Effortless rides along Cape Town's most scenic routes.
The best way to experience the city of cape town.
There are plenty of sightseeing activities in Cape Town but none that comes close to exploring the Mother City on the back of an electrically powered bike that’s designed for comfort.
Cape Town is packed with culture, history, art, natural beauty and local peculiarities.
Our Half-day Cape Town City Tour allows you to see the city’s most iconic sights from a completely different perspective – it’s much more intimate than zipping by in a taxi, bus or car where you miss so many things.
The route covers a distance of +- 38 kilometres along scenic routes showcasing Cape Town’s must-see places, including the V&A Waterfront, Gardens, Oranjezicht, the Bo-Kaap, Cape Town Cableway, Table Mountain’s service road, Camp’s Bay and more. Giving up-close views of so many points of interest, this is the only Cape Town sightseeing tour of its kind; and thanks to the pedal assistance provided by the electrically powered motor, it’s accessible to adventurer seekers of all fitness levels. When it comes to Cape Town private city tours, we make it our business to offer an unsurpassed experience.

We rode in the Stellenbosch region and what an amazing day we had! Perfect as far as the length, level of difficulty, the views (we saw baboons, falcons and wild cats as well) and our guide, Roland, second to none. All in all, we had a perfect day and if I could give 10 stars, I would. We hope to come back someday

Cape Lion E-Rides
Explore the Western Cape like you never have before!
About Cape Lion E-Rides
Cape Lion E-Rides is a Cape Town based eco-adventure company offering electric bicycle (e-Bike and e-MTB) rentals and guided tours. With a passion for cycling and local travel, Cape Lion E-Rides gives you the opportunity to explore the Western Cape and all of its renowned landmarks, attractions, historical sites, and hidden gems in one of the most exciting ways – on an electric bicycle!
Adventuring through Cape Town on an e-Bike is an immersive, inclusive, and incredibly fun experience that should be on everyone’s bucket list!
Why e-Bike?
* Never has exploring the world, or, in this case, the beautiful and vibrant city of Cape Town, on two wheels been so easy. The beauty of an e-Bike is that you are able to experience cycling without limitations. Your pedalling power is boosted by a small, yet capable electric engine and rechargeable battery, both of which are integrated into the bicycle. Although you still need to do some pedalling, Cape Lion E-Rides’ revolutionary step-through pedal-assisted e-Bikes helps you go much further with far less effort.
* The power of an e-Bike ‘levels the cycling playing field’! One of the main concerns people have about going on a bicycle tour is the fear of not being able to keep up. e-Biking eliminates this entirely! It ensures that everyone’s pace is equally matched, giving all riders the opportunity to enjoy the journey together and revel in the joy and excitement of this shared experience.
* One of the best things about e-Biking is that it is for absolutely EVERYONE! Whether you’re a die-hard adventure seeker or someone who’s just looking to explore Cape Town in a new and exciting way, e-Biking encourages people from all walks of life, including those who thought their pedalling days were long over, to get out there, get moving, and explore to your heart’s desire.
* Going on an e-Bike tour as opposed to a regular bicycle or bus tour gives you the opportunity to tick something thrilling off your Cape Town bucket-list as well as immerse yourself in an authentic and immensely enjoyable experience. With the benefit of motor-assist, e-Biking eliminates the worry of whether you’re fit enough to ‘make it’ and allows you to simply sit back, pedal along and focus on the pure delight and excitement of the adventure.
e-Biking is not a struggle, it’s a pleasure, and Cape Lion E-Rides are beyond elated to share their love of cycling and exploring the wonders of the Western Cape with as many people as possible!
* e-Bikes are brilliant for the environment too! As rapid urbanisation and global warming continues to have devasting effects on our planet, eco-tourism has become increasingly important.
Be part of the e-revolution by renting one of Cape Lion’s e-Bikes or going on one of their exciting e-Bike guided tours!

WINELANDS TOURS
E-mtb adventures.
With such an incredible variety of tours on offer, it can be difficult to pick just one. We asked Cape Lion E-Rides which e-Bike tour is best suited to individuals or groups that are looking to explore Cape Town, but are not necessarily die-hard thrill seekers or adventurers at heart:
“All of our e-Bike tours are fully customisable, however if you’re looking to explore Cape Town and surrounds at a leisurely pace, our favorite experience at the moment is the e-Bike & Picnic Tour. This experience can be guided or unguided depending on your preference. The e-Bike & Picnic Tour takes visitors over the renowned Chapman’s Peak Drive (one of the most magnificent marine drives in the world) from Hout Bay to the beautiful coastal town of Noordhoek to enjoy breathtaking views and a delicious picnic on the lawns of Cape Point Vineyards. This tour is both relaxed and fun and is the perfect combination of sights and snacks!”
Alternatively, we asked which e-Bike tour is best suited to those looking to add more adventure and thrill to their experience:
“If you are looking for an exhilarating and thrilling e-Bike adventure, our ‘Around The Cape’ e-MTB tour is absolutely perfect for you! This e-MTB tour is an exciting roundtrip that takes you through Hout Bay, Noordhoek, Silvermine and Constantia, covering around 50 km + 1000 hm. It is the ultimate way to explore and discover the beauty of the Cape Peninsula.”
What can you expect from Cape Lion E-Rides in the future?
We asked Cape Lion E-Rides if there are any new e-MTB or e-Bike tours, initiatives or experiences locals and travelers, explorers and adventurers can look forward to in the near future. Or if there are any specific e-Bike tours or experiences they are currently focussing on. And there certainly is!
“Close to home in Hout Bay, we are focusing on promoting our e-Bike & Picnic Tour. We feel that this is one of the most incredible, relaxing, and enjoyable ways to see and experience Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak and Noordhoek. In these difficult and unprecedented times, cycling and outdoor dining both offer visitors a way to have an unforgettable experience, while still practicing social distancing.”
With regards to the future, there definitely is a lot to look forward to!

