Travelling to the Netherlands? Why not explore outside Amsterdam and head to the historic city of Utrecht? Three days in Utrecht is perfect for a fun city break and seeing most of the city’s attractions and sights.

Utrecht is the fourth-largest city in the Netherlands and offers a blend of medieval charm and a modern university city. I’ve visited this gorgeous Dutch city many times, and I love it a bit more each time I visit.

It’s renowned for its well-preserved historical centre, characterised by an intricate network of split-level canals and wharf cellars.

How to spend 3 days in Utrecht

3 days in Utrecht

Utrecht is a fun alternative to Amsterdam if you’re looking to explore other cities in the Netherlands.

It’s one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and is built along two picturesque tree-lined canals (the main one being Oudegracht).

Utrecht has a beautiful medieval centre, split-level canals, hordes of hip college students and historic architecture.

I love biking around the medical centre, stopping by trendy cafes for coffee and cake, and stopping by the many canal bars for a cheeky wine.

Utrecht things to do

car tour utrecht

It’s an underrated city with a youthful feel in the Netherlands, and it has plenty to offer visitors who want to escape the typical tourist trail.

Despite its compact feel, it’s the fourth-largest city in the Netherlands, following Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague. It is highly walkable and has plenty of biking infrastructure.

I’ve visited the city dozens of times, so check out my bumper Utrecht guide and start planning your Netherlands city break now!

Utrecht vs Amsterdam

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

Just 45 minutes south of Amsterdam, It shares many similarities with the Dutch capital. It is often called ‘Mini Amsterdam’ due to its pretty canals and well-preserved traditional Dutch architecture.

Like Amsterdam, Utrecht’s attractive, car-free city centre offers plenty of modern shops, restaurants, museums, and galleries.

This centuries-old university city is an excellent alternative to the Dutch capital. It’s just a short train ride away, offering all the beauty of Amsterdam, just a fraction of the crowds, and, to some extent, the cost.

Take a Tour of Utrecht

Utrecht has a varied and interesting history, including Viking attacks, Napoleon Bonaparte’s residency, and the city’s liberation after Hitler’s death.

The best way to understand the history of this university town is to book a guided walking tour of Utrecht .

Taking a walking tour of Utrecht on your first day in the city is best. This should help you familiarise yourself with the layout and discover the best spots.

car tour utrecht

Walking tour Utrecht

On a guided walking tour , discover Utrecht’s highlights, such as the picturesque canals, the Domtower, churches, breweries and street art.

There is no better way to get to know the city than walking along the 12th-century Old Canal Area (Oudegracht), Europe’s only inner canal system with wharves and wharf cellars.

Ask your guide to take you along the waterside to see the cellars and learn more about the canals’ history.

Have Lunch at the Streetfood Club Utrecht

car tour utrecht

The Streetfood Club is an Instagrammer’s dream, with crazy carpet prints, murals, pretty cocktails, flamingos and a decent selection of street food, brunch and dinner options.

Typical dishes include Bangkok-style papaya salad, Fried veggie spring rolls, chicken gyoza and tacos.

If you fancy a lunchtime tipple or three, the ‘made to order’ cocktails are also pretty special.

Signature cocktails include ‘Bombay Basil Bomb’ with Tanqueray Gin, cucumber and basil. Also try ‘The Silk Road’ with Vodka, kumquat and pomegranate juice.

Discover Utrecht canals

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

In the afternoon, explore Utrecht’s canals by boat. You can book a boat trip, hire electric boats, or explore the waterways on your own vessel.

The most famous canal in Utrecht is the Oudegracht, which meanders through the city’s heart.

What sets the Oudegracht apart from other Dutch canals is the wharf cellars (werfkelders), that line its banks.

car tour utrecht

These characteristic cellars were built beneath the canal houses in the Middle Ages and served as storage spaces for goods.

Many of these werfkelders have since been transformed into cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries.

You can book a City Canal Cruise and see the highlights of Utrecht’s medieval inner city.

Sip wine at Utrecht Canal bars

car tour utrecht

Finish your day at one of the many wine bars that dot the canals in the historic centre.

The canals in Utrecht are unique to the Netherlands. They have a split level, meaning there’s a lower level where warehouses were once located in the 13th century.

These former warehouses have been converted into bars and restaurants offering waterside dining and drinks right by the water.

During the summer, the canals come alive with outdoor cafes, floating terraces, and events packed with locals and visitors.

Best Utrecht canal bars

car tour utrecht

Some of my favourite Utrecht canal bars include:

  • Café Ledig Erf : Located near the historic Ledig Erf square and the Vaartsche Rijn canal, Café Ledig Erf is a local favourite with a laid-back atmosphere.
  • Cafe de Zaak : Situated along the vibrant Oudegracht, De Zaak is a cosy canal bar known for its extensive selection of beers.
  • The Malt Vault: A canal bar for whiskey lovers! Sip on a range of whiskeys inside a historic wharf cellar on the Oudegracht Canal.
  • Kafé België : Canal-side bar specialising in Belgian beers – With over 150 varieties available.

Dinner in Utrecht

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

Why not try Indonesian cuisine at Restaurant Blauw for dinner and enjoy Indonesian cuisine in a contemporary setting?

Restaurant Blauw is one of the best restaurants in Utrecht if you want to experience a traditional Indonesian ‘rice table’.

An Indonesian rice table, known as “Rijsttafel” in Dutch, comprises shared plates showcasing Indonesian dishes.

It is a dining experience that originated during the Dutch colonial era in Indonesia and has become synonymous with Indonesian cuisine.

Dutch colonizers would host lavish banquets with a variety of Indonesian dishes to impress their guests

Order a ‘meat rice table’ and feast upon a huge selection of dishes. Enjoy spicy beef, sweet soy pork, lamb curry, goat satay, beans with tofu, rice, and vegetables.

Blauw delivers authentic Indonesian cuisine with bold flavours, gorgeous colours and stylish presentation; it’s well worth a visit

Day 2 Utrecht

Utrecht dom tower.

car tour utrecht

For your second day, explore The Dom Tower , [Domtoren in Dutch], one of the most iconic sights in Utrecht.

The Dom Tower, rising to a height of 112 meters (368 feet), offers panoramic views of Utrecht. To reach the top, you must climb 465 steps, but you’ll be rewarded with an impressive vista of the city’s rooftops, canals, and historic buildings.

The construction of the Dom Tower began in 1321 as part of the Gothic-style St. Martin’s Cathedral. However, the cathedral’s nave and the tower remained separated due to a lack of funds and various setbacks.

