Sainsburys travel insurance was taken…

Sainsburys travel insurance was taken out for our holiday to Amsterdam last September, we had to cancel this as both went down with Covid. These are underwritten and claims handlers are Great Lakes and CSA We were refused a claim twice, they said the first time we weren’t covered for covid. The second time they told us we didn’t provide a certificate to say we couldn’t travel. Even though we’d passed on details of our gp to the insurance co. as they said they didn’t give out certificates for covid anymore. They said they could write to them. We’d provided photos of our positive covid tests in front of the time and date on our computer. Anyway, wanted to give people a heads up that we took our plight to the Financial Ombudsman and we’ve just found out we’ve won our case. So the insurance company has to pay us plus interest. So don’t give up!

It should be zero stars

It should be zero stars, but it won't offer that choice! I only wish i had read some of the reviews here before purchasing Sainsburys annual travel insurance. They say you can only judge an insurance company when you have to make a claim, well that’s where the zero stars come in! To get any regular reliable correspondence from these is at best impossible. I got asked to send three sets of information, once sent then I got asked for another batch of information [different from the first email]. These two emails took about a month to get through to me, since then “nothing”! I have sent numerous emails and have yet to have a reply, I have now given up and will never use or recommend Sainsburys travel insurance to anyone. This is the shortened version as I can’t be bothered to write everything down as it would take up too much time and space.

DON'T BUY SAINSBURY'S TRAVEL…

DON'T BUY SAINSBURY'S TRAVEL INSURANCE. In June I booked my holiday. My flight was cancelled without any notice. I contacted insurance. They are still asking millions of questions. 6 moths gone nothing happened. Wasting my time. Now I contacting the Financial Ombudsman.

How can they even think of sending an email like this?

I still can't believe that I received this renewal quote (Car Insurance) from Sainsbury Bank but there it was in an email nonchalantly and in a way that they seemed proud of themselves telling me that my renewal cost will be a total price £836.32 and reminded me that last year's total price was £267.70. FYI, I've not made any motor claims for 20+ years. That's an extortionate increase of 312%!!! Disgusting and downright criminal!!

Complete shambles of a renewal…

Complete shambles of a renewal process... Didn't send out renewal reminder or price. I phoned and automated message said long wait and go to live chat.45 mins later they answered and sent the renewal but WITHOUT pre-existing conditions included. 45 min wait again for live chat only to be told you need to speak on the phone and RE_ENTER the pre existing....but I already gave you that last year. AND WHAT USE IS A RENEWAL QUOTE WITHOUT PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS Wasted 45 mins x 2 of my life and their staff time....and I still have not got a renewal quote ! LAUGHABLY BAD.

Fantastic service

Exchange Bureau Milton Keynes. Good exchange rates and really friendly staff. Unlike many places, greeted with a smile and they are more than happy to give smaller denominations unlike John Lewis, Waitrose etc. Will definitely use again.

Avoid this company at all costs!

Non-existent Insurance & Abysmal Customer Service! I waited nearly two months for a response to my claim. After weeks of relentless follow-ups, I received nothing but false promises. It turns out the travel insurance offered by this company is nothing more than a waste of money and time. My flight was abruptly cancelled by the airline just a few hours before departure at 2am on a bank holiday. This left us stranded in a foreign country. Shockingly, the so-called 'cancelled flight' and 'delayed flight' policies were nothing but smoke and mirrors. Avoid this company at all costs! The combination of non-existent insurance coverage and terrible customer service is utterly unacceptable.

Most appalling service and claims process…

Most appalling service and claims handling i have ever experienced. Ryanair are faster at paying out, and that's saying something. Sainsbury's have outsourced all claim handling to a 3rd party .. CSA Ltd claim handling .. they have a 3 week turn around on literally any email exchange, so a simple 1 item clarification resets the clock .. im now at 6 weeks .. and they also tried to weasel out of the delay payment saying it wasn't delayed for 12 hours ! .. Boarding cards submitted , clock started yet again on 3 week SLA ... Sainsbury's brand image ruined for me, and will never buy their insurance for travel, car or shop in their supermarket again - Truly appalling for what should be a premium brand! Sainsbury's CEO you need to get this outsource off your books and reign in the appalling service!

