In 2019, Saudi Arabia started issuing tourist visas for the first time. If you've always wanted to visit the kingdom, this could be your chance! A tourist visa allows you to stay in the country for up to 90 consecutive days and is valid for multiple entries over the course of a year. While in Saudi Arabia, respect the country's laws and customs or your visa might be revoked. This includes following the country's dress code while in public places (no shorts or revealing attire). [1] X Research source

Step 1 Check the eligible countries list.

  • If your country is not listed, that doesn't mean you can't visit Saudi Arabia. It simply means you'll have to get a consulate visa through the nearest Saudi embassy or consulate.

Step 2 Create an eVisa account.

  • On the initial account page, provide your name, mobile phone number, and email. Use the first and last name that matches the name listed on your passport, not a nickname.
  • When you create your account, you'll get an email with a link that you'll have to click to activate your account so you can complete the application.

Step 3 Fill out the eVisa application.

  • You'll also be asked to provide information about your employment and marital status.
  • In the section for your passport information, include your passport number, the type of passport you have, the date it was issued, and the date it expires.

Step 4 Upload a digital photo for your visa.

  • Your photo needs to show your whole face looking directly at the camera and must be in front of a white background. Choose a recent photo that was taken within the last 6 months. Don't use your passport photo. [6] X Research source

Step 5 Provide information about your planned trip to Saudi Arabia.

  • The arrival and departure dates don't have to be exact, they just need to be within the next year, since that's how long your visa will be valid.
  • You don't have to book accommodations before you apply for your eVisa (although it's fine if you have). If you haven't made reservations yet, simply include information for the hotel you're planning on staying at.

Step 6 Purchase mandatory health insurance.

  • Even if you have other health insurance or travel insurance that would cover you during your trip, you still have to buy Saudi insurance.

Step 7 Agree to the terms and conditions of visiting Saudi Arabia.

  • All drugs, alcohol, and other intoxicating substances are prohibited in Saudi Arabia. Smuggling drugs into the country is a crime punishable by death. [10] X Research source
  • You can get fined for simple acts that you wouldn't consider a big deal, such as playing loud music or wearing pajamas in public. [11] X Research source If you violate these rules, you risk having your visa revoked and being asked to leave the country immediately.
  • Dress modestly in public places, particularly if you present as female. While female tourists aren't required to wear an abaya (a long, black robe), you might feel more comfortable doing so, especially in more rural areas. [12] X Research source

Step 8 Pay the eVisa fee.

  • Print the receipt and save it for your records.

Step 9 Check your email for your eVisa.

  • Print your eVisa email and keep it with your passport. When you get to the country, the visa will be added to your passport.

Visa on Arrival

Step 1 Confirm that you're eligible for a visa on arrival.

  • Make sure your passport will be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival and that it has at least 2 blank pages.
  • If you're eligible for an eVisa, it's usually a better idea to get one of those than to wait and get a visa on arrival. You'll save yourself a lot of time and hassle.
  • If you're planning on applying for a visa on arrival at a port of entry, make sure you have an international credit card with you that you can use to pay the visa fee. [17] X Research source

Step 2 Book travel on Saudi Arabia's national air carrier.

  • You don't have to enter the country by air. You can also travel to Saudi Arabia via the King Fahad Causeway or the Al Bathaa Land Port.

Step 3 Complete the application form at the visa counter.

  • There may also be self-service kiosks that you can use to enter your information electronically. [20] X Research source

Step 4 Provide documents that confirm your plans in Saudi Arabia.

  • If you aren't eligible to apply for an eVisa, be prepared to show a bank statement and proof of employment.

Step 5 Pay application and health insurance fees.

  • As of 2020, visa fees are SAR 300, plus SAR 140 for health insurance. The total is equal to around US $123.

Consulate Visa

Step 1 Visit the electronic visa services platform (Enjaz).

  • Set up an Enjaz account with a valid email address. Almost immediately after you set up your account, you'll get an email asking you to verify your email address. Once you've verified your email address, you can start the visa application process.

Step 2 Print and fill out the application form.

  • Make sure your answers on both the digital form and the paper form are exactly the same. Your application will be rejected if they differ in any way.

Step 3 Scan and upload your visa photo.

  • In your photo, you must look directly at the camera so that your entire face is visible. Saudi Arabia only accepts photos taken in front of a white background. [27] X Research source

Step 4 Make your visa payment online.

  • Print the receipt for your visa payment and include it with the application documents you send to the visa office.

Step 5 Organize documents to support your application.

  • A passport with at least 6 months of validity
  • Proof of accommodation for the duration of your stay in Saudi Arabia
  • A roundtrip ticket and travel itinerary
  • Proof of employment
  • A bank statement or proof of financial solvency

Step 6 Mail your application and documents to the nearest visa office.

  • Write down your tracking numbers and keep them in a safe place so you can follow your documents as they go to the visa office and as they are returned to you.
  • You can also submit your application through a travel agency approved by the Saudi government. Just keep in mind that they'll charge a fee for their services and there's no guarantee that your visa will be issued. [32] X Research source

Step 7 Wait to receive your documents and visa in the mail.

  • You can check the status of your application through your Enjaz account.
  • You might get called in for an interview. If you're contacted by the visa office, schedule your interview at the earliest possible date to avoid delays. Usually, they just want to ask you questions about your planned trip or verify your documents. They might ask you to bring additional documents or information with you to the interview. [35] X Research source
  • If your application is denied, the embassy or consulate won't give you a reason why. However, you're welcome to reapply. You'll have to pay the application fee again, though. No portion of it is refunded if your application is denied.

