Passengers can join ANA’s loyalty program, ANA Mileage Club, to earn miles to redeem for lots of rewards. Members can earn miles on domestic and international flights with ANA and a variety of partner airlines.

Miles can be redeemed for reward flights and upgrade vouchers, as well as hotel stays, extra baggage allowance, and car rental.

ANA’s Premium Membership Services provide additional privileges and benefits to elite members at Bronze, Platinum, and Diamond levels.

Depending on the elite level, passengers can enjoy lounge access, upgrade rewards, priority check-in, and miles bonuses, among a whole host of other benefits.

ANA Baggage and Other Fees/Add-Ons

Carry-on allowance.

ANA allows all passengers to bring a personal item and 1 standard carry-on bag into the cabin. ANA does not disclose size or weight restrictions for the personal item, but the standard piece must not exceed 22 x 16 x 10 inches (55 x 40 x 25 cm) and no more than 22 pounds (10 kg).

Checked Allowance

Domestic Routes:

• Bags must not exceed maximum linear dimensions of 81.9 inches (208 cm)
• Economy passengers: 44 pounds (20 kg)
• Premium passengers: 88 pounds (40 kg)

There is no limit to the number of pieces a passenger can bring, providing the combined weight does not exceed the allowance.

International Routes:

• Bags must not exceed maximum linear dimensions of 62 inches (158 cm)
• Economy/Premium Economy: 2 x 50 pounds (23 kg) bags
• Business Class: 2 x 70 pounds (32 kg) bags
• First Class: 3 x 70 pounds (32 kg) bags

Additional/Excess Baggage Fees

Pre-paid luggage is between $50 and $200 depending on the route.

ANA has a fleet of 240 aircraft ranging from the Boeing 777-200 for domestic flights to the double-decker A380 for long-haul routes. Below are the seat specs for some of ANA’s aircraft.

ANA Customer Satisfaction

ANA is highly rated on review sites and social media, supporting ANA’s 5-star status. Asian hospitality is often referred to as the best, and ANA’s cabin crew are proof of this, being widely praised for their warm nature, professionalism, and attentiveness.

Onboard dining is a firm favorite for passengers as the airline serves local specialties such as Japanese Arare rice crackers and sushi. There’s even an upgrade option for economy and premium economy passengers to purchase for an enhanced dining experience.

A common criticism that passengers have with the airline is the ANA website. Customers have described the user experience as clunky and old fashioned , so let’s hope that the airline soon invests in modernizing its website in line with its 5-star status.

ANA is a first class airline when it comes to its soft product offerings, such as food and beverage and inflight service. Compared to business and first class seating on other 5-star airlines, ANA’s can look a little dated but is still comfortable and functional.

Although ANA and Singapore Airlines are currently connected via Star Alliance , their new joint venture would offer passengers joint fare products and greater alignment across their frequent flyer programs.

The website will launch today and provides access to travel insurance provided by members of the Tokio Marine Group and its affiliated companies *1 to customers residing overseas who have already booked and purchased ANA international flight tickets on both ANA operated flights and codeshare flights to Japan. The introduction of this service is designed to simplify the travel preparation process, improve the customer experience, and offer added reassurance during the trip. ANA and Tokio Marine & Nichido will continue to work together as international travel resumes to ensure that travel is as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Services at the Departure Airport

Support at the airport (please reserve in advance by telephone) (by 72 hours prior to departure).

Airport support is available from the check-in counter to the boarding gate (to the lounge for passengers eligible to enter the lounge) for an adult passenger traveling with 1 or more children who are all under 3 years of age. Please  apply by telephone.

Baby stroller rental service

Baby strollers are available for passengers with infants (both types A and B are available).

If you wish to use a baby stroller, please let us know when you check in.

You can use a borrowed baby stroller (type A or type B) from the counter until the boarding gate.

Limited numbers are available (prior reservation is not available).

Not available at some airports.

Please check in* your stroller with all personal items removed. 

Stroller can be checked free of charge.

You can confirm the size regulations for carry-on baggage for International flights from " Carry-on Baggage Size and Rules (International Flights) ".

As only one item of carry-on baggage is allowed per passenger, passengers bringing a baby stroller on board cannot bring other carry-on items with them aside from personal effects such as handbags, cameras or umbrellas.

Please fold and store your baby stroller in a case before passing through the ticket gate. If you do not have a case of your own, our staff will provide you with a plastic bag specifically for use with baggage.

In-flight Services

Correct way of sitting (passengers accompanied by a child not occupying their own seat).

Fasten the seat belt over yourself only, and hold your baby securely on your lap above the seat belt. If you are using a baby carrier, fasten your seat belt first and then put on the carrier.

