Introduction

Welcome to our guide on how to change a reservation on Expedia! Whether you need to modify your hotel booking, flight details, or car rental, Expedia offers a user-friendly platform that allows you to make necessary adjustments with ease. Perhaps your travel plans have changed, or you simply need to update some information on your itinerary. Whatever the reason may be, Expedia provides a convenient solution for making changes to your reservations.

In this article, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of changing a reservation on Expedia. Our comprehensive guide will cover accessing your Expedia account, finding your reservation, modifying the details, reviewing the changes, and confirming the modifications. By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to make necessary adjustments to your travel plans without any hassle.

Expedia is a leading online travel agency, renowned for its vast selection of flights, hotels, car rentals, and vacation packages. With a wide range of options and competitive prices, Expedia has become a go-to platform for millions of travelers worldwide. Whether you’re planning a business trip, family vacation, or romantic getaway, Expedia has you covered.

Let’s dive into the details and learn how to change a reservation on Expedia!

Step 1: Accessing your Expedia account

The first step in changing your reservation on Expedia is to access your Expedia account. If you don’t already have an account, you can easily create one by clicking on the “Sign In” button on the Expedia homepage and selecting the “Create an Account” option.

Once you have signed in to your Expedia account, you will be able to view your current and past bookings. To access your reservations, click on the “My Trips” tab on the Expedia homepage. This will take you to a page where you can see a list of all your upcoming trips.

If you have multiple bookings, you can use the search bar or filter options to locate the specific reservation you want to modify. You can search by the destination, hotel name, or booking date to narrow down the results.

It’s important to note that you should be logged in to the same account that you used to make the original reservation. If you made the reservation as a guest, you will need to retrieve the booking confirmation email and follow the link provided to access your reservation.

By accessing your Expedia account and locating your reservation, you’re one step closer to making the necessary changes to your booking. The next step is to find your reservation details.

Step 2: Finding your reservation

Once you have accessed your Expedia account and are on the “My Trips” page, you will need to find the specific reservation that you want to change. Expedia provides various ways to locate your reservation, making it convenient and effortless.

If you have recently made a booking, you may find your reservation listed at the top of the “My Trips” page. Expedia organizes your reservations based on the upcoming travel dates, with the most imminent trips displayed first. This allows for easy access to the reservations you may need to modify as your travel date approaches.

If you have multiple bookings and your desired reservation is not listed at the top, don’t worry! Expedia offers sorting and filtering options to help you locate the specific reservation you want to change. You can sort your trips by date, price, or destination, whichever is most convenient for you.

Alternatively, you can use the search bar on the “My Trips” page to enter the necessary details. This could be the destination, hotel name, booking confirmation number, or any other relevant information you have. By entering the appropriate details and clicking on the search button, Expedia will narrow down the results and display the matching reservations.

Once you have successfully found your reservation, it’s time to move on to the next step and make the desired changes to your booking details.

Step 3: Modifying your reservation details

Now that you have found your reservation on Expedia, it’s time to make the necessary modifications to your booking details. Expedia provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to easily update various aspects of your reservation, such as dates, hotel rooms, flight options, and car rentals.

To begin modifying your reservation, click on the reservation details or “Manage Booking” option for the specific booking you wish to change. This will take you to a page where you can view the current details of your reservation.

Depending on the type of reservation you are modifying, you will have different options available. For example, if you are changing a hotel booking, you may have the option to change the dates, room type, or add special requests. If you are modifying a flight booking, you can change the departure or arrival times, select a different airline, or even add a stopover.

Expedia provides easy-to-use forms and dropdown menus to guide you through the modification process. You can select the new options you desire and update the information accordingly. If you are unsure about any changes or have specific requirements, Expedia’s customer support team is available to assist you throughout the process.

It’s important to note that certain modifications may be subject to availability and additional charges. Expedia will display the applicable fees or price differences before confirming the changes, allowing you to make an informed decision.

Once you have made the necessary modifications to your reservation, it’s time to review the changes before finalizing them.