In 1674 a severe storm destroyed the nave, leaving the Dom Tower as a stand-alone structure. Despite this, the tower has endured and is a testament to Utrecht’s rich history.

Tour of the Dom Tower Utrecht

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

Book a tour of the Dom Tower and learn how it has survived fires, occupations, storms and political change on its historical timeline.

Be aware that there are many steps to get to the top, though your journey is broken up by stopping at various levels to learn more about the tower.

Once you reach the top, you can get some amazing photos of the city and the surrounding area, so don’t forget to bring your camera!

Learn about Utrecht’s history at Dom Under

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

History fans should head to the Utrecht Dom Under experience. An underground space where you can learn about 2,000 years of Dutch history right below Dom Square.

This unique Dutch attraction allows you to explore the archaeological remains of the city’s past and uncover the secrets hidden beneath the surface.

As you descend into Dom Under, you are transported back in time to the origins of Utrecht.

The museum showcases the city’s history, from its Roman foundations to the medieval era.

Through interactive exhibits, multimedia presentations, and archaeological artefacts, Dom Under brings the past to life and provides a fascinating glimpse into Utrecht’s rich heritage.

Dom under experience

car tour utrecht

The atmosphere within Dom Under is carefully curated to evoke a sense of mystery and discovery.

Dim lighting, atmospheric soundscapes, and preserved archaeological remains contribute to the immersive experience.

Dom Under bridges the surface and the underground, seamlessly blending modern technology with historical artefacts.

The combination of interactive displays and informative narratives makes this museum an educational and memorable experience.

Lunch at PK bar & kitchen Utrecht

Have lunch overlooking the water at  PK Bar & Kitchen , an upmarket Utrecht bar with great food and tasty dishes.

Their lunch menu consists of several reasonably priced dishes, including Vegetarian quiche, Smoked salmon prawns, grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers.

This centrally located venue has a relaxed vibe, making it ideal for a lazy lunch in Utrecht.

Explore Utrecht by bike

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

Spend the afternoon exploring Utrecht by bike and navigate the city cycle lanes and expansive countryside trails.

Bike culture in the Netherlands is deeply ingrained in society and has become a defining characteristic of the country.

Here, you’ll find well-maintained bike paths, bicycle-friendly infrastructure, and a population that embraces cycling as a way of life.

Is Utrecht good for cycling?

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

Utrecht is a fantastic place for cycling, and it was named the most bike-friendly city in the world for 2022.

The city’s cycling infrastructure is excellent, with extensive, well-maintained bike lanes that make navigating the city a breeze.

One of the standout features of Utrecht’s cycling infrastructure. Its innovative system is designed to guide cyclists to free spaces in bicycle parking facilities.

This system helps manage the flow of cyclists in and around the city centre, making it easier to get around.

How to rent a bike in Utrecht

car tour utrecht

Utrecht has numerous bike rental options , including bike-sharing programs, rental shops, and even self-service bike stations.

The city has many bike rental shops where you can call in and hire a bike. Look for bike shops near major train stations or prominent tourist areas like the Dom Tower.

Many rental shops offer online bike reservations. Browse bike rental websites, and select your preferred bike type, rental duration, and additional accessories.

You can also go on a bike tour if you want to be guided around the city.

Utrecht bike Tour

car tour utrecht

See Utrecht like a local and explore the city on a guided bike tour with an expert cycle guide.

I love going on guided bike tours in new destinations. Especially those led by experienced local guides with in-depth knowledge of a city’s history, culture, and hidden spots.

A good bike guide can provide insights and anecdotes about the city. They can take you off the beaten path to discover lesser-known attractions and share insider tips.

It’s also an efficient way of exploring a new place, as you don’t have to worry about planning the route.

We went on a brilliant guided bike tour of Utrecht . On this fun tour, we visited the oldest Dutch bicycle lane, learnt about the city’s history, and stopped for ice cream.

Dinner at Stan & Co Utrecht

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

Enjoy dinner at Stan and feast on meaty dishes cooked on the charcoal-fired Josper grill. Located in the centre of Ganzenmarkt, this hip restaurant offers a range of expertly shaken cocktails and delicious dishes.

For mains, choose from steaks, burgers, salads, and fish dishes. Make sure you bring your appetite with you; their portions are generous.

They also have a decent selection of plant-based foods, including veggie burgers, Buddha bowls and gyozas.

The vibe and deco make it a relaxing and fun dining place, especially as the staff are friendly and attentive.

Day 3  Utrecht

Discover Dutch art at the Centraal Museum Utrecht

car tour utrecht

Founded in 1838, the Centraal Museum houses an impressive array of paintings, sculptures from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Here, you can explore works by Dutch masters such as Gerard van Honthorst and Abraham Bloemaert.

You’ll also find artworks from internationally acclaimed artists like Joop Moesman and Marlene Dumas.

These artworks offer a glimpse into the rich artistic heritage of Utrecht and its contributions to the wider art world.

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

Design enthusiasts will love the Centraal Museum’s applied arts and design collection.

The museum showcases furniture, textiles, ceramics, and fashion items, reflecting the evolution of design from the 19th century to the present.

It also holds a vast collection of Gerrit Rietveld’s furniture, a pioneering Dutch architect and designer associated with the De Stijl movement.

Visit the Rietveld Schröder House

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

The Rietveld Schröder House is the architectural highlight of the De Stijl art movement, and it is decorated with bright, primary colours.

The iconic house was designed and decorated in 1924 by Utrecht architect Gerrit Rietveld for Mrs Truus Schröder and her children.

The UNESCO World Heritage Listed house was a private residence until 1985 but is now open to the public for guided and audio tours.

The house is characterized by its open-plan layout, flexible interior spaces, and innovative use of colour.

It features movable partitions and furniture, allowing the occupants to adapt the space according to their needs.

Rietveld Schröder House Tickets

car tour utrecht

You can buy Rietveld Schröder House Tickets online ; every visitor needs a time slot ticket.

Be warned: The house tours are timed, so arrive a few minutes before your ‘timed slot’. The staff here will be rather stern if you are late!

Our guide demonstrated the transitions between interior and exterior and the clever use of space and light in the house by sliding various walls and pointing out cleverly designed furniture.

It’s an impressive house, but the novelty may wear off quickly unless you are an architecture enthusiast, despite the guide’s excitement over the ‘speaking tube’.

Lunch at Restaurant Vroeg Utrecht

car tour utrecht

Hop on a rented bike and cycle to Restaurant Vroeg for lunch in the Dutch countryside. This relaxed dining establishment contains a restaurant, bakery and shop in one location.

There’s a strong focus on quality, local produce, and seasonality, and the menus feature ever-changing ingredients and dishes.

