Abercrombie & kent launches two luxe private jet tours for wildlife enthusiasts.

The luxury travel provider introduces two new innovative itineraries on its private Boeing 757

Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent has launched two new private jet tours. The first tour, “Wildlife & Nature: Around the World by Private Jet,” will be available in the fall of 2024. The second tour, “Africa: Across a Continent by Private Jet,” will be available in 2025.

“Travelers look to A&K for the quintessential African journey, as well as intriguing destinations they may never have thought to visit,” explains Ann Epting, Senior Vice President of Private Jet & Special Interest Travel.

“Africa: Across A Continent by Private Jet is an immersive itinerary that features a brand new destination, Tunisia, home to the most well-preserved Roman sites on the continent. I’m also excited to introduce guests to Benin, where they’ll discover a village on the water often referred to as the Venice of West Africa, in addition to delivering some of our guests’ most beloved safari experiences in Rwanda, Kenya, and Botswana, camping under the stars in Morocco’s Sahara Desert and more.”

Both journeys will take place onboard Abercrombie & Kent’s chartered Boeing 757. It has been outfitted with 48 first class, lie-flat seats with amenities like iPads, noise-canceling headphones, and tailor-made Briggs & Riley amenity kits .

Each journey features a dedicated cabin crew, including an executive chef and personalized service. Every destination also has local guides and staff to make the experience seamless.

One of the main benefits of private jet journeys is the ability to reach destinations that are not easily accessible via major carriers. This saves time and allows travelers to experience as many destinations as possible.

Abercrombie & Kent, not tied to a specific hotel brand, can also curate more authentic experiences in places many people might not be able to travel to.

The Wildlife & Nature

This is a 26-day journey that begins in Hawaii and takes guests to some of the most unique wildlife-spotting destinations.

The itinerary also includes visits to Fiji, Tasmania, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Zambia, Salvador, Brazil, and the Amazon.

During the trip, guests can participate in activities such as visiting a rehabilitation center dedicated to saving the monk seal and searching for the endangered Sri Lankan leopard in Yala National Park. Accommodation will be provided at places like Jumeirah Bali, Mauna Lani, and the Chena Huts.

About Africa

For 2025, Abercrombie & Kent has added Africa: Across a Continent by Private Jet as an itinerary.

The journey takes guests on a 23-day adventure through London, Tunisia, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Botswana, and Morocco.

Travelers can experience various things throughout the journey, including the Winelands, wildlife, and the Roman ruins.

During the experience, guests can personalize the journey with cultural encounters, wellness experiences, or outdoor excursions. Accommodations throughout the trip are intended to embody the authenticity of each city and will be housed in places such as The Oberoi, one of the top-rated resorts in Marrakech, along with the Angama Mara overlooking Kenya’s Masai Mara.

See inside the luxury Boeing 757 that carries the ultra-rich on $165,000-a-person private 'air cruises' to places like Madagascar and Japan

• People are shelling out over $100,000 for Abercrombie & Kent's luxury around-the-world air cruises.

• There is clearly plenty of demand considering A&K's next tour is completely sold out.

For about the price of a typical single-family home in Mississippi, ultra-rich adventurers can spend three weeks traversing the world via private jet thanks on an Abercrombie & Kent "air cruise."

Founded in 1962 by legendary globetrotter Geoffrey Kent , the luxury travel company has a long history of creating premium experiences targeting high-paying customers. 

A&K eventually got into the private jet business with its inaugural "Royal Air Tour" in 1989, and, in 2013, it pioneered around-the-world private air tours with a 26-day trip to places like the Amazon and Samoa. The trip cost $105,000 and used a specially-modified Boeing 737.

"There are a lot of wealthy people today who have the money to travel and want to see the world," Kent told NBC News in 2013. "They are money rich and time poor. This is a great way to see as much of the world as possible in a short amount of time. And to really enjoy it."

Today, A&K's air adventures use a customized Boeing 757 fitted with 48 first class seats, each with fully lie-flat capabilities. Current tours start at $135,000.

It's a pricey trip, but it's also all-inclusive. The six-figure price tag includes hotels like the Ritz-Carlton, all of the private flights, and activities like massages, snorkeling, safaris, and private culinary lessons.

Here's what people can expect onboard A&K's glamorous 757 private plane.

