the stairs. Jump top the next set of stairs. Now jump to the balcony where you see the photon burst weapon. Jump through the next two walkways.

  Mission Complete.

Not really worth it.

The Good The Expansion Pack (ExP) for Elite force had SO MUCH POTENTIAL.

Unfortuneately Raven did nothing to warrant purchasing this. I thnk if they were available for free downloads, it would hvae been worth it.

But there are plusses to this package. First if you hadn't upgraded Elite Force to 1.2 yet, the ExP does it for you, including the Jeri Ryan (7 of 9) voice over. It has a interesting mod called Virtual Voyager. Basically it allows you to go around the differnt decks of Voyager and do different things. The Bad But the downside of this ExP is that there hardly any content.

There's a new "Captain Proton" single player mod that takes about 10 minutes to play through. On Deck 15 of "Virtual Voyager" there's a game called Borg slayer. It's a top down puzzle style game.

You can collect "Elite Force Action Figures" in Virtual Voyager and a few new multiplayer maps.

But that's about it. No real content to speak of. I would think that they could at least do another "episode" like the original, but they didn't. The Bottom Line It's really not worth the money. But if you buy it in the "Star Trek Action Pack" (along with Armada and Armada II) you might as well load it up and enjoy the 2-3 hours of content it does provide.

Bottom Line: An expansion pack to me is not just new mods. To me it means more game, more content, and more action. Which the Elite Forec ExP provides none of.

Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force Expansion Pack Review

The Elite Force Expansion Pack ultimately lacks the focus of the original game.

By Greg Kasavin on May 9, 2001 at 7:40PM PDT

Last year's Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force was a surprise success--who would have guessed that one of the best first-person shooters of 2000 would also be a Star Trek game? Elite Force, along with a couple of other high-quality Star Trek games released during the same relative time period, helped Star Trek games recover from an old stigma--since, over the years, most games based on the TV shows fared poorly. But Elite Force was a great game on any terms--it looked and sounded excellent and offered a lot of variety in its interesting single-player storyline. However, a major criticism of the game was that it ended too quickly. In light of this, the decision by Activision and developer Raven Software to create an expansion pack to Elite Force seems like an obvious one. Ideally, it would give fans of Elite Force more of the same sorts of tightly scripted, highly varied single-player scenarios that they enjoyed in the original game. It would also expand upon the game's multiplayer mode, which was fairly simple. In reality, the anonymous Elite Force Expansion Pack does only the second half of this: It introduces a number of new multiplayer options. On the other hand, its single-player features are the antithesis of the original single-player levels. The open-ended "Virtual Voyager" option offered in the expansion simply lets you go on a scavenger hunt within a 3D re-creation of the TV show's flagship. Some aspects of this may be enjoyable to fans of the TV series. However, it's not likely to be of much fun or of much use to those who enjoyed Elite Force for any reason beyond its source material.

Five new multiplayer options are available in the expansion.

As noted, the Elite Force Expansion Pack divides its supplemental content between additions to the single-player and multiplayer modes of Elite Force. The five new multiplayer options offer some interesting variations to the standard deathmatch (or rather, holomatch), team holomatch, and capture-the-flag multiplayer modes available in the original Elite Force. Some of these are more successful, and a lot of the new features are similar to those found in other multiplayer shooters. The new options include the action-hero mode, in which one player packs more weapons, health, and overall power than other players in the free-for-all match. An opposing player who successfully eliminates the action hero earns five frags instead of just one and also gains the action hero's enhanced abilities. The basic problem with this mode lies in the fact that a relatively good player will most likely remain action hero indefinitely--the extra advantages given to this player include the ability to regenerate health, so unless other players successfully gang up against him, he'll reign supreme.

Assimilation is a team-based game mode in which one side plays as the Borg and must try to assimilate the opposing side. Assimilated players respawn as Borg, but the underdogs can still win the day if they manage to bring down the Borg queen--whose role is randomly assigned to one of the Borg players. The Borg play differently from regular characters--they move more slowly, have a teleport ability, and are limited to a couple of basic attacks. This mode lends itself to pitched battles, so it can be quite fun.

There's little to do in Virtual Voyager mode except make trouble.

