“ This was a great day out with our guide Theodore who was friendly and helpful, giving us lots of information about the area and answering all our questions… … The minibus tour was great but the highlight of the trip had to be the boat excursion to Navagio (shipwreck) beach where you get to spend an hour before being taken to the blue caves. I was amazed how far they took the boat into the caves, we were lucky that at one of the caves the water was not too choppy and we were able to take a quick swim here too… … After the boat trip there is a quick lunch stop at a local taverna which was okay – my wife says her prawns were amazing. A quick stop at the oldest olive tree on the island and then back to be dropped if at our accommodation. A thoroughly good day and I felt it was great value. “ GetYourGuide Traveler from UK (Read More  Reviews ) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was a great trip! We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the port, where our captain Stella welcomed us on the boat. We were fortunate to spot the first turtle 5 minutes into the cruise. After a few minutes of watching the turtle, we went for a ride around the coastline. We had a 20-minute stop for swimming. After, we headed to the turtle-shape island Marathonisi to see the caves and for another swimming stop (1h), this time at the beach. We still had a few minutes left on our way back, so Stella showed us Laganas beach. We were very lucky to spot another turtle! When the cruise was over, we were dropped off at our hotel. Our guide Stella told us a lot about islands and her skill behind the stere was very impressive! GetYourGuide PARTICIPANT (READ MORE REVIEWS )

Things to do in Zakynthos Greece - family at the rocky beach

Zakynthos is a beautiful island located in the Ionian Sea, and it’s known for its crystal-clear waters, stunning beaches, and natural wonders. One of the most popular attractions in Zakynthos is Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach, which is known for its picturesque landscape and the rusted remains of a shipwrecked freighter that has been stranded on the beach since 1980. Another must-see attraction is the Blue Caves, which are natural sea caves carved into the cliffs that line the island’s coastline. Visitors can take a boat tour to explore the caves and admire the stunning shades of blue and turquoise of the water. Cameo Island is another popular spot that’s worth a visit. This small and charming island is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of sand, and it’s a perfect place to relax and soak up the sun. Finally, the island’s capital, Zakynthos town, is also a must-see. It has a rich history and is home to many beautiful buildings, including the Venetian Castle, the Solomos and Kalvos Museum, and the Saint Dionysios Church. The town also has a lively nightlife, with many bars and restaurants to enjoy.

Zakynthos offers a wide range of tours that allow visitors to explore the island’s stunning natural beauty and experience its rich culture and history. Another great tour option is the Full Day Small Group Tour to Navagio Beach, the Blue Caves & View Points. Zakynthos Greece, Navagio Beach, Shipwreck Beach, best boat tours in Zakynthos

The best way to see Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach, is through a boat tour. There are both private and large group tours available, depending on your preference. A boat tour allows you to get up close to the iconic shipwreck and explore the crystal clear waters and stunning cliffs that surround the beach. Swimming at the beach is also an option if you prefer to get closer to the water. Another option to see Navagio Beach is to visit the viewpoint at the top of the cliff. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the beach and its surroundings, and it’s a great option for those who prefer to stay on land. The viewpoint can be accessed by car or on foot, and it’s a popular spot for taking photos. Ultimately, the best way to experience Navagio Beach depends on your personal preference. A boat tour is ideal for those who want to experience the beach up close and take a dip in the turquoise waters. On the other hand, swimming at the beach is a great option for those who want to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the beach. Finally, the viewpoint is a great option for those who prefer to enjoy the beach from a distance and take in the breathtaking views of the coastline.

The peak tourist season in Zakynthos is from June to August when the weather is the hottest, and the island is crowded with tourists. During this time, the beaches and restaurants are bustling with activity, and there are plenty of events and festivals taking place. If you prefer a quieter experience, the shoulder seasons of May and September are a great time to visit. The weather is still warm and sunny, but the crowds are thinner, and the prices are more reasonable. The off-season from October to April is the quietest time on the island, and many businesses close down during this period. However, the island’s mild winter climate makes it a great destination for winter sun-seekers, and there are plenty of cultural events and festivals to enjoy during this time.

Best Boat Tours Zakynthos, Blue Caves photo from the cave towards the sun

The water around Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach, often has an electric light blue color due to the numerous sulfurous caves around the beach. The sulfur that is present in these caves can radiate into the water when the sea level rises, creating a beautiful blue glow. This phenomenon is especially visible during the early morning and late afternoon hours when the light hits the water at a certain angle. Visitors to Navagio Beach can take advantage of this unique photo opportunity and capture stunning images of the blue glowing water, adding to the already impressive beauty of the beach.

Internationally known as “Zante” (its Italian name), postcard-worthy Zakynthos is one of the best Greek islands to visit . The third-largest island of the Ionian Sea (after Corfu and Kefalonia), this little slice of paradise is a place where limestone cliffs crash down to transparent turquoise waters, and where the southern side of the island never sleeps, throwing wild parties at its all-night bars and clubs.

It’s a place where you can be finding your zen on an exotic beach with sugar-fine sand one hour, away from all the worries of the world (and away from any tourists too), and be slingin’ back tequila shots and dancing on tables in a boozy British backpacker bar the next.

With its lush fertile valleys and regular temperate climate, Zakynthos’ landscape is as varied as it is beautiful. The island’s flora and fauna are also quite diverse, with over 7,000 colorful and curious species in total – some of which are found nowhere else in the world.

Naturally, as an island, you’ll find no shortage of top-notch beach and boat tours in Zakynthos. However, with so many different types on offer – departing from different places, with different themes, different price points, and different inclusions – it can be hard to know where to start.

On the one hand, you can jump on and off the water in just a couple of hours with a quick highlight reel of the island’s most coveted beaches, coves, snorkeling spots, and viewpoints on a catamaran or sailboat, learning plenty about the area along the way from local guides.

On the flip side, if time is no enemy and you just want to soak in all there is about this unique Ionian island, there are full-day options that will let you do just that, with allocated time to snorkeling, sunbathing, exploring seaside villages, and a whole lot more.

You can also find boat tours in Zakynthos to suit every budget, whether you’re looking for a high-end luxury experience or something a little more low-key and affordable.

To help make your decision easier (and to ensure you don’t end up on a tour that’s not quite right for you – although, admittedly, it’s hard to go wrong), we’ve gone ahead and put together a list of the most popular boat tours in Zakynthos, as well as some essential need-to-knows about each.

Ready to jump on board? Let’s go!

