10 Great Day Trips to Take From Liverpool, UK

Buttermere, Lake District National Park

Freelance Travel and Music Writer

With Liverpool being so close to a number of beaches and popular northern attractions, there’s no time like the present to use the waterside city as a base for your next outing. Here are 10 day trips, from forests to historical landmarks that we think you should plan to visit.

1. crosby beach.

Anthony Gormleys Another Place - Crosby Beach

Easily reachable from Liverpool, Crosby is a clean beach with facilities for all the family. Anthony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ sculpture is permanently placed on the beach, which boasts great views of ships across the water.

2. The National Trust’s Formby

With sand dunes, miles of beaches and plentiful pine woodlands, Formby is a must-visit when visiting Liverpool. Owned by the National Trust, this protected area of the North West is wonderful for long walks, sunbathing in the summer and nature trails.

5. Speke Hall

Speke Hall & Gardens

Speke Hall is a 16th century Tudor manor which is incredibly close to the centre of Liverpool. Restored in the 19th century, this picturesque example of Tudor-Victorian architecture is worth a visit alone. Take the stunning gardens and surrounding woodlands into account too and you’re on to a winner. Parts of Speke Hall date back to around 1530, making this one of the oldest buildings to discover in the area.

Marine Point, New Brighton

Just a short hop across the Mersey river is New Brighton, on the Wirral. Here you’ll find Marine Point ; a shopping and entertainment complex for all the family. With a children’s play area, plentiful shops, a cinema and stunning views across the Mersey, you’re set for the day with a trip to Marine Point.

6. Peak District

Derwent Dam - Peak District

Another wonderful national park close to Liverpool is the Peak District. Perfect for hiking, cycling and taking in the stunning surroundings around you, this huge national park has it all. Though you’ll need to leave early as the Peak District is about a 75 minute drive from the city – a little further out than our other suggestions – we’re certain you’ll be amazed by its beauty.

7. Port Sunlight Village

Port Sunlight Village

The historical 19th century village of Port Sunlight is a wonderful day out in itself. Its 900 Grade II listed buildings, vast amount of parks, gardens and trails to explore plus an award-winning museum are just a small selection of the attractions amongst the village which was built to house the soap factory workers in the late 1800s.

North Wales Coast

The North Wales Coast is home to a wonderful collection of beaches and versatile attractions for all of the family. Take Colwyn Bay for example; a seaside town with stunning coastal views atop its vantage point. Most North West locals visiting North Wales will have been to the town of Llandudno at some point in their lives, and with its accessibility, attractions and underground copper mine it’s a firm favourite.

The 5 best Liverpool day trips

With easy transportation links to the north and south, Liverpool offers several opportunities for day trips to the seaside, nearby cities, historic towns and hilly hikes. After spending a few days exploring one of England ’s most fascinating cities, head out for one of these five incredible day trips.

off to the beach

Visit Southport for a classic day out at the seaside

Travel time: 47 minutes

The rich aromas of vinegar and hot sugar waft through the Southport air, while delighted screams from roller coasters echo out to sea. Situated on England’s western coast, Southport embodies what many consider a classic English seaside experience.

Central to Southport’s coastal experience is the pier – Britain's second longest. It’s stocked with crazy golf, a beautiful old Victorian canopy and shopping arcade, plus vintage arcade machines (sneak a giggle at the “Saucy Slots” – vintage automatic peep shows).

Be sure to check out the British Lawnmower Museum to indulge in the country’s love of a well-maintained garden (trust us, it’s fascinating). Nearby Pleasureland offers traditional funfair activities, such as coasters and thrill rides and games like ring toss and basketball shootouts.

For the best of the bounty the sea has to offer, the Swan Restaurant is a must for fish and chips. After, drop by Silcock's Ice Cream Parlour for ice cream or a freshly fried doughnut.

How to get to Southport from Liverpool

Jump on the direct Merseyrail train from Liverpool Central Station to Southport. It takes around 47 minutes, and you get to kick back, relax, and check out the scenery as you travel. It costs about £7.55 ($9.30) for an adult Anytime Return ticket that you can buy at the station or using the Trainline app.

By car it’s approximately an hour to Southport from central Liverpool. The best car park is on the Lower Parade just by the Bliss Hotel as it tends to be quieter than the more centrally located ones. You'll also enjoy a walk by the lake as you head to the main attractions.

View along the main street in the centre of Chester, Cheshire, UK. Shops can be seen on either side of the road and people can be seen walking and sitting on benches. The rows of upper level shops are pictured on left.

Head to Chester to walk your way around Roman history

Travel time: 40 minutes

Centuries of history are intertwined with modern shops and restaurants in Chester. Founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago, it’s one of the oldest walled cities in Britain, and Roman remains, Tudor-style half-timber buildings and Art Deco architecture are all within a short walk of each other.

Chester's food and drink outlets range from independent cafes like Jaunty Goat Coffee to the Michelin-starred hypha . For the perfect stroll, head to the Roman walls, which encircle the city on an easy 2-mile (3.2km) loop. Spend some time peering at Eastgate Clock (pun intended) – this is considered England’s most photographed clock after Big Ben. For a snack, head to Dinky Donuts, a “blink and you’ll miss it” snack shop hidden by the stairs leading up to the city walls beneath the clock... Or grab an ice cream from Snugbury’s on the River to eat along the River Dee.

How to get to Chester from Liverpool

To get to Chester from Liverpool, you can take the direct Merseyrail train from Liverpool Central or Lime Street. It takes about 40 minutes and costs around £8.25 ($10.16) for an Anytime Day Return ticket.

If going by car, it takes around 45 minutes, but you'll need £2 ($2.46) toll money at the ready for a trip through the Mersey Tunnel (payable both ways). You also need to budget some money for parking.

Go to Manchester for art, music and a city with football at its heart

Travel time: 1 hour

Today Manchester is known as much for its art, music and football as it is for its significance in the Industrial Revolution. With the vast array of mostly free museums , you can dive into the history of the people, place and even football without leaving the city center. Time it right and you can do almost everything in a single day.

The city's Northern Quarter is known for its food and drink scene, from the piled-high plates of vegan junk food at V-Rev diner to the rooftop terrace at 20 Stories , and vintage vibes and cocktails at Sammy’s Cocktail Bar .

Shopaholics will find plenty to browse in Manchester’s indy stores. Oklahoma and Manchester Craft and Design Centre offer quirky and artist-made products. Add a nice pop of color or a new curio to your home collection.