Non existing customer services!

Non existing customer services! Only wanted to amend travel details and after an hours wait they still spelt my daughters 3 letter name incorrectly after spelling it out 3 times. Won't use again.

Stay well clear

Stay well clear. My wife's phone got stolen while abroad. We couldn't register an account on the portal and had to argue with a CS person to get them to help me. Once logged in, the portal had incorrect contact information for filing a gadget claim. I then discovered gadget insurance is outsourced to Taurus who are an absolute circus when we finally managed to contact them. A phone is pretty much an essential part of life these days. If it gets lost/stolen abroad and you are insured by Sainsbury's/Taurus, you will be waiting 2+ weeks for a replacement - Minimum! Urge you to look elsewhere.

Sainsburys insurance are a disgrace.

Sainsburys insurance are a disgrace. We paid for holiday cover, which included Covid and I have this in the key facts document. So when we had to cancel because my wife couldn't get out of bed I was reasurre that I had the insurance. NO! Because we cancelled the day before and the trip hadn't "started" they won't pay out, despite me calling to check before we cancelled and they said we were fine. It's just underhanded. They passed the claim to an administrator who initially asked for my bank details to make payment then inexplicably changed their minds and are now refusing to pay. Why would a massive brand like Sainsburys act like this, it does nothing for their reputation, a reputation that initially made me take out the policy in the first place. Awful, awful people. Avoid at all costs.

Absolute BS! Don't insure with Sainsbury's

Absolute BS! Put in a claim, and I had to do submit a form via email to another insurance company which site doesn't work. I tried calling Sainsbury's bank and keep getting referred to the online portal which doesn't help at all. I now emailed them hoping to get a response. If I don't hear back about my claim in the next week I'm going to the ombudsman and small claims court

Had no issues claiming back

Whilst abroad I had painful toothache, after getting a quick dentist appointment I was told I needed a crown fitted. I made sure to call Sainsbury's Travel Insurance to make sure a) I was covered and b) what they needed to support a claim. After having the surgery, the dentist wrote the note detailing the issue and what I had done and I supplied this to Sainsbury's. It took around 1 month to get the money back but they paid with zero hassle. Really can't complain.

AVOID AT ALL COST

My daughter was stuck in Frankfurt after her flight was cancelled to Bogota with a 23hr delay - Called Sainsburys about 15 times - a nightmare to get hold of and no-one could tell us what was covered if she had to book different flight and what her options are. none of the departments could 'offer advice' on what her rights were. And apparently they only cover flights in and out of the country not the whole trip if you are getting connecting flights. How stupid is that what is the point of insurance? over 40mins to get through to the claims - gave up in the end and just changed the flights hoping for the best.

Bought travel money euros and dollars…

Bought travel money euros and dollars missing over £600 in euros. Failure to refund. Asking my bank to refund. Avoid this company took over 2 months for them to decide that won't refund me. Said royal mail 4 weeks to investigate took 9 weeks.

Very poor - AVOID Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance

Very poor - their Settlement Claims Agency is a scam. Bad decision on Sainsbury's Bank to ruin a trusted brand with an ineffective claims company. Email response time 6 weeks. Keep asking for the same information every time. Do me a favour, Sainsbury's Bank, and get CSA to pay up for a trip cut short because an airline cancelled flights on me at the airport. I've been waiting for 7 months. Disgusting.

Date of experience : 20 November 2022

CSAL are terrible

Sainsbury’s Bank pass claims handling to CSAL (Claims Settlement Agencies Limited) who take an age to handle claims. It is clear they do not have the capacity to process the volume of claims they have. These guys really drag down the Sainsbury’s brand.

