PAL TRAVEL CLAIM "ALLIEDBANKERS... - Philippine Airlines (PAL)

  • Philippine Airlines (PAL)

“PAL TRAVEL CLAIM "ALLIEDBANKERS INSURANCE CORPORATION"” Review of Philippine Airlines (PAL)

I'd purchased a travel insurance offer by PAL Ticket with our flight from MNL to SFO, unfortunately my daughter got covid-19 one day before our flight, she wasn't able to take the flight. Immediately I reached out to PAL travel claim to know the process on how to claim her travel insurance, that was June 8th, 2023. I submitted all medical test, physicians note, medical prescriptions in connection with my daughter expenses in connection with covid-19. Series of email follow-ups and email exchanged done then just now July 21, 2023, PAL travel claim came up with the decision that her medical covid-19 related expense claim will not be covered by their insurance policy. WOW, thank you PAL travel insurance, so what is the sense of that travel insurance if even the most legit medical issue of the passenger cannot even covered by your policy. Lesson learned, never buy travel insurance from PAL " ALLIEDBANKERS Insurance corporation".

There are a few good things but there are too many bad things such as there are at least 1 broken thing on every flight I have been on. I have been on this airline just going to the Philippines, Thailand and Japan. Things that were broken were the remote and screens, the folding table and the seat itself. Other people had the same complaints of their entertainment not working and their seats being broken, but the flight attendants told them they will compensate by giving them a drink or a snack. I understand that it may be out of their control, but when doing a clean up after each flight it would be nice to have a note or it being fixed by then. Moreover, my grandmother paid for the 6 family members I was with at the time to sit together, but we ended up being like 30-50 rows apart! I didnt also have this problem, there were others who had this problem, where this old lady next to me said her sons paid to try get seats next to each other, but the airline separated them by like 30 rows. After getting out to baggage claim, it does take like an hour to claim your luggage because the Airline was unprepared. I would just recommend finding another airline to ride if you're going with a big group of people and traveling for over 6 hours. i would only complement their chicken adobo as their meal though. I have been flying with 4 other airlines and by far this one is the worst.

Once we were seated, I noticed that my plane didn't have IFE screens on the back of the seats. It's only 1 hour and 40 mins anyway. I believe there was MyPAL wifi on my flight. Once we were in the air, they served us meals. The flight attendants were respectful and kind. Lavatories were ok though the faucet only worked when I push it down and it didn't keep going once I released. Takeoff and Landing were both smooth and the aircraft was, for the most part, clean. The price really depends on day, how far back before your flight you book, and more. Some destinations are more expensive than others. I paid a lot with my PAL flight from USA to Philippines. Something I notice is that PAL doesn't clean the aircraft on domestic flights. From Dumaguete to Manila, I found napkins and plastic wrappers on the ground so keep that in mind. On international flights, they seem to clean the ground.

Worst airline I’ve flown with. We were meant to fly from kuala lumbar to Manila for a stop over and flying Manila to Sydney. However, our first flight was delayed and we could possibility miss our connecting flight. We were reassured by Philippines airline staff that our connect flight would wait for us to board as there were 17 of us flying back to Sydney. Upon arrival, we were told our connecting flight has left without us. We were stuck in Manila for over 24 hours. The accommodation they provided us was horrible and food vouchers wasn’t enough to pay for a full meal. Even worse, when we finally got back to Sydney they forgot our luggage back in Manila. I’m still without my luggage and it’s been 3 full days since I’ve been back. Take it from me, spend the extra money and go with another airline, as it’s not worth the stress.

Nothing very noteworthy about this flight (other than perhaps that the plane left on time!). Flight was short and smooth. Seats were cramped and the plane was full.

How Do Travel Insurance Claims Work?

How travel insurance claims work

How to submit your travel insurance claim and get reimbursed, time limits for filing a claim, how long do claim submissions take, how to choose a travel insurance plan, if you need to file a claim from your travel insurer ....