Bassinet (Please reserve in advance by telephone)(by 48 hours prior to departure)

Bassinets are provided on all international aircraft for infants not occupying a seat. Please  apply by telephone.

Weight: maximum 10kg

The number and position of bassinet seats are limited.

First Class (on all aircrafts) are excluded from this service.

Please note that bassinets may differ depending on aircraft.

You will be able to find a lavatory which is equipped with a tabletop for changing diapers.

We also provide a special blanket for passengers who have requested a bassinet. In addition to being gentle to the touch, the material used in this soft, light blanket strikes a great balance between heat retention, ventilation and absorbency to help your baby relax. Moreover, the blanket is made from the same type of fabric used in Uchino's Marshmallow Puff Gauze, which comes recommended by the Japan Atopic Dermatitis Patients Association.

Using carry-on beds for children

When using portable bed products for children (such as JetKids BedBox or Fly-Tot), please use a window seat or a center seat in the section between the aisles as a general rule. (Hammock-type bed products cannot be used.)

These products cannot be used during taxiing, takeoff, landing, or when the fasten seat belt sign is turned on.

As with other carry-on baggage, carry-on beds must be stored in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front during these times.

Also during cruise, you may be asked to refrain from usage depending on the circumstances.

In order to ensure a safe and comfortable flight, the cabin attendants will check on seatbelt usage and that other passengers are not being inconvenienced.

Baby meals/child meals (special meals)

Baby Meals (BBML) / Child Meals (CHML)

These meals must be requested  via the ANA website or   by phone   at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of your flight.

Allergen-Free Meals These meals must be requested   at least 24 hours (for flights departing from Japan) or 48 hours (for flights arriving in Japan) before the scheduled departure time of your flight. They cannot be requested via the ANA website.  Please call us to make your request.

The menu will differ by route. Please confirm details at the time of reservation.

Please note that we may not be able to honor your request depending on factors such as route, aircraft type, etc. Thank you for your understanding.

The baby meal (BBML), which must be requested in advance of travel, mainly consists of weaning foods such as bottled pureed foods and soups.

Separately to this, we can also provide baby food on board to infants over 12 months but under 2 years old. Please speak to a cabin attendant on board to request this. (Please note that quantities are limited and there may be times when we are unable to fulfill your request.)

Powdered milk

Powdered milk is available on board. However, we recommend that you bring your own since there are limits in quantities and types. Our cabin crew will be happy to prepare it for you. Please let us know if you would like to take advantage of this service.

Paper diapers

Paper diapers (M size and L size) are available on board. However, as there are limits in quantities and types, we recommend that you have an adequate supply of diapers for your trip.

Goods for children (ANA original toys and souvenirs)

ANA original toys and souvenirs are prepared for your little ones to make the journey more enjoyable.

Seats (Pre-assigning seats accepted)

Seats can be pre-assigned either online or by telephone.

For safety reasons, please note the following conditions will apply.

If you want your infant to travel in a seat, please apply by telephone.

Infants who will occupy their own seat (and are of an age applicable for the child fare, namely at least 8 days old but less than 2 years old) cannot use First Class on any of our aircraft types or Business Class on certain Boeing 787, Boeing 777, Boeing 767 and Airbus 380 aircraft.

For safety standards, seats on emergency exits rows are not permitted. Additionally, passengers traveling with an infant may not be seated in the same seat row as another passenger traveling with an infant due to limited oxygen mask availability.

If there is more than one passenger traveling with an infant, please select seats in a different row or on the other side of the aisle.

Please note that your assigned seat may change due to change in aircraft or other reasons.

Services at the Connecting and Arrival Airport

Airport support is available for an adult passenger traveling with 1 or more children under 3 years of age. Please  apply by telephone.

Airport staff will escort passengers from the disembarking gate to the check-in counter or the boarding gate for a connecting flight. (If the connecting flight will depart from a different terminal, airport staff will escort them to the shuttle bus area).  

At the arrival airport

Airport staff will escort passengers from the disembarking gate to the arrival lobby or passenger pick-up area.

Traveling with infants (aged from 8 days or more to under 2 years)

If you are traveling with an infant, please be sure to inform  ANA  as there may be boarding limitations.

Infants and toddlers are to be accompanied by a passenger at least 12 years of age. 

One adult may accompany up to two infants below the age of 2. *2 However, one infant is to occupy a seat to which the child fare will be applied.

Passengers who are expecting to give birth within 28 days of their departure date can travel with one accompanying infant only.

When one adult is accompanied by two infants, child seats are required.

Child passengers (aged from 2 years or more to under 12)

Children aged under 5 must travel in the same class as an accompanying passenger aged 12 or over.  

