O2 reveals most popular tours of 2023 as Priority Tickets platform delivers record sales

O2 reveals most popular tours of 2023 as Priority Tickets platform delivers record sales

O2 has reported a record-breaking year in 2023 for live entertainment with 1.4 million tickets sold through its Priority Tickets platform.

Beyoncé ’s latest tour came out on top as the most popular event of the year. The data covers sales for tickets to events that happened in 2023 or are happening this year.

The results show how the live entertainment industry has continued to bounce back from the impact of the pandemic, as well as the sector’s resilience amid the ongoing cost of living challenges.

Tickets purchased through Priority experienced a 15% increase in 2023 compared to the previous year. O2’s customer generosity programme that provides O2 and Virgin Media broadband customers with 48-hour early exclusive early access.

In 2023, Priority gave customers exclusive access to 6,000-plus shows and 2,000 artists at more than 300 venues across the UK, from The O2 and O2 Academy venues to hundreds of other venues across the country. Other benefits include merch discounts, cloakroom services and VIP hospitality.

The Top 10 most sought after Priority Tickets shows of 2023 were:

Beyoncé: Beyoncé Renaissance World Tour Madonna: Madonna Tour Micky Flanagan: Micky Flanagan: If Ever We Needed It SZA: SZA SOS Tour Girls Aloud: Girls Aloud Reunion Tour Post Malone: Twelve Carat Tour Noah Kahan Rick Gervais: Armageddon The 1975 Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band

Throughout the year, O2 and Virgin Media broadband customers also got access to free and exclusive gigs with artists including Kylie Minogue and Anne-Marie as part of the company’s Priority presents gig series at O2 venues.

In 2023, O2 experienced more than 200,000 in-app customer engagements for the chance to attend a Priority gig. The series of intimate shows will continue in 2024.

Jim Campling, president of Live Nation UK’s marketing partnerships, said: “We’ve had the privilege of working closely with O2 since 2005 and are proud of the continued value Priority Tickets has created for customers across the country. The strength and success of the platform is a true testament to the longevity and unique nature of live music experiences. We look forward to an exciting future with O2 and their Priority members as live entertainment continues to be a cherished part of people’s lives and communities.”

Paul Samuels, executive vice president at AEG Global Partnerships , said: “The demand for live entertainment remains incredibly strong, and we’re thrilled to be at the forefront of catering to that demand alongside our O2, and to see Priority Tickets sales at the venue continuing to grow each year after nearly 17 years of successful partnership. 2023 was also our best ever year for Priority Tickets at The O2, with over 400,000 tickets sold to O2 and Virgin Media broadband customers through the platform for shows at the world’s busiest venue. With plenty of world-class artists already announced for this year at The O2, including multiple nights of Take That , Girls Aloud, The Killers, and more, we’re looking forward to working together to deliver even more unforgettable moments for fans in 2024.”

Here, Gareth Griffiths, director of partnerships and sponsorship at Virgin Media O2 , reflects on the success of Priority Tickets and shares his outlook for 2024…

How has the Priority offering evolved in the past year? What are the insights on customer behaviour on the platform in 2023?

“2023 was a record-breaking year, our biggest ever with over 1.4 million Priority Tickets sold to O2 and Virgin Media broadband customers, 15% up on 2022. We’ve also evolved how we work with artists through Priority presents, our exclusive gig series at O2 venues.

“Over 110,000 customers applied to see Kylie Minogue at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire last September, and we’re bringing even more exclusive shows to our venues across this year. We’ve been running pre-sales in the UK since O2 Wireless Festival in 2005, we’re 19 years in now, so I’m pleased we’re going from strength to strength, working closely with our fantastic partners at Live Nation and AEG.”

We know the artists our customers love, and we have strong and longstanding relationships within the music industry Gareth Griffiths

What was behind these record results for Priority? What's driving the sales performance?

“No one does pre-sales like O2. We know the artists our customers love, and we have strong and longstanding relationships within the music industry. We also have a customer base that is now 50% of UK homes, so our reach and scale is unrivalled. Priority has a presence in our 300 high-street stores, and we have a fantastic set of O2 venues such as The O2 in London and nationwide through our O2 Academy network.

“In 2023 alone we gave our customers exclusive access to over 6,000 shows and 2,000 artists at more than 300 venues across the UK. This kind of access isn’t available on any other reward platforms and it’s something we’re extremely proud of.

“Being able to offer our customers 48-hour early access to the very best talent and shows around, as well as exclusive discounts across food, retail and travel to make their experiences even more unmissable are all part of Priority’s success. From the option to skip the queue to free phone charging and access to VIP O2 Bluerooms once you’re in our venues, Priority is central to the whole experience.”

How resilient is the UK live market proving to be since the return after Covid?

“We saw a record number of tickets sold through Priority in 2022 with a further 15% increase in 2023 which shows that fans of live entertainment are back in full force post-covid. Our partners and their venues have also experienced high performing ticket sales as consumers and gig-goers continue to prioritise spending their disposable income on live music and events. Nothing beats the live experience. Our Priority Tickets sales are testament to that.”

