Bus, train, ferry and flight times, phantip travel, surat thani.

Established in 1970, Phantip Travel is the largest and most successful operator of bus and minivan services between Surat Thani and other destinations in Southern Thailand. Phantip Travel started out providing local transport services within Surat Thani Province, connecting the city, its train station and its airport with the ferry ports for travel to Koh Phangan and Koh Samui and has now expanded to intercity routes and connections to ferry ports in other provinces.

About Phantip Travel

Phantip Travel currently operates services connecting Surat Thani with Khao Sok National Park. Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Krabi, Ao Nang, Phuket, Phang Nha, Railay Beach, Ratchaprapha Dam, Donsak, Hat Yai and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Phantip Travel Bus

There are three reasons Phantip Travel why has been so successful:

  • Value for money: Phantip Travel provides cheap travel services. Some of the vehicles they use are a little bit old, and far from luxurious, but they do the job that they are intended for, which is to take passengers from one location to another.
  • Punctuality: Phantip Travel is a reliable travel operator whose services run to schedule most of the time. Like all transport operators in Thailand they have to deal with unforeseen circumstances but on the whole passengers depart and arrive on time.
  • Partnerships with ferry companies: Phantip Travel don’t operate any ferry services, but they have good working relationships with companies that do. Phantip Travel has focused on connecting passengers with the cheaper ferry services which allows Phantip Travel to offer the cheapest ‘joint tickets’ for travel to and from the islands in Southern Thailand of any of the travel operators in the area.

Phantip Travel Minivan

Recently Phantip Travel has also started to improve its customers services. Staff now all wear uniforms and more of them now speak English. Phantip Travel is starting to look and feel like a major transport operator, rather than a small provincial bus company and we expect this transformation to continue.

Location of Phantip Travel

Phantip Travel has its head office in Surat Thani town centre at 293 / 6-8 Talat Mai Road, Talat Market, Mueang Surat Thani District, Surat Thani 84000.

About Phantip 1970

Company information.

Phantip Travel is a licensed transportation operator from Surat Thani province, Thailand. The company was founded in the beginning of 1970s, hence the name.

The company provides transfer services all over the South of Thailand.

Phantip offers combination packages and joint tickets for hassle-free transportation between destinations which are not served by direct options. These include, e.g. Bangkok to Koh Phangan joint train or bus & ferry tickets or, say, Krabi to Bangkok bus & train combinations.

Phantip’s bus fleet is one of the largest in the country. It consists of over 800 vehicles and is constantly expanding.

The company’s main headquarters is located in Surat Thani and they also have Koh Samui and Phuket branches.

Routes served by Phantip 1970

Phantip Travel services a wide range of destinations in the Thai South. They include both destinations on the mainland – Hat Yai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Railay Beach, Surat Thani, Khao Sok, and islands – Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Phuket, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi and more.

Some of Phantip 1970’s most popular routes are listed below.

Surat Thani to Khao Sok

Phantip buses are arguably the most convenient way to get to Khao Sok National Park in Surat Thani province if you are travelling on your own without a package tour.

The duration of the trip is about 2 hours 30 minutes and there are hourly departures between 7 am and 4 pm in each direction with an option to choose Surat Thani Town, Surat Thani Train Station or Surat Thani Airport as your destination or starting point.

Surat Thani to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan

Phantip 1970 offers bus & ferry transfers to the islands of the Gulf:

  • Koh Phangan

In case of a combination ticket the connection is managed by the company but you still have to make sure you get all tickets or receipts for all connecting trips when booking packaged solutions with advanced payment. If you fail to produce a ferry ticket for your connecting ride, you may be refused transportation. In Surat Thani, there are several pick up points, and that comes very handy no matter whether you arrive from Bangkok to Surat Thani by plane, by train, by bus or have spent the night in the city.

Note that Phantip joint ticket prices for ferry transfers from Surat Thani to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan vary depending on your pick up point – there is about THB150-180 difference between Surat Thani Town and Surat Thani Airport pick up.

Similarly, travelling to Koh Phangan is normally THB100 more expensive than to Koh Samui.

Surat Thani and islands of the Gulf to destinations on the Andaman Coast

Phantip 1970 operate reasonably priced bus service between Surat Thani and

The ride takes 3 and 5 hours respectively.

There are also transfers between Phuket and

  • Koh Phi Phi

All of these are a solid budget choice.

Other minor destinations

The company also offers transfers between minor towns within Surat Thani province including Khanom, Baang Sawan and some others. These departures take off from Surat Thani Talad Kaset 2 (minivan terminal).

Phantip Ferry & Bus Booking

Phantip Travel tickets can be booked online or directly at the company’s offices. Booking online is straightforward with instant confirmation. Tickets to all destinations are very affordable.

