Extra day in Cairo (5-star) - pre-tour

After breakfast we have a brief pre-tour briefing before we take you on a tour of Gisa and Saqqara. Gisa was built around 4600 years ago as a necropolis (cemetery) for the pharaoh Khufu (Cheops). The successor of Sneferu, Khufu was known as a tyrant and in his arrogance decided to have built a tomb that was bigger and better than all others. Standing 500 feet high and 750 feet at its base the Pyramid of Khufu is an awesome man-made structure constructed of giant blocks of stone covered in a hard limestone casing. The casing has, over the years, been stripped away to leave exposed the inner block structure. Together with the smaller pyramids of Khafre (Chephern) and Menkaure (Mycerinus), the majestic sight of these enormous structures rising out of the desert is a breathtaking spectacle. Here you have the chance to climb inside one of the pyramids (there are a limited number of tickets available, so we cannot guarantee this), and also to take a camel ride. Close by, the mysterious Sphinx stands guard, as it has done so for thousands of years. You have another guided tour around the sphinx and some free time to walk around and take photos.

We'll then head into the city and visit the Egyptian Museum (which houses a vast collection of artefacts from Egypt's past, including the famous King Tutunkhamun display)

While the ancient Pharaohs had important settlements here, what can be considered the city of Cairo today was founded in 969 AD by Gohar, a Fatimid army leader, and El Kahera (Cairo) soon became the capital of Egypt. Subsequent additions like the El Azhar mosque, the Islamic University, and defensive walls and a citadel, built by Saladin in 1179, have helped Cairo remain Egypt's principal city. The 16-year reign of Ismail (1830-1895) ushered in a new period of expansion and modernisation in Cairo. Areas like Heliopolis, Dokki and Roda were added, while gardens, Opera houses, large hotels and wide, tree lined avenues were built. Further post revolutionary, urban expansion has left Cairo as one of the world's largest cities. Today it is a bustling metropolis of over 20 million people, a strange mix of modern and old, a unique blend of diverse cultures and a gateway to Egypt's past. You have a free day in the city today to either relax in your hotel, explore independently or take an optional tour.

Le Riad Hotel de Charme

Le Riad Hotel de Charme is an award winning all-suite luxury boutique hotel located in the heart of Old Cairo on the busy, mainly pedestrian El Moez Street. The hotel is surrounded by old Ottoman Houses and the design of the hotel and its suites aims to reflect the historical surroundings. All 17 suites are large, comfortable and individually designed and furnished with warm colours, fabrics, antique furniture and paintings by local artists. Each has a dressing room/study and lounge area with free WiFi and internet enabled TVs. Large en-suite marble bathrooms have walk in showers but not baths. 

There are both deluxe King and Twin suites, some with an additional sofa bed, plus larger Superior suites which feature a balcony overlooking El Moez Street.

The hotel has a tea lounge on the first floor, plus a rooftop restaurant. Due to the location in Islamic Cairo, no alcohol is served in the hotel, though guests may bring their own to the suites.

Our tours are designed to include all that you need to enjoy a really special time in the destination you‘re visiting. However, we do also offer some extra options to complement the tour and add some additional sightseeing or activities, or some extra time at either end of the tour.

All accommodation based options (e.g. Single supplements, extra nights, cruise upgrades) should be booked and paid for in advance so that we can make the appropriate arrangements. Other options may either be booked and paid for in advance or while you are on the tour, though we recommend booking in advance to ensure there are no issues with availability.

Alexandria day trip

Alexandria is about 2.5 hours drive, north of Cairo on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. This ex colonial city is the second largest in Egypt and our visit will include the Roman amphitheatre with its twelve semi-circular marble tiers, the Catacombs of Kom al-Shoqafa which is the largest Roman cemetery in Alexandria, Pompey's Pillar, Fort Qaitbey (from outside), the famous modern library before returning to Cairo. If time allows you can tour inside Fort Qaitbey and we may also visit the Montazah Palace gardens. Lunch at a seafood restaurant is included. As the tour takes a full day you will either need a late evening flight departure on the last day of the tour to accommodated it, or to add an extra day to the start or end of your trip.