Step 4: Reviewing the changes

After you have made the modifications to your reservation details on Expedia, it’s essential to review the changes before finalizing them. This step ensures that all the adjustments are accurate and align with your updated travel plans.

Expedia provides a summary page where you can review the changes you have made. This page will display the original details of your reservation alongside the modifications you have made. Take the time to carefully go through each aspect of the reservation and ensure that everything is as per your requirements.

Pay close attention to the new dates, times, hotel rooms, flight options, or any other changes you have made. Verify that the updated information matches your preferences and aligns with your travel needs. If you notice any discrepancies or need to make additional modifications, you can navigate back to the relevant section and make the necessary adjustments.

In addition to reviewing the changes you have made, it’s also a good idea to verify any fees or price differences associated with the modifications. Expedia will display the updated costs before you finalize the changes, allowing you to assess the financial implications of the adjustments.

If everything looks accurate and meets your requirements, then you’re ready to move on to the final step of confirming and finalizing the changes to your reservation.

Step 5: Confirming and finalizing the changes

After reviewing the changes you have made to your reservation on Expedia, it’s time to confirm and finalize the modifications. This step ensures that the updated details are officially saved and your reservation reflects the desired adjustments.

On the summary page where you have reviewed the changes, you will find a “Confirm” or “Save Changes” button. Click on this button to proceed with the finalization of your reservation modifications.

Before you confirm, take a moment to re-check all the details on the summary page. Ensure that the new dates, times, room types, or any other changes are accurately displayed. This double-check ensures that all the modifications are in alignment with your travel plans.

Once you are satisfied with the changes and have verified everything, click on the “Confirm” or “Save Changes” button. Expedia will process your request and update your reservation accordingly. You may receive a confirmation email or notification with the revised details of your reservation.

If any additional fees or price differences apply to the modifications you have made, Expedia will prompt you to provide payment information for the updated charges. You can securely enter your payment details and complete the transaction, ensuring that your reservation is fully modified and ready for your upcoming trip.

Keep in mind that once you have confirmed and finalized the changes, they may be subject to the respective cancellation and refund policies of the airlines, hotels, or car rental companies involved. Be sure to review these policies before making any modifications to your reservation.

With your changes confirmed and finalized, you can now proceed with peace of mind, knowing that your reservation has been updated to meet your revised travel plans.

What you should do if you need to change or cancel a trip

For Aussies impacted by border closures or travel restrictions, we’ve pulled together a guide on steps you can take to help manage your upcoming holiday or booked trip.

As travellers continue to navigate through these unpredictable times, we recognise support and reassurance is key in helping Aussies travel confidently again. According to Expedia’s latest Travel Companions report, over half (52%) of Aussie travellers stated that, support in cancelling and amending their trips or answering booking questions is most important to them.

Check your booking terms and conditions

Since the onset of the pandemic, many travel providers today offer flexible options to book, reschedule or cancel a trip at ease. Before changing or cancelling your plans, ensure to read the applicable terms and conditions which apply to the booking to confirm your eligibility for a free cancellation or change. To find the terms of conditions, head to the My Trips tab online or through the Expedia App, select the itinerary item and go to ‘manage booking’.

For accommodation bookings, double check whether the terms and conditions for your specific booking allows for a refund before check in. For flights, depending on the airline and the terms and conditions at the time of booking, you may be able to cancel or change your flight at no penalty and receive a full refund or a credit to be redeemed for future travel with the same airline.

How to change or cancel your bookings

  • Expedia website or App: As a first point of call, we recommend you cancel your flight, hotel, or activity through the My Trips tab online or through the Expedia App. Before cancelling your hotel booking, check to see if the booking includes a free cancellation option and you are within the cancellation window. If it doesn’t, you can still cancel, but standard cancellation policies which relate to your booking will apply. To cancel, access the booking and follow the instructions to cancel the booking. For flights, we recommend you review the terms and conditions of your flights for the latest updates before cancelling. Keep in mind that many airlines continue to revise their cancellation or change policies related to COVID-19 and those policies can be found on the My Trips page associated with your booking.
  • Expedia Virtual Agent: To help make changes or ask questions about your bookings, Expedia has improved its Virtual Agent capabilities allowing you to view your booking, check your refund status, or cancel/amend parts of your trips.

