is star tours disneyland scary

Based on the Star Wars films, Star Tours is one of the most fun rides in Disneyland. The technology allows for 54 different story sequences, enough to keep riders coming back again and again.

The basic tale is simple: A bumbling droid pilot accidentally takes a bunch of space tourists down the wrong tunnel at takeoff, jumps to light speed and careens through the universe before getting things under control again. You'll run into characters from many of the Star Wars films and travel through more than a few of its locales, all in quick succession. It all passes so quickly that even a devoted fan might have to ride a dozen times to catch it all.

What You Need to Know About the Star Tours Ride at Disneyland

For most visitors, Star Tours is a must-do ride — or at least ride it if you have time.

  • Location:  Star Tours is in Tomorrowland
  • Rating:  ★★★★★
  • Restrictions:  40 inches (102 cm). Regardless of height, children under age seven years must be accompanied by a person aged 14 years or older.
  • Ride Time:  4.5 minutes
  • Recommended for:  Families with teens and anyone who loves the Star Wars movies
  • Fun Factor:  High. Star Tours is  one of the best rides at Disneyland .
  • Wait Factor:  High. Use a  Fastpass to shorten your time in line . The Fastpass ticket machines are across from the Star Tours entrance, near Buzz Lightyear
  • Fear Factor:  Medium. Some scenes are exciting, but not too scary.
  • Herky-Jerky Factor:  Medium to high. This star-chasing ride is smoother than when it first opened, but Disney still says it's not for anyone a neck or back trouble, heart problems or for expectant mothers. The motion simulator moves smoothly but simulates drops and rolls that will shake you around.
  • Nausea Factor:  Medium to high. Take precautions or be prepared to spend part of the ride with your eyes closed. You can also ask a Cast Member to seat you in the middle, where there is less motion.
  • Seating:  This ride is a small motion simulator room. It has several rows, and every seat has a seatbelt.
  • Accessibility:  Contact a Cast Member at the entrance for boarding information. Guests have to transfer to the ride vehicle by themselves or with help from their companions. Some of the pre-show monitors display guest-activated captioning. Cast Members can help you with this, too. Service animals can't go on Star Tours.  More about visiting Disneyland in a wheelchair or ECV

How to Have More Fun

  • There's  lots of simulated danger  on Star Tours, and  it can be noisy .
  • If you wear prescription glasses , you can slip the 3D glasses over all but the largest frames.
  • The 3D glasses come in one size only  and are too big for a small child’s face. A simple solution is just don't wear them. Most kids don’t seem to mind that things get a little blurry without them - and they won’t be startled or scared by things that come flying toward them in the 3-D effect. Or try perching the glasses on the child’s nose, tilt them forward and rest the earpieces on top of their head.
  • Rider swap is available. It's for two adults with a kid or kids who don't ride. They can wait just once and get on as soon as the first adult returns. Tell the Cast Member in the loading area if you want to use that option.

You can  see all the Disneyland rides at a glance on the Disneyland ride sheet .

While you're thinking about rides, you should also  download the essential Disneyland apps (they're all free!) and  get some proven tips to minimize your Disneyland wait time .

When you wait in line for Star Tours, you may hear an overhead speaker paging Egroeg Sacul, which is George Lucas spelled backward.

You may also hear an announcement to move landspeeder THX 1138, another reference to George Lucas: It was the name of his first film, the license plate number in "American Graffiti", and the call sign of a stormtrooper in "Star Wars: A New Hope."

The flight simulator used to create this ride is the same one used to train airplane pilots.

How scary is Star Tours?

I understand that Star Tours is a stimmulated ride with just a screen, but I'm not fond of dips/rollercoasters so I was wondering how intense it is? I've been on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and was fine on that. I'm also fine on POTC and RSR. Do you guys think I'll be okay? Or is it a little to intense for me? I know that there's various storylines but is there lots of drops, normally?

On our rugged Eastern foothills.....

It's a flight simulator. The motion effects feel like a fairly mild roller coaster.

Dis veteran.

There is no drops--it is nothing like a roller coaster. It is just like a chair in a room (the floor doesn't drop or anything) that shakes you around to make it feel like you are flying in a space ship. The floor never leaves your feet and you don't go anywhere except side to side and some forward tilting and shaking. I am not a roller coaster person either (I have gone on Matterhorn, but didn't like it!) and was never once scared on Star Tours. The only thing I have felt on Star Tours is car sick (motion sickness), but it isn't as bad as it use to be. The old version was much worse as far as the motion sickness for me. It is a fun and exciting ride and not scary. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the replies, it doesn't sound that bad and I'm gonna try it out! I was just apprehensive because you can't really tell from the videos how intense it is and I always like to know before I go on rides.

It's significantly less intense than Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

If you can handle Harry Potter and Forbidden Journey, you can handle Star Tours.

I am a chicken little and didn't find it scary. Motion sick a little-yes BUT the best part about Star Tours is that if it bothers you, you can just close your eyes! Which I did a time or 2 and because of the description Lisaincalifornia gave, nothing unexpected happens when they are closed lol!

I am the biggest roller coaster/ride chicken ever and I can handle Star Tours. In fact, I look forward to it every time we go to H.S. You may feel a little anxious the first time because you don't know what to expect, but it's really fun and not scary. Nothing like a roller coaster!

I don't think it's scary and my 3 oldest kids love it. I will agree with others about the motion sickness if that is an issue for you (it is for me and only because an issue after having kids).

I love Star Tours, it's one of my favorite rides! I think my kids would be scared however. It feels like you are in a spaceship which is about to wreck or crash into something. I hate roller coasters and love Star Tours. I think you should give it a try! Midnightred

Is Disney’s Star Tours Scary?  Assessing the Scare Factor

Is Disney’s Star Tours Scary to Ride? Find out in today's article!

If you love Disney World, and you love Star Wars, then you may be wondering to yourself the following: Is Disney’s Star Tours scary?  Well, we’re going to answer that question today, as we break down this ride’s speed, intensity, loud noises, and whether it has any drops.

How Scary is Disney’s Star Tours?

Theming – Scary Level Zero: Star Tours features outstanding theming and details that are impressive as soon as you approach the ride. The inside queue area is filled with elements that will delight any Star Wars fan.  Story – Scary Level Zero to One: As with many of the “dark” (inside) attractions at Walt Disney World, this is more than just a simple ride. There is a creative storyline that immerses the guest in the action. What makes the story for this ride particularly unique is that it changes every time you ride it.

There are over 60 possible storylines that could happen on the ride, and they change randomly thought the day. The story (any version) emphasizes adventure more than any scary element, although the action becomes exciting when your tour vehicle is chased by either Darth Vader, or members of the First Order. There are thrills and narrowly missed disasters, but nothing that is too scary. Smaller children might find some of it a little bit scary. Ride Speed – Scary Level Zero: Since this is a motion simulator ride, it’s not really moving very fast. The 3D scenes on the video screen, along with the ride movement can make it feel like fast movement. Drops and Intensity – Scary Level One: There are a few drops during this ride, as well as some bumps, tilting, and jolts. The movements combined with the 3D video create a believable illusion of being on a pretty intense ride. In actuality, the movement isn’t as dramatic as it feels. Age Appropriate – Star Tours is appropriate for any age, as long as they meet the height requirement of 40 inches tall. The Walt Disney World website rates it as being appropriate for kids, tweens, teens, and adults.

Still unsure if Star Tours is something you want to ride? Here are more details about this fun attraction.

Disney’s Star Tours Theming and Premise

Although this is an older and smaller ride than the newer Star Wars attractions in the “Galaxy’s Edge” section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this ride is still fun for any Star Wars fan. In the outside queue area, the landscape is meant to resemble the planet Endor, with huge towering trees and an impressive “life-sized” abandoned AT-AT Walker vehicle. Once inside the building, guests become space tourists, getting ready to board a flight inside this spaceport (like an airport, but for space travel!). There are arrival and departure signs similar to what you might see in any modern airport. There are also travel posters advertising vacations to exotic planets.

There are several animatronic characters in this area, including C-3PO and R2-D2. As you wind your way through the line, you’ll encounter droids who are scanning the luggage of travelers. Take a peek at the scanners to see some of the funny items that show up in the luggage, and listen to the droids joking with one another. As you move past this processing area, you’ll be given your “flight glasses”. These are the 3D glasses you’ll need to see the action on the screen during the ride. Next, passengers will be directed by a Star Tours Crew member to a waiting area for pre-flight instructions.  In this area, you’ll watch a video screen where C-3PO, who was doing maintenance on the vehicle, has become accidentally trapped in the cockpit.  As C-3PO tries to explain his predicament, the screen switches to safety instructions for all passengers (seat belt instructions, etc.) After the safety instruction, you are okay to board the StarSpeeder 1000 for your voyage! The StarSpeeder is similar to a small theater room, seating about 40 people. The doors to the vehicle will shut, and the room is somewhat dark so you will have a good view of the screen. At the front of the “vehicle”, you’ll see C-3PO having a conversation with R2-D2 about how he’s not supposed to be in the cockpit. The StarSpeeder takes off as scheduled, with C-3PO along for the ride. At this point, your adventure begins! The StarSpeeder begins to take off, with C-3PO still protesting that there’s been a mistake and he’s not really the captain. Just before the vehicle is about to leave the spaceport, either Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, or Kylo Ren will arrive, announcing that they are there to apprehend a known rebel spy that is on board the craft.

They even have a photo of the spy – which then shows on a small screen like a “wanted” notice. Who is the spy? It could be anyone on the ride! Just before boarding the ride, a photo will secretly be taken of one random passenger, and at this point in the story, their photo will be shown on the screen as the rebel spy. The “spy” doesn’t have any active role to play, but it’s fun to see who in the crowd gets chosen.

The StarSpeeder then flies off at a high rate of speed, trying to evade the Imperial forces and protect the spy. From here on, the details of the story have many variations. In fact, there are 66 possible versions of the storyline that could occur, and they don’t repeat themselves throughout the day.

You could ride Star Tours several times a day and the experience will be different each time. The story variations all involve traveling to different planets, encountering different characters from the Star Wars saga, and of course, there will be a crash landing, an ambush, or some other element of danger no matter what planet the StarSpeeder visits. After escaping some catastrophe, your craft will then receive a holographic transmission from one of several famous Star Wars characters. These characters are portrayed by the actors from Star Wars movies. A fan favorite is the transmission from Princess Leia Organa, which was created from unused archival film footage of Carrie Fisher. The hologram message will confirm that there is indeed a spy onboard, and transmits coordinates to transport the spy to where they are needed. Then, your StarSpeeder is off for the last part of this adventure. Your craft will travel to one of five possible destinations, engaging in a battle to safely deliver the spy to the Rebel forces. After safely completing the mission, your StarSpeeder returns to the Star Tours spaceport, where C-3PO thanks you for choosing Star Tours for your travel needs.

You’ll exit the ride through the “Tatooine Traders” gift shop, where a large variety of Star Wars merchandise is available.

Disney’s Star Tours Ride Speed

Star Tours doesn’t actually move at a fast speed, although the 3D video technology gives an impressive illusion of flying through space. The speed is not constant, and there are several moments where the ride will jump into hyperspace, then seem to slow down or momentarily stop, according to the storyline.

The 3D imagery is effective, but it has been known to make some people feel a little bit dizzy or even nauseous. If you feel dizzy, momentarily shutting your eyes or looking away from the screen usually helps.

Disney’s Star Tours Drops and Intensity

While the individual seats on Star Tours don’t move, the entire room does tilt, shake, jostle, and move about. The ride is actually supported on six huge pistons that are distributed at different points in the room. Depending on the story you’re experiencing, there are a couple of moments where the spacecraft seems to drop, but it’s a relatively small drop.

While the craft is fleeing the Imperial forces or engaging in a battle, the craft will tilt from side to side and shake quite a bit.  Coupled with the 3D video, this experience can be moderately intense. Passengers seated in the back row will feel the motion more pronounced than those sitting in the middle of the room. If you are concerned that the movement will be too intense for you, ask a cast member if you can be seated in the middle part of the ride.

  • You May Also Enjoy : Is Jungle Cruise Scary?

Star Tours is an exciting 3D adventure ride that is a favorite of Star Wars fans. But you may still be leery and wondering the same question we started with: is Disney’s Star Tours scary?