Cairo city tour

This half day guided tour of Cairo tour begins with Islamic areas including the Citadel of Saladdin, boasting the famous Alabaster Mosque of Mohammed Ali. Then we head onto the Coptic area of Cairo where the Romans constructed the fortress of Babylon. The church of St. Mary was built over the ruins of two towers of the fortress whilst it is more commonly known as the Hanging Church next stop is St. Sergius which is said to be the resting place of the Holy Family. The tour finishes at the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar. The entrance fees budget covers the Coptic Museum, the Citadel and the Sultan Hassan Mosque. Depending on your day, you may not have time to visit all of these. Entrance fees to sites visited are not included (budget approx. USD 20)

Saqqara, Dashour & Memphis

This half day guided tour on the outskirts of Cairo tour provides more insight into the history and evolution of pyramid building, and of the Egyptian civilisation. Our tours are based in the area of ancient Memphis, a former capital of Egypt. First we'll visit Saqqara, a huge desert necropolis which was built for the kings and nobles of the Old Kingdom. Here we see Zoser's 'step' pyramid and the adjacent Imhotep museum where we learn more about Memphis and the history of the region. Next we head to Dashour to see one of the next attempts at pyramid building. Dashour's moniker of the 'bent pyramid' shows they still had a bit to learn, but this is a fascinating site and the pyramid still has much of its original limestone cladding. We'll then return you to your hotel.

Wadi Rayan day trip (Valley of the Whales)

This tour provides a great contrast to the Pharaonic sites you have visited on the rest of your tour. We leave Cairo and head to the Fayoum region where we head for the Wadi Rayan Protected Area, which surrounds a fresh-water lake in the middle of the desert, filled by the remaining irrigation water from the Fayoum area. There are several waterfalls here (popular in Egyptian pop music videos), and a bird hide which gives good views of the lakes birdlife, particularly in the winter months when the lake is an important stop for migrating water-birds. We also visit the Springs Oasis area, a rare example of an uninhabited Saharan oasis, and host to many different plants and animals, including Dorcas Gazelle, Ruppell's Sand Fox and Fennec Fox. Before lunch, we'll make a stop in the sand dunes surrounding Wadi Rayan to have a go at Sandboarding. After a stop for a packed lunch, we then drive into the stunning desert & mountain scenery of Wadi Hitan (Valley of the Whales). This World Heritage Site is accepted as the most significant site in the world to demonstrate the evolution of whales, and we take a 2-3km walk here to see several specimens of fossilised whales of different types sitting on the surface of the sand, as well as fossilised mangroves and the remains of crab holes. 

This tour requires a full free day in Cairo, but can also be arranged straight after you arrive back in Cairo from Luxor/Aswan from the overnight sleeper train. We can also arrange it on any tour if you add extra days before and after your main tour. Prices shown are based on 2 or more people travelling, with an additional supplement due for solo travellers. 

Price includes lunch whilst in Wadi Hitan and entrance fees.

Most of our small group tours use high quality hotels at the Egyptian 5-star level in Cairo, Aswan, Luxor and Hurghada, all with swimming pools and a choice of restaurants and bars. 

However, some of our lower budget trips (eg. Egypt Express) use good quality 3 and 4-star level hotels, all with air-conditioned en-suite bathrooms. On some tours we also use a Nubian guesthouse in Aswan which is full of character and has a great location by the Nile.

Our private/tailor-made tour itineraries use a wider mix of hotels, from comfortable mid-range hotels at the 3-4 star level (generally the best available in some of the less visited places included in the particular itinerary) up to some of the very best deluxe 5-star properties in the country.

On our group tours, these hotels may change from time to time for other properties of a similar standard. If you would like to guarantee a particular hotel, please request a tailor-made tour.

Nile cruise tours are generally based on Egyptian 5-star level boats - perhaps equivalent to a decent international 4-star hotel standard. Please check the Accommodation section on the tour page for details. Deluxe 5-star level boats, all-suite boats, and Dahabiyas are also available on private and tailor-made tours. Please contact us for details.

Accommodation is based on twin, triple or double en-suite rooms/cabins with air conditioning. All couples will be given a private double room/cabin. Triple cabins are not available on Nile cruise boats.

Gala Dinners Many of Egypt's hotels and Nile cruise boats arrange a very special gala dinner with entertainment in the evening on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Payment for these is often optional on Christmas Eve (24 Dec) but may be compulsory on New Year's Eve (31 Dec), whether you attend or not. Prices can range from around US$50 to over US$180 per person. Final decisions on prices and whether dinners are compulsory are made relatively close to the time. We aim to always select hotels that make their Gala Dinners optional, though this is is not always possible. Gala dinner prices are therefore not included in our prices above, but will be added to your booking if they become required. More information is available on request.