You can watch delicious, homemade dishes crafted in the central open kitchen or sip wine in their outdoor seating area. It’s one of the best places for outdoor dining in Utrecht.

Typical tempting lunchtime dishes include Charcoal-grilled hamburgers with mozzarella and tomato chutney, butter-fried sole fish with salad and fries and club sandwiches.

Visit Amelisweerd nature reserve Utrecht

car tour utrecht

After lunch, jump back on your bike and head to the beautiful Amelisweerd nature reserve – around 3 miles from the centre of Utrecht.

Covering an area of approximately 400 hectares, Amelisweerd has diverse habitats, including ancient forests, meadows, wetlands, and historic estates.

The reserve is home to many plant and animal species and has a network of well-maintained walking and cycling trails.

Hiking in the nature reserve is one of the best free things to do in Utrecht, especially if you pack your own picnic.

Rent a canoe at Amelisweerd

car tour utrecht

Rent a canoe from De Rijnstroom canoe rental and paddle down a gentle river under a lush forest canopy.

You can book a range of Canadian canoes, rowing boats, electric boats and sups online and explore the river at your own pace.

Along the way, you can stop and picnic at one of the picnic fields you will pass. Or you can have Restaurant De Veldkeuken or feast upon pancakes at the Rhijnauwen tea house .

Have pancakes at Rhijnauwen tea house

Utrecht Guide | 3 days in Utrecht

What is a more Dutch thing to do than eat a pancake for dinner? Try a Dutch pancake at the Rhijnauwen tea house , located in Amelisweerd.

Dutch pancakes (pannenkoeken) are a must-try traditional dish in the Netherlands. They are thin, large, and typically served flat on a plate.

These tasty pancakes can be a sweet treat or a savoury meal, with various toppings and flavours from cheese and ham to chocolate and strawberries.

At the Rhijnauwen tea house, you sit on their large terrace overlooking the water, feast on chocolate pancakes, and sip coffee as you watch canoeists drift by.

You can choose from a huge selection of savoury and sweet pancakes, made in front of you in the open-plan kitchen.

Planning a one day in Utrecht itinerary is one of the best ways to see a bit of the Netherlands beyond the capital. Just an hour by train outside of Amsterdam , Utrecht is the perfect day trip from the Dutch capital.

While Amsterdam is a thriving city with vibrant nightlife and culture, Utrecht is the close and friendly neighbor giving a deeper look into everyday life in the Netherlands.

Home to the largest train station in the country (Utrecht Centraal), a cyclist’s paradise without intimidation, and a picturesque medieval city center, you’ll discover that Utrecht is the Dutch city you may have never heard of but undoubtedly will fall in love with.

Table of Contents

How Many Days in Utrecht?

As the 4th largest city in the Netherlands, Utrecht is a mid-size city with a deep history, culture, and things to do. With that being said, how many days in Utrecht are ideal to do the Dutch city justice?

The city center of Utrecht is quite small, with suburban and residential areas making up a large area of the city.

With that being said, if you’re hoping to see the main sights of Utrecht and get a good understanding and visit of the city, one day in Utrecht is enough.

Moreover, if you’re planning on visiting Utrecht and would like to have more of a holistic experience, getting stuck into local life, I suggest 2 days in the city. This way, you’ll be able to explore the city center as well as wander into more residential areas or nearby areas.

Canals of Utrecht

Getting To & Around Utrecht

Getting to Utrecht from Amsterdam is extremely quick and convenient. The best mode of transport between the two cities, as well as other Dutch destinations, is by train.

Trains run frequently between Amsterdam and Utrecht, with direct connections available. The journey takes around 20-30 minutes, and you can catch a train from Amsterdam Centraal, Amsterdam Amstel, or Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA stations. You can view train schedules here .

Another option for transportation to Utrecht is to take a bus, although ticket prices are around and transportation time is a bit longer than the train, at around 30-50 minutes depending on traffic and time of day. You can view bus schedules here .

Another important factor for your visit to Utrecht is deciding how you’ll get around the city.

Fortunately, getting around Utrecht is relatively easy due to its compact size and well-connected transportation network. Utrecht has an efficient public transportation system that includes buses and trams.

You have the option of using an OV-chipkaart (public transport smart card) or purchasing a single-use ticket to travel on buses and trams.

If you mainly plan on exploring the city center during your Utrecht day trip, I think that walking is the ideal way to see the city. Utrecht’s city center is wonderfully pedestrian-friendly, and many of the main attractions are within walking distance of each other.

Walking is also a great way to explore the historic streets, canals, and picturesque medieval and modern neighborhoods.

Finally, the local’s favourite mode of transportation in Utrecht — cycling. If you are visiting Amsterdam and really would like to take a spin on the local cycling scene but are too intimidated by the busy bike lanes, Utrecht is perfect.

While Utrecht is still a busy city with many people and a lot going on, the atmosphere is much more laid back, with locals being more forgiving if you’re a visitor looking to learn the ways of the bike culture in the Netherlands.

You can rent a bicycle from various rental shops or make use of the public bicycle-sharing systems, with bicycles all around the city, from cargo bikes to simple bicycles and electric bicycles.

The city has dedicated bike lanes and paths, making it safe and convenient to cycle around, and honestly, just cycling around the city between the center and relaxed residential areas makes for a wonderful day out in Utrecht.

St. Martin's Cathedral

1-Day Utrecht Itinerary

Less than half an hour away from Amsterdam by train, Utrecht is the quintessential Dutch city to visit.

On your day trip to Utrecht, you’ll make your way through the medieval and traditional Dutch architecture, get lost in the culture, art, and quaint canals of Utrecht, and take a bite into an incredible local food scene. You can take a walking tour or a bike tour if you prefer to explore with a guide.

Utrecht Historic Center

A great spot to begin any trip to Utrecht is in the city’s stunning historic center. Compared to other European city centers, Utrecht’s is rather compact, allowing you to see all of the magical city center during a day trip without needing to rush.

Despite its small size, Utrecht’s historic center is a captivating blend of picturesque canals, charming streets, and remarkable architecture, giving a special experience in this friendly Dutch city. Spending time wandering around this area is one of the best things to do in Utrecht.

Dom Tower (Domtoren)

Easily the most recognisable monument in Utrecht and the tallest church tower in the Netherlands, The Dom Tower, an architectural masterpiece of the Netherlands, graces Utrecht’s skyline. Standing 112 meters tall in the center of Domplein Square, it offers breathtaking views of the city.