Children must be accompanied by a passenger aged 12 or over (or 18 or over on Mexico routes, or 16 or over on Canada routes). Furthermore, if a child uses a child seat, the accompanying passenger must sit in the adjacent seat.

Children aged 5-11 years (or 5-13 years on Mexico routes) may travel alone. For details, please see ANA Junior Pilot .

If not using a seat: Infant fare (10% of applicable adult fare)

If using a seat: Child fare (75% of applicable adult fare)

OC Health Care Agency Encourages Safe Travel and Precautions Against COVID-19 During Winter Holiday Season

(Santa Ana, CA)  – In anticipation of increased travel during the upcoming winter holiday season, the OC Health Care Agency (HCA) advises residents and visitors to adhere to guidelines for  domestic  and  international  travel from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For individuals who are fully vaccinated:

• You can travel safely within the U.S. without being required to test or quarantine
• If you are traveling internationally, check your destination’s COVID-19 situation and travel requirements before traveling, as countries may have their own entry and exit requirements. You are also required to show proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 3 days before traveling back to the U.S. from a foreign country. After returning to the U.S., get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel and self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms

For individuals who are not fully vaccinated:

• You are strongly encouraged to delay travel until you are fully vaccinated
• If you must travel, get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before travel and 3-5 days after travel, and stay home and self-quarantine for 7 full days after travel, even if you test negative (10 days if you don’t get tested). International travelers must also provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 1 day before traveling back to the U.S. from a foreign country

If you recently recovered from COVID-19, you may instead travel with documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (i.e., your positive COVID-19 viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure from a foreign country and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel). Non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. immigrants must be fully vaccinated to travel to the United States by plane (not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or traveling to the United States on an immigrant visa). The timing of this test depends on your vaccination status and age. Additionally, beginning November 8, foreign nationals who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and have appropriate documentation  will be permitted  to enter the U.S. via land ports of entry and ferry terminals for non-essential reasons such as tourism. “Be patient as there will be longer wait times at airports,” says  Dr. Clayton Chau,  HCA Director and County Health Officer. “Be ready for a layer of extra screening procedures to verify the vaccination status and ID of each traveler. Most importantly, be kind to your transportation service providers, especially in the air”. Regardless of your vaccination status, you  must  wear a mask over your nose and mouth at all times on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and while indoors at U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations.  “With the holidays approaching, we know that more people will be traveling and gathering in groups, which increases the likelihood of COVID-19 passing from person to person,” says  Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong,  Deputy County Health Officer. “In addition to following the CDC’s travel guidelines, we continue to strongly encourage everyone to routinely self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and getting tested if you feel sick. If you are unvaccinated, wear a mask when you are indoors, in large crowds and poorly ventilated spaces. Most importantly, know your own risks and those of your loved ones. Finally, to prevent another surge, if you are eligible and not yet fully vaccinated, please get vaccinated.” While COVID-19 cases in Orange County have dropped slightly over the last several days, COVID-19 hospitalizations have increased. Between November 4 and November 9, hospitalizations increased from 212 to 225 per day. The seven-day average COVID-19 case rate decreased from 7.9 to 7.4 per 100,000 people and the average number of daily COVID-19 cases decreased from 254 to 239. The positivity rate has remained steady at 2.8 percent and ICU admissions dropped slightly from 54 to 53 per day.  Orange County COVID-19 case count and testing figures are updated daily, Monday through Friday, at  occovid19.ochealthinfo.com/coronavirus-in-oc . La Agencia del Cuidado de la Salud de OC Alienta a Viajar con Seguridad y a Tomar Precauciones contra el COVID-19 durante la Temporada Festiva de Invierno

(Santa Ana, CA)  – En previsión del aumento de los viajes durante la próxima temporada de vacaciones de invierno, la Agencia del Cuidado de la Salud del Condado de Orange (HCA, por sus siglas en inglés) aconseja a los residentes y visitantes que se apeguen a las normas para los viajes  nacionales  e  internacionales  de los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés). Para los individuos que están completamente vacunados:

• Puede viajar con seguridad dentro de los Estados Unidos sin que se le exija la prueba o la cuarentena
• Si viaja al extranjero, compruebe la situación del COVID-19 en su destino y los requisitos de viaje antes de viajar, ya que los países pueden tener sus propios requisitos de entrada y salida. También se requiere que muestre una prueba de vacunación y un resultado negativo de la prueba de COVID-19 tomada no más de 3 días antes de viajar a los EE.UU. desde un país extranjero. (Santa Ana, CA)  – Trong dự đoán du lịch sẽ gia tăng vào dịp các cuộc lễ mùa đông sắp đến, Cơ Quan Y Tế Công Cộng Quận Cam (HCA) khuyến cáo các cư dân nên tuân thủ những hướng dẫn du lịch  quốc nội  và  quốc tế  từ Cơ Quan Phòng Dịch Liên Bang (CDC).  Đối với những cá nhân đã chích ngừa hoàn toàn:

