The best Miami boat tours

Cruise the coastline and weave through scenic Intracoastal waterways on one of these top Miami boat tours.

Virginia Gil

There are two types of people in Miami: the haves (a boat), and the have-nots ( sigh ). No one reading this is part of the first group, so we can all commiserate here. Yes, there’s plenty to see on land and lots of things to do in Miami , but the fact is if you’re not getting out on the water, you’re doing something wrong. Especially you water signs, we're looking at you.

Luckily, Miami’s best boat tours have something to offer every type of seafarer, from nature excursions to adrenaline-pumping speedboats and DJ’d booze cruises - the perfect thing for a celebration. Many even pull right up to some of Miami’s best waterfront restaurants and bars , just be careful not to fall in the water while boarding! Here are some of our most-loved boat tours in Miami, chock-full of cheesy celebrity spotting, al fresco drinking, and other aquatic adventures in South Florida. Sounds like a great way to spend your break, right?

Best Miami boat tours

Duck Tours South Beach

1.  Duck Tours South Beach

Duck Tours, like the mammals they’re named after, travel on land and water, which is the best way to experience South Beach. You’ll spend part of the 90-minute trip driving through South Beach and the Art Deco District. Then it’s wheels up and into Biscayne Bay for the amphibious vessel. A wise-cracking guide gives you the low-down along the way, including deets on Fisher Island and Millionaire’s Row. Even though food isn’t offered or permitted on board, passengers are allowed to carry on their own small alcoholic beverages.

Speedboat Sightseeing Tour of Miami

2.  Speedboat Sightseeing Tour of Miami

Raise your hand if you like going fast on a boat? Ok, us, too. And this jet boat tour promises just that: 45 minutes of scenic cruising combined with pure adrenaline while you zip, spin and drift across blue coastal waters. You’ll take in the skyline, border the string of islands you’ve only seen from the highway till now and get back to shore faster than the time it’d take you to cross the causeway in a car.

Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi

3.  Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi

The Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi is not only a fun way to see the city, but it’s also a fairly practical transportation method to get around the so-called Venice of America. For a fun route, hop on at Oakland Park Boulevard and work your way to the historic Las Olas Boulevard, bar-hopping at waterfront eateries along the way. Your driver will point out the interesting bits as you pass them, like the Stranahan House, Broward County's oldest surviving structure, or Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffet's booze-themed resort. Since this is Fort Lauderdale, the boats have liquor licenses and will sell you cold, cheap beer along the way.

Miami Millionaire’s Row Tour

4.  Miami Millionaire’s Row Tour

Cruise through Biscayne Bay and experience Miami's water vibes. A local guide will take you along the turquoise water for you to marvel at vibrant architecture and see famous areas like the Port of Miami and Millionaire's Row - you'll see opulent celebrity mansions, too. The tour lasts 90-minutes and cocktails and snacks are available to purchase, too. Sounds incred.

Jungle Queen Riverboat Cruise

5.  Jungle Queen Riverboat Cruise

The Jungle Queen cruise has been operating since 1935, taking folks on a scenic tour of Fort Lauderdale’s winding waterways. And you can still book a trip on the Queen today, in all its original old Florida charm. Do some simple sightseeing or cruise to a private island and watch an alligator show. There’s a dinner cruise as well, featuring barbecue and a live variety show.

Everglades Air Boat and Alligator Tour

6.  Everglades Air Boat and Alligator Tour

Explore the Everglades’ vast and totally unique ecosystem while keeping a safe distance from the crocodiles, snakes and other creatures that inhabit the national park. These flat-bottom boats go fast, like hair-blowing-in-the-wind fast, but that’s part of the fun. Your tour along the River of Grass concludes with an alligator show on land, where you’ll get the chance to pose with a baby gator. We promise they’re totally adorable.

7.  Fort Lauderdale Cruisin’ Tikis Tour

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cruisin' Tikis™ (@cruisintikis)

Imagine a little island tiki hut that succumbed to a gnarly squall, got lost at sea and eventually floated its way up Fort Lauderdale’s New River. Cruisin’ Tikis tours launch from the Historic Downtowner bar and last anywhere from two to four hours. Why ride a boat to a bar when your boat can be the bar? Pack a cooler to bring aboard your private, petite tiki bar on the water. Partying with a larger group? Cruisin’ Tikis has a multi-boat fleet available so you can caravan up and down the river.