Whether your flight has been canceled, your luggage is lost or you get sick or injured during your trip, travel insurance can protect you. But to get your benefits, you need to submit one or more travelers insurance claims, depending on your situation.

Here's how travel insurance claims work and what to watch out for when submitting your claim.

Travel insurance claims are the system through which a traveler submits documentation to their insurance provider for reimbursement of a covered expense. This reimbursement is not guaranteed; instead, it hinges on the approval of the claim from the insurance underwriter.

In general, the provider will need to verify the situation before remitting any reimbursements to travelers, and the level of coverage varies significantly. Insurance providers typically have very explicit, extensive requirements in order for claims to be confirmed and refunded.

Travel insurance 101 means knowing how travel insurance claims work. Hopefully, you’ll never need to file a claim, but it pays to know the following facts if the worst should happen.

» Learn more: What to know before buying travel insurance

You must qualify for a covered reason

Insurance companies are very explicit about the situations they will cover, and coverage details vary by company and the type of policy that you've purchased.

In general, the more expensive your policy, the more benefits the policy will offer. While some policies cover only medical emergencies, others cover trip cancellation and interruption , lost or stolen bags, and other losses.

Even though policies can be dense or boring to read, be sure you look at the details of yours so you know what types of situations you're covered for .

The details of your claim matter

The details about your reason for canceling are important, and the specifics will determine your eligibility. For example, you may not be feeling well, but are you sick enough that a doctor would suggest that you cancel your trip? There's a big difference between having a small cough and having pneumonia.

You may have to go through extra steps, like seeing a doctor, to prove your eligibility.

Reservations must be nonrefundable to qualify for cancellation benefits

When you’re traveling on miles and points, you can receive medical, trip delay and lost luggage benefits from a travel insurance policy you purchase. But if you want reimbursement for a canceled flight, travel insurance only covers nonrefundable expenses.

This prevents travelers from trying to "double-dip" and get a refund from both the airline and the travel insurance company.

Keep cancellation policies in mind before purchasing travel insurance. If you’re flying Southwest Airlines, which offers easy changes and refunds, and if your hotel has a 24-hour cancellation policy and you don’t have many activities booked in advance, you may not need travel insurance. The more flexible your plans, the less need you will have for travel insurance.

Claims should be submitted as soon as possible

Being proactive and timely with your claim ensures you won’t miss any deadlines that the travel insurance company may have. You don't want to go through the entire claims process only to find out that you missed the deadline by a few days. Instead, start your claim as soon as you can.

Organization is your friend

The travel insurance company will require documentation to support your claim, so you'll want to be organized as you collect the necessary records.

To stay organized with your documents, set up a folder in your email account for relevant messages, keep all paper receipts in an envelope and write down details of every conversation.

Many travelers digitize everything to make it easier to submit documents via email or an online portal. Your documentation should show that you have a valid claim that meets the insurance company requirements.

Time limits for filing a travelers insurance claim vary from company to company, so it is wise to refer to your specific policy to ensure you have a clear idea of the timeframe. Overall, most companies require claim submissions within 3 months of the incident.

For instance, according to insurance provider Seven Corners , "You must file your claim within 90 days of the incident, also known as the timely filing limit."

After you've submitted your claim — and assuming you have provided all of the required documentation and other elements — it can take up to two weeks for your reimbursement to be remitted.

Generally speaking, you should expect communication regarding your claim within that same timeframe. This could be to alert you of your claim's approval or to ask for additional evidence.

The more complex your travel insurance claim, the longer your approval and reimbursement process may take.

If your claim is approved, expect to receive a check or direct deposit of the amount owed.

Shop around if you’re looking to purchase a travel insurance plan. There are many online providers of travel insurance and the coverage amounts, limits, exclusions and other offerings can vary widely from provider to provider, not to mention policy to policy — even within the same company.