Well, the premise of the ride certainly isn’t scary; it’s the physical experience that can be a little unsettling. The motion from this ride, enhanced by the 3D video technology, can be uncomfortable if you’re prone to motion sickness. Younger children might be a little bit scared of Darth Vader or the Stormtroopers, or during some of the battle scenes, as well.

The action moves quickly, so the “scary” parts of the story are quickly overtaken by excitement and the surprise of encountering favorite characters. Since there are so many possible story variations, Star Tours is a thrilling new experience each time you ride it. If 3D movies give you a headache, you might want to reconsider riding Star Tours. Taking motion sickness medication ahead of time is helpful, and there are many brands available that have no drowsy side effects. Guests have to be 40 inches tall to ride this ride. Any guests who are using an ECV (electric convenience vehicle) will need to transfer to a wheelchair in the queue area, then be able to transfer to the ride seat. The Walt Disney World website cautions that guests who ride Star Tours should be free from high blood pressure, and heart, back, or neck problems. Expectant mothers should not ride Star Tours.

Average Wait Times:  Star Tours can experience variable wait times depending on the day and season. During peak hours, wait times can range from 30 minutes to over an hour.

Height Requirements:  To board Star Tours, guests must be at least 40 inches tall. This requirement ensures the safety and comfort of all riders, as the motion simulator involves dynamic movements that may not be suitable for younger or smaller guests.

Single Rider:  Single Rider is available on this attraction.

Ride Duration:  The total experience, from pre-show to the end of the ride, typically lasts around 20 minutes. This includes the time spent in the queue, the pre-boarding area, the 3D motion simulator experience, and any additional post-show elements.

Genie+ and Lightning Lane:  Genie+ and Lightning Lane are available for this attraction, which provides expedited access to the ride, reducing wait times for those who opt for this premium service.

Rider Switch:  For families with young padawans who may not meet the height requirement, Disney’s Rider Switch service allows one adult to wait with the non-riding child while the rest of the party experiences the attraction. Afterward, the waiting adult and another guest can switch places without having to wait in line again.

Disability Access Services (DAS):  Disneyland is committed to providing a magical experience for all guests. The Disability Access Service (DAS) program is available for those with disabilities, allowing them to obtain return times for attractions, including Star Tours, based on current wait times.

Best Time to Ride:  Weekdays, especially Tuesdays and Wednesdays, tend to see lower attendance, translating to shorter wait times. Additionally, early mornings and late evenings are opportune moments to visit, as crowds are typically thinner during these times. Check out our crowd calendar for best times to visit!

Speeder in space

I remember the first time I went to Disneyland in 1995. Star Tours was the very first attraction I ever went on, and continued to be a tradition for my family as the first attraction we always went on when we went to Disneyland. Of course, since then, a lot of changes have happened, including a total revamp of the attraction into what it is today.

Star Tours, as I’m sure you’ve gathered, is a Star Wars experience where guests are invited to take a tour from planet to planet aboard a starspeeder. Your job is to simply sit and enjoy the ride as the pilot drives you to your destination. Of course, if this actually happened, it would be the most boring attraction ever. So that’s not what happens!

Star Tours Review

The original Star Tours was the same ride every time you took it. Rex was your pilot, a robot with some quirky flaws and a sense for danger and adventure. After this attraction received its revamp, it became a lot more interesting. Rex the pilot was replaced by C3PO (Rex is now found over in Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge) and what was once the same every time is now available in over 40 different combinations.

Disney teamed up with Lucasfilm for the revamp and decided to make the attraction 3D, with the ability to tell a different story each time. Basically, there are 4 sections that make up your adventure. A beginning scene which determines how you exit the docking bay, a second scene after coming out of light speed, a transmission message from someone and then a final battle scene that concludes with you docking the ship.

Because there are multiple versions of each of these 4 sections, you could see a different adventure each time you board Star Tours. It’s actually quite fun and keeps things interesting. And since Disney purchased Lucasfilm several years back, they continue to add new scenes from the new Star Wars films as they come out.

Star Tours C3PO

One of the cooler things that happened after the revamp is the inclusion of a Star Tours guest into the story each time you ride. Before the attraction begins, a photo is taken of a randomly selected guest, who is then inserted into the story as a Rebel Spy. They very lightly become the focus of the mission (or some missions) as Star Tours races to deliver the spy safely.

I’ve been the Rebel Spy twice in all my years of riding, and it’s actually pretty fun. They even have a tee-shirt that you can purchase in the shop afterward that says, “I am the Rebel Spy,” or something along those lines.

So here’s what you can expect when you ride Star Tours at Disneyland Park: There are three lines available for this attractions. First is the standby line, which I can’t describe very well at the beginning because I’ve never waited in it. You can expect to wait about 30-45 minutes in this line before being boarded.

The second line is Lightning Lane (LL) and that takes you directly into the main building and past the standby line but through all the same rooms.

The LL line typically takes you right into the second room before you come to a stop, so there’s a decent amount of line that you skip. You can expect to wait about 10-15 minutes before boarding.

The third line is a Single Rider line that they added in 2019. It basically does the same thing as the other 2 lines but it usually much faster. Keep in mind that you’re typically separated from your party when loaded at the gates, though this attraction gives you a better chance of being loaded with someone in your group than most.

Once you enter the main building, you’ll weave through one room that features a Starspeeder with R2D2 and C3PO.

Star Tours Attraction Review

You’ll then take a ramp into a second room, where you’ll be entertained by 2 robots, both voiced by the ever-talented Patrick Warburton. From here you’ll be boarded into different gates based on the number of people in your group. Once you arrive at your gate you’ll also be boarded into rows, again, based on the number of people in your group.

You’ll stand here for a little while and watch a video on what’s going on in the hangar as you wait for your Starspeeder to arrive. You’ll also be given some instructions. Once it’s your turn to board, the doors in front of you will open, and you’ll enter the ship and take your seat. Store all your backpacks and jackets under the seat, put your seatbelt on and prepare for a seatbelt check with a Cast Member.

Star Tours Disneyland

Once the seatbelt check is completed, you’ll be advised to put your flight glasses on. The room will go dark after a few seconds, and then the ride begins! C3PO has no idea what’s going on, and you’re about to get into a whole lot of trouble and fun. Since each experience is different, I won’t describe them, but you’ll have fun not matter what.

This is a simulation attraction that has 3D glasses and moves up and down and side to side. If you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to skip riding or take some medicine beforehand.

When your ride is over, you’ll remove your seatbelt and exit the ship. Be sure to turn in your flight glasses and enjoy some Star Wars shopping!

Here’s a video of one of my last experiences with Star Tours at Disneyland :

  • Star Tours is a Lightning Lane attraction, which I would recommend using early in the morning if you really want to go on it, as spots fill up quickly.
  • If you’re looking for a really fast boarding and don’t mind being split up, use the Single Rider line.
  • If you really want to try and be the rebel spy on your adventure, then try sitting in the very back row, about 3-4 seats in from the exit side of the attraction.
  • This attraction does have a height limit, so make sure you plan accordingly with smaller children. Use the Rider Switch if needed.

For more attraction reviews, be sure to visit Park Savers main Disneyland Resort Attractions Review  page. I also have a great  planning guide for guests who are going to the Disneyland Resort soon. For discounted tickets to the parks, be sure to see Park Savers current ticket pricing .

Five Things to Know About Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Star Tours was Disney’s first modern simulator ride, and based on the Star Wars saga it was (as Yoda would say). Thanks to over 700 possible scene combinations in the high-def 3-D film at the heart of the attraction, you could ride all day and not have the same experience twice! Read on to learn more – or if you’d rather zip through hyperspace to the nuts and bolts, here’s your shortcut .

1. You enter the spaceport under an AT-AT.

Your Star Tours adventure begins outdoors, where the surroundings have been designed to resemble an Ewok Village (as seen in Return of the Jedi). You get to pass under a full-size AT-AT walker to get to the entrance of the ride’s building, which in and of itself is pretty cool.

is star tours disneyland scary

Once indoors, you’ll find yourself in a spaceport where C-3PO and R2-D2 are working on your ride vehicle, the Starspeeder 1000. These life-size audio animatronics look and move exactly like their cinematic counterparts. The queue captures the familiar feeling of a train station or airport of today, but as it might exist in a galaxy far, far, away. It’s complete with a flight status board, weather reports, even a luggage scanner.

is star tours disneyland scary

Just before you board, you’ll watch on overhead screens as C-3PO gets trapped in the Starspeeder cockpit while doing maintenance. After you enter the simulator and don your 3D glasses, the doors shut on C-3PO’s complaints about accidentally becoming the pilot, and your Starspeeder takes off.

2. You won’t know who you’ll see or where you’ll go.

The ride’s plotline comprises five general segments: an escape scene, a destination, a mission, another destination, and a concluding scene. Disney has multiple film clips from all nine episodes of the Star Wars saga that can be used for each segment of your journey, which creates a different experience each time you ride. So basically, you won’t know where you’ll go or which Star Wars characters you will see!

is star tours disneyland scary

There are some limitations on how the scenes can be mixed, for instance, characters and scenes from Episodes 7-9 are not mixed with those from earlier movies. Still, it’s been noted by Star Wars purists that the randomized scenes can create a confusing timeline. Probably because of this, the ride experiences are not considered canonical in the Star Wars universe. But that doesn’t make them any less fun!

3. You may be the Rebel Spy!

In the escape scene at the opening, a villain (maybe Vader, maybe Kylo Ren, or ???) is searching for a Rebel Spy. A picture of an actual guest riding with you is shown onscreen and they are identified as being the spy. They’re chosen randomly or by a Cast Member and it can add a bit of fun if it’s someone in your own group – maybe even you!

Once you’ve made your escape, you may find yourself attacking AT-ATs, joining a pod race, being pursued by Tie Fighters, or more. The simulator is modeled after those used for training pilots and astronauts, so you’ll experience real dips, turns, twists, and climbs. It can be a little rough, but all the bouncing around helps to create a pretty realistic experience.

Star Tours - The Adventures Continue

You’ll make it back into hyperspace and the action will pause for a moment. You can catch your breath, and receive your mission from a Star Wars character who appears as a hologram. Sometimes the mission is just to deliver the Rebel Spy to safety, but there are other plotlines . Then you’ll take off and visit another planet for some more action.

Your adventure ends after a jump to hyperspace and a landing on Batuu, or possibly Spaceport THX1138 (the number is a nod to George Lucas’ first film), or one of a few other conclusion scenes. The entire attraction lasts about 7 minutes, the ride portion is about four and a half minutes. You’ll exit through the space terminal and into the Tatooine Traders gift shop, designed to suggest a desert outpost in Mos Espa.

4. It was different, a long time ago…

The first Star Tours attraction opened in 1987 at Disneyland, four years after the release of Return of the Jedi. Disney World’s version came two years later, in 1989. Since there was no Galaxy’s Edge at that time, it was placed in the Echo Lake area of Hollywood Studios.

This original version only had three movies (Episodes 4 through 6) to work with, and the premise was clear and simple. Star Tours was a transportation agency offering trips to Endor. However, according to the droid pilot R-3X (“Rex”), it was his first day on the job and he wasn’t used to his programming. As a result of his mistakes, guests never made it to Endor. But their ride did include crashing through comets, jumping to light speed, and the classic trench run on the Death Star.

Star Tours closed in 2010 for updates, and reopened as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue in 2011. Rex was retired from this version, but later became a DJ. You can see him today at Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Fun fact: R-3X was voiced by the late Paul Reubens.

Today’s version offers 3D film and randomized scenes, and Disney updates the adventures with newer characters. A Jakku scene was added in 2015 for The Force Awakens, Crait was added in 2017 for The Last Jedi, and the planet Kef Bir was added in 2019, after the release of The Rise of Skywalker. As Disney continues to add new scenes, the number of possible adventures changes over time.

5. The Nuts and Bolts.

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue is located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Echo Lake between the Backlot Express and Grand Avenue. Since the attraction is indoors, it is not affected by weather, although part of the (covered) queue is outdoors.

You’ll be seated in rows in the Starspeeder 1000 simulator. Each of the five rows has 8 padded seats with a fabric lap belt and a shared armrest. A net bag below each seat holds your stuff.

is star tours disneyland scary

Guests must transfer to a wheelchair and then to the ride vehicle. Disney advises that you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride.