National Marine Park boat tour, Zakynthos

A notorious hotspot for adorable Loggerhead turtles, the National Marine Park stretches along the south coast of the island, all the way from the promontory of Marathia’s Cape to the stunning beach of Gerakas – and, as a 135-square-kilometer wildlife haven, it should be atop every animal-lover and nature enthusiast’s Zakynthos itinerary.

As well as being one of the best places in Greece to swim with turtles, the park is also home to an array of other incredible marine life, including dolphins, monk seals, sea eagles, and countless different fish species of all shapes and sizes.

What’s more, the clear turquoise waters make for some of the best snorkeling in Zakynthos. Equipment is provided on most boat tours, so even if you don’t have your own, you can still jump in and explore the underwater world at your leisure, at beautiful spots like the Golden nesting beach on the paradise island of Marathonisi.

But, if you prefer to stay dry, the glass-bottom boats offer a unique way to see everything the park has to offer without getting wet.

Glass-Bottom boat tour, Zakynthos

The best way to explore the National Marine Park is on a half-day (or full, if you want to combine it with other activities) boat tour from Zakynthos Town or Laganas, which will take you along the coast, stopping at various snorkeling spots, beaches, and lookout points along the way – including the Keri caves (accessible only by sea with private boats or tourist excursions) and the famous and Insta-worthy rocky arches.

Prices for boat tours of the National Marine Park start at around €25 per person, and, since the National Marine Mark was created in order to protect the sensitive ecosystem, spots are limited, so make sure you book in advance!

Hot tip: If you’re departing from Laganas, after your tour winds up and you’re dropped back at your hotel (win!), take an hour or two to explore the History War Museum, a very different kind of attraction but one that’s definitely worth a visit.

2 – Navagio Shipwreck Beach / Smugglers Cove

Navagio Shipwreck Beach boat trip, Zakynthos

Surrounded on three sides by magnificent yet intimidating limestone cliffs, some towering well over two hundred meters high, and with a sandy beach that’s only accessible by boat, it’s no wonder that the Navagio Shipwreck Beach (a.k.a Smugglers Cove) is one of Zakynthos’ most popular tourist attractions.

The dramatic landscape and clear turquoise waters make for some breathtaking photos, but, even if you’re not a pro photographer, the simply stunning setting is guaranteed to take your breath away.

According to local legend, the shipwreck – the Panayiotis – was a smuggling vessel that ran aground in the 1980s while carrying contraband cigarettes and alcohol for the Italian mafia – hence the area’s nickname of Smugglers Cove.

The ship wrecked ashore, and the crew abandoned it as they fled from the pursuing navy. However, there are several different versions of the story circulating (including one involving terrible storms), so it’s hard to say which is the truth.

What is certain, however, is that the shipwreck has become an integral part of Zakynthos’ identity, and a must-see for anyone visiting the island.

Navagio Shipwreck Beach boat tour, Zakynthos

There are several different ways to get to Navagio Shipwreck Beach on the remote northwestern side of the island, but they all involve the water: travel by boat from Zakynthos Town, Porto Vromi )on the west coast), or on a longer route from Laganas.

The journey, especially those departing from Zakynthos Town, is stretched to be a full-day affair, passing by the resort areas of Tsilivi, Alykanas, and Alikes along the way with spectacular views to boot, and then passed Skinari, the northernmost part of the island signposted by its famous lighthouse.

Once you’re at Smugglers Cove, take some time to relax on the beach and take in the incredible views, before heading back to your hotel or resort. Not before you learn a little about the area along the way and take a dip into the warm waters, of course.

Prices for boat tours to Smugglers Cove start at around €35 per person, and, since spots are limited, it’s a good idea to book in advance.

As a little bonus, this boat tour (like most of those we’ll dive into) includes hotel pickup and drop-off in selected hotels in the major resort hubs of Laganas, Kalamaki, Argassi, Tsilivi, Zante town, Kipseli, Alykes, and Alykanas.

3 – Blue Caves

Blue Caves, Zakynthos

Arguably the most picturesque spot on the coastline of Zakynthos, the Blue Caves – justifiably dubbed for their electric blue water – are a series of stunning sea caves and twisting rock arches accessible only by boat that have been formed over many years by the erosion of the limestone cliffs.

Not just one spot but rather a series in the one area, the best way to explore the Blue Caves is on a boat tour.

These typically depart from Agios Nikolaos Port in Volimes or Alykes Beach, and will take you on a winding journey around the coast of Zakynthos, past secluded beaches and coves, before arriving at the caves themselves – where you can swim, snorkel, dive into the magical waters, or simply take in the view from the bow of the boat.

If you’re feeling adventurous (and have a head for heights), there are even tours that will let you jump off the boat and into the water below – an experience you won’t forget any time soon!

A notable hotspot for divers too, the underwater darkness takes a magical twist, interrupted by the dancing of light that dyes the waters with turquoise shades, creating an imposing effect that you won’t find in many other spots around the world.

Zakynthos Blue Caves boat tour

The biggest cave is called Kianoun, and it’s just one of the many in this long chamber of sea caves along the northwest coast of the island.

Sitting between Agios Nikolaos and the Skinari Cape, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty (with pebble beaches, and towering cliffs, that are impossible to do justice to in words – you’ll just have to see it for yourself.

If you’re looking to tick off a handful of the main attractions in one go, the good news is that the Blue Caves are usually part of an organized boat tour that also includes the Shipwreck Beach (see #2), plenty of time for swimming and snapping that like-magnet of an Instagram photo.

Hot tip: if you have the flexibility to choose a timeslot that suits you or rent your own boat, the blue caves are best appreciated at sunrise or sunset, when vibrant blues contrast with hard oranges and reds.

4 – Kefalonia day tour

Kefalonia day tour from Zakynthos

An oenophile’s heaven on earth, and a magnet for nature lovers with its golden-sand beaches, verdant mountains, and lush greenery, Kefalonia is the biggest island in the Ionian Sea; sitting west of mainland Greece and just a short ferry ride from Zakynthos, it welcomes many a Zakynthos traveler in search of a day-trip getaway.

Crowned by Mount Ainos, peaking above the clouds at 1,628 meters high, and with Myrtos Beach’s mile-and-a-half long arc of white sand regularly appearing on lists of the world’s best beaches, Kefalonia is an outdoor playground waiting to be explored.

While you’ll never run out of the things to do on this paradise island (which is exactly why some vacationers choose to stay a few days here as well as on Zakynthos), you can easily experience the lay of the land with a highlights tour that will introduce you to the main sights, sounds and tastes of Kefalonia in just one day.