The new disintegration option and specialties option can be applied to any of the three types of multiplayer matches. In disintegration, all players are armed with a souped-up Federation compression rifle, whose shots will kill any other player instantly. You'll die quickly and frequently in this mode--whether that's fun is questionable, but there's no denying you need to choose your shots carefully if you're playing in a disintegration match. The specialties option lets you choose a specialization for your character, as in multiplayer shooter mods like Team Fortress Classic for Half-Life. The six available specialties range from sniper to medic and essentially lock down the types of weapons you'll be able to use, as well as grant a few specific abilities. Enabling specialties can help make capture-the-flag matches more interesting--for instance, the fast but weak infiltrator class makes a great flag carrier, but it tends to require backup from players with more firepower. However, the specialties mode isn't so great for free-for-alls or standard team holomatches, as most players will simply opt for either the sniper or the heavy weapons classes.

The Elite Force Expansion Pack also adds an option called elimination, in which defeated players sit out for the rest of the round. A similar dynamic creates very intense team battles in the extremely popular mod Half-Life: Counter-Strike, but not being able to respawn just doesn't seem to fit in an Elite Force holomatch.

As a holdover from Elite Force (and Quake III Arena, whose 3D engine was used in the making of the game), you can play any of the multiplayer modes with and against computer-controlled bots. However, the bots are ill equipped to handle capture-the-flag and especially the new assimilation and specialties options. Still, it can be fun to hone your reflexes against computer opponents. Unfortunately, another holdover from Elite Force is that you must run a separate executable file to play the Elite Force Expansion Pack in multiplayer mode, which is inconvenient.

Though they aren't outstanding, the multiplayer additions in the Elite Force Expansion Pack are basically enjoyable. You'll be able to play these on more than 20 new maps, many of which are designed specifically for capture-the-flag. Like the holomatch maps from the original Elite Force, these are noticeably Star Trek-themed, which gives them a fairly distinct look, compared with maps found in many other shooters. Elite Force's impressive arsenal of energy weapons (which doesn't change in the expansion) also makes these matches seem very quick.

The black-and-white Captain Proton mission looks promising at first.

Unlike the multiplayer additions in the expansion, the new single-player Virtual Voyager mode is more difficult to justify. It just lets you run around the various decks of the Voyager, carrying an ugly tricorder device that simply identifies the names of characters and objects. It's easy to get lost in the uniformly gray corridors of the Voyager--truth be told, the design of the vessel doesn't seem particularly aesthetic or intuitive. Though this virtual tour lets you interact with the crew of Voyager, which can usually be found in its respective stations, at best it seems like all you're doing is pestering these poor characters--who seem to either be busy or simply standing around, minding their own business. You do get to access some intelligence files regarding the crew and other aspects of the Star Trek universe, but these encyclopedic reference materials are suitable only for die-hard fans of the show, much like the entire Virtual Voyager mode. Then again, it's these fans who'll be most disappointed by the inability to have meaningful interactions with the crew or with any of Voyager's stations or equipment. In all fairness, Elite Force is a shooter, not a simulation or a role-playing game--but the Virtual Voyager option is none of these things.

Actually, it does attempt to be a shooter when you get to the holodeck and try out the four new single-player missions. Unfortunately, all of these are poor. One of them at least has a good concept: In it, you play as Voyager lieutenant Tom Paris' holodeck alter ego, Captain Proton, a '50s-era pulp science-fiction superhero. He must traverse an entirely black-and-white level to save the lovely Constance Goodheart from the evil Dr. Chaotica. As charming as the idea may sound, in practice, the Captain Proton level is even blander than its color palette--you just kill one basic type of enemy grunt over and over while navigating a simple environment, until you reach the disappointing showdown with Chaotica and his evil pet robot. At least you can finish the whole level in less than half an hour, and better yet, you can use this mode's black-and-white character models in multiplayer. If the Captain Proton mission is bad, then the other three are terrible. One is a mission inside a Klingon base. The confusing level design and the predictable firefights are much less satisfying than anything in the original Elite Force. The holodeck also sports a boring old shooting gallery, where you blast little moving targets for no reason. Finally, there's a "holodeck goes wrong" mission in which you get to kill stupid aliens in a garden until they stop respawning.

Virtual Voyager is only suitable for die-hard fans of the show.