Built in the Gothic style, the Dom Tower symbolizes the city’s rich history and serves as a reminder of Utrecht’s cultural significance. For a unique experience, I suggest taking the opportunity to climb the 465 stairs to the top for unforgettable, panoramic views of the city.

A standard adult ticket to enter Dom Tower is €13.50, with reduced and free ticket options available. Tickets include access to the lower sections of the tower along with the upper section.

Dom Tower

St. Martin’s Cathedral (Dom Kerk)

Next up during your time in Utrecht, I suggest visiting St. Martin’s Cathedral, also known as Dom Kerk, a church adjacent to the Dom Tower.

Dom Kerk is a magnificent Gothic masterpiece in Utrecht with a stunning interior featuring intricate stained glass windows, ornate chapels, and a rich history dating back centuries to the middle ages.

The church is open at varying times depending on the date of the week as well as the time of year, so make sure to check the daily hours in advance before visiting.

University Quarter

Utrecht University, established in 1636, is a prestigious public research institution located in Utrecht. Situated in the lively University Quarter, this area of the city is brimming with charming and distinct corners, showcasing a side of the local culture that is not to be missed.

The University Quarter features a mix of modern and historic architecture, with charming shops such as vintage shops and trendy boutiques. Also located in the University District of the city in Janskerkhof Square, you’ll find The Janskerkhof Market.

Known for its lively atmosphere and diverse offerings, you can explore stalls selling fresh produce, flowers, local crafts, clothing, and more. It’s a great place to immerse yourself in the local culture, interact with friendly vendors, and discover unique items.

Much of the architecture in the University Quarter is some of the oldest in the city, with a unique blend of Gothic, Neoclassical, Renaissance Revival, and Modern architecture styles. The blend of architecture styles in the area shows a comprehensive past of the city, along with idyllic corners and photo opportunities.

Coffee and Apple Ball at Graaf Floris

Wandering through the enchanting city center of Utrecht in the first half of your one day in Utrecht will likely have left you ready for a sweet pick-me-up. Herein lies the perfect opportunity to try my favorite local sweet treat, apple ball, or “appel bollen”.

Dutch appel bollen are a traditional treat consisting of whole apples encased in dough and deep-fried until golden and crispy, stuffed with a cinnamon and sugar blend.

These treats are truly delicious and best enjoyed somewhere local such as Graaf Floris , a cosy traditional cafe canalside, offering great views, delicious coffee, and possibly the best appel bollen in the city.

Wander the Utrecht Canals

The canals of Utrecht are the lifeblood and soul of the city, offering a charming and romantic atmosphere. When searching for what to do in Utrecht for one day, make a point to explore the Oudegracht and Nieuwegracht canals, lined with cozy cafes, boutique shops, and bustling markets.

Another way of seeing the city through the canals, is to take a leisurely boat tour to discover hidden gems and picturesque views of the city’s architecture.

Taking a boat tour is an ideal and budget-friendly way to witness this symbolic part of the Netherlands but at a fraction of the price you would pay to do a similar boat tour in Amsterdam.

Another option is to take part in a walking tour of the city. With walking tours, knowledgeable guides will share fascinating stories, facts, and insights about Utrecht’s landmarks, architecture, and traditions giving a unique insight into the historic city.

Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the promenades, soak in the vibrant ambience and admire the beautifully restored wharf cellars.

Unlike Amsterdam, the canals of Utrecht consist of two levels, with the bottom level named the Wharf Cellars. The wharf cellars of Utrecht are historic spaces where goods were once loaded and unloaded.

Today, many of them have been transformed into unique bars, restaurants, and shops, offering a glimpse into the city’s rich trading past.

Oudegracht Canal

Dinner at Humphrey’s

For dinner, a wonderful option to take in the surrounding scenery while eating history within the Wharf Cellars is to dine at Humphrey’s, a local restaurant in the heart of Utrecht offering a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Humphrey’s is known for its fixed-price three-course menu, which provides a variety of delicious dishes to choose from. The menu features a combination of international and Dutch cuisine, prepared with fresh and high-quality ingredients for an affordable price.

Trajectum Lumen

If your Utrecht itinerary brings you into the evening hours when the sun has set, one of the most unique and exciting ways to see Utrecht and explore the city is with the artistic light route, Trajectum Lumen.

Trajectum Lumen is a free, captivating light art installation in the heart of Utrecht that is a distinctive display within the city and the perfect way to end your day.

This nighttime experience takes you on a mesmerizing journey through the city’s canals and streets, highlighting its landmarks with enchanting light installations. Follow the designated route to witness the stunning transformation of bridges, buildings, and hidden corners into works of art.

Trajectum Lumen showcases Utrecht’s beauty in a unique and immersive way, offering a magical experience that will leave you awe-inspired. Trajectum Lumen begins after dark and the route of the installations begins in the central point of the city, Domplein Square.

From there, you’ll want to look for the starting signs for the route which then will lead you through the light exhibits in their entirety throughout the city.

Have More Time?

If you have more than one day in the city and are looking to further enhance your trip, there’s still much to see and explore, both in Utrecht and in other nearby areas.

Utrecht has a wide array of unique museums where you can learn more about the history of Utrecht that can be worth visiting if you have a longer period of time:

The Centraal Museum , located in the historic center of Utrecht is a wonderful option. The museum features a wide collection of art from artists worldwide along with a dense collection of art from local Dutch artists spanning from the Middle Ages to contemporary works, including Dutch Golden Age paintings and exhibitions.

For architecture enthusiasts, the Rietveld Schröder House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important part of architectural history. The house itself was designed by renowned Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld in 1924 and is an iconic example of De Stijl architecture that at the time was beyond its’ years in the current architectural style.

The house showcases Rietveld’s innovative use of space, geometric forms, and primary colors and offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of modernist architecture and its impact on design.

If you’re keen to spend time in one of the city’s many green spaces to take an airy break during your stay, one of the best parks in Utrecht is the Griftpark.

Located in the northern part of the city, this spacious park offers a peaceful retreat from the urban bustle, along with outstanding panoramic views of the city thanks to its elevated spot in Utrecht.

And if you’re a fan of fairytale-like castles, then make sure to venture a bit outside the city center to visit De Haar Castle . Though it was only built in the 19th century, its medieval style and beautiful grounds are certainly impressive.

For those looking to venture further out into a nearby city/town, I highly suggest visiting the medieval city of Gouda as a day trip from Utrecht, just about 20 minutes by train from Utrecht.

Gouda is a charming city that offers a rich blend of history, culture, and delicious cheese that, yes, is even more delectable when you taste it from its source! While in Gouda, visit the historic City Hall and the magnificent St. Janskerk, famous for its stained glass windows.