A comparison tool, like SquareMouth , can help you filter results based on what is important to you. You can filter your search to find policies that cover trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage, medical treatment or other needs. You can then compare the cost of one policy against others based on your preferences and budget.

Travel insurance offers valuable protection in case something goes wrong with your travel plans. Your policy benefits will vary based on the level of coverage purchased and which company is offering the protection. When evaluating travel insurance providers, learn about their claims process should the worst-case scenario come true.

Tips for filing your travel insurance claim

Even with an easy-to-follow online solution, filing any insurance claim is hardly an everyday experience. If you need additional assistance while submitting your claim, don’t hesitate to reach out to Allianz Global Assistance’s team of travel insurance experts at 1-866-907-3045.

We even took some time to chat with our team members to learn about some of the common errors travelers make when filing claims so that we could pass them onto you. These mistakes include failing to check your travel insurance plan’s benefit limits. You’ll want to eyeball your plan’s benefit limits for prepaid, nonrefundable expenses as well as add up the value of your packing list. It might impact which travel insurance plan you pick — or whether you wear that nice dress on the plane or pack it in checked baggage. Another area that’s sometimes overlooked is submitting all required documents for a claim. As noted above, we’ve prepared lists of all the critical items for each type of claim. ( See other common travel insurance claim errors here .) 3

Don’t forget, once you submit your claim, you’re going to want to check its status. There are a few ways to do so, including checking online — or even easier — using our TravelSmart app .

When travel plans go south, you just want to be able to pick up the pieces, quickly and easily. After all, that’s why you purchased a travel insurance plan. At Allianz Global Assistance, we’ve designed our claims process to be “smooth sailing” – even if your getaway wasn’t.

Travel insurance policies vary. Depending on your travel needs, you may opt to buy a single-trip plan, a multi-trip plan, a family/group plan, and even specific plans, including travel insurance with COVID coverage in the Philippines.

Note that most of the policies require you to settle your bills first, which the insurance company will reimburse you after your claim has been processed and approved. After your policy expires, your other travels will not be covered anymore unless you purchase a new plan.

Although travel insurance is usually an optional expense, it can save you a lot of money if you encounter problems during your vacation. To give you peace of mind so you can enjoy your trip better, purchase a travel insurance plan that fits your Philippines itinerary .

But even if you fail to buy a travel insurance plan early, you can still get one from an insurance company that allows you to purchase one as late as 24 hours before your trip. However, note that travel insurance policies are not retroactive and will only cover the events after the plan is in force.

What does travel insurance cover?

Man hiking in the Philippines

This covers medical emergencies due to accidents or illnesses. For example, if you accidentally fall over and injure yourself while exploring the many tourist spots of Luzon , you can expect your travel insurance company to cover some if not all of the hospital and medicine expenses.

This covers non-refundable bookings in the event that you need to cancel your trip before it actually starts due to accidental death, injury, or a serious illness of the insured or an immediate family member.

If your mother suddenly contracts a serious disease and you have to cancel your entire trip, your travel insurance should be able to reimburse what you already paid for, including flights, hotel bookings, and Philippine tour packages .

See our popular Best of the Philippines

If your flight or trip gets delayed for reasons beyond your control, you can get compensation depending on how long the delay is. Note that this coverage has a minimum number of hours delay that needs to be met, and a couple of hours’ delay or less is usually not covered.

For instance, if your flight from Boracay to any of the Philippine Airports is delayed by more than 12 hours due to bad weather, the insurance company will shoulder the cost for additional meals and hotel bookings in the Philippines you need to purchase because of the delay or non-refundable tours to Philippine tourist spots that you missed.

Should you need to cut your trip short due to valid emergencies, your insurance company can help cover the non-refundable deposits, like the Cebu City tours you already paid for, as well as the cost of changing your travel plans, including booking a new last-minute flight.