Phantip Travel Reviews – Useful Tips

Being among the first on the market, Phantip offers a great choice of routes, has a large fleet and puts a lot of effort to make your journey safe and comfortable.

That said, delays may happen and some travellers complain of reckless driving and driving at extremely high speed – this is a common issue with many operators in Thailand though currently the authorities are trying to apply a stricter control over the operators.

Phantip ferry reviews tend to be on the positive side. Ferries are kept in good condition and the staff insists on passengers wearing life vests. Yet as Phantip uses medium-sized ferries, when the sea is mossy, it is a good idea to have your medication at hand if you are prone to seasickness.

Do check your destination before the ride. As the company has several stops within the same location, e.g. Surat Thani Town, Surat Thani Train Station or Surat Thani Airport, do remind the ride attendant where you are heading. Similarly, when buying your ticket, make sure you are going to be picked up at the destination you want to be picked up.

To get most of your trip, stay realistic – Phantip 1970 services are definitely a fair deal for a fair price.

Surat Thani (สุราษฎร์ธานี) is a city and a province on the Central Gulf Coast of southern Thailand .

Understand [ edit ]

phantip travel surat thani

Surat Thani (often just "Surat") is the largest province of southern Thailand. Surat Thani means City of Good People , the title given to the city by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). It is a gateway to the islands of Thailand's Gulf Coast: Ko Samui , Ko Pha Ngan , and Ko Tao are much-visited destinations, as well as Ang Thong National Marine Park and the famous Khao Sok National Park .

Visitor information [ edit ]

  • 9.133053 99.315283 1 Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) , Talad Mai Rd , ☏ +66 77-288-818 . M-F 08:30-16:30 . The TAT office on Talad Mai Road is the only government tourism office on mainland Surat Thani. TAT has brochures and maps for both local tourist destinations as well as those in other provinces. Clean public toilets are also available free of charge. TAT does not sell anything, they are only there to promote tourism. The other tourism offices around the city (like the one at the airport and the ones near Talad Kaset 1 and 2) are not official tourism offices and will try to sell you tourism packages or ferry tickets. Do not buy anything from these private tourism offices as they are usually offered at an inflated price. For ferry tickets, only buy them directly from the ferry operator or from Phantip Travel.

Get in [ edit ]

By road [ edit ].

Parallel to the railway in a north-south direction runs the Asian Highway AH2 (Thailand Route 41). The major east-west road is Thailand Route 401 connecting Takua Pa with Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Thailand Route 44|Rte 44 goes southwest from Kanchanadit to Krabi. Rte 44 was built as part of the land bridge project connecting the Gulf of Thailand with the Andaman Sea. Unlike other highways there are no crossing intersections. The wide space between the two lanes is reserved for pipelines and a railway.

By plane [ edit ]

As of 2014, the province has two international airports: Surat Thani International Airport in Phunphin and Samui Airport on Ko Samui. Surat Thani Airport is served by five airlines: Thai Airways International (operated by Thai Smile from Suvarnabhumi Airport), Nok Air, Thai Lion Air from Don Mueang International Airport, Thai AirAsia from Don Mueang and Chiang Mai, AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Samui Airport is served by Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways International from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Penang.

Connect by bus or rental car (buy ticket and rent in the airport) to town. Phantip Travel has bus service connecting all flights to Surat Thani. Phantip Travel ( ☏ +66 77 272230 , ☏ +66 77 282331 ) is on Taladmai Rd. Price one-way is 100 baht.

Be vigilant at the airport, or anywhere you are repeatedly asked where you have come from and where you are going. Know what Thai police uniforms look like.

If you're heading to Ko Samui, Seatran Ferry and other companies offer a bus/ferry service from the airport to Nathon Pier on Ko Samui for 400 baht (Aug 2017). It's also possible to book this trip with Air Asia, even while you're on the flight there! They also use Seatran ferry. Travel time is three hours. Buses leave the airport six times per day.

By train [ edit ]

phantip travel surat thani

The province is crossed by the southern railway, with Surat Thani Railway Station in Phunphin, about 15 km from downtown. A branch line to the west ends at Kirirat Nikhom Railway Station. It had been planned to run to the coast next to the island of Phuket, but construction ended in 1956. There are 32 railway stations in Surat Thani Province.