Our Egypt tours include a 24-hour airport meet & assist service in Cairo airport, your arrival and departure airport-hotel transfers and all other transfers. Our representative will meet you in the immigration hall of Cairo airport before you get to passport control. They will assist with visa formalities before helping you collect your luggage and taking you to your hotel.

Your airport transfers are only included on the first and last day of the set tour itinerary, plus on any additional days if you book your hotel room with us. If you make your own arrangements for additional accommodation at either the beginning or the end of the tour then you will need to arrange your own airport transfers on these days.

We want to give you as much flexibility as possible when it comes to booking your holiday with us. So, to take account of people with varying travel plans, we don’t normally include international flights in the main tour price. We are however very happy to suggest flights to go with the tour. Please contact us with your preferred dates and departure airport and we’ll give you a selection of airlines, times and fares to choose from.

Your airport arrival & departure transfers are included on the first and last days of the tour. Nearly all our Egyptian tours start and finish in Cairo airport (CAI).

We do also sometimes advertise flight inclusive packages from selected airports. Where these are shown on our website, prices are correct at the time of quoting, but are subject to continued availability of the fare used. Prices will be reconfirmed at the time of booking, and we will also provide the flight times and airline details before tickets are issued. 

Travel Zoo / Groupon Flight Inclusive Packages Encounters Travel occasionally offer flight inclusive packages - In this case, your international flights will be included as per the package you have purchased. Flight inclusive prices are based on the cheapest Economy ticket class available which is generally non-refundable and non-changeable. More flexible ticket options, as well as Premium Economy and Business Class tickets are available on request for an additional supplement. Any changes made to flight inclusive bookings will be subject to the airline rules on your ticket. 

We are committed to being a small group operator, as we feel this gives everyone in the group the best chance to get to know their fellow travellers and to hear and make the most of their guide. There’s no point in us providing great guides if you’ve got to peer over 30-40 shoulders to see them! So, we won’t ever put you in a 50-seater coach with 49 other people and just one guide. Instead, we set our Egypt small-group departures to have a maximum of 18 travellers. Shoestring tours have a maximum group size of 26. On dedicated Nile Cruise tours you may join larger boat groups for the sightseeing trips, though a supplement is always available for a private Egyptologist guide for these tours (requires advance booking). Specialist escorted tours and workshops may have different group sizes - please download the Tour Notes for details.

In Egypt we provide fully trained, local English-speaking graduate Egyptologist guides to run your tour and escort you during all of the sightseeing in Cairo and the Nile Valley. We also have permanent local reps in all the main towns/cities and Red Sea resorts who are also at your service, and will be handling all the practical arrangements for the tour. We use local Bedouin guides for tours through the desert.

Whilst the majority of our tours are guided in English, we do offer a limited number of small group departures which are led by experienced Egyptologist guides fluent in French or Spanish. Notes are shown next to each departure date to highlight these. Guiding in other languages is also available on private departures (eg. German, Italian, Polish) - please contact us for details and quotations.

On some departures we may use one guide in Cairo, and a second guide if you are travelling between Aswan and Luxor.

At Encounters Travel we only use local Egyptian guides and reps. We feel this gives you the best experience of the country and the sites you are seeing. Please check our website for more details and profiles of some of our most famous Egyptian guides.

Our Small Group tours do not include entrance fees to the tourist sites mentioned in the itinerary. We do however normally include these in prices for Tailor-Made and Escorted tours. Please check the Inclusions and Exclusions section below the tour itinerary for a details about your tour and the amount you may need to budget. This amount is subject to change and will be reconfirmed in Egypt at the start of your tour. A 50% discount for minors or ISIC card holders is often, but not always available.

Your guide will be happy to collect payment for all the entrance fees at the start of the tour, and pay them for you as you go along if you wish. This payment is normally collected in US Dollars cash together with payment for any Tipping Kitty used on the tour, though you may also pay with Egyptian Pounds or other currencies, converted to USD. Local exchange rates are set on a monthly basis and based on local bank rates so may not match the exact rates you may find online on the day.

Passports should be valid for at least six months after your departure from the country. Please do not bring an almost full or almost expired passport. Visa arrangements are the responsibility of the traveller, and requirements are subject to change by the local authorities.

