The definition for a private tour is an itinerary run exclusively for you and your family or friends. On a private trip, everybody you travel with will be somebody you know. Private tours are more flexible when it comes to your group size, travel dates and what your trip includes.

What is the difference between public and private tours?

Public tours run on scheduled dates, whereas a private tour can depart on any date that suits you. Anyone can join a private tour, whereas a private tour is exclusively just you and your friends or family. Public tours have a limited group size, whereas private tours can have as many or few guests as you like.

A long weekend tour can be three or four days, while a round-the-world trip might take several months! A tradition unlike any other, the Masters offers an ideal setting for golf manufacturers – and players – to show off their creative side. When the PGA TOUR heads to Augusta National for the season’s first major, anything and everything is on the table when it comes to custom golf bags, clothing and gear.

There is a plethora of options for inspiration, and some stick to the traditions for stimulation: the Masters green jacket donned by patrons across the property, blooming azaleas lining Amen Corner or the iconic logo, a yellow United States outline with a red flagstick pinned in Georgia. Others go off-piste, thinking outside the box (like Waffle House-themed golf shoes in years past).

Some of the items promoted by the pros at Augusta National are available for purchase, or through company giveaways, while others were made specifically for players or caddies at the event. TaylorMade traditional staff bags

TaylorMade’s 88th Masters edition staff bag sees a clean and traditional green-and-white color scheme with subtle design notes paying tribute to the ethos of the first major of the year. The company opted for the classic TaylorMade logo on the sides of the bag, while the more modern “T” logo is created with pink azaleas on the front. The handle displays commendation to Amen Corner with gold flags numbered 11 to 13 highlighted with a halo. Across the white sections of the bag, embossed azaleas bring a subtle 3D effect. In contrast, a collection of birth orange peaches lines the bag’s pockets, synonymous with Georgia’s state fruit.

Callaway colorful staff bags

For 2024, Callaway decided on a fully white bag with the traditional Masters green as trim. The bag’s main feature is a floral collage of pink, purple, red and orange azaleas on each side of the bag. The same can be said for the headcovers and putter covers.

Spieth’s standout nametag

The 2015 Masters champion is known for his unique black-and-neon blue AT&T staff bag seen weekly on the PGA TOUR. However, Augusta National allows Jordan Spieth to change things up. This year’s Masters sees Spieth’s familiar caddie Michael Greller carrying a green-and-white version of the bag but with one standout feature. On the front of the bag is a metallic gold, flashy nametag displaying “Jordan Spieth.”

Thomas’ custom Premiere Series FootJoys

The 15-time PGA TOUR winner debuted a slick pair of custom PLAYERS Championship spikes for TPC Sawgrass earlier in the season. This week in Augusta, Justin Thomas has been seen wearing a pair of Premiere Series FootJoys with a custom light pink azalea on the heel and a green-and-white gradient sole.

The TaylorMade Pix range for TP5 and TP5x golf balls has offered various versions of logos from supporting college teams to Nelly Korda’s donut-printed design. This year for the Masters, TaylorMade has opted for unique placements of peaches across the golf ball. Each fresh “batch” comes in a textured box similar to the skin of a ripe Georgia peach.

Callaway Chrome Tour Major Series

Similar to the Pix design, Callaway’s Chrome Tour balls are available in a number of different designs. The Masters edition for 2024 has a springtime-inspired flower pattern celebrating the iconic April major championship.

Under Armour Drive Pro LE Golf Shoes “Patron’s Pack”

Look back to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, and between the storms Jordan Spieth was seen with a custom pair of Under Armour Drive Pro golf shoes. Fast forward to April, and Under Armour has released a Masters-themed version of the shoes that both Spieth and Maverick McNealy spent months designing. This version sees white-and-tan mesh with a classic Masters green-and-yellow trim and outsole. The insole features a Masters green checkered pattern with a playful Under Armour-branded pimento cheese logo.