Date of experience : 20 November 2023

Please STAY well clear of taking…

Please STAY well clear of taking Sainsbury’s travel insurance started. Claim on January 5th this year and still no acknowledge of my case number after contacting them Now 5 times . I do understand it’s not Sainsbury’s as they use a 3rd party gb uk claims it’s called which is a huge insurance company this is outrages . I had to pay out thousands for my hospital cover whilst on holiday and now out of pocket still 3 months down the line . I would not give any star rating

Date of experience : 19 March 2023

Easy refund procedure…

Took out Sainsbury’s Travel insurance and then realised I did not need it so soon. They allow you to cancel within 14 days for full refund unless insurance has been used. Process could not have been easier entered details requested and received an E mail confirmation that the refund had been accepted that same day.

Date of experience : 06 September 2023

ZERO stars. Do not go anywhere near Sainsbury's Travel Insurance. We took out a fully comprehensive annual policy with them - which was more expensive than the other policies available and when we claimed for accommodation (not flights!) that we were unable to use due to positive Covid tests they told us they were unable to accept our claim as the photo we had wasn't time-stamped. Even though we had ample evidence of the situation including dated emails etc. It has also taken us over a year to just get to this point. We will now be making a formal complaint in the hopes that we at least get back the cost of the insurance policy and will NEVER be using Sainsbury's Travel insurance again.

Stay well clear of Sainsburys travel…

Stay well clear of Sainsburys travel insurance! I submitted a straight forward claim on 17th January and still waiting for an outcome 2 months later, depsite contacting 9 times. Depsite using Sainburys for credit cards, insurance etc in the past they have lost my business going forward.

Date of experience : March 17, 2023

Need I say more

So I had a job with these guys and everything seemed so perfect at first, however due to personal problems in my family I was unable to stay with them. They are now demanding money from their own employees and not giving clear reasons as to why these payments are required. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Worse service ever from Sainsburys insurance

If this is Sainsburys home insurance - DON'T DO IT Unable to get anyone to answer the telephone - get loads of selling messages repeated and repeated and then ends call with no answer. No email address to contact them No chat App - cannot register an account.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. They are scammers. I took out holiday insurance for a ski trip. Sadly my mum got ill and was diagnosed with cancer so I had to cancel. I made my claim on 11th January and are still wrangling with them. They lose information, don't answer emails for weeks on end. Every time you get a response someone else is looking at it and then they ask for the information again. I am having to send my claim to financial ombudsman. They are not Sainsburys but Claim Settlement Agencies. Staff are inept and just not able to understand anything you send them. Will do anything not to pay. Sainsburys you should do something about this. As they are ruining your good reputation.

Zero stars for this inept, incompetent, unprofessional company with non-existent customer service…

I would give zero stars if possible like many previous reviews for this inept, incompetent, unprofessional company with non-existent customer service. Have been waiting for even an acknowledgment of our medical claim which was submitted 6 weeks ago. Impossible to reach anyone by phone and no response to emails. It is stressful enough to have a family holiday ruined by illness. This is a company supposedly endorsed by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance to handle claims. Sainsbury's should take ownership and provide a service to paying customers!

Nightmare experience -please don't buy from Sainsburys

Please an honest request to all reading the reviews. Please don't buy from Sainsburys. I have been battling for 3 months to get a decision on a genuine medical incident while traveling. We jad a medical incident and had to mis our flight. I have submitted my claims in September. However I was not aware that Sainsburys only sells insurance and collect our premium but when a claim is s made they pass it to me a company called CSAL. Every time we email them they have response time of 31 days I am told. As I can see people are waiting for upto 12 months. So if you really want an 8nsurance that covers you and pays ontime please don't buy from Sainsburys.

Appalling customer service

Received an email saying they will auto-renew this year but when I phoned customer service they said I I have not had a policy with them since 2019. I asked for a standard email confirm that there would be no autorenewal this year but received one confirming that there would be no autorenewal in 2020 - amazing! Tried to explain this does not confirm they will not take the amount stated on the email in 2021. Finally, the phone was put down on me bang on 5.30 in the middle of the discussion - obviously don't pay overtime! When I log on to their website it clearly shows my policy which is due to expire in Dec 2021.