This covers your transportation from a dangerous non-medical situation to a place of safety. Depending on your policy, this can cover natural disasters and civil or political unrest. If, for example, Mount Mayon erupts during your holiday in Albay , your travel insurance company will reimburse you the money you spent to get to a safe place.

A comprehensive travel insurance policy usually covers the loss of your baggage and personal items that got lost, damaged, or were stolen during your travels. For example, if your airline loses your luggage on your way to visit the tourist spots of Mindanao , this will cover the costs of buying new items you’ll need for your trip, including clothes, toiletries, and other travel essentials. Depending on the policy, most travel insurance companies will only cover up to a certain value.

This is usually an added benefit to basic travel insurance policies, as injuries sustained from extreme adventures and sports are not included in the basic packages. This is useful for those who want to visit the Philipines and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, jet skiing, or scuba diving. This means that if you get injured while exploring the best diving spots in the Philippines , you’ll receive monetary assistance.

This coverage is similar to that included in most life insurance policies, but the only difference is that it only covers the duration of your travel. If, while on vacation, you figure in an accident and lose a limb, your sight, your speech, or your hearing, you will be compensated for it financially. In case of accidental death, your chosen beneficiary will receive the benefit.

When it comes to personal belongings, the most basic travel insurance only covers up to a certain value, usually excluding travel gear like smartphones, cameras, laptops, and drones. If you have this included in your coverage, you will be compensated if any of these items get stolen or lost by your airline or other carriers.

Keep in mind that the cheapest travel insurance in the Philippines may not give you the best value for money. Generally, the cheaper the plan, the fewer incidents it covers, so you need to compare policies based on their coverage and not just the price.

Is travel insurance refundable? No. After your trip or coverage is over, the policy will be terminated. Remember, you’re paying for peace of mind and security, and not claiming anything from your travel insurance is actually a good thing.

If you are a frequent traveler, it might be better for you to consider multi-trip or yearly travel insurance plans, which will cover more travel.

Those traveling with several people in their traveling party should inquire about group or family travel insurance in the Philippines to ensure that everyone is protected.

You may already be insured without knowing it. Some banks provide basic travel insurance with their credit cards and debit cards. Some airlines also include travel insurance in their airfare.

Check the fine print for health exclusions. Most travel insurance policies will not cover pre-existing conditions like asthma or allergies.

PAL TRAVEL CLAIM "ALLIEDBANKERS... - Philippine Airlines (PAL)

Travel Insurance for Natural Disasters: What You Need to Know

When planning a trip, it’s important to consider the unexpected. Natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or wildfires, can disrupt travel plans and leave travelers stranded in unfamiliar territories. In such situations, having travel insurance that covers natural disasters can provide much-needed assistance and peace of mind. In this article, we will explore the key aspects of travel insurance and its coverage in the event of natural disasters.

Importance of Travel Insurance

Travel insurance acts as a safety net, offering financial protection against unforeseen circumstances during your trip. It not only covers trip cancellations or delays but also provides medical coverage, emergency assistance, and protection against loss or theft of personal belongings. When it comes to natural disasters, having travel insurance becomes even more crucial.

Coverage for Natural Disasters

Travel insurance policies vary in terms of coverage for natural disasters. Some policies explicitly include natural disasters as a covered event, while others might require additional coverage or specific policy add-ons. It is essential to carefully review the policy’s terms and conditions to understand what is covered and what is not.

Types of Travel Insurance

There are different types of travel insurance policies available, such as trip cancellation/interruption insurance, medical coverage, baggage insurance, and emergency evacuation coverage. When selecting a policy, consider your specific needs and the potential risks associated with your destination.

Pre-Trip Preparations

Before embarking on your trip, take the following steps to ensure adequate protection:

Research Travel Insurance Providers

Look for reputable travel insurance providers that offer comprehensive coverage and have a good track record of customer service.

Read Policy Terms and Conditions

Thoroughly review the policy terms and conditions to understand the coverage limits, exclusions, and claim procedures.