  • 9.104118 99.230552 2 Surat Thani Railway Station ( สถานีรถไฟสุราษฎร์ธานี ), Phunphin District, Surat Thani . The Surat Thani train station, despite its name, is in Phun Phin, about 12 km west of the town centre. Most comfortable are the overnight trains from Bangkok, which arrive in early morning. There are always many who try to catch the tourists and sell them trips to Surat or the islands directly. Usually the most aggressive sellers are the most expensive. However, it's not a big problem to reach the city itself from the railway station. Municipal buses depart the train station for Surat Thani every 30 minutes and cost 20 baht, though the service seems to stop around 17:00. After that, the only option is a taxi, the drivers of which will come in to the station to try and find passengers. If you go outside and turn immediately to the left, there is a taxi stand with taxis charging a fixed price of 140 baht to Surat Thani. The price is clearly indicated on a printed canvas sign attached high up. ( updated Oct 2022 )

By bus [ edit ]

There are 3 main bus & coach terminals in Muang Surat Thani: Talad Kaset 1 , Talad Kaset 2 , and Surat Thani Bus Terminal .

Talad Kaset 1 and Talad Kaset 2 are across from each other, off of Talad Mai Road in the city centre, whereas Surat Thani Bus Terminal is outside of the city off of Highway 401, behind CentralPlaza. Talad Kaset 1 is for local buses to nearby districts. Talad Kaset 2 is for coaches and buses to further districts and popular tourist destinations, such as Khanom, Khao Sok, Krabi, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Hat Yai. The Surat Thani Bus Terminal is for longer haul rides, such as overnight buses to Bangkok.

By boat [ edit ]

The islands Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan are connected with the mainland by ferries , which mostly embark from Don Sak , while the ferries to Ko Tao start at Surat Thani or Ko Samui . There are three main ferry companies that operate from mainland Surat Thani to the islands: Lomprayah , Seatran , and Raja .

There are only two ferry piers in Muang Surat Thani: Tapee Pier , which Lomprayah's High Speed Catarman operates from, and Bandon Pier , which is for night boats only. Seatran Pier and Raja Pier are in Don Sak District, 65 km (40 mi) east of Surat Thani city centre.

Night boats [ edit ]

The night boat ferries are individually owned and operated. Routes can be cancelled without any prior notice. Only buy night boat tickets directly from the ferry operator. The tickets can be purchased the day of departure from the boat operators at Bandon pier. The ticket stands are directly in front of the individual night boats.

The departure times and ticket prices for the night boats can vary as the individual boat and operator are on rotations. For example, the wooden Ko Tao night boat leaves an hour earlier than the metal Ko Tao night boats. Confirm with the operators at Bandon Pier the day of departure. Arrival times are estimates as it depends on the sea conditions.

How to go from Surat Thani to Khao Sok

phantip travel surat thani

Khao Sok National Park is one of the most stunning parts of Thailand, and visitors from across the globe are attracted each year. With impressive limestone cliffs, lush rainforest, and the spectacular Cheow Lan Lake with its deep blue, crystal clear waters, there’s a lot to love. As well as relaxing in some of the most amazing natural scenery on earth, there are plenty of opportunities to go hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, caving, and much more.

Hidden amid the mountains of southern Thailand, you may be wondering what is the best way to get to Khao Sok. Fortunately, the national park enjoys good road connections, and one of the quickest and most enjoyable routes is from the town of Surat Thani. Visitors can fly into Surat Thani, a small but bustling town with plenty of chances for good eating and adventure, from Bangkok.

From Surat Thani, the road to Khao Sok is around 75 miles. It traverses lush rainforest, buzzing roadside markets, and an array of rural villages. Fairly well-paved, the road winds up into the mountains, which results in typical journey times of around 2 hours, giving you plenty of time to take it all in. Here are the best ways to travel from Surat Thani to Khao Sok.

Surat Thani to Khao Sok by minivan

Surat Thani to Khao Sok by minivan

Time – 2 to 2.5 hours Price – $6 – $11 Comfort – 4/5

Traveling from Surat Thani to Khao Sok by minivan is perhaps the most popular method, and for good reason. The vans are modern and comfortable with air conditioning as standard, they’re cheap, and they run throughout the day. Typically 9 or 14 seater vans, they may not be as spacious as a larger bus, and if you have large luggage, you may be required to pay for an extra seat. You can check out the full terms and conditions, as well as compare ticket prices and book online at 12Go.asia .

Well paved roads ensure a pretty smooth journey through spectacular scenery. It does become windy towards the end, so beware if you get travel-sick.

Phantip is the main operator, with minivan services departing from 3 separate locations; Surat Thani Airport, Surat Thani Train Station, and Surat Thani town center, directly from the Phantip travel office. Journey times vary depending on the departure point, though it’ll typically take 2 to 2 and a half hours in total. No matter where you depart from, the vans drop you off at Khao Sok Van station, close to a wealth of choices for accommodation.