The '90s British game show The Crystal Maze lives on at its real-life incarnation in Manchester : teams compete to solve puzzles and overcome physical and mental challenges. Afterward, relive the experience over a drink in the backstreet arcade bar NQ64 .

With the right shoes (and an umbrella), walking is a wonderful way to explore Manchester. Invisible Manchester hosts walking tours guided by people affected by homelessness. Alternatively, local guide Hayley Flynn's Skyliner tours provide an equally unique look at the city and its people.

How to get to Manchester from Liverpool

To get to Manchester take the train from Liverpool Lime Street Station direct to Manchester Piccadilly. The price ranges from £8.80 for an advance return ticket to £21.30 for an Anytime Day Return, so it is worth planning for this day out.

The car journey takes around an hour. There is plenty of parking around the city, but it can be expensive.

Visit Port Sunlight for architecture and manufacturing history

Travel time: 18 minutes

In the late 19th century, Victorian entrepreneur Lord Lever needed a spot to house the staff for his soap factory. He purchased a plot of land in Cheshire and established the model village of Port Sunlight (the name comes from their best-selling brand of detergent). Today Port Sunlight is a worthwhile day trip from Liverpool, both a quiet and relaxing village that tells the story of the local industry, while also providing plenty of tea rooms and pubs to while away an afternoon or an evening.

The village showcases an interesting range of architectural styles, many influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement and its focus on local design and materials. The Port Sunlight museum tells of the growth of the soap factory, which became a global leader and remains one of the largest manufacturers today.

How to get to Port Sunlight from Liverpool

To get to Port Sunlight, you can take the Merseyrail trail direct from Liverpool stations. Prices are around £4.35 ($5.36) for an Anytime Day Return ticket for one adult and take 18 minutes on a direct train.

If you're taking the car, it will be approximately 25 minutes. You'll need to take £4 ($4.93) for the toll in the Liverpool Tunnel, £2 ($2.46) each way. There is free parking in Port Sunlight, but it can get busy.

Take in picturesque views at Frodsham and the Cheshire Sandstone Trail

Travel time: 1 hour, 15 minutes

Frodsham is a market town dating back to the 13th century. Many of today’s buildings still stand on the original plots that were drawn up in the 13th and 14th centuries. The thatched buildings, small doorways and winding side streets add to the picturesque charm of this Cheshire town.

The characterful old Fisherman’s Cottages perched atop a red sandstone outcrop far above the main road are some of the most intriguing. Fishing was once a vital trade for the town’s economy, and these cottages stood at the water’s edge. As water levels have fallen over the years, the cottages sit far from the rivers.

The town is also the starting point for the Cheshire Sandstone Trail, a 34-mile trail along the Cheshire Way. While it is far too much to do on a day trip, you can make your way up Frodsham Hill to the War Memorial for spectacular views over Cheshire and Liverpool.

End your day trip at one of the town’s many warm and welcoming old pubs such as the Ring O Bells , ideally situated for refreshments on your way up or down Frodsham Hill.

How to get to Frodsham from Liverpool

To get to Frodsham, take the train from Liverpool Lime Street Station to Frodsham. It takes 1 hour 15 minutes and the Off-Peak Day Return ticket costs £8.40 ($10.28).

You can drive from Liverpool to Frodsham, which will take around 50 minutes (or 40 on the toll road). There are many car parks in Frodsham where you pay and display the time you spend there.

9 Best Day Trips from Liverpool

Eclectic, energetic, musical – three words to encapsulate Liverpool’s transformation from dingy industrial hub to the modern city it is today. Accented with a rich maritime history, this west coast city birthed The Beatles and currently houses the Philharmonic Orchestra. Football fans are no doubt familiar with its name too. Diverse charms aside, there’s another reason why Liverpool is a great place to visit and stay: it’s the ideal base for day trips.

Multiple train stations cater to day-trippers, the best day trips from Liverpool accessible via the extensive train lines from Liverpool Lime Street or Liverpool Central. From industrialised cities to nature escapes, I scoured the top getaways within an hour or two from Liverpool.

If you have days to spare, definitely cover some of these day trips! There are plenty of things to do that cater to all interests.

Day Trips from Liverpool

This guest post is written by Victoria Philpott, from DayOutinEngland.com . The essential resource for guides and itineraries to England’s best days out. Searchable by themes, counties and cities – they’re definitely not just for kids!

Obsah / Table of Contents

1. Manchester

Day Trips from Liverpool - Lowry theater in Manchester

Manchester is one of those cities that has a reputation even if you’ve never been, mainly thanks to its famous football teams but equally for its known musical achievements. Trains from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Victoria only take 35 minutes – making Manchester simple and easy to explore on a day trip from Liverpool.

The Museum of Science and Industry is one of the best things to do in Manchester as it covers much of the city’s history. John Ryland’s Library is another learning space; it is also a stunning architectural piece that dates back to 1900.

My favourite place to visit in Manchester however is the quirky Northern Quarter, home to well-curated pieces in the Manchester Art Gallery as well as prolific street art. I can spend hours browsing the indoor market of Affleck’s Palace, with its indie boutiques cozied up behind its red-bricked façade.

When you’ve exhausted the shops, be sure to delve into Manchester’s developing food scene. Arndale Food Market and Mackie Mayor serve up delicious eats.

Manchester also makes for a brilliant night out. Check out the bars down at Deansgate, or if you’re into your techno, check the listings for the Warehouse Project.

2. Delamere Forest

Paved walking paths carve their way around 972 hectares of woodland in the Delamere Forest, scented with the musk of evergreen trees. Solid trunks angle high to spread their branches, layers of leafy growth offering shade for hikers. It’s one of my favourite day trips from Liverpool for forest adventures.

Apart from the generous trails featured within Delamere Forest, the outdoor activity company Go Ape gives visitors a choice between serene strolls and tree-swinging fun. The best activity by far is the Tree Top adventure; you have to climb up platforms and travel over rope courses between elevated stations. Net climbing and zip wire stations are spread out over the estate.

To explore the area quickly, take the Segway Tour!

You’ll up your Segway skills since some spaces are rocky and sloped. Regardless of how you tread the grounds though, bring your comfortable shoes.

York Minster from the city wall - Great Day Trip from Liverpool

The journey to York from Liverpool is a longer 2-hour journey but history buffs will fall in love with this charming trove of heritage sights. The Shambles should be first on the itinerary, a collective of 14 th and 15 th -century houses that somehow remains standing in their crooked forms. Butchers’ shops have transformed into characterful bookstores, knick-knack stores, decorative ware and other indie attractions. It’s said to have inspired Harry Potter ’s Diagon Alley!

