In the past few years, Las Terrenas has become a popular bohemian style destination alternative for those you are not into all inclusive resorts in Punta Cana. The European expat community has infused an international flavor into the local hotel, b&b, and dining scene. Las Terrenas is a bit over 2 hours by car from the capital Santo Domingo on the new highway. Caribe Tours bus terminal in Santo Domingo has frequent buses to town of Sanchez, and from there one takes a local mini bus to Las Terrenas. This way it can take up to 4 hours. Pueblo de los Pescadores (Fishermen’s Village) is a small area of charming restaurants and bars close to the beach. Years ago, this cluster of new establishments used to be a fishing village. There are still many fishermen who use the area as a base for daily fishing. At night the area is a great spot to try some of the local Dominican cuisine, and fusion restaurants. For a nice breakfast, stop by French-owned bakery El Pan de Antes (Plaza Kanesh on Calle Carmen ) in the center of town for delicious croissants, quiche, bread, and strong tasty Dominican coffee. A small, cozy, romantic bungalow style hotel to stay at is Casa Robinson, located at Calle E Prud’Homme 2, a few steps away from the ocean. The atmosphere of the hotel is wonderful along with great staff and service. At the end of the day, walk along the beach around sunset time and watch gorgeous colors come alive.

About us – Tour operator in Las Terrenas

The excursions we offer are very special because we work closely with Dominicans, locals to the places we visit. We try to involve locals and locals companies as much as possible and work closely with communities to develop a more sustainable type of tourism, that benefits all and is respectful of the environment.

We organize private tours, in small groups, to little-known places so you can enjoy nature in peace, without being surrounded by hundreds of other tourists. For more popular destinations, we try to organize the tours in order to get there before anyone else.

Escape the crowds from the big tour companies with hundreds of tourists, waiting in line to take pictures of the Dominican Republic’s natural beauty. We start the tours in a different way, before anybody else in order to arrive first on site like at El Limon waterfall so you can enjoy the refreshing natural jacuzzi all by yourself and get the perfect picture.

For whale watching, a local fisherman will drive you directly to a secret spot, so you can avoid being surrounded by tons of other boats, and witness the amazing show of the mother teaching her baby how to swim and jump. Same at Los Haitises National Park, a local will bring you off the normal tourist path, along hidden historical places and natural wonders.

Our goal is to promote local eco-tourism, being mindful of the Dominican Republic environment, while giving you a taste of the Dominican life.

Amandarose74 OMG I know this a lot, very excited about our trip!!!

' class=

If you want to surf in Cabarete, I suggest you try either Hooked Cabarete in Playa Encuentro, or better yet, Swell Surf Camp (not a really camp, a B&B).

PS: To come from Las Terrenas to Cabarete, you need to take a guagua to Sanches, then take the 2pm bus (check this with your hotel in Las Terrenas) Transporte Papagayo. It'll leave you right in Cabarete.

Thanks Silvia,

we appreciate it. Swell is a little out of our price range though. What does anyone know @ Casa blanca? Seems cheap and clean. Hooked is also very nice but we want to be close to town a little more than that I think. Hotel Alegria is booked through the 20th and we need something for the 16-23

Disclosure first, I'm associated with Hotel Alegria. You should post in the Cabarete forum. Other members are better suited to give you feedback on any hotels you may be interested in.

Anywhere you stay that it is not in Encuentro beach, you'll need transportation to go surfing. That will add to your housing costs somewhere between $10-15 a day (depending on how good you are at negotiating with a cabbie or a moto taxi).

Silva you've been wonderful an I appreciate your help

Just a correction. When I posted the cost of going to Encuentro, I had in mine a traveler who was asking about it but was carrying his own surf board.

You can always take a moto taxi (moto concho). The rate is about $1.5, but they will ask tourists a lot more. Negotiate!

Silvia thank-you for your help!!

as far as LT goes since you will have no vehicle i would stay in town some place. try looking at some of these