Guests must be at least 40″ tall to ride, and as with all attractions that have a height limit, Rider Switch is available .  It’s worth noting that flashing lights, the use of weapons, loud sounds, and the appearance of aliens or intimidating figures may frighten or disturb some guests, especially the younger set. Service animals are not allowed. Video Captioning and Handheld Captioning are available.

Wait times for Star Tours are very low in the first two hours the park is open. It’s also a good choice between noon and 4 p.m. Alternatively, you can secure Lightning Lane entry via Genie+. Star Tours: the Adventures Continue is also open for both Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Theme Park Hours.

The Bottom Line.

Our recommendation: Star Tours: The Adventures Continue is not to be missed. Would it be nicer if it were in Galaxy’s Edge? Maybe. Nevertheless, it offers a great experience from takeoff to landing. No matter where you go or who you see!

Disneyland Star Tours Review

Sharing is caring!

is star tours disneyland scary

The long wait is over and Star Tours The Adventure Continues is now open in Disneyland. This weekend my family and I braved the considerable crowds but were fortunate enough to have Fast Passes for the brand new version of this classic Disney ride. Star Tours is now back on my list of Top 5 favorite Disney rides. I decided to leave the actual review to someone who knows way more about Star Wars than I. My husband Richard! So here is what he thought of the new ride:

I finally got to try out the new Star Tours – the Adventures Continue – at Disneyland this weekend. It’s advertised as all-new, with brand new 3D sequences and 54 different versions of the ride. I went on the ride twice, quite a feat considering the wait times, but was dismayed to find I was sitting through exactly the same story! What are the chances of that? (OK, smart people might say 1 in 54, but I’m guessing it’s even less than that. Read on for why…)

First things first. Spoiler alert coming. I should say now that this post includes details of one of the 54 new stories, plus observations from the brand new waiting line, so if you don’t want to know, stop reading now.

is star tours disneyland scary

OK, I was exaggerating slightly, since there was a slight difference between the two rides. In the first story, Yoda delivers information about a spy who has hidden on board the ship. In the second, this is done by a holographic projection of Princess Leia. Very impressive, since for the show they re-used the message hidden inside R2-D2 by the Princess shortly before the Tantive IV was captured in A New Hope. There may have been lip-syncing going on, but it was hard to see. The script was definitely adjusted to make use of the original, especially ‘you are our only hope’. The spy turned out to be one of our fellow passengers, and a photo of them was shown on a video screen at the side of the main screen.

I absolutely loved the ride, particularly the use of C3PO as the rookie pilot caught in the auto-launch sequence. My son told me there must be five C3POs in the ride in total (one in the line and one on each of the four shuttle ships. Not bad for a five year old).

As you attempt to take off from the space port, Darth Vader, flanked by a battalion of storm troopers (some with jet packs) attempts to intercept you. He uses his dark force powers to throw the ship around in new ways. This must have stretched the simulator’s capabilities far more than originally expected.

You are then pursued by a group of 3D TIE fighters as you try to head into hyperspace.

The jump to lightspeed felt a lot more realistic in the new simulator. Of course I haven’t really got anything to compare this against (the California speed limit forces me to keep my car under 65 mph at all times).

On exiting lightspeed, you end up joining the Battle of Hoth where several AT-ATs either step on you or collapse on you after a snowspeeder succeeds in lassoing their legs.

After the next lightspeed jump you arrive in the rings around the planet Geonosis, where Jango Fett is waiting to give chase in Slave I through the asteroids that make up the rings. You weave through the asteroid field with some great effects, courtesy of the Star Tours the simulator. Actually since this story is supposed to be set around Episodes II and III I wonder if this is actually a grown-up Boba? Also, since he appears to fall foul of one of his own seismic charges, is this consistent with the story? Sorry, maybe I’m taking this too seriously now…

The final exciting sequence takes you into the Death Star, which is under construction. You enter through an open hole in the side and speed through tight corridors, just like those in Return of the Jedi, before plummeting down a huge shaft filled with ships. One of these ships is the Millenium Falcon, but it speeds past in an instant and is hard to spot (my son saw it too).

is star tours disneyland scary

A new and entertaining wait line slightly makes up for the wait time (120 minutes yesterday for anyone without a Fastpass). The line shows the weather on various destination planets including Mustafar (ash cloud approaching, of course). I didn’t spot Hoth on there but guessed it was going to be cold.

I also loved the silhouetted shadows passing by the window in the line and spotted a number of familiar shapes: Chancellor Palpatine (again since this is set around Episodes 2 and 3 I assume he hasn’t made emperor yet), several Jedi, plus an R2 droid. R2 gets zapped by a bunch of pesky jawas, falls over and is carried off, Episode IV-style.

I was left wondering how they will rotate the different endings. Maybe they are truly random, in which case the probability of my seeing the same show twice was indeed 1 in 54. Or maybe they limit the variation a bit. If it was my ride, I’d hold back some special endings for really special occasions.

They ruined this ride! I did not realize until I went to board that you had to wear 3 D glasses! All well and good for normal seeing people, but for anyone with eye issues it is horrible! You can't take the glasses off because everything is distorted! With the glasses on my eyes were strained to the max! If you looked down through the bottom of the glasses you saw rainbows! I got off the ride feeling like I would throw up! This was previously one of my favorite rides, now I will never go on it again! I do not understand why everything has to be 3D! Disney takes in to account accommodations for other disabilities but seems to have forgotten those with visual disabilities on this ride!

Opening on January 9th, 1987, Star Tours is a classic simulator ride that throws you right into the action in a galaxy far, far away . But how scary is Star Tours ? Let’s take a look at the ratings:

star tours

1. Ride Length

Star Tours has a ride duration of 4 minutes and 23 seconds. With hundreds of ride variations and possibilities, the run time remains around 4 and a half minutes each time.

2. Height Requirement and Warnings

Star Tours has a height requirement of 40 inches. In addition, pregnant riders and those with high blood pressure, as well as those with heart, back, or neck problems should not ride.

3. Ride Vehicles and Restraints

The Star Tours ride vehicles consist of a basic simulator seating 40 passengers in 5 rows of 8. Each guest gets their own seatbelt and are seated very close together – making this ride feel extremely warm and stuffy at full capacity.

4. How Does Star Tours Work?

Star Tours works like a standard mall simulator – thrusting its passengers up, down, and side to side (often roughly). What makes this attraction unique are the hundreds of ride possibilitie s due to various segments that mix and match. Like Tower of Terror , every ride is randomized and you could get any combination of the many possible segments on the ride.

Touring Plans has a great article listing out all known ride variations – check it out here !

is star tours disneyland scary

5. Is Star Tours Scary?

Star Tours is not intentionally scary, but is still a very thrilling (and rough) ride that sometimes lends itself to sensory overload. Regardless of the variation you get, there are loud noises , flashing lights , jerky movements , villainous characters , and significant peril throughout the ride.

When I rode it a couple of months ago, I was really surprised at how intense it was. Having not ridden it in years, I told my husband that Star Tours would feel like a dinky mall simulator compared to the newer, bigger rides like Rise of the Resistance and Smugglers Run . I was wrong. While certainly not as technologically advanced as other rides, this attraction still packs in the action with some vibrant visuals , energetic movement , and (of course) its amazing soundtrack .

It should also be noted that the ride will definitely change depending on who you’re riding with. For example, last time we rode with a cabin full of excited kids and – with the screaming amplified in the small space – my husband and I both felt overwhelmed by the time we got off. Just be aware of this if you or someone in your party is prone to sensory sensitivity of any kind.

6. How High is Star Tours?

Star Tours does not technically involve heights. However, as a Star Wars -themed simulator, you often find yourself “airborne” – flying over various planets and through deep space. In my opinion, the flight scenes are not nearly as impactful as – say, Soarin’ or Flight of Passage – due to the smaller screen and fast-paced action of this ride.

7. How Fast is Star Tours?

Star Tours does not technically go fast. As a stationary simulator, the ride certainly makes you feel like you’re zooming through fantastic landscapes, but is actually just moving you up and down and side to side at all times.

8. Does Star Tours Have Drops?

Star Tours does not technically have drops. However, the ride does simulate many thrilling maneuvers regardless of which variation you get – many of which involve drops.

9. Does Star Tours Cause Motion Sickness?

Star Tours causes motion sickness for many riders. Due to it’s rapidly moving visuals , rough movement , and stuffy interior , this attraction is one of the worst for motion sickness. In fact, my husband (who feels sick after most simulator rides) felt awful after this one. Besides Mission: Space in Epcot – this one had the biggest impact on him.

10. Is Star Tours Claustrophobic?

Star Tours is extremely claustrophobic. While the ride vehicles – seating up to 40 passengers – may seem fairly spacious to some, the cabin feels very confining . Aside from there being limited air flow , the seats are very close together , making for a hot and stuffy ride. In my opinion – this attraction, Tower of Terror , and Mission: Space are easily the most claustrophobic in Walt Disney World. Do you agree? Let me know in the comments!

11. Are There Animatronics on Star Tours ?

There is an advanced animatronic of C-3PO on Star Tours . While he is definitely a friendly face and beloved character, many could consider this animatronic to be a little too close for comfort. Located at the very front of the ride vehicle to the left of the screen, those sitting in the front row will be almost within arms reach of him. If you or someone in your party is extremely averse to animatronics , you may may want to be prepared for this.

In addition to the ride, there are also animatronics of R2D2 and a couple other droids in the queue – though they are not nearly as in-your-face or close to you.

is star tours disneyland scary

Star Tours Queue Walkthrough

The queue entrance is located outside on the far left side of Hollywood Studios and takes you through a shady outdoor area designed to look like the forests of Endor . You’ll pass under the legs of a huge imperial walker before making your way inside.

From there, the line winds through a large windowless area where you’ll find some amazing theming as well as animatronics of a silver protocol droid, R2D2 , and a couple of other worker droids along the way. The line will take you up several ramps and hallways until you reach the loading station.

This ride loads much like a theater attraction and you will be led into various rows as you prepare to board the simulator.

Star Tours Ride Walkthrough

The ride will begin after everyone buckles in and the cast member gives their safety spiel. C-3PO will flash up on the screen exclaiming that the “captain isn’t on board yet” before the walls open to reveal the screen with our golden friend in the pilot’s seat.

While your ride experience could be one of hundreds of variations, each one includes explosions , gunfire , villainous characters , and crash landings . Unfortunately, this is definitely a ride where you’ll just have to expect the unexpected – but again, be sure to check out Touring Plans ‘ great article on all known segment possibilities here ! That will at least give you an idea of what you’re in for.

That’s it! Remember, everyone’s riding experience is a little bit different and only you can decide whether to hop on that ride vehicle or not – I just hope this guide helps you be prepared and enjoy every second of your Disney experience!

Avoid These Disney Rides if You Are Prone to Motion Sickness

Being a theme park enthusiast can be a challenge when you experience motion sickness. Attractions can affect every individual differently, so having some degree of self-awareness about which ride elements might trigger your motion sickness can help you navigate questionable Disney ride experiences.

In this planning guide:

Be Aware of Disney Rides That Could Be Potential Triggers

Knowing which attractions might hamper your enjoyment can prevent unpleasant physical symptoms during your Disney Parks day. Read on to learn which Disney rides have motion-sickness potential so you can weigh our guidance against your personal tendencies and make sound decisions about which rides you might want to avoid! We will cover rides that could cause motion sickness at both Disney World and Disneyland.

Remy's Ratatouille Adventure

Have you ever gotten sick while scrolling your mobile device or watching a movie on a tablet from the back seat of a moving car? Do virtual reality gaming headsets like the Oculus cause you dizziness or nausea? If so, you may want to be wary of this attraction, despite its tremendous aesthetic appeal.

The motion of the trackless ride vehicle itself is smooth and generally easy on the senses, but the scenes on EPCOT's Remy's Ratatouille Adventure rely heavily on large screens that make it look as if you are actually moving through the 4D digital environment. It's an amazing effect, and I'm fortunately still able to enjoy the ride, but it makes me dizzy enough that I need to take a brief break from rides for a little while afterward.