• Quý vị có thể du lịch an toàn trong nội địa Hoa Kỳ mà không cần phải xét nghiệm hay bị cô lập.
• Nếu quý vị đi du lịch quốc tế, phải xem xét tình trạng COVID-19 nơi mình dự định đến và những điều kiện du lịch trước khi khởi hành, một khi những quốc gia này có những ràng buộc riêng về việc nhập cảnh và xuất cảnh. Quý vị cũng có thể bắt buộc phải xuất trình chứng nhận đã chích ngừa và xét nghiệm COVID-19 âm tính không quá ba ngày trước khi du hành trở lại Hoa Kỳ từ ngoại quốc. Những người không phải là công dân Hoa Kỳ hay không phải là thường trú nhân Hoa Kỳ phải được chích ngừa hoàn toàn mới được du hành đến Hoa Kỳ bằng máy bay ( Nếu không phải là công dân Hoa Kỳ, Quốc Tịch Hoa Kỳ, thường trú nhân hợp pháp, hay du hành đến Hoa Kỳ bằng thông hành thường trú nhân). Thời gian xét nghiệm này tùy thuộc vào tình trạng và tuổi tác chích ngừa. Thêm vào đó, kể từ ngày 8 tháng Mười Một, các người có quốc tịch ngoại quốc đã được chích ngừa COVID-19 hoàn toàn và có giấy chứng nhận chích ngừa hợp lệ  sẽ được cho phép  nhập cảnh vào Hoa Kỳ qua các ngã đường bộ và các bến phà cho những lý do không chính yếu như đi du lịch. Bác Sĩ Clayton Chau,  Giám Đốc Cơ Quan Y Tế Công Cộng kiêm Ủy Viên Đặc Nhiệm Y Tế Quận Cam phát biểu: “ Xin hãy kiên nhẫn vì thời gian chờ đợi khá lâu tại phi trường, xin hãy sẵn sàng cho các thủ tục khám xét tương đối khá dài để kiểm nhận tình trạng chích ngừa và giấy chứng nhận cho từng du khách. Đặc biệt nhất, nên giữ lịch sự với các tiếp viên và nhân viên phi hành.” Không cần biết thực trạng chích ngừa của quý vị, quý vị  PHẢI  đeo khẩu trang che mũi và miệng trong suốt thời gian trên máy bay, xe buýt, xe lửa, hay bất cứ phương tiện di chuyển công cộng nào khi đi du lịch, trong và ngoài lãnh thổ Hoa Kỳ, và trong khuôn viên của các trạm hay bến như phi trường, nhà ga. Bác Sĩ Regina Chinsio-Kwong,  Phó Ủy Viên Đặc Nhiệm Y tế Quận Cam phát biểu: “ Với các ngày lễ sắp đến, chúng ta đều biết rằng sẽ có nhiều người đi du lịch, và tụ tập thành nhiều nhóm, điều này có thể gia tăng khả năng lây lan COVID-19 từ người này sang người khác. Is Punta Cana’s Crime Rate High?

According to Numbeo, Punta Cana has a moderate safety rating of 52 out of 100–comparable to places like Denver in the United States or Liverpool in the United Kingdom.

Crime statistics emitted by the Dominican Security Data Analysis Center (CADSECI) state that there were 41 homicides in La Altagracia province—where Punta Cana is located-–in 2022.

Of these, only two occurred in hotels, and zero occurred on beaches.

In 2021, there were 13 armed robberies in the province. 

In 2023, the homicide rate dropped from 4% to 3% in La Altagracia. 

According to the Eastern regional director of the National Police  in La Altagracia, crimes other than homicide were down by 270%.

Besides petty theft, hardly any crimes in Punta Cana target tourists specifically.

Most crimes in the Dominican Republic occur in five main provinces: Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Puerto Plata, Santiago, and San Cristobal.

In fact, over 10 million visitors traveled to the Dominican Republic in 2023, with an estimated seven million visiting the resort towns of Punta Cana.

Although violent crimes do occur, tourists are most likely to encounter petty theft.

This Latin American tropical paradise is considered a safe destination, but not all locations in the Dominican are advisable to visit.

The U.S. State Department has issued a level 2 travel advisory for the Dominican due to the higher crime rates in recent years, especially in major cities and urban areas like the capital, Santo Domingo.

Is Punta Cana Swimmable?

Absolutely! Punta Cana’s beaches are famous for their incredible white sand, turquoise waters, and elegant coconut palms.