If travellers are still unable to cancel or change their booking via the online options, they can contact the Expedia customer service team on 1800 782 108.

General tips for travellers who still need or want to travel

As the situation continues to evolve, travellers should adhere to the guidance from government and public health officials.

  • Stay informed. As a first step, check the latest travel advisories and restrictions before booking and travelling. Expedia’s COVID-19 Travel Advisory tool helps travellers search for travel advisories for their origin and destination, including regulations and safety and health guidelines.
  • Book flexible travel options. Many hotels on Expedia offer free cancellation, and we’ve made it easy to find flexible options. Use our “free cancellation” and “Book Now, Pay Later” filters, which provides flexible and refundable rate options.
  • Check the fine print. Remember to check the fine print, especially when purchasing flights. Depending on what type of fare you choose, changes may either not be an option or could potentially incur a hefty fee. Be sure to read the terms and conditions of your ticket before making any purchases.

Expedia’s Cancellation Policies

Expedia’s cancellation policies are a little bit different for each of the types of vacation services it provides. Generally, though, you will either need to sign in to your account (assuming that you have one) or call their customer service department directly in order to change or cancel a booking.

Just a heads-up that some of the services we’re reviewing here have affiliate partnerships with us, so we may earn a commission if you visit one of them and buy something. You can read more about how this works at https://techboomers.com/how-to-support-techboomers .

You may also want or need to call the travel service company directly, which we can teach you all about in our tutorial on how to contact Expedia customer service . You will also generally need an account to get a refund or travel credit on anything you change or cancel.

Expedia flight cancellations

In order to cancel a flight that you’ve booked with Expedia:

  • Enter www.expedia.com into your web browser to visit the website.
  • Sign in to your account.
  • Click on the My Trips menu item.
  • Click on the itinerary to select the item that contains the flight reservation that you wish to cancel.
  • Click Manage Booking .
  • Click Cancel Flight .

In order to change a flight that you’ve already booked with Expedia, contact its customer service department at 1-800-551-2534. You may also want to contact the airline directly, or contact its customer service department anyway.

Here are some notes to keep in mind when changing or cancelling an flight:

  • Generally, you can cancel a flight booked through Expedia within 24 hours for a full refund.
  • Generally, changing a flight will result in you being charged fees by the airline. There may also be other rules or restrictions, such as having to book the new flight with the same primary passenger on the same airline, and paying the difference in ticket costs, if the new ticket is more expensive than the old one.
  • Certain flights aren’t subject to refunds. Read the rules and restrictions as part of your itinerary to find out if yours is or not.
  • Even if a flight isn’t subject to a refund, you may be able to cancel it and still receive credit for a future flight from the airline. The earlier you act, the greater the chance that this might happen for you.
  • There are certain smaller airlines that you will need to contact directly if you wish to cancel flights.

Hotel cancellations on Expedia

In order to cancel a hotel booking made through Expedia:

  • Visit www.expedia.com in your web browser of choice.
  • Sign in to your account.
  • Click on the travel itinerary you already booked which contains the hotel booking you wish to cancel, in order to select it.
  • Click on Manage Booking .
  • Click Cancel Room .

In order to change a hotel booking made through Expedia:

  • Log into your account.
  • Click on My Trips .
  • Click on the itinerary that contains the hotel booking you wish to change, to select it.
  • Click Edit next to any change you wish to make, and then make it.