A&K currently only has one bookable around-the-world tour available on its website, and the price starts at about $165,000 per person.

Departing in February 2024, the over three-week "wildlife safari" tour circumnavigates the globe starting in Portland, Oregon, and eventually makes its way westward toward Boston.

The plane will make eight stops along the full 25-day itinerary, visiting nations like Japan, Madagascar, India, and Kenya.

Because the Boeing 757 is not built for extended long-haul travel, it will need to stop for fuel in between cities, like on A&K's first leg from Portland to Japan.

This is similar to Northern Pacific Airways' plan to fly from the US mainland to Asia via Anchorage, Alaska, using a 757 narrowbody.

There are three other tours posted on the A&K website — two of which are still being crafted and the third of which is already sold out.

The latter, which departs in September 2023, is solely focused on Africa and costs about $135,000 per person, but the waitlist suggests these pricey tours are not suffering from a shortage of demand.

The six-figure price tags include fancy excursions, five-star hotels, and, of course, the exclusive private jet, which is leased from Icelandair.

The 23-year-old plane has flown for several operators before Icelandair, including American Trans Air and the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service.

According to The Points Guy, the Reykjavik-based airline takes care of all of the logistics related to the flights.

This includes route planning, staffing pilots and flight attendants , and organizing catering.

However, customers won't find any Icelandair logos outside the plane or things like branded blankets or cutlery onboard.

Similar to Donald Trump's fancy Boeing 757 private jet that boasts a giant "T" on the tail, A&K's logo is prominent.

Instead, A&K has plastered its iconic ampersand logo on the tail and its company name on every seat.

It's also hard to miss the giant "Abercrombie & Kent" name painted across the fuselage.

Each cream-colored lounger comes with typical first-class perks, including power, plenty of legroom, a large tray table, and lie-flat beds.

Guests will also find reading lights, overhead bins, and an A&K-branded toiletry kit.

The seat itself also has several different settings thanks to buttons built into the seat — even a massage function.

The 19-inch wide seats, privacy wings, and six-inch armrest provides generous space and comfort.

Meanwhile, a separate ottoman is available as a footrest and has a storage compartment underneath. It also helps the bed stretch 75 inches long.

In between each ottoman is storage for things like books, cups, and electronics.

The interior is a far cry from the 162 economy seats and 22 "saga premium" recliners Icelandiar fit onto the 757 before its glamourfication.

Narrowbody airliners rarely have lie-flat business class, though carriers like American Airlines and JetBlue Airways have introduced the cabin on Airbus planes .

But, A&K's configuration does have a minor drawback as the seats are in a 2x2 layout — meaning window seat passengers will not have direct-aisle access.

Guests in the window will have to climb over their aisle neighbor to get up , which can be even more difficult when the lie-flat bed is extended.

However, A&K's seats will typically be occupied by family or friends, so it's not as much of an issue compared to sitting next to a stranger.

As far as inflight entertainment, A&K provides each passenger with a tablet and noise-canceling headphones.

This is in lieu of seatback screens, which are typically fitted into airline international business class cabins but can add costly weight to the plane.

And, customers won't go hungry thanks to the onboard executive chef serving up specialties like caviar, chicken skewers, and high-end wine.

According to A&K, an onboard chef manages the inflight culinary program with meals served between destinations.

The plane also features perks like an espresso machine.

Although only a handful of the world's population can afford A&K's private jetliner, people are clearly willing to pay up.

Before this year's waitlist, the company told ITR last year that its summer 2022 global itineraries were also sold out.

Not to mention, A&K is not the only company operating in the "air cruise" market.

In general, private aviation has been booming since the pandemic as deep-pocket travelers flock to the comforts and conveniences offered by private jets compared to commercial airliners.

French luxury tour company Safrans du Monde operates a multi-day tour using an Airbus A340 private plane.

Like A&K, the company offers an all-business cabin, but Safrans du Monde's widebody plane allows it to accommodate up to 100 people and has room for couches.

Meanwhile, French boutique airline La Compagnie recently announced VIP tours from the US to the Caribbean.

La Compagnie already offers year-round flights on all-business class Airbus A321neos between Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and Paris Orly Airport.

And, farther south, Antarctic luxury tour company White Desert charters a private Airbus A340 between Cape Town, South Africa, and the seventh continent.