Explore the picturesque canals, enjoy a few cheese tastings, and savor the city’s delightful atmosphere and medieval city center.

Utrecht is one of the most delightful cities in the Netherlands, which deserves much more attention than it gets under the shadow of Amsterdam. Spending time in this city full of both old and new with friendly locals is truly a highlight of any trip to the Netherlands.

Utrecht is an amazing city, where you can pretty much find anything your heart desires. Hip restaurants, the typical Dutch canals, it is small enough to quickly travel from one site to another and if you want to, you can still be in Amsterdam within half an hour.

There is definitely enough to see and do in Utrecht itself, but if you are spending some more time in Utrecht , then you might also like to discover some new places and go on a couple of day trips in and around the country.

So check out 22 amazing day trips from Utrecht !

The beautiful canals of Utrecht in the Netherlands

Day trips from Utrecht – less than 1 hour away

1. amsterdam.

If you are coming to the Netherlands as a tourist, then Utrecht would probably be your day trip from Amsterdam and not the other way around. But if that is not the case, and you are spending some more time in Utrecht instead, then a day trip to the Dutch capital of course is a must.

Amsterdam is just one of a kind. And while the city has the typical Dutch canals, touristy cheese stores and famous coffee shops, there are a lot of attractions that are unique to the city of Amsterdam . Visit the infamous Rijksmuseum or any of the other museums, or try out one of best restaurants in Amsterdam.

Time to Amsterdam from Utrecht Centraal by train: 26 minutes

2. Amersfoort

Well Amersfoort is less than 20 minutes away from Utrecht and also not the largest city, so it might not make for a complete day trip, but instead you can combine it with a trip to another city as well.

However, Amersfoort is pretty charming. You can visit Koppelpoort, a medieval gate and lovely to look at, visit the market in Amersfoort or discover some of its many Cafés and cute shops.

Time to Amersfoort from Utrecht Centraal by train: 19 minutes

The fortress in Amersfoort

You’d probably expect a cheese museum in Gouda, and of course there is one! But other than that, Gouda isn’t just a city for cheese lovers.

In Gouda , you can find a lovely market square with beautiful buildings and cafés all around. And of course you can find a lot of pretty canals and bridges. Not that uncommon for the Netherlands.

While Gouda isn’t the biggest city, and you might not need an entire day in Gouda after all, it is a great place for a couple of hours, or you can combine it with a trip to another city.

Time to Gouda from Utrecht Centraal by train: 18 minutes

4. Rotterdam

Rotterdam isn’t your typical Dutch city, and that’s okay! It would be boring if everything was the same anyway. If you are a fan of architecture, then Rotterdam might be interesting for you. Not everybody is a fan of Rotterdam at first, but it does make for an interesting day trip with lots of cool places to discover.

Walk across the Erasmusbrug, have a drink at Witte de Withstraat or food at the market hall.

Time to Rotterdam from Utrecht Centraal by train: 37 minutes

5. Den Haag

While only the third-largest city in the Netherlands, Den Haag is where the Dutch government is located. But of course that isn’t the only thing the city is known for.

There are a lot of great things to do in Den Haag , you can visit a lot of interesting museums, walk around the city centre or make your way up to the beach. But speaking of the beach, that is what we will cover later on as well.

Time to Den Haag from Utrecht Centraal by train: 37 minutes

For some reason, Delft isn’t included in everyone’s bucket list of places they need to visit while in the Netherlands, when it totally should be.

It is located in South Holland, close to Rotterdam and Den Haag and famous for its blue pottery, which, of course, you can also purchase in Delft yourself.

The heart of the city centre is its huge main square with the City Hall and lots of restaurants. Of course, there are also markets, cheese stores and canals.

Time to Delft from Utrecht Centraal by train: 57 minutes

7. Den Bosch (‘s-Hertogenbosch)

Another cute city only about half an hour away from Utrecht is Den Bosch! Here you can find a lively market square, an impressive cathedral and a lot of shops and cafés.

Make sure to try the famous Bossche Bol, a pastry covered with dark chocoloate, that originated in Den Bosch.

Time to Leiden from Utrecht Centraal by train: 31 minutes

a church in den bosch

Another beautiful city that is less than an hour away from Utrecht is Leiden. The canals are a little bigger and the city seems a little less hectic than Utrecht on a sunny day.

It feels like your typical Dutch city: canals, boats, restaurants. But really beautiful and definitely worth a visit.

Time to Leiden from Utrecht Centraal by train: 42 minutes

9. Zaanse Schans

Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam and a very popular tourist destination. Here you can find the typical Dutch windmills along the river, cute green houses, some animals and nature, as well as a couple of museums. There are many reasons to visit Zaanse Schans, you won’t believe that you are just a short train ride away from the busy streets of Amsterdam.

Time to Zaandam from Utrecht Centraal by train: 43 minutes

Zwolle is the capital of the Overijssel province and makes for a nice day trip. There are lots of green spaces around the city centre, the old town is beautiful, and it’s a good escape from the always so busy city centre of Utrecht.

Time to Zwolle from Utrecht Centraal by train: 50 minutes

11. Haarlem

If you are looking for a place similar to Amsterdam but a little less crowded, than maybe Haarlem would be a great idea for a day trip. Spend your day walking long the Spaarne river and visit the central market square (Grote markt). If you don’t want to spend the entire day in Haarlem, it is easy to combine it with a trip to Zaanse Schans, Zaandam or Zandvoort, as they are all located close to each other. However, that is the case with most places in the Netherlands.

Time to Haarlem from Utrecht Centraal by train: 47 minutes

Day trips from Utrecht – Less than 2 hours away

12. bloemendaal aan zee.

Close to Haarlem, you can find the beach of Bloemendaal aan Zee. As there is no direct train going here, it is probably a little bit less crowded than the neighbouring beach of Zaandoort, but still gets really busy on a sunny day. You can rend a surf board or just spend the day chilling on the beach.

There are a couple of beach bars, but I’d recommend making a reservation beforehand, as they can book out quickly during the summer months. While there is probably a bus going to Bloemendaal aan Zee, I would recommend renting a bike in Haarlem instead, and biking the last part of the trip. Mostly, because around Bloemendaal you can find dunes with some great biking paths, nice nature and some animals such as wild horses and cows, which are worth a visit!

Time to Bloemendaal from Utrecht Centraal: 47 minutes (train to Haarlem) and 20-minute bike ride

A seagull at the beach at Bloemendaal aan Zee

13. Scheveningen

If you are already in Den Haag, then you shouldn’t miss out on a trip to Scheveningen. Scheveningen is the most famous beach in the Netherlands and here you can find a ferry wheel, a bungee jumping tower, lots of beach bars and probably half of the Dutch citizens on a sunny day.

