Are Gratuities Included in MSC Drink Packages?

MSC Meraviglia, Galleria Meraviglia

One common question that arises when considering MSC drink packages is whether gratuities are included. Well, the good news is that all MSC Cruises pre-paid drink packages already include 18% beverage gratuities. This means that you don’t have to worry about paying extra for gratuities when you purchase a drink package. The gratuity is already factored into the package price, simplifying your onboard experience.

Can One Person Get a Drink Package on MSC?

MSC Seashore

Many solo travelers wonder if they can purchase a drink package solely for themselves on MSC Cruises. Unfortunately, MSC Cruises requires that drink packages be booked by all guests occupying the same cabin and traveling together. This policy applies to both adult guests and minors. So, if you are traveling alone, you will not be able to purchase a drink package specifically for yourself.

Are MSC Cruises Drink Packages Unlimited?

MSC Cruises incredible pizza

One of the key benefits of  MSC Cruises drink packages  is that they offer unlimited beverages throughout your cruise. This means that you can enjoy as many alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as you like each day. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing cocktail by the pool or a glass of wine with dinner, you can indulge in your favorite beverages without worrying about additional costs.

However, it’s important to note that there is a limit to the number of drinks you can order at once. MSC Cruises has a policy that guests are only allowed to order one drink per order. This is to ensure responsible drinking and to prevent guests from becoming intoxicated. While you can certainly enjoy multiple drinks throughout the day, you’ll need to place separate orders for each one.

So, while  MSC Cruises drink packages  offer unlimited beverages, there are some limitations to keep in mind. Make sure to pace yourself and drink responsibly, respecting the rules set by the cruise line. By doing so, you can fully enjoy the convenience and variety that the drink packages have to offer.

Pros and Cons of MSC Drink Packages

MSC Drink Packages Guide (2024) | 24

When considering whether to buy an MSC drink package, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons. Here are some key factors to consider:

1. Convenience: One of the main advantages of an MSC drink package is the convenience it offers. With a package, you have access to a wide variety of beverages throughout your cruise without having to worry about individual costs or keeping track of a bar tab.

2. Cost savings: For those who enjoy indulging in a range of drinks, purchasing a package can potentially save you money compared to buying drinks individually. This is especially true if you plan on consuming alcoholic beverages, as the cost of cocktails, beers, and wines can add up quickly.

3. Variety of options: MSC offers several different drink packages, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your preferences and budget. From basic packages that include soft drinks and non-alcoholic beverages to more inclusive options that cover premium cocktails and wines, there is something for everyone.

1. Upfront cost: While drink packages can save you money in the long run, they do require an upfront investment. Depending on the package you choose, prices can range from $49 to $100 per person, per day. This cost may be prohibitive for some guests, especially if they don’t plan on consuming a significant amount of beverages.

2. Drink preferences: It’s important to consider your own drink preferences when deciding whether a package is worth it for you. If you primarily stick to non-alcoholic beverages or have specific preferences for certain types of drinks, you may find that a package doesn’t offer enough value for your individual needs.

3. Port days: Another factor to consider is whether your cruise itinerary includes a lot of port days. If you plan on spending a significant amount of time off the ship exploring the destinations, you may not have as many opportunities to take advantage of the drink package.

Ultimately, the decision of whether to purchase an MSC drink package depends on your individual preferences, budget, and cruise plans. Consider the convenience, potential cost savings, and variety of options offered by the packages, as well as any potential drawbacks, to determine if a drink package is the right choice for you.

Tips for Choosing the Right MSC Drink Package

Sailings On MSC Meraviglia From New York City

Choosing the right MSC drink package can enhance your cruising experience and ensure that you have the perfect beverages to suit your preferences. Consider the following tips when selecting your drink package:

  • Know your drink preferences:  Take some time to think about the types of beverages you enjoy. If you’re a fan of premium cocktails, wines, and beers, the Premium Extra Package may be your best bet. However, if you prefer simpler drinks like soft drinks and classic cocktails, the Easy Package or Easy Plus Package might be more suitable.
  • Consider the duration of your cruise:  The length of your cruise can play a role in determining the most cost-effective drink package for you. If you’re embarking on a shorter cruise, it might be wise to opt for a less expensive package that still includes your favorite drinks. On longer cruises, you may want to indulge in a more inclusive package to enjoy a wider variety of beverages.
  • Take your planned activities into account:  Think about the activities you have planned onboard. If you’re someone who enjoys lounging by the pool and sipping on refreshing drinks, a package that includes frozen cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages might be ideal. Conversely, if you plan on dining at specialty restaurants and indulging in premium beverages, a more comprehensive package will offer greater value.

Worth It? Complete Guide to MSC Cruises Drink Packages

Sailing on MSC and ready to really go on vacation? Then you might start with a drink package . Instead of worrying about the price of your bar bill, you can pay one set daily fee and get your drinks included for the entire cruise.

MSC ship at Ocean Cay with lighthouse

On the surface, the MSC drink packages are pretty simple. You pay the daily cost, and you get to drink your fill of whatever you want. However, with any drink package there are always a lot of options, fine print, and caveats.

To help you sort through the details and make sure you get the right deal for you, we’ve covered all the ins and outs of MSC’s drink packages below. This includes how to figure if the package is worth it for your cruise.

In This Article...

What Drink Packages Are Offered on MSC?

Following a revamp in late 2021, MSC has a total of five drink packages. Of these, three are alcoholic packages and two are non-alcoholic.

Alcoholic Packages MSC offers several different options for those wanting to drink their fill of cocktails and beer on the ship. This includes the Easy Package, the Easy Plus Package, and the Premium Extra Package.

Easy Package: This deal offers selected drinks aboard the ship. Your options are somewhat limited, but it does include some beers, well cocktails, house wines, soft drinks, juices, bottled mineral water, and coffees. (A sample of the included drinks is shown later in this article.)

Easy Plus Package: A step above the Easy Package is the Easy Plus Package. This package offers drinks up to $10 per glass. Here you’ll find a much wider selection with cocktails, wines, and beers, as well as sodas, juices, energy drinks, and more.

Premium Extra Package: MSC’s top-of-the-line package is called Premium Extra. With this package (which is also the most expensive) you get drinks by the glass up to $16 each. This package is the most similar to drink packages found on other lines where you have the widest number of options across the ship. If you want a beer, cocktail, wine, specific brands of liquor, water, coffee, energy drinks, juices, and more, it’s almost surely included in this offer.

Non-Alcoholic Packages MSC also has two non-alcoholic packages that feature drinks across the ship that don’t have alcohol. This includes non-alcoholic cocktails, soda, energy drinks, juice, water, coffees, tea, and even ice cream. They are known as the Alcohol-Free Package and the Minors Package . These appear to have the same beverages offered, but a cheaper price for those under 21 sailing from the United States.

How Much do MSC Drink Packages Cost?

Each of the packages has a different cost, ranging from as little as $21 per day to $104 per day at last price check. Note that prices can change at any time. You’ll see the latest prices when you book your cruise.

The most recent pricing we’ve seen is:

  • Easy Package: $49 per person, per day
  • Easy Plus Package: $64 per person, per day
  • Premium Extra Package: $88 per person, per day
  • Alcoholic-Free Package: $30 per person, per day (21+ years old); $21 per person, per day (3-20 years old)

As well, you receive a 15% discount if you purchase the package before sailing. That means you can save a substantial amount if you simply pre-purchase the package ahead of time versus waiting until on the ship.

One note: Unlike other cruise lines, MSC does not charge a gratuity on top of the price of the package. So the price you see is that you pay each day.

Is Gratuity Included? Do I Need to Tip More?

Yes, gratuity is included in the cost of the package, according to MSC. So the price you see is the price you’ll pay.

And once at the bar, you don’t have to worry about additional charges or gratuity. It is already taken care of. You can tip more if you feel generous, but it’s not expected or required.