You could sign up for a history tour to make the most of the historical sites in a short amount of time. York has witnessed politics and warfare since 71 AD, including the rise of Constantine. Most of York’s top attractions will be covered in the tour, such as the splendid York Minster (one of Northern Europe’s largest cathedrals), The King’s Manor, York City Walls, Fairfax House, York Castle Prison, Berden Hall and more.

The list of things to see in York is endless so go ahead and plot your own tour if you prefer.

One of my favourite spots in York – mainly thanks to the childhood memories – is the Jorvik Viking Centre. Pay for entry to learn more about the effect the vikings had on our world.

Tudor houses alongside the Bridge street in the central Chester - Day Trips from Liverpool

Roman roots are strong in Chester – in fact, it was first conceived as a Roman fortress in 79AD. Aptly named ‘fort’ or ‘city of the Legion’, Chester’s burnished sandstone walls remain the sole full-circuit defensive wall in Britain. Expect to be suffused with a sense of awe and fragility when viewing landmarks from this millennia-old structure.

Photographers will devour Chester’s ornate Eastgate Clock, a surprisingly solid piece formed by gold-tinted whirls and coloured pieces. Chester Cathedral is another complex of aesthetic spaces; 14 th -century quire stalls a stately contrast to its Falconry & Nature Gardens. From there, take a languid cruise down River Dee whilst enjoying afternoon tea onboard. The historic Rows feature unique boutiques in medieval frames for the romantics’ post-meal stroll.

There are some great days out in Cheshire , the county where Chester belongs.

The most iconic one is Chester Zoo. Home to over 21,000 animals and one of the best zoos in England ! Between dropping by the exotic habitats, you can grab a bite to eat and refuel at the animal-themed restaurants.

For more inspiration, check these fun things to do in Chester .

5. Port Sunlight Village

Imagining wide boulevards, picturesque cottages and landscaped parks? Well, Port Sunlight Village is the Liverpool day trip for you.

What was William Hesketh Lever’s project to build a village for his soap factory workers is simultaneously an architectural wonder. Just a short train ride away from Liverpool, it’s a day trip favourite for many locals.

Every single house in Port Sunlight Village has its own unique design, making for some great photos. Also referred to as Arts and Crafts cottages, these buildings vary in colour and structure. To learn more about this purposeful, idyllic village, you can tours the Port Sunlight Museum before visiting the neoclassical Lady Lever Art Gallery. The masterpieces showcased are mostly from the 19 th century, collected by Lever himself.

Tea rooms and cosy pubs are scattered around this charming parkland for both locals and tourists to rest.

6. Lake District

Everyone needs a break from city noise every now and then; a day trip to Lake District is a gift in serenity with vibrant landscapes. Green dominates this natural reserve in forested patches, soft grasslands and manicured pastures. Anyone delving into the mountainous ranges by train or car will have a hard time tearing their eyes away. Lake District is one of the best day trips from Liverpool and also one of the best road trips in the UK .

Make a beeline for Lake Windermere on your weekend getaway; it’s the largest of the lakes. Walking boots are a must to fully take in the terrain, but pack water-bound shoes for a cooling ride on water. Picnics are popular among visitors too as there are plenty of fresh spaces to rest after a demanding hike.

Cosy market towns like Kendal and Ambleside are fantastic escapes too. You can spend afternoons browsing art galleries that display local talents. Traditional inns are in abundance if you’d like to stay overnight in country comfort. Check this guide to the Lake District for more inspiration.

If you are planning your trip, check these best places to stay in Lake District .

7. Southport

Summer travellers shouldn’t miss out on Southport’s aquatic charms. Bring your sunglasses and flip flops for a few hours of beachside relaxation. Meanwhile, canopied boulevards lined with Victorian buildings capture the eye, scalloped with scenic gardens for a balance of architectural marvel and natural charm. If you come into the city around noon, catch a bit at Lord Street before swanning down to the pier.

The pier area encompasses Southport’s top attractions: my vision of seaside vacation come to life!

Stroll down to the wooden pier with a takeaway bag of fish and chips in hand. There’s an arcade nearby if you’re up for a challenge, or maybe you’d fancy a ride on the carousel? The Southport Pleasureland amusement park is great for thrill-seekers. Make the most of the rides! Southport is another cool destination among the day trips from Liverpool.

8. Peak District

Tudor houses alongside the Bridge street in the central Chester - Day Trips from Liverpool

Another National Park to rival the Lake District is the Peak District – featuring dramatic landscapes any photographer would love to immortalise. Pack your hiking shoes to better explore its diverse valleys and moorland plateaus.

If I were to list Peak District’s top natural attractions, Dovedale’s endless steps carved into steep limestone takes first spot. Dark Peak and Kinder Scout embodies the wilder edge of nature; expect ragged gritstone ridges and haunting moors.

There are plenty of treats for gentler explorers too. Lyme Park’s tranquil estate combines garden and red deer populace for an alternative ambiance. Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House are unexpected finds, mansions and manors that belonged centuries past but are no less beautiful now.

Are you traveling with kids? Check this guide to the Peak District with kids .

9. Bradford

9 Best Day Trips from Liverpool

Gorgeous Bradford is often overlooked and it’s hard to understand why. While its grim past still lingers in monikers like ‘UK’s most-improved city’, cultural riches run rampant, whether it is the well-respected Bradford Literature Festival or revitalised North Parade district. Saltaire, one of England’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites , preserves its manufacturing past.

The Bradford Industrial Museum was first on my to-visit list, exhibits housed in a 19 th -century mill. Fascinating right?

In contrast, the National Science and Media Museum is housed in sleek casing to discuss photography, film and television. Bolling Hall was another lesson in medieval eras, the manor house decorated with aged furnishings.

Haworth village’s tribute to the Brontë sisters is definitely worth visiting. Their family home is turned into Brontë Parsonage Museum to display the manuscripts, letters and possessions of these 19 th -century novelists.

Day trips from Liverpool

So, as you can see, there are loads of interesting day trips from Liverpool to enjoy. I’d recommend basing yourself in the center of the city for a few days, to enjoy all that Liverpool has to offer, and then moving to the scenic outskirts so you can make the most of the day trip possibilities. Have fun on your day trips from Liverpool!