Ridiculous cancellation process- Auto-renewal

The customer service agent was polite and raised my complaint, hence one star but this is a ridiculous content insurer. I received an automatic renewal quote by email, logged in to cancel but was unable to cancel. SO, I cancelled my direct debit! nearly a month on I receive a letter with an outstanding balance for the new police. The claim is that I should have rung to cancel the autorenewal and two letters were sent - he could not decide if it was email or snail mail. I even checked junk- of course it was not there as my shopping etc are Sainsbury an my provided recognises Sainsbury. I do not share a house and in the same way that I received today's letter- I would have received the previous. Absolutely disgusting service! I await the complaint process and this is an issue of my credit file...Ridiculous!

Worst insurance company. Avoid at all costs.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Don't waste your money. I took out the policy for a ski trip, where someone knocked my tooth our and exposed a nerve. Upon calling them they advised me to seek medical assistance on a Friday night. Obviously all the dentists were closed or fully booked for the next 2 days. My departure date was on Sunday, and give the pain from the exposed nerve there was no choice but to fly home, and get a root canal done. This root canal took about 6 appointments. The insurance won't cover this cost which is frankly ridiculous. This is the entire purpose why I took out insurance, and this is a MEDICAL expense. The staff are incapable of anything, and because of this that is the reason the claim was not paid. Joke of an insurance company. Avoid if you don't want to throw away money.

One of the worst ever companies to take…

One of the worst ever companies to take Home Emergency insurance from! I took out Emergency Insurance Cover from them and when my boiler stopped working they just found a lame excuse not to cover it. Just a full waste of money, please do not ever take out any policy from them!

Customer service line is just a joke

Customer service line is just a joke! Tried to speak to someone on the telephone today. Waited 1 hour and 20mins on the line. When it was my turn they put me to an answer phone!! They asked me to leave my details and they will get back to me! 7 hours later no phone call!! I have 4 annual polices with them!! Will never use again!!

Renewed with Sainsbury's and glad I did! 👍

I took a chance with a Sainsbury's Travel Insurance annual policy last year after being with The Co-op for several policies. I found Sainsbury's to be the cheapest option with the best variety of benefits inc. 20% off for Nectar Members and double Nectar points for the duration of the policy. Thankfully I have not yet needed to claim but with online and telephone access both available, it should be pretty easy if the need arises. I recently received my renewal quote which for the same level of cover or the stage below was a lot cheaper than last year still with 20% off and double Nectar points for the coming year. Needless to say I was impressed with the quote and I called yesterday to accept and paid immediately. I didn't wait anymore than 30 seconds on hold to speak with an advisor. The advisor, Sara, was lovely, polite, friendly and knew their stuff. I had completed the call within 24 minutes well within my break time too! 😊 I hope the great service continues after a very pleasing first year and I am glad to be covered on my travels across the UK and Europe. I happily recommend Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance.

30+ minutes call waiting

I was using this company for car insurance after a year it was approaching renewal date . Like most car insurance policies it was automatic renewal but I received no quote from Sainsbury's . I decided to phone them to see what they intended to charge me . I spent 30 minutes waiting to get through to this company . 30 minutes gives you time to think , and I thought " would I really want to be sitting on the end of a phone for 30 Minutes in a emergency ?? No I wouldn't !!!!! I cancelled my auto renewal online . I didn't bother to find out what the renewal price was !!! Really bad customer service, I really wouldn't want to deal with these people after an accident.

If I could give minus

If I could give minus, I would have given -2. I got Sainsburys through Money supermarket, and I had declared that my holidays 63 days, and home unoccupied. Appalling customer service, directs to ring 033, automated message for scores of minutes, and eventually told that their underwriters do not accept over 60 days unoccupied status!

Date of experience : May 29, 2022

ABSOLUTELY USELESS

They don't talk to you unless you're signing up with them. They are online only! Phone numbers with long recorded messages, then hang up. Absolutely, totally, useless! DO NOT USE!!!

Terrible. Terrible. Avoid

Terrible. Avoid. Claimed in September 2022 and still waiting. Over an hours wait holding on and then someone tells you an operator will call you back - well that was 6 weeks ago and no one has. No replies to emails. They are not even trying and doing everything possible not to pay out. Will never ever use again

Awful Service

Following the death of my mum; I sold my house and tried to cancel house insurance over phone, told to do it on line. Have done this but I had paid full year up front and had 6 months left. No refund. I have tried to contact them but I am getting nowhere. Very poor service and good way to make money from people without providing a service. Will never use sainsbury insurance again.