Departing from Zakynthos Town in the morning, you’ll board a ferry bound for the island’s capital Argostoli; here, your tour guide will whisk you away on an air-conditioned coach to some of the most coveted attractions on the island, whisking you through various resort area that plays host to some of the most beautiful beaches on Kefalonia including Makris Gialos and Platis Gialos.

Camera at the ready; on most day trips you’ll visit the 16th-century monastery of St. Gerassimos near the inland village of Valsamata (home to the tomb of the patron saint of Kefalonia); explore the 150-million-year-old Drogorati Cave, admiring the remarkable stalactites and stalagmites that line its floors and ceiling, and cruise around Melissani Lake and Cave, which you might have heard before as the Cave of the Nymphs.

Kefalonia boat trips from Zakynthos

A stunning feat of Mother Nature, this cave sits just outside the east coast village of Sami, and regularly dazzles visitors with its crystal-clear waters and natural light that filters in through an opening in the roof of the cave.

Depending on which particular day (or multi-day) excursion you book, odds are that you’ll have some time to see the sights or relax in the historic capital town Argostoli, as well as enjoy a traditional Greek lunch in the quaint harbor town of Agia Efimia.

Not to be overlooked is a visit to picturesque Assos – sitting just over 35 kilometers north of Argostoli, it’s one of the most photographed villages in Greece with its hilltop Venetian-style castle and prettily painted buildings.

Admire the views and learn about the island’s history before continuing to Myrtos Beach for some swimming, sunbathing, and that all-important Instagram photo.

And while the order of the activities might change depending on your tour of choice, you can catch all of this before returning to Zakynthos in the early evening on a pleasant one-hour ferry ride.

5 – Marathonisi day tour

Marathonisi day trips from Zakynthos

A small, uninhabited island located just a few kilometers from the shore of Zakynthos, Marathonisi is a popular day-trip destination for travelers staying on the mainland.

An easy boat ride from Zante, and a popular one to boot (seriously, the photo says it all), Marathonisi is best known for its striking landscape; a small, sandy islet that’s home to a tiny church, and ringed by a much larger rocky outcrop with sea-plunging cliffs skirting the sides of the island.

The latter is the perfect spot for some cliff jumping if you’re feeling brave (just be sure to heed the signs that warn of danger and ask your crew for advice), or simply to take in the views and snap some photos.

Plus, with the chance to pass through the two big Myzithres Rocks, and swim in a hidden bay near the Keri peninsula, you’ll certainly have your moment of calm away from the other tour boats.

And if you’re looking to add a little more excitement to your Marathonisi experience, many boat tour operators will also offer up the opportunity to swim with loggerhead turtles – an absolute must-do for any animal lover visiting Zakynthos!

Zakynthos Marathonisi day trip

Whether you choose to go it alone or book an organized tour, be sure to bring along plenty of sunscreen, water, and snacks, as there are no shops or restaurants on the island.

That said, most boat tours worth their salt will have refreshments and local snacks available to purchase throughout the day, with some of the more comprehensive tours offering a hearty and authentic lunch in between all the loggerhead turtle selfies and sunbathing. What’s not to love?

Typically lasting around 8 hours (although you can find shorter ones too, if you need to), a Marathonisi day trip sells itself as one of the best boat tours in Zakynthos. And with the opportunity to spot a wild dolphin or two too, complimenting all of those turtle selfies, most travelers walk away grinning ear to ear.

6 – From Laganas: South Zakynthos

South Zakynthos boat tour from Laganas

While you’ll uncover a treasure trove of sparkling inlets, sandy coves, and dramatic cliffs no matter where you venture to or which of the best boat trips in Zakynthos you book, those operating out of the lively resort town of Laganas tend to focus on the island’s more southern coastline. And what a majestic, wildlife-abundant coastline it is!

With several different itineraries to choose from – including everything from daytime excursions to sunset cruises and private charters – there’s sure to be a tour that suits your needs.

One of the most popular boat tours departing from Laganas is the Keri coast Cruise, which takes travelers on a journey through some of Zakynthos’ most iconic natural sights – think Marathias Cape, the Keri Caves, the truly mesmerizing Plakaki Beach, and (if your boat trip goes this far) the natural Korakonissi rock pools.

Typically lasting around half a day, these relaxing tours whisk will you around the coast to the key landmarks, while also allowing plenty of time to swim in the crystal-clear waters, sunbathe on the catamaran (or sailboat) deck, and soak in the beauty of the scenery at your leisure.

South Zakynthos boat trip from Laganas

And with at least a couple of stops along the way for snorkeling (with all equipment provided), as well as refreshments on board (trust us, you’ll appreciate them – snorkeling is much more tiring than it looks), this family-friendly tour is a wonderful way to get the lay of the land without too much moving around or organizing!

After you arrive back at Laganas, unless you’ve opted for a sunset tour, there’ll be plenty of sunlight left to explore the town on foot.

With hidden gems around every corner, you could be checking out the History War Museum, meeting the local furry residents at the Little Farm petting zoo, digging into a meal at family-run eateries like the Toad in the Hole restaurant, or hitting up the bars on Cameo Island – all before pulling up a chair at the Cheers Beach Bar for a mighty refreshing beverage with a mighty impressive sunset to boot.

boat rental in Zakynthos

While you’ll uncover all kinds of pre-organized and hassle-free tour options in Zakynthos, some travelers prefer to set sail on their own terms. And luckily for them, renting a boat in Zakynthos is incredibly easy!

Whether you’re hoping to rent a small motorboat or yacht for the day, or are interested in something a little more long-term (we’re talking days rather than hours), there are plenty of reputable companies (and individuals) operating throughout the island that will be able to help you out.

In most cases, all you’ll need is your boating license and to be over the age of 18 – although some places in Greece may require you to be 21 or older, if you plan on venturing a little beyond the island.

Prices will vary depending on what kind of vessel you choose, how long you’re planning on renting it for, and the time of year (expect things to be a little more expensive during high season – in other words, the summer season), but you can typically expect to pay around €80-120 for a little speedboat or motorboat rental, and upwards of €350 for a yacht.

rent a boat in Zakynthos

And when we say upwards, with some multi-level luxury yachts with all the bells and whiles and room for 10 people to sleep, or your very own glass-bottom boat (with a captain included so you don’t have to worry about a thing), you could easily pay upwards of 1000 euro a day if you really wanted to. Although when you divide those costs among a large group, it isn’t as intimidating as it might seem.

Of course, if you’re hoping to rent a boat without a license (or are under 18), there are still plenty of options available too! In Zakynthos, as in most places in Greece, travelers can sign up for so-called “license-free” boat rentals. These tours allow those without licenses to captain their own vessel around Zakynthos’ coastline.