Assess Coverage for Natural Disasters

Check whether the policy explicitly includes coverage for natural disasters, and if not, explore additional options to enhance your coverage.

During the Trip

While traveling, keep these points in mind:

Stay Informed

Stay updated on the local weather conditions and any potential natural disasters that might affect your travel plans.

Follow Local Authorities’ Instructions

In case of a natural disaster, follow the instructions provided by local authorities to ensure your safety.

Contact Your Insurance Provider

If you encounter a natural disaster during your trip, promptly contact your travel insurance provider to understand how to proceed and seek assistance if needed.

Post-Trip Procedures

After your trip, there are a few essential steps to take:

Document Damages and Losses

If you have experienced any losses or damages due to a natural disaster, document them thoroughly with photographs and gather any necessary supporting documentation.

Notify your insurance provider about the incident and follow their instructions to initiate the claims process.

Tips for Choosing the Right Policy

When selecting a travel insurance policy, consider the following tips:

Assess Coverage Needs

Evaluate your specific needs, such as trip duration, destination, and activities planned, to determine the appropriate level of coverage required.

different insurance policies from multiple providers to compare coverage, cost, and customer reviews.

Consider Policy Exclusions

Pay close attention to policy exclusions, especially related to natural disasters. Some policies may have specific conditions or limitations that affect coverage in such situations.

Review Emergency Assistance Services

Check if the policy includes 24/7 emergency assistance services, which can be invaluable during a natural disaster or any other travel emergency.

Understanding Policy Exclusions

It’s essential to be aware of policy exclusions to avoid any surprises when filing a claim. While coverage for natural disasters is available in many travel insurance policies, certain exclusions may apply. Common exclusions include pre-existing conditions, acts of war, and extreme sports-related injuries. Make sure you understand these exclusions and their implications.

How to Make a Claim

In the unfortunate event that you need to make a claim due to a natural disaster, follow these steps:

  • Contact Your Insurance Provider: Notify your insurance provider as soon as possible, providing details of the incident and any supporting documentation.
  • Complete Claim Forms: Fill out the necessary claim forms accurately and provide all requested information.
  • Submit Supporting Documents: Gather and submit any required documents, such as receipts, police reports, medical records, and proof of travel arrangements.
  • Follow Up: Stay in touch with your insurance provider throughout the claims process and promptly respond to any requests for additional information or documentation.

Travel Insurance and Extreme Weather Events

Extreme weather events, including hurricanes, floods, and snowstorms, can significantly disrupt travel plans. When selecting travel insurance, consider policies that explicitly cover trip cancellation or interruption due to weather-related events. Additionally, look for coverage that includes reimbursement for additional expenses incurred due to delayed or canceled flights.

Case Studies

Here are a few real-life examples highlighting the importance of travel insurance coverage during natural disasters:

Case Study 1: Hurricane Disruption

Jane had planned a vacation in a coastal region but was forced to cancel her trip due to an approaching hurricane. Thanks to her travel insurance policy, which included coverage for trip cancellation due to severe weather conditions, she was reimbursed for her non-refundable expenses.

Case Study 2: Medical Evacuation

John was traveling in a remote area when an earthquake struck, causing injuries to him and his travel companion. Fortunately, their travel insurance policy included emergency medical evacuation coverage, which ensured they received prompt medical attention and were safely transported back home.

These case studies illustrate how travel insurance can provide essential support during unforeseen natural disasters, offering financial protection and assistance when needed the most.

Travel insurance is an essential consideration when planning any trip, especially when it comes to natural disasters. It provides financial protection, medical coverage, and assistance during unforeseen events that can disrupt travel plans. By carefully reviewing policy terms, understanding coverage for natural disasters, and following the necessary procedures, travelers can ensure they are adequately protected throughout their journey.

Don’t let the unpredictability of natural disasters hinder your travel plans. Invest in comprehensive travel insurance and embark on your adventures with confidence, knowing that you have a safety net in place.