The insurance company who can't handle their own claims!

As others, I would have given zero if I could. Sainsbury themselves don't appear to have the guts to face their customers when they claim - they outsource the whole lot, perhaps hoping that their policy of avoiding paying out only affects the reputation of their claims handlers not their own lovely high street name. Its October 2022 - I put in my claim in December 2021. Still not settled. I have called numerous times, sometimes someone even answered, then was promised a call back - this never happened. Their online claims forms prevent you from giving proper details of what you are claiming for and when they do bother addressing you they've got it all twisted what you're claiming for. I have had repeated boiler plate emails (but we're talking at 2 month intervals) apologising for the delay due to the pandemic up until October 2022. They work from home still! I live in London - the City has been booming for 6 months with people working in the office - what pandemic? This company should not be allowed to be in business as they don't achieve their basic function for existing - handling claims. This is unless their raison d'être is to avoid paying out to customers. I won't rant but I can think of too many bad adjectives to describe them.

Sainsbury’s Bank

The UK’s first supermarket bank, Sainsbury’s offers a range of award-winning financial products including travel money, credit cards, savings, loans, travel, car, life, pet, and home insurance.

After more than 150 years on the high street as one of the UK’s leading supermarkets, it’s little wonder that customers are turning to the brand for their home insurance needs.

Who underwrites Sainsbury’s home insurance?

Sainsbury’s home insurance is underwritten by UK Insurance Limited.

Types of home insurance available with Sainsbury’s bank

Sainsbury’s offers three types of home insurance:

  • Buildings insurance
  • Contents insurance
  • Combined buildings and contents insurance

These insurance types are available across two tiers: Home and Home Plus.

The table below highlights what each type of Sainsbury’s policies cover.

What does Sainsbury’s buildings insurance offer as standard?

Sainsbury’s buildings cover is designed to give you peace of mind should the worst happen to your home. With two policy types to choose from, which one will suit you will depend on your property individual needs.

The table below shows a quick. side-by-side comparison of what each policy has to offer.

Sainsbury’s Home Plus

Also, both levels of cover are similar, the Home Plus option does include the following optional extras as standard.

Home emergency cover

Covers a range of home emergencies such as plumbing and drainage issues, pest infestations, and boiler and heating systems breakdowns.  Sainsbury’s will liaise with you and arrange for a tradesman to visit, paying up to £1,000 (including VAT) for an emergency repair.

Family legal protection cover

This cover provides access to a list of specialist lawyers who will help you and your family cover the cost of going to court for the following:- if you have a dispute over faulty goods, are in an accident where you’re not at fault, injured as the result of medical negligence, have an employment dispute, or if someone trespasses on or damages your home.

You will also be given access to a 24-hour legal advice helpline.

Enhanced accidental damage cover for buildings insurance

Provides extra cover on top of your existing policy to include accidents such as putting your foot through the roof.

What does Sainsbury’s contents home insurance offer as standard?

The items within your property is what helps make your house a home. Protecting these belongings with contents insurance can help give you peace of mind and ensure your personal possessions can be replaced should the worst happen.

Like the Home Plus option for buildings, Sainsbury’s Home Plus Contents options will also include Home Emergency Cover and Family Legal Protection cover as standard.

Optional extras

Whether it’s buildings or contents cover or both, Sainsbury’s standard and Plus home insurance allows you to fully customise your cover with its range of optional extras.

Some of these optional extras are included with the Home Insurance Plus option as standard.

Remember: any additional extras you add into your policy will increase the cost of your monthly or annual premiums. So, if you are thinking of going for Sainsbury’s standard cover and are finding you require at least one of the add-ons included with Plus, it may be more cost effective to choose Home Insurance Plus instead.

Enhanced accidental damage cover for contents insurance

Will provide additional cover for the belongings in your home in case of accidents, such as spilling coffee on your new white carpet.