Mission Space

This NASA-inspired motion simulation attraction has become notorious for making guests seriously ill during its tenure at EPCOT, and due to this unfortunate reality, Disney provides a tamer ride experience for those who struggle with motion sickness. The “Orange Mission” is still available for thrill seekers brave enough to test themselves against the Gravitron-style centrifuge used to simulate the G-forces astronauts experience upon the launch and re-entry of a spacecraft.

If you experience motion sickness at all, you'll definitely want to opt for the less intense “Green Mission.” It's important to note, however, that this version of the ride is still a motion simulator that requires riders to sit inside a confined enclosed area while viewing a screen that creates the illusion of space travel, so some level of discomfort is still possible, especially if you're claustrophobic. Be aware that both versions of the attraction provide small “sickbags” for each passenger, so do with that information what you will!

Mad Tea Party

Technically, it's possible to simply sit still inside your candy-hued teacup on this classic ride without spinning the saucer at all. Refusing to turn the steering wheel won't keep you from traveling in larger circles around the base of the attraction, though. Spinning is an inherent component of the Mad Tea Party, so if that sort of motion makes you as dizzy as it does me, you might want to settle for watching the pretty colors whirl past from the sidelines.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Based on the descriptions I read about this exciting EPCOT attraction before I experienced it for the first time, I assumed I would need to take anti-nausea medication to prepare for it or wear motion sickness wristbands while riding. A fast-moving “Omnicoaster” with screens and a ride vehicle that rotates 360 degrees sounds like a recipe for queasiness.

So, I was surprised to discover this ride didn't cause me discomfort in the slightest, and instead, I found it to be absolutely exhilarating. However, our bodies experience attractions differently, and there are a couple of important factors to note about Cosmic Rewind before you dance your way through interstellar space.

This coaster features a reverse launch, and although the individual ride vehicles don't spin constantly, they do rotate toward show scenes while moving at high speeds along the track. A giant bowed screen, featuring an enormous celestial being and astral objects whizzing by, creates the backdrop for the ride. Those who feel averse to traveling backward, motion simulation videos, or accelerating in a non-forward-facing position may want to proceed with caution or avoid the ride portion of this attraction.

I recommend walking through the Xandar pavilion to tour the “Galaxarium” (like a planetarium), viewing the wonders of Xandar exhibits, and watching the fun Guardians pre-show even if you decide to exit before boarding the ride.

Avatar Flight of Passage

I sometimes refer to Avatar Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom as “Soarin' 6.0.” Like Soarin', it uses a screen to immerse guests in the attraction environment— Pandora, in this case—and a uniquely designed flight simulator allows guests to imagine they're riding on the back of a “banshee” through lush forests, behind waterfalls, and over mystic mountains. The effect is quite convincing if you can stomach the tilts and drops synced with the movement of the camera, especially on Flight of Passage, which also incorporates 3D technology.

Neither of these attractions has ever bothered me in the past, but during the pandemic, I realized why. My family took a trip to Disney World in May of 2021 when Disney was still implementing COVID protocols. We rode Flight of Passage, and the air vents, which normally blow directly into your face while riding, were turned off as a precaution against viral spread. Without moving air to create the illusion of rushing wind, I experienced some moderate nausea on the ride.

Soarin' also usually features a similar wind effect. Considering this experience, it's safe to say the potential for motion sickness on these attractions definitely exists.

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Another motion simulator attraction designed to mimic space travel, Star Tours at Disney's Hollywood Studios seats guests in rows on a destination-bound “starspeeder” that tilts, rumbles, and jolts through a randomized series of planetary settings. Like in Avatar Flight of Passage, guests wear 3-D glasses for the full immersive effect of the digital video viewed through the front windshield of the spacecraft. If other screen-based motion-simulator attractions make you feel ill, there's a strong possibility this one will too.

Classic Spinners (and Carousels)!

Any ride designed to repeatedly travel in circles is obviously going to make some of us feel as if we're going to lose the churros we enjoyed earlier. Whether it's the beloved flying elephant, Astro Orbiter, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Golden Zephyr, or Silly Symphony Swings, if it spins, it's highly likely to cause nausea and dizziness for guests who suffer from motion sickness. King Arthur's Carousel may spin more slowly than these other midway-style attractions, but charm notwithstanding, don't underestimate the vomit-inducing potential of the vintage merry-go-round and other rides like it.

Expedition Everest

If you're averse to the stomach-dropping sensation rollercoasters are famous for producing, you should generally steer clear of them altogether. Personally, spinning and screens are my primary triggers, and I'm a big fan of rollercoasters. But, even if most coasters don't bother you, there may be a few exceptions that cause unexpected feelings of unease due to certain ride elements. Hurling backward through a dark mountain on Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom might be one of those surprise factors for some people.

Incredicoaster and Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith

In addition to accelerating in reverse, inversions are another coaster design element that can affect the magnitude of gravitational forces acting on ride passengers, which both Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure and Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney's Hollywood Studios feature.

Although the Incredicoaster (one of the best rollercoasters at Disneyland ) only has one loop, it also boasts a 108-foot drop (creating more G-forces), and prior to the three inversions it performs as it zooms through the neon lights of its dark L.A. night setting, Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster speeds from 0-57 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds. These are somewhat intense thrill rides, so if increased gravitational forces make you queasy, you'll want to skip them completely.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout

This quintessential Hollywood Studios attraction and its Disney California Adventure cousin offer similar experiences with different theming. Both feature a randomized sequence of drops designed to simulate a free-fall experience. Drop tower rides can create an airborne effect that actually raises you out of your seat as you are pulled downward. This feeling can be really discomforting to some people, so if you have doubts, avoid Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage

Those who plan to avoid Mission Space due to claustrophobia might consider skipping this underwater Disneyland attraction , too. A slow-moving voyage through the coral-laden miniature “big blue world” in a cheerful yellow submarine might not seem overtly threatening, but between the small enclosed cabin with minimal airflow and snug seating facing sideways out into the lagoon, this ride can get really hot, stuffy, and downright unpleasant. It's also not a brief experience, so be aware you could end up with prolonged discomfort if you do decide to ride.

This is not an exhaustive list, and there is certainly potential for motion sickness on rides not listed above. If you're in doubt about a particular attraction, watching a complete ride-through video on YouTube can be a good way to feel it out. However, the only way to know for sure if a ride will have an undesired effect on you personally is to try it yourself.

Two G2 droids process passengers’ “luggage” on a scanning system that reveals the contents to you as you wait in the queue.

You’ll then retrieve your 3-D “flight glasses” before you are directed by a flight agent to a gate where you’ll wait to board.

But as soon as it appears that your trip is back on track, your ship is intercepted by Imperial — or First Order — forces searching for a Rebel spy. This spy is chosen from one of the guests on your ride vehicle— it could even be you!

To avoid capture and not give up your rebel passenger, you’ll be taken on the ride of a lifetime to the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

Since the attraction features several different segments that are selected randomly, your ride will be different each time! You may end up facing off with First Order villain Kylo Ren, bounty hunter Boba Fett, Princess Leia, or Jedi Master Yoda.

Just a few of the scenes you may encounter is a narrow escape from a battle on the planet Crait, following Scout Troopers as they chase after Chewbacca and a Wookiee warrior on Kashyyk, or discovering the still-to-be-finished Death Star.

With so many story twists, you never know where you’ll go or who you may encounter on your Star Tour!

May the Force be with you as you and your fellow passengers attempt to elude capture and make it back to the base on Star Tours – The Adventures Continue.

Is Star Tours – The Adventures Continue Kid-Friendly?

In 1986 Disney and George Lucas, the creator of  Star Wars , partnered on the Captain EO attraction, a 3-D musical film starring Michael Jackson at Disneyland. Since the partnership was so successful Disney then approached Lucas with the idea for Star Tours.

The original Star Tours ride opened on January 9, 1987 in California’s Disneyland. Two years later, Star Tours opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, then known as Disney’s MGM Studios.

Set in the  Star Wars  universe, the motion simulator attraction sent guests on a tour to Endor, where they got caught in an altercation between the New Republic and an Imperial Remnant. The attraction featured Captain “Rex” RX-24 along with series regulars R2-D2 and C-3PO.

In 1998, Disney began planning to upgrade Star Tours as part of the release of the upcoming 1999 film  Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace , the first film of the new prequel trilogy.

This version would be in 3D and feature new flights. However, since more films for the franchise were in pre-production, officials chose to wait until 2003 when production began on  Revenge of the Sith  before remodeling Star Tours.

In April 2005, at  Star Wars  Celebration III, creator George Lucas confirmed that a revamp of Star Tours was in production. Then at the 2009 D23 Expo it was announced that Star Tours at Disneyland and Hollywood Studios would close in October 2010 for renovations.

The rides would reopen in May and June 2011 as Star Tours – The Adventures Continue.

On August 14, 2010, Hollywood Studios hosted the “Last Tour To Endor” event for Celebration V attendees. This extravaganza included an appearance by George Lucas, character appearances, Jedi Training Academy, Death Star Disco,  Raiders Of The Lost Jedi Temple of Doom: A Fan Film of Epic Proportions  live show, Hyperspace Hoopla, and  Symphony in the Stars  fireworks.

It also included the Star Tours shutdown ceremony which was a live show with C-3PO, R2-D2, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, as well as a few Stormtroopers, culminating in the official power-down of Star Tours.

The ride remained open until September 7, 2010, when the attraction held its “Final Flight to Endor” for D23 members.

In Orlando, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue began soft openings on May 14, 2011, with the official opening held at midnight on May 20, 2011.

Since its opening, the planet Jakku from  The Force Awakens  has been added to the attraction as well as the planet Crait from  The Last Jedi  and Batuu, from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Finally, the ocean moon Kef Bir from  The Rise of Skywalker  was added on December 20, 2019, the film’s release date.

In 2023, Disney announced at Destination D23 that Ahoska would be added to Star Tours in spring 2024 .

Other Fun Details

  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is inspired by all nine films of the Star Wars Skywalker saga: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Episode IV – A New Hope, Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Empire VI – Return of the Jedi, Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, and Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker .
  • There are Star Tours attractions at four different Disney Parks around the world: Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland in California.

at at outside star tours

  • The exteriors of all four Star Tours attractions are different in their respective parks. The attraction in Florida is inspired by an Ewok village on the forest moon of Endor.
  • Listen closely just before boarding your spaceship. You may hear a reference to THX1138. THX1138 was in all of the Star Wars movies because it was the name of George Lucas’ first movie, so he included it in all of the Star Wars films as a nod to his origin.
  • Other boarding call announcements in the first area of the indoor wait queue gives names that are actually anagrams for people like  Star Wars  creator George Lucas (“Egroeg Sacul”) and Tom Morrow (“Mot Worrom”). When you reach the baggage check area, many different Disney attractions and franchises like Haunted Mansion ,  Toy Story, Aladdin, WALL-E, The Incredibles , and  Captain EO get cameos as G2-9T scans boarding IDs.
  • Paul Reubens, perhaps better known for his famous character, Pee Wee Herman, was actually the voice of Captain RX-24 (Rex) in the original Star Tours ride. He was the pilot talking as R2-D2 was being loaded. In the new version of the ride, you can see him in the droid maintenance section in the queue.

c3p0 on star tours

  • Patrick Warburton, who is known for delivering the safety spiel before boarding Soarin’ at Epcot and for also voicing Kronk in Emperor’s New Groove , is the voice of security officer G2-4Ton Star Tours — The Adventures Continue. You can spot him as you pass through a series of security scanners.
  • As part of the attraction, you’ll see scenes with archival footage of Princess Leia, played by Carrie Fisher. The dialogue, however, is re-recorded. Carrie Fisher collaborated with Imagineers to re-record her dialogue so that it fits the attraction seamlessly.
  • While the original Star Tours ride didn’t open until 1989, Imagineers originally had an idea for a simulator ride themed to another Disney movie. The 1979 live-action film  The Black Hole  followed astronauts investigating a mysterious spaceship inside a black hole, but it was a commercial flop. This, combined with the high costs for the planned ride, led to the concept being scrapped. It wasn’t until Disney partnered with George Lucas and Lucasfilm in 1986, that the simulator idea was revisited, this time with Star Wars in mind.

