San salvador sailing adventure package.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is the only attraction to offer this popular day sail adventure experience aboard San Salvador, a replica of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s ship that arrived at the port we now call San Diego on September 28, 1542. These 4-hour Sailing Adventures are for people who love history and sailing. Few 21st Century people have sailed aboard a 16th Century galleon. You can become one of them. No sailing experience is required. An invaluable addition to your experience is the onboard historian who will explain how the San Salvador was sailed, navigated and defended.

In addition to learning about the exploration of the West Coast, guests can assist the sail crew, enhancing their back-in-time experience.

Your tickets include general admission to visit the Museum fleet of ships and exhibits before your sail!

Winter Whale & Dolphin Watching Cruises

Enjoy the best sightseeing on the San Diego Bay—with a professionally narrated tour of San Diego's whale-watching hot spots by naturalists from the Natural History Museum.

Join us on the water as we search for Gray Whales (winter), Blue Whales (Summer), Minke Whales, Fin Whales, dolphins, sea lions, marine birds and much more!

As we cruise, we’ll see up-close views of the bay's wildlife as well as iconic landmarks from a new perspective. Onboard, our staff will provide live narration and details about the aquatic life and landmarks we pass for a truly memorable experience.

If some type of whale is not sighted on your whale watching cruise, you will receive a pass good to return for a Whale Watching Cruise or Harbor Cruise.

December 16 - April 14 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday only)

Board: 9:15am Cruise: 9:30am - 1:00pm

Whiskey Tasting in a Speakeasy

In barleymash's secret downstairs speakeasy, Ginger's, guests will be greeted with a welcome cocktail followed by a presentation from Wild Turkey's distinguished Ambassador Benny Hurwitz. Benny will guide the tastebuds through the Wilderness Trail's Kentucky Wheated Straight Bourbon, High-Rye Bourbon, and Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. To follow is a bonus taste of the extremely rare Master's Keep Voyage. Attendees will enjoy a night of intimate ambiance, delicious sips and see the sophisticated side of America's favorite spirit.

Californian Tall Ship Adventure.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego invites you to join us for Tall Ship adventure sailing! This is a four-hour adventure history sail aboard the schooner Californian. The Californian is a replica of a gold rush era revenue cutter and the Official Tall Ship of the State of California.

Arrive early to take in your general admission visit to the entire fleet and exhibits, then set sail!

Join the crew in sailing a traditionally rigged tall ship! Passengers will be invited to haul a line, man the helm and watch the crew as they scamper up and down the rigging to set and furl the sails. Listen as the Californian’s crew relates the history of sailing and exploration in San Diego, tales of whaling and sea otter trade, local sea battles, the art of ship’s gunnery, life at sea and more.

Ghostly Frequently Ask Questions (FAQ)

Considering taking a look at some of these if you are serious about the tour.

How Much Walking?

Bathrooms drinking/food/smoking.

Bathrooms Perhaps the scariest part of the tour is there are no bathrooms! Please use the restroom in the Hard Rock or Starbucks before the tour. We move at a brisk pace and if we want to cover all the locations properly bathrooms are out.

If you have a medical need please alert us to that immediately after booking so we can make arrangements.

Drinking/Food/Smoking? Please don't bring food or drink on the tour . If you stop during the tour to get a drink or food you will be left behind , we have to keep moving to fit it all in.

Please don't smoke or vape during the tour as courtesy to others. Deep graitude.

Do things Happen / Is it Scary?

I would call it more spooky than scary . We do not use jump scares, though the environments themselves do have a very strong vibe most can sense. Some people do come out of it with a scare(s), it just depends on your personal tolerance level. Creepy is another good word for parts of the experience.

This Gaslamp Tour is a bit Risqué San Diego's Gaslamp/Downtown area you'll tour once was filled with brothels. As such prostitution is a part of the stories . Now this may go over your kids head, so that a consideration, still it is a risk. With that said we won't stop you from bringing your child just, it's really up to you .