Helps cover the cost of lost or stolen keys. Also includes changing parts of the locks or replacing the locks to your home.

Personal possessions cover

Provides cover for you and your family’s belongings if they become lost, stolen, or are accidentally damaged in the home. This also extends for possessions you take outside the home such as your mobile phone and laptop, with cover provided for travelling anywhere in the world for up to 60 days.

Also includes bike cover away from home whereby if either your – or a family member’s bike – is stolen, lost, or accidentally damaged, you’ll be covered up to £1,000 for each bike.

Excess cover

Will refund the excess you have paid, following any eligible and successfully settled claim on your policy.

If you’ve had to pay out an excess for this claim, or had it be deducted from the settlement you’ve received, you’ll be refunded the excess, up to a maximum of £1,000.

Legal expenses cover (included with Home Insurance Plus)

Cover to pursue legal claims such as an accident where you aren’t at fault, and employment tribunals. Also provides access to a 24-hour legal advice helpline.

Home emergency cover (included with Home Insurance Plus)

Cover of up to £1,000 (including VAT) for call out, labour, parts, and materials to cover an emergency service following an insured event.

Excess and no-claims discount

Although we take out home insurance with the hope that we’ll never need to use it, there may be times when it is unavoidable. If you do need to make a claim through your home insurance, you’ll need to pay out a minimum fee, known as an excess. Excess is usually split into compulsory excess and voluntary excess.

Compulsory excess, also known as fixed excess, is determined by your home insurance provider and is the amount you must pay when making a claim.

Voluntary excess, on the other hand, is an amount paid set by you, the policyholder, and is intended to be what you can afford to contribute if you need to make a claim. The amount you choose to pay as voluntary excess will be in addition to the amount you pay for compulsory excess.

Sainsbury’s states that details about compulsory and voluntary excess will be printed on your policy schedule, so you’ll need to run a quote with them to find out about their minimums.

Why is it a good idea to pay a voluntary excess?

The purpose of voluntary excess is that the more you can contribute towards a claim, the less your premiums will be.

No-claims discount

Sainsbury’s offers a no claims discount (NCD) on both its buildings and contents policies, with each year you go without making a claim, the bigger discount you’ll receive.

Sainsbury’s have stated that your NCD will increase with each year you remain claim free, but they do not specifically state the number of years before discounts will no longer be applied.

Defaqto rating

Both Sainsbury Bank’s Home Insurance and Home Insurance Plus policies were rated 5-stars by Defaqto for 2023.

Coverwise is a very popular UK travel insurer, with especially good value for Annual, Multi-Trip plans whether you're staying in Europe or your travel plans include travelling around the world. We like that all plans include Baggage cover as standard. If you want extended cover for events like volcanic ash and hurricanes then pay around £17 extra for Travel Disruption on a Silver or Gold plan direct (vs buying from a comparison site).

Coverwise Travel Insurance Review: What You Need to Know

Coverwise offers four levels of Annual and Single Trip travel insurance—Standard, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Consumers can either buy Coverwise direct from the Coverwise website or via a comparison site .

Some differences between buying direct and buying from a comparison site are as follows:

  • Prices from comparison sites are usually cheaper, but cover may be lower
  • The Gold plan is only available direct from Coverwise's website
  • The travel disruption add-on is only available on Silver and Gold plans, when purchased direct from Coverwise's website

Trip Cancellation, Emergency Medical, Legal Assistance, Personal Accident and Personal Belongings/Baggage are included on all policies. Silver and Gold policies also include Trip Delay, Missed Departure and Abandonment, Catastrophes and Baggage Delay. Travel Disruption cover (which extends the benefits under the Cancellation , Departure Delay and Missed Departure to include volcanic ash, hurricanes, etc.) is available for an extra cost on Silver and Gold plans when buying direct.

For those heading to the slopes, Winter Sports can be added to all tiers of insurance for an additional cost. Trips involving a cruise are covered as standard on all plans (so long as all destinations are covered under your policy), but we don't see any provision for specific cover such as Cabin Confinement, etc. that you'll find on some specialist Cruise protection add-ons.

