ASDA Money offers a range of affordable financial services, including travel insurance. In this guide, we look at what ASDA travel insurance includes and the pros and cons of cover.

ASDA Money offers three types of cover:

• Single trip. You’ll be covered for one trip overseas.
• Annual multi-trip . A year’s worth of cover for unlimited trips.
• Family travel . You can cover up to three children for free on this policy.

There are three levels of cover offered by ASDA Money:

• Value. You’ll be protected for up to £20,000,000 for medical expenses, £1,000 worth for personal belongings and £1,000 for holiday cancellations.
• Premium. You’ll be protected for up to £25,000,000 for medical expenses, £1,300 worth for personal belongings and £2,000 for holiday cancellations.
• Superior. You’ll be offered unlimited protection for medical expenses, £2,000 worth for personal belongings and £5,000 for holiday cancellations.

The maximum length of your trips on an annual multi-trip. Cover policy will depend on your choice of cover – for value it’s 35 days, for Premium it’s 45 days and for Superior it’s 90 days.

These are just the cover limits most likely to be important to you. There are many more differences in cover limits between the three levels.

Asda Travel Insurance is a popular travel provider, so it wasn’t difficult to track down reviews online. We’ll share the good, the bad, and the ugly. That way you can make an informed decision based on others’ opinions and not just ours.

Let’s start by looking at what the industry professionals say. Consumer Moneyfacts Awards are presented annually based on a company’s products and service. The governing body is completely independent and specialises in financial services. For 2019, Asda Travel Insurance won the Consumer Moneyfacts Awards for ‘Travel Insurance Provider of the Year’, so it must be doing something right.

Defaqto independently reviews travel policies in the UK based on quality and policy features. Here are the ratings it gives Asda Travel Insurance for 2019:

Five is the maximum number of stars awarded and means a policy has outstanding features and cover. As you can see, the Superior policy offered by Asda received five stars across the board, making it an excellent choice. The Premium policy also scored well, apart from the winter sports cover.

Fairer Finance scores products based on the specific features that are included as standard in the policies. Its ratings (out of five) for Asda Travel Insurance for 2019 are listed below:

Fairer Finance did not rate Asda as highly as Defaqto, but interestingly, the Premium and Superior policies scored the same in most categories. Again, winter sports cover was not rated highly. Overall, professionals seem to really go for Asda Travel Insurance . It’s a different story with the customer reviews though!

On TrustPilot there are 43 reviews and Asda gets an average of one star.

"I had to cancel a family trip due to a serious illness that required immediate surgery. I have failed to speak to anyone on the phone as kept on hold for more than an hour on every occasion. Bought superior cover but now discovered that they aren't refunding a lot and add tax. They told me to go back to the travel company to try and get it back. Asda Travel Insurance Policy Types

We found that Asda offers super flexible travel insurance, which means you only pay for what you need. Makes sense, right?! After all, you would never pay for 10 nights of accommodation if you only need five.

Asda Travel Insurance has two standard policies to build upon:

• Single Trip : there is no upper age limit on this policy. Plus you can roam free for up to 365 days, so grab the biggest backpack or suitcase you can find!
• Annual Multi-trip : this is available for anyone up to the age of 76. Asda has three levels of cover offering varying lengths of stays:
• Value - up to 35 days per trip. Asda will also throw in winter sports cover for up to 18 days.
• Premium - up to 45 days per trip. You will get up to 18 days winter sports cover included with Premium too.
• Superior - up to 90 days per trip. Enjoy up to 24 days free winter sports cover with this option!

*Pet care: For each full 24 hour period you are delayed, Asda will cover extra kennel or cattery fees if the start of your original return journey is delayed because of circumstances that you can’t control. Most other providers do not seem to offer this.

It’s important to know what’s out there before you buy. In order to compare Asda Travel Insurance prices, we have done a comparison for an annual policy including Europe for a 35-year-old woman with no pre-existing medical conditions (July 2019).

Asda’s Value policy is slightly cheaper than the average. It didn’t score very highly with the professionals, but then basic policies are there to offer the minimum. The Premium policy is much cheaper than other insurers, plus it is packed full of features. The Superior policy costs slightly more than the Premium but is still below the industry average.

Verdict? Depending on your needs we would suggest looking at the Premium policy, which offers great value for your money.

Can I Cancel my Asda Travel Insurance Policy?

Yes, you can. There are some conditions you should be aware of though:

• You can cancel your annual multi-trip policy within 14 days of the day of purchase. You will receive a full refund as long as you have not travelled and are not planning on making a claim. Following the 14 day period, you can cancel at any time but you will not receive a refund.
• You can cancel your single trip policy under the same conditions as stated above. However, if your end date is within 31 days of the date of purchase, you will not receive a refund.

Asda’s website suffers from the fact that it is an off-shoot of Asda’s other services which, granted, cannot really be helped, although the company has done its best to make each independent sector of its business as user-friendly as possible.