In general official advice is that all nationalities obtain their Egypt visas in advance, as we cannot guarantee that you can get them in the airport. An online e-visa is available through visa2egypt . Please do not use any other website as there are many scam sites offering Egypt e-visas. In practice however, many nationalities (including British and European, Australian, New Zealand, USA) can and do obtain their visas on arrival in Cairo airport. The process is much quicker and simpler, the cost is currently US$25 p/p and must be paid in hard currency (i.e. GBP, USD or EUR) - you'll be given change in local currency if necessary. There are no forms to fill in and you don't need to bring passport photos. Visas are issued at one of the bank desks in the immigration hall, before you get to passport control. Our representative will have met you by this stage and will assist with the process.

Imporant Note:  Due to recent changes in the visa regime for Canadians, a visa on arrival or e-visa will no longer be possible for Canadian Citizens entering Egypt after October 1st 2023. Until further notice Canadian passport holders must obtain a visa prior to arrival, from the nearest Egyptian Consulate. 

All African & Indian nationals, and some others, will need to obtain their visas in advance.

The local currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound, often denoted 'LE'. The Egyptian Pound can vary significantly in value against the British Pound, but sticks fairly close to the value of the US Dollar. You do not need to arrange to bring any Egyptian Pounds with you to Egypt, as change facilities are available in all the hotels, airports and banks. You should try to obtain and keep hold of small denomination notes or coins on you during the tour as these are useful for toilets, tips and small purchases. ATMs are readily available in major towns and many local shops will accept VISA/Mastercard or Amex, but may charge fees of up to 10% - check before you pay. Travellers cheques are not recommended as they can not be changed in many places now, and can incur high fees. While in Egypt you will need sufficient funds to cover meals not included in the itinerary, drinks, snacks, souvenirs and personal expenses such as laundry. These should generally all be paid for in Egyptian Pounds. You may also need to pay for the tour Tipping Kitty and site Entrance Fees while you are in Egypt. Payments for these may be made to your tour guide in hard currency (USD, GBP, EUR) at the start of your tour. Please see your tour Included/Excluded details for more information and guideline amounts for these.

It is difficult to recommend a level of personal spending money which will suit everyone as this can differ greatly, but as a guideline, we would suggest allowing USD 15-25 per person per day as a minimum. Allow more if you plan on doing lots of shopping, or buying many alcoholic drinks.

Tipping is very much a part of Egyptian culture and customs. To make our prices more transparent and so it is easier for you to budget and less hassle while in Egypt, on our small group tours we organise a ‘Tipping Kitty’ which needs to be paid as a local payment and will be around US$30-80 depending on the length of your trip. Payment is collected in US Dollars cash or can also be paid with Egyptian Pounds or other currencies converted to US Dollars at our local monthly exchange rate, or by credit card (3% fee). This kitty provides tips for a wide range of people you’ll meet along the tour including hotel porters, housekeeping staff, train and station staff, drivers, site guards, local reps etc. Please check the Included/Excluded notes below the tour itinerary for more information on how much to budget for this kitty.

Your Egyptologist guide (and Bedouin guides in the desert) is not included in this kitty and you may tip them at the end of your tour subject to your satisfaction with and appreciation of the service they have provided.  You should not feel obliged to tip any particular amount, and should consider your personal budget. We are often asked to provide a guide however, and can suggest that approx. USD 10-15 per person per day would be appropriate.

Children under the age of 12 do not need to pay this tipping kitty.

On private/tailor-made tours we can also arrange a tipping kitty if you wish, or you can tip people as you go along the tour. Your guide will be happy to help advise either way.

Luggage: Suitcases, rucksacks or fabric holdalls are all fine to bring with you to Egypt. You should also bring a small daypack/bag to take out during the day. Your main luggage will normally be left in the hotel during your sightseeing trips – you will not need to carry it far, and there are nearly always hotel porters to assist.

Luggage limits: There is no luggage limit for this tour. However, most airlines restrict you to between 20kg and 25kg for your hold luggage and between 5kg and 10kg for hand luggage. Please check with your airline before travelling to the airport.

Clothing: Most of your time in Egypt will be in a hot climate. However, at night, and especially in the deserts, the temperatures can drop quite dramatically. So you must pack for cool conditions. Formal dress (eg. suits & ties) is not required on the cruise boats or in 5-star hotel restaurants. Long sleeves are recommended to protect from mosquitoes if you are on the felucca. Modesty rates highly in Egypt, especially for women, so to respect the local culture & people, please ensure all clothes are loose fitting and not revealing. Shorts (not hot-pants) are OK in tourist sites, as are T-shirts, but these should not show too much bare flesh (we suggest that your shoulders should remain covered). In the centre of Cairo, and when visiting any mosques, legs and arms should be covered.