Since the launch of the kingdom’s visitor e-visa in 2019, it has eased access for millions and accelerated tourism growth.

Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia also announced the launch of the free 96-hour Stopover Visa, allowing tourists and other visitors to stay in the country for up to four days.

Under Vision 2030 , tourism is expected to contribute 10 percent of the kingdom’s GDP by the end of the decade.

Saudi Arabia has committed $550 billion to new destinations by 2030 and plans to increase international air connectivity from 140 cities to more than 250 by then.

Their knees and shoulders must be fully covered in public places. Furthermore, foreign visitors should avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes or clothing featuring indecent, profane images and language.

Best Time to Visit Saudi Arabia

Winter season is the best time to visit Saudi Arabia. October onwards the country’s weather gets breezy and somewhat colder than it usually is. This weather continues until March. But, Asi Mountain in the country’s South Western part are inaccessible during winters because of excessive fog.

Therefore, you should visit it before November and after February. In KSA, winter are generally pleasant since the max temperature remains 30 degrees centigrade. You can expect light rainfall too. On the other hand, summers are extremely hot and temperatures almost always cross 40 degrees centigrade and may reach 50 degrees. Since it is a hot desert, the country receives less rainfall during summers. KSA’s climate is among the world’s driest.

Hotel Booking Policy for Unmarried Couples Visiting Saudi Arabia

Previously, Saudi Arabian government didn’t allow unmarried foreign couples to rent hotel rooms together anywhere in the country. However, KSA has implemented a new visa policy, allowing female tourists to stay in hotel rooms along, and unmarried couples can also rent rooms. Before this policy, couples visiting KSA had to prove they were married without which they couldn’t rent room in a hotel.

Now that the government of KSA is looking to grow its tourism industry, they have relaxed their strict, and religiously conservative tourism policies. After this policy, Saudi nationals must show family ID or proof of relationship to book hotel room whereas foreign tourists can book a room with their ID only. Alcohol consumption is banned in the country and modest dressing is a mandatory requirement for all tourists.

Saudi Arabia E-Visa Holders Entry Requirements

  • Visitors must never enter KSA with the intention of hindering national security or commit a crime. They also shouldn’t arrive to break the country’s Sharia law, local laws, or violating the norms and values of the country.
  • Tourists should arrive holding the same passport they used when applying for the e-visa.
  • Saudi Arabia e-visa is valid for entering via all seaports and airports.
  • At the time of arriving in KSA, the traveler should carry a copy of the visa.
  • The immigration official will take your biometric details on arrival.
  • The Saudi Arabia e-visa is granted for tourist purposes and to perform an umrah. It is not allowed to use it to find employment in the country. Paid employment is strictly prohibited for e-visa holders.
  • The tourist’s passport should be valid for the next six months after arriving in KSA.
  • The traveler should be able to support their stay during the visit. If arriving with dependents, they must possess sufficient funds and resources to support their stay as well.
  • All tourists will be subject to local laws after arriving in KSA.

Important Points to Remember

  • You will receive the approved e-visa in the form of an email attachment, usually a PDF file.
  • After submitting the evisa application, it is not possible to cancel it or ask for a refund no matter what are the circumstances following your application submission.
  • Unapproved visas are not entitled for a refund.
  • Every applicant will receive an e-invoice of their transaction.
  • Always provide accurate and authentic information in your e-visa application. Applications containing misleading and false info will be rejected.
  • The ministry of tourism and appropriate regulators will decide about approving an e-visa application.
  • An approved e-visa doesn’t guarantee entry into KSA.

The initiative aims to simplify travel for tourists and foster a more accessible visitation process to the country.

According to the updated regulations, nationals from 110 countries are required to obtain a visa prior to their arrival in the UAE.

  • UAE visa update: Citizens of 82 countries can enter without prior visa
  • Citizens of these countries can enter the UAE visa-free: List of 80+ countries
  • UAE passport rises rank on more visa-free travel

Interested individuals can consult the list of exempted countries and visa requirements on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (https://www.mofa.gov.ae/en/visa-exemptions-for-non-citizen) or contact the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Ports Security, and Customs (ICP) for additional information.

The UAE Digital Government clarified that GCC citizens do not need a visa or sponsorship to visit the country. They are eligible for entry by presenting a passport issued by a GCC state or an identity card upon arrival at UAE ports of entry.

Furthermore, individuals abroad are urged to visit the provided link (https://www.visitdubai.com/en/plan-your-trip/visa-information) to access the list of nationalities exempt from prior visa arrangements. Those eligible can obtain a valid entry visa for 30 days upon arrival, with a grace period of 10 days. Additionally, citizens from select countries can obtain a visa for 90 days upon arrival.

For example, citizens of India holding ordinary passports, a visit visa or permanent resident card issued by the USA, or a residence visa in the UK and European Union countries valid for at least six months, allows for a visa on arrival. This grants a stay of 14 days, with the option to extend for an additional 14 days.

In cases where prior visa arrangements are necessary, individuals not falling under visa exemption categories must obtain an entry permit issued by a sponsor before arriving in the UAE. The type of entry permit required, issued by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, depends on the purpose of the visit.