Fort Lauderdale Family Pirate Cruise

8.  Fort Lauderdale Family Pirate Cruise

Feel like a real-life pirate as you search for sunken treasure aboard the Bluefoot decked in black skull flags. While the kiddos are treated to an entertaining treasure hunt, adult pirates are invited to hang out at the stern with the captain, who’s a trove of colorful stories about all the mega-yachts and mansions along the shore. Drinking-aged adults are welcome to bring aboard a bit of their own pirate’s grog, too.

Skyline Miami Cruise

9.  Skyline Miami Cruise

Velvet ropes and bouncers can be a real buzzkill. Bypass the trappings of a night out in South Beach with a ride on this party cruise departing from Downtown Miami. The 80-minute cruise by Biscayne Bay and the Venetian Islands features a live DJ, a cash bar, snacks for purchase and plenty of neon lights to keep your lousy dance moves under wraps.

Stiltsville Tour

10.  Stiltsville Tour

Get a rare up-close view of Stiltsville, a curious Miami landmark of colorful, crumbling buildings originally built in the 1920s and '30s in the shallows on the northern end of Biscayne National Park. Available as part of a daily two-hour Biscayne Bay sightseeing tour or customizable as a private tour, you'll be treated to stunning views and authentic stories about the area’s history and culture by your captain, who is also a spirited local guide and longtime Miami resident. You might even spot a few dolphins while you’re out there.

Pontoon Party Boat Tour

11.  Pontoon Party Boat Tour

Pontoon boats aren’t just for relaxed afternoons on the lake, namely because South Florida doesn’t have many of those. But you can have your own adventure on the bay aboard a laidback vessel large enough for you and 9 friends. Your captained tour includes a large cooler containing soft drinks, speakers to connect to and snacks. You'll also have access to paddleboards, jet skis and a floating trampoline for maximum fun.

Boater.PRO.

12.  Boater.PRO.

If you’re not the guided-tour type but you still want to get out on the open water, Boater.pro’s peer-to-peer option might be for you. Like an Airbnb for boats, the site lets you browse available vessels in your area and book them directly from owners. Expect to find plenty of yachts—it’s Miami, after all.

All in all, an excellent experience! Highly recommend!” Ana Catharina, Viator

Big Bus Tours Miami offers a great combo deal if you want to explore downtown Miami by land and by sea. First, you have an open-top bus ride that takes you through South Beach , Little Havana , Wynwood Walls , and other top Miami sights.

After your bus tour, get ready for a 90-minute boat tour operated by Island Queen Cruises to see the houses on Millionaire’s Row while enjoying their fully-stacked bar in either the outdoor upper deck or air-conditioned lower deck.

This is one of the best bus and boat combo deals you can find. An invaluable insider’s tip is to download the Big Bus app after purchasing your voucher and make sure that you book the boat tour in advance. Both tickets are flexible, so you can board the bus within 14 days of the voucher date and then you have 3 days after using your bus voucher to take a boat tour.

Panoramic Bus Tour, Bay Cruise & Everglades Air Boat Tour

Rating: ⭐️ 3.9/5 ( 1491 reviews )

“(…) The big bus tour is nice since you visit all the districts and learn more about the city and you can hop off where you want and hop in later. The bay cruise was incredible. It was our favorite part! We did it at 4pm, perfect to see the sunset.” Caro, Getyourguide

This is another excellent deal from Big Bus Tours that combines not two but three different activities in and around Miami. Along with the city bus tour and boat cruise described in the entry above, you’ll also get a day trip to the Everglades with an airboat tour.

Besides the 45-minute Everglades airboat tour , you’ll also enjoy an alligator and wildlife show with traditional techniques of the native Seminoles, who originally inhabited the region. You might even have the chance to pose for a photo holding a baby alligator!

Although this combo package requires a certain degree of logistical planning to figure out where to go and when, this effort is worth it considering all you get for such a low price. Be sure to download the Big Bus Tour app to make it easier to plan your trips and redeem your vouchers.

Key West Day Trip with Snorkeling & Dolphin Watching

Rating: ⭐️ 4.3/5 ( 257 reviews )

“We saw dolphins swimming wild and free, we snorkeled in clear waters. Captain Lisa and her assistant were nice and knowledgeable and even offered us free drinks! It was a long bus ride back and forth but the views were amazing!” Alyssa, Getyourguide

Enjoy a day trip to Key West from Miami with US2U Tours . You can choose from three different types of tours. The basic option gives you six hours of leisure time to explore Key West on your own.

The two premium Key West tour options include either a 3-hour snorkeling trip with an open bar or a 90-minute glass-bottom boat tour to admire the coral reefs from the safety and comfort of a seaworthy vessel.