Other items: If you will be travelling on a felucca then we recommend bringing a light sleeping sheet or sleeping bag liner all year round for comfort, and a light sleeping bag in the winter months (November to February). We also recommend you bring a sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, a basic first aid kit, toiletries, small towel, money belt, small torch, camera & charger.

Travel insurance is compulsory on all of our tours and needs to cover personal accident & liability, medical expenses and repatriation, travel delay & abandonment. We also strongly recommend that you take out cover against cancellation and lost/stolen baggage. Personal medical insurance does not normally provide sufficient cover and is generally not suitable for travel on our tours. You will not be able to join your tour if you have not provided us with details of your insurance or if you arrive without cover in place (no refunds will be due in this event). More information...

You may arrange your own insurance, or you can take advantage of a comprehensive policy that we can arrange for you through Endsleigh Insurance which has been designed to be suitable for our tours. The policy is available to travellers of all nationalities and you do not need to live in the UK  to take out the policy. For full details of cover provided, prices and to apply for one of our policies, please complete travel insurance application form . Note: Any country that borders the Mediterranean is considered as 'Europe' for the purposes of travel insurance (including Turkey, Israel, Egypt and Morocco). If you are doing a tour that visits one country in 'Europe' and one that is 'Worldwide' (for example, an Egypt and Jordan tour), then you need a 'Worldwide' policy. When completing the form you should enter your travel dates including any extra days involved in overnight flights or connecting travel between your home and the tour. Our policies are not able to cover any extra time or activities other than your tour and options booked with us and your travel to & from home.

Note - to comply with insurance sales regulations, our travel insurance policies are only available to customers booking directly with us. If you have booked through a travel agent you will need to arrange your own insurance.

If your tour includes car hire, ior if you plan to arrange a hot air balloon flight locally or do some scuba diving during your tour, you should check the small print in your policy to make sure these are covered (these are covered in our policy). Please also check the maximum altitude that you will be reaching and that full cover including emergency evacuation is provided up to this altitude.

If you are taking expensive camera gear or other electronic equipment with you then please check the coverage and the fine print of your policy to ensure that you have sufficient cover.

IMPORTANT:  We must have your travel insurance details (policy number and type of insurance) before you depart or you may not be allowed to join the tour.  If you haven't told us already, please let us know the details when you can. You should take a paper copy of your insurance policy with you as you may be asked to show this at the start of the tour.

• Don't litter: No matter how untidy or dirty the country you're travelling in may look to you, avoid littering, as there is no need to add to the environment's stress. Many of the countries we visit have a tough challenge dealing with rubbish and waste. Please consider taking home as much plastic waste as you can (e.g. water bottles).
• Choose environmentally friendly products: By using environmentally friendly (bio degradable) sun creams, shampoos and detergents you can help reduce pollution.
• Respect local customs and traditions: As you are a guest in these countries, you should also comply with the local customs. If you are friendly and well mannered, the locals will reciprocate and it will only enhance your experience. It's important to follow dress and behaviour guidelines especially when visiting religious or sacred sites (your tour leader will advise you how best to do this).
• If a client commits an illegal act the client may be excluded from the tour and Encounters Travel shall cease to have responsibility to/for them. No refund will be given for any unused services.

We recommend you contact your GP/medical practitioner or a travel clinic for current information on vaccinations needed for your destination.  You should ensure that you are up to date with vaccines and boosters recommended for your normal life at home, including for example, vaccines required for occupational risk of exposure, lifestyle risks and underlying medical conditions. Note: We are aware of some places in Egypt using 'black henna' instead of pure brown henna. Black henna contains a chemical dye PPD (paraphenylenediamine) which can result in severe allergic reactions and resultant scarring. To be safe we recommend avoiding any henna tattoos while in Egypt unless you are certain they are using pure brown henna.

The time in Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon is GMT plus 2 hours and in UAE GMT plus 3 hours. Daylight saving adjustments have historically been applied in some years but not others. At present it appears that there will be no daylight saving changes in Egypt 2016 and beyond, though this may change at short notice (with a resulting impact on flight times and schedules). In Jordan and Israel, daylight saving of one hour is generally applied between the end of March and the end of October, making it GMT plus 3 hours. Exact dates vary from year to year and sometimes the changes may be scrapped altogether.