For the most part, the Elite Force Expansion Pack has the same high-quality production values as in the original game. The blandness of some of the single-player areas does detract from this to some extent, and some of the new dialogue in the game sounds muffled, though at least all the characters from the show are voiced by the actors who portray their real-life counterparts. Even actress Jeri Ryan, who didn't provide the voice for her character, Seven of Nine, in the original Elite Force, recorded the speech in the expansion. She even rerecorded all of Seven's dialogue from Elite Force, which is obtainable in a free, downloadable patch.

The Elite Force Expansion Pack ultimately lacks the focus of the original game. The single-player Virtual Voyager mode is more interesting in principal than it is in practice, while the new multiplayer options are mostly worthwhile, though not out of the ordinary nor out of the realm of free downloadable mods. Elite Force was a great game in itself--the fact that it was based on a TV show had little bearing on its actual quality and merely gave it a more-specific appeal. However, your enjoyment of half of the expansion pack's content depends upon how much you enjoy Voyager the show, as the expansion lacks many of its predecessor's great qualities but does leave the Star Trek context intact. Otherwise, the Elite Force Expansion Pack is suitable for those who couldn't get enough of the original game's multiplayer holomatch. These players in particular will find that the expansion's $20 retail price can be suitably justified by some of its new features.

Some of the best decking materials include:

  • Wood: Cedar, redwood, and tropical hardwoods offer a classic look but require regular maintenance.
  • Pressure-Treated Lumber: Affordable pine that resists rot and insects but may need staining.
  • Composite Decking: Low-maintenance blend of wood fibers and recycled plastic, available in various colors.
  • PVC Decking: Synthetic option resistant to stains, scratches, and fading, but can be pricey.
  • Aluminum Decking: Lightweight, durable, rust-resistant, suitable for water areas, but more expensive.
  • Vinyl Decking: Low-maintenance, moisture, and rot-resistant, but quality varies.

It’s better to build a patio when:

  • Privacy is a priority: Patio provides a sense of privacy, especially when enclosed.
  • Budget and low maintenance are the priority: Patios are generally more cost-effective to build and require less maintenance.
  • The ground is flat: For even ground, constructing a patio is easier and more straightforward.

It’s better to build a deck when:

  • Scenic views are desired: Decks offer better views.
  • You are fine with obtaining building permits and inspections: Decks typically require permits and inspections due to their structural impact on the home.
  • The ground is uneven: If your backyard has slopes or uneven terrain, a deck can provide a stable and level outdoor space.

Understand [ edit ]

Overlooking the confluence of the Amur and Ussuri Rivers, Khabarovsk is the second largest city in the Russian Far East , approaching 600,000 residents and growing. It is also the capital of both Khabarovsk Krai and the Far Eastern Federal District . Unlike Vladivostok, the city has never been closed to foreigners, and retains a distinct international feel, rare for the Russian provincial centers – a feeling propped up by an increasing Asian presence with arrivals from Asian countries now numbering over a million each year. In turn, Asians come here to experience a piece of Europe close to home, with the fortunate effect that the city is spending huge swaths of money renovating the city, in which old classical buildings were spared much of the destructive effects of the 1917-23 civil war, to provide its visitors with just that feeling. From a European's perspective, Soviet city planning has unmistakably taken its toll, but it is still far more attractive than your average Siberian city.

Climate [ edit ]

The climate is temperate and monsoonal, with a cold, dry winter and a hot and humid summer. The average temperature for a full year is just 2°C, but covers over wide span of monthly averages ranging from a bone chilling −20°C in January to a quite warm +21°C average in July. The city sees an average of 686 mm precipitation in a year, but unfortunately the lions' share falls in the warm summer months. The number of sunny days per year is 70, which is higher than Moscow's 54. Climate-wise, end of May - early June or end of August - early September are the best time for a visit.

By plane [ edit ], by train [ edit ].

  • 48.49659 135.07283 2 Khabarovsk railway station ( Habarovsk 1 ), Leningradskaya, 58 , ☏ +7 4212 38-39-40 . Khabarovsk station, listed as Habarovsk 1 in most train schedules, is a major stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway . There are several trains each day bound for Vladivostok (800 km) and Moscow (about 8500 km) along the main Trans-Siberian line. Other options include trains #386 or #035 to Blagoveshchensk , #325 for Tynda, #667э for Komsomolsk , #943э Vanino , all on the Baikal-Amur Mainline . Vanino is an interesting option as it allows ferry connections to Sakhalin and further on to Wakkanai in Japan – more details in the Russia to Japan via Sakhalin itinerary. The international trains are Khabarovsk- Harbin , ongoing twice a week and Khabarovsk- Pyongyang on special days.