Disney's Genie+ and Lightening Lane

Disneyland Rise of the Resistance lightening lane

I know you want to experience all of the Disneyland Star Wars rides.  There are a few ways to avoid lines.  The best option is Disney Genie+. It is amazing!

You do have to pay extra to get it, but 100% wouldn't visit Disneyland and not get it.  Totally worth the extra money.

Disney Genie + allows you to use the lightning lane.  The lightning lane is a fast lane where you get to skip the line.  It is awesome!  You can use the Disney Genie + on almost all of the Disneyland Star Wars rides.

Rise of The Resistance Disneyland Ride

The Rise of the Resistance Disneyland ride is the only Disneyland Star Wars ride where they charge you more than Genie+ to ride.  It is such a popular ride that they can actually charge $25 to skip the line. That price is only good for 1 ride.

I would consider it if the line was over 90 minutes and I knew this was the only opportunity I was going to have to ride it.

How Many Star Wars Rides are at Disneyland?

There are four rides but lots of other fun things to do in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.

Let's dive into all the best Disney Star Wars Land rides and fun Star Wars things to do at Disneyland!

1. Rise of the Resistance Disneyland Ride

Disneyland Star Wars Ride- Rise of the Resistance

Height Requirement : 40 inches or Taller

Lightening Lane: $25

Rise of the Resistance Disneyland ride is unlike any ride you have ever experienced.  I am not going to give away all the secrets of the ride! Just know that this ride is intense, loud, and entertaining the entire time.

Is Rise of the Resistance Scary?

The ride starts by helping the resistance find special recruits for a secret mission. The First Order is all around and on your trail the entire ride.  You might be captured by the First Order which could be scary to a small child. I didn't think the ride was scary.

How to Ride Rise of the Resistance

In the past, there was a Rise of the Resistance virtual queue you could enter on the Disney app.  This would put you into the Rise of the Resistance boarding group. Your app was the Rise of the Resistance boarding pass.  This is how we were able to go on the Rise of the Resistance ride the first time.

Now you have two options.  You can wait in the stand-by line or you can purchase a Lightening Lane Pass.

Lightening Lane

If you want to skip the line, Rise of the Resistance Disneyland ride does have a Lightening Lane option.  Because this ride is one of the most popular in the entire park it is expensive!

It is not included in the Disney Genie+ but has to be purchased separately. One ride in the lightning lane will cost $25.

Best Time to Ride Rise of the Resistance

Unless you are really lucky, the line tends to be 40+ minutes most of the day.  It is not uncommon for the Rise of the Resistance Disneyland ride to break down.  This will add wait time as well.

The best time to ride the Rise of the Resistance Disneyland ride is first thing in the morning.  Get there at rope drop and run to Star Wars Galaxy Edge.  Around lunch is another good time to check wait times.

If you are in a hurry and you don't mind the cost, the Lightening Lane might be the way to go.

The Rise of the Resistance ride is awesome and should be at the top of your Star Wars Disneyland ride picks!

2. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Disneyland Ride

Smugglers Run Disneyland

Height Requirement : 38 inches or Taller

Disney Genie + : Included

Smugglers Run Disneyland Ride is a must! This ride gets you on board of the Millennium Falcon.  You will have the opportunity to be a pilot, engineer, or gunner.

Disneyland Millennium Falcon

You virtually get to fly the Millennium Falcon.  The pilot has full control unless the pilot isn't doing their job and then it will automate.  At certain times during the ride, the engineers will fix problems, and the gunners will attack enemy ships.

Single Rider Lane

The fastest way to ride Smuggler's Run is to jump into the single-rider lane. My son and I rode 3-4 times in a row! We maybe waited 5-10 minutes each time. Most of the time we were still on the same ship.  You are not guaranteed to be put together but luck was on our side.

Riding Smuggler's Run is about the best Millennium Falcon Disney experience you can have. It is awesome for a Star Wars fan!

3. Star Tours The Adventure Continues

Disneyland Star Wars Rides - Star Tours

Disney Genie+: Included

One of the best Star Wars Disneyland rides has been around for a long time. In fact, it was first brought to Disneyland in 1987 by George Lucas himself.

The Star Tours Disneyland ride is not located in Galaxy's Edge. It is in Tomorrowland.

Disneyland Star Wars Rides

This is my favorite Disneyland Star Wars ride.  There are 700 different ride scenarios.  I like to ride this ride about 3 times every time I go to Disneyland. I love watching the different segments! Every time it is a new adventure!

Everything about this Disneyland Star Wars ride makes me happy! I love how themed it is.  It is such a classic!

4. Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain

Disney land Star Wars Rides - Space Mountain

Height Requirement: 40 Inches or Taller

Disney Genie +: Included

Space Mountain is located in Tomorrowland.  It has been around since 1977.  It is the best ride at Disneyland! I absolutely love it!

Disneyland in May is the best time to experience Hyper Space Mountain. Hyper Space Mountain is only open for limited times of the year.  Typically around May the 4th be with you!  Usually the month of May and into June.

During Hyper Space Mountain you will jump into hyperspace and fly into a Star Wars adventure.  It is action-packed!

Is Hyperspace Mountain Scary?

If you love roller coasters, this is one of the best.  If you are afraid of the dark, you might think Hyperspace Mountain is scary.  But I think most will find it more exciting to jump into hyperspace and zip through the galaxy than scary.

These top 4 Disneyland Star Wars rides are amazing, but there is actually a lot more to do in Star Wars Land! We are going to jump into all the other fun things to do at Star Wars Galaxy Edge.

5. Disneyland Star Wars Character Meet and Greet

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Characters - Darth Vader Disneyland

Disneyland character meet and greets at Disneyland are so fun! At Disneyland Star Wars Galaxy Edge you will find your favorite characters.

The Star Wars characters will be walking around Batuu.  They will usually stop and a line can be formed to get a picture with them.

Most Common Star Wars Disneyland Characters

  • Fennec Shand
  • First Order Storm Troopers

You may even see the Mandalorian and Grogu in Batuu.

Darth Vader Disneyland Sightings

Darth Vader does not always make an appearance.  During Disneyland in May (Star Wars Month) you will be able to find him in Tomorrowland.

6. Star Wars Photo Opportunities

Star Wars Galaxy Edge Pictures

Star Wars Galaxy Edge is so detailed! It really feels like you have jumped onto another planet.

Needless to say, you can get some great photos.  There are droids, spaceships, and Instagramable photos throughout the entire Disneyland Star Wars Land.

Strike a Pose

Remember to take pictures! Holy Cow. the detail in Star Wars Land is incredible!

7. Build a Droid at Disneyland

Galaxy's Edge Droid Depot

You can build a Droid at Disneyland at the Black Spire Outpost industrial depot. This experience is pretty cool! You can choose between a BB series, an R-Series, or a C series.

There is a conveyer belt where you can pick up the different parts of your droid. You will then be brought to a place where you can assemble the droid.  It only takes about 15 minutes to complete the droid experience.

How Much is a Droid at Disneyland?

$99 +tax  is the cost of a droid at Disneyland.  You can also purchase additional accessories for your droid.

Do I Need to Book Reservations for the Droid Depot?

There are some walk-in spots available, but booking a reservation is the best way to go if you know this is something you really want to do.

8. Savi's Handbuilt Light Saber Workshop

Star Wars light sabers

Savi's Workshop hand built Lightsaber is located at Black Spire Outpost. This secret workshop is hidden from the First Order.

If you want to have an authentic Star Wars Galaxy Edge lightsaber experience, Savi's is the place.  You will be able to choose your color of light saber and assemble it. This Star Wars experience will take you about 20-30 minutes to complete.

Is a Reservation Needed for Savi's Disneyland Lightsaber Experience?

Yes, You can make a reservation up to 60 days before your trip. If you do not get a reservation you will have the option to purchase light sabers throughout Star Wars Land.

9. Download the Play Disney App

Star Wars Galaxy Edge App

The Disney Play App is awesome! Once you enter Galaxy's Edge and land on the planet of Batuu, the Disney Play app becomes a Star Wars Datapad.  You can use it to do a variety of things.

  • Translate Galactic Languages
  • Tune into Secret Transmission
  • Hack into Droids
  • Scan Encrypted Cargo
  • Discover Hidden Items

With the data pad, you can take on jobs.  You can choose to help the resistance or the First Order. As you wait in line for the Star Wars Disneyland rides. You can do tasks for whichever side your choose to help.

Our Experience

We always use the app while waiting in lines.  In Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, we scanned different QR codes as we waited. My kids loved doing the task and it helped make the wait go so much faster.

10. Oga's Cantina

Disneyland Star Wars Galaxy Edge

Disneyland Oga's Cantina is one of the most popular places in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.  If you want to experience it, you will need to make a reservation 60 day in advance.  These reservations go fast!

Oga serves primarily drinks.  There are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. There are a few snacks served.  One of the main highlights is the Droid DJ playing some awesome music.

If you can get a reservation, this is a fun place to visit at Star Wars Galaxy Edge at Disneyland! I have read that there are a limited amount spots for those who did not get a reservation. You can always ask!

11. Docking Bay 7

Star Wars Land food

Docking Bay 7 is a quick-service restaurant in Galaxy's Edge.  You can easily pull up your app and Mobile Order .  It is awesome.

Docking Bay 7 has a limited menu but offers some staples for Star Wars Land.

12. Ronto Roasters

Star Wars Land food

If you want some exotic meat this is your place. You can get grilled sausage or a meat wrap. The Ronto Wrap is the most popular item to grab.

Ronto Roasters also has mobile ordering available.

13. Try Green or Blue Milk at the Milk Stand

Disneyland Blue Milk

Luke Skywalker was seen in Episode IV A New Hope enjoying Blue Milk and in episode VIII enjoying green milk.

The Milk Stand on Batuu gives you the opportunity to give it a try.  To be clear, this drink does not contain milk at all! It is a fruity smoothie.

My Experience

I had heard that the blue milk was better than the green milk.  I really wasn't a fan however, it is a right of passage when you visit Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.  You will want to try it out when you visit!

14. Shop on Batuu

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Merchandise

Batuu is filled with stores with awesome Star Wars merchandise.

First Order Cargo

If you like the dark side the First Order Cargo Store is where you will want to find your appeal and Disneyland souvenirs .  This is also the place where you can join the First Order.

Dok Ondar's Den of Antiques

If you are looking for the Galaxy's rarest treasure, Dok Ondar's is your place.  There are lots of rare and valuable goods. As well as lightsabers, plush characters, and apparel.

Other Stores on Batuu

  • Black Spire Outfitters
  • Resistance Supply
  • Creature Stall
  • Toydarian Toymaker

15. Head to Downtown Disney

Star Wars Trading post Downtown Disney in Anahiem

I am so excited to tell you about Downtown Disney .  You do not need a park ticket to enjoy the Star Wars Trading Post in Downtown Disney. It is located outside of the Disney Parks.

This fun-themed store is awesome to check out! There are lots of Star Wars merchandise and even authentic lightsabers.

This is a great place to have a Disneyland Star Wars experience.

The Disneyland Star Wars rides are awesome! This is a total opinion. They are all fun but my favorite is Star Tours!  But out of the new rides, I think Rise of the Resistance is better than Smugglers Run.

INTRODUCTION

This flight simulator ride is inspired by places and events in the Star Wars movies. The StarSpeeder 1000 takes passengers to a variety of different planets in the Star Wars universe where they will experience several different adventures, as well as encounter some familiar characters along the way! With more than 50 different combinations, guests can have a new experience with every flight. Star Tours is located at the entrance to Tomorrowland.

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is an updated version of the original Star Tours attraction which opened in 1987 and closed in 2010. While the original attraction featured only one destination and one flight experience, the new version takes travelers to three different locations – and frequent flyers will find that it’s rarely the same three places! In fact there are 54 different experiences with destinations like Naboo, Tatooine, Hoth, Kashyyk and Coruscant. All of the film footage is brand new and was filmed in digital 3D, giving it additional depth and realism.

Queue : The queue winds through the terminal area of the Star Tours spaceport and will remind anyone who has ever traveled via air of the airport experience, complete with security scans and luggage screening. Large flight status displays on the walls list the arrivals, departures and destinations of upcoming flights. Audio-animatronic characters, including C-3PO and R2-D2, are engaged in various tasks like equipment maintenance while the G2-9T droid dutifully screens baggage (be on the lookout for some odd contents in some of the bags).

