From the dam, visitors can see picturesque views of Lake Mead and the Colorado River.
Many millions see the Hoover Dam from their helicopter or airplane on their way to the Grand Canyon.
This article explains everything you must know before about Hoover Dam helicopter tours.

Best hoover dam helicopter tours, what to expect, departure point, timings of the tour, tour exclusions, restrictions strictly followed, hoover dam visit: things to know, best hoover dam tours, cancellation policy.
Hoover Dam is about 56 kms (35 miles) southeast of Las Vegas, and by road, it takes about 40 minutes to reach.
We recommend one of the two ways of exploring the dam –
Option 1: Book a helicopter tour to Grand Canyon West, and on the way, explore Hoover Dam from above. The helicopter flight from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon lasts around 40 minutes, and you can see views of the Hoover Dam for four to five minutes. The best part is that you get to see the Dam’s aerial views twice – while going to the Canyon and coming back to Vegas.
Option 2: Book a helicopter or an airplane tour that includes a visit to Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. On such trips, you get an opportunity to get inside the Dam and explore.
We share both the types of heli tours around Hoover Dam –

This four-hour tour of Grand Canyon West Rim starts with a hotel pickup and a drive to the heliport in Boulder City.

As part of this tour, you will fly 30 miles (48 kilometers) over the Grand Canyon – the longest available flight above and below the Rim.
Once you have explored the majestic and yet rugged beauty of the Grand Canyon, you fly back to Boulder City.
And on the way, see Hoover Dam from above once again.

Best Hoover Dam Tours from Las Vegas
Getty Images
If you're planning what to see and do in Las Vegas , you may be considering a day trip to the Hoover Dam – the National Historic Landmark that diverts water from the Colorado River to various corners of the southwestern United States. Authorized by President Calvin Coolidge in 1928, the dam took around five years to build. At the time of its completion in 1935, dam workers used 6.6 million tons of concrete, more than 5 million barrels of cement and 45 million pounds of steel.
Tours of the facility are available on-site and include access to the power plant and the dam's tunnels. However, independent tour companies – many of which depart from Las Vegas – also make stops at the dam. Many of the Hoover Dam tours from Las Vegas include additional experiences, such as a stop at the Las Vegas welcome sign or the Seven Magic Mountains public art installation.
Considering both traveler sentiment and expert input, U.S. News selected the best Hoover Dam tours from Las Vegas.

Hoover dam bus tour from Las Vegas reviews
My husband and I loved this tour. There was a little hiccup and the power plant of the dam was closed so we could not tour it. Instead a pit stop was added in Boulder City and that was the highlight of our trip. I absolutely loved Boulder City. The little town is so cute and very pet friendly. If we ever come back to Vegas again we are going to rent a car and spend the day in Boulder City. Honestly they should add this city to their stop. Maybe as the place to stop at and have lunch at. We still got to tour the dam and do all the stuff that’s outside of it. Overall very good tour! – Amanda ( Tour Review )
Love seeing the Hoover Dam! And learning the history! Had a great comedian and bus driver! Need something to get older folks to get up to the bridge! – Tammy ( Tour Review )

This place exceeded our expectations! The rooms were clean, but the service was great! Diane in the General Store took such good care of us and made a good experience great. The General Store prices were also very good. We will be going back and were sad to leave. Shout out also to Jeanine at the front desk. She fussed over us, making sure we had everything we needed. Awesome staff! Thanks for a great visit! ( Guest Review )

Whether you are looking to learn more about this feat of engineering or simply admire its grand views, visiting the Hoover Dam is an unforgettable experience.
History