Writers Gogol, Chekhov, Fadeev and Ostrovsky, painter Isaac Levitan, film actor Shukshin, ballet artist Ulanova, famous politician Khrushchev, Mikoyan, Gromyko, the wife of Brezhnov, the world's first astronaut Gagarin, military strategists, artists and scientists are buried here, and almost every tombstone is a piece of sculpture. Visiting Celebrity Mausoleums These great men who once played a huge role in promoting the development of Russian history tell the world their different life stories through their unique tombstones. Khrushchev's tombstone is composed of three black and white marbles intersecting each other, with a stone head in the middle; the image of the heroine Zoya's tombstone is very touching: her hands are tied behind her back, her clothes are broken, her bare chest is erect, and her double Legs slightly bent, head held high back. Wang Ming's tomb is also here, a bust statue wearing a Chinese tunic suit, looking straight ahead. The tombstone of the famous ballet dancer Ulanova is a piece of pure white marble. Her graceful dance will always be left on the inscription like a curtain, so that the world cannot forget it. The founder of the circus, Yuri Nikulin, sits in a pine forest and looks at his faithful friend lying in front of him, the wise dog, who is said to have died on the same day as his dog, this is the soul The result of blending is more sincere and moving than human emotions. These various shapes express the identity and characteristics of the deceased. Feel the Russian cemetery culture In the hearts of Russians, the New Virgin Cemetery is not a place to bid farewell to life, but a sacred place to reinterpret life and purify the soul. The New Virgen Cemetery is full of strong cultural charm. The art of the tomb owner's soul and the tombstone are skillfully combined to form a unique Russian cemetery culture. The New Virgin Cemetery displays the entire history of Russia, each tombstone seems to be a page in history, and the sculptures in the cemetery have their own characteristics, which is the epitome of the development of the entire Russian sculpture art. During Peter's reign, all silversmiths, blacksmiths and craftsmen were sent to St. Petersburg, and the armory gradually became a museum of royal treasures. The collections here are dazzling, such as the diamond-studded crowns, scepters and thrones of the tsars of the Russian Empire, as well as gold and silver utensils donated by governments or made in their own countries. Speaking of interesting collections, it's the Royal Easter Eggs. Until the early 1920s, the Armory Museum kept 24 Royal Easter eggs, but for various reasons, only 10 remain today. 15 Fantastic and Easy Day Trips From Moscow

Is the hustle and bustle of Moscow starting to wear you down? No worries. There are multiple great day trips from Moscow that will let you see a different side of Russia that you won’t find in the metropolitan area. Each day trip I’ve listed below can easily be done by train from Moscow, and there are trains every day of the week.

The area surrounding Moscow is rich in cultural attractions and natural beauty. By traveling only a short distance, one feels far away from the crowds, and lines of the sprawling Russian capital. Since Russia is undoubtedly an expansive country it may take from half an hour to two hours to reach some of the landmarks on this list (by train or car) from the Moscow city center.

You can escape to the picturesque Russian countryside, visit war memorials, battlefields, admire onion-domed churches, and get insight into the local way of life. Easy day trips from Moscow include the incomparable white-stone Trinity Cathedral in Sergiyev Posad, the spectacular Cathedral of the Assumption in Dmitrov, and the Russian military aircraft in Monino. For those who love rural tranquility, Suzdal and Vladimir are a must-see. History buffs will appreciate the Patriotic War of 1812 reenactment that took place in Borodino on the first weekend of September.

Without further ado, here are 15 best day trips from Moscow that are well worth your attention.

The Best Day Trips from Moscow

There’s a reason Moscow is one of Europe’s most enigmatic destinations. It’s got culture, class, food, history, and more, but even better, is that it is the country’s main transport hub with so many attractions within a day trip from Moscow. While you can definitely spend days or even weeks in Moscow, it can, of course, be done in just one week. What can you do in Moscow in seven days ? Well, you can do a lot if you know how to plan a trip to a place you know so little about.

If you’re ready to get out of the city a bit and soak up the culture, fresh air, and enchanting architecture, I’ve rounded up my favorite day trips outside of Moscow. I often get asked: What are the best cities to visit in Russia? And these are places that I’ve been and loved.

My Favorite Easy Day Trips from Moscow:

Dmitrov Kolomna Zvenigorod Sergiyev Posad Yaroslavl Arkhangelskoye Estate Vladimir Suzdal Korolev Borodino Patriot Park in Kubinka Melikhovo Gorki Leninskie Kaluga Monino

1. Day Trip to Dmitrov from Moscow

Dmitrov may not be as popular as other cities in Russia, but the fact that the city was founded only 7 years earlier than Moscow makes for a great day trip. This small city some 90 kilometers from Moscow is particularly beautiful in the summer. As you walk the streets you can see sparkling fountains, charming centuries-old buildings, yachts and boats transiting through the canal and, of course, the Museum-Reserve Dmitrov Kremlin.

The Kremlin (castle) is the city’s main draw. The 10m high and about 1km long earthen rampart remained behind the wooden wall and gives an idea of how the castle looked like 400 years ago. The oldest surviving building on the Kremlin grounds is the 16th-century Assumption Cathedral with a unique five-tier iconostasis.

places to visit near moscow by train

Not far from the Kremlin there is a compact 15th-century Borisoglebsky convent. Its main building – the 16th-century Cathedral of Sts. Boris and Gleb is open to the visitors only for services of worship. In the 1930s in the convent housed a labor camp, which contained the builders of the Canal named after Moscow.

Getting There: Dmitrov sits an easy hour and sixteen minutes by train from Savyelovskiy Rail Terminal. This cheap day trip from Moscow is a great chance to soak up the historic charm to be found in Moscow Oblast.

2. Day Trip to Kolomna from Moscow

Situated to the south-east of Moscow, Kolomna is a beautiful port city on the Oka River. This is one of the oldest Russian cities in the region. So you can discover the old history in museums and monasteries. Interestingly, the city was a site for important weapon factories under the Soviet Union. Although it was opened up in 1994 Kolomna is not as popular as other day-trip destinations in the region.

Nevertheless, it is a great place to visit with friends and family where you can explore the 15th-century Kremlin made of red brick, try incredibly sweet traditional pastila (marshmallow), and visit some of the cute little churches and 19th-century mansions.

Getting There: Take the express train (commuter line train) from the Kazansky rail terminal to Golutvin station. The trip lasts one hour and forty minutes.

3. Day Trip to Zvenigorod from Moscow

This one is usually a given due to its proximity to and ease of transport from Moscow. It’s one of the easiest day trips from Moscow by train. You can easily hop on the train from the city and land right in the town of Zvenigorod where you can visit the 14th-century Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and sample the sparkly and refreshing kvass, a Russian specialty beverage that’s enjoyed in the summer months.

Zvenigorod is an adorable little town just under an hour away from the Moscow city and is an amazing place to visit as it will give a relaxing break from the hectic life of Moscow. Check this day trip if you don’t feel like planning.