You may also want to contact its customer service department at 1-800-551-2534, or contact the hotel directly. If you need more information, here some tips on cancelling or changing a hotel booking:

  • In most cases, whether or not you can get a refund for a cancelled hotel room depends on the rules and restrictions of the hotel, both in general and in relation to your specific room or type of room. These can be found at the bottom of your itinerary.
  • “Unpublished Rate” hotel rooms can never be changed or cancelled.
  • Though Expedia will not charge you any money for changing or cancelling a hotel room, the hotel itself may do so, in accordance with its own rules and restrictions. For example, many hotels charge a fee for changing or cancelling your booking within 48 hours of check-in. Acting early can help you avoid these kinds of “gotcha” fees.
  • While most things about a hotel room can be changed free of charge, certain changes, including to the room type, number of guests, and check-in or check-out dates may result in the hotel charging you change fees.
  • If changes are not available for a hotel room, you must cancel your booking and re-book it.

Expedia rental car cancellations

In order to cancel a rental car reservation that you’ve already booked:

  • Visit www.expedia.com .
  • Log in to your account.
  • Click on the itinerary that contains the rental car reservation that you wish to cancel, to select it.
  • Click Cancel this Car .
  • Review the verification notice you will receive on the next page to confirm.

You may also want to contact Expedia’s customer service department at-1-800-551-2534, or contact the rental car company directly. When cancelling a rental car reservation, keep in mind:

  • Most rental car reservations can be cancelled at any time without any sort of penalty.
  • You cannot change a rental car reservation after you book it, but you can cancel it and book a new reservation.

Cancelling a cruise on Expedia

In order to cancel a cruise booked with Expedia, you will need to contact their cruise division. They can be reached at 1-888-249-3978. You may also want to contact the specific cruise line that you’re booked with directly.

When you want to cancel a cruise booking, consider the following:

  • Most rules and restrictions for cancelling a cruise depend on the specific cruise line that you’re booked with.  Read their policies for more information.
  • Generally, you can cancel a cruise reservation, without penalty, if you do so at least 91 days before you leave.
  • If you cancel a cruise within the 90-day period before you leave, you may be charged cancellation fees.  These fees generally increase as you get closer to your departure date, so act early to avoid taking too big a hit to your bank account!

Cancelling your Expedia vacation

In order to cancel an entire vacation package, you will need to contact the customer service department directly at 1-800-551-2534. For cancelling or changing individual parts of your vacation, see the sections above.

If you’re cancelling a package, keep these tips in mind:

  • Though Expedia won’t charge you money to cancel a hotel, rental car, or activity as part of a vacation package, the companies that provide these services may charge you fees to change or cancel them, as per their rules and restrictions (which you can read in your itinerary). These fees are applied on a per-item basis, rather than on the whole general itinerary, so keep that in mind.
  • Though you won’t be charged any money to change or cancel a flight as part of a vacation package, the airline may charge you a fee to change it. This may apply if you use airline credit received from cancelling a non-refundable flight to book a new flight for the same primary passenger on the same airline (though you can change the dates, times, and departure/arrival locations).

Expedia Cancellation Insurance

There are certain travel protection plans sold by Expedia that can help you cover the fees associated with changing or cancelling your trip (or parts of it). Of course, these plans are subject to their own rules and regulations, so be sure to read those before you decide whether or not you want to purchase one of these plans. See our article on Expedia travel insurance for more information.

And that’s about all we can tell you about how to cancel or change bookings you’ve made with Expedia.

How to cancel your Expedia flight if the flight is eligible for cancellation

  • You can cancel an Expedia flight directly on the booking platform, though cancellation fees may apply depending upon the airline.
  • The US Department of Transportation requires all airlines offer free 24-hour cancellation for flights going to or from the US – this includes travelers who book their flights through Expedia.
  • Visit Business Insider's Tech Reference library for more stories .

The US Department of Transportation allows for all customers who have booked flights going to or from the US to receive a full refund on their flight if they cancel within 24 hours of booking, provided the ticket was purchased at least seven days ahead of scheduled departure. Expedia honors this rule, allowing customers to cancel reservations directly on its US website. Customers who want to cancel after 24-hours can also do so, though fees may apply depending upon the airline.

There are a few exceptions – you cannot cancel a flight online through Expedia if you booked with a low-cost carrier like Spirit or Frontier. In these cases, you'll have to call the airline directly. Expedia can also be reached by phone, toll-free, at 1-866-316-0357, or +1 404-728-8787 for customers who are already abroad.