Some of the best beaches to check out include Playa Blanca, Juanillo Beach, Playa Bavaro, and Macaco Beach.

Super budget travelers may be able to drop costs to an average of $116 per person per day.

Punta Cana hotels vary from $45 to $406 per night, with an average cost of $167.

There have been reports that foreigners have been pickpocketed during the daytime while walking in residential districts, so take particular care in remote areas, especially at night.

If you need information about the entry requirements to the Dominican Republic, you need to contact the embassy, high commission or consulate of the country. All visitors need a tourist card which can be obtained from the Embassy of the Dominican Republic or at the airport when you arrive, to enter the Dominican Republic. The tourist card is valid for 30 days. It can be extended by paying for an extension when you leave the country.

The official currency of the Dominican Republic is the Dominican peso. You can easily exchange money at banks or official exchange offices and do not try to exchange it on the street no matter how better the exchange rate is. It is advised to exchange only small amounts of money at a time to avoid any inconveniences. Be very watchful when withdrawing cash at an ATM. There might be some places that accept US dollars, Euros, Canadian dollars, British pounds, but it is a bit cheaper to pay in Dominican pesos.

The tropical climate is the constant weather and an average temperature of 26°C makes Punta Cana a perfect destination all year round. The hottest season is from April to November, while from December to March evening temperatures are around 20°C. This is the area where very little rainfalls.

Punta Cana International Airport offers flights to and from many large cities in the world. It has numerous facilities as well as air conditioning. It is one of the busiest and best-connected airports in the region. Another airport that can be used as an alternative when coming to Punta Cana is the Aeropuerto Internacional de Las Américas, located in Santo Domingo.

Travel Insurance

Since there are risks of wild animals and mosquitoes with the Zika virus, travel insurance is a must when coming to the Dominican Republic. Do not risk, because medical issues might happen to you here. The crime rate is also high, so make sure that your insurance covers luggage theft as well.

Hello, Thanks for your words. Was concerned about safety, granddaughter wanted to go to Nickelodeon. Only if there is one somewhere else.

Why somewhere else? GO. It is one of the safest places in LatinAmerica. Jesus, I hear things like this here in NY from people that live in freaking NYC. NYC is 50 times more dangerous, and people walk carelessly there. Punta Cana, on the other hand, is full of private businesses with private housing, with private security on top of public security where anything bad that could happen would be bad PR. GO. If you don’t believe me, just pull up Punta Cana’s statistics and compare them to any city you want.

Never Again

When I was there in 2005 it was very anti American. Also our travel agent told us last year she booked many to Punta Cana and they all got food poisoning. She won’t book there anymore.

I won’t go back.

Just returned Wednesday from a family wedding week in Punta Cana. We had a 3 mo. old, an 18 mo old, 3 year old and 7 year old in the group.

To my knowledge none of the children had health problems. Two adults (including groom) had intestinal problems that lasted only 24 hrs and 2 older females (including myself) developed severe rash, itching, burning, raw skin patches, low grade fevers, higher blood pressure and needed to seek Urgent Care when returned to US.

The symptoms began on the 3 rd day there for each of us (different days) and got worse each day. We were put on strong anitibiotics, prednezone, Prescription strentgh allergy meds and over the counter and prescription ointment for sores, open sores.

The rash was the worst anywhere your sweat glands were most active.

I did not go into the ocean until the 3rd day, and the reddish seaweed with the little bulbs on the end were everywhere.

Not sure if that was the problem. To date no one else in the party of 30+ has reported problems. Never went off resort property.

I had a similar issue in another location that was near the ocean. I was told that I like came into contact with a contaminated surface and given the area of the rash, the bacteria was likely within the sheets. I can’t remember what it was called but it cleared up after a few days. Punta Cana was fine for me though, I recently got back and had no issues with a rash whilst staying.

I am to the party every day.

Fantastic vacay destination

I had a wonderful experience in Punta Cana.

I rented an Airbnb about 200 yards from the water. The people were friendly and I felt safe the whole time I was there. The people are so friendly and helpful.

I’m not sure what they base their information on, but the description above is inaccurate. I spent 7 days there and would go back in a heartbeat.

I wouldn’t stay at a resort, but a private home near the beach is wonderful. I never got sick, didn’t drink the water and ate at the restaurants on the water.

i’ve been to punta cana three times and stayed at different resorts and felt safe (bavaro) there were armed guards at the entry points and leaving points.i spent most of my time within the resort,the food was good,the staff were friendly,the rooms were kept clean and had a small frig that had liquor and soft drinks i took a boat trip to an area where i was able to snorkle and was able to see a shark and sting ray in a cage.the staff aboard the boat were alert and attentive to those of us that snorkled. i’m going back very soon.overall rating 4.5.