Nobody regrets taking a trip to Key West while in South Florida, and this tour is a convenient and cost-effective way to get there. For much less money and effort than renting a car on your own, you can enjoy the scenic ride across the famous Seven-Mile Bridge for a laid-back day on what some people call Margaritaville.

Everglades Day Trip with Airboat Ride & Nature Walk

Rating: ⭐️ 4.8/5 ( 217 reviews )

Join Wild Lime Adventures on a day trip to the Everglades from Miami or Fort Lauderdale. This is a more authentic experience to see wildlife in its natural habitat, not in cages or as part of some animal show.

An experienced naturalist guide will take you and a small group of a maximum of 12 people around Everglades National Park and Big Cypress Natural Preserve to appreciate the unique ecosystem of these wetlands.

This is truly one of the best tours to the Everglades for nature lovers and those who want their trip to be as authentic and eco-friendly as possible. Besides the nature walk, you’ll also visit a historic Miccosukee Indian village and take a one-hour airboat ride to see alligators up close.

Bayride Tours

Most of the Miami boat tours you will find on this list focus on the Biscayne Bay area, traveling around the Miami beaches and mansions in South Beach.

Bayride Tours is no exception, but they offer a much more comfortable ride than you will find on a speedboat tour.

Clocking in at 90 minutes, this Miami boat tour is very informative and relaxing.

You can expect a full cash bar to be at your disposal, allowing you to enjoy your favorite cocktails and beers while exploring the beautiful sights and sounds of Miami.

  • Tickets: $26/Adults | $19/Children
  • Children under 3 ride for free

This service currently enjoys a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars ( read reviews here ). Only a few people have had any problems with Bayride Tours.

Some reviewers say that this is a great option for families, while others absolutely loved the views of the city.

  • $7 off children's tickets.

Not only do they provide very low prices, but they also frequently offer additional coupon codes for an extra 10% - 20% off.

There are many ways to discover Miami, but speedboat tours are definitely one of the most exciting options.

This section will cover each speedy cruise available in the city, as well as ticket prices, the length of each cruise, and what you can expect.

If you're looking to save money on this activity, you can expect to find the following discounts from these companies:

  • Save money on children's tickets.
  • Use a discount site.
  • Book through their website.
  • Group discounts.

Once again, tourist passes and discount sites are the best ways to get a good deal on tickets for Speed Boat tours. You can expect to save up to 50% off normal ticket prices.

Jet Boat Miami

This company places an emphasis on having fun. They tour all around the Miami beach, even taking you near the homes of the rich and famous.

But you can also expect to spend a lot of time going fast out on the ocean.

This is more like an amusement park ride than an informative tour, but you’ll probably have a great time no matter what.

When it comes to this service, in particular, you should expect to get wet, because your captain is going to be pulling off a lot of exciting tricks.

  • $29.95/Adults | $15.95/Children
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Hours: 11 am - 4:30 pm
  • Purchase tickets or learn more.

This speedboat tour currently enjoys a 4 ½ out of 5-star rating ( read reviews here ). Most customers report that this service is very fun and the tour guides are excellent.

The only complaint anyone seems to have is that these boats go pretty darn fast, and it can be a bit too jarring for some riders.

  • $14 off tickets for children.

The two best options for saving money on tickets are either using a tourist pass or using a discount site.

While the tourist pass could save you 50% or more on tickets, discount sites often provide additional coupon codes you can use to save an extra 10% - 20% off, which could bring the price even lower than other deals available.

Thriller Miami Speedboat Adventures

Some Miami boat tours are more of a thrill ride than others. Thriller Miami Speedboat Adventures offers a speedy trip around the city that is both fun and informative.

These speed boats boast a 2200 watt sound system that pumps music while your captain is jumping the waves and pulling off tricks.

When you arrive at each destination, things wind down for a bit so that your tour guide can discuss some of the sights and sounds of Miami's South Beach.

  • $45/Adults | $35/Children
  • Duration: 45 minutes
  • Hours: 10 am - 6:30 pm

Much like their competitors, Thriller Miami has a 4 ½ out of 5-star rating ( read reviews here ).

Some customers said they would take the tour twice if they could, while others described it as the best boat ride they had ever taken!

If you can believe it, the only negative reviews stated that the boat wasn’t as fast as they expected.

Most people seem to think it’s pretty darn speedy, so this is probably an outlier.

  • Included with Miami Sightseeing Pass.
  • Book the first tour of the day through their website and save $10 per ticket.

