Since 2001, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER have created a musical brute that embraces all the finest qualities of melodic death metal yet does not shackle them, giving them room to constantly evolve and grow. Consistently punishing with a searing visceral intensity, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER continue to inflict a cavalcade of riffs to the table, upping the stakes in technicality, melody, and sheer blunt force trauma.

British band, Carcass is an extreme metal band originally from Liverpool, England currently consisting of Jeff Walker, Bill Steer, Daniel Wilding, and Ben Ash.
Carcass was first formed in 1985 by guitarist Bill Steer and drummer Ken Owen under the name Disattack. Joined by vocalist Sanjiv and bassist Jeff Walker, they changed the name of the band to Carcass; and in 1987, they recorded a demo called âFlesh Ripping Sonic Torment.â Shortly after, Sanjiv left the group so the remaining three members split vocal responsibilities for their album âReek of Putrification,â which caught the attention of Radio 1 DJ, John Peel.
âSymphonies of Sickness,â their second album, was released in 1989 and featured more death metal than the previous album. While on tour for the album they had guitarist Michael Amott join them, eventually taking a permanent position in the band and helping with the composition of their next album, âNecrotism- Descanting The Insalubrious.â The band went through a bit of a sound change for their fourth album entitled âHeartworkâ which was released in 1993. After its release they signed with Columbia Records. Starting in 1994 the band started to record their new album, âSwansong,â however, a controversy occurred between the label and the band causing the album to not be released until 1996. But the release of âSwansongâ didnât come before the band switched over to Earache Records and broke up for a brief time, but despite the success of âSwansongâ the band could not continue together.
In September 2007 Carcass reformed with Amott, Steer, Walker and Daniel Erlandsson (who replaced Ken Owen). Their first show back in the public was the German heavy metal festival, âWacken Open Air.â Their appearance was followed by a reunion tour around the world as well as appearances made at many festivals. In 2013 the band signed a deal with Nuclear Blast with a slated EP release of âSurgical Remission/Surplus Steel.â
Live reviews
British extreme metal band Carcass is not for everyone, and definitely not for the faint hearted; however, if you can handle their face melting, body crushing, completely mind-blowing music, you should definitely check out their live show, because it doesnât even come close to the recorded versions of their songs. Despite having a few line-up changes, a short-lived disbandment and even a health scare, the band Liverpool band continues to travel the world to melt their fans faces off.
With Jeff Walker on bass and vocals, Bill Steer on guitar and backing vocals, Ben Ash on guitar, and Daniel Wilding on drums, the band is a completely unstoppable force once they get up on the stage. Their fans are just as wild as a pack of crazed, action filled followers who move and mosh so hard that it is almost dangerous if you donât know what you are doing. If you take a step to the side and watch, and take in the amazing sounds of the bandâs music you will find yourself in a completely different world. The energy is unfathomable, both from the crowd as well as the band, and you canât help but fall into all of at once.
Report as inappropriate
Before beginning, I think it is worth mentioning that Carcass are a complete niche taste when it comes to metal shows. The Liverpool band is known for identifying with the genres of extreme metal and grind-core so the live show is definitely not for the faint hearted. The mood is set before you enter with an all black stage setup and some ominous illustrations hanging low. Before they step out a blistering strobe begins and signals the beginning of an intense evening.
Having taken a large hiatus between albums, there feels as though there is an invigorated energy in new conceptual release 'Surgical Steel' and the band are clearly 100% behind this album. It is just as extreme and menacing as its predecessors yet this is just how the fanbase like it as they thrash, jump and mosh along to new tracks including 'Unfit for Human Consumption' and 'Thrasher's Abattoir'. A finale of one of the older tracks 'Heartwork' unites the whole room beneath the sinister strobes as they all launch themselves towards the front of the stage.
Blown away. It was a great show by all bands, yet I was attending to see Carcass. I've been listening to them for twenty years and finally getting to see them live was a bucket list item. Incredible show guys. Thank you for making it all the way out here to play for us. I'm so grateful! Long live Carcass! I'll be a loyal listener until I'm lowered into the Earth. Keep on Rotting In the Free World!
Completely epic performance. Carcass is relentless. Be sure to see this tour this Inter Arma and Deafheaven. 3 very different styles of metal all done flawlessly. I have been a Carcass fan since the 90's and this was a lifetime event. Better than seeing them at a festival. This show was from the heart!
Great show. Awesome venue. Great people. No problems whatsoever, just people having fun. The way concerts should be. Great sounds. Great stage presence. Awesome service. Great security. Did not feel threatened at all. Thank you!
Honestly came to see Testament and Slayer but I thought Carcass was pretty on point and think they have a lot of potential. Great opening act and will stay tuned to see what they got coming up
Carcass was amazing, I had the opportunity to get on stage with the band! Night Demon, Ghoul & Crowbar were amazing as well. I really enjoyed this experience to see one of my favorite band.
This was the best I've seen carcass, and I've seen them over 15 times. Even included a drum solo. Can't wait for a new album and return to Ohio or surrounding area