Are Mobile Phones Covered? Mobile phones are NOT covered on Coverwise plans. This may not be an issue for you if you already have cover for gadgets (e.g., mobiles, iPads, laptops, etc.) through the Contents cover of your home insurance policy, however. Alternatively, you can add the optional Gadget cover when you buy a policy. However, this only gives you up to £1,000 of protection. If you need more gadget cover through your travel insurance, you can get quotes for travel insurance plans offering higher Gadget cover limits, such as CoverForYou for £1,000, £2,000 or £3,000 of total gadget cover.

Does Coverwise Travel Insurance Cover Trips in the UK? Holidays in the UK are covered under Coverwise Annual, Multi-Trip policies, so long as you pre-booked at least one night’s accommodation in a hotel, motel, holiday camp, bed and breakfast, holiday cottage or similar accommodation rented for a fee.

Pre-Existing Conditions: As part of the online application you'll be asked if you've suffered a medical condition or required prescribed medication, surgery, treatment, tests or investigations within the five years leading up to the policy purchase date. If you have, Coverwise may be able to offer cover for some pre-existing medical conditions for which you'll typically pay a higher premium. Pre-existing conditions are only covered if they've been fully declared, accepted and paid for.

Over 65s: The age limit for travellers on Coverwise's Annual Multi-Trip policies is 65 years or under; travellers must be 75 or under for a Single Trip.

Coverwise Price Comparison

According to our data research, prices of Coverwise Annual Multi-Trip travel insurance bought direct were noticeably lower than the average cost of travel insurance . Coverwise prices were still competitive for Single Trip plans, although less so than their Multi-Trip plans. Single Trip plan premiums can be quite variable depending upon how far ahead they are purchased from the date of travel—when purchased at the last minute, for instance, you'll usually pay less because there is less risk of a pre-trip Cancellation (this does not mean you should wait to buy cover, however, as you're only protected after you buy a policy).

Insurance quotes can vary significantly from day to day and according to your individual details, so please just use the following data for general educational purposes only; your quotes may reflect a large degree of variation.

Buying through a comparison site can secure an even lower price, in most cases. According to our price checks for a 35-year-old individual traveller, buying from a comparison site will save £1 to £11 per policy, as you can see in the following charts.

Cost of Add-On Extras

Travel Disruption cover can be added to Silver and Gold plans, for a cost around £17 for Annual, Multi-Trip plans and closer to £10 or less for Single Trips. Winter Sports may be added for an extra cost to all of Coverwise's travel insurance policies. We've gathered Winter Sports quotes across geographies and types of policies for a 30-year-old individual to give you an idea of the cost of this travel insurance add-on .

We also gathered quotes for Coverwise plans for a family of four—they'll pay on average 2X the cost of an individual policy (basically, kids go free). Below you can see how prices change across geographical locations like Europe and America and policy types for a family of four, when buying direct. Expect slightly lower prices from a comparison site.

How much will you pay for Coverwise travel insurance for a family of 4?

Here are some highlights of features available on Coverwise travel insurance policies. Standard features like Medical and Personal Liability are also included on Coverwise policies, limits for which can be found below in the Policy Limits section . For more complete details like inner limits and exclusions, please refer to the policy documents .

Types of Coverwise Travel Insurance Policies

Coverwise offers four tiers of travel insurance—Standard, Bronze, Silver, Gold. All are available for Single Trips or as Annual, Multi-Trip policies:

Single Trip travel insurance covers trips up to 365 days abroad.

Annual Multi-Trip policies cover any number of trips a policy year, up to 24 or 31 days each. You may be able to extend the maximum trip duration for an extra charge, subject to the underwriter's approval.

Coverwise Standard Travel Insurance

The Standard plan is Coverwise's entry-level travel insurance offering. Emergency Medical expenses are covered up to £20 million and you get up to £1,000 of cover per insured person for Trip Cancellation and Personal Belongings. There is no cover for Abandonment, Missed Departure or Delayed Departure. You can add Winter Sports cover if you're going skiing or snowboarding. Gadget cover is optional.