Or, if you prefer to lean into the pure relaxation and vacation mode, a plethora of boat hires include captains too – so you can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Zakynthos boat tours departure

The entire island of Zakynthos is filled with natural beauty, but some of the most impressive sights are only accessible by boat. While you’re able to book a boat tour from an array of places, including you’ll find the vast majority of tour operators located in or around Laganas.

Laganas is not only one of the most popular tourist areas on Zakynthos but is also where you’ll find the island’s largest natural harbor. And, because many of the best boat trips in Zakynthos depart from here, it’s the perfect place to start your exploration of Zakynthos by sea!

Whether you’re hoping to go swimming with turtles, explore hidden caves, or simply relax on a secluded beach, there’s sure to be a tour departing from Laganas that’s perfect for you. Plus, as a bonus, many of the island’s best bars and restaurants are located nearby – so you can refuel after your day of exploring!

A couple of other popular places include Zakynthos town and Keri Beach. The former is the island’s main port, and where you’ll likely arrive if ferrying into the island.

Full of charm and history after being rebuilt after a fire, Zante Town lures travelers in with its traditional Greek architecture and stunning waterfront views (hot tip: head up to one of the many restaurants and cafe-bars in Bohali for great hilltop vistas).

Keri Beach, on the other hand, is a little more off the beaten path but no less beautiful. Located on Zakynthos’ southeastern coast, this beach is known for its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and secluded atmosphere – making it the perfect place to escape the hubbub of the main tourist areas.

Despite the south being the most common departure point for the best boat tours in Zakynthos, you’ll find a few tour operators located outside of the Laganas and Zante Town area as well, spread across the less-populated and underrated northern side.

If you’re staying in Koroni in the north, for example, you’ll find a few companies offering boat tours departing from the nearby harbor. While these tours might not be quite as convenient as those departing from Laganas (after all, you’ll have to travel to Koroni first), they’re still a great option if you’re hoping to avoid the crowds.

The bottom line is, no matter where you are on Zakynthos, especially considering the fact that the pre-organized tours will usually pick you up from your hotel (and if it’s not already included in the price, can often be requested for an extra fee), you are never far from a great boat tour!

Zakynthos boat tour price

How much? The short answer is that it depends. Hiring a private boat for the day will, of course, cost more than booking a spot on a public (albeit likely small group_ tour – but it’s worth considering if you’re hoping for a more personalized experience. For those looking to stay within their budget, though, there are plenty of affordable options available too!

One-day boat tours typically start at around €30 per person but can cost significantly more (or less) depending on the operator and what’s included in the price.

For example, some companies might include lunch or drinks in the price while others will charge extra for these amenities. Additionally, as we touched on earlier, many tour operators also offer captain services – meaning you won’t have to worry about any of the directions.

If you still want to book a tour, but prefer something that’s more private – maybe a romantic evening? – then it’s expected that you’ll be looking at costs in the hundreds of euros rather than the tens.

Remember, however, that if you split the costs between friends and family (or strangers you met at the hostel the night before), then it can actually be comparable (and sometimes even cheaper per capita) if you book a private tour. This is because you’ll be paying for the boat and the captain, rather than just one person’s spot on the deck.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

First of all, even some of the best boat trips in Zakynthos (guided, that is) will likely not include gratuity, so be sure to budget accordingly.

And while a handful of trips will include plenty of delicious snacks and refreshing drinks, the more budget-friendly options tend to be bare-bones with an onboard bar from which you can purchase.

Of course, Greece is relatively affordable compared to most European destinations, so even if you want to buy a few Mythos, it won’t break the bank.

The other thing to note is, if you’re renting your own boat, check beforehand to see if they’ll charge extra for gas. When checking, it’s worth asking how much a full tank of gas will cost before you agree to rent with them, as it will factor into the overall price.

boat tour in Zakynthos duration

Wondering how long you should budget for your boat tour? Most tours will last between three and four hours, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the views, swim in the crystal-clear waters, and soak up the Mediterranean sun.

Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule – with some private charters offering half-day or even full-day options – but generally speaking, most of the best boat trips in Zakynthos will be somewhere between three and four hours in length.

If you’re the kind of traveler who prefers the hassle-free experience where you don’t need to organize a thing from landing to takeoff, consider a multi-day island-hopping tour. Always including plenty of time on the water, these longer options come with a wide variety of itineraries and can include nearly islands like Paxos, Paxos, Antipaxos, Sivota, and Corfu, to name but a few.

best time for a boat tour in Zakynthos

When the mercury is beating down and the only relief is to jump in the pool (or sea), a boat tour is a perfect way to escape the heat of Zakynthos’ summer days. That being said, these tours can – and should – be enjoyed all throughout the year!

In springtime, when wildflowers are blooming and temperatures are starting to climb, a boat tour provides a great opportunity to get out and enjoy some of Zakynthos’ natural beauty before the crowds descend in droves come summer.

Similarly, fall is an excellent time for a boat trip as well; not only will you avoid the busiest months but you’ll also get to enjoy slightly cooler weather and possibly even see migrating birds!

And, of course, wintertime boat tours are a must as well! While you might not be able to swim in the Ionian Sea, you’ll still get to enjoy Zakynthos’ dramatic coastline, and – if you’re lucky – even see some dolphins frolicking in the waves.

Be mindful that a number of tour operators close down for the cooler winter months, so while you won’t have nearly as many tourists to deal with, your options are a little more limited than usual too.

If you want the warmest warmers; take a boat tour in summer (June through August). For the smallest crowds, journey in winter (December through February).

But, and our pick of the bunch, if you want to experience the beauty of the region, the warmth of the waters without the huge crowds – while still meeting some fellow travelers – venture out to the Greek islands in the shoulder seasons, April to May and September to October. All that said, no matter when you visit Zakynthos, there’s sure to be a boat tour that’s perfect for you!

scuba diving in Zakynthos

In addition to boat tours, Zakynthos is also a great place for other water activities like swimming, snorkeling, and windsurfing.

The island’s clear waters and gentle waves make it an ideal spot for swimming, and there are plenty of beaches where you can relax and soak up the sun.

For those who want to explore the underwater world, several companies offer snorkeling tours – many of which include a stop at the famous Shipwreck Beach – and if you’re looking for something a little more active, windsurfing is also popular in Zakynthos.

For the extra daring who want to get up close and personal with the marine life at deeper levels (pun intended), a scuba diving trip might be just what you’re looking for. With several dive sites around the island, Zakynthos is a great place to explore the underwater world – and you might even get to see some turtles!