Before boarding their StarSpeeder 1000 guests will view a short safety video featuring spokesbot Aly San San, describing loading procedures and seat belts.

Star Tours : Designed by teams from both Disney Imagineering and George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic, the 40-seat flight simulator combines motion with an action-packed 3D video to send passengers soaring into an unforgettable journey. C-3PO and R2-D2 are your droid pilots as a run-of-the-mill interplanetary flight unexpectedly becomes a perilous mission to protect a Rebel spy from the Galactic Empire. The five-and-a-half-minute ride is full of thrills as it travels through hyperspace to its multiple destinations, which might include a pod race on Tatooine, a speeder pursuit on Kashyyk or an underwater submarine chase on Naboo. C-3PO and R2-D2 eventually manage to land the Starspeeder and its passengers safely at their destination.

TOURING TIPS

Star Tours Mural

The height requirement for Star Tours is 40 inches. Young children should be accompanied by an adult.

Because the motion simulator can be fairly rough, pregnant women and people with other medical considerations, including motion sickness, and back and neck problems, are advised not to ride Star Tours.

There is less motion in the middle of the vehicle near its center of gravity. Those wishing to experience the widest range of motion will find it in the back row, especially on the ends. Cast Members will usually accommodate seating requests if possible.

There is a net bag under the seat and all loose items must be secured during the flight.

Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs must transfer out to ride this attraction. Ask a cast member at the entrance for boarding instructions.

Guest-activated captioning is available at this attraction.

The nearest restrooms are located between Star Tours and the Plaza Inn.

KIDS AND CHARACTERS

This attraction is quite popular with most kids who have seen the Star Wars movies. But others may find it scary, and those who are prone to motion sickness probably should not ride.

The Jedi Training Academy offers prospective Padawans the opportunity to train to be Jedi Knights. Training sessions are held several times a day at the Tomorrowland Terrace – check your daily Times Guide for times.

The Plaza Inn is located just outside Tomorrowland, and serves a Character breakfast. Lunch and dinner offerings include fried chicken, meatloaf, pasta, fish, salad, and desserts.

Tomorrowland Terrace offers burgers and sandwiches for lunch and dinner, and also serves a quick-service breakfast.

Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port – offering pizza, pasta, and salads, is on the far end of Tomorrowland next to Space Mountain.

Disneyland Restaurants at a Glance Menus Around the Disneyland Resort

The Star Trader gift shop located at the exit of Star Tours offers a variety of merchandise based on all of the Star Wars movies, including build-your-own lightsaber, t-shirts, action figures, Lego kits, books, and posters.

INTERESTING FACTS

Star Tours opened on January 9, 1987. Star Tours – The Adventures Continue opened on June 3, 2011.

The flight simulator used in the StarSpeeder 1000 is the same used by the military to train pilots.

There are a total of 54 different combinations of the film elements. Two different opening scenes (Darth Vader or Skytroopers), three different second scenes (Hoth, Kashyyk or Tatooine), three different character interactions (Admiral Ackbar, Princess Leia, or Yoda), and three different finales (Death Star/Rebel Flagship, Coruscant, or Naboo). Other Star Wars characters that might appear are Boba Fett, Sebulba, Chewbacca, and Jar Jar Binks.

Many of the actors in the Rebel Flagship scene are Lucasfilm employees or Disney Imagineers.

Anthony Daniels reprises his role as the voice of protocol droid C-3PO. Actress Allison Janney provides the voice of spaceport spokesbot Aly San San.

Star Wars fans may recognize the line “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” This line has been used in all of the Star Wars films by various characters as part of a running gag. It is part of some (but not all) of the 54 different sequences.

The flight status displays in the queue alternate between the English and Aurebesh languages.

Star Tours is located in the building occupied by the former Adventure Through Innerspace attraction.

Meet the new Star Wars droids roaming around Disneyland

The new dancing droids debuted at the launch of Disney's Season of the Force event, along with new faces on the oldest Star Wars ride, a laughing Jabba the Hutt popcorn bucket and much more.

Disney's new Star Wars BDX droids

  • Brooke McDonald
  • April 11, 2024

Someone must have yelled “Punch it!” because Disney just hit the hyperdrive on “Star Wars” updates in Disney parks.

First up, Disney’s oldest Star Wars ride now features some of the franchise’s freshest characters and creatures. On April 5, Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris debuted new characters and scenes, inspired by the Disney+ series “Ahsoka,” “Andor” and “The Mandalorian,” on “Star Tours — The Adventures Continue.”

The debut coincided with the launch of Disneyland Resort’s Season of the Force, a nearly two-month Star Wars-themed celebration, which runs through June 2. The kickoff introduced an impressive number of additions to Disneyland from a galaxy far, far away, including the limited-time debut of roaming character Sabine Wren from “Ahsoka” and “Star Wars Rebels,” new food and drinks, viral souvenir merchandise, a free scavenger hunt, new fireworks, and — the runaway robotic show-stealers — adorable free-roaming droids.

Introducing Disney’s New BDX Droids

For more than 40 years, Star Wars fans have been as enamored with the franchise’s droid characters as with its living, breathing beings, so Walt Disney Imagineering couldn’t have chosen a better story and setting than Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for the public debut of their latest robotic innovation — expressive, free-roaming robotic characters called BDX droids.

MORE: Disney’s first Star Wars ride is getting a big update and some star power

Seamlessly integrated into Disneyland’s highly-immersive Star Wars-themed land, the adorable little “explorer droids” have their own backstory. Built from recycled parts, these newly “restored units” are still in training. They roam the parks accompanied by a droid trainer, who warns audiences that they are young and still learning.

Bursting with personality, the little droids perform scans on the crowd, collecting data and looking for bounty hunters and other troublemakers — though sometimes they also get into some trouble of their own. I caught one of the droids shaking its little droid behind at the crowd — as you can see in the following video . The trainer jokingly admonished the droid, named “Grek,” for being a bit inappropriate — eliciting endless giggles from the crowd.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Brooke Geiger McDonald (@brookegmcdonald)

The droids are highly emotive, using sound, head tilts, eyes that light up, responsive antennae, bouncing, waving and even dancing to engage adoring onlookers. They also interact with each other like supportive and sometimes mischievous little siblings.

The BDX droids will roam around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland on a daily basis during Season of the Force. Be sure to check the Disneyland app for daily times.

The droids were also featured in the debut episode of Disney’s new YouTube series, “ We Call It Imagineering ,” which provides an inside look into Walt Disney Imagineering’s creative and design process. The show was inspired by segments filmed of Walt Disney as he walked viewers though the process of designing and building Disneyland.

In addition to the BDX droids, the first episode, focused on audio-animatronics, provides first looks at stunning new audio-animatronic figures coming this summer to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World, and later this year to Disneyland.

The Mandalorian and Grogu, Ahsoka and Cassian Andor Join Star Tours

Star Tours has been around since 1987 at Disneyland Park and 1989 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but the 3D flight simulator ride has been refreshed throughout the years, adding new scenes, storylines and popular characters as they join the Star Wars universe.

Tom Fitzgerald, senior creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering and a leading creative force behind Star Tours since its inception, calls the ride “the greatest hits attraction of the Star Wars universe.”

Star Tours Disneyland

Piloted by C-3PO and navigated by R2-D2, the Starspeeder 1000 ship takes passengers to multiple destinations during four randomized main scenes from across the Star Wars timeline. Randomization enables the addition of scenes featuring characters and locations from new films and — for the first time ever — Disney+ series, without having to retire longstanding favorites.

“When these characters become beloved to our guests and fans, Star Tours gives us a chance to add them in and enrich that attraction so it can keep growing and growing and growing with Star Wars,” Fitzgerald said.

With the updates that debuted on April 5, Star Tours flights could now include an urgent message from Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor or Din Djarin and Grogu, aka The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda.

characters from the mandalorian

Each of the transmissions adds a different tone to the scene — Andor is urgent and mysterious; Ahsoka is warm, confident and earnest; and “father and son” Din and Grogu elicit the usual “Awwws,” along with a laugh-out-loud, classic Grogu moment.

For a limited time, guests can expect to see one of the three new transmissions, and will also travel to the ride’s new destination, the planet Seatos, where the Starspeeder flies alongside Ahsoka in her T-6 Jedi shuttle in a space battle amongst a pod of Purrgil, as seen in the new attraction poster below.

Seatos: New Destination on Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at Disneyland Park

You could also experience a new opening scene featuring Ahsoka fending off Stormtroopers with her two white lightsabers before springing into her ship and taking off.

The Purrgil, a majestic species of “space whales” capable of traveling through hyperspace, were first introduced in the animated series “Star Wars Rebels,” before making their live-action debut in “Ahsoka” alongside a number of other “Rebels” characters.

Sabine Wren Debuts at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland

Sabine Wren Disneyland

In addition to the Purrgil, a surprise additional “Star Wars Rebels” and “Ahsoka” character was introduced on April 5. Sabine Wren, Mandalorian member and Padawan to Ahsoka Tano, made her limited-time debut in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Season of the Force. I got a chance to talk to Sabine during her first appearance on Friday. Hear from her in the video below:

The Force Is Stronger At Disneyland

The new additions to Star Tours debuted at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California, but diehard Star Wars fans have good reason to feel drawn to the West Coast, particularly through June 2 during Season of the Force.

The celebration includes limited-time Star Wars experiences and offerings like Hyperspace Mountain, a Star Wars-themed overlay to Space Mountain that many agree is better than the original.

Hyperspace Mountain at Disneyland

A few of the celebration’s food and beverage souvenirs also got everyone’s attention. A perfectly recreated Jabba the Hutt popcorn bucket makes Jabba’s signature sinister laugh when his mouth is open, and the bucket comes with a clip-on Salacious B. Crumb, Jabba’s sidekick and pet Kowakian monkey-lizard.

Jabba the Hutt Popcorn Bucket

At Oga’s Cantina, the popular watering hole in Galaxy’s Edge, two drinks have been resurrected from Walt Disney World’s spectacular but recently shuttered Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience. The Silver Sea Martini and Fiery Mustafarian, cocktails previously served onboard the Halcyon starcruiser, are being sold in souvenir glasses bearing the Chandrila Star Line logo from Galactic Starcruiser.

Season of the Force Disneyland Seek and Find

New Star Wars Fireworks Light Up the Skies

Star Tours updates weren’t the only permanent debut during Season of the Force. First announced as a limited-time offering, “Fire of the Rising Moons” is a new nighttime experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that reframes Disneyland Park’s fireworks by adding dynamic lighting along with music from John Williams’ iconic film scores and Star Wars Disney parks attractions, to be seen and heard from any of three viewing locations within the land.

"Fire of the Rising Moons” in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park

Disney Live Entertainment executive creative director Michael Serna confirmed that the show will stick around beyond Season of the Force, and will change to coincide with Disneyland’s main show. Because “Fire of the Rising Moons” is choreographed and paired with music paced to the main show, Serna says with each different show, “you’ll want to come back because you’ll hear different things and the show will actually have a whole different profile.”

Star Tours - The Adventures Continue poster

Starting April 5, 2024, Disney Parks fans at Walt Disney World , Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland Paris can experience new characters and adventures on the popular Star Tours attraction. Those who choose to ride the Star Wars -themed motion simulator ride will have the chance to encounter destinations and characters from popular Disney+ series like Ahsoka , The Mandalorian , and Andor .

The new additions to the attraction bring the total number of potential storylines that riders can get to 250. During the attraction, guests may experience an urgent message from Ahsoka Tano, Dan Djarin and Grogu, or Cassian Andor, among other plot lines like visiting the planet Seatos from the Ahsoka series .

History of Upgrades on Star Tours

When Star Tours opened at Disneyland Park in 1987, it was a groundbreaking attraction where groups of 40 people could virtually travel to the Moon of Endor and more in a galaxy far, far away. The popular ride was later opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios) and Tokyo Disneyland in 1989, and at Disneyland Paris in 1992.

In 2011, the attraction was completely overhauled to add multiple storylines that would be put together at random. Then as new movies like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker debuted, the ride offered more than 100 different storyline combinations.