You can also contact Expedia via the service link , which is located at the top right of the page.

The steps to cancelling an Expedia flight online are the same regardless of when you booked. To learn more about whether you're eligible for the free 24-hour cancellation, check your itinerary, which you can access at expedia.com/trips . There, you'll also be able to review the Airline rules + restrictions to learn more about any charges you'll incur if you cancel after 24 hours.

1. To begin the cancellation process, go to expedia.com/trips . Click on the itinerary that you want to modify.

2. Click on "Manage reservation."

3. Select "Cancel flight." If you're eligible for the free 24-hour cancellation, it will be written underneath the "cancel flight" link.

4. You'll be taken to the "Cancel Your Flight" page, where you'll again be prompted to confirm cancellation. If you're eligible for a refund because of the 24-hour rule, the amount that will be returned to your account will be displayed.

When it comes to Expedia prices

When it comes to expedia travel insurance, when it comes to the expedia cancellation policy, when it comes to the expedia loyalty program, when it comes to maximizing credit card points, the pros and cons of expedia recapped.

Frequent travelers likely know that there’s something better than a dream trip: a dream trip that you booked on a bargain.

The ways to save money on travel are plentiful. You can redeem hotels and airline points, or take advantage of last-minute travel deals, to name a few. And booking through third-party online travel agencies like Expedia can sometimes yield especially big savings.

Beyond just deals, Expedia has robust search filters that make finding your perfect vacation easy. It streamlines purchasing trip insurance , which can be especially important for travel these days. Plus, the Expedia Rewards program earns you points to pay for future bookings.

But booking through an OTA like Expedia is not without its drawbacks. Here's a look at some of those to help you weigh the pros and cons of booking travel through Expedia.

Video preview image

Pro: Expedia has frequent sales, last-minute travel deals and bundle discounts

Expedia deals are aplenty, whether it’s a bundling discount or a sale.

Bundling: A major component of booking travel on Expedia is the practice of bundling, where you can expect additional savings for booking more than one product (e.g., flight and hotel, or hotel and attraction ticket) in one transaction. For example, when we searched for a hotel and rental car in Miami, one five-day booking option included up to three free rental car days while another offered one free night.

A perk of booking travel through Expedia is that you select your hotel, airfare and car rental in separate steps in the process. This makes it easy to bookmark the page and compare the cost of these items on Expedia versus the cost on the company’s direct website.

Expedia payment plans: If you don’t want to pay for your whole trip at the time of booking, Expedia allows you to make smaller payments through Affirm, which is a service that offers short-term loans for online purchases. If approved by Affirm , you’ll be able to pay for your trip in monthly installments.

You can also check Expedia’s Deals page and Expedia’s Last-Minute Deals page . Both tend to offer an eclectic mix of travel deals, ranging from cheap motels in tiny towns to lavish resorts in major tourist destinations. We’ve spotted deals as high as 70% off.

» Learn more: How to find cheaper last-minute flights

Con: Booking direct is sometimes still cheaper than Expedia

Sure, Expedia sales and last-minute deals are nice, but that’s not to say that you can’t find other (sometimes better) deals for booking directly with the travel provider. Many offer their own exclusive deals — and they might save you even more than booking with online travel agencies. Compare prices across both Expedia and the specific company to ensure you’re getting the best price.

And sometimes the savings go beyond just the sticker price. For example, boutique hotel chain Ovolo Hotels offers generous amenities including free laundry, happy hour refreshments and a daily breakfast buffet — but only if you book directly with them.

Pro: You can purchase an Expedia travel insurance policy

Expedia partners with various insurance providers, depending on your individual booking, to offer trip protection.

F or flights: Expedia offers travel insurance protection options that cover flight cancellation, medical emergencies and other covered circumstances.

For hotels: Choose hotel booking protection to reimburse your stay in the case of cancellation.

For car rentals: You can add car rental damage protection for an extra per-day fee.