Some of the more well-known spots to don the oxygen tank and flippers are the tourist resort of Tsivili on the northern coast, St. Nicholas Beach on the southeastern arm of the island, and, of course, the coastline and natural coves found within short boating distance of Laganas.

Even if you’re never dived before, there are plenty of tour operators who offer beginner-friendly courses and tours – so there’s no excuse not to give it a try!

Whether you’re looking for a leisurely boat ride or an adrenaline-pumping water activity, Zakynthos has something for everyone.

Travel tips

  • As an affordable, beautiful, and popular travel destination, Zante can tend to get a little crowded during the peak summer months (largely July and August). While some people love the party atmosphere and the larger crowds (more people equals more potential new friends, right?), for those in search of a little more tranquility, it’s advised to come to Greece is in the shoulder season (March to May or September to November) when the sea is still warm enough to swim in but tourist numbers are lower.
  • If you’re looking for a party, head to Laganas beach in July and August. For a more relaxed atmosphere, try Tsilivi or Alykanas beach. And for those who want to get away from it all, there are plenty of secluded coves and beaches waiting to be explored – you just need a boat!
  • While the best boat tours in Zakynthos are quintessential — you need to do at least one — be sure to spend some time exploring all the island has to offer on land as well. In Zante town, there are plenty of tavernas, shops, and bars to keep you busy, and if you’re looking for something a little more active, there are several hiking trails that wind through the island’s interior.
  • Learn a few words of Greek before you go! Even if it’s just the basics, the locals are sure to appreciate the effort (and you never know, you might get some extra friendly service as a result! To kick you off, “YAH-soo!” = Hello!, “eff-kha-ri-STOE!” = Thank you!, “para-kah-LOE!” = Please!, “POH-soh KAH-nee af-TOH?”: How much does this cost?, and probably a common one, “Mee-LAH-teh ag-li-KAH” = do you speak English?
  • Always carry cash. Frequently, in smaller tavernas and shops around the island, credit and debit cards are not accepted – so it’s always best to have cash on hand. While most places will have an ATM where you can withdraw money, it’s not always guaranteed – and who wants to waste valuable vacation time searching for a bank?
  • Consider visiting other nearby islands. Ferry services to and from Zakynthos are frequent and relatively cheap, making it easy to add a stop at one of Greece’s other amazing islands. And even the ferry rides themselves would be considered incredible tourist attractions in any other part of the world. From Zakynthos, you can easily visit the island of Kefalonia to the north (just over an hour) or head south to the stunning Peloponnese peninsula.

Final thoughts

Having delighted many a sun-seeking traveler to this day, and with many more to be overjoyed by the food, nature, and culture for decades to come Zakynthos is an island that begs to be explored on land and sea. For the latter, it’s near impossible to think of a better way to do it than on one of the many tours departing daily from Zante’s shores.

Whether you’re after a sailboat, Catamaran, motor yacht, or something a little more unique like a glass-bottom boat or even a pirate ship – you’re sure to find the perfect tour for you.

Now all that’s left is to choose your vessel, take your pick from the best boat tours in Zakynthos, and set sail! So what are you waiting for? Grab your swimsuit and sunscreen and get ready for an unforgettable vacation on the water!

The best Zante boat trips – on the Greek island of Zakynthos

Are you a secret pirate or a nature loving mermaid? If you take one of the Zakynthos boat trips that are a favourite with visitors to the island, you’ll have the chance to play at being both. As my sister lives on Zante (as it’s more popularly known to the Brits) I’ve had the good fortune to take a holiday in Greece every year.

Zante Boat Trips to Navagio, Smuggler's cove, Zante Photo: Heatheronhertravels.com

We’ve done a few Zante boat trips throughout the years we’ve been visiting, and there are some variations. You’ll typically find a couple of choices depending on whether you want to explore the rocky north or the golden beaches to the south of the island.

Visit the Blue caves and Shipwreck beach on a Zante boat trip

If you’ve seen any photos of Zakynthos, chances you’ll have seen the one of Shipwreck cove or Navagio, taken from the cliffs above. This crescent of sand hosts a half-buried, rusty wreck and high cliffs on either side. It is one of the most photographed beaches in Greece.

To reach Navagio, which is on the north-west coast of the island, you’ll typically take one of the many trips from St Nicholas port. Or, depart from Makris Gialos, a small beach that is just before St Nicholas port. We started our boat trip in Zante at Makris Gialos.

Our smallish boat took up to 20 people, had a shaded awning and a powerful motor. The boat made good headway on relatively calm waters at first. We passed the sea caves, known locally as the ‘Blue Caves’. These caves have been cut limestone cliffs by the sea.

We didn’t stop but powered on around the northern tip of the island, at which point the sea started to become decidedly rough. Around 40 minutes after leaving the beach we were all feeling a bit seasick. We were relieved when the Shipwreck beach came into sight.

Smuggler’s boat or just a good story?

The metal hull of the ship on the sand is supposed to be a cigarette smuggler’s boat that went aground in the 1980’s. Perhaps that’s just a nice story to tell the tourists! In any case it adds some interest to a beautiful beach which is larger than it appears from above. This beach can only be reached by sea, due to the sheer limestone cliffs.

On the day we visited the swell was high. Although the captain skilfully moved the boat as close as he could, it wasn’t possible to get it right up on the beach. If we wanted to get ashore, we’d have to jump in and swim through the surf.

In we went, although I was knocked over by the force of the waves and ended up with sand in my bikini and water up my nose. We spent around 20 minutes on the beach and I took the opportunity to walk around the ship. Over time it has broken in half, making a shady area inside, with a hull that had rusted away into lacy holes.

We swam back to the boat and powered back the way we had come. The captain showed no mercy to those of us feeling sick as he opened the throttle and the boat banged up and down on the waves. Things improved once we rounded the headland and entered sheltered waters again, returning to explore the sea caves.

The captain nosed the boats into a few of the caves where the water below us was startlingly deep cobalt blue and turquoise. We anchored for a while and had a chance to swim and snorkel around the boat before returning to Makris Gialos.

This boat trip in Zakynthos takes around 2-3 hours. Check whether the sea is rough or calm as this will affect your experience. Bear in mind that even if it is calm at your resort, it may still be windy with rough seas in the north of the island.

Also consider the size of the boat, as a larger boat may be more stable but a smaller boat will be able to get you closer into the beach. For those that don’t want to brave the choppy seas to the shipwreck beach, you can still do a very pleasant boat trip in a glass bottom boat to the sea caves.

You’ll have plenty of opportunities for swimming, although this will make a shorter trip. Our boat trip cost around €20 per person and you may be able to negotiate a discount for larger groups.