You can also rent surf boards and go surfing, or just spend a relaxed day by the beach. If you want to do a separate trip to Scheveningen or combine it with your trip to Den Haag is totally up to you.

Time from Den Haag to Scheveningen by tram: around 30 minutes (+37 minutes to Den Haag)

A hotel at Scheveningen beach

14. Nijmegen

Nijmegen is pretty special since it is the oldest city in the Netherlands. It is located pretty close to the German border, which is why you will also see a lot of German tourists visiting for the day.

While you are visiting, make sure to visit the market square right in the centre of Nijmegen. Also, Kronenburgerpark and Valkhof park are worth a visit as you will not only find some old ruins but also get some great views of the river from above.

Time to Nijmegen from Utrecht Centraal by train: 1 hour and 3 minutes

The market square in Nijmegen in the Netherlands

15. Alkmaar

Alkmaar is a lovely city in North Holland. Apart from its canals and traditional Dutch houses, another thing that you can find in Alkmaar is cheese. Alkmaar is mostly known among tourists for its cheese market every Friday morning. You can even see people carrying cheese on their boats along the canals, it’s quite fascinating.

Time to Alkmaar from Utrecht Centraal by train: 1 hour and 3 minutes

The cheese market in Alkmaar

16. Zandvoort

Unless you are a Formula 1 fan, or you live close by, Zandvoort is not really a place you would have probably heard of. The nice part about it is though that it is by the ocean and due to the fact that it has its own train station, you can directly reach it by train.

Unless the weather it fantastic, and you want to just lie at the beach all day, there probably isn’t enough to see in Zandvoort that would justify a whole day trip. However, on the way to Zandvoort from Utrecht you are passing Amsterdam and Haarlem.

Zandvoort would therefore be a great place to add to a trip to Haarlem for example if you don’t just want to see the canals but also want to see the beach and the ocean.

Time to Zandvoort from Utrecht Centraal by train: 1 hour and 8 minutes

17. Oostvaardersplassen

If you are looking for a day trip away from the bigger cities but don’t feel like going to the beach either, then Oostervaardersplassen might be another idea for a day trip from Utrecht . It is a nature reserve located in the province of Flevoland. You can walk around the reserve, do some bird-watching and view some wild horses and other animals.

It is only a 40-minute car ride away, but if you are coming by public transportation, it is a bit more difficult to reach. I’d recommend taking the train to Lelystad and then making a bike trip out of it. You can easily rent OV-bikes at train stations if you have a personalised OV train card.

This probably does not make up for a full day trip though. We had spent around two hours at Oostvaardersplassen and then combined the trip with a visit to Lelystad and the Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet. Why not get some shopping done when you are in the area anyway?

Time to Lelystad from Utrecht Centraal by train: 1 hour and 15 minutes + 35-minute bike ride from Lelystad to Oostvaardersplassen

18. The tulip fields near Lisse

You might have heard about the famous Keukenhof , but there are other ways to see the tulips in the Netherlands. Of course, these can only be seen during the tulip season (from March to the middle of May).

And since the last day trip idea to Oostervaardersplassen included a bike tour, here is another trip that you can do by bike!

The way we did this day trip was to take the train to Leiden, rent bikes at the station and then drive to the tulip field close to Lisse (about 12 km) and we then crossed a little town called Noordwijkerhout (maybe another 20 minutes biking). After, we went to the beach in Nordwijk (6.6 km), before biking back to Leiden along the coast (over Katwijk, around 16.9 km).

I would highly recommend this day trip, it was a much more exiting way to see the tulips, than to just visit the Keukenhof!

Time to Leiden from Utrecht Centraal by train: 42 minutes + a round 45 minutes biking to the tulip fields

The tulip fields near Lisse

19. Antwerp

Did you know that it is absolutely possible to also do a day trip to Antwerp ? Even though it is located in Belgium, it is less than a two-hour train ride away! It is also one of my favourite day trips from Utrecht.

While in Antwerp, head to the Chocolate museum (Chocolate nation), the biggest Belgium chocolate museum in the world. In Antwerp, you can also find one of the oldest animal parks in the world, the Antwerp zoo.

Other than that, make sure to check out the beautiful big square, the heart of the city of Antwerp. Apart from traditional houses, you can find restaurants, bars and the city hall. While you can certainly spend a couple of days in Antwerp, it is completely doable to see all of its main highlights within one day!

Time to Antwerp from Utrecht Centraal by train: about 1 hour and 50 minutes, depending on the train connection.

The main square of Antwerp

Day trips from Utrecht, you should rather do by car

20. harlingen.

Harlingen is located in the province of Friesland, in the North of the Netherlands. From Utrecht, it is reachable by public transportation, but it would take you around 3 and a half hours, which is in my opinion a little too long for just a day trip.

However, if you do want to visit Harlingen by car instead, it is perfectly doable in a day. It will take you around two hours to get there. And while that might seem like a lot as well, one thing I liked most about my trip to Harlingen, was the trip there. On the way to Friesland you can drive over the Afsluitdijk , a 30 kilometre long dam with the Wadden sea on one and the Ijsselmeer on the other site. Along the way, you can stop at some lovely view points.

But not only the way to Harlingen is nice, but also Harlingen itself is worth a visit. It is located by the sea, so you can spend time by the beach. It definitely is not as crowded as other beaches such as Scheveningen. There is a harbour as well with lots of big sailing ships going in and out which is great to watch. My favourite part about the city is that along the canals you can actually find huge sailing ships in front of houses instead of smaller boats like in Amsterdam. That is pretty amazing to see!

Time to Harlingen from Utrecht by car: around 2 hours

Harlingen in Friesland in the Netherlands

Of course, Ghent is not located in the Netherlands, but who said a day trip from Utrecht to the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium isn’t doable in a day. It might be a bit of a hassle to get to Ghent with public transportation, but if you do have a car available, then a day trip to Ghent is perfectly doable.

Even though it is the third-biggest city in Belgium, you will definitely be able to see all of its highlights in just a day. Everything is walkable and all the highlights are located in proximity to each other.

While in Ghent , visit the Castle of the counts, a fortress located in the city centre, walk through the old town and enjoy some typical Belgium fries and beers.

Time to Ghent from Utrecht by car: around 2 hours and 20 minutes

The city of Ghent in Belgium

22. Zeeland and the Delta works

Zeeland is a Dutch province located in the southwest of the Netherlands. It is one of the places you would be most likely to spot some seals in the Netherlands and apart from beautiful beaches and nature, you can also find the Delta Works in Zeeland ( Dutch: Deltawerken ): The largest storm surge barrier in the world.