VERY GOOD, also, Not Dangerous at all

There is no place safer than Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I am a Data Scientist, dominican-american. I visit Punta Cana almost once a year. Even if you wander off from your hotel/resort, you will be fine. Why?

1-Because the area has 414 hotels/resorts: An example would be Punta Cana Group’s Foundation, this foundation not only makes sure there is private security starting from far away from anything they own, they also create schools, employ, and pay college tuition for thousands of kids around the edges of Punta Cana, that might not have much money. Keep in mind: this is only one hotel group, there are 414 hotels/resorts in Punta Cana protecting their interests.

2-Because the area has residentials of people that are high middle class up to the wealthiest in the country: If you wander off from your resort only miles out, say 30 minutes out, the security is pretty much the same. Yes, the streets are “public”, but they are also kind of not. You see, Punta Cana City, or Punta Cana “Downtown”, or any of those names they’ve come up with, is completely full of private residences. Most of these residences are on planned communities that maybe only 8% of all Dominicans could ever afford to live in. Because of this, each little community has private security. And each of these private securities are at least 15 armed private guards going around, doing turns, stopping people.

Those 2 points I made, and I have not yet mentioned something important: the province’s police. There is a consortium of companies that PAY the Police to literally have way more resources than any other Police Station in the country. Do you have any idea what would happen if a half-rich or rich kid from Punta Cana’s families suddenly gets hurt, or more intense, disappears? Or maybe, do you have any idea of what would happen if the directives of all these tourism companies start losing money because of bad PR because tourists in their city are getting robbed? Ho ho ho, that is not happening. To put it simply, these robbers would be *hunted*, the same way you hunt a deer. Here are the statistics of the police http://www.oscrd.gob.do/ . You won’t find Punta Cana on the statistics, because it is so low.

So, is it safe? It is definitely safer than NY, where I life, and I live in Scarsdale, which is supposed to be one of the safest neighborhoods near the city.

Now, I’d like to make a comment on something grammyS said, that she/he had to wait until going to the US to go to urgent care. I’d like to start saying, if it is urgent, why didn’t you visit a hospital in Punta Cana? Next is, was it because you think dominican Doctors are bad? Because to that I’d say, most Dominican Doctors graduate college in DR and go to their Residency (specialty) training in the US. Why? Because of how incredibly competitive it is to match in DR (not a lot of open seats every year for ANY specialty). So, you basically have a US trained Doctor in PC, specially in PC, where the Doctors are kids that come from rich families, that could afford to send their kid to study medicine in the Capital or in Santiago (because there are no Med Schools in Punta Cana), and that after that had to sent their kids to the US to do their residency program after passing the USMLE Step 1. Then, they go back to DR. I know this because I brother graduated Med School, and is now doing his Urology residency here. It was surprising to me, that I went out to eat with him and his friends, and ALL his friends were the same one he studied medicine with in DR. They explained it was EASIER to get into a residency program in the US than to try your luck in DRs matching system because of the lack of seats. Also, a cousin of mine (lives in Florida), had a son. His son has these allergies, and Pediatrics in Florida didn’t want to give him medicine. Not because they didn’t really want to, but because it was not completely necessary, and specialists in the US are afraid of lawsuits like crazy, to the point of practicing defensive medicine. So my cousing simply took a flight to our country, and visited a Pediatrics specialist. Boom, in 1 days the kid stopped coughing. The Ped told my cousin that those same meds are 13 times more expensive in the US, if a US Ped would have the balls to give them to a kid (and he knows because the Ped he visited in DR did his specialty in: Florida). LMAO.

Anyways, guys, are you sick? Just go to the Doc and stop the prejudice. Do you want to see something more than your resort? Go, nothing’s gonna happen to you, SPECIALLY in Punta Cana.

I love your review and reply! I am going with a group of 14 adults from Western Pennsylvania. The group I’m traveling with is much more “bougie” than I. I like to get out of the compound (resort) and wonder into the local communities while on vacation. Everyone is worried I’m going to wonder off and become a “statistic”, or a victim of a crime. Literally my boss said the only reason they’re coming is to keep an eye on me 😂

Coco Bongo Punta Cana, Macao beach and the Caroles golf course are just 3 great places to visit and go to while here. There are plenty more, plus nice hotels and restaurants with great food. Try the La Yola restaurant, you’ll thank me later ;)!

Heavenly beautiful

We’ve vacationed here five times already, it’s that good! I’m the type that won’t come back to a location unless I liked everything and Punta Cana checked all the boxes, from the locals to the staff and the myriad of resorts and hotels.