1. Night flight , the best cheap helicopter tour over Las Vegas Strip
First, this night flight is an excellent option if you’re looking for a cheap helicopter ride in Las Vegas . Not only is it affordable, but it’ll give you a completely fresh perspective of the Vegas Strip. During the flight, you’ll see iconic attractions and resorts like the Bellagio and the LINQ Promenade from above.
Hands down, it’s the best nighttime helicopter ride in Las Vegas , especially if you want to do something special as a couple. The glittering lights, colorful attractions, and excitement make this one of the best things to do over the Las Vegas Strip .
- Price from : $119
- Duration : 10-15 minutes
- Highlights : Nighttime helicopter flight over the Strip and Downtown Las Vegas
2. Golden Eagle , an amazing helicopter tour from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon
Another popular option is this excursion , which includes a Las Vegas helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon . It’s one of the best Grand Canyon heli-tours , and a great choice if you’re short on time but still want to see this natural wonder.
This Las Vegas helicopter ride starts in the city, where you’ll take off and fly over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead . Then, you’ll make your way to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, where you’ll spot the Colorado River, Eagle Point, and Guano Point from the air.
If you don’t mind paying more, you can choose the upgrade option and fly over the Las Vegas Strip right as the nightlife is ramping up. Considering the price of a Hoover Dam helicopter tour , the upgrade is a great deal.
- Price from : $429 ($519 for upgrade)
- Duration : 3.5-4 hours
- Highlights : Helicopter flight over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Grand Canyon West and the Strip
3. Grand Celebration , the helicopter tour in Las Vegas that we took
During one of our trips, we wanted to take a special Las Vegas heli-tour , so we opted for this one that goes past the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead en route to the Grand Canyon .
We got incredible aerial views of the West Rim, then enjoyed a private landing 3,200 feet below the rim. There, we had some time to sip champagne and take in the views, which was lots of fun. I definitely recommend this private helicopter tour from Las Vegas , and if you can book the sunset departure, go for it!
- Price from : $619
- Highlights : Helicopter flight over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Grand Canyon West; canyon floor landing; optional sunset departure
4. Grand Voyager , a full-day helicopter tour from Las Vegas, Nevada
This helicopter flight is another popular Grand Canyon tour from Las Vegas that you should consider. It starts with a Las Vegas air tour over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, followed by a visit to the Grand Canyon, where you’ll board a chopper.
Like the Las Vegas helicopter ride that we took, this one includes a canyon floor landing at the West Rim. However, it stands out because it also includes a boat cruise along the Colorado River, where you can enjoy peace and quiet and striking views.
After ascending back to the rim, you’ll board a shuttle and visit famous lookouts like Guano Point and Eagle Point. Then, you’ll fly back to Sin City in the early evening.
- Price from : $579
- Duration : 7 hours
- Highlights : Airplane flight over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Grand Canyon West; helicopter ride to the canyon floor; pontoon boat ride; optional Skywalk upgrade
5. Helicopter food tour , one of the best nighttime Las Vegas helicopter tours
This foodie tour is a fun and interesting option that combines a Las Vegas helicopter ride with some incredible tastings. It starts with a guided walking tour through Downtown Las Vegas, where you’ll experience the buzz of Fremont Street and its delicious food offerings. Along the way, your guide will share all kinds of stories and facts about Sin City’s history, gastronomy, and culture.
Then, you’ll board a limo and head to the terminal for your helicopter ride over the Las Vegas Strip . During the flight, you’ll soar over famous resorts and venues like the downtown Arts District, the Bellagio Fountains, and the Luxor Pyramid. Without a doubt, this is one of the best things to do in Las Vegas at night .
- Price from : $199
- Duration : 1.5 hours
- Highlights : Walking tour of Downtown Las Vegas, food tastings, helicopter flight over the Strip
6. South Rim helicopter tour , the only Las Vegas heli tour to the South Rim
This heli-excursion is an amazing helicopter tour from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon , especially since it’s the only one to go to the South Rim. While most air tours from Sin City either stay in Vegas or go to the West Rim, this one travels over the South and North Rims, granting you unparalleled views.
You’ll depart from the city in an airplane, then fly over Las Vegas , the Mojave Desert, Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead. Once you reach Grand Canyon National Park, you’ll board a helicopter to see the Colorado River snaking its way through gorges and rock strata.
As if that weren’t enough, the last leg of the tour includes an on-the-ground Hummer excursion to popular South Rim viewpoints. This tour also includes a light lunch and hotel pick-up and drop-off, making it one of the best Las Vegas helicopter tours available.
- Price from : $849
- Duration : 9.5-10 hours
- Highlights : Airplane ride over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Colorado River; Grand Canyon helicopter tour; North and South Rims; Hummer ride to viewpoints
7. Red Rock Canyon , a romantic helicopter tour in Las Vegas, NV
If you want to visit Red Rock Canyon in a completely new way, I recommend a helicopter trip from Las Vegas , like this one . It departs from the city and ascends over the Strip and the surrounding desert before flying over to the fiery landscape of Red Rock Canyon.
You’ll be able to see the park’s scenic loop and hiking trails from above, as well as the full magnitude of its red sandstone formations and ancient geology. Best of all, the tour includes a private landing in a picturesque valley, where you’ll have a short break to enjoy the views and sip champagne.
This is a great option if you want to treat yourself and your partner to a romantic air tour. Plus, it’s a cheaper helicopter ride in Las Vegas , so you can have an incredible time without breaking the bank. And if you can, I suggest booking the sunset flight for the most magnificent views. For more options, check out our guide on the best Red Rock Canyon tours from Las Vegas .
- Price from : $239
- Duration : 2.5-3 hours
- Highlights : Helicopter flight over the Mojave Desert and Red Rock Canyon; private landing near Red Rock Canyon; champagne; optional sunset departure

My Las Vegas helicopter tour review
As you can see, there are all kinds of helicopter tours in Las Vegas , so I’m sure you’ll find an option that suits your trip and budget. Flying over Las Vegas in a sightseeing chopper is a totally unique experience that you’ll never forget, so I wholeheartedly recommend adding it to your itinerary.
During our 10-day road trip along the West Coast , we decided to take the Grand Celebration heli-tour , and it was a highlight of our trip. Not only were we able to see Sin City from above, but we also flew over the Grand Canyon’s West Rim. The aerial views of the canyon’s gorges and valleys were breathtaking, and we even got to land on the canyon floor for additional views.
We upgraded to the sunset helicopter ride over Las Vegas , and it was definitely worth it. Seeing the last bits of sunlight sparkling on the Strip was a beautiful sight and gave us a new perspective of the city. It was an exhilarating ride, and we felt safe the entire time. Our pilot was very professional and friendly, and she took the time to point out the main sights during our ride.
While there are several tour operators in the area, we love Papillon Helicopters in Las Vegas. They have over 50 years of experience, excellent rates, and an incredible safety record. Papillon is one of the most reputable Grand Canyon sightseeing companies, so keep them in mind if you’re thinking of taking a helicopter ride out of Las Vegas . You can also find more info about this company in our Papillon helicopter review .