Scary? We call the tour spooky . With that said, we will be talking about death, murder and all those dark events, that is the subject matter and it can be disturbing as well as graphic . The place themselves have an energy that can have an affect on children that watching a movie does not. So again at your own risk .

Should I Tip?

We meet at the Gaslamp Quarter Arch, please make sure to be there 20 minutes before departure time . Enjoy the tour and happy hauntings!

Waitlist We do not have a waitlist . If you are trying to book a full tour, your best bet is to show up at the Gaslamp Quarter Arch at least 20 min prior to the tour departure. If there has been a cancellation, we will know by the time the tour starts and will get you in. Cancellations are extremely rare; only a couple a month, so this is a long shot option. Don't miss out - order now !

Your credit card is not charged until we hit the 8 minimum.

If the tour already has 8 people you will get the email immediately, and your card will be charged immediately.

Please give us a legit working phone number you'll have on you for calls/texts . You will not be charged. Your credit card is not processed if the tour does not meet the 8 person minimum.

Group Discounts If you have a group of more than 8 individuals, please call our reservation line to discuss potential discounted options – 619.255.6170 .

Parking? Arrival?

Consider using the SpotHero app to reserve a parking spot ahead of time and at the best price. We use it and get great results it does make parking easier.

There are tons of parking garages and lots around, most do charge though. If you can Lyft, Cab or Uber you might consider that too.

Arrival Our tour meets and leaves from the Gaslamp Quarter Arch near Starbucks | 209 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

Please make sure to be at the arch 20 minutes before your tour embarks. When you get there you will see our ghost host dressed in Victorian attire or in black with a bell, they will be pretty obvious. Please introduce yourself to the host, have the ticket buyer give their name, and you are good to go. There is no ticket or phone app needed just your name. We go by a roster.

There are rare cases where the earlier tour may have gone over. In that case please be patient, they will materialize.

Use the bathroom first! There are no bathrooms on the tour. You can find one at Starbucks or Hard Rock.

If we are still under stupid COVID, please wear a mask and make sure to social distance 6 feet from anyone you don't know. We deeply appreciate that.

Once confirmed with the host hang out until the tour starts. If everyone shows up a bit early we may be able to leave early and fit in some additional content.

It's going to be disturbing and we will see you soon...

Utopian Soviet Buildings

Utopian Soviet Buildings

  • The Palace of the Soviets instead of the Cathedral of the Christ the Saviour. It could have become one of the highest buildings in the world with a 100 m Lenin statue on the top.
  • The eighth Stalinist skyscraper instead of the Zaryadye Park. It was supposed to be the tallest of all the Sisters.
  • The Narkomtiazhprom (the People’s Commissariat of Heavy Industry) building instead of the GUM. How would the Red Square look like with three skyscrapers or gigantic staircases going all the way up to the 16th floor?
  • The Palace of Labour instead of the Moskva Hotel. What was it, kind of a fantastic beast lying on the square or an ultimate Constructivist manifesto?
  • The alternative Lenin’s Mausoleum, the “Leningradskaya Pravda” buildings and many others.

Testimonial

"A very enjoybale day in Moscow. We had a very nice and knowledgeable guide Anastasia.(Nastia) She was very passionate about the City and we learnt so much in our brief four hours walk with her! Certainly this walking tour added a lot of value to our Moscow Holiday. A great idea to educate visitors about Russia and Moscow. The group was intimate enough to ask questions and stop for snacks etc..we thoriughly enjoyed it and would highly reccomend it.Carry on doing a great job!"

"I really enjoyed the tour, it was a great experience, very informative and fun. I will definitely tell everybody about that tour, keep it it is a fantastic idea!"

"Sorry I do not remember the names :( ... They were very talkative and very into everything. I think they both really love the city, and they made me feel like this to. They knew much about History, which was very informative! Great guides!!!"

"We partook of the fantastic Petersburg Free Tour. Due to our timing during the low season (shockingly not everyone is flocking to Moscow while the average temperature is 15F), it ended up being just us and Sonia, the afore-mentioned super-guide. She quickly ascertained the limited scope of our wanderings.."