If you have a sweet tooth, spend some time in the quirky Museum of Russian Desserts, where you can indulge in uniquely delicious treats and explore the intersection of food and culture.

Then you may want to pay the Zvenigorod Museum of History, Architecture, and Art a visit. The museum’s exposition is located on the territory of the Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery, or rather, in the 17th-century Tsaritsyny chambers, built for the wife of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. Stroll through the museum halls to view the permanent exhibitions, which offer insights into various aspects of Russian history. The intricate museum’s building is adorned with a decorative porch, complex patterned elements, and looks very impressive in general.

4. Day Trip to Sergiyev Posad from Moscow

If you’re looking for cheap day trips from Moscow, Sergiyev Posad is a good choice at just a few dollar train ride away. Known as a major center of pilgrimage and home to one of the largest Russian Orthodox Monastery which has been here for hundreds of years, Sergiyev Posad is a fun day trip from Moscow and can be combined with Abramtsevo Museum Estate. As the only town in Moscow Region which is included in the Golden Ring of Russian cities, Sergiyev Posad is an incredible destination for a day trip from Moscow that packs UNESCO-protected Trinity Sergius Lavra, great museums, and gorgeous architecture into one day.

Make sure you see the six-pillared Assumption Cathedral that was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in mid-16th-century and go inside to marvel at the impressive iconostasis that features Simon Ushakov’s masterpiece, the icon of Last Supper. Enjoy a delicious lamb steak with wheat kasha, Ukha fish soup, or hand-made dumplings as you learn a lot about religious and cultural history.

Getting There: Known for its small-town charm and welcoming feel, you can get to Sergiyev Posad by train, by bus, or by car. Trains depart from Yaroslavsky Rail Terminal every thirty minutes, and the trip lasts about an hour and a half. Alternatively, you can hop on a bus at the ‘VDNKh’ metro station. A bus trip to Sergiyev Posad takes two hours on average but can be reached in 90 minutes depending on traffic. If you go by car expect to spend about an hour and a half attempting to traverse the congested Yaroslavskoye highway.

5. Day Trip to Yaroslavl from Moscow

Going from Moscow to Yaroslavl may seem like a really long day trip, but honestly, if you take the comfortable train, it only takes about four hours to reach the city, so making a Yaroslavl day trip is totally doable. Although I do recommend much more than one day in Yaroslavl, especially if it’s your first time.

Cultural tourists visiting Yaroslavl should start their exploration by strolling the historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A spacious 100-hectare area enclosed by Sobinova and Republican streets is home to most popular attractions – the 17th-century Church of Elijah the Prophet that survived almost exactly in its original form, and in contrast to it, the white stone Assumption Cathedral, restored in the 2000s.

golden ring russia

If you walk a bit further passing the Holy Trinity sculpture and city’s foundation stone, you will find yourself at Strelka, a park on the cape, which offers panoramic views of the spot at the confluence of Volga and Kotorosl rivers. On the way back, there is a pleasant walk along the picturesque Volga embankment to the Governor’s Garden with shadowy alleys and an open-air Sculpture museum.

Getting There: Yaroslavl is about 280 km (173 miles) northeast of Moscow, so the best way to get there is to take a morning train from Yaroslavskiy Rail Terminal. A tour is also a great way to see the Yaroslavl without having to worry about driving or searching for trains. You can book a tour here.

6. Day Trip to Arkhangelskoye Estate from Moscow

Situated on the outskirts of Moscow and dates back to the late 18th-century, Arkhangelskoye Estate was the domain of the nobility for over a century until the Russian Revolution swept people who owned the estate out of the country. The estate was turned into a museum, which it remains today.

cities close to moscow worth visiting

The Arkhangelskoye Estate Museum holds the largest rare-book collection. The exhibition also includes old manuscripts, historical documents, photos from the past, a vast collection of sculpture, paintings, engravings, and exceptional examples of decorative art. These art objects once belonged to Prince Nikolai Yusupov, the former owner of the estate.

train trips from moscow

Arkhangelskoye Estate is often referred to as the Russian version of Versailles because of the intricately manicured garden and beautiful 18th-century park. Famous Russian writers and poets such as Pushkin, Herzen, Mayakovsky loved to spend their free time here making long excursions in the surrounding area. Arkhangelskoye is a perfect place to appreciate the terraces decorated by delightful statues, exquisite vases, and busts.

Visitors can take tours, which introduce them to vibrant examples of Russian art and culture.

Getting There: To reach the estate it’s best to take a bus or a privately-owned minibus that departs from Tushinskaya metro station.

7. Day Trip to Vladimir from Moscow

Situated only two hours east of Moscow, Vladimir is absolutely one of the best places to visit near Moscow for a day trip. This splendid city dates back to the 12th century and has a very rich history. If magnificent Orthodox cathedrals and traditional white-stone architecture entice you, then this place is perfect for a day trip with your significant other.

First things first, you need to see the Golden Gate, which indicates the entrance into the old town. This 12th-century medieval masterpiece of military architecture is associated not only with Vladimir but with the Golden Ring tourist route itself. At the top of the gate, where once was the Church of the Deposition of the Robe, there is the Museum of Weapons. Great looking arrowheads and spear points date back to the Grand Principality of Vladimir, while the exhibition in an impressively majestic setting features a number of Batu-Khan related artifacts.

There’s a variety of attractions to put on your must-see list: the Old Believers Trinity Church right behind it, the Cathedral of St Demetrius, and Dormition (Uspensky) Cathedral. If you plan on shopping for souvenirs like birch-bark masterpieces of Kunov’s masters, drawings, carving, embossing, figures of people and animals, stop by the Lacquer Miniature, the Museum of Crystal, and the Gingerbread Museum. Many of the local attractions were added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites.

Getting There: The best way to visit this area is to catch an early train from Moscow and book a full-day tour of Vladimir in advance. This one includes the town of Suzdal as well.

8. Day Trip to Suzdal from Moscow

This gem of a little medieval town perched on a hill just a 30-minute ride from Vladimir is one of those places I’ve visited and could move there permanently and be happy! It’s a charming little piece of history that also has a Kremlin and visiting it feels like stepping back in time. if you’re a culture enthusiast you’ll be glad to know there are numerous churches, five monasteries, including Spaso-Yevfimiev Monastery in Suzdal. Check them out if you want to get a real taste of the country!

cheap day trips from moscow

pend some time shopping at the Torgovaya ploshchad (Market Square), where you can buy baskets made of birch bark, ceramic handmade plates, honey or souvenirs and, of course, grab some afternoon tea!

