Silver Cross 3D

The Silver Cross 3D is a rather robust umbrella stroller. The newborn insert that comes with the stroller can be attached to the seat in a lie-flat recline and forward-facing mode and allows to use the 3D from birth. The comfort the 3D in this mode offers is comparable to a conventional carrycot, and the stroller can be comfortably used in this "pram mode" until the baby is two to four months old. The Ventura car seat is also compatible, and there is no need to use any adapters. The name is inspired by its 3D telescopic folding system, which allows you to fold the buggy relatively compactly. The stroller can also be folded in the newborn 'pram' mode - with the seat (and all that is to it) still attached. Once folded, the stroller is able to stand by itself for better storage or transport. The stroller comes with a rain cover and a footmuff included. By unzipping the apron, the footmuff can be converted to a seat liner. The 3D was available in the basic 3D Classic version, and the modern 3D Vogue edition full of patterns.

An umbrella stroller suitable from birth - probably the only one that folds (compactly) even with the 'carrycot' still attached. It's great to have in the car or for occasional use/trips - I wouldn't recommend it to have as an only stroller (at least not from birth). The carrycot extension is (for practical reasons) very small (up to 4 months maximum), but the stroller lays flat. So - when the baby grows out of the carrycot, it can lay flat in the seat - only drawback being, it will only face the world. The seat part is just right, size-wise.

I really liked the apron - we used it for both the carrycot and the seat configuration. Even the changing bag that hangs on the handlebars is nice - pretty and adequately sized. The shopping basket is large. Quality materials were used; the wheels are larger than those of conventional umbrella strollers, and gravel doesn't get in the foam at all.

Can you tell me if the bumper bar comes off to wash the bumper cover, please?

Yes, the belly bar does come off, and the cover on it should come off, too, though not totally easily - so you should be able to slide it off for washing.

Would you recommend the Silver Cross Surf to other mums?

I love the design of this pram, the black frame looks really sleek & the limited edition covers are excellent quality. When folded down (which is a palaver, see below!) it becomes really compact & would fit in the smallest of boots. If you're using the bassinet then that folds flat with a couple of clicks so ideal for storing.

How did this product make your life easier?

This pram comes with everything you need to get you from newborn to toddler. The change bag is really spacious and matches the pram perfectly. The bassinet can be used over night so that makes it ideal for having a night or two away and not having to pack a Moses basket. I like that the foot muff & hood can be used on wither the seat or the bassinet and the zip attachment is great for a quick change

What changes would you make to this product?

The fold mechanism. The fold requires too many steps, with a toddler and bad weather I think I would end up in tears in M&S car park wanting to donate the pram to the nearest passerby! It's so frustrating that you have to lock the wheels, remove the seat, lower the handle before you can even start the collapsing process of lifting the handle, putting your foot on the button and then changing the angle of the shopping basket. The thought of doing all that on a wet, miserable day is what has put me off this travel system.

There is no doubt that the quality of this product is very much reflected in the price tag. The look and quality of the product is second to none with its sheepskin liner and beautiful texture of fabrics and the whole appearance is very eye catching and you certain getting some envious looks when out and about with it. The manoeuvrability and comfort of use are outstanding.

The beautiful and stunning changing bag that comes with this pushchair is lovely and has the appearance more of a designer handbag than a regular changing bag. The shopping basket which is incorporated in the frame is a good size and very practical. The straps are easy to fit and you can also easily detach the shoulder straps for easy access to little one.

Would you choose this product to win?

I feel the big down point for this pushchair is its foldability. If there is an award for causing the most pushchair envy then this one would definitely be a winner as it certainly gained a lot of attention when we were out and about.

The one thing that I would change about this pushchair is it foldability as it simply takes up too much room. The chassis collapses brilliantly although it does take some getting use to. The problem is that the seat unit has to be detached from the frame and it simply doesn't fit into the frame at all when collapsed, I have a big SUV and it takes up my whole boot.

The Silver Cross Surf looks amazing. The limited addition covers are superb quality and look really stylish. This pram folds down to a very compact size and would fit into virtually any boot. If using the bassinet when the baby is really small, this folds with ease so it’s ideal for transport and storage. This being said, getting the pram folded is another story...

This pram comes equipped with everything you will ever need in regards to a pram and what you need when you're out with baby. The included change bag is very large and has enough room for everything and it also is a perfect match for the pram. The bassinet is approved for over night use which is handy for being away. The foot muff can be used ro both the seat and the bassinet and the zip attachment is a good quality for a quick and easy change over.

I was SO excited to test this pram as Silver Cross has a place on my heart right from when I was a baby. However, I was so disappointed by the fact that it is so difficult to use. The folding just required far too many steps until it is actually folded. This, along with challenging weather, a baby, a toddler and then all the shopping would send me insane and ditching the pram there and then. i cannot stress how disappointed I was at this. Efficiency is a must.

The fold! It was so frustrating (probably because I had such high expectations). You need to lock the wheels, remove the wheels and lower the handle before you can even start the fold or lifting the handle, pressing the button with your foot and then changing the angle of the shopping basket before proceeding to collapse the pram. Honestly, even the thought is giving me palpitations!!

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.

Silver Cross Avia lightweight buggy review

Super light and stylish buggy that has a lie flat recline and can be used to 20kg, plus it includes a rain cover and luxury footmuff

The Avia is the latest addition to the lightweight range of the Silver Cross family, released in June 2017, and light it is - it weighs just 5.5kg.

Silver Cross is, of course, a family of distinction. Their prams have been used by the Royal Family, first supplying a pram for King George VI, with many royals following suit.

Established in 1877, the Yorkshire brand has won many awards and is an established household name around the world.