Zante turtle boat trips in Laganas bay

If you want more gentle boat trip for your holiday in Greece, I’d suggest that you head for the southern end of the island. Look for one of the Zakynthos boat trips that take you through Laganas Bay and around to the Keri caves.

This end of the island is famed for the beautiful golden sandy beaches and the Loggerhead or Caretta Caretta turtles that nest on them. These Zante turtle boat trips are typically sold as an opportunity to see the loggerheads swimming in Laganas Bay. You should be aware that their numbers are dwindling. Plan to go with a reputable boat owner who will respect the laws of the National Marine Park and not harass the turtles.

Zante turtle boat trips Photo: Heatheronhertravels.com

We’ve taken these Laganas boat trips twice. Different styles of boats give slightly different experiences although we went to the same locations on both trips. The first occasion was a half-day trip on a catamaran. This boat had a cabin and plenty of space on deck at the back and front of the boat to spread out.

We left from the small beach at Porto Roma. The first hour was spent travelling along the coast with views of the limestone cliffs. Later we rounded the point and crossed Laganas Bay to swim in the Keri caves.

On the second occasion we went on a much smaller, glass bottomed boat from Agios Sostis close to Laganas. This meant that we had a shorter trip of around 2 hours, which was still plenty of time.

Laganas boat trips to see the Loggerhead turtles in Laganas bay Photo: Heatheronhertravels.com

Mind the strict rules about the turtles

Either on the way out or the way back the boat is likely to take you into Laganas Bay. This is the main place you can see turtles swimming in the water.

Beware of any boat owners who guarantee you’ll see the turtles. This makes it more likely that the few that are around will be chased and tracked down just to give you your sighting.

There are also strict rules about the contact with the turtles. For instance you’re not allowed to swim close to the turtles or to pull them out of the water. And, a limited number of boats are allowed near a turtle at any one time.

All this means that you’ll probably be able to see the turtles for around 10 minutes before the boat needs to move away. On our first turtle boat trip, we went with local naturalist Yannis Vardakastanis, who runs the Earth Sea and Sky volunteer and information programme. This time we didn’t actually see any turtles. On the second trip we did spot one and there were several boats close to it all homing in to take a look, so I felt a bit sorry for the turtle.

Boat trips in Zante to Keri caves, Zante turtle boat trips Photo: Heatheronhertravels.com

Visit Turtle Island in Laganas bay and swim in the Keri caves

The second part of the boat trip takes you to the far side of Laganas bay and under the high limestone cliffs at Keri. Here there are some sea arches and caves, although not as deep as the Blue Caves on the north-east coast. When the boat anchors, this is a lovely place to jump off into the clear water and swim or snorkel.

On the return trip, you are likely to stop at Marathonisi or Turtle island in Zante. This small island in the bay makes the shape of a turtle. It’s also one of the nesting beaches for the turtles. You are not allowed to land on the small sandy beach where the turtles nest, and even if you have your own boat you should not do so.

Marathonisi or Turtle island Zante Photo: Heatheronhertravels.com

On the opposite side of the island is another small beach and a sea cave where you are allowed to land. Here you can relax for a while and have a swim. There’s even a boat that comes around selling ice creams and drinks, just like an ice cream van.

Turtle spotting boat trip options

If you are interested in taking a Zante turtle spotting boat trip, there are many boats that offer it. Go either from Laganas resort, from the small marina at Agios Sostis or from the harbour at Keri. If you’re in one of the holiday resorts you’ll also come across plenty of people selling you this as a day trip with transport to and from the resort.

The shorter 2-3 hour trips typically cost €20-25 per person. You can also rent small boats for 6-8 people to take out yourself into the bay. This is fun if there’s a large group of you and you feel confident handling the boat.

The boat trips in Zante to see the blue caves, turtles or Shipwreck beach are well worth doing. And, there are plenty more things to see and do on the Greek island of Zakynthos. The boat trips are a lovely way to see the island and was certainly a highlight of our holiday.

Hello Heather, I've never been to Zakynthos. I'm looking to stay at a hotel close to a port where I could take advantage of daily boat trips. As a Zakynthos aficionado, what is the best port to stay close by for frequent boat trips to different beaches? (2-6 hour day excursions by boat, not ferries). We're planning to spend 5 nights.

Heather Cowper

@Rob There are a few main types of boat trips on Zakynthos - in the north of the island to see the blue caves and shipwreck beach, in the south of the island around Laganas bay for turtle spotting and to see the Keri caves for swimming, and longer variations such as around the whole island on a day trip. You can find lots of boat trips from Zante town, but I personally wouldn't stay there as you get a much more relaxed experience in one of the resort hotels with a swimming pool and close to the beach. I would hire and use that to visit different beaches as these are easy to access by car and the boat trips are more to see the sea caves and shipwreck. Then I'd take one or two boat trips in the north and south of the island depending on what interests you. These kinds of trips can be booked from numerous providers in every resort. If you want to be centrally located, my sister's hotels in Argassi (Windmill Hotel & Windmill Bay Hotel) are a good choice - you are a 15 min drive or bus ride from Zante town and can easily drive or get a bus to the other wonderful beaches at Vassilikos, Gerakas. Or you can drive to Laganas or to the north of the island to get a boat trip or organise it locally.

Sunday 26th of July 2015

I'm heading for Zakynthos on Tuesday for a family holiday, and was last there 21 years ago on honeymoon. We stayed at Kalamaki last time and saw the turtles coming ashore to lay eggs, and this time we are staying round the east side at Tsilivi. Really looking forward to how the island will have changed. We had a few wild nights out in Laganas last time, I suspect it's far wilder now!

@Rob I suspect that you'll find the area around Kalamaki and Laganas a lot more built up and busy than when you were there last and I think the beaches where the turtles nest are closed at night to protect them. Hope you have a great holiday!

I wish one of my sisters lived in Greece!! Both boat trips sound amazing, but if I had to choose, it would have to be to see the turtles!

@Susan I agree, I love the turtle trip, even if you don't see any turtles, the water is beautiful

Hello Heather, long time no see.

I just thought I would mention that in my opinion, if you are touring Zakynthos by car or bike, the quickest, cheapest and most convenient way of seeing both the Blue Caves and Navagio Beach is to take the boats below the lighthouse at Cape Schinari, right in the middlwe of the caves, and the Shipwreck is just 12 minutes away. I was there with guests earlier this week and the fare to visit both attractions was just 15 Euros.