You should note that if you use the package to buy a drink while in port, you may be charged tax on the purchase.

Do I Have to Buy the Package For Each Day of the Cruise?

Yes. MSC requires guests who want the package to buy it for every day. You can’t purchase for single days. So if your cruise is a week, you’ll be charged for seven days, whether you have 10 drinks in a day or don’t drink anything at all.

Keep this in mind when considering the drink package. If you have a cruise with several days in port, you’ll still pay for the package even if you are off the ship and don’t use it (with the exception of Ocean Cay, where the package works on the island).

Also note that the package is not charged for debarkation day when your cruise arrives back home.

Does Every Person in a Cabin Have to Buy It If One Person Does?

Yes. MSC says that all guests sailing in a cabin must purchase the drink package if one person does. According to the terms posted on MSC’s website :

“Packages must be booked by all guests occupying the same cabin, and who are traveling together and wishing to dine at the same table. This includes minors, for whom the Minors Package must be booked. Packages are not obligatory for infants under three years of age.”

This is likely designed to limit sharing (one person buying the package and then getting drinks for someone without the package).

It’s important to note that this extends to kids as well. So if you are traveling with a minor that is three years or older, then you will have to purchase the non-alcoholic beverage package for them. There is a $21 cost for those under 21 years old.

Kids under three don’t have to get a drink package.

What’s Included/Not Included in the Packages?

Each package is different in what it does and does not include. You can view the complete list of what’s included for each package on MSC’s website .

Here’s a breakdown for each:

Easy Package (select drinks) Includes one brand of draft beer (Heineken) and/or bottled Miller Lite, well cocktails and non-alcoholic cocktails, house wines, soft drinks, juice, bottled mineral water, coffees, and hot chocolate.

Note: The Easy Package can’t be used in specialty restaurants. No drink packages can be used in MSC’s “signature venues,” which it says include “Venchi 1878 establishments, Lavazza Coffee Shops, Jean Philippe Chocolate, Coffee, Crepes & Gelato, Starship Club, Hola! Tacos & Cantina.”

Easy Plus Package (Up to $10 per drink) The Easy Plus Package includes everything in the Easy Package above, but has more options given the higher price ceiling. You’ll find a wide array of beers (around 20 beers, compared to two in the Easy Package), more cocktails, more wine by the glass and liquors. Specialty coffees, energy drinks, and canned soft drinks are also included. As well, drinks in specialty restaurants are available with this package.

Premium Extra Package (Up to $16 per drink) If you want the traditional drink package experience where you get your run of practically anything on the ship, then the Premium Extra Package may be ideal for you. It covers drinks on the ship up to $16 per glass. So you get any beer on the ship (as with the Easy Plus offer), most liquor brands, cocktails across the menu (including high-end cocktails), specialty coffees, juices, energy drinks, and more.

Alcoholic-Free/Minors Package If alcohol isn’t your thing or you are sailing with kids, then you might be interested in the non-alcoholic package. It offers non-alcoholic cocktails, sodas, energy drinks, juices, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

This package doesn’t apply to the specialty restaurants, unless it’s for a minor whose group purchased the Easy Plus or Premium Extra alcoholic package.

Does the Drink Package Work on Ocean Cay?

Coconut drink on MSC's Ocean Cay

Ocean Cay is MSC’s private island ( see our complete guide to the island here ), and yes, the MSC drink package works on Ocean Cay just as it does on the ship.

Since cruises aboard MSC from Florida typically include a stop here, it’s an extra day that you can get your money’s worth from buying the drink package. Simply head up to any of the numerous bars on the island and place your order.

One thing to keep in mind is that the menu on the island may be slightly different than what’s found on the ship.

Is There a Daily Limit on How Many Drinks I Can Get?

There is no mention of a daily limit on drinks mentioned with the packages. That said, if you appeared overserved, then don’t be surprised if the cruise line decides to refuse service.

Be sure to mix in some waters with those margaritas during your cruise!

I Bought the Free Drinks & Wi-Fi Offer. Which Drink Package Do I Get?

Currently, MSC is running an offer with drinks and wi-fi included with your cruise. In the case that you book this, you will be provided with the Easy Plus Drink Package (which offers drinks up to $10 per glass).

What Drinks Are Available With the Easy Package? What About Drinks $10 and Under for Easy Plus?

While the Easy Package is attractive at just $49 per day, many people wonder what alcoholic drinks are available. This used to be for drinks priced $6 or under. Now MSC labels the package as including “select drinks.”

According to the chart on MSC’s website, this includes a “draft beer” and Miller Lite, house wines, well drinks, as well as classic cocktails, mixed drinks with well spirits.

To give you a better idea, of what that means, below is a menu with low-priced simple mixed cocktails like a Moscow Mule, Long Island Iced Tea, Mojito, and more that would be available. These are the sort of drinks that would be included. Take a look:

As for beers, most are priced at $7.50, but you can get draft Heineken with the Easy Package.

Your options are much greater under the Easy Plus Package that includes drinks up to $10. Here you get a much wider selection of beers and cocktails, as well as the ability to get drinks with name-brand liquors. For example, beers like Budweiser, Dos Equis, Sam Adams, Guinness, and Blue Moon are included (along with many more).

As well, you get more liquor brands as well. Just one example is that while the Easy Package offers well whiskey, the Easy Plus package offers brands like Crown Royal, Jim Beam, and Johnnie Walker. You also get more cocktail choices, like Contemporary Classics:

As for the $10 limit, that seems to have the largest impact on the cocktails and wines by the glass. There, the limit does come into play on some more unique/high-end cocktails and more expensive wines. For instance, the cocktails shown below would not available with the Easy Plus Package, but are with the highest-end Premium Extra Package:

What if I Buy a Drink Above the Dollar Limit for the Package?

Say you really want to try the Mango Mojito — priced at $13 — but only have the Easy Plus Package that’s good for drinks up to $10. Do you have to pay full price?

On MSC, you are given a discount and only pay the difference between the per drink allotment and the menu price. So in this case, you would only pay $3 for the higher-priced drink.

The discount is $8 per drink for the Easy Package, $10 per drink for the Easy Plus Package, and $16 per drink for the Premium Extra Package.

Who Is Each Package Best For?

Not sure which package is right for you? The three options are very different, which can make things a little confusing.

Easy Package: The most restrictive package, we’d suggest this offer for people who don’t mind a smaller number of options. The unique, fancy cocktails aren’t included, but you can get classics like Rum & Coke, or a Moscow Mule. House wines, fountain sodas and premium coffee are also included. So if you aren’t a big alcohol drinker or don’t need a lot of variety, then this package might be good for you.

Easy Plus Package: This package is best for beer drinkers and those who favorite mid-tier liquors. One of the biggest differences between the Easy Plus and Easy Packages is the beer lineup. The lower-tier Easy Package has only two alcoholic beers included. The Easy Plus offer has more than 20 included.

As well, there are more name-brand liquors available for drinks, including Jameson, Tito’s, Captain Morgan, 1800 Reposado, and dozens more. However, some menu options (specifically cocktails) are over the $10 per glass limit, restricting choices somewhat. Even so, you’d still be able to find something that you like given the number of choices.

Premium Extra: If you’re looking for the classic drink package experience where you have nearly everything on the ship included, then you’ll want the Premium Extra. Not only do you get what’s included in the Easy Plus Package, but there are also more liquor brands included. As well, you have the greatest number of cocktail options included, as well as the most wines by the glass. It definitely offers the most options, making it better for those who like “higher end” drinks.

The cost for MSC’s highest-tier package ($88 per person, per day) is in line with what many other cruise lines charge for their packages.

Is the MSC Drink Package Worth It?