Getting There: Trains leave regularly from Moscow’s Kurskiy Rail Terminal to Vladimir where you can hop on a bus to Suzdal. You can also take a bus from Moscow. In this case, it might take longer and you’ll probably encounter infamous traffic jams. If you go by express train the trip takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. There are slower trains of course, but I’d recommend going with the fast one and save a lot of time!

9. Day Trip to Korolev from Moscow

Located some 30 kilometers northeast of Moscow, Korolev has become arguably the most important space research center with skilled workers from across the Soviet Union who came here to expand the space program.

It became a leading institute dedicated to aerospace research in the country. Today, that tendency can still be clearly seen on the streets and in the buildings. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the city retained its status as the headquarters of Russia’s space surveillance network and now it hosts the Russian Mission Control Center, an analogue of the American Mission Control Center at NASA’s Space Center in Houston.

If you want to learn more about Mission Control Center and the former Russian Mir space station, book a tour with a knowledgeable guide who can clearly tell the history of this place.

If you’re not into space exploration there is also a Memorial Apartment Museum of Marina Tsvetaeva in Bolshevo. With a picturesque park next to the museum, it’s a great place for walking in the fresh air. The highlight of the park is memorial stones with quotes from Tsvetaeva’s poems.

Getting There: I’d recommend going by train. Catch one at Yaroslavskiy Rail Terminal that departs every 30 minutes to reach Bolshevo station.

10. Day Trip to Borodino from Moscow

The historic Battle of Borodino on September 7, 1812, took place just outside the small village of Borodino, about 140 km west of Moscow, and about 15 km from the nearest town of Mozhaysk. Although the French won the Battle of Borodino and went to capture Moscow, it was one of the bloodiest battles of the pre-twentieth-century that is also predetermined Napoleon’s defeat.

While it was a battlefield back then, not much remains today. It’s mostly a green and grassy field now with a few monuments of military honor, architectural objects dated back to 19th and 20th century, and fortification facilities scattered throughout the area. The largest of these is the 27-meter high obelisk located right at the heart of the former battlefield.

Every year the military and patriotic festival and theatrical performance take place in Borodino. Early September is considered to be the best for visiting. But if you just want to feel the spirit of the battle, it’s better to go at any other time of the year.

Getting there: Hop on a train from the Belorussky rail terminal, disembark in Mozhaysk, and then take a bus to the museum. The whole travel time is about 2 hours.

11. Day Trip to Patriot Park in Kubinka from Moscow

Once a Red Army tank training ground, now it’s a military Disneyland with history, structure, guns, and armored vehicles! The tank museum originally housed one of the world’s largest and rarest collections of tanks. In 2016 they combined the training grounds with the newly-created Patriot Park. Since then, some of the notable and rare items have been moved to the Patriot Park site, so you may want to combine both sites into one tour (only about 20 minutes apart).

best places to travel from moscow

The exhibition grounds include some very rare specimens that are must-see for any military enthusiasts out there. The staff is friendly, helpful and kind, while the museum has a small shop. As this site is part of an operating military base, they may ask you to show your passport, or provide them with a photocopy of the front pages. There are vending machines for snacks and drinks, and there are bathroom facilities. There’s plenty to see, so I recommend setting aside an entire day!

Getting there: Situated halfway between Borodino and Moscow, the best way to reach Patriot Park in Kubinka is by car. Alternatively, if you don’t want to rent one, consider car-sharing apps like Gett or UBER. The price of ride-sharing services is cheap enough to make them a viable proposition for choosing them.

12. Day Trip to Melikhovo from Moscow

Located some 80 km from Moscow, Melikhovo is one of the most important museums dedicated to Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. This renowned Russian writer and playwright acquired Melikhovo in 1892. He lived there with his parents and close relatives for 7 years before moving to the Crimea in 1899. Melikhovo is where he wrote his plays “The Man in the Case” and “The Seagull”.

The estate faded into oblivion right after the Revolution but in 1939 Anton Chekhov’s sister Maria and his nephew established a museum based on Chekhov’s place of living. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1941.

Today museum’s exhibition reveals the legacy of a celebrated writer and shows his path not only as a writer but as a doctor and public figure as well. The collection also features some of the best-known paintings by famous artists like Isaac Levitan and Vasily Polenov, who were Chekhov’s friends. When it comes to fun and educational day trips from Moscow, Melikhovo is a nice place for learning more about Chekov’s life and work.

Getting There: You can reach Melikhovo by train from Kurskiy rail Terminal. Disembark in the town of Chekhov and hop on a minibus that will get to the estate. Alternatively, hop on a bus that departs from the Yuzhnaya metro station.

13. Day Trip to Gorki Leninskie from Moscow

Once the realm of Russian nobles, Gorki Leninskie was turned into Lenin’s museum some 25 years after his death. The estate sits some 30-minute bus ride from the Domodedovskaya metro station and houses Soviet-era memorabilia and Lenin’s memorial flat recently transferred from the Kremlin, as well as his vintage Rolls-Royce.

Most people only associate this place with the name of the first communist leader. In fact, the name of the estate was first mentioned in documents dating back to the 16th-century. Throughout its history, the estate was owned by a number of prominent figures. It’s in fact one of the best museums that holds the country’s finest collection 19th-century furnishings and a unique collection of domestic items owned by nobles. Plus, ancient Vyatichi native tribe or East Slavs who inhabited a part of the Oka basin’s burial mounds and a few notable sculptures are hidden behind the avenues of lime trees in the park.

Getting There: You could, of course, hop on a bus from Domodedovskaya metro station. But it would be much easier just to use UBER or Gett. The estate isn’t that far from the Moscow Circle Road but going there by bus may involve some navigating.

14. Day Trip to Kaluga from Moscow

If you’re looking for an educational day trip from Moscow, look no farther than Kaluga! This beautiful city could really entertain you for more than just a day, but to get a taste of science, be sure to visit the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics. Or in other words, the Space Museum.

Visitors to the museum will learn more about the history of space exploration. In fact, this is one of the largest Space Museums in Russia, which opened its doors in Kaluga in 1967. Here you can see a prototype of the iconic MIR space station and a duplicate of the Voskhod rocket. The very same rocket that took the first man to space. There’s also a planetarium, which from the outside resembles a spaceship.

Kaluga is a totally walkable city. Make sure to spend some time strolling Teatralnaya street with the authentic 19th-century pavement that now marks the Kilometer Zero. Then walk across the 18th-century Kamenniy Most (the Stone Bridge) that somewhat resembles a Roman aqueduct. If you’re an architecture buff marvel at the Church of St. Cosmas and Damian.