Two more advantages are that you get to see the most beautiful and rugged part of the island with picturesque old villages, wonderful vegetation and you can better evaluate sea conditions so that you avoid the rough ride that you referred to.

Best Regards Rob

@Rob Great to hear from you, I'll try and call in when I'm visiting my sis in August - thanks for that tip, I didn't realise that you could take a boat from that location, probably it's not much promoted as the boatmen don't make as much out of the trip. As you say you get the benefit of the caves and the beach without the long boat journey which isn't great if its rough

Hello Heather, long time no see. I just thought to mention that if you are touring the island by car or bike, the most convenient, cheapest and quickest location to see both the Blue Caves and Navagio is below the lighthouse at Cape Schinari, right at the north of the island, where glass-bottomed boats take you into the adjacent Caves, and it is only 12 minutes to the Shipwreck. The other advantage is that you can evaluate the sea conditions much better up there and avoid the rough ride that you had. There are also boats for the Shipwreck at Porto Vromi on the West Coast.

Posted on Last updated: October 29, 2023

Planning to visit the famous Shipwreck Beach in Zakynthos, but not sure where to start? You’ve come to the right place!

Navagio Beach in Zante, Greece, is also known as Shipwreck Beach due to the huge ship wrecked on the beach (as you may have guessed from the name). It’s one of the most famous beaches in Greece, if not all of Europe.

As such, if you’re planning a trip to Zante, it’s only natural that you will want to add this iconic spot to your Zante itinerary.

In this article I have outlined everything you need to know about visiting Navagio Shipwreck Beach. Including its exact position, how to get there, how to get to its famous viewpoint, the best tours to join, what to do and more!

So what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in, and discover how to make the most of your time at Shipwreck Beach in Zante!

What is Shipwreck Beach in Zakynthos?

Whether you call it Navagio Beach, Smuggler’s Cove, Agios Georgios (its original name it was previously known with) or Shipwreck Beach, there’s no denying the beauty of this amazing slice of coastline.

And as you can probably tell from the names, it’s a beach with a shipwreck on it. But how did it get there?

The famous Zante shipwreck is the remains of the MV Panagiotis , a ship that ran aground during bad weather in 1980. There are different rumours around how exactly this happened.

Some say it was smuggling contraband cigarettes for the Italian mafia, and was wrecked while being chased by the Greek authorities! But that’s just a story.

Either way, the wreck provides a cool contrast to the white cliffs, gleaming white sand beach and bright turquoise sea of the cove.

Plus it’s been made even more famous thanks to it featuring in the 2016 Korean TV series Descendants of the Sun , with K-drama aficionados making the pilgrimage to the famed location.

Where is Navagio Shipwreck Beach

Navagio Shipwreck Beach is located on the Northwest corner of Zakynthos Island. As we will soon see, you can’t directly access the beach via land, but you can go to its famous viewpoint by driving to this spot .

It’s a 50-minute drive from the south of the island, where most of the tourist towns like Zakynthos Town, Laganas and Keri are located.

How to get to Navagio Shipwreck Beach

If you want to see the Zakynthos shipwreck and the stunning beach where it sits, it’s not as simple as just rocking up with your beach towel.

Due to the beach being accessible only by boat, I’ll divide this part into two sections: the first one telling you how to get to the actual Shipwreck Beach, Zante, and the second one sharing how to get to the iconic Navagio Beach Viewpoint.

How to get to Navagio Beach

Like I said just a moment ago, there is no way to reach the actual beach via land.

This means that the only way to get to Navagio Beach in Zante is via boat, and you’re probably not going to have access to your own boat while you’re there.

So that means you’ll be taking to the high seas on a boat tour from Laganas to Shipwreck Beach (or from other parts of the island). I have listed below some of the best Shipwreck Beach tours, but will go into more detail about them in just a moment.

How to get to Shipwreck Navagio Beach viewpoint

While the beach itself is without a doubt beautiful, what most people want to see is the iconic view over it from the top of the cliffs.

After all, that shot of the shipwreck lying on the white sand, turquoise water in front of it and towering cliffs surrounding it features on everyones Europe bucket list .

How do you actually get to the Shipwreck Beach viewpoint? It’s pretty simple to drive to the viewpoint by yourself (be warned however, the road leading up to it is narrow and winding!). Simply drive to this Google Maps location .

There’s free parking area here, which is super handy, plus there’s also a food truck close to the free viewing deck, with some tables and seats in the shade.

The free viewing platform is pretty cool! It protrudes out of the cliff itself, allowing for unobstructed views of the Shipwreck Cove down below, even though the cliffs partly block the wreck itself …

How to see that iconic Shipwreck Beach view

Let’s expand a bit on Shipwreck Beach Viewpoint, as it deserves a little more detail.

The “official” viewing deck that I linked above consists of a metal platform with railings, which sticks out from the cliffs. It’s the safest way to get a fairly decent view of Shipwreck Beach.

But to be honest with you, this view isn’t the best or the iconic view of Shipwreck Beach that you will have seen in photos. And not only that — you have to queue in a long line for quite a while under the sun to see it, which is never fun.

The view over Navagio Shipwreck Beach from the

The view over Navagio Shipwreck Beach from the “official” viewing deck

There is another viewpoint, an “unofficial” one. If you look to the right of the food truck you’ll see a metal fence with a sign that says “do not pass” — but there’s also a very big hole in the fence.

Through here you’ll also see a well beaten trail, as well as numerous other tourists walking through the hole and on the trail.

If you go through the railing you will have to do a short hike for 10-15 minutes, and you’ll the get the other Shipwreck Beach viewpoint.

As soon as you look back to Shipwreck Beach, you will see the breathtaking views of Navagio Beach that you always see in photos. This “unofficial” viewpoint has no railings, no viewing deck, and no safety measures of any sort in place.

As such, if you do choose to come to this viewpoint, I advise you stick to the path and to keep a safe distance from the edge, and don’t take any risks to get the “best” photo.  People have fallen from the cliffs here while taking photos.

Best Zakynthos shipwreck tours

Of course, the most classic way to see the Zakynthos shipwreck is by taking a tour by boat to the beach itself.

However, there are so many tours that it can be a little difficult working out which one is best. Here I’ve outlined some of the best boat tours in Zakynthos , so that you can find the best one for you.

This tour to Shipwreck Beach in Zante is a pretty comprehensive option.

Not only does it take you to the beach itself, as well as the viewpoint up above, but it will also take you to a number of different sights around the island. These include the famous Blue Caves and Bochali Hill.

The first part of the tour sees you whisked to Zakynthos Town, where you’ll head up Bochali Hill for views of the port below.