Coverage varies by plan, but you can typically expect reimbursement for some (or all) trip costs if your trip is impacted by covered reasons. Covered reasons typically include delays, loss, theft or damage to one’s baggage and personal belongings. You’re also typically reimbursed for covered medical expenses, including emergency evacuation if you get sick or injured during your trip.

But there are many limitations and exclusions, so read your policy’s fine print to understand what’s covered.

Expedia 24-hour cancellation

When you book a flight on Expedia, you can cancel for a full refund as long as you do so within 24 hours of booking. The U.S. Department of Transportation requires airlines to allow you to cancel a flight for a full refund if canceled within 24 hours of booking and it was booked seven days before departure.

Con: Outside travel insurance might be more comprehensive or cheaper (and sometimes free)

You can opt out of Expedia’s travel insurance and either be completely uninsured — or simply acquire your insurance elsewhere. And there are better travel insurance policies out there.

After a comprehensive review of dozens of plans that assessed factors including price and COVID-19 coverage, here are the best travel insurance policies .

What’s more, you might not even need to pay for travel insurance at all. Many credit cards offer travel insurance benefits if you paid for your trip with that card.

Pro: Expedia offers some fully refundable options

Because airlines, hotels and other travel services set their own individual policies on Expedia, change and cancellation policies can vary significantly. While it can be tricky to parse the policies for each individual property, use Expedia’s “fully refundable” search filter to limit potential bookings to those with flexible policies.

change trip expedia

For straightforward requests, use the Expedia service page to make changes and get a refund. If you’re unable to get help through Expedia’s self-service tools, other ways to get in touch with Expedia include live chat, a dedicated Twitter account ( @expediahelp ) and a phone line.

Con: Most cancellation policies are bad, confusing or both

Because airlines are required to give full refunds if you cancel within 24 hours of booking, Expedia lets you change or cancel your flight reservation without fees within the same time period.

For everything else, good luck. Because each travel provider sets its own policies, navigating them can be a headache. In some cases, canceling through Expedia means you’ll have to chase after the hotel or activity provider to recoup the costs.

Additionally, prepare for cancellation fees (both Expedia’s own fees as well as fees from the service provider). That’s if you’re able to cancel at all. Some bookings through Expedia are nonrefundable altogether.

Pro: It’s great for commitment-phobes

The new Expedia Rewards program, One Key Rewards, lets you earn OneKeyCash for every booking you make on the platform (plus on Vrbo and Hotels.com), which can then be used like cash toward future trips. Not only that, but Expedia users can earn status, which includes benefits like exclusive members-only discounts and extra benefits at VIP Access properties (such as free breakfast or late checkout).

For travelers who don’t like to commit to one airline or hotel company, don’t travel that frequently, or who book travel that otherwise doesn’t have its own loyalty program (like a tour or vacation rental), Expedia makes it possible to still get rewarded.

» Learn more: The guide to One Key Rewards

Con: Most hotel and airline loyalty programs are far more rewarding

While the One Key Rewards program is fine, most travel loyalty programs tied to specific hotels or airlines are almost always more rewarding. For individual point values, most other currencies of airline and hotel points are worth far more than OneKeyCash, which nets you 2% back on cruise, hotel, activity and rental car bookings but only .2% on flights. Once it's in your account, you can use it to pay for bookings just like you would cash — though you’ll need enough OneKeyCash in your account to pay for an entire flight, not just part of it.

Additionally, holding specific airline or hotel elite status is typically more lucrative than the value of elite status on One Key Rewards as most perks extend to Expedia VIP Access properties only. That said, some elite members can enjoy up to 20% discounts on hotels and free price drop protection on flights, which is a plus.

As for how to use Expedia points, OneKeyCash can be redeemed on “pay now” bookings for participating purchases priced in U.S. dollars. You can use it to pay for part of a hotel booking, but you’ll have to have enough to pay for the full cost of a flight (including taxes and fees). And while you can’t transfer rewards, you can use your OneKeyCash to book travel for others.