By boat [ edit ]

  • 48.46904 135.0581 3 River Port , Shevchenko 1 .

If you want to go to places upstream on the Amur river, the Meteor speedboats will often be your transport of choice, but only during the summer when the river is navigable. However, in 2008, the water level in the river was at a historic low, so that the Meteor traffic had to be stopped. If Meteor traffic functions normally, you can go some 1,000 km downstream to the Ul'chi municipal district (rayon), a region mostly inhabited by indigenous Ul'chi people.

  • Fuyuan – In spring and summer there are daily hydrofoil services to Fuyuan in northeastern China , departing from the ferry terminal facing the Amur river.
  • Komsomolsk – If you are heading for the BAM line up north, an interesting option is to take a hydrofoil cruising up the Amur river to Komsomolsk (6 hours), and catch a train from there.

Get around [ edit ]

Map

The best thing to start with is to walk around the center of the city. Have a nice walk from Lenin Square to the Amur River via the main street, Muravieva-Amurski. You will find all sorts of shops and places to eat.

By tram [ edit ]

The city has a network of four tram lines (there is no line 3 or 4). The most useful section for visitors is the stretch of the network running from the main railway station along Amursky Boulevard, before making a left turn down Volochaevskaya St. (near the market), and crossing Muravyov-Amursky Street one block west of Lenina Square, it then continues south intersecting Lenina Street roughly at its halfway point, before a stop at the botanical gardens (Lines 1, 2 & 6). The remainder of the network mainly extends into the sleepy suburbs. Line 5 serves the North, Line 1 and 2 the South along Krasnorechenskaya St.

By bus [ edit ]

The electric trolleybuses also has a few useful sections for visitors, Line 1 runs between the Airport and Komsomolskaya Square (River promenade, Museum cluster) along Karla Marksa and Mureava Amursky streets.

The regular bus number 1, is a useful circle line. It starts at the Railway station, turns down Seryshev street (a block north of Amursky Boulevard) until it reaches the river park at Lenin Stadium. Turns down Komsomolskaya Street (and square) and runs south until Lenina Street. It then runs the entire length of Lenina street before north at the City History Museum and returns to the train station.

Major destinations [ edit ]

The Far Eastern Museums [ edit ]

There is a fantastic cluster of top notch museums along Shevchenko Street, just behind the tall blue-domed Church of Theotokos on Komsomolskaya Square towards the river and stadium. Not only are the museums some of the best in the far east, they also make their home in some impressive century-old buildings dating back to before the revolution. After a visit, the nice river promenade is just a short walk away, so you can wash all that new found knowledge away with some pivos in good company.

Tugged away just across the next street behind the military museum, you also find the Archeology Museum on Turgeneva street.

Learn [ edit ]

Connect [ edit ]

Phones [ edit ].

Khabarovsk has the usual set of Russian mobile operators:

GSM 900/1800:

  • Beeline ( by Vympelcom ), ☏ +7 4212 64-90-64 .
  • Megafon , toll-free: +7 800 333 0500 .
  • MTS ( Mobile TeleSystems ), toll-free: +7 800 333 0890 .
  • Skylink , Dzerzhiskogo, 4 ( Near Amur hotel. ), ☏ +7 4212 74-44-44 . The all-Russian CDMA operator, having less subscribers, than GSM operators, but popular for faster and cheaper mobile Internet service.
  • Megafon , ☏ +7 800 333 0500 . new standart of mobile internet.

Check roaming prices, especially for mobile Internet, before using any non-Russian SIM card. Some mobile connection standards are not supported in Russia , e.g. those for Japan and the United States .

If you're staying in Russia for a week or more, it's definitely worth it to buy a local SIM card, but be aware, that a passport is needed for that. The easiest way to refill a local mobile account is to use an ATM. Most ATMs have bilingual interfaces, allowing numerous kinds of payments, including those for mobile services by local operators. You can also do it through terminals spread all over the city - like Qiwi or mobile shops.

Post [ edit ]

The General post office at 28 Muravyov-Amurskiy St. If you plan on calling anyone, Khabarovsk is UTC +10 (or 7 hours ahead of Moscow).

The post-office at the railway station is located on 13 Leningradsky per. about 200 m from the station building.