PUMA PHANTOMCAT NITRO “Garden”

The aptly named “Garden” edition of the Puma PHANTOMCAT NITRO features a white leather design with green trim. The green-and-white sole of the golf shoe displays a black azalea with their re-imagined, bright yellow FLEXSPIKE.

Custom Tour Packages allow you to speak with an expert to plan your trip  rather than following a set itinerary already established by the tour operator. Where you go, how many days you spend there, and what kind of travel and accommodations you choose are entirely up to you. Your trip could include a private guide or guides , or you may want to guide yourself. Working under the guidance of a tour agency – some of which specialize only in custom tours -- you choose where you want to go and when, and the agency takes care of much or all of the logistics.

Customized tours have recently entered the mainstream of the tour business. Once mainly the province of the wealthy few who could afford to hire a tour agency to put together a trip just for them, custom tours are now widely offered by a whole range of tour companies, including those whose main business is offering guided group tours.

The effect is that custom tours – while generally more expensive than standard guided group tours for a variety of reasons – are no longer limited to just luxury tours that would bust the budget of many a traveler. With added competition, including that from more budget-oriented tour agencies, lower-cost custom tours are now much more readily available.

This isn’t to say that luxury custom tours are no longer predominant. They are, partially because budget travelers still tend to look to guided group tours first, where the economies of scale – and typically less work for the tour agencies – add up to lower prices. But the field is widening.

Who Are Good Candidates for Custom Tours?

Honeymooners . If you’re on your honeymoon, you may not wish to travel in the company of people you don’t know. A custom tour can easily be fashioned into a romantic tour of, say, Italy, or – for adventurous couples – a land-river tour of Southeast Asia or an African safari complete with private guide and luxury safari tents. 

Families . Custom tours are ideal for families who fear that their children will miss the company of other kids on group tours where adults predominate. Parents may also feel that other travelers will resent having children along on their group tour. With a custom tour, parents can emphasize quality family time together and make sure their kids’ interests are taken fully into account. Custom tours can also work well by adding grandparents to the generational mix, or perhaps by joining up with friends who have children the same age. 

Other small groups of friends or associates who want to travel together and follow the same itinerary, specific to them. 

Individuals or couples who like traveling by themselves but  don’t want to spend much time on logistics or who want expert advice in setting up their trip. Every custom tour should offer those two advantages.

Travelers who can’t find exactly what they want in a standard group guided tour . They’ve combed the brochures but none of the tours offered to their destination meet their needs in terms of timing or itinerary. With a custom tour, they can go where they want when they want. 

Travelers who want to go at their own pace and maintain more flexibility and spontaneity than guided group tours may offer. While many group tours offer some time to go off on your own, you may want more free time than that – and you still need to keep up (or slow down) to stay with the group. With a custom tour, you can choose your level of flexibility – for instance, you might opt for a rental car and arranged lodgings on a driving tour of Wales, keeping the rest of your day free to roam as you wish. (Custom tour agencies will provide suggested routes, sights, eating places, and other ideas, but you can make the final decisions on the spur of the moment when you’re there.)

Is a Custom Tour Right For You?

You know best what kind of traveler you are. If you enjoy making new friends or having lots of company on a trip, or feel more secure traveling with a group, you may be best suited for guided group tours. If you have very specific ideas about what you want to see or do on a trip, and can’t find guided group tours that fill the bill, a custom tour may be right for you.   

Many tour agencies listed on Stride specialize only in individualized custom (sometimes called "tailor made " or “bespoke”) tours. Many other tour companies will custom design a tour for you if you prefer that to a standard tour.

Amazon River Basin

When it comes to describing the Amazon River Basin, it’s probably best to talk numbers. This world of natural and biological wonders covers an area of over 2,600,000 square miles (or approximately 40% of South American), is 4,195 miles long, and has 15,000 tributaries and sub-tributaries, four of which are longer than 1,000 miles.