When Star Wars : Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019, Star Tours got another sequence that took riders to Batuu, the planet that Galaxy’s Edge is themed around.

Best High-Yield Savings Accounts Of 2024

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024.

These updates are part of the overall appeal to Star Tours for many. The fact that you can ride multiple times over your vacation to the theme parks and never get the same story combination makes for great re-rideability.

Star Wars Season of the Force

For Star Wars fans going to the Disneyland Resort to ride Star Tours, from April 5 through June 2, you can also experience Season of the Force. This Disneyland-specific activation will bring even more Star Wars experiences to the park.

One of the biggest ways to celebrate Season of the Force is to watch Fire of the Rising Moons inside Galaxy’s Edge. This special event only happens on nights when Disneyland Park has fireworks at night at the front of the park.

Galaxy’s Edge will be an alternative viewing spot to the traditional viewing areas around Main Street, U.S.A., complete with a Star Wars -themed score from various John Williams pieces. The show is best viewed from Black Spire Spaceport, the TIE Echelon docking platform, and the speeder garage.

Another Star Wars -themed attraction is returning to Tomorrowland, Hyperspace Mountain, a galactic-themed overlay of the fan-favorite ride.

On select nights from April 16 through May 9, Star Wars Nite will take place. This separately ticketed event at Disneyland Park includes themed food and beverage options, a fan costume parade, character meet and greets, and more.

Scariest Rides at Disneyland

Guardians of the galaxy mission: breakout.

Exterior of Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout

Okay, let’s start with what I consider to be the scariest ride at Disneyland: Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout.

When it comes to rides, I think people fall into two categories: people who like drops and people who hate them. I am someone who hates them, so I won’t touch this ride with a 10-foot pole.

If you’ve been to Disney World, then this is very similar to Tower of Terror. In fact, it used to be a Tower of Terror ride until it was rethemed for the Guardians of the Galaxy.

In this ride you’ll join Rocket as he rescues the rest of the Guardians from the Collector. The actual theming and story of the ride is more fun than scary, but the seemingly random free-fall drops on this one have it at the top of my scariest rides in Disneyland list.

Also note that during the fall and Halloween celebrations at Disneyland, this ride transforms to Monsters After Dark in the afternoons and evenings. This is an even scarier version of the ride, with more intense show elements.

Location: Disney’s California Adventure Park Scary elements: Free-fall drops, intense action scenes Height requirement: 40 inches

Incredicoaster

The Indredicoaster is such a fun coaster and it’s the only roller coaster in Disneyland with an inversion .

This roller coaster is themed after the Incredibles, as the family has to chase Jack Jack and catch him before he causes too much destruction. It starts off with a quick launch uphill that goes from 0 to 55 mph in four seconds (as Dash “runs” next to you over the water).

Honestly, if you like coasters, you’ll probably find this one totally fine. There aren’t many intense drops and it’s mostly just fun. But it goes on our scariest ride list because it is Disneyland’s most intense coaster and the upside-down loop may be too much for some people.

Location: Disney’s California Adventure Park Scary elements: Fast launch, upside-down loop, drops Height requirement: 48 inches

Pixar Pal-A-Round (Swinging)

Cars on the Pixar Pal-A-Round

The Pixar Pal-A-Round is the large Ferris wheel at California Adventure’s Pixar Pier. (In previous versions of the park it has been called Mickey’s Fun Wheel and Sun Wheel.)

And one version of this ride is not scary at all (unless you’re afraid of heights). It’s just a traditional Ferris wheel in an enclosed gondola that offers amazing views of the park.

BUT there is also a swinging version, which is truly terrifying. Here, the cars are on a track, and as the wheel turns, you will drop and swing to different parts of the wheel , all carried by gravity. One of the things that makes this so scary is there is no predictability.

Lots of people call this the “Death Wheel” because of how scary it is. And you’ll here people screaming their lungs out as their gondolas drop.

Which is why I always choose the non-swinging version of this ride.

Location: Disney’s California Adventure Park Scary elements: Unpredictable drops and swinging Height requirement: Any height (which seems strange to me?)

Space Mountain

While I am not at all a fan of Space Mountain at Disney World, I actually love it at Disneyland!

Space Mountain is an indoor coaster that is very very dark . It’s fast and fun, but there aren’t a lot of big scary drops, which is nice. I also like that unlike at Disney World (which has 1 person rows), Disneyland’s Space Mountain cars fit two people to a row, which means if you have a kiddo who is a little nervous, they can ride next to you.

It’s also A LOT smoother than Disney World’s version. SO while this is still one of the scarier rides at Disneyland (I mean, it’s a roller coaster in the dark), I generally think it is more fun than it is scary, at least if you like coasters.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Fast coaster, some drops, darkness Height requirement: 40 inches

Grizzly River Run

Grizzly River Run is a whitewater adventure, and it really is so fun! But it’s also scary for a couple reasons. First of all, you never know who is going to get wet . The raft is a round boat where passengers face each other, and it spins around unpredictably as you go. So you never know who is going to end up getting pushed under a waterfall or splashed in a drop.

And this is the other reason this ride is on the scariest rides at Disneyland list: the drops. The drops vary in height, but the biggest one at the end is a 20-foot drop . And what makes this scarier is that sometimes you go down it while spinning. (Like really, I just closed my eyes and screamed. But it was so fun!)

Location: Disney’s California Adventure Scary elements: Drops, spinning, unpredictably getting soaked Height requirement: 42 inches

Indiana Jones Adventure

Entrance to Indiana Jones Adventure

This is my absolute favorite ride at Disneyland! It’s a intense adventure ride, where you ride in a Jeep-like vehicle through the temple with Indiana Jones. It’s bouncy and fast and just an absolute blast.

But of course, there are also scary elements like the speed, a giant snake, spiders on the wall, a wobbly bridge , and all kinds of other danger elements. Oh, and there’s that whole boulder-that-threatens-to-smash-you thing.

One thing that I think is interesting about this ride is that there can be different ride speeds. I haven’t seen this confirmed by Disney, but lots of people have noticed that this ride can run fast or slow. I’ve been on it and it’s been super fast, and I’ve been on it when it’s been a little slower. (And no, it wasn’t based on my seat because I rode it in the same seat on the same day and got two different speeds.)

All that to say, the faster the better in my opinion. But if you have kiddos who are scared of fast and dark rides, this might be one to skip with them.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Darkness, speed, scary situations, snakes and spiders Height requirement: 46 inches

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Storm Trooper Room in Star Wars Rise of the Resistance

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is SUCH an amazing ride and it truly makes you feel like you are immersed in a Star Wars movie.

It really puts you in the middle of the story, as you board a transport ship and are captured by the First Order . Then, you are led to a holding cell, where the Resistance comes to rescue you and you get on droid driven cars to find a way to escape.

This is a trackless ride, and each car will have a slightly different experience and perspective on the ride. And while it’s fast and intense, it’s super smooth.

Of course, the scare factor can be pretty big here, especially for younger kids. After all, Kylo Ren is looking for you, Storm Troopers are shooting at you , and there is a small drop at the end when you escape via an escape pod (it’s not too intense, but it may surprise you).

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Intense situations, the “bad guys” being after you, small drop, speed Height requirement: 40 inches

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Train

If you have a kiddo who has graduated from smaller roller coasters like Chip and Dale’s Gadget Coaster, then Big Thunder Mountain might be the next step up for them.

This is a fast and fun coaster with some twists and turns , but the drops aren’t too intense and of course there aren’t any inversions.

The show elements can be a bit scary on this one though, so know your kid. The uphill sections have you go through what can seem like dangerous situations (like a mine about to be blown up by dynamite or a noisy bat cave). But mostly this roller coaster is just fast and fun.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Speed, drops, intense show elements Height requirement: 40 inches

Matterhorn Bobsleds

Exterior of Matterhorn Bobsleds

Ok yes, this is a coaster. And yes there is some darkness and a truly scary looking yeti. But honestly the scariest thing about this ride may be what it will do to your back.

The Matterhorn Bobsleds are an opening day attraction for Disneyland, so it’s an old-school roller coaster without a lot of frills. The storyline is that you are bobsledding down the mountain, and there are actually two different tracks for this one that have slightly different experiences.

There aren’t a ton of drops (and the ones that it does have are small). But there are some scary moments with the yeti.

But because this is such an old coaster, it’s not exactly…smooth. Plus, the cars can be a little hard to get into. This one will bounce you around a good amount , and if you have any kind of back problem, I’d recommend skipping it.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Darkness, scary yeti Height requirement: 42 inches

Goofy’s Sky School

Goofy’s Sky School is a wild mouse roller coaster with a storyline that has Goofy teaching you how to fly….and not very well.

The ride has single cars (no trains) and the turns don’t have a bank. So as you go around each twist high up in the sky, you kind of get the sense that you are about the fling off the edge . That’s what makes it the scary, but there are two mild drops as well .

It’s not too intense though, and this may be a good coaster for kids that aren’t ready for big drops or inversions.

Location: Disney’s California Adventure Park Scary elements: Intense turns, mild drops Height requirement: 42 inches

Pirates of the Caribbean

Inside Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean is a classic Disneyland attraction. But young kids might find it slightly scary. There are small drops, loud noises, and pirates that could be frightening .

If you’ve been on it at Disney World but not Disneyland, you may be surprised to learn that this ride is pretty different from the version across the country. Disneyland’s Pirates has two drops, while Disney World just has one. Disneyland’s version is also significantly longer, with a float through the bayou before you see the pirates and more scenes.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Darkness, simulated cannon dire, drops, pirates Height requirement: Any height

Pinocchio’s Daring Journey

Exterior of Pinocchio's Daring Journey

Pinocchio’s Daring Journey is a slow dark ride in Fantasyland. So on paper, you might not think it should be scary. But to me, what puts it on our scariest rides list is just how dark and creepy it is .

While most of Disneyland’s dark rides have a magic and almost joyful element to them, Pinocchio seems almost disturbing in its theming. Sure, at the end the Blue Fairy comes and it’s all happy. But most of the ride has you following Pinocchio through his misadventures to Pleasure Island, being held prisoner, and his run in with the whale. And even with the happy ending, it’s hard to get all the creepiness out of her your head.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Creepy scenes, darkness Height requirement: Any height

Haunted Mansion

Disneyland Haunted Mansion Exterior

Haunted Mansion is a slow, dark ride through a haunted house. And while yes, there are some scary elements here, this is a Disney-fied haunted house . Nothing is going to jump out at you or truly frighten you. Honestly, the pre-show in the Stretching Room is the scariest thing about Haunted Mansion.

This ride is kind of broken up into two halves. For the first half, you ride through the haunted house and see all the ghosts assembling. There are creepy elements here (like the piano playing itself or the casket lid that raises), but it’s nothing too intense.

Then, for the second half, you enter the graveyard where the music turns a bit more cheerful as all the ghosts are basically gathering for a ghost party. It’s still dark, but it has a bit more of a lighthearted feel as the ghosts sing to you.

Most kids should be able to handle this one, but if you have a kid who is specially afraid of ghosts, it might be one to skip.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Ghosts, creepy theming, darkness Height requirement: Any height

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is another Disneyland classic. It also used to be at Disney World, but was replaced by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. So I’m so glad we can still ride it at Disneyland!

Based off Mr. Toad from Wind in the Willows (a great book by the way!) and the Disney film adaptation, this dark slow ride follows Mr. Toad’s adventures. He get obsessed with fast cars and finds himself in trouble. To be honest, the storyline here is kind of wild. He goes to the bar, goes to court for what we presume is drunk driving and a car accident, and then ends up in hell?

Most of this will go over kids’ heads, and none of it is super scary (although there are some loud noises). And the hell scene, while outlandish for adults, could be scary for kids.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Darkness, creepy scenes Height requirement: Any height

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin is based on the Who Framed Roger Rabbit? You join Roger Rabbit in a taxi to try to catch some conniving weasels.

This isn’t too scary of a ride, but there is A LOT going on in this ride, so it can definitely feel overstimulating. There are some loud noises, lots too look at, and to top it all off your car spins . Theoretically you control the spinning, but it sometimes doesn’t feel like it because it can be hard to control.

Location: Disneyland Park Scary elements: Darkness, loud noises, spinning Height requirement: Any height

What about Splash Mountain?