For some people the drink package is a great way to save money. For others, it can be a waste as you’ll spend more than you would otherwise. In general, we think many people that buy an MSC drink package will get their money’s worth due to the relatively affordable cost — although the price has increased recently, making the deal a little less attractive than it used to be.

Before you buy the package, it’s important that you do the math and think about how you will use it.

The first thing to do is figure out what sort of drinks you’ll want on the cruise and how many per day.

Beer drinker? Most beers run about $7-8 each. If you plan to drink five a day, then that’s $35-$40, compared to the $64 per day for the Easy Plus Package (price before the cruise) that’s needed to purchase them.

Cocktail prices vary widely, with some well drinks being $7-8, but many more options available in the $10-14 range.

But you also don’t want to forget other drinks that you might have, including non-alcoholic drinks. To give you an idea of what things cost, we have general prices below that we’ve seen:

  • Beers: ~$7-$8
  • Cocktails: ~$7-$16
  • Soda: ~$3.50
  • Juice: ~$3.50
  • Energy Drinks: ~$4.50-$5
  • Bottled Water (Spring & Sparkling): ~$3.25-$6.50
  • Coffees: ~$3.00-$5

Beyond considering how much you will drink each day, consider the number of ports of call on your cruise. Remember that you can’t use the package while off the ship, unless you are visiting Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island. There, you can use the package on the ship while it is in port.

If you’re the sort of person who likes to get out and explore, then that’s a lot of time that you won’t be able to use the package.

Finally, remember that if one person buys a drink package, then everyone in the cabin has to buy it. So if you are a couple and one person drinks and the other doesn’t, then it’s going to be much harder to get your money’s worth.

The drink package rule also applies to kids that are three years and older. Be sure to add in these costs when making your decision on if the package is worth the money.

To help you plan, we put together a drink package calculator that you can use to estimate what you’ll spend.

Thanks for your article. Some questions for you about easy package: 1) Include alcoholic aperitives? (Bacardi Breezer and similars) 2) Include any cocktel with chocolate licor or any licor of chocolate or cream similar to Bayleys? Thanks for all!

Does MSC offer any non-alcoholic beverage (water, juice, soda) as part of the price? What happens if you don’t buy the drinks package? Is there any beverage included as part of the rate?

There is a 15 drink limit only for alcoholic beverages on Princess.

My partner mostly drinks prosecco. What level of package do we need to gdt so the prosecco is included?. I am happy to drink whatever is going 😉

How much are the ice creams and soft drinks for?

I am looking at the MSC Australia website. It says the easy plus package is $560 per adult. Is this Australian currency or USD

Could you provide the 2023 price list for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks in order to figure out if is worthed or not to buy any of the beverage packages?

Headed on MSC in a couple of weeks. Will offer some update soon after!

There is a liquor store available on a ship. Can we purchase and consume?

No. The duty-free store that sells alcohol will package it up and hold it for you until the last night of the cruise.

If one of the guests in the room is pregnant could they get the nonalcoholic and the other person get the drink package? I know I will probably need to call just curious if it’s an option or no because the same room

You’ll need to call, but at least with other cruise lines this is usually possible.

On Princess all adults must purchase a beverage package in the same cabin even if its a soda or coffee package to go with another guest beverage package.

We have booked a cruise that includes the Easy Plus drinks package. I will probably pay the additional amount for the Premium Extra Package…. Will my wife have to upgrade also? She is more than satisfied with drinks on the Plan included?

Oh, that one I’m not sure about. If you find out, would you mind sharing what happened?

Good Day (once again), We have an Easy-Plus package, can you tell me if the drinks in the mini-fridge in our room are included with our drink package. Thank you

They are not.

We are leaving this Sunday on a 7-night MSC cruise. We prepurchased the Easy Plus Package. My travelling partner is concerned that the well drinks will not be of good enough quality. Do you have any way of checking which brands are included in each of the higher level packages? Thanks.

Sure, check out this page:

https://www.msccruisesusa.com/on-board/dining-drinks/drink-comparison-chart

Hello, thank you very much for the info. Just 1 quick question, I know the drink package works on Ocean Cay, but just to make sure, does the easy plus package works w/ the smiling fish and coffee bar (specifically the coffee bar)?

Hi, is it true that there’s a limit of how many times you can drink with the drink package? I heard 15 times per day??

On Carnival/Princess, there is a 15 drink limit. We know of no such limit for MSC.

Tanner, if my drink package includes up to $15 alcohol and I order $17 alcohol, will I be charged the difference in price or the full $17?

That I’m not sure about. I will be sure to ask the next time I am on MSC!

I have seen a few youtubers in the recent sailings confirming that MSC does it differently. It charges full price, not the difference.

I personally has never sailed w/ MSC before, but do have a sailing coming up in a few months, I can double check.

Thank you so much for posting the individual prices on drinks, Tanner. You’ve helped me decide not to get a drink package. Makes no sense being off the boat at excursions all day! Am I understanding this correctly- I’m cruising to Spain, Italy, and France and if I buy a local wine during the day, I can’t come back and enjoy it on my very expensive balcony in my very expensive room at night because they will confiscate said wine until the end of the cruise? (side eye on this).

That’s my understanding, however, rules may be different in Europe!

Can we buy a bottle of wine per day or do we need to pay by the glass?

Which drinks package applies from South Africa to Venice if anyone knows?

Can you bring non alcoholic drinks on board that you purchase in port? (Ie. Juice/soda) Is there a fridge in the room to keep drinks?

To my knowledge, MSC doesn’t allow you to bring on beverages. So if you bring them, they will be held until the end of the cruise and returned. There should be a small fridge in your cabin.

Hi there, what drinks are included in the free drinks and wifi package?

We have an Easy Plus Package included with our cruise, and have prepaid the “Hotel Service Charges”. Will we still have to pay the 15% Bar Service Charge every time we have an alcoholic drink over and above what is included in the package price?

No, that 15% is already included.

We’re about to go on our cruise in a couple weeks and have one question I haven’t seen yet. While coming from different places across the US and even out of the US, we’re meeting up with five other couples that are family or friends. We’ve been able to arrange us being grouped for dinners together. One couple in the group believes this means ALL parties (2 per cabin) would be forced to buy the same drink package. Any idea?

Did you all buy your cruise as one group or separately? I would think that the requirement to buy the package if another person does would apply only to those in the same cabin, or at most those who bought the cruise together. So if all the couples purchased cabins apart from each other, I doubt you’d have to all get the package.

We all booked individually and have our own booking numbers. I have tried talking to MSC on the phone and get disconnected when the initial people can’t answer without speaking to someone else. I haven’t received any calls back either, pretty sure all my information is in front of them on their computer screen. Anyway, too late to book a drink package at this point so I’ll have to wait until we board to ask in person. I will update this thread to help any others that have the same question.

If all of you are going to seat at the same table all of you must have the same drink package. You can find this exactly information at msc website.

Any updates on this Brad? Thx!

I believe its house wine in the package. I would be nice to know what is there house wine

Does MSC check your bags before boarding after a shore excursion?

Yes, every cruise line checks when you return to the ship.

Which brand is the energy drink thats included in the package? thank you.

Not sure on that one. Will check the next time onboard.

REd Bull 250ml

Do any of the packages include the cabin mini-bar? If not, is there price list available?

MSC says the mini-bar is not included in any packages.

Hello. If I have the easy plus drink package it seems to cover drinks up to $9. If I want a more expensive drink a time or two, does MSC allow you to get it with the package and pay the difference?

I believe MSC has a different policy that means the entire drink costs extra. So a $12 drink costs $12, not $3. However, that might have changed.

So just to be 100% clear, you don’t have to buy a drinks package with them, you can just purchase as you want if you aren’t a big drinker?

That’s correct.

I would check into this. I did some research, and it appears that you can purchase dinks on the ship. You have a gratutity added to the price. The drinks package has this already included. Trust me, they do not want to leave money on the table. If someone wants to buy something from them, they will allow it. Again, I would reach out directly to MSC to ask just to be sure.