Cape Town Cycle Tour entries open, e-bikes welcome & short route clarification
Supplied by Cape Town Cycle Tour.
Excitement is mounting! Thousands upon thousands of South Africans are eagerly preparing to enter the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2020, Cape Town’s annual festival on two wheels and the bucket list item that everyone wants to tick off, at least once!
Next year, 8 March will be the day when Cape Town invites its residents and visitors to don their Lycra and/or crazy costumes and pedal through some of the most glorious scenery found anywhere in the world – or cheer on those who do.
“There are a few things that set the Cape Town Cycle Tour apart,” says David Bellairs, a Director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust. “The route is incredible – where else can you ride 109km of breath-taking scenery, laughing and enjoying Instagrammable moments and the camaraderie of 34 999 like-minded individuals? It’s a challenge, but one that is achievable even by those who only dust their bikes off once a year.
“Then there’s the welcome that the city provides. People go out of their way to line the route. They dress up, they shout, they clap and cheer on the riders as they pedal by. And don’t forget the 100s of volunteers who look forward to being part of the Cycle Tour every year. The sense of celebration and community on the day is hard to describe and must be experienced!
“Participants get to be part of this amazing ‘gees’ all the while knowing that the proceeds go to charity. This is truly an event that transforms the everyday into an experience of heroic proportions. No wonder the Cape Town Cycle Tour has held a special place in South Africans’ hearts for more than 40 years!”
Over the past 5 years alone, more than R45 million has been distributed to social upliftment and cycling development programmes in and around the Western Cape by beneficiaries, the Pedal Power Association and the Rotary Club of Claremont. Taking part in the Cape Town Cycle Tour is one of the easiest ways to support a worthy cause whilst experiencing a once-a-year opportunity to own the traffic-free road around the Cape Peninsula.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust is excited to announce that e-bikes will be welcomed for the first time this coming year, subject to specific conditions to entry.
However, hosting a short course in addition to the traditional 109km route is proving extremely complex. The team at Cape Town Cycle Tour, together with key stakeholders including the City of Cape Town, has invested considerable time and effort in planning for two world-class events within the City and surrounds. Safety, experience and quality of the event cannot be compromised, and disruption and inconvenience to the residents of the City of Cape Town must be minimised.
This process can’t be rushed and with the entry date upon us, the decision has been taken to postpone the short route option until 2021 to allow for further planning and judicious preparation.
“We know that there will be some disappointment around this decision – we’re disappointed too,” says Bellairs. “But as always, the safety of participants comes first. We hope to have good news next year regarding the short course for 2021. All stakesholders will continue working to make this possible.”
General Entries Entries open: Monday, 21 October @ 1pm General entry fee: R550
Charity Applications opened Wednesday, 2 October – Friday, 11 October 2019 Charity entry fee: R860

CAPE TOWN FOR CAPETONIANS
VineBikes: The ultimate e-bike wine tour experience
If you’re looking for an exciting way to explore the winelands around Cape Town, then why not try an electric bike wine-tasting tour?
VineBikes, a company run by adventure buffs, offers guided tours through safe and scenic routes in Banhoek, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, where you can taste the delicious wines each farm has to offer while enjoying an easy pedal through greenery in the fresh air.
The beauty of an electric bike is that it makes riding a no-sweat excursion. The e-bikes are fitted with a motor and battery, handle like a normal bicycle, and are family-friendly (there are kids’ seats and half-wheelers).
Plus, there are saddlebags so you can take a bottle or two home. Each tour lasts 3.5 hours, and you spend about 30 to 45 minutes at each farm along the route.
In Banhoek, you’ll start your journey from the beautiful Banhoek Lodge and wind through the valley, surrounded by the impressive Drakenstein Mountains.
You’ll cycle to two or three excellent estates, including one that is tucked away at the end of the valley. Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Zorgvliet Wine Estate and Oldenburg Vineyards are just a few of the wineries you can visit on this tour.
Also read: Wine not? Explore Cape Town’s rich vineyards on these top tasting tours
The Franschhoek trip starts at the La Couronne Wine Estate in Franschhoek, a culturally rich town that your guide will give you insight on while cycling through backroads.
There’ll be plenty of photo opportunities – the area is famously pretty, surrounded by imposing mountain ranges. Cycling through working farms makes this an interesting and informative experience, plus these farms are beautiful.
Holden Manz Wine Estate and Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate are two of the farms you can visit on this tour.
In Stellenbosch, you’ll follow a track along the Eerste River past some historic buildings then on into the Jonkershoek Valley.
There you’ll visit Stark-Conde Wines and Lanzerac Wine Farm, one of the oldest wine farms in the country, established in 1692. Riding through this area is peaceful and uplifting, especially when you get to taste the fruits it produces.
Whether you’re a wine lover or just enjoy the great outdoors, an electric bike wine tasting tour is a must-try activity in Cape Town.