The Delta Works include several construction projects, such as dams, sluices and storm surge barriers to protect the country from floods. This was especially necessary after the North Sea flood in 1953 which caused severe damage and many lives were lost.

If you want to learn more about the Delta Works, you can visit the Deltapark Neeltje Jans , where you can learn more about the history and construction of the Delta Works.

Time to the Delta Works from Utrecht by car: around 2 hours

car tour utrecht

And this concludes 22 amazing day trips from Utrecht . Of course, if you have a little bit of more time, you can also consider an amazing weekend trip from Utrecht . Which of these destinations around Utrecht is your favourite, and where have you been to already?

Have a lovely day,

History of De Haar Castle

De Haar Castle: A Perfect Day Trip from Utrecht to the largest castle in the Netherlands | #DeHaarCastle #CastlesofEurope #Utrecht #TravelEurope

De Haar Castle was initially built in the 13th century. In 1892, Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar commissioned the famous Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers (who designed the Rijksmuseum and the Amsterdam Centraal Station) to renovate the despaired medieval castle . Cuypers designed the entire complex – including the interiors, garden and chapel – and even the village of Haarzuilens. Although not everything is original, every corner of this largest castle in the country is elaborately decorated.

De Haar Castle is no longer the primary residence of the Van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar family. However, it has been a century-old tradition to spend a month every year in September. In that month, the baron and baroness threw lavish house parties for international guests – fashion icons, Hollywood stars, and producers. Famous guests who left marks here include Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Gregory Peck, Clark Cable, Roger Moore, Brigitte Bardot, etc.

The park and gardens surrounding De Haar Castle are nestled on 135 acres. I recommend getting there early at 9 am to enjoy the park and gardens first before the castle opens up at 11 am. You can opt to buy a park permit (€7) if you just want to go picnic here.

The gardens are well-manicured and filled with colorful flowers. (Watch out for the bees, though!)

However, if you haven’t been inside, I highly recommend experiencing the lavish lifestyles of the baron and baroness. Get a Castle & Park admission (€18).

Upstairs in the more private area, among many rooms, you get to visit the baron room and the separate baroness room. It was typical for a married couple of wealthy families to have their own rooms. They also had separate his & her bathrooms and closets. (If you can afford these, they can save your marriage! Ha!)

A study room was intended for their kids to study. The entire tour group mistook it for another bedroom as we saw a bed there. The guide said the secretary used to work there, but I wasn’t sure if it was a Dutch joke or not.

De Haar Castle Guided Tour

De Haar Castle: Inside the glamorous medieval castle in Utrecht | #DeHaarCastle #CastlesofEurope #Utrecht #TravelEurope

I recommend signing up for the guided tour (€3.50) at the ticket office. While the tour is only given in Dutch (supplementary handout in English), you get to access the nooks and crannies of the castle, including the Servant Corridors.

It is essential to explore servants’ areas because they were very well treated for the standard at that time. Their rooms were furnished with order-to-made furniture. They had their separate entertainment room and a bathroom near their rooms (as opposed to one outside the castle).

The linen room used by servants is the highest point of the tower. It had the most fantastic view of the garden.

The castle used a ring system to call servants from where they were. I guess it was pretty high-tech to wire a bell system in the castle for that time.

I enjoyed visiting De Haar Castle from Utrecht. The medieval castle and park is a gorgeous site to spend a half-day whether you want to go picnic or tour the castle (or both!). Take your time to appreciate all the intricate details of the interiors and relive the lavish lifestyle of baron and baroness. A perfect day trip from Utrecht, would you agree?

Utrecht car rental information

Cheap car rentals in utrecht, kayak’s top tips for renting a car in utrecht.

  • Suppose you’d like to tour Utrecht extensively. In that case, you should rent a car from one of the car rentals in Utrecht. This is because, with a rental car, you’ll be able to move from one local attraction to another directly and quickly. Some of the top destinations you can drive to while in Utrecht include Castle De Haar, a rebuilt medieval-style castle with expansive gardens; Rietveld Schröder House, a world-heritage listed house; Museum Speelklok, a museum of music-making machines; and Nationaal Militair Museum, an aviation and military history museum. Alternatively, you can take short road trips to nearby towns such as Woerden, Driebergen, De Bilt, Zeist, Houten, Bilthoven, Stichtse Vecht, Bunnik, Maarssen, and IJsselstein.
  • If you’re flying into Utrecht, you’ll alight from your flight at Schipol Airport, as this airport is the closest to the city. At this airport, you can easily rent a car, as it features counters for Utrecht car rentals such as Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt. These agencies are found in Schipol Plaza, directly behind Arrivals 3. At the counter of your preferred car rental agency, you’ll get all the help you need to finalize your rental agreement, as the counters at this airport are manned by professional staff.
  • You will find driving your car rental in Utrecht a walk in the park. This is because this city’s roads are wide, well-tarmacked, have proper paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and feature visible road signs. However, while driving in this city, you should maintain a low speed, cut out any distractions, constantly scan your surroundings, stay patient and avoid abruptly changing lanes even behind a slow car, maintain a safe distance between you and the car ahead, and never go on the offensive. Adopting these driving techniques is relatively essential, given that not all Utrecht motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians fully adhere to traffic rules.
  • In Utrecht, one of the key challenges you’ll face is traffic. This is because a good number of this city’s residents depend on their cars to move around. In the morning, traffic usually occurs from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, while in the evening, it occurs from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. GPS navigation systems usually assist drivers to be aware of the traffic situation in the cities they are in. This being the case, if you’d like to avoid getting stuck in traffic, you should ask for a GPS navigation system to be installed when renting a car from your preferred car rental in Utrecht.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Amy Roloff and Husband Chris Marek Tour 10,000-Square-Foot ‘Dream’ Retirement House with 6-Car Garage

The TLC stars weigh the pros and cons of the sprawling abode on Tuesday’s new episode of ‘Little People, Big World’

  • Amy Roloff and her husband Chris Marek tour a potential dream retirement house on Tuesday’s episode of Little People, Big World
  • Chris also sees the massive abode as a business opportunity to host events, while Amy admits that the property is outside of their budget
  • The pair are blown away by the space but agree that it would require a lot of maintenance

Amy Roloff and her husband Chris Marek are thinking big when it comes to their retirement!

On Tuesday’s new episode of Little People, Big World , the TLC stars brought viewers along with them as they tour a massive 10,000 sq. ft. house in Oregon. The scene begins with Roloff and Marek discussing the pros and cons of the property as they drive over.