What's the outlook for Priority sales in 2024?

“Every year we set out to provide our customers with even bigger and better access to the hottest talent and events available and 2024 will be more of the same. We’re also looking to increase our reach in terms of venues this year, plus several Priority presents shows in O2 venues. 2024 has already got off to a fantastic start, the show pipeline at The O2 is as good as I’ve ever seen it and our O2 Academy venues are packed out.”

Are there further plans for the platform in 2024?

“2024 we’re refocusing our energy and leaning into what makes Priority really stand out – access. This will include VIP access to money-can’t-buy gigs and backstage meet-and-greets, early access to Priority Tickets and unique entertainment experiences across music, gaming and sport – everything our Priority members know and love. With a few surprises along the way.”

How to book tickets for the O2 Arena London and how to find what's on listings

  • 17:02, 14 JUN 2022

Justin Bieber performing at the O2 Arena

The O2 Arena is one of London's largest music venues with some of the world's biggest artists performing there regularly. A staple in any A-lister's music tour, the North Greenwich venue has a capacity of 20,000 and the building is packed with restaurants and bars to spend time at before a gig.

While ticket bookings can be made in person at the box office, the vast majority of people will book theirs beforehand through a third party website such as Ticketmaster and See Tickets. With Priority O2 there are certain benefits for customers of the mobile network including early access to some gigs.

MyLondon has pulled together all the information you need on booking tickets for the O2 Arena, the venue's seating plan and where to get the best view. See our full guide below with links to book tickets and see what's on.

How to book O2 Arena tickets and Priority benefits

Listings of events at The O2 Arena are available from the venue's website but tickets can also be booked through Ticketmaster here and See Tickets here where you can visit pages dedicated to the O2 Arena and book tickets for individual events.

To get early access to certain tickets with O2 Priority, sometimes being able to purchase them two days before they go on general sale, you need to be an O2 mobile or Virgin Media broadband customer. You can see what tickets you are able to get early access to here. You can also get exclusive access to The Blueroom bar at The O2, discounts on drinks and sometimes priority entry to avoid long queues getting in. Full details on the benefits of O2 Priority can be found here.

To sign up for O2 Priority download the app or visit the O2 Priority website. You'll need to enter your O2 phone number or Virgin Media broadband account details to prove you are a customer and eligible.

O2 Arena seating plan and best views

The very best seats at the O2 Arena are unsurprisingly the most expensive and can come with a VIP experience. American Express Advantage allows card holders to get premium seats to the side of the stage which have a clear view of the performers - typically blocks 101 and 112 which give the best view if you're seated rather than standing.. AMEX card holders can also access an exclusive lounge before the gig. You can book that here.

The seating plan at the O2 Arena in London

The other lower tiers closest to the stage tend to give the next best view so blocks 102, 103, 110 and 111 are all good bets, with upper tiers at the side - blocks 402, 403, 420, 421 - still giving a reasonable view however all the seats in the upper tier can feel very high.

Obviously the further away you get from the stage in the upper tier especially, the worse the view gets and the seats in the upper tiers opposite the stage - blocks 409 to 414 - will feel extremely far away from the action however large screens make sure you can see everything that is going on. For a good view that won't cost the Earth you can battle it out in the stalls as the closer you get to the stage the better your view, and experience, will be.

You'll feel in the thick of it and get a great atmosphere but standing isn't for everyone and you do risk a tall person with big hair restricting your view, not to mention getting shoved around a bit by anyone whose dancing is a bit overzealous.

O2 Priority has crashed as fans scramble for Peter Kay pre-sale tickets

'I broke t'internet!

Daisy Jackson

The pre-sale for Peter Kay’s long-awaited arena tour has officially crashed the O2 Priority website.

The Bolton-born comedian is set to take on a huge tour – his first in 12 years – including two nights at the AO Arena in Manchester.

Although the general sale for tickets doesn’t begin until Saturday, O2 and Three customers have both been able to access priority Peter Kay pre-sales this morning.

Except there have been a few hiccups for fans this morning, who are finding that they can’t actually get onto the sites to buy tickets.

Customers are being greeted by error messages as Peter’s tour drums up huge excitement across the country.

As he told Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 yesterday: “I broke t’internet!”

"I should only be on the news if I'm dead" Peter Kay says he "cannot get [his] head round" reaction to news he is returning with stand-up comedy show https://t.co/yoA9UIOcTH pic.twitter.com/OtrXkmkO37 — BBC News (UK) (@BBCNews) November 9, 2022

O2 has now addressed the issue with its pre-sale, saying: “We’re seeing extraordinary demand for Peter Kay. We know customers are struggling to get on to our Priority website and app before 10am, we’re working on it. Please be patient, thank you.”

One user on Twitter said: “Not impressed with O2 Priority site & app crashing an hour before presale starts. You’d have thought they have prepared for the surge in visitors for Peter Kay tickets.”