What about if i want just rum nd no coke, thats the tricky part. They put more coke than rum and the the drink is undrinkable.

This may be where finding a bartender, tipping them well at the beginning of the cruise, and then going back to visit them may help get a drink mixed how you like it!

Can you take you bring your drink in the pool? And can you drink while sitting down watching a show on the auditorium?

Sure. In fact, there are bars at the pool.

If you have the Easy or Easy Plus drink package, and you want to get a drink on the premium list, do you have to pay the full list price? Or do you get any sort of discount?

I believe it is full price, however, not 100%. Haven’t done it personally and heard conflicting things.

This was really helpful, thank you! I was wondering can one person in the room get the easy package and the other person get the easy plus package? Or do they both have to get the higher option?

What drinks are included with NO package purchase?

Basic drinks like water, tea, coffee and flavored drinks.

hi, great read thank you just a few questions if you buy a drink either water coffee or beer can you bring to your room? how do they know what package you are on do you have a card? if you buy no package and just buy as you go do you have to tip? is water free any where on the ship with out any package or is it only by bottle and has to be paid for ? surely they have to supply water ? thanks again

– Yes, you can bring drinks back to the room – Your card may have a sticker on it, or when they scan it, the drink package will show up – If you buy as you go, a gratuity will automatically be applied to the menu price – You can get water around the ship. The easiest place is the buffet, but you can also get a glass from the bars.

Would it be easier to either bring a refillable bottle with you or just purchase a bottle of water and then refill it? Also, I read that the water is mineral water. So, wouldn’t that be different from distilled or spring? Would kids balk at the taste?

I’d suggest just bringing a refillable bottle. Holds more than the little cups you get at the buffet and you don’t have to head to a bar for a bottle each time.

I read that the kid’s package also includes soft server ice cream. Is that true? Also, when can you choose the drink packages (how many days after you reserve your cruise)?

Yes, it included soft-serve ice cream.

Are you not able to reserve? How long is your cruise? I’ve had the same issue and a call to MSC told me that you couldn’t buy a package before if the cruise was under 4 days long. (Mine is 3 days).

It’s not showing up, but maybe it’s because the cruise isn’t until March of 2024. So, they are probably waiting to publish the packages closer to sailing.

Can you purchase a drink package on a 3 day cruise

Yes, should be available.

no-minimum 4 days to be able to buy a drinks package

Thanks a lot for this complete review on the drinking package. Just realized they are not worth it. Saved me a lot of money. =)

I think the biggest part that may not make it worth it is having to get a drink package for the kids. My kids don’t drink soda or energy drinks. I don’t think it’s worth it for us, but we have until May to figure that out.

There are 3 of us sailing, The Mrs with me and the Grand daughter. We are not interested in the drinks packages for ourselves but can we purchase the kids one just for the Grand daughter. T.I.A

This is the most detailed and probably up-to-date breakdown of MSC drink packages I have seen. Makes a lot of sense now and I know what I’m getting myself into now. Thank you!

If you buy the Easy Package and you want to buy a $10 drink, can you? If so, are you charged $10 or the difference, $4?

Our understanding is that MSC charges the full price for a drink over the package limit. So in your example, you’d be charged $10.

Thanks for this great information. The most complete and concise explanation and comparison.

Drinks like Mud Slide, Bahama Mama, Miami Vice are they the Easy or Premium package?

You’ll want the higher package. The drinks on the Easy Package largely consist of simple two ingredient cocktails like rum and Coke, Cape Cod (cranberry vodka), etc.

Hello, so i know that each person in the cabin has to order a drink package. Will my husband be able to buy the Premium drink package, myself the Easy drink package and our daughter (19) the soda package? Regards, Rhonda

I believe you and your husband will need to get the same level drink package. Since your daughter is under 21, she can get the soda package.

When I was looking at ordering the drink package, it made me select the same drink package for me and my wife. They kids had to get the minors package.

What kinds of wines are included in the easy package.

Great question. I just looked through all the photos of menus taken onboard and don’t see a wine list anywhere.

I do notice that MSC makes no mention of wine in the Easy Package, but they do in the Premium Package. It could be that you need to have the Premium Package to have wines included.

i see in the basic non alcholic package it references coffee isnt coffee free in the buffet room

Yes. It likely means premium coffees.

Are MSC Cruises drink packages unlimited?

Like many other cruise lines , MSC Cruises drink packages are unlimited. This means that guests can enjoy an unlimited number of both alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages each day. However, guests are only allowed to order one drink at a time. Further, MSC Cruises does have the right to refuse service due to intoxication.

What are the MSC Drink Packages?

MSC Cruises currently offers five different drink package options. These cruise drink packages include the Easy Package, Easy Plus Package, and Premium Extra Package. There are also two non-alcoholic options, the Alcohol Free Package and the Minors Package.

Easy Package

What is the Easy Drink Package on MSC? This is the cheapest MSC Cruises drink package. This option entitles guests to a limited number of alcoholic beverages including house wines by the glass, draft beer, a selection of craft cocktails, mixed drinks, and non-alcoholic cocktails. There is a separate section on the bar menus for guests with this package.

It also includes soft drinks, fruit juices, bottled water, and classic hot drinks (espresso, cappuccino, latte, and hot tea).

This package covers all of the above served in bars, the buffet, and the main restaurant, as well as on the private island of Ocean Cay. However, it does NOT cover drinks in specialty restaurants or signature venues like Venchi 1878 or Jean Phillippe Chocolate, Coffee & Gelato.

Easy Plus Package

The Easy Plus Package covers all beverages priced up to $10 . This includes frozen and classic cocktails, well spirits, liquors, and cordials, select wines by the glass, a wide variety of draft and bottled beers, and non-alcoholic cocktails. This package also includes soft drinks, bottled water, coffee drinks, hot chocolate, and hot teas.

Additionally, guests get a 10% discount on bottled wines purchased onboard the ship.

The Easy Plus Package works at all bars, the buffet, the main dining room, and specialty restaurants, as well as Ocean Cay. However, it does not work in signature venues either.

MSC Seascape Cruise Ship Scorecard Review

Premium Extra Package

The Premium Extra Package is the most inclusive of the MSC cruise drink packages. This package covers all drinks up to $16 . It includes an extensive variety of frozen and classic cocktails, and premium brand spirits, liquors, and cordials. Additionally, guests can enjoy a selection of wines and champagnes by the glass or a 25% discount on bottles of wine and champagne.

This package also includes all draft, craft, and bottled beers, soda, juices, bottled water, energy drinks, specialty coffee, hot chocolate, and teas.

The Premium Extra Package works at all bars, the buffet, the main dining room, and specialty restaurants, as well as Ocean Cay. However, it does not work in signature venues either.

Alcohol Free Package

This cruise drink package includes a wide choice of alcohol free cocktails, soda, energy drinks, mineral water, flavored water, fruit juices, coffee drinks, hot chocolate, and hot teas.

This package does NOT work in the specialty restaurants or at signature venues. Yes, this means that if you purchase this package, you can’t even order a soda while enjoying dinner in the Butcher’s Cut.

MSC Drink Prices

Below are a list of the sample drink prices on MSC Cruises. You can also check out our  bar menus from a recent MSC Seascape cruise (December 2022) to determine the cost of your favorite beverages.

  • Espresso-Based Beverages- $4.25
  • Soft Drinks- $3
  • Mocktails- $6
  • Energy Drinks- $4.95
  • Gatorade- $4.25
  • Cocktails- $7.50-$12
  • Signature Cocktails- $14-$16

Are the drink packages on MSC worth it?

This is a question that only you can answer. Essentially, the question is whether you will consume enough beverages to make the purchase “worth it”. Knowing your drink preferences, onboard drink prices, and typical consumption, you can estimate whether or not you would hit the “break even” price point.