“I’m worried that this house is a little outside our budget, but it’s good to look at and see,” Roloff says.

“I think the first step is to see if we like it and if we do, work out how we pay for it,“ Marek counters, adding that seeing Amy's ex Matt Roloff ."get so far along on his dream house reminds us that we’re not in our dream house yet. So we’re actively watching and it would be nice to find that home before we retire.”

Amy then admits that the home they’re about to look at, which boasts a six-car garage, is bigger than they need but it’s more up their alley.

“We’re used to having a little more space,” she says. “An acre would be nice. I would eventually like a home with a master on the main. We’d love a three-car garage.”

Upon entering the six-acre property, Amy immediately notes the long, beautifully landscaped driveway, but worries about the maintenance it may require.

As they pull up to the home, they are both blown away by the spacious entryway and stunning rural view from the back windows.

“I think it looks better than the pictures,” Marek says.

While Amy is looking for a permanent home to retire in, her husband sees the sprawling abode as a business opportunity.

“It seems like this would be a good venue for weddings,” he says. “Not a lot of people around, you know, beautiful farmland.”

Amy understands where her husband is coming from but admits that she doesn’t want to be working “until I’m 85” just to afford it.

In a confessional-style clip, Amy reveals her excitement about sharing this new experience with her husband.

“I think Chris and I, we’re still learning about each other,” she explains. “This will be the first time that we’re making some really major decisions together. I think this is kind of fun and exciting to see how we work together.”

After the pair tour the kitchen, bathroom, primary bedroom and movie room, she sighs and says: “This is high maintenance, man.”

Also during the scene, she compares the home to her ex-husband Matt's property, Roloff Farms , where she and Marek tied the knot in 2021.

“10,000 square feet is big. I think the ‘Big House’ at the farm is a little over 5,000 square feet. And I thought the farmhouse was plenty of space as well,” she says.

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Amy previously owned a portion of the farm and lived there until she and Matt divorced in 2016 . The exes share four children together — twins Zach and Jeremy , 33, a daughter named Molly, 30, and another son named Jacob , 27.

While both have moved on with new partners , Matt revealed that he was planning to leave the farm to his ex-wife during the season 16 premiere of Little People, Big World after he had a falling out with son Zach.

Little People, Big World airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.

  • only1jva 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Unrivaled Experience My first trip to Amsterdam was for business and lasted only a few days. For this second trip I wanted to make sure I experienced more of what Amsterdam has to offer. Especially since on this occasion I would be celebrating my birthday. I have used City Unscripted before and chose to use them again because I certainly enjoy the 1:1 nature and personalization they put into their tours. On this instance I chose a Beer Tasting tour and I was matched with Alan for a 3 hour excursion. Given the purpose of my visit it definitely felt it appropriate tailoring my tour around beer but Alan made it far more than that. He truly went above and beyond the description of the tour I purchased. While there was beer along the way as I requested, Alan masterfully crafted in all the historical anecdotes, stories of Amsterdam's past, and more importantly hidden gems a larger group tour could never afford you. Our day together took me to some of Amsterdam's most charming brown pubs and introduced me to the magic that is cheese dipped in mustard. We sipped on some of the finest beer I've tasted together with shots of Geneva. More importantly I experienced life as a native in one of Europe's most vibrant cities. Alan was truly a joy to spend the day with and his guidance is unrivaled. If you are looking for a guide reading notes off of a sheet and speaking to you like a teacher reading from a textbook, don't call Alan. If you are looking to experience Amsterdam with a friend, look no further. Read more Written March 11, 2024

She had absolutely no idea of the history or culture of Amsterdam. Whenever we asked a question about Amsterdam’s history she had to google the answers. Instead of taking us to museums, churches, or historic spots she took us to an apple pie place. It was such a bad tour that we had to leave before it ended because we weren’t learning or seeing anything. When we told her we were leaving she was VERY rude and started screaming at us. She left us in the middle of nowhere and didn’t accompany us to our hotel as agreed. Don’t take this tour with Annet. Read more Written November 4, 2023

She was very communicative letting us know the best place to meet and walked us through the city, sharing history, culture, art, food and how to navigate the city which was tremendously helpful. It was like we were with a friend, who was easy to connect with and was so sweet. Wendy went above and beyond and was super helpful with the rest of our itinerary. Latin music powerhouse Carin León is joining the Rolling Stones for Phoenix concert

car tour utrecht

Carin León will join the Rolling Stones at State Farm Stadium when the legendary rockers bring the Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds to Glendale, Arizona, on Tuesday, May 7.

León continues his rapid ascent after a monumental year in which he won a Latin Grammy for Best Norteño Album for “Colmillo de Leche” and released two massive hits, “Primera Cita” and “Según Quién,” both of which charted on Spotify’s Top 25 and hit the Top 30 on Billboard’s Global 200.

His latest single “Alch Si” with Grupo Frontera topped Billboard's Regional Mexican Airplay chart. And he recently completed an extensive sold-out run of U.S. arenas with his Colmillo de Leche Tour.

The 38-date run saw León performing at Los Angeles’ Crypto Arena, Newark’s Prudential Center, Houston’s Toyota Center, Miami’s Kaseya Center and more.

León recently played the Grand Ole Opry after collab with Kane Brown

León recently collaborated with country superstar Kane Brown for the song “The One (Pero No Como Yo),” which represents a milestone for both artists and a landmark crossover between American country and música Mexicana.

The song was premiered in a live performance at this year’s Premio Lo Nuestro Awards.

On Friday, Feb. 23, Brown came out to support León from the audience as he achieved a career milestone with his debut performance at Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry.

How León rose to fame as a Regional Mexican music superstar

Originally from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, León embarked on his musical journey at 15, learning to play guitar and developing skills in singing and songwriting.

In 2018, León released his debut album “Desvelada con Banda y Mariachi,” which helped him dominate the regional Mexican music scene as a performer, singer and songwriter. In 2021, his album “Inédito” topped the Apple Mexican Music chart and was named one of Billboard’s 25 Best Latin Albums of the year.

León’s awards include an ASCAP Award for the song “Me La Avente,” numerous Premio Lo Nuestro Awards (Regional Mexican Breakthrough Artist, Best Male Artist and Banda Song of the Year) and a 2022 Latin Grammy win for Best Regional Mexican Song for “Como lo Hice Yo,” a collaboration with Mexican pop group Matisse.

What to expect from the Rolling Stones Hackney Diamonds Tour

Fans can expect to experience Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood play their most popular hits, from “Start Me Up” to “Gimme Shelter,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” as well as deep cuts and music from their latest album “Hackney Diamonds.”
