The Masai Mara National Park is one of the world’s greatest safari destinations, sharing unfenced borders with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania , and encompassing endless rolling plains, breathtaking scenery, and an abundance of wildlife. The Mara offers unrivalled views of the world’s greatest migration - a wildlife spectacle of over 1.5 million wildebeest moving in a circular direction between Kenya and Tanzania in search of grasslands that have sprouted after the rain. Each year the Masai Mara National Reserve is visited by thousands of tourists who come here to watch the exceptional population of game and the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest. Fly~in or "Flyng Safaris" as these are also known offer the convenience of getting to Masai Mara within an hour from Nairobi and are norm for certain Safari Camps in Maasai Mara which are more remote or those that only offer packaged stays including safari drives. Flights take off from Wilson airport in Nairobi twice daily and upon arrival at the airstrip in the Mara, guests are received and transfered to their respective Camp or Lodge in time for lunch. Game drives are provided in 4x4 Safari Tour Vehicles by the property.

Road Safari Tours

The most popular mode of getting to Masai Mara is by road, typically starting and ending in Nairobi, with the choice of vehicle being a 4x4 Landcruiser Jeep or the less costly Safari Minibus (Tour Van). The trip from Nairobi to Masai Mara typically takes 5 to 6 hours depending on which Camp has been booked for your tour. The benefit of a safari by road is the typically lower tour cost as well as getting to see and experience more of the real Kenyan countryside. The downside is that stretches of road on the route are of below average condition.

There are two basic types of Safari Tour vehicles used in Kenya and Tanzania for wildlife and adventure safaris. These are the Tour Minibus / Van and the 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser Jeeps. Both of these have game viewing roofs which are opened when on Safari, UHF radio calls ( useful for locating wildlife in the park and for logistics) and are fully safari customized. Masai Mara Camping Safari

Our guide was great and interacted well with the group. He had lots of animal knowledge and found us some great animals. Our transport was a van but it made it there and back and wasn't too bad for game viewing. Plenty of space for the 6 of us. Accommodation is a basic tent with bed and mossie net but was all we really needed. Meals were good and there was always plenty. While the trip is advertised as 4 days, it's only 3. I would have enjoyed having an extra day to spend in the Mara.

3 Days Masai Mara flying Safari - Mombasa

Our 3-day flight safari with Mombasa Air Safari was organized by Brian Kazungu. Everything went well. The transfer from the hotel to the airport, the domestic flights and the Governeurs Camp were a complete success! The tents of the camp are located directly on the river Mara. If you step out of the tent, you can admire hippos and crocodiles in the river. The camp has no fencing, so some warthogs ran through the tents. But occasionally hippos should be on the road at night. But no fear! There are always rangers with guns near the tents. Lunch at the camp is served outdoors. The service and the quality of the food is great! From the table you can see the Masai Mara and of course the animals! Giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs and zebras could be seen relatively close. Dinner is served by candlelight in an open tent. A very nice atmosphere! Coffee and cookies are served at the tent in the morning. Then it goes on morning game drive. We did not have the right breakfast at the camp, but in the wild on the hood of our Jeep. This is not only very adventurous, but also saves a lot of time, so that our Frühpirsch lasted 5 hours in a row! There are animals in huge herds! How many lions we saw, then we did not count! Unfortunately we have not seen a rhino, but 2 leopards. It was just unforgettable hours in the Masai Mara! We can only recommend this tour! Book with Bryan and you will spend wonderful days!

The main safari was very good we got to see 3 out of the big 5 along with other wild animals. In regards to accommodate the staff where very friendly and attended to our need but accommodate was bear minimal and cleanliness was sufficient for that I give a good otherwise it will have been more.

Sammi the driver and guide shepherded us superbly. He was caring, informative and was earnest in locating best views of the animals. Meals and accommodation were spot on although the picnic ended a little dry after being in the van for 24 hours.

The trip was fantastic. Lots of animals and vast Savana country. Our guide Simon was exceptional. He has a great knowledge of the park and the animals, is a very good driver and very friendly and humble. We stayed at Rhino Tourist camp which has everything you need.

Great experience in Masai Mara! Thanks to our guide we succeed to meet all the animals from The Big Five! Accommodation at Keekorok Lodge was nice with cosy room and good friendly service.

4-Days Masai Mara Budget Safari

All in all it was a well organised safari. Everything worked out, the staff was friendly, reliable & helpful. I would have liked a little more comfort in the accommodation, but for 3 nights it was perfectly ok. It was very kind of Gracepatt to allow me to spontaneously change my original 4-day Masai Mara safari to 3 days plus 1 day Lake Nakuru! Thanks again!!! To criticise: The two guides/driver (Izack & Francis) could have provided more information about the itinerary. For example, when & where we would have lunch/dinner. In addition, the timing should have been better adapted to the tourists. We had breakfast twice very early (06:00/06:30) & then lunch again at 14:00/14:30. 8 hours between breakfast and lunch is a very long time for Europeans. I can recommend Gracepatt & would book with them again anytime.

Overall the tour was good. There was a lot of waiting and switching cars on the first day for myself and others on the tour and was a bit chaotic. Otherwise, we did see plenty of animals and accomodation and food was good.