If Splash Mountain was still open, it would definitely be on our scariest rides at Disneyland list! But, Splash Mountain has permanently closed to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, opening in 2024.

Once Tiana’s new ride is open, I’m sure it will still make the list though, because it is using the same track as Splash Mountain and therefore will still have that same terrifying drop at the end.

Other Possible Scary Rides at Disneyland

While the rides here don’t make our scariest list, here are some elements in other rides you might want to be aware of if you have kids who are particularly sensitive to being afraid. (Or adults who may get motion sick on certain rides.)

Chip and Dale's Gadget Coaster

  • Alice in Wonderland — Darkness
  • Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters — Darkness, laser gun noises
  • Finding New Submarine Voyages — Tight, enclosed spaces
  • Chip and Dale’s Gadget Coaster — Small drops
  • Mad Tea Party — Spinning
  • Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh — Darkness
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — Motion simulation, intense show elements
  • Peter Pan’s Flight — Darkness
  • Snow White’s Enchanted Wish — Darkness
  • Star Tours — Motion simulation, intense show elements

Disney’s California Adventure

  • Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters — Spinning
  • Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree — Spinning
  • Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue — Darkness
  • Radiator Springs Racers — Darkness, ends with a fast car race
  • Soarin’ — Motion simulation, drop sensations
  • WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure — Spiderbots (spider robots), intense super hero situations

Tips for Riding the Scariest Rides at Disneyland

Want to ride some of these scary rides, but need some help? Here are some tips to make them a little less scary!

  • Watch videos before you go. YouTube is full of ride POVs (point-of-views) so you’ll know what to expect.
  • Sit at the front of roller coasters. The front of coasters tend to be less intense.
  • Look around you. If you feel yourself getting too sucked into a ride, try to look around at other elements of the ride or get really familiar with the ride vehicle you’re in.
  • Close your eyes. If all else fails, close your eyes.
  • Skip the Haunted Mansion Stretching Room. The pre-show of Haunted Mansion is maybe scarier than the ride itself, so if you have kids who might be afraid you can ask a cast member if you can skip it.

Disney: Star Tours rolls out fresh scenes, new characters

U pdates have been installed at the Star Tours attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and some of the new scenes and faces may have been seen in your living room.

Characters from Disney+ streaming series now appear in the simulator ride, which shuffles through multiple scenarios to create a multitude of story options. “The Mandalorian,” “Andor” and “Ahsoka” series are now in the mix.

Visitors may see Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor or Din Djarin with Grogu, the character fans sometimes refer to as “baby Yoda.”

“There’s one new scene with purrgil on the planet of Seatos, which everyone loves – the space whales, as they call them,” said Clint Gamache, owner of ThrillGeek, a theme park website.

“I think it was the right addition. Not everybody’s going to get it … but the ‘Star Wars’ fan base, I think, will enjoy it for what it is,” he said.

Star Tours was Disney’s first “Star Wars” attraction, predating the company’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. The motion simulator opened at Disney World in 1989. It was upgraded in 2011 with characters such as Princess Leia and Chewbacca and destinations such as Hoth and Tatooine.

Concerned about misuse, Disney World changes disability passes

There also have been additions to go with “The Rise of Skywalker” and other films, plus Batuu, the planet from the park’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which opened in 2019. The contents of the attraction’s video are not randomly selected, but there’s also no way of knowing which story (or planets) you’re walking into.

There are Star Tours attractions at Disneyland in California, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.

“Star Tours is a classic attraction, so it’s great to see Disney continuing to update it with new additions for everybody to enjoy,” Gamache said.

How Scary Is Star Tours At Disney World?

Avatar photo

Disney World not only offers guests a whole new world but also sends them off to explore a whole new universe.

Themed attractions like Star Tours – The Adventures Continue , based on the Star Wars franchise, throw parkgoers into hyperspace on an intense interstellar crusade.

Disney World’s Star Tours ride is not meant to be scary. However, small children or riders with motion sensitivity might find it moderately unsettling. The attraction’s quick tilts, jolts, and drops could cause queasiness, and confrontations between the audience and Star Wars antagonists may be startling for some guests.

This article explains where Star Tours is located in Disney World, what to expect from the experience, and who can board the ride.

Elements that may make the ride frightening for certain guests will also be highlighted along the way.

  • Where Is Star Tours Located at Disney World?

Giant AT-AT Walker at the entrance of Star Tours in Disney World.

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue can be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the Echo Lake area.

This intergalactic 3D space odyssey is a separate attraction from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge , located past the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular , in between the Backlot Express and Grand Avenue.

For a virtual map of Hollywood Studios, including turn-by-turn directions, parkgoers should download the My Disney Experience app .

  • What Is the Theme of Disney’s Star Tours?

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is a 3D flight simulator centered around key characters and epic moments from Star Wars films and television franchises, including the most recent movie, The Last Jedi .

While the cosmic theme calls for dark settings, flashing lights, and brief battles, the experience is designed to be more exciting than frightening.

Disney’s Imagineers carefully crafted the ride to present scenes based on various Star Wars installments.

What makes this layout unique is its constant evolution – as new Star Wars shows and movies are released, Imagineers add more scenes.

With over 60 interchangeable storylines, the attraction differs each time it’s ridden.

Each storyline sends riders on an exciting expedition, allowing them to experience a new adventure every time they visit.

What to Expect When Riding Star Tours at Disney World

C-3PO standing in Star Tours at Disney World.

Even though Star Tours isn’t purposefully designed to be frightening, some elements of the attraction could startle certain riders.

The ride follows C-3PO as he is accidentally trapped in a Starspeeder’s cockpit while doing maintenance.

Riders witness this mishap just before they receive their pre-flight instructions and are ushered into the flight simulator.

Before takeoff, guests are met by villains like Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, or Kylo Ren, who intend to abduct a rebel spy aboard the Starspeeder.

The rebel’s photo is revealed to riders as someone in the audience.

To protect the spy, the Starspeeder jets off, and the random sequencing begins.

Because C-3PO is the makeshift pilot, the ride is especially bumpy.

However, the movement of the simulator, along with the 3D effects, accounts for all the motion that parkgoers experience throughout the ride.

  • How Intense Are Star Tours’ Ride Elements?

Since Star Tours operates on motion simulation and is not a roller coaster, its speed is moderate.

The ride does have some small drops, but they are short-lived and not intense.

Even though speed is unlikely to be an issue on Star Tours, some riders may feel nauseous as the simulator tilts, shakes, and jolts in time with cues from the 3D clips.

Younger riders may also feel uneasy during the ride, especially if they are afraid of the dark or any of the Star Wars antagonists.

Thankfully, any intense moments of the ride are quickly followed by uplifting feats.

The visuals also play a significant role in the intensity of the ride’s motion.

For temporary relief, riders can close their eyes during unsettling sequences.

  • Who Can Ride Star Tours at Disney World?

According to Disney, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is intended for kids, tweens, teens, and adults.

All riders must be at least 40” (102 cm) tall to board the spacecraft, and children under seven (7) must be supervised at all times and accompanied by someone at least 14 years old.

Due to turbulence, sharp turns, and unexpected drops, guests should be in good health before riding.

Visitors with high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, and motion sickness are advised against riding, as are pregnant parkgoers.

  • What Is Seating Like on Disney’s Star Tours?

An empty dark movie theater room.

The flight simulator for Star Tours is a dark theater room with padded seats that can hold up to 40 guests.

Each row can accommodate 8-10 visitors, secured in their seats by a lap belt.

The ride tends to be the most intense in the back; therefore, anxious guests should sit closer to the front or in the middle.

  • When Can You Ride Star Tours at Disney World?

Star Tours generally operates during regular theme park hours at Hollywood Studios, but guests can find the ride schedule on Disney World’s official website or the My Disney app.

Visitors staying at a Disney Resort hotel can access Star Tours earlier by taking advantage of Early Theme Park Entry , which allows them to enter the park before the gates open to the general public.

Star Tours is also a participating ride in Disney’s Genie+ Service , offering Lightning Lane access and a shorter wait time.

Guests can check wait times and access virtual queues (if available) through the My Disney Experience app.

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is a moderately thrilling ride that the whole family will enjoy.

However, younger guests or riders with motion sensitivity might find some ride elements uncomfortable or startling.

Guests uneasy about darkness, turbulence, or battles between infamous Star Wars antagonists might want to sit this one out.

Otherwise, this ever-changing and constantly improving attraction is perfect for Star Wars fans tall enough to ride.

Planning a trip to Disneyland in the coming weeks? You might want to double-check the schedule to make sure your favorite attraction isn’t out of commission.

Four Disneyland attractions, including the Incredicoaster and Matterhorn Bobsleds, will be closing down in the coming weeks as part of the theme park’s regular maintenance.

The temporary closures are coming as spring break crowds have started to dwindle at the Anaheim resort, and most of the attractions are expected to reopen before the summer crowds begin to arrive, a spokesperson for the theme park said.

The Incredicoaster is expected to be closed from now to April 18 as part of the park’s regular refurbishment schedule. The Matterhorn Bobsleds are set to close on Mondays through Thursdays, starting April 15 and ending May 2.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh will also be closing May 1 as part of the larger closure associated with work on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a new attraction that is set to open later this year.

It’s not clear when The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh will reopen.

Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln will be closed April 16, and no reopening date has been announced.

The four attractions will be joined on the inactive list by the popular Haunted Mansion attraction, which was shut down earlier this year to add a new shop and improve wheelchair access.

Disneyland’s rides and attractions undergo regular maintenance and upgrades, and the park recommends that visitors check the theme park’s calendar for planned closures.

Disneyland | disneyland closes 4 attractions during busy spring season, the attraction closures coincide with the season of the force and pixar fest seasonal events just as the spring break crowds begin to dwindle..

is star tours disneyland scary

Disneyland will close four attractions for seasonal refurbishments during the Season of the Force and Pixar Fest events just as the Spring Break crowds begin to dwindle at the Anaheim theme parks.

The Incredicoaster, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln will temporarily close in mid-April or early May as part of Disneyland’s standard refurbishment schedule.

ALSO SEE: See early Disneyland ride concepts that never got built

The four new attraction closures join the Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and “Fantasmic” that were already shuttered for refurbishment.

The timing of the attraction closures coincide with the two-month-long Star Wars event that started Friday, April 5 at Disneyland and Pixar Fest that kicks off April 26 at Disney California Adventure.

The Incredicoaster in Pixar Pier will go down Monday, April 8 through April 18 for a seasonal refurbishment.

ALSO SEE: First look at Avatar themed land proposed for Disneyland

The Matterhorn Bobsleds roller coaster will close three times on slower weekdays — April 15-18, April 22-25 and April 29 to May 2.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh will close on May 1 as part of the larger closure of Critter Country while work continues on the transformation of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. A reopening date has not yet been set for the Pooh dark ride.

Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln will close on April 16 with no reopening date set. The venerable Disneyland Audio-Animatronics show will remain closed at least through May 20.

ALSO SEE: Disneyland to convert Autopia cars from gas to electric

The Haunted Mansion closed in January for an extended renovation of the outdoor queue area that will add a new accessibility elevator for wheelchair users exiting the ride and a new retail shop at the attraction’s exit. Disneyland has not announced a reopening date for the popular haunted house dark ride.

The latest temporary closures don’t include Splash Mountain — which is undergoing a yearlong conversion into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure . The Critter Country log flume ride is scheduled to reopen with a new “Princess and the Frog” theme in fall or winter 2024.

“ Fantasmic ” will return on May 24 after a yearlong hiatus following an inferno that engulfed the show’s audio-animatronic fire-breathing dragon.

Also not on the temporarily “out of order” list are several attractions that never returned following the yearlong pandemic closure that shuttered Disneyland and DCA.

Disneyland’s Star Wars Launch Bay and DCA’s Blue Sky Cellar are being used for Imagination Campus — an educational travel workshop that teaches students about the arts and sciences used in Disney theme parks.

The Magic Eye Theater in Tomorrowland remains dark with no upcoming show in the works.

DCA’s Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land briefly returned for a two-month run of “ Rogers: The Musical ” before closing again with nothing planned for the 2,000-seat Broadway caliber venue.

The Fantasyland Theatre no longer has regularly scheduled shows after the “ Tale of the Lion King ” ended its run in January.