Without question, the best deal on the Thriller Miami Speedboat tour comes from the Miami Sightseeing Pass .

This tourist pass could save you up to 50% or more on every activity and attraction included.

Speedboat Tours of Miami

If you’re looking for a more personal speedboat tour, this is an excellent option.

While other tours are designed to entertain dozens, Speedboat Tours of Miami provides a more personal approach where seating is limited.

You’ll have to pay a premium for this personalized experience, but considering that the tour lasts about twice as long as other options, it’s well worth the price.

Learn a lot about the Miami area from a local tour guide while you’re having fun out on the ocean in a small, quick speed boat.

  • $139/Adults | $49/Children
  • Hours: 12 pm & 2 pm
  • Not Currently Available as of Nov 2022.

Speedboat Tours of Miami currently has a 4 ½ out of 5-star rating .

Most customers are very impressed with their outing, indicating that their guide provides a lot of information about the area.

There haven’t been many complaints, but those who did have an issue with this service suggested that this is more about the tour than the ride; if you’re interested in a thrilling experience, consider another option instead.

The only deal available for this service is $90 off for children's tickets. If you're coming with children, this could be a good way to save money.

Ocean Force Adventures

There are typically two types of speedboat tours in Miami; the first type is going to be more of a ride than a tour, while the second type is more of a tour than a ride.

That being said, even the more informative speedboat tours are a lot of fun, and you can expect to get a little wet no matter what you do.

Ocean Force Adventures prides itself on providing an incredibly educational experience that will take you off the beaten path and allow you to explore a side of Miami that you might not otherwise see.

  • $150 per person | $139 per person (groups of 4+)

These aren’t really tours, they’re just fun and exciting things to do out on the water near Miami.

In other words, you shouldn’t expect guides to provide any information about the area.

Prices are fairly reasonable for each service, ranging from $35-$50 on average for each activity.

  • $40 per person
  • $89.95 per person
  • $50 per person

  • $48.15/Adults |  $29.96/Youths (4-12) | $10.70/Children (3 and under)
  • Hours: 11 am, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm

Reviews for Duck Tours are very good, and they have an overall rating of about 4 ½ out of 5 stars ( read reviews here ).

Most customers enjoy the tour, reporting their local guide is fun and knowledgeable.

The only complaints focus on the fact that this service is more about having fun than learning about the city.

If you’re looking for a more informative outing, consider another type of boat tour.

  • $37.45 off for kids under 3.
  • $18.19 off for youth between the age of 4-12.
  • 10% off when you purchase tickets on their website.

There are a lot of different ways to save money on tickets for the South Beach Duck Tour, but using a tourist pass will give you the best chance at saving up to 50% or more.

Alternatively, discount sites also offer pretty good rates on this tour, and they often provide additional coupon codes for 10% - 20% off.

Water Taxi Miami

Although this isn’t exactly a tour, it is absolutely worth mentioning.

Miami can have some gridlock when it comes to traditional transportation, so it’s nice to be able to get around in a Water Taxi.

Instead of driving and getting stuck in traffic, you can use these little boats to get from one point to another without any hassle.

Sometimes your captain will even point out a few notable locations in the city, so it’s definitely a great value if you’re looking for an alternative form of transportation in Miami.

  • One Way Tickets: $15 and up
  • All-Day Pass: $30/Adults | $15/Children

With a 4 star rating on TripAdvisor , it’s safe to say that this is a fairly decent service.

Most reviewers report that the Water Taxi can actually be a lot faster during heavy traffic hours.

If you’re planning on taking a self-guided tour that spans across the city, you might want to consider using the Water Taxi to get around.

  • Free for kids 4 and under.
  • Children's tickets (for age 4-12) are discounted.

If you're just looking for a quick trip across the water, the best way to save money will be the fact that their children's tickets cost less than an adult fare.

However, if you plan to charter a boat, this company does offer charter services on discount sites which allow you to save 50% or more off the regular price for this service.

Nice boat cruise, well maintained vessel, practiced crew. The Capt. was excellent boat handler and the guide was bilingual. Nicely stocked snack bar/Bar. Good experience and would recommend. (boat very stable too)

We decided to join this cruise last minute after taking a hop on hop off bus tour. The cruise departure point was near me at the time of being drop off the bus, so it was a quick walk. So Incredibly Special

A guided excursion could take you to the most spectacular place on Earth, but it is the operator who really makes the memory. Feeling safe, having great photography ops, learning the legends and backstory, and finding hidden pockets to explore—these are the nuances of guiding that set great companies apart. And this is what made the experience aboard  Ocean Force exceptional.