It’s also home to a staggering variety of flora and fauna, including over 80,000 plant species, 16,000 species of trees, 2,200 species of fish, 1,500 species of birds, 1,400 species of mammals, and 1,000 species of amphibians. There are even 1,300 species of butterflies alone! Truly, this is a nature lover’s paradise.

Machu Picchu

Stunningly situated high in the Andes Mountains and overlooking the Urubamba River valley, Machu Picchu is one of the must-sees on any world traveler’s bucket list. This Incan citadel built in the 15th century and then later abandoned is world-famous for its dry-stone walls made out of cut stone that "fit together without mortar so tightly that its cracks still can’t be penetrated by a knife blade."

The purpose behind its complex of plazas, palaces, temples, and homes that play on astronomical alignments still remains a mystery to scholars, but one thing is known for sure: The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu is truly one of the greatest archaeological wonders on Earth.

Sacred Valley

Stretching along the Urubamba River, from the Inca citadels of Pisac to Ollantaytambo, is Peru’s spectacular Sacred Valley. Known as "Vilcamayo" to the Incas, the Sacred Valley is home to pre-Colombian ruins, picturesque villages, amazing archaeological sites, huge saltpans, and incredible terraced mountainsides. If that weren’t enough to attract you, its combination of slightly higher temperatures and lower altitudes also makes the Sacred Valley the perfect place to acclimatize to the altitude of the Andes.

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was a 15th-century, multi-day pilgrimage and ceremonial route that was re-discovered by Hiram Bingham in the early 1900s. The trail passes a number of Inca archaeological sites on the way, and travelers typically spend a day hiking the final section, which offers dramatic and changing views as you approach the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu.

In the heart of the land of the Incas is the city of Cusco (11,150′), whose name is taken from the Quechua word for "naval" or "center". Here, dramatic Spanish colonial architecture blends with solid Inca masonry in a harmony belying the area’s tumultuous history. Beautiful cathedrals abound, often built directly on top of ancient Inca temples. The juxtaposition of pagan and Christian art and architecture is fascinating, and the stonework of the Incas is unsurpassed by that of any other culture.

The Altitude

Peru's geography is as diverse as its culture, with altitudes from sea level to over 22,000 feet. Most of our custom trips begin and end in Cusco, which is situated at 11,150 feet, in the foothills of the Andes, while our walks and hikes will take place at elevations of 8,000 feet to approximately 12,000 feet. There is time to move at a comfortable pace, allowing ourselves to adjust to the mountain air.

The mountainous areas of Peru have pronounced rainy and dry seasons, which are more responsible for the prevailing weather than seasonal temperature fluctuations. While the dry season lasts only from May through September, the most significant rains fall from January through March. Temperatures do not fluctuate as much, although nights do tend to be colder from May through September. Any time of year, dressing in layers is a good strategy, so that you can shed or add layers as the day heats and cools.

Peru is generally delightful for hiking from April through December. We avoid scheduling trips January through March, as this is the height of the rainy season. That being said, the hillsides and valleys tend to be greener in April, May and June. Later in the dry season, the fields turn golden and the campesinos harvest their crops.

In the Amazon River basin, daytime temperatures are fairly consistent year-round, although nighttime temperatures are a bit cooler from May to September. During those same months, the weather is driest, although this is a typical rainforest climate and it is not unusual for it to rain for a part of each day. It is fine to plan a trip at any time of year, although we do suggest avoiding the rainiest months of December through March.

When to Reserve

If you are planning to hike along the Inca Trail, It is important to reserve your trip early, as the Peruvian government has a permit system in place which strictly limits the number of hikers on the Inca Trail at any given time. Permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis, and they can only be confirmed upon receipt of your deposit, as well as informing the government of your passport information to reserve a permit for you.

Guides for our "Into the Amazon" Itinerary

Reserva Amazonica All excursions from the lodge are guided in small groups by one of Reserva Amazonica's trained professional Explorer Guides in English (other languages available upon request, and may be subject to additional charge). Their knowledge, interpretive skills, and local connections combine to provide understanding, insight, and an enhanced experience of the surrounding environment.