A one-day excursion, which includes 10 hours of flying roundtrip, starts at $14,500 and guests will spend just three hours on Antarctica.

But, the unique experience includes landing the giant widebody on White Desert's private runway made of ice.

Inside luxury tour operator Abercrombie & Kent’s first-class remodel of an entire Boeing 757 aircraft

Luxury tour operator Abercrombie & Kent is known for curating five-star trips around the world, but the company’s jet ventures take everything to a new level, literally and figuratively.

Abercrombie & Kent specially chartered and remodeled a Boeing 757-200ER aircraft with an entire layout in premium business style, ensuring that every passenger has a first class experience. Operated by Icelandair, the seating configuration can be optimized for the journey or use case. (For example, it can be converted back with different cabins of service to be reintegrated into Icelandair’s scheduled network to keep it flying regularly.)

As a passenger on this particular private jet, Abercrombie & Kent stresses that travelers can directly access more destinations not easily accessible via the major carriers—even from major U.S. airports—as well as bypass long customs and security lines, and come and go on a timetable based on the guests’ itinerary versus a typical airline schedule.

The cabin hosts 50 first-class, leather seats that recline a full 180 degrees into a bed more than six and a half feet long, with adjustable massage functions available as well as multiple power outlets (including USB ports) for keeping electronics charged. Free Wi-Fi is also included where service is available. Each seat’s footrest doubles as additional seating, perfect for socializing during the flight. And there is an adjustable reading light and a privacy screen for those who want to get some personal recharging time.

Bose noise-cancelling headphones and dedicated iPads are provided and loaded with entertainment options (movies, games, and a digital jukebox with hundreds of songs) as well as a live route map are provided for onboard use.

Hand-picked by A&K experts for their outstanding friendliness and attention to detail, all cabin attendants travel with guests from start to finish on their tours, with the intention of making the private jet feel more like a moving home away from home. Guests also keep the same seats on the plane throughout the tour.

Rounding out the private jet crew are an experienced executive chef and chef’s assistant, who supervise each serving so that every meal meets the highest standards of flavor and freshness. A bar stocked with premium brands (along with a curated wine list) provides the finishing touch to an elegant (and elevated) onboard experience. On select legs of a tour, guests can truly experience champagne dreams and caviar wishes, with premium champagnes (and other wines) available as well as a seat-side caviar service (including a vegan caviar made from seaweed).

This year, Abercrombie & Kent is running private jet tours to Africa (a 22-day trip starting at $134,500 per person) with stops across the continent from Marrakech to Cairo to Cape Town, as well as a 24-day trip around the world (starting at $153,900 per person) with stops in Kyoto, Japan; Kathmandu, Nepal; Petra, Jordan; and Palermo, Italy among other cities. Both trips are limited to 48 guests per tour. All tours are staffed with experienced guides, a professional photographer, and a medical physician at all times.

While A&K has long provided ground-based tours for nearly every type of trip you could envision, the company is (literally and figuratively) elevating the experience with its private jet journeys. While there's no great way to redeem points for these $160,000 (or more) adventures, you'll definitely get what you pay for — from the flights to the five-star resorts to the scrumptious meals, nearly everything is included with your fare.

Here's your answer.

A very special Boeing 757

While Abercrombie & Kent offers a few private jet journeys each year, the outfitter doesn't actually own the planes. Instead, it wet leases a 22-year-old Boeing 757-200 from Icelandair.

As part of the agreement, Icelandair provides the flight crew, handles all the maintenance, arranges the catering and deals with all the flight-related logistics. Abercrombie & Kent tells Icelandair where to go, and the Keflavik-based carrier takes care of the rest.

The average traveler might not even realize that Icelandair is involved in the Abercrombie & Kent journey. You won't find any of Icelandair's Saga premium seats on board, nor will you see the airline's new (or old) livery anywhere.

From the large Abercrombie & Kent logo plastered on the front of the jet to the signature ampersand and on the tail, this jet is distinctly Abercrombie & Kent. Plus, with A&K-branded carpets, headrest covers and magazines, there's no question you're traveling with the luxury tour provider.

But diving deeper reveals a different story.