Other considerations include the length of the cruise and how many ports of call are on the itinerary.

For instance, will you be able to sustain the same drinking pattern over the course of a 10-day or 14-day cruise? If your cruise is port intensive, will you be on the ship enough to make good use of your drink package?

Overall, cruise drink packages certainly do offer convenience, as you never have to worry about the bar tab at the end of the cruise! Still, you should weigh the pros and cons for yourself before you decide to purchase one or not.

Of course, if you wish to forego a beverage package, you can always pay a la carte for your drinks purchased on the ship.

Ultimate guide: msc cruises drink package options.

' src=

As an experienced cruiser, I understand that selecting the perfect beverage package can significantly improve your onboard experience. This is why I’m presenting you with the ultimate guide to the drink package options offered by MSC Cruises.

From the Easy Package to the Premium Extra Package, MSC offers a range of choices for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. With detailed information on inclusions, limitations, and recommendations, as well as tips for making the most of your package, you’ll be able to decide which option is perfect for your drinking preferences and consumption habits.

Table of Contents

Key Takeaways

  • MSC offers a variety of drink packages, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.
  • The prices of the drink packages range from $30 to $88 per person, per day.
  • The packages have different inclusions and limitations, such as drink selection and access to specialty restaurants.
  • It is important to consider your drinking preferences, cruise duration, and individual consumption habits before purchasing a drink package.

Alcoholic Drink Packages

I’m considering purchasing the Easy Plus Package because it includes specialty restaurants and drinks up to $10 per glass. When it comes to drink package pricing, it’s important to consider the benefits that these packages offer.

With the Easy Plus Package, not only do you get the convenience of having your drinks included, but you also have the freedom to choose from a wide variety of beverages. From house wines to classic cocktails, this package allows you to indulge in your favorite drinks without worrying about the cost.

Additionally, the inclusion of specialty restaurants means that you can enjoy a delicious meal paired with your preferred libation. The Easy Plus Package truly offers great value for those who want to have a hassle-free and enjoyable drinking experience during their cruise.

Non-Alcoholic Drink Packages

The Non-Alcoholic Drink Packages offered by MSC include a variety of refreshing options such as soda, energy drinks, and alcohol-free cocktails. These packages are a great choice for those who prefer to abstain from alcohol or simply want to enjoy a wide range of non-alcoholic beverages during their cruise.

One of the benefits of opting for a non-alcoholic package is the cost-saving aspect. Compared to the alcoholic drink packages, the non-alcoholic options are generally more affordable.

Additionally, non-alcoholic packages offer a healthier alternative, allowing guests to stay hydrated and enjoy a variety of refreshing drinks without the effects of alcohol.

Whether you’re looking for a soda to quench your thirst or a delicious mocktail to sip on, MSC’s non-alcoholic drink packages have you covered.

Cost and Inclusions of Drink Packages

Pricing for the drink packages varies based on the duration of the cruise and the type of package selected. When comparing the prices of the MSC drink packages, it is important to consider the benefits of purchasing a drink package.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

Drink Package Pricing Comparison:

The Easy Package is the most affordable option at $49 per person, per day.

The Easy Plus Package is priced at $64 per person, per day and includes drinks up to $10 per glass.

The Premium Extra Package, priced at $88 per person, per day, offers a wide selection of drinks up to $16 per glass.

Benefits of Purchasing a Drink Package:

Convenience: With a drink package, you can enjoy unlimited drinks without worrying about the cost.

Cost Savings: Purchasing a drink package can be more cost-effective than buying individual drinks throughout the cruise.

Variety: The different packages offer a range of drink options, allowing you to try new beverages and enjoy your favorites.

Additional Information on Drink Packages

When considering the drink packages, it’s important to note that there is no daily limit on drinks included with the packages. This is one of the advantages of purchasing a drink package with MSC Cruises. Unlike some other cruise lines, MSC does not impose a daily limit on the number of drinks you can enjoy.

This means that you can fully indulge in a wide variety of beverages throughout your cruise without any restrictions. Whether you prefer classic cocktails, premium brand drinks, or non-alcoholic options, MSC offers packages to suit every preference.

In comparison to other cruise lines’ drink packages, MSC’s offerings are relatively affordable and provide a generous selection of drinks. So, if you’re looking to enjoy unlimited beverages and maximize your cruise experience, purchasing an MSC drink package is definitely worth considering.

Choosing the Right Drink Package

As a passenger, it is important to consider your drinking preferences and habits before selecting the right drink package for your MSC cruise. The duration of your package will also play a role in your decision.

If you enjoy a variety of alcoholic beverages and plan to indulge throughout your cruise, the Premium Extra Package might be the best option for you. This package offers a wide selection of high-end drinks and cocktails.

On the other hand, if you prefer classic drinks and don’t need as much variety, the Easy Package could be more suitable.

Additionally, if you are a non-drinker or traveling with minors, there are non-alcoholic packages available.

Take the time to evaluate your preferences and the length of your cruise to ensure you choose the package that best fits your needs.

Types of MSC Drink Packages

I personally found the variety of drink packages offered by MSC to be appealing. When it comes to drink package options for families, MSC has you covered. They offer different packages to suit various preferences and budgets.

The benefits of purchasing a drink package are numerous. Not only does it provide convenience and peace of mind, but it can also save you money in the long run. MSC offers packages for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, ensuring that everyone in your family can find something they enjoy.

From the Easy Package, which includes basic drinks like water and coffee, to the Premium Package, which offers a wide selection of premium brand drinks and cocktails, there is something for everyone. Purchasing a drink package allows you to indulge in a variety of beverages throughout your cruise without worrying about the cost adding up.

It’s a great way to enhance your vacation experience and make the most of your time on board.

Pricing, Restrictions, and Tips for Drink Packages

The pricing for MSC’s drink packages varies depending on the duration of the cruise and the specific package chosen. When comparing drink package prices, it’s important to consider the value you will receive.

The Easy Package is generally the most affordable option, followed by the Easy Plus Package and the Premium Package. The Kids Package is usually priced lower than the adult packages. Purchasing drinks individually without a package can be more expensive in the long run.

It’s also worth noting that some cruise lines may have restrictions on the purchase of drink packages for cruises shorter than a certain duration. When evaluating the value of drink packages, consider your drinking preferences and habits. If you are not a big drinker, purchasing drinks individually may be more cost-effective.

Be sure to check the specific inclusions and exclusions of each drink package before making a decision.

Making the Most of Your Drink Package

When it comes to maximizing the value of your MSC drink package, there are a few key strategies to keep in mind.

One of the best ways to make the most of your package is by exploring the variety of drink options available in MSC’s Premium Extra Package. This package offers a wide selection of premium brand drinks and cocktails, allowing you to indulge in higher-end beverages throughout your cruise.

Additionally, don’t forget to take advantage of MSC’s private island, Ocean Cay. The drink package can be used on the island, so make sure to enjoy a refreshing cocktail or beverage while lounging on the pristine beaches.

Considerations Before Purchasing a Drink Package

Before purchasing a drink package, it’s important to carefully evaluate your drinking preferences and calculate the potential cost and value of the package based on your expected consumption.

MSC Cruises offers a range of drink packages, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. The pros of these packages include convenience, as you don’t have to worry about individual drink prices, and the ability to try a variety of drinks without breaking the bank.

However, there are also cons to consider, such as the limited selection in lower-tier packages and the requirement for everyone in the cabin to purchase the package.

When compared to other cruise lines, MSC’s drink packages are relatively affordable, but it’s important to do the math and consider your own drinking habits to determine if it’s worth it for you.

As we delve into the next section on environmental sustainability, it’s important to acknowledge the strides that have been made in creating a greener and more sustainable cruising experience.