From there it’s onto the Shipwreck Beach viewpoint, where you can snap pictures of the surrounding cliffs. Then you’ll hop on the boat for a 3-hour mini cruise to Navagio Beach and then onward to the Blue Caves.

There’s also a collection of other interesting sights included on the tour, including local villages like Exo Chora with its amazing 2,000-year-old olive tree!

Check out prices & availability for your Shipwreck Beach & Blue Caves tour here , or in the calendar below!

Visiting Navagio Shipwreck Beach in Zante, Greece, on a boat tour

Visiting Navagio Shipwreck Beach in Zante, Greece, on a boat tour

So this is more of a transfer rather than a proper tour, but it’s still a good way to get from wherever you’re staying to the famous beach.

It doesn’t cover every town on the island though, covering travel from towns including Psarou, Kalamaki, Zante Town and Laganas, to Shipwreck Beach.

I’d say this is a great option if you don’t want to rent a car, but want to see the shipwreck at sunset.

From your accommodation, this transfer will take you past famous sights, with the driver on hand to explain the history of it all along the way.

They’ll take you to the top of the Shipwreck Beach viewpoint so you can see the beach in all its glory. You’ll have an hour or so to snap photos galore of a gorgeous sunset.

From Porto Vromi: Shipwreck Beach Private Boat Cruise

Feel like a tour but want a bit more privacy? Then opt for a private cruise for you and whoever you’re travelling with! This private tour to Zante’s Navagio Beach offers up an adventurous day out exploring the island’s beautiful coastline.

The first stop is at Shipwreck Beach itself, where you can have a refreshing swim in the sea, before you’ll be whisked onward to Hidden Treasure Cave — another chance to float around in the crystal-clear water.

Then you’ll head to experience marine life at White Beach, Sfogio Beach, Porto Steniti, the Blue Caves and Heart Caves. You’ll also get to see a fun rock formation at Poseidon’s Profile (the clue is in the name!).

This is another private tour , ideal for couples or families who want to have fun without worrying about other people’s itineraries and schedules.

This tour is pretty good actually, as it takes you around the whole island, not only Shipwreck Beach. Your local skipper will take you to a collection of sights dotted around Zakynthos.

These include White Beach, Sfogio Beach, the Blue Caves, Keri Caves and Turtle Island, to name just a few. Of course, you’ll also head to Shipwreck Beach for a swim in the cove.

I’d recommend booking the evening schedule, as you’ll get to see a stunning sunset as part of the tour, too!

From Porto Vromi: Navagio Shipwreck Beach Excursion by Boat

This Shipwreck Beach boat tour offers an awesome way to experience the natural landscapes of Zakynthos, without breaking the bank. It’s a great option for solo travelers, as it’s a bigger boat than the previous tours, with other people onboard, hence the lower price.

Setting sail from the bay of Porto Vromi, the boat makes its way to Navagio Beach where you’ll stop in the cove and have a chance to swim in the crystal clear waters.

But it’s not just Navagio Beach that you’ll be hitting up. There’s also the Blue Caves, where the boat will take you inside to marvel at the rock formations.

You’ll also head to a hidden beach, Sfogio, then onto another beautiful beach called Porto Steniti. This tour is the perfect way to enjoy some of the best beaches and coastlines in Zakynthos.

What can you do at Shipwreck Beach in Zakynthos?

Until 2022, you could still actually go onto the beach. It was fun!

You could spend a chill day there, tanning, swimming — you know, the usual beach activities. Unfortunately, today the beach is closed, and there’s not a lot to do there anymore.

It’s the one of the most popular attractions and most famous beach of Zakynthos, but you can’t actually go on the beach. It was closed due to rock falls last year, and the increased risk of landslides.

On land, you can head to the Shipwreck Beach view point to see it all from above, and take in one of the most photographed places in Greece.

Boat tours to the beach stop nearby, and you can swim, but not for long and it’s not the same as actually hanging out on the beach.

Still, it’s a decent day trip, especially if you join one of the tour operators that takes you also to other sights on Zakynthos.

Is it worth visiting Navagio Shipwreck Beach?

If you are travelling to Greece solely to see the Shipwreck Beach in Zakynthos, then I would say no — it’s not worth visiting.

Nowadays there isn’t much to it, besides taking photos from the viewpoint of the rusty shipwreck on the gleaming sand.

It looks cool, it looks great in photos, but it’s not worth a trip in itself. And a reminder: it’s definitely not worth risking injury to yourself to get a photo of it!

That said, if you’re in Zakynthos anyway , and you’re wondering what to do with yourself, then of course I would say visit Shipwreck Beach. After all, it’s one of the must-see spots in Zante !

There might not be much to do, but it’s still one of the most iconic spots in Zakynthos, if not all of Greece. Plus a lot of boat tours of the island visit, so you might end up seeing Navagio Shipwreck Beach even if it wasn’t part of your itinerary!

Where to stay in Zante to visit Navagio Beach

It doesn’t really matter where you stay in Zakynthos to visit Navagio Beach. The island isn’t particularly big, even if you stay in the south in Laganas or Keri you will just drive max 1 hour to reach the viewpoint.

As such, here are some of the best places to stay in Zakynthos for every budget, and in different areas around the island.

Budget: Gerovasis Apartments with Sea View – We spent five nights here and found it to be a perfect base for exploring Zante. Located in the quiet beach town of Keri, the apartment is spacious, clean, has epic views and is fairly cheap.

Click here to book your stay at Gerovasis Apartments with Sea View!

Mid-range: Joya Luxury Villas – Even though there is Luxury in the name, this beautiful villa is actually pretty affordable, while still offering a luxury service. It sleeps up to 10 people, has a private pool, and is perfectly positioned to explore the North East coast of Zante. We stayed here for the weekend and loved it.

Luxury: Lesante Cape Resort & Villas – We had lunch here and fell in love with the venue. This 5-star hotel has beautiful little villas with private pools, amazing service, stunning views and is in a great position. Perfect to spoil yourself!

Explore Zakynthos

If you love nature, this is the place to be. The lush greenery of the inland reaches the island’s coast, giving its waters an emerald color.

There’s a lot to discover in flora and fauna, but perhaps Zante is mostly known for one of the favorite habitats for the Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta-Caretta) and the Mediterranean monk seal. And exploring the reach marine life of the island is an experience you’ll never forget.

While the east side of the island is full of sandy beaches with calm waters, the west side is more rocky, full of caves and cliffs. Both sides offer marvelous sights, some of which is best to visit on a boat tour.

The weather is warm from spring to autumn, giving you the chance to enjoy Zante’s lovely beaches.