For one, the jet's TF-FIC registration code means that it's registered in Iceland. Turns out, the plane used to fly commercially for Icelandair (as well as for Thomas Cook and American Trans Air, to name a few) before being converted into a VIP configuration and leased out to Abercrombie & Kent, as well as other luxury tour providers.

While the 12 Keflavik-based crew members are fluent in English, you'll hear them communicating with each other in Icelandic. If you pick up the safety card, you'll see that the aircraft operator is actually Icelandair.

Although Icelandair may not offer any lie-flat seats on its commercial jets, it's a whole different story on this luxurious Boeing 757.

Featuring 48 first-class seats

As you ascend the air stairs attached to door 2L on the 757, you won't have to worry about whether you're turning left or right — the entire cabin features the exact same type of first-class seat.

(Since you'll be flying to smaller airports and parking in the general aviation area, I'd expect that air stairs will be used at most, if not all, stops. Note that this could pose a problem for those with limited mobility.)

The cream-colored, forward-facing leather seats are arranged in a 2-2 configuration across one large 12-row cabin.

For someone who's never been on a private 757 before, it was pretty incredible to see such a sparse configuration. In contrast, Icelandair's standard 757-200 cabin features 183 seats spread across 34 rows.

With just 48 first-class seats, the cabin felt airy and spacious — unlike any other Boeing 757 I've flown before. Dare I say it, but the spacious configuration felt somewhat like flying on a wide-body.

While you won't find some of the conveniences of a twin-aisle jet , such as large overhead bins, tall ceilings and wide cabins, this Boeing 757 is easily one of the most luxurious in the skies, and it offers quite a unique way to fly around the world.

That said, you will notice there is one big drawback of flying on a single-aisle 757: The fuel tanks aren't large enough to store enough fuel for the longest journeys, so some of the transoceanic legs require a fuel stop or two. On the morning of TPG's ground tour, the jet was preparing to fly from Seattle to Tokyo, but it needed to stop in Anchorage to refuel.

Spacious lie-flat seats

Though the plane doesn't feature private suites with sliding doors, the 2-2 forward-facing configuration gives each passenger an incredible amount of personal space.

Similar to how I was pleasantly surprised when recently flying Delta's used Airbus A350 (which features a forward-facing business-class cabin), the seats on this 757 are perfect for those looking to rest, recharge or relax. Plus, since many travelers on these expeditions are couples, the lack of privacy may not be much of an issue.

Each leather-padded recliner features a whopping 78 inches of pitch — roughly in line with what you'd find in most international first-class products.

Though Abercrombie & Kent markets these seats as first class, they'd likely be branded as business class by most airlines these days since they don't have privacy doors or feature direct aisle access. That said, the cabin is quite intimate, and many of the touches feel unquestionably first class.

The seats themselves measure 19 inches wide with a nearly 6-inch-wide armrest separating the seats. There's also a privacy shield that you can raise from the armrest if you're looking to zone out.

The intuitive seat controls are built directly into the armrest and feature a few customization options and a massage feature.

You'll find an ottoman built into the floor in front of you, similar to the one in Lufthansa first class . There's an exposed storage area under each ottoman, which is the perfect place to store your shoes after changing into the provided slippers.

A literature pocket filled with some Abercrombie & Kent magazines and other important information about your journey separates each ottoman.

The sturdy wood-grain tray table pops out of the armrest with the push of a button. It measures 23 inches long and 16 inches wide — large enough to enjoy all your multicourse meals or catch up on some work while on board.

When it's time to rest, one of the nine flight attendants will happily turn your seat into a fully-flat bed, which measures over 75 inches long when fully reclined. The open configuration without any constricting footwells feels much more spacious than what you'd find in most international business-class products.

During turndown service, the crew will place a thick mattress pad, plush duvet and down pillow on your bed, making it even easier to get comfortable.

There are four lavatories on board the aircraft — three near the back and one at the front of the plane.

Though none of them are oversized, they do feature some first-class touches, such as fresh flowers hanging from the mirrors, L'Occitane beauty products and terry hand towels to dry your hands.

No stone unturned

The first-class experience really takes off with the range of amenities offered along with the personalized service.

Waiting at your seat for each leg of the journey is a day pillow, Bose noise-canceling headphones, an amenity kit and a loaner iPad.