The whole of the UK trying to get on o2 priority right now #peterkay pic.twitter.com/fQ5kBNGjjd — Lee Thompson (@Bazooka_Tooth) November 10, 2022

Another asked: “What the hell…. O2 priority and Three+ are all down.. you’d have thought they would have prepared for the surge in visitors for @peterkay_co_uk tickets. What am I going to do?!”

Peter received lots of praise this week after he promised to price his tickets from just £35 to help those struggling with the cost of living crisis.

He said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best.

Tickets for Peter Kay’s nationwide tour start from £35, and will officially go on sale on Saturday 12 November at 10am – you can get yours from See Tickets .

Just a fortnight on from Manchester City releasing their treble documentary on Netflix, Manchester United have issued a timely reminder that they did it first by releasing a trailer for their own on Amazon Prime Video.

Oh, we’re about to enjoy some serious online debate and not at all petty social media spats over the next few days. Play nice, everyone…

Simply entitled 99 , the new documentary series from fellow streaming giants Amazon will cover Man United ‘s hallowed 1998/99 season, where they became the first-ever English club in history to win a treble and went down as one of the greatest teams in football history.

Considered the holy trinity of trophies in Europe – winning the first division in your country, the main domestic cup and the Champions League – the true ‘continental’ treble has only ever been completed by eight teams and the Red Devils are clearly looking to capitalise on the same media buzz as City.

Official Trailer: 𝟗𝟗 The story of Man Utd’s remarkable treble-winning season in 1998/99, told by those who were part of it. Coming to Prime Video on 17 May 📺 pic.twitter.com/CN3fzP3oMd — Amazon Prime Video Sport (@primevideosport) April 16, 2024

While Man City are still well and truly basking in the glory of achieving the incredible footballing feat, with the possibility of defending all three titles still very much on the cards,

There have been multiple productions celebrating United’s lifting that same trio of trophies in the past, from The Treble season review film released in 1999 itself to the likes of The Impossible Dream released on its 20th anniversary in 2019 and others, but this latest is set to be the comprehensive look yet.

Showing “never-before-seen footage” and featuring the stories “told by those who were there – including David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and more. documentary” – it promises to serve as the “definitive documentary” of United’s treble season.

Naturally, there’s already plenty of discussion rearing its head over which team was more impressive.

City Won The Treble last year but Guess who is having another documentary made about a 25 years old achievement… Manchester United.. no trophy to celebrate but this one we will stream and enjoy well https://t.co/uqu844liGy — OmoAWE Aded’eji (@dejiisreal) April 16, 2024
  • Football fans are debating whether Man City made a mistake selling Cole Palmer

  • Eurovision 2024 final to be screened live in cinemas across Greater Manchester

Amazon has scheduled 99 for a 17 May release date, just over a month and a half on from City releasing Together: Treble Winners , not to mention dropping the trailer itself barely a fortnight after the fact.

Although many have been quick to point out that the docuseries omits any discussion of their ongoing FFP charges – with Paddy Power even spoofing it as a Netflix true crime drama – it has received largely positive reviews for its fly-on-the-wall look at one of the best teams in the world.

Set to be fittingly spread over three parts, 99 is also being co-created by three different parties: Ventureland, Gary Neville’s production company, Buzz16.2, and David Beckham’s Leigh -based production house, Studio 99.

The latter were obviously heavily involved in the recent Beckham Netflix series , so fans of that can expect similar vibes from Amazon’s documentary on United’s own treble season and the momentous year that was 1999.

You may remember that Sweden is hosting Eurovision this year, following the Scandinavian country’s well-deserved victory at the 2023 contest with the song ‘Tattoo’ performed by Loreen.

But thanks to these live stream events, you won’t need to make the trip to Malmö to get in on the action, as you’ll just need to nip down to your nearest participating cinema instead.

Not only will the long-awaited final of the show be streamed live onto the big screen in 5.1 surround sound, but fans are invited to bring their Eurovision parties from the front room to the cinema instead, as organisers say fancy dress is “heavily encouraged” as are enthusiastic sing-alongs too.

After the epic experience at the Super Bowl and the huge demand for shows across North America, I’m happy to announce I’m coming your way as well - for shows in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin. This tour is both a celebration of the past 30 years and a glimpse into the future. We are just getting started!"

Usher will be performing in celebration of his 30-year storied career including songs from COMING HOME, his ninth studio album, which was released on February 9, via mega/gamma. and became his seventh Top 10 album in the UK. Expect breathtaking showmanship, greatest hits, new classics and a night to remember.

The multi-platinum, 8-time GRAMMY award-winning, global entertainment icon left the world awed after his performance at the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show featuring special guests Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Lil Jon, H.E.R., Will.i.am and Jermaine Dupri. On the world’s biggest stage, during the most watched Super Bowl of all time, it was an epic medley of hits including “Caught Up,” “U Got It Bad,” “Love In This Club,” and “Yeah!” - showing the millions across the globe what makes an Usher show so special.