Environmental Sustainability

When it comes to environmental sustainability, it’s crucial to consider the green initiatives implemented by companies and the impact they have on ecosystems.

MSC Cruises, for instance, has taken significant steps towards reducing its environmental footprint by implementing various initiatives such as advanced waste management systems, energy-efficient technologies, and the use of eco-friendly materials onboard their ships.

These initiatives not only help preserve the delicate ecosystems that the ships visit, but also contribute to a more sustainable and responsible approach to cruising.

Green Initiatives Implemented

The newest MSC cruise ship has implemented various green initiatives to reduce its environmental impact. These initiatives include installing energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the ship, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. They also involve implementing advanced waste management systems to minimize waste and increase recycling efforts. Additionally, the ship utilizes state-of-the-art water treatment systems to ensure that wastewater is properly treated before being discharged back into the sea. Another initiative is the incorporation of solar panels on the ship’s exterior to harness the power of the sun and reduce reliance on traditional energy sources.

These green initiatives not only showcase MSC’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also contribute to protecting our precious ecosystems. By reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste, and treating wastewater, the ship’s impact on ecosystems is measured and reduced. The implementation of these initiatives demonstrates MSC’s dedication to preserving the natural environment and ensuring a sustainable future for cruising.

Impact on Ecosystems Measured

Utilizing green initiatives, such as energy-efficient lighting and advanced waste management systems, helps minimize the impact on ecosystems. To ensure that our efforts are effective, we also prioritize impact measurement and ecological assessment.

By conducting regular assessments, we can determine the extent of our impact on the environment and make necessary adjustments to further reduce any negative effects. These assessments involve evaluating various factors, including carbon emissions, water usage, and waste production.

Through this comprehensive approach, we can identify areas where improvements can be made and implement strategies to mitigate our ecological footprint. By continuously monitoring and measuring our impact, we can strive for continuous improvement and work towards a more sustainable future.

MSC Cruises Drink Package Calculator – is the drink package worth it?

We’ve created this handy  MSC drink package calculator  to help you decide whether or not purchasing a drink package on your next cruise is the right choice.

  • Read : MSC Cruises Drink Packages Explained!
  • See: MSC Cruises Bar Menus with Prices

How to calculate your beverage costs on MSC Cruises

  • Choose your package. The daily charge will appear in the daily charge space, but you can change that if you are getting a discount.
  • Select your length of cruise. You’ll notice how the cost increases according to the cruise length.
  • Choose the number of drinks you consume, or expect to consume each day. We’ve put the average drink price in the cost fields, but you can modify those if you like more expensive drinks (it’s worth looking at the MSC Bar & drink menus )
  • The calculator will do the math and tell you if it is worth purchasing a package (or upgrading) based on your consumption!

Start by choosing a package

You can override the daily charge by entering an amount. Do this if you get a special rate from a travel agent or with a promotion.

Easy Package includes:

Specific drinks listed on the easy drink menu (found here).

These drinks are sort of “vague” in some respect, so definitely look at the MSC Drink Menus article , where there is a unique menu for the Easy Package.

The Easy Package covers all of the above served in the bars, buffet and main restaurant as well as Ocean Cay and other exclusive destinations. This package CANNOT be used in specialty restaurants.

Easy Plus Package includes:

Bottomless beverages priced up to $10 all day long.

The Easy Plus Package can be enjoyed in the bars, buffet, main restaurant and specialty restaurants , Ocean Cay, and other exclusive destinations.

Premium Extra Package includes:

Premium beverages priced up to $16.

The Premium Extra Package can be enjoyed in the bars, buffet, main restaurant, and specialty restaurants as well as Ocean Cay and other exclusive destinations.

Estimate Your Daily Consumption:

Each field contains the average price found on most MSC ships in US Dollars.

Remember! Any drink not within your package limit, you pay the overage cost plus the service charge! If you tend to drink nicer wines or cocktails, you can adjust the average price of each beverage in the corresponding boxes! This helps give you a more accurate idea of your possible spending. (15% gratuities on European, Emirates, South Caribbean, Red Sea, South America (Brazil and Argentine) and Far East itineraries, and 18% gratuity on North America itineraries.)

Each field contains the average price found on most MSC ships. For the Premium Extra package, all drinks up to $15 are included. If you tend to drink nicer wines or cocktails, you can adjust the average price of each beverage in the corresponding boxes – Remember, for anything over the included price, you pay the difference plus a service charge or gratuity (15% gratuities on European, Emirates, South Caribbean, Red Sea, South America (Brazil and Argentine) and Far East itineraries, and 18% gratuity on North America itineraries.)!

Is this still true? “anything not in the package is full price plus a service charge!”?

I’ve read a few places that the drink package give that amount off. Ie. Easy plus is all drinks at/under $9 included and $9 off drinks that are more.

Anyone know? Cruising January on Fantasia.

Rox – Thanks for pointing this out! We failed to update the information on the calculator. Rules changed earlier in 2023. So if you order a drink over the amount allowed by your package you pay the difference plus the gratuity (15% gratuities on European, Emirates, South Caribbean, Red Sea, South America (Brazil and Argentine) and Far East itineraries, and 18% gratuity on North America itineraries.)

The EASY Package is weird. For example, even though it includes Heineken beer, you cannot just pay the difference for a different bottled beer. You WILL pay the full price for that beer. But Cocktails and mixed drinks, they credit you (I PRETTY SURE) $8 per drink. I’m going to confirm this, with MSC and edit as needed. The Easy Plus Package offers a $10 discount per drink, and the Premium Extra Package offers a $16 discount.

MSC Cruises drinks packages compared and reviewed

MSC Cruises drinks packages compared and reviewed

MSC Cruises is more popular than ever, with the recent launch of the brand new MSC Euribia cruise ship and its reputation for offering value-for-money cruises in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. As you plan your dream vacation on board an MSC cruise ship, one of the most talked about subjects is whether to purchase one of the MSC Cruises drinks packages.

In this article, we will be pouring over the details of MSC Cruises drinks packages, comparing and reviewing the options available. Whether looking for an Easy Package or a Premium Plus Package, we will help you choose the perfect beverage package to maximize your MSC Cruise experience, whichever MSC cruise ship you sail on.

MSC Cruises offers three types of drinks packages: Easy , Premium , and Premium Plus . Then there is also the alcohol-free package and the Minors package.

Quick navigation

The Easy Package

The Easy Package is the most basic and is included in the Bella and Fantastica experiences. It covers a selection of drinks, including house wines, beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages such as sodas and juices. This package costs around €29 per person per day and will most likely cost more if you wait until you are onboard to book.

The Easy Plus Package

The Easy Plus Package is an upgrade from the Easy Package and includes a more extensive selection of drinks. It has everything from the Easy Package plus premium spirits, cocktails, and a more comprehensive choice of wines. It is priced at €39 per person per day, and probably more if you purchase onboard the ship.

The Premium Extra Package

The Premium Extra Package is the most comprehensive drinks package and includes everything from the Premium Package plus premium champagnes and wines. It is priced at €55 per person per day and is a better price if you book before you are onboard.

Alcohol-Free Package

MSC Cruises offers an alcohol-free drinks package that is perfect for passengers who do not drink alcohol or prefer non-alcoholic beverages. The package includes a selection of non-alcoholic drinks such as sodas, juices, smoothies, and mocktails. It is priced at a lower rate than the alcoholic drinks packages, making it a more affordable option for those who do not plan to consume alcohol during their cruise.

Minors Package

MSC Cruises also offers a Minors Drinks Package for children and teenagers under 18. This package includes a selection of non-alcoholic drinks such as sodas, juices, smoothies, and mocktails. It is important to note that the Minors Drinks Package can only be purchased by parents or legal guardians and is only available for children and teenagers traveling with their families. The Minors Drinks Package is an excellent option for families who want their children to access various fun, non-alcoholic drinks during their MSC Cruise.