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?

The most beautiful of all the world's cities - lady Moscow invites you out on a date!

Alex Murdaugh trial: Tour of historic Colleton County Courthouse a true crime destination

W ant to take a tour of the Colleton County Courthouse, where disgraced father and lawyer Alex Murdaugh was convicted of two grisly murders and condemned to spend the rest of his natural life behind bars ?

Want to sit where Alex sat in front of TV cameras, or perhaps take presiding Judge Clifton's Newman 's spot on the bench and grip the gavel?

Feel the need to stretch out and nap in Murdaugh's holding cell?

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Or visit the jury's chambers, where his fate was decided in less than three hours?

It can all be arranged, and it won't cost you any more than your time and gas money.

The Colleton County Clerk of Court's Office is now offering free tours of the Colleton County Courthouse at 101 Hampton Street, Walterboro, the historic South Carolina courthouse that hosted the six-week trial of convicted murderer and accused fraudster Murdaugh.

The marathon trial of Murdaugh, who is facing 104 other criminal charges and a dozen lawsuits after a decade-long, multi-county financial and drug-related crime spree that ended in the bloodshed of his own wife and son, brought international press coverage.

The trial attracted journalists, authors, documentary producers, class field trips and curious gawkers from around the world. During the dramatic, often intense legal proceedings, which were followed on national TV and other media by mobs of almost cult-like true crime fans, stars emerged and certain key players, such as Judge Newman, prosecutor Creighton Waters, and star witness Dr. Kenny Kinsey, have emerged as folk heroes.

Even after the trial ended March 3, tourists, some wearing "Bring the Jury" hats in honor of Newman, have journeyed to this mecca of southern malfeasance and malpractice, to snap photos outside the historic S.C. Lowcountry courthouse (built 1822) , so Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill decided to invite them in and give them a tour.

The trial really put Walterboro on the "true crime map," said Hill.

"As early as the Monday after the trial, people were outside taking pictures, so we decided to offer them a tour," she added. "People have really found out where Walterboro, South Carolina is."

During the tours visitors can see more than just the courtroom. They can visit the judge's chambers, jury room, the holding cell where Alex waited during breaks of the trial. They can enter the sally port where the Colleton County Detention Center delivered a shackled Murdaugh for court every day, then walk through the gated area into the cells. Guests can sit where Murdaugh sat, take the witness stand, plop down in the jury section, or even take Judge Newman's seat and bang the gavel.

"They like to see where his granddaddy Buster's picture is on the wall," said Hill. "They like to sit where Alex sat, and we have even had someone (a middle-aged woman) who stretched out and laid down on the defense table where Alex and his lawyers sat."

The tours are conducted by bailiffs and security personnel who know the courthouse inside and out, and along the way Hill, who often entertained the crowd with quips and brief historical tidbits during breaks of the trial, tries to greet each group.

The courthouse currently sees about ten groups per day. The staff start keeping a visitor's log on March 9, and since then there have been roughly 220 visitors, from California to Rhode Island, and even from out of the country.

No reservations are required ― visitors can just show up at the door during normal business hours ― but visitors are welcome to email in advance Hill at [email protected] . Courthouse security rules still apply.

The tours are free, but any donations are welcome. Because the courthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places, structural elements such as windows have to be maintained to meet certain standards, and any donation proceeds will be used for the proper historic upkeep of the building.

Hampton County Guardian Editor Michael DeWitt, the Greenville News and USA TODAY Network will continue to follow the ongoing criminal and civil cases surrounding the Murdaugh crime saga. Follow DeWitt on Twitter at @mmdewittjr and support his local and national journalism with a digital subscription.

Posing in the Colleton County Courthouse main courtroom are, from left, Mark and Beth Johnson from Helendale, California, and Ken Watson and Ronda Peay from Long, S.C. The couples say they are "huge fans" of Judge Clifton Newman and wore their "Bring the Jury" hats.

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.