From the town center, minivans run every hour, from 08:30 to 16:30. When traveling directly from the airport, vans also depart every hour, from 08:15 to 16:15. Be advised that when traveling from the train station, there are only 3 vans per day; 07:30, 08:30, and 09:30. Tickets cost $6 from the town center, $8 from the train station, and $11 for the airport transfer.

Surat Thani to Khao Sok by taxi

Surat Thani to Khao Sok by taxi

Time – 2 hours Price – $50 – $101 Comfort – 5/5

Travelling to Khao Sok from Surat Thani by taxi is comfortable, flexible, and convenient. The only downside is the cost, which when compared to taking a minivan, is much higher. However, taxis free you from the minivan schedules, and can take you from wherever is most convenient in Surat Thani, to anywhere you like in Khao Sok, which is a bonus if you plan to stay outside of the main area.

Taxis are great for larger groups, and when the cost is split, they’re not really that expensive, especially when you consider the convenience.

There are several taxi companies operating in Surat Thani that will make the journey, including Andaman Taxis, Ramon Transport, and Phantip Charter. Each offers a range of vehicles, from economy class to VIP, as well as 9-seat vans. You can save time and ensure the best rates by comparing your options and booking online at 12Go .

Like minivans, taxi companies operate all over Surat Thani, with many offering direct transfers from the train station or airport to your accommodation in Khao Sok. Another bonus is the fact that you can request to stop off anywhere you like along the way, allowing you to take in sights well off the beaten track. Additionally, for those traveling with young children, child seats can normally be added, either for free or a small fee, just be sure to mention it when booking.

Surat Thani to Khao Sok by taxi and minivan combo

Surat Thani to Khao Sok by taxi and minivan combo

Time – 2 to 2.5 hours Price – $11 Comfort – 4/5

For the best of both worlds, it’s possible for those staying in Surat Thani Town to book a combo ticket, which includes a taxi transfer from any local hotel, to the central bus stop. From here, you can jump on one of the minivans that operate each hour between 08:30 and 16:30. Extremely affordable, this combo ticket can be booked in advance at 12Go.asia .

The combo ticket saves you the hassle of trying to find the bus station on your own, but it’s worth being aware of the small print. Not all hotels are covered by this ticket, and accommodation in the following areas are not within the pickup area: Phunphin, Tha Thong Mai, Hautai, Tha Rong Chang. As with the regular minivan, you’ll be dropped off at Khao Sok Van station.

However you wish to travel, be sure to enjoy the journey and take in the stunning views along the way!

Surat Thani to Khao Sok FAQ

The cheapest way to get from Surat Thani to Khao Sok is to take a minivan from the town center. Minivans depart from the Phantip travel office, the company that operates the minivans. Tickets can be booked online on platforms such as 12Go.asia , with prices starting at around $6. If you’re not staying close to the departure point, you can also purchase a combo ticket, with a taxi transfer from your location to the bus station, for $11.

Taxis are typically faster than minivans when traveling from Surat Thani to Khao Sok, but only marginally so. Since the road is fairly windy, it’s difficult to go too fast, regardless of what vehicle you’re in. However, minivans often stop to pick up and drop off passengers along the route. There are a number of taxi companies that make the journey, and it’s best to book your ticket online at 12Go to take advantage of the best fares. It’s worth bearing in mind that journeys from Surat Thani Train Station are quicker than from the town center or airport.

The only way to get from Surat Thani to Khao Sok is to travel by road. There are a number of taxis and minivans that make this route daily, and you can compare your options at 12Go.asia . The road is about 120km, and it typically takes between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete the journey, depending on the road conditions and mode of transport.

From Surat Thani Airport, there are several direct transfers to Khao Sok. Check online on platforms like 12Go to compare your options. The most affordable option is to book a seat in a minivan, however, these only run throughout the day, hourly between 09:15 and 16:15. For travel outside of this schedule, you can book a taxi transfer to your accommodation in Khao Sok, though the price will be far higher.

Khao Sok is full of exciting things to do as well as being a tranquil place to relax. As such, you could spend a lifetime in this stunning national park and still crave more. From kayaking and ethically visiting elephants, to exploring the rainforest and its caves, you’re spoilt for choice as to what you can do. A week might pass too quickly, while a month may start stretching it a bit. For those seeking tranquility, they can find it here, with long hikes and camping in the rainforest. However, those craving the hustle and bustle may be ready to move on after a week. For most people 1 or 2 weeks will give you enough time to try a lot of new things, as well as relax.

Khao Sok is well-worth a visit for those who love the great outdoors. With many hiking routes through virgin rainforests, climbing and caving opportunities, as well as kayaking and swimming in the mighty Cheow Lan Lake, there’s always something new to do. However, it’s also a great place for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Bangkok or Phuket, and enjoy a little tranquility amid some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.