Coverwise Bronze Travel Insurance

Bronze plans include similar trip length (max 14 days on annual policies) to Standard plans, but offer slightly higher cover levels for some categories, such as Cancellation and Baggage (£1,500 and £1,750, respectively). Still no cover for Abandonment, Missed Departure or Delayed Departure; Winter Sports is optional. Gadget cover is optional.

Coverwise Silver Travel Insurance

Silver policies include longer trip lengths (31 days) for Annual plans, higher limits and the addition of Abandonment, Missed Departure and Delayed Departure. In addition to features of the Bronze plans, you'll get cover such as up to £400 for Baggage Delay. If you buy a Silver plan direct then you can buy the optional Travel Disruption add on provides for insolvency of accommodation providers or their booking agents, plus extends benefits to cover travel, accommodation and some pre-paid charges in the event of volcanic ash clouds (which can overlap with the cover provided by the Catastrophe section), tsunamis, hurricanes or storms. Winter Sports is optional, Gadget and Travel Disruption are optional.

Coverwise Gold Travel Insurance

Coverwise Gold is their top-tier travel insurance plan with the highest cover limits per person. If the Gold premium fits in your budget, you'll get the highest coverage levels with this plan. In addition to features of the Silver plans, you'll get additional cover such as up to £1,000 for Catastrophe cover. Winter Sports is optional. Gadget and Travel Disruption (which can give you a higher limit for problems like catastrophes) are optional.

The optional Travel Disruption add on for Silver, Gold and Platinum policies provides for insolvency of accommodation providers or their booking agents, plus extends benefits to cover travel, accommodation and some pre-paid charges in the event of volcanic ash clouds (which can overlap with the cover provided by the Catastrophe section), tsunamis, hurricanes or storms, and more.

They have also introduced a few other tiers, Standard Plus, Silver Plus and Platinum. Below we highlight the main features for Standard, Bronze, Silver and Gold policies.

Coverwise Cover Limits and Excess Amounts

How does coverwise travel insurance compare to competitors.

To better understand the value of Coverwise travel insurance you need to look at it in the context of other available options. We compared it to other plans in the market so you can see which may be more suitable for you.

Coverwise Travel Insurance vs Admiral Travel Insurance

AA Travel Insurance

Admiral travel insurance is another solid travel insurance company. We particularly like the ability to add £1,000 of gadget cover to their plans. Plus, Admiral's top-tier Gold an dPlatinum plans include Catastrophe cover to provide a financial buffer in case your trip is affected by a natural disaster like a hurricane or earthquake.

Bottom Line: If you want protection against Catastrophes and for your gadgets (e.g., mobile phones) then Admiral may be a solid choice.

Coverwise Travel Insurance vs Sainsbury's Travel Insurance

Sainsbury's Bank

Sainsbury's travel insurance offers good travel cover at decent prices, especially when purchased through a comparison site. All plans include Baggage, Cancellation and Emergency Medical, but you also get Scheduled Airline Failure, Delayed Departure and Trip Abandonment. Extended Gadget cover can be added to all plans to cover mobile phones, iPads, etc. For those going on an extended holiday, you may benefit from trip lengths that are longer than average.

Bottom Line: Those needing cover for longer trips or want cover for gadgets and SAFI might find particularly suitable travel insurance from Sainsbury's Bank.

Coverwise Travel Insurance vs Insure & Go Travel Insurance

Insure&Go Travel Insurance

Insure & Go travel insurance is another travel specialist provider offering some economical holiday cover. Cancellation cover ranges from £1,000 to £10,000 and Baggage from £750 up to £3,000, with prices starting from around £5 for a single trip to Europe. Emergency Medical starts at £5 million and goes up to unlimited cover on top tier plans. The Valuables extension upgrade may be useful if you want more cover for gadgets like mobile phones, laptops, etc. to provide £1k or £2k of valuables cover, starting at a cost of £5.90.

Bottom Line: Insure & Go is another reliable option for travel insurance with the added benefit of optional gadget cover to protect mobile phones, tablets, etc.