Comparing the Packages

When comparing the packages, it is clear that the Premium and Premium Plus Packages offer more value for money than the Easy Package. The Premium Package includes premium spirits and a more comprehensive selection of wines, while the Premium Plus Package adds premium champagnes and wines to the mix. However, it is worth noting that the Premium Plus Package is significantly more expensive than the Premium Package.

If you are a wine connoisseur or enjoy premium spirits and cocktails, the Premium or Premium Plus Packages are the best options. However, the Easy Package may be sufficient if you are happy with the house wines and beers.

Are the Packages Worth It?

Whether the packages are worth it depends on your drinking habits and preferences. If you plan to drink alcohol throughout the cruise, the packages can save you significant money. However, if you only plan to have a few drinks here and there, it may not be worth the cost.

So it looked like we saved money. However, as we had the drinks package, we often ordered specialty coffees or an extra fruit cocktail before dinner. Perhaps more so than had we known, we would have paid for each drink on board without a drinks package.

Purchase drinks onboard without a drinks package

If you do not book a drinks package, there are still plenty of options for drinks on board an MSC Cruise. Here are some of the options available:

  • Water is available on board, and it is safe to drink. However, it is not free. You can purchase bottled water on board at bars, restaurants, and vending machines. Alternatively, you can bring your refillable water bottle and fill it up at the water stations around the ship. MSC Cruises offers a range of coffee options, including espresso, cappuccino, and latte. You can purchase these drinks at the bars and cafes on board. Alternatively, you can buy a coffee package that includes a set number of coffees for a discounted price.
  • If you enjoy alcoholic drinks, plenty of options are available on board. You can purchase beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails at the bars and restaurants on board. Prices vary, but they are generally comparable to what you would pay at a bar or restaurant on land.
  • In addition to water, coffee, and alcoholic drinks, various non-alcoholic beverages are available. These include sodas, juices, and mocktails. You can purchase these drinks at the bars and restaurants on board.

It is worth noting that drinks on board can be pretty expensive, especially if you plan to drink regularly throughout the cruise. If you are on a budget, purchasing a drinks package may be worth it, as it can save you money in the long run. However, if you only plan to have a few drinks here and there, purchasing drinks individually on board may be more cost-effective.

Why it’s better to pre-purchase a drinks package

  • Discounts: MSC Cruises often offer discounts on drinks packages when you pre-purchase them before your cruise. These discounts range from 10% to 20% off the regular price.
  • Convenience: Pre-purchasing a drinks package means that you do not have to worry about paying for drinks throughout your cruise.
  • Budgeting: Pre-purchasing a drinks package allows you to budget for your cruise more effectively. You can pay for the package upfront, and then you do not have to worry about any unexpected expenses for drinks during your cruise.

Drink package worth it?

By lasnev , May 31, 2022 in MSC Cruises

Cool Cruiser

Just been debating whether to purchase or not easy drink package.

Hubby drinks occasional glass of wine at dinner, I don't.

We are booked on all day excursions.

We would be using it for mostly water and espressos.

Would anyone have a price list for bottled water and coffees?

Both of us would have to purchase.

I don't want to use it just to get "my money's worth".

Cokes etc, £3

lager £6 for 400ml

bottled beer £6.50-£8 for pint

wine £6.50 for large glass

BUT all individual drinks have 15% convenience charge added

if you can get the drinks package on an offer then anything under £30 is good …you can often get it for £28pppd

If not then buying the packages in advance is still significantly cheaper than buying them onboard (and you avoid the 15% service charge)

on my recent 7 day cruise my package included the premium extra but , apart from when I deliberately chose drinks from the premium extra package, 95% of what I really wanted was in the Easy package, so if you can’t get a great deal on Premium Extra then i would plump for Easy.

we were not heavy drinkers but individually… on an average day…

coffee at breakfast … £3.50 (incl service)

Proper juice at breakfast …£3.50

bottle of water to take off boat … £3

beer with lunch after returning from excursion… £8

mid afternoon cocktail / non alcoholic cocktail … £8

hot chocolate or coke to take back to cabin before getting ready …£3.50

pre dinner vodka/coke or Prosecco …£8

wine with dinner …£7.50

post dinner baileys … £4.50

that comes to £50 per day …for non heavy drinkers!!!

Thank you for the detailed answer.

Are there ever offers/deals on drink packages?

Best offer usually comes at the time of booking. Sometimes 20€ per person per day. UK booking includes water and coffee, so definitely useless to buy the package for " occasional glass   of wine   at   dinner" only.

Does anyone know which red wines come with the easy plus package?

I'm sure it will vary based on supply and where the cruise is, but if the Easy Plus is supposed to cover drinks up to $9, you can look at the wines on this list from Divina (sailing in the Caribbean) that are under $9/glass.

image.thumb.png.f0f0217be8d5da3d1796bd2be834977e.png

So is it my understanding that if one purchases the Easy Plus Package, which covers up to $9.00 drinks, and you purchase a $13.00 glass of wine, will you either 1)  pay the $4.00 difference for the higher priced wine or 2) pay for the whole $13.00 out of pocket?

Other lines I have been on would just charge you the difference.

On 5/31/2022 at 5:35 PM, lasnev said: Just been debating whether to purchase or not easy drink package. Hubby drinks occasional glass of wine at dinner, I don't. We are booked on all day excursions. We would be using it for mostly water and espressos. Would anyone have a price list for bottled water and coffees? Both of us would have to purchase. I don't want to use it just to get "my money's worth". Thank You!

As per your described habits, IMHO, the answer would to be a no. Before the pandemic they used to have a quite inexpensive house wine bottle of both red and white wines, again the same used for Easy packages you could purchase and tell them to save the leftovers for next day. In my case with my parents where only my phather drinks, a bottle may last for 2 or 3 days, that said 3 bottles and eventually a beer for the last night might suffix. MSC has now a non alcoholic drinks package for adults, but, just for coffees and water, you'd need some 10 itens each of you to justify the cost. Only you can decide. I'd to pay as I go, if I only wanted those items. In my case I enjoy a non alcoholic drinks package, but I also enjoy a proper coffee delight for breakfast, a non alcoholic cocktail by sail away, some sodas or juices here and there and a hot chocolate by night. Then yes, it compensate in some ways... But even then: It isn't what it used to be "back in the day"...

It is option 2.  You pay the whole amount, plus the 15% service charge.

On MSC you pay the full price.

Does anyone know what the cost of upgrading from easy package to easy plus is? Easy only has heiniken beer so i would like a bigger selection. Thanks in advance

It depends on your ship & sailing.  If you log into your booking you can see.

On the easy package I understand only Heineken beer is included, does anyone know which red wines are? Based on the above menu it does not list any wines $6.00 or below...

There are 2 red wines included in Easy.

Gelato not included in the Easy Plus or Premium Extra according to the booking information. it specifically excludes ice cream menu, crepes and gelato.

Thanks, I read it too, that is why I was wondering if someone who had sailed recently. 4 yrs ago on the Seaside it was included.

Sadly, lots of things that used to be included in the Premium Plus package no longer are 😞

Ice cream ONLY Included in the Child’s package

22 hours ago, ferretktf said: Ice cream ONLY Included in the Child’s package

Not from the 3rd party vendors onboard (Venchi or Jean Maury) nor from the ice cream bars. Only soft serve ice cream from elsewhere else I never understood very well where exactly. Someone with that experience may to chime in, please?