It is assumed that the church was erected by one of the followers of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1794. The church resembles the Smolny Convent in St. Petersburg. With five church towers directed upward and six tiers of oblong windows give the exterior a sense of lightness and airiness.

Getting There: Trains from Kiyevsky Rail Terminal to Kaluga leave every 90 minutes. The trip takes about 2 hours and 35 minutes.

15. Day Trip to Monino from Moscow

Are you looking for great family & kid-friendly day trips from Moscow? If so, consider visiting the Central Museum of the Air Forces at Monino. This unique military open-air museum is home to over 180 Russian aircraft and 100 aircraft engines and the perfect place to go when your crowd is looking for a break from hectic city life. Check this tour if you don’t feel like planning.

things to do outside of moscow

This site was formerly an operational airbase from 1932 till 1956 and many of the Russian aviation Design bureaus have made a contribution to the operation and maintenance of the museum. Along with aircraft from the Second World War, there are the TU-95 Bear four-engine turboprop-powered strategic bomber and the TU-144 Charger a Soviet supersonic passenger airliner (which resembled the Concorde). The museum also has exhibits related to military aviation history such as the uniform of captured U2 pilot Gary Powers.

Getting There: This museum is located at Monino Town, about 30 km from Moscow. It is open on all days from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except Mondays and Tuesdays. To get there take a train departing from Yaroslavskiy Rail Terminal and disembark at Monino station. Alternatively, hop on a bus from Schelkovskaya or Partizanskaya metro station.

15 Best Day Trips from Moscow

Moscow, the sprawling Russian capital, is a city that’s both full of history and contemporary culture.

This is the centre of the Russian world, a city that armies have invaded, where nations have clashed and where revolutions have played out through the centuries.

It’s a city on the fringe of Europe, but a place that is very much at the heart of European history and politics, and for visitors, it can be a complex and enthralling destination to visit.

As much as there is to see and to do in the city itself, there is just as much to experience on day trips from Moscow too.

While Russia is undoubtedly an expansive country, and many of the better-known cities such as St Petersburg or Volgograd are hundreds and hundreds of miles away, there are many more unknown and unusual destinations to visit within a few hours’ drive of the capital.

Immerse yourself in the Russian countryside, visit war memorials, battlefields and the lavish estates of the former Russian nobility. There are rural villages, grand Orthodox Monasteries and the chance to see Russian life outside of the city first-hand.

Here are the best day trips from Moscow.

Korolev, Russia

Located just an hour north of the Moscow city centre, Korolev is an area that is almost a suburb of the expansive capital, but has retained its own unique identity. During the Soviet era, this was one of the most important industrial areas in the country, because this was the base for Soviet Space Exploration.

During World War II, the factories here produced anti-tank guns that helped keep the Soviet Union in the fight. After Germany was defeated, the factories and research centres began to focus on space.

The city became a ‘Science City’ as skilled workers from across the Union came here to settle and to launch the space programme. It became one of the more affluent areas in the country, and today, that distinction can still be seen on the streets and in the buildings.

When the Soviet Union collapsed, Korolev remained the headquarters of Russian space travel and still hosts Russian Mission Control.

2. Borodino

Borodino, Russia

A two-hour drive to the west of Moscow is the battlefield of Borodino. This is a place that is revered in Russian history, and which perhaps should be much more well-known in wider European history too, because this is where the infamous French General Napolean Bonaparte fought the Russians during his invasion in 1812.

Although the French won the Battle of Borodino and went on to capture Moscow, this was the beginning of the end for Napolean, as he went on to be ravaged by the Russian Winter and was forced to retreat soon after.

Just outside the small village of Borodino is the green and grassy field where the battle was fought. On top of a substantial hill is a lasting monument to the important event.

Kolomna, Russia

Located to the south-east of Moscow is the city of Kolomna, which in comparison to the Russian capital is very much a small-town escape.

This is one of the oldest Russian cities in the region and there is a long and intriguing history to be discovered in the museums and monasteries.

Interestingly, the city was off-limits for much its tenure under the Soviet Union, because it was the site of important weapons factories. It was only in 1994 that the city was opened up and even now it is still very much unknown to tourists.

Kolomna makes for a great day trip, and you can explore the restored medieval walls, and the city’s very own Kremlin, a huge fortress which dates back to the 16th century.

4. Zvenigorod

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, Zvenigorod

Zvenigorod is as little as an hour’s drive away from Moscow city centre, and the small town makes for a pleasant break from the capital.

Zvenigorod is an old and historic place, with a history dating back almost a thousand years.

There are some beautiful monasteries to visit as well as the unusual Museum of Russian Desserts, where you can sample and explore this aspect of the local culinary culture.

Zvenigorod was also a town where the world-renowned Anton Checkov once lived, and you can visit a museum here that’s dedicated to his life.

5. Sergiyev Posad

Sergiyev Posad

North of the capital is the city of Sergiyev Posad, which is one of the few well-known tourist destinations in the surrounding region.

You will find this as a suggested stop on most travel itineraries to Moscow, and many tour companies include this as part of their excursions around the city because this city is home to the famous Trinity Lavra of St Sergius.

This is a huge Russian Orthodox Monastery which has been here for hundreds of years, and continues to be run by monks who look after the revered tomb of St Sergius, who was laid to rest here.

It’s an important pilgrimage place for Orthodox Christians and an important stop for tourists.

6. Kubinka Tank Museum

Kubinka Tank Museum

Outside Moscow, you can find an unusual museum which will give you a truly ‘Russian’ experience.

The Kubinka Tank Museum was once the location of a Red Army tank testing ground. Now, it’s been turned into a huge museum that showcases every conceivable type of armoured vehicle.

7. Arkhangelskoye Estate

Arkhangelskoye Estate

The Arkhangelskoye Estate was built on the outskirts of Moscow and dates back to the late 18th century when it was constructed by a Rusian aristocratic family.

For over a century, it was the domain of the nobility, until of course, the Russian Revolution and the advent of Communism swept the family that owned the estate out of the country.

The estate was opened to the public by the Communists and turned into a museum, which it remains today.

Restoration work after the fall of the Soviet Union saved the Arkhangelskoye Estate from falling into disrepair and kept the grounds and the grand palace as a lavish example of pre-Revolution Russia.

8. Yaroslavl

Yaroslavl, Russia

Yaroslavl is found a few hours to the north of Moscow and makes for a long day trip from the city. It’s worth the journey to experience one of the region’s most popular tourist destinations.