CARCASS: Australian Tour Canceled
British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS have been forced to cancel their previously tour of Australia in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The promoter of the tour, Soundworks Touring , has issued the following statement regarding the matter: "Due to the very unfortunate circumstances surrounding the Download Festival cancellation and now the newly enforced government regulations, Soundworks Touring regrets to inform the public that all appearances on the scheduled CARCASS Australian tour have been cancelled.
"This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, but one we now have no choice in.
"Ticket purchasers will receive a refund via point of purchase. We urge everyone to please be patient during the refund process. We sincerely apologise for all disappointment and inconvenience caused by these decisions made.
"We are 100% committed to rescheduling a headlining CARCASS tour to a later time frame when world health concerns settle."
Canceled tour dates:
March 20 - Melbourne, Download Festival March 21 - Sydney, Download Festival March 24 - Hobart, Altar March 25 - Brisbane, The Triffid March 26 - Adelaide, Lion Arts Factory March 28 - Perth, Slayfest
CARCASS has set "Torn Arteries" as the title of its new album, due on August 7 via Nuclear Blast . According to guitarist Bill Steer , the name of the new CARCASS LP stems from a demo tape that the band's founding drummer Ken Owen recorded when he was still a teenager. "He had a fictitious band called TORN ARTERIES and he recorded everything himself in his bedroom â guitar, and he'd actually bang on boxes and kind of scream into the mic," Bill explained to Australia's Heavy . "And the whole thing was so distorted, it kind of sounded super heavy, even though essentially you were listening to a guy with a Spanish guitar and a couple of boxes. I think Jeff [ Walker , CARCASS bassist/vocalist] appreciates the connection to the past and the fact that it was another Ken Owen classic. So that was his choice, really, and it stuck."
Steer went on to say that the "Torn Arteries" title is an homage of sorts to Owen , who suffered a brain hemorrhage in 1999 and hasn't actively played with CARCASS for more than two decades.
"I can't remember when this came up, but we were doing some press conference at a festival, and I think we all kind of agreed that even though Ken isn't playing in the band as such right now, he's kind of involved in everything we do, stylistically, because when he was so unique â when he was playing drums, his approach was just totally different," Steer said. "Also, the riffs he came up with, they were just really far out there. They were loads of fun to learn. I still think, as a guitar player, some of the stuff was very unorthodox and it was quite a challenge. That kind of influence still runs through what we do today. Just as a friendship thing, we're all still in touch regularly, and it's just been great to see Ken 's life stabilizing. Basically, he has a good standard of living and he's a happy guy."

About Carcass
Carcass follows the typical metal template in terms of its sound and delivery. Founded in 1985, in Liverpool, the band's only consistency was their lead vocalist and bassist. Totaling six album releases, the band encountered inconsistencies. Splitting up in 1996 and regrouping in 2007, the band continues on the same passage they started on.The group had split up in 1996 and regrouped in 2007 Fond of everything that's gore, dark, and cynical Carcass are the first ones to coin the goregrind genre. In a time when music styles fused and creativity sparked, Carcass has become known for blending in melodic riffs onto death metal. With morbid lyrics and gore artwork, the group produced "Heartwork" in 1993, embodying their dark music style into their band personality, showcasing vicious appearances. Evil only in their appearance and sound, the band's lyrics often focus on the animal right, as all members of the group are either vegan or vegetarian.