We generally tip very well and if your budget allows, please do so, they will be more than happy to reward you with even better service and tips on how to get the most out of your trip. The first time we got there we didn’t leave the resort and to be honest, we didn’t feel like we missed on something. We read, had daily massages, sunbathed like there was no tomorrow and drank all the cocktails we wanted.

Downtown Punta Cana you will find a lot of stores that sell anything from delicacies to memorabilia.

We booked our trip to surrounding areas online before, experience taught me that hotel staff tend to recommend tour operators that they get along with/know better which means you don’t always get the best deal.

The Philippines, for example, is not the best place to leave your resort and explore as you might 1. Get in trouble 2. End up losing precious time as there’s not very much to see around, depending where you’re staying.

Just to touch on a hot subject: several years ago there were some incidents regarding some tourist deaths but nothing was confirmed. No location is as bad as the media reports it, things are usually blown out of proportion.

Punta Cana is a resort town that I would label both as fun and entertaining. It’s a great destination regardless if you’re traveling solo or with your family. If this is your first time traveling there I would start with the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino complex, their services are off the charts.

I first started traveling solo internationally long before my career as a professional travel writer began, back in college when protecting my belongings involved keeping a death grip on my airline tickets (remember cardstock tickets?) and cashier’s checks. Amazon reviewers love this crossbody’s multiple zipper pocket options, but I love how easy it is to keep clean. The entire bag is machine washable, which does not hinder the RFID-blocking capabilities in any way. 

Sherpani Geo, Anti-Theft Tote Bag

Although this anti-theft bag is smaller than the average tote, it’s great for storing a 10-inch tablet and perfect for protecting your digital identity with a spacious RFID-blocking pocket built right in. Even better, you can wear it as a tote, a crossbody, or a shoulder bag.

Kroser Laptop Backpack 

There are no less than 13 pockets in this TSA-friendly backpack. Some are mesh, some are zippered, but the most important ones are RFID-blocking. Reviewers obviously love its functionality, but many also mention how comfy it is to wear.

There are a host of clever travel scams that data thieves can use to steal your information. One of the more difficult-to-detect schemes is “juice jacking.”

To commit this crime, scammers could potentially load malware on USB port charging stations. You can find these free stations in busy areas such as airports and the lobbies of hotels.

It is important to note that while “juice jacking” is technically possible, the Federal Communications Commission says there are no confirmed instances where it has been used.

Still, it makes sense to play it safe and use your own portable charger to charge devices.

Enable two-factor authentication

Odds are good that your email, social media accounts, and many apps have asked you to enable two-factor authentication. Make sure you do so before traveling so you can protect your data.

Instead of simply requiring a password, two-factor authentication also asks for a code or PIN. This request is usually sent to another device, such as your phone or computer.

While two-factor authentication doesn’t make your accounts hack-proof, it does provide a bit of extra security.

Back up your data

Securing your data isn’t just about protecting it from a security breach. Instead, you also want to prepare for such a breach in case it happens despite your best efforts.

Backing up information can help you recover if your data is breached. If you're hacked and have to wipe your devices, it helps to have that information backed up safely at home.

So, transfer a copy of this important data to a USB or external hard drive.

Use device managers

An easy way for hackers to steal your personal information is by stealing your devices. The risk of such a theft looms large when traveling, especially to popular tourist destinations.

Change passwords before and after your trip

A strong password is one of the best ways to protect your accounts and information. Changing your passwords frequently works even better.

So, change passwords before you travel to something especially strong. When you return home, change passwords again. That way, if anyone stole your passwords while you were traveling, they couldn’t get into your accounts.

Also, ensure each account has its unique password rather than sharing a single one among all accounts.

Be discrete

While many hackers use advanced, sneaky techniques to steal your data, some hackers use simple tricks like looking over your shoulder and snooping.

Using a VPN can help protect your data, but it won’t stop people from snooping. If you’re using a phone or laptop in public, be careful to shield your screen.

Ensure that people aren’t watching you when you enter sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card numbers.

Ask for a loaner device

If you’re traveling for work or school, consider asking your company or school if it will lend you a work-specific phone or computer so you can protect your personal information.

These devices usually have their own encryption and can be wiped clean of data when you get back home and return them to your company’s IT department.

Keep an eye on your devices

While it may seem obvious, an important way to protect the data on your devices is by keeping an eye on the devices themselves. Don’t leave your phone or computer unsupervised in public spaces, and be wary of pickpockets in popular tourist spots.

Similarly, keep your devices locked in the safety lockbox when leaving your hotel room. That way, no one with access to your room can steal your information.

Limit what you store digitally

Most of our information is stored digitally now, including data associated with our bank accounts and credit cards. However, if you can avoid storing it digitally when traveling, you should.