Silver Cross describe the Avia as the 'ultimate lightweight stroller', and in terms of its weight, it compares to the MadeForMums silver award-winning Mee-Go Feather (£130), which is 5kg, as well as its sister model the Silver Cross Zest (£145), which weighs 5.8kg but has an umbrella fold.

It is priced slightly higher than those options, at £225, but is not as expensive as other lightweight models such as the Babyzen Yoyo 0+ (£339), and the GB Qbit+ (£250).

As we've already established, the Avia is super light, but is it a stroller of royal pedigree?

5 things we love about the Silver Cross Avia

This buggy is a lightweight stroller. how light is it.

5.5kg. It's really light in other words, even in comparison to other lightweight strollers. The Cosatto Yo 2 is 8.8kg and Chicco's Miini Mo is 6.2kg. I keep on getting friends to pick it up to show them how light it is! It's so easy to carry, even with one hand.

Does its weight hamper its durability?

No. It's very light, but it's strong and sturdy with no wobbly bits.

Is there anything unique about this product?

I guess its USP is that it's extremely light, and folds into a neat, compact shape. It certainly does this well, and yet it is still comfy and strong.

What's in the box?

• Removable bumper bar

What do you think of its design?

You could say it's the Kate Middleton of pushchairs - elegant, svelte, and classy, but ready to roll up its sleeves and do some hard work.

In short, it is an attractive pushchair that performs well. Staying high class, the Avia is available in two chic colours - Special Edition Eton Grey and Henley.

Do you have to buy a lot of additional extras, which all add up or is everything included?

No, everything's included, even a very comfy footmuff.

Was it easy to put together?

Very easy. You just need to pop the wheels on and clip the bumper bar on. The hood is attached but just needs to be clipped into the frame.

Is it easy to use in an urban or inner city environment, public transport?

Super easy. It's so light and compact that it's perfect for buses, trains and tubes as well as a meander round the shops (for which it has a quite deep basket).

Best buggies for London and other big cities

What is the brake like?

This is my one main issue with the Avia. The brake works as it should, that's not a problem, it's just a bit too close to the pram frame and wheel for comfort – it’s fine to press down, but you have to hook your toes under to life it up. Some buggies have more space between the brake and frame and a bigger pedal, so it's easier to work.

How easily does it fold/collapse? Can you do it easily with one hand?

Pretty easily. You just pull a little clip on the frame then pull on a little handle in the seat and it clicks into a folded position. This can be done with one hand. I found the buggy so light that when I was lifting the handle I was actually lifting the buggy too, so I has to hold it still with the other hand. Attempting this more gently, it worked perfectly.

The bumper bar can be used as a carry handle, which is useful.

What did you think of how the various parts adjusted, e.g. handle height?

The handle height doesn't adjust, which may be an issue if you're very tall. It was fine for me though (I'm 5'9").

All the mechanisms on the Avia work very smoothly though.

How compact is it when folded?

Really compact and it stands when folded! It folds down to a nice neat shape that takes up hardly any room.

How easy is it to store?

It's really easy to store away as it's stands on its own. Umbrella fold pushchairs are forever sliding onto the floor, or taking up room because you have to lean them against something.

How comfortable does it feel?

Really comfy. The material is really paddy and soft.

How is interacting with your child when in the buggy?

Really easy. The hood folds back well, and the seat is at a good enough height to easily chat away to your little one.

How does the seat recline?

The seat has a full lie-flat recline, so is good for young babies and sleeping toddlers.

Why your newborn needs a lie flat buggy

You have to recline it using a toggle and straps on the back of the seat, which works smoothly, but I much prefer a seat you can adjust by pulling at a release clip as these you can do with one hand.

What's the hood like?

It has good coverage with a nice peak at the front for extra protection from the light (very important when you're trying to get them to sleep!) It's easy to put up and down, and moves without making a noise.

It has UPF50+, which is good for sun protection. And on those hot days you can even roll up the back panel to let in some air!

If I'm being picky, I personally prefer a super long hood; one that extends to protect most of the body.

What are the basket and storage pockets like?

The basket is quite deep with high fabric and mesh sides. It's definitely good for carrying all adult essentials (shopping, wipes) and child essentials (teddies, toys, conkers).

Does it fit in the boot of your car?

Yes, it does, anyway you turn it. The wheels easily pop off too, if you need extra room.

Is it travel system compatible?

No it's not, but I guess this buggy is sold overwhelmingly on its weight, so a car seat may muddy the waters a little on that.

Would you use it on holiday?

Yes, it's pretty much perfect for holidays. It's so light (have I mentioned that yet?), folds into a dinky space and has sun protection.

Would the weather dictate when you use it?

It has UPF50+ in the hood and a rain cover, so it's good to go in any weather.

Who would the product be most useful for?

Parents who want a light, easy to use and stylish run-around for everyday life and/or for travelling.

Is the product value for money?

Silver Cross is a big name brand, and has maintained it's good name and popularity for quite a long time.

But Silver Cross are more than just a brand. Their buggies are good quality; and that's true for the Avia. It's ultra-light yet strong. It's also very comfy and looks classy.

It compares well to other lightweight strollers. The MadeForMums Awards 2017 gold winner in the Most Compact Pushchair category, the Recaro Easylife is cheaper £189 and a little heavier at 5.7kg.

Silver went to the gb Qbit+, which is £250 and 7.6kg. It's a bit heavier but is travel system compatible. The gb Pockit Stroller is £149.95 and weighs 4.3kg.

All in all, the Avia is one of the lightest strollers out there, reasonably priced and well designed.

MadeForMums verdict:

The Avia is an excellent pram. Super light, durable and stylish. It's got lots of parent-friendly features, such as its compact fold and its stands alone feature. Silver Cross has obviously thought about everything that a parent wants from a pram and excelled with those features.