But depending what status you’re able to reach with individual brand loyalty programs, you can likely expect better perks. So if you’re fine committing to one brand, you’re almost always better off striving to earn its status versus with One Key Rewards. But if you only stay for a night here or there or prefer to book based on location or price, it’s a way to earn a few more rewards.

Pro: Expedia counts as a travel purchase

Many travel rewards credit cards give you a higher rewards rate on travel purchases, and booking sites like Expedia typically count as travel spending. For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card earns 2 points per dollar on travel spending, compared with 1 point per dollar on most purchases.

Con: Travel credit cards are usually better for earning and redeeming rewards

If you’re loyal to a specific hotel or airline brand — or are open to pledging allegiance — credit cards aligned with those brands typically pay more on purchases directly from the brand partner. For example:

Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card

on American Express' website

Chase United Airlines Mileage Plus Credit Card

on Chase's website

Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card

• 2 miles per $1 spent on Delta purchases.

Terms apply.

• 2 miles per $1 spent on United purchases.

• 12 points per $1 spent on eligible Hilton purchases.

• 6 points per $1 spent at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels.

• 1 mile per $1 spent.

• 3 points per $1 spent.

• 2 points per $1 spent.

Even general-purpose travel rewards cards that aren't tied to a specific airline or hotel chain will often reward you more handsomely for booking through their own portals than they would for going through a site like Expedia. Going back to the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card : As mentioned, it earns 2 points per dollar on most travel purchases — but 5 points per dollar on travel booked through the Chase Ultimate Rewards® portal . Among general-purpose travel cards:

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

• 5 miles per $1 on hotels and car rentals booked through Capital One Travel.

• 2 miles per $1 on other purchases.

• 5 points per $1 spent on travel booked through Chase.

• 10 points per $1 spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Chase.

• 5 points per $1 on air travel booked through Chase.

• 5 points per $1 spent on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel, on up to $500,000 spent per year.

• 5 points per $1 on prepaid hotels booked with American Express Travel.

• 2 miles per $1 spent.

• 1 point per $1 spent.

If you're considering booking with other online travel agencies like Priceline or Hotels.com, here are the best credit cards for online travel booking websites .

With the right deal, booking travel — including flights, hotels, cruises or car rentals — on Expedia could be worth it. It makes searching for travel relatively easy given the massive array of available listings, coupled with thoughtful search functionality to actually help you create your ideal itinerary.

But don’t automatically assume it’s a cheap way to book travel. Especially given the complicated cancellation policies, it might become among the most expensive, should an uninsured trip need to be canceled.

Expedia Group expands global hotel partnerships

O nline travel company Expedia Group has broadened its global reach with a series of new and expanded partnerships with hotels, booking platforms and tourism boards.

In the Asia Pacific region, Expedia has partnered with Ikyu, a Japanese online booking service specialising in luxury hotels and restaurants, and Top Town Travel, which provides professional travel services for inbound and outbound travellers in China.

In North America, Expedia has worked with United Airlines to upgrade its United Hotels platform, Stockotels, which is an accommodation curator for business travellers, and Paytrack, which can now offer its business travel customers access to the company's lodging supply with Expedia’s rapid API [application programming interface] solution.

In Europe, Radisson Hotels and Expedia Group have teamed up to offer benefits to fans of Liverpool Football Club. B2B [business-to-business] hotel booking website Book For Work is also now using Expedia’s Rapid API solution.

In the Middle East, Dubai's Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel has become part of Expedia Group's VIP Access programme. This allows guests to secure room upgrades and early check-in/late checkout. According to Expedia, hotels enrolled in the programme tend to attract travellers who stay longer and spend more compared to non-participating properties.

Expedia president of private label solutions Alfonso Paredes commented: "Our purpose-built technology is transforming the travel industry. This translates to unparalleled travel options, competitive pricing and unique experiences for travellers.”

Expedia’s travel trends for 2024 include TV and movie-inspired travel, affordable destinations, tour tourism and sober and low-alcohol travel.