For example, make sure your devices do not carry lists of passwords or your Social Security number, driver’s license number, or address.

Are you going to Turkey, Egypt or Israel on holiday? The Foreign Office has warned travellers to several countries to monitor advice after an Iranian attack on Israel pushed tension in the Middle East up another notch.

Tension in the Middle East has ratcheted up again after Iran's attack on Israel, as the world waits to see how Benjamin Netanyahu's government will respond. 

With the threat of widening conflict, people due to travel through or over the Middle East may be asking if their plans may be impacted.

On Saturday, flight data showed dozens of journeys that would have travelled over the Middle East turned back after Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles into Israel .

Here is what airlines are saying and the latest safety advice to travellers.

EasyJet scraps Tel Aviv flights

EasyJet has suspended all flights to Tel Aviv over safety concerns.

The budget airline told Sky News it has grounded its flights until 27 October at the earliest "as a result of the continued evolving situation" in the region.

Wizz Air customers could see schedule changes

Wizz Air cancelled flights to Tel Aviv on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 April before resuming its schedule.

But it said customers could experience schedule changes as it closely monitors the situation.

British Airways operating as normal

British Airways - which operates four daily return flights per week between Heathrow and Tel Aviv - said its flights were continuing to operate as planned, but it too was monitoring the situation.

Is it safe to travel to Turkey?

Turkey is a popular holiday destination for people from the UK with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism saying that last year 3.16 million Britons made the journey there, according to Travel Weekly.

Yet, it borders a number of countries that the Foreign Office advises against travel to.

The vast majority of the country is considered generally safe for tourists, with some exceptions.

The Foreign Office advises against all travel within 10km of the border with Syria , and all but essential travel to the Sirnak and Hakkari provinces.

Is it safe to travel to Israel?

Some parts of Israel are considered "red zones" by the Foreign Office, with the government advising against all travel there.

For the rest of the country - including East Jerusalem and Tel Aviv - the advice is to travel only if it is essential.

Tourist Israel says around 220,000 Britons usually go to the country every year and the Foreign Office is advising against travel close to the border with Gaza, within 5km of the border with Lebanon and within 500m of the border with Syria.

The Foreign Office advises against all travel to Gaza and the West Bank.

Can I safely go on holiday in Egypt?

The main tourist areas in Egypt are generally considered safe, including the capital Cairo, cities along the Nile and Red Sea resorts.

Over 1.5 million British Nationals visit Egypt every year, according to analysts Gitnux, and the areas the Foreign Office warns not to travel to include the Governorate of North Sinai, where the Rafah crossing to Gaza is located, and within 20km of the border with Libya.

Check advice on other Middle East states before you travel

Following Iran's attack on Israel, the Foreign Office issued a warning relating to several countries in the surrounding area, telling travellers to check for the latest information.

Included in this are popular destinations like Dubai (visited by more than a million Britons last year according to Travel Weekly) and Marrakech.

"On 13 April 2024 Iran carried out military action against Israel. Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast," the FCDO said in a statement.

The countries covered by the warning include Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Jordan and Oman.

Anywhere else of concern?

Cyprus is near the region and has a large UK airbase but, as yet, there is no change in travel advice to the popular country.

American Airlines pilots raise alarm about safety in new union memo

American Airlines’ pilots union is warning that it’s been tracking a “significant spike” in safety and maintenance issues at the airline.

In a memo to its members that USA TODAY reviewed, the Allied Pilots Association’s Safety Committee said it was seeing a trend of tools left in wheel wells after maintenance work was performed, an increase in aircraft collisions on the ground during towing operations, poor recordkeeping and abbreviated check flights after maintenance, among other issues.

“While United Airlines is currently under public and government scrutiny, it could just as easily be American Airlines,” the memo said. The union also said airline employees appear to be under pressure to return aircraft to service in an effort to maintain flight schedules.

In a separate letter to the union’s members that USA TODAY reviewed, APA President Ed Sicher said union representatives have met with American’s management team to address their concerns.

“We secured management’s commitment to involve the union earlier in the safety risk assessment (SRA) process, and we are likewise seeking a commitment that APA will have a seat at the table for the entire quality assurance process,” Sicher’s letter said. It also encouraged members to continue taking advantage of internal reporting tools if they witness safety or maintenance-related incidents.

American told USA TODAY in a statement that safety remains a top priority for the company.

“Safety at any airline is a shared mission and it’s especially true at American," the statement said. "Our robust safety program is guided by our industry-leading safety management system. It includes a multitude of collaborative programs – and regular touchpoints – with the FAA and all our unions, including APA, to further bolster our strong safety record and enhance our ever-evolving safety culture.”