“Often considered one of grindcore’s founding fathers, Carcass were among the first bands of the extreme metal genre to try a different lyrical approach — one that reflected a fascination with surgical gadgets and peculiar words straight out of a med student’s textbook. Hailing from the same locale that spawned the Fab Four — in case you’ve lived under a rock for the past few decades, Liverpool — Carcass were originally formed in 1985 by singer/guitarist Bill Steer (who would later play with Napalm Death) and drummer Ken Owen. By 1987, singer/bassist Jeff Walker had signed on with the band, resulting in a deal with Earache Records shortly after. The trio then issued a pair of full-lengths that are often considered classics of the grindcore genre, 1988’s Reek of Putrefaction and 1989’s Symphonies of Sickness.” – All Music

CARCASS are the undeniable legends and forefathers of grindcore! With over 30 years of developing and crafting their sound to what it is today, releasing several classic albums in that time and changing the trajectory of extreme metal with each consecutive release. Whether it was inventing gore-grind (»Reek of Putrefaction« & »Symphonies of Sickness«) or creating the template for melodic death metal (»Heartwork«), CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken.
The hugely anticipated comeback album â Surgical Steel â, rose to the occasion and gave fans an album that held up to their classic repertoire and delivered another milestone, with every era of the band represented.

Napalm Death Team With Carcass For Australian ‘Deathcrusher’ Tour
By Emmy Mack
Napalm Death are plotting to unleash their neck-breaking brand of British grindcore on Australian fans, with a 4-date tour in April 2015, bringing their extreme metal countrymen Carcass along for the ride under the banner of the Deathcrusher Tour .
The trek will traverse Perth, Melbourne and Sydney before finishing up in Brisbane, with extra support courtesy of Perth speed demons, Extortion.
Napalm Death are headed Down Under for the first time in five years to flog their 15th studio album, Apex Predator â Easy Meat , which will see its Australian release this Friday, 30th January. To celebrate, the band have sliced off a new single from their brand new slab of metal, entitled Smash A Single Digit . Check out the official video, below.
The foursome have also recently made headlines for a very different reason, but one no less relevant to Australians: appealing to the President of Indonesia to save two members of the so-called Bali Nine, who are currently on death row. Recently elected President Joko Widodo is a big heavy metal enthusiast , and Napalm Death fan, and the band exploited that fact in a last-ditch bid to spare the convicted Aussie drug runners from the firing squad.
âAs a follower of our band Napalm Death, you would appreciate that our lyrics and ethos challenge the unbroken cycle of violence in the world, whether it comes from a state or as an individual,â wrote vocalist Mark âBarneyâ Greenway, in a Facebook post last week. âIf these things are not challenged and ultimately changed, I believe we will never truly move forward as humankind.â
Tickets to the Napalm Death and Carcass 2015 Deathcrusher Tour are on sale from Thursday, 29th January.

King Charles could visit Australia later this year, and the federal government is wondering where to take him
Preparations are beginning for a potential royal visit to Australia later this year, despite King Charles's recent cancer diagnosis.Â
The federal government is beginning talks with the states and territories about when and where King Charles and Queen Camilla might visit.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the king was planning a visit to Australia.
There had been speculation it might fall alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in October.
But the king's cancer diagnosis and treatment had appeared to throw that into question, given he has stepped back from some public duties.
The trip is not a certainty, but the government is launching at least some early preparations including taking suggestions on a possible itinerary.
Mr Albanese said talks were underway on what a visit might look like.
"Australia is preparing for a possible visit from His Majesty The King to Australia later this year," he said.
"The king has shown his compassion for Australians affected by recent natural disasters, just as Australians have shown compassion and support for the king following his cancer diagnosis.
"The king, queen and members of the royal family are always welcome in Australia.
"My government is engaging with states and territories on options for a possible royal visit."
It would be the first visit by a reigning monarch in more than a decade, since Queen Elizabeth II visited Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth in 2011 .
And it would be one of a long list of visits to Australia by Charles, who has travelled to the country 15 times in an official capacity.
His most recent visit was to open the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018, and also visit the Northern Territory.
Queen Elizabeth II visited Australia 16 times as reigning monarch.
The queen's trips would often last a week or two and take in at least a few states and territories â and often some regional centres.