Due to supply chain issues, Abercrombie & Kent's signature amenity kits weren't available during our exclusive media preview, but we're told to expect an assortment of luxury health and beauty products inside.

While there are no inflight entertainment screens at each seat, a provided iPad connects wirelessly to an onboard server to stream movies and TV shows. The jet is also equipped with satellite Wi-Fi, which is available free of charge throughout the journey.

Each pair of seats features three universal power outlets and USB-A ports — two next to the individual reading lamps and one just under the literature shelf near the ottoman.

During boarding, the crew hands out a leather-bound menu etched with the Abercrombie & Kent logo. Inside, you'll find the food and drink menu, which is customized for each leg of the journey.

Lunch on the Seattle-to-Japan sector started with Dungeness crab, followed by either a grilled halibut or a lamb fillet as an entree, with a chocolate mousse for dessert.

A range of top-shelf liquors, wines, beers and ports is available, as is an assortment of soft drinks and juices. The 757 even features an espresso machine for all your caffeine needs.

These aren't just "regular" first-class airplane meals, either. There's an onboard chef who travels with the group and can customize any dishes to your preferences. Prefer your steak cooked rare, or to eat just before landing? Just ask.

During boarding, you'll receive a light bite consisting of a freshly dipped chocolate-covered strawberry, a macaron and a glass of Dom Perignon 2012.

Despite the plane being 22 years old, the cabin was as fresh as ever. I observed the crew using a dust buster in the aisles and in the crevices between each seat to pick up any small speck of dirt. It was clear that they were very excited about delivering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the passengers.

Speaking of the crew, there are nine flight attendants and three pilots on these missions, for a 1:5 crew-to-guest ratio. Expect the flight attendants to get to know your name and your preferences throughout the journey.

The cabin is entirely first-class seating with one exception: the crew seating.

The crew travels along with the plane, and on longer sectors, they sit in regular economy seats that are spread throughout the cabin. There are two recliner-style first-class seats located just behind the forward galley, which is where the pilots rest during their breaks.

Bottom line

With Abercrombie & Kent's private jet trips, the journey matters just as much as the destination.

If you can afford the $160,000-a-seat expedition, you'll enjoy a first-rate travel experience that tops many of the world's best airlines. With an onboard chef whipping up five-star meals, spacious leather lie-flat seats and a no-hassles travel journey, you may never want to fly commercially again.

For everyone else, keep racking up the points for a trip in Emirates first class or Singapore Suites . These top-notch cabins may not be the same as a private Boeing 757 charter, but they're about as close as you'll come without the hundred-grand price tag.

Abercrombie & Kent is launching a new Private Jet journey in 2025 that explores the vast continent of Africa on one epic 23-day adventure. The luxury travel provider has curated an innovative itinerary spanning seven countries, including, for the first time on an A&K Private Jet journey, Tunisia.

– driving a real tank along the specifically designed routes;

– the real military world crash course, transferring you through the history of tank battles and allowing your personal participation;

– the possibility of shooting various types of small arms (machine guns, Kalashnikov rifles) while riding in armoured vehicles.

    And, sure enough, all that will be accompanied by realistic sounds ambience and pyrotechnics explosions, allowing you to feel a surge of adrenaline first-hand. In addition, you will be provided by friendly attention and service, you will be able to taste the military field cuisine sitting in comfortable tents, and enjoy the real fun of military songs and dances.

L-29 delfin trainer jet.

The L-29 Delfin trainer jet is a Soviet military plane produced in Czechoslovakia between 1963 and 1974. At its time, the L-29 was the primary trainer jet for the Soviet Air Force’s pilots .

Its turbojet engine producing close to 9kN of thrust allows the L-29 to climb at an impressive rate of 14m/s. The plane top speed is 820 km/h , similar to most conventional airliners.

L-39 Albatros fighter jet

The L-39 Albatros has been developed to succeed the L-29 Delfin as primary trainer jet for the Soviet Air Forces from the early 1970s on to the late 1990s.

Additionally to its versatile trainer role, the L39 was being used as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft and in combat as a light ground attack aircraft .

The L-39 is powered by a turbofan engine, developing close to 17kN of thrust. The jet rate of climb is a skyrocketing 21m/s and its top speed a whooshing 910km/h .

With its impressive performances, the L-39 is the perfect ride for your most extreme flying experience in Moscow.