Dinners in Peru feature generous portions of beef, lamb, chicken, or fish, potatoes or rice, and fresh vegetables, such as locally grown avocados, summer squash, and olives. Delicacies such as roast cuy (guinea pig), alpaca, and ceviche (chilled marinated fish) are available on some menus. Breakfast generally features common continental offerings, cereals made from quinoa, as well as scrambled eggs and sausage. Delicious hearty soups are also a staple of Peruvian meals, and are often available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Vegetarians can be accommodated with advance notice, though choices tend to be more limited.

Harry was born in a village in the center of the Incas' Sacred Valley and began hiking the Inca Trail and exploring the Vilcabamba region as a young boy. The son of a traveling teacher, Harry had the opportunity to travel extensively through the mountains and villages surrounding Cusco and near Machu Picchu.

Inside Zendaya's Challengers tour wardrobe

The queen of method dressing is embracing all things tennis

Over the years, the actress has tapped into her characters in the most inventive of ways, from her custom Valentino Spider-Man look to that very memorable vintage Mugler moment for the Dune 2 premiere . And, for her latest movie Challengers , which sees her star as a tennis player, Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach have been finding the most fabulous and surreal ways to nod to the film, including a pair of tennis ball-adorned stilettos.

With Loewe responsible for the costumes in the film, the actress has been working closely with Jonathan Anderson on a number of her custom red-carpet looks, while she has also been turning to Louis Vuitton.

Below, we round up all of her tennis-inspired looks.

Vintage Vivienne Westwood

For the London photocall, Zendaya wore a striped two-piece from Vivienne Westwood's spring/summer 1994 collection.

Custom Thom Browne

For the London premiere, Zendaya wore a custom Thom Browne design, which featured a pleated skirts, a collar and tennis racket motifs across it.

She wore her hair in a sporty plaited ponytail with a giant ribbon.

Custom Calvin Klein

For the Rome premiere, Zendaya chose another all-white ensemble, this time a custom skirt suit by Calvin Klein, which she wore open with a statement Bulgari necklace and an updo.

Custom Loewe

For the Rome photocall, Zendaya wore a sequin-covered tennis dress by Loewe, which she paired with white pointed pumps with mini tennis balls on the heel.

Custom Louis Vuitton

For the Paris premiere , the actress embraced Wimbledon whites in a custom Louis Vuitton gown with a strapless corset bodice, a sweetheart neckline and a sweeping sheer skirt with a lettuce hem. She paired it with lots of Bulgari diamonds.

Vintage Louis Vuitton

For another appointment in Paris, Zendaya wore a shiny satin highlighter-green co-ord from Louis Vuitton's spring/summer 1999 collection.

Earlier that day, she wore another vintage Louis Vuitton look, this one a green-and-white checked ensemble from spring/summer 2013.

For the Australian premiere of the movie, Zendaya wore a green sequinned dress by Loewe which featured an outline of a tennis player and ball across it.

Nicki Minaj 's tour is breaking records and now she getting into the shoe game ... with her new custom sneaker line!!!

On Friday, Nicki and UK-based brand LØCI made their partnership official and debuted her Pink Friday footwear with a futuristic rollout and unveiled a pink low-top casual sneaker with red shoestrings and a portrait of Nicki's mug sealed on the tongue.

We're hearing Nicki's personally gravitated to the brand on account of her keen stylist sense and signed on as an owner and collaborator.

LØCI's CEO Emmanuel Eribo praised Nicki's "creativity and freedom" and stated he gave her a blank canvas to create -- and create she did.

The collection will produce 5 different styles across 11 colorways a.k.a. closet options galore for the fashion-forward Barb!!!

She's making fans go vegan by design ... the shoes are priced between $185-$200 and made from non-food grade corn and other recycled materials.