Jonathon Irish, National Geographic Traveler

By Far the Best Tour I've Ever Been On

.: It’s easy to come up with superlatives. But the truth is that this is a different kind of tour. ‘Tour’ isn’t even the right word. It’s more like a cruise round Miami with a good friend. And this is exclusively down to the captain. He knows his stuff, and happy to veer off route when a pod of dolphins appeared. It’s simply a jaw-dropping spectacle from the water.

J. Roughetts, UK

The Very Best Miami Beach Boat Tour

The best way to see Miami by sea is aboard one of Ocean Force Adventures’ Zodiac RIB boats. While you cruise through Biscayne Bay, your captain narrates the city’s history from original settlement to cocaine cowboys to Brickell’s boom. And the best bit is Stiltsville!

Captain Mike was super great, patient, and informative! We enjoyed our first experience touring the Everglades a s would recommend River of grass airboat tours to our friends! Thanks for a fun filled tour with lots to see!

I had an incredible experience with The River of Grass tour led by Captain Joe. From the start, the communication prior to the tour was exceptional, providing clear and precise instructions for reaching the boat launch. The airboat itself was a standout, impeccably maintained and noticeably cleaner compared to neighboring tour boats. The ease of entry and exit from the boat, along with the comfortable seats equipped with storage space underneath, made the journey even more enjoyable. Captain Joe's thoughtfulness was evident as he provided us with cold bottled water and hearing protection, ensuring our comfort throughout the adventure. As we cruised through the serene grassy glades, Captain Joe's deep understanding of the ecosystem and his passion for the wildlife and flora were truly captivating. His explanations were not only informative but also delivered with an engaging enthusiasm. The boat ride itself was a revelation - remarkably smooth even at high speeds and during those thrilling sliding turns. The encounter with the diverse wildlife was a highlight, with the breathtaking sighting of alligators stealing the show. Observing a mother and her baby gators up close was unforgettable, and meeting the impressive female gator was a surreal experience. Captain Joe's ability to coax her right up to the boat using his calls and splashes allowed us to take stunning photos and savor an extended, intimate encounter with this majestic creature in its natural habitat. I wholeheartedly endorse this company and Captain Joe for their exceptional service. For anyone considering this adventure, I strongly recommend opting for the 2-hour tour - the one-hour option might just leave you wanting more of this awe-inspiring journey into the Everglades' wonders.

Sightseeing is usually done at a slow pace, but on this boat tour, it is the complete opposite. Once you get onboard, seated down and leave the marina, you will cruise on a good 40mph. Once you get to Fisher and Star Island, you will have a quick stop and the Captain will give a short talk about Miami’s culture and history. Just an advanced information: these islands have the highest per capita income in the entire US and it is not uncommon for billionaires to have a vacation house here.

Duration: 1.5 hrs

For 90 minutes, you will go on a yacht cruise that has a panoramic view of Miami’s skyline. Aside from skyscrapers, the highlight of this tour is visiting the millionaire’s row in South beach. Not all boat tours in Miami are in the ocean. Located 7 miles from downtown Miami, the Everglades is a wetland preserve loaded up with a diversity of life. And to cover the most of this 1.5 million acre wildlife sanctuary, an airboat safari is recommended. On this half-day tour, you will ride on an airboat and traverse along mangrove tunnels and marsh grass. Among the many wildlife taking refuge in the Everglades are turtles, alligators, deer and birds.

Duration: 1 hr

The skyline view of Miami is spectacular and it will be more dramatic if you are suspended high up in the air with parasailing. In this tour, you and your friend will hop onboard a speed boat and head out to the bay where you have a nice scene of Miami’s coast. You’ll be tethered to a chute and as the boat pick up speed, you will ascend up in the air. Once you reach a desired altitude, you will have an amazing view of the Miami skyline.

Duration: 3.5 hrs

Powerboats are littered in Miami and sometimes being a speed junky is too much for someone. If you want to take it slow, sailing will be your best option. In this tour, you will hop onboard an authentic sail boat powered by 100% wind energy. The sightseeing experience in this tour is more calm, slow and without the roaring of large engines. Best enjoyed with delicious snacks which is provided onboard.

Duration: 2 hrs

As the sun sets in, the beauty of Miami starts to glow as neon lights up. In this boat tour, you will hop onboard minutes before sunset and you will journey out the bay. Once out, you will see how Miami’s skyline illuminates with the lights coming from hotels and skyscrapers. This is on top of passing luxury vessels displaying their maritime beauty and elegance.