And yeah... As @Morgsmom  has said; lots of things that used to be available from the packages have already been removed. Back in the lovely days of the "Allegrissimo" drinks package, I used to be able to make my moneys worth only from the non alcoholic part of an already alcoholic drinks package, and that included pretty much everything from a freshly squeezed juice from the Spa bar to a superb ice cream Sunday from the ice cream bar, to not talk about a large menu of some 12-15 non alcoholic cocktails available pretty much everywhere on the ship (now they have some 5-8 if that much, some of them really very basic or uninteresting), and those little nothings that are bottles of water, sodas with meals, etc. I surely understand the need to reduce costs and to avoid the abusers... But... We, the regular happy honest cruisers are paying both the losses from bad accounting to the losses coming from the abusers... I don't feel the drinks packages as being as worth it as they were in the past... So, I'll only to purchase one if a good promotion is on order, or there is a reasonable number of sea days on my sailing... Otherwise I will go with flow, paying item per item, then, I can splurge on the "premium" 3rd party vendors products, while making my costs controlled...

The ice cream included in the child’s package is from the ice cream parlour at the Atmosphere Pool.

ice cream from third party vendors was never included in the package on virtuosa

Hi, is anyone able to tell me what beers are included with the Easy Plus package? I'm trying to find a list, but having no luck. Thanks!

Nevermind...I just found it.  😀

20 hours ago, CTGirl74 said: Nevermind...I just found it.  😀

Where you find it. I'm also trying to find out what's included in the easy plus. Cocktails such as Miami vice and mudslides? Are they included?

MSC Cruises hikes beverage package prices, starting this summer season

msc cruises usa drink packages

MSC Cruises is raising prices for its drink packages, becoming the latest to hike fees for onboard amenities in recent months.

The line began selling packages at the new prices on Monday, which apply to cruises sailing summer 2023 schedules and beyond. The summer season generally begins in April, though exact dates vary depending on the sailing and ship, according to a spokesperson for the line.

The Easy package, which includes select classic cocktails, house wines, soft drinks and more, will cost $49 when purchased in advance for sailings between one and six nights and $46 for sailings seven nights and longer. The package costs $38 when purchased before a cruise.

Can travelers still find cruise deals?: Yes ... for now

Cooking at sea: Regent Seven Seas will sail 11 new culinary cruises through 2025

When purchased on board, that package will cost $60 for sailings one to six nights and $57 for seven or more nights, up from $44, including gratuity. MSC previously added a 15% gratuity to beverage packages purchased on board but has rolled them into the base price as part of the changes.

How much did MSC raise prices for other beverage packages?

The Easy Plus package, which includes all drinks priced up to $10, will cost $64 when purchased ahead of time for cruises one to six nights and $61 for those seven nights and longer. The package costs $49 right now.

When bought on board, that package will be priced at $76 for cruises for one to six nights and $72 for sailings for seven or more nights, up from $56.

The line's Premium Extra package, which includes all drinks priced up to $16, will run $88 for cruises between one and six nights, and $85 for sailings seven or more nights when purchased ahead of time, an increase from $69.

The onboard prices will be $104 for one-to-six night voyages and $100 for those seven nights and longer. The price is $79 right now.

How much did MSC raise prices for nonalcoholic, kids beverage packages?

The price for the line's Non-Alcoholic package will also increase to $30 when purchased in advance for cruises between one and six nights and $28 for seven nights or longer, up from $25.

The onboard purchase price will be $35 for cruises between one and six nights long, and $33 for those seven nights or more. The current price is $29.

The Minors Package, which includes sodas, energy drinks and more, will cost $21 when bought ahead of time for cruises between one and six nights, and $19 for sailings seven nights and up. The current price is $17.

If guests purchase the package on board, the price will be $25 for sailings one-to-six nights long, and $22 for cruises seven or more nights, up from $20.

Other cruise lines raise prices

The changes come as many other cruise lines have raised prices in the wake of inflation and the industry's continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic . Lines such as Carnival Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line have also increased fees for beverage packages, and many have increased gratuity prices .

Is it cheaper to buy a drinks package on board? Here's what cruise passengers should know.

A latte in the morning here, a piña colada by the pool there. On a cruise, ordering drinks can rack up a steep bill before you know it.

Though beverages like water, regular coffee, iced tea and lemonade are generally included in cruise fares, others cost extra. That’s where drink packages come in handy.

The optional add-ons broaden the range of beverages you can order without worrying about incurring charges each time. But they aren’t always worth it, and it can be cheaper to quench your thirst a la carte.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

“What I tell clients is: Do the math on it,” said Rusty Pickett, a travel adviser and owner of Shellback Cruises.

What do cruise drink packages include?

“Each cruise line has a different package system,” Pickett said. The packages typically range from more limited soda or coffee packages to those that cover a wide range of alcohol and other drinks.

Carnival offers a Bottomless Bubbles package that includes sodas and juice. The line’s Cheers! package includes those, plus spirits, beer and wine by the glass priced at $20 or less, specialty coffee and more (guests can order only one drink at a time and are limited to 15 alcoholic drinks in 24 hours). Carnival also offers wine-specific packages.

Be sure to read the fine print, too, because there are often restrictions. On Royal Caribbean International ships, for example, beverage packages exclude drinks served in licensed Starbucks stores.

How much do cruise drink packages cost?

Beverage packages are typically priced per person, per day and sold for the duration of a cruise. Starting prices vary but can range from $10 to $15 for soda and specialty coffee packages to upward of $100 for those that include alcohol. Pickett also noted that a number of lines have raised drink package prices in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aforementioned Cheers!, Carnival's most comprehensive package, starts at $59.95 per person, per day, while the Bottomless Bubbles package starts at $6.95 for kids and $9.50 for adults. During a recent cruise on the line’s newest ship, Jubilee , cocktails at new venues Dr.Inks, Ph.D., and The Golden Mermaid were priced at $14 a la carte, plus an 18% gratuity charge. Beverage packages generally include gratuities, Pickett said.

The most I racked up in a single day on Jubilee – for two lattes at the ship's JavaBlue Cafe and Marina Bar; two bottles of water in my stateroom; and one cocktail at the Marina Bar that night (plus additional gratuities I added) – was $34.86.

“When (clients) want to talk it through, it's usually about how much you drink per day,” said Valerie Dorsey, a franchise owner and travel adviser at Cruise Planners. “And if you're only going to have one or two drinks, even at $15 a drink, it's still cheaper than buying a $100-a-day package.”

Mainstream cruise lines may offer lower prices if guests purchase a package advance, according to Dorsey (luxury lines tend to include more in their fares, including drinks). Operators may also bundle them as part of other offers.

Even if not for cost savings, Pickett and Dorsey both said some travelers are drawn to drink packages for the convenience. “They're willing to pay money for not being nickeled-and-dimed when they go up to the bar,” Pickett said.

Does everyone in the cabin need to get the drink package?

Often, all guests of legal drinking age in the same stateroom are required to purchase a drink package if any guest in the cabin buys one, including the Cheers! package and Royal Caribbean's Deluxe Beverage Package .

Can I buy a drink package midcruise?

Even if you don't buy a drink package beforehand, you're not out of luck. Passengers may be able to buy them after they board, depending on when they make the purchase.

Royal Caribbean, for instance, sells drink packages on the first or second day of cruises four nights or longer; for sailings three nights or less, they're sold only on the first day. Celebrity Cruises (also part of Royal Caribbean Group), meanwhile, sells them up until three days before the end of a cruise.

Prices would be prorated on a per-day basis.

Can I bring my own drinks on a cruise?

Yes, depending on what it is. Beer and hard liquor are not allowed , but guests can bring wine or champagne to enjoy during their sailing – though Dorsey warned they will probably have to pay a corkage fee if they want to drink them outside their cabin.

For example, Princess Cruises charges $20 “should guests wish to consume their wine or champagne in the ship’s public areas,” according to its passage contract.

Guests may also be able to bring non-alcoholic drinks like bottled water, sodas and milk, but policies vary by line.

Dorsey also noted that if guests don’t mind going without espresso-based drinks or cocktails, they can opt not to buy a drink package at all. “I say to clients, ‘You don't have to put up extra money on a cruise if you don't want to.’ ”