Yaroslavl is found on the banks of the River Volga and has been a historically important city throughout Russian history. The city has even been the capital of the country at various points.

You can explore the many museums and monasteries to learn more about this intriguing destination.

9. Rostov Veliky

Rostov Veliky

Just south of Yaroslavl is the small but culturally rich town of Rostov Veliky.

This is another important site in Russian history, as the town can date its origins back to early Slavic settlement around Moscow.

Lake Nero is a beautiful and expansive lake near the town, fringed on one side by an ancient fortress, giving Rostov Veliky a wonderful atmosphere to experience.

10. Vladimir

Vladimir, Russia

Two hours east of Moscow is another historic Russian city that is very much on the regional tourist trail.

It makes for a great day trip from the capital because Vladimir dates back to the 12th century and is full of Russian history and culture.

This was one of the first Russian capitals and it still contains many beautiful medieval buildings that are hundreds of years old.

Suzdal, Russia

The small town of Suzdal is just a few kilometres north of the city of Vladimir.

The town is part of a fantastic UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses the historic sites from both Suzdal and Vladimir.

The town was founded in medieval times and also acted for a time as an early capital for Russian kingdoms in the region.

Klin, Russia

Klin is a fairly unassuming town to the north-west of Moscow, but it’s worth visiting to see one particular sight, the house of Tchaikovsky.

The famous 19th-century composer spent his final days here and wrote his very last piece of work in the house in Klin. It is now a museum dedicated to his life and work.

It’s a grand estate and an interesting insight into pre-Soviet, Russian culture.

13. Melikova

Melikova

A short trip past the Moscow suburbs will bring you to another famous estate, the house of renowned Russian writer and playwright Anton Checkov.

By the town of Checkov, which was renamed in his honour, the museum of Melikova will take you on a journey through his life and indeed, what the lives of many of his contemporary fellow Russians would have been like too.

14. Gorki Leninskie

Gorki Leninskie

On the southern edge of Moscow is Gorki Leniniskie.

This grand estate was once the realm of Russian nobles, but after the Russian Revolution it was personally taken over by Vladimir Lenin who turned it into his own home.

He spent much of his last years here, and after his death, the estate became a shrine to his life and legacy.

Today it still remains an interesting museum, and is still in many ways a shrine to communism.

15. Losiny Ostrov National Park

Losiny Ostrov National Park

Losiny Ostrov National Park is a huge area of protected land that is found right on the edge of Moscow and is even surrounded on several sides by suburbs of the city.

It’s unusual to find such a large national park so close to a capital and it’s easy to spend the day exploring this veritable wilderness of beautiful scenery and plentiful wildlife.

TERRIBLE DAY TRIP

we were at our collection point for the day trip to the lake district from st. george`s hall in liverpool for 8.40a.m. in the morning. this day trip was still a test run for this company to see if they came up trumps with the customer service that should be received from any travel company whatever they are. sadly when we arrived at the service station near lancaster, a lady passenger was late arriving back on board from the toilet stop. the driver, then decided to start telling us about the itinerary while we were still parked in the car park of the service station. the driver, whilst speaking to us who was called paul then told us we would end up in ambleside, which was completely wrong in the first place, as we were ending up in bowness instead. the driver paul said very quickly when you come to find the coach in bowness, it will be on the right hand side just by the cafe on the front. the driver did not mention anything about meeting the coach in the coach car park either. paul, then suddenly asked the passengers on the coach if everyone was familar with bowness? half the passengers said not and the other half said yes. that should have been a red flag to the driver paul, so when we arrived at the haverthwaite railway car park,, paul should have asked every passenger getting off the coach that they were completely sure were to meet the coach in bowness, before everyone boarded the train leaving for lakeside. from the point my husband and i had some kind of an afternoon privaltely in bowness. then it came to wait for the coach that was due to leave for 4.45 p.m. , we were standing along with 6 other passengers all in the same place near the pier on the front were timewells coaches have picked up before. it came to the point were my husband even went and checked the coach park just to make sure if he could see the coach at all, he was not able to as we then found the coach was parked further back in the coach preventing you from seeing the coach at all. we continued waiting, and then through the bushed appeared the coach driver paul and just rudely said follow me. as the 8 of us then attempted to board the coach, we were met with hands clapping, and to top it off rudeness from a husband and wfe seating in seats 5 and 6. this husband, then decided that he had the right to clench his fists and shout at all 8 of us boarding the coach and proceeded to say "what do you not understand about the time of being back at the coach, and what do you not understand about car parks"! on hearing this my husband and i started to get into our coach seats, as we were doing this the wife of this husband, then started to argue with one of the other 6 passengers who was with us and was boarding late, and started to say this "it would be nice if someone said sorry"this old lady, then was forced to argue with this wife in the aisle of the coach, whilst we were still in the coach park of bowness. at no time did the coach driver called paul get out of his seat to tell the two passengers in seat 5 and 6 you need to stop and , you are out of order. we travelled back to liverpool, with me keeping one eye on this couple in seats 5 and 6, just in case they tried to say anything else to us. this couple got of at maghull, and continued their journey home to either southport, maghull and those areas by a feeder coach of timewells. this couple were not late, as they still had to wait for this little coach the size of a wine cork to take them home. this husband seating in seat 6 was rude and offensive, he was not the driver and did not own timewells and so his remarks and attitude were disgusting and offensive. to the degree that at bowness we nearly called the police, and if we had the coach would have been delayed completely from leaving the car park at bowness. on arriving at st. geore`s hall back again that evening, on leaving the coach i told the driver paul, that i would be complaing on monday morning, about the lack of information from himself the driver. his reply which was downright rude, was i did tell you all over 6 times. i immediately replied with "it doesn not matter how many times you tell a customer, the point is you failed to make sure all passengers knew were to pick up the coach in the first place. the man in the office of timewells at 10.06 a.m. was rude, and actually made an excuse that he wanted to get off the phone to answer other calls. he then slammed the phone down, but this after saying that the owner and manager were not available.afer phoning back after 20 minutes continuous attempts, the same man answered the phone again, on doing this i then had to tell him how rude and disgusting his behaviour was on the phone. we will never use timewells for day trips or holidays of any kind in the future as they totally have no customer service, they do not know how to handle complaints, and when they do get complaints they do not know how to respond in the correct manner, they do not use any couriers on board their coachs for their day trips, and their drivers complain about the owner of timewells which we have heard completely whilst on board the coaches. so my advice is avoid timewells travel ltd, for day trips or holidays at all costs.