Sockets are two round pronged and 220 volts (Type C). Universal adaptors are available in most airport shops if you don't have one already. Standard European adapters will work fine, though sometimes they may feel a little loose in the sockets. All hotel rooms have electrical sockets where you can re-charge cameras, phones etc. Hair dryers are normally available on request from the hotel reception if not in your room already. If you have US appliances (110 volts) you will need a voltage converter as well as a plug adapter.

I started out pretty nervous but everything promised in the description of our Egypt adventure was delivered. From the TourRadar rep meeting us at the Cairo airport and getting us to the hotel. There was support throughout the 9 days. Our group guide Raemon was excellent. He tended to all the requests and special needs that came up with patience and kindness. Our Egypt experience exceeded our imagination. The schedule is full and sometimes hectic but absolutely worth it.

We had an unforgettable experience on this tour! It was amazing from start to finish. Our driver Bob was so lovely, making us feel safe in the crazy Cairo/Giza traffic! He gave us water and chocolate on arrival and departure which was such a nice touch. We met with Taher and Mohammed on our first night and Taher explained what was in store for the week. Koop was our tour guide in Cairo who was very knowledgeable and engaging. Our only regret is that a e would have enjoyed some free time at the pyramids to fully take it in but Koop was very kind to take lovely photos of us. We got to see how papyrus was made and visit an oil/perfume shop which were very interesting experiences. Just a heads up that you can feel obliged to purchase at times, especially in a small group, however the products are lovely and great to bring something traditional home. Personally we would have liked to have known about this as we had just thought we were getting a tour of the local workshops. Anas was our guide for the remainder of our trip, many thanks to him for a well run few days. It made our lives so much easier having all of the trips to temples etc arranged, and hearing all of the information from Anas. Anas was very much on top of scheduling and asked us for our preferences for what we wanted to do and when we wanted to do it. We had busy days with early starts for temple visits and the hot air balloon but it was so worth every second of it! Anas always ensured we knew what the plan was, arranged wake up calls and made sure we had plenty of water! The cruise was a great experience, lovely room, very attentive staff and a great selection of tasty food. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The only disappointing part of the tour was the sound and light show at Karnak temple. This was an optional tour which was quite expensive for what it was, the quality of the show was very disappointing so wouldn’t recommend. However the temple itself is spectacular and thoroughly enjoyed returning the next morning to see it in all its beauty. Being the largest temple of the trip it was extremely impressive from it’s towering obelisks to the peaceful sacred lake. The hot air balloon was breathtaking! An amazing experience which spectacular views! Watching the sun rise over the river Nile is a once in a lifetime experience. We also really enjoyed our trip to the Nubian village, it was very interesting to see this aspect of Egyptian culture and their pet crocodiles! We had a school lesson on Arabic and Nubian languages and how to spell and pronounce letters and our own names. We were also treated to some fresh local breads and an array of dips. We were given a complimentary horse and carriage tour of Luxor which was a lovely surprise and really appreciated Anas’ time for joining us after the tour had finished! He also treated us to a sugarcane drink which we had never tried before but it was delicious and very refreshing. Just to note that the tour guides tips aren’t included in the tipping paid online so this could be made more explicit to be aware of factoring in these tips too. Overall this was an amazing trip and couldn’t recommend highly enough. Thanks for making it such a special trip!

Pharaohs Nile Cruise Adventure - Return Intra-Flights Included

It was good. In the beginning, we had some issues with the lack of communication in El Cairo. We chose the sleeping train option from El Cairo to Luxor (included in the tour) but we spent 3-4 hours sitting in the train station when we could have done anything else. Also, we didn't know that the train didn't have showers and we were supposed to start the tour day in Luxor as soon as we arrived.... so if you are choosing the sleeping train option consider this, also that you share the bathroom with the people in the same wagon. Once we arrived on the cruise, everything went smoothly. The tour guide always took care of us, gave us tips, and explained everything well. The cruise was overall good, they gave you what you paid for. I do recommend the tour!

I cannot even begin to explain how happy we were with this tour. From the moment we booked, the company was extremely accommodating and responsive, answering all of our questions and helping us make additional arrangements for extra nights, tours, etc. There was some safety concerns going into it, but once we arrived we never felt unsafe. Everything was executed flawlessly. The moment we landed in Cairo they had everything under control, from meeting us at the airport and helping us get our visas and exchange our money until it was time to catch our flight home.. they didn't miss a beat. We laughed to ourselves a few times because it seemed they had anticipated what we were going to need before we even asked about it. We had a great group and our guide, Ramez, was a walking Wikipedia of Egyptian history. Having someone with that amount of knowledge really elevated the entire experience and made us appreciate what we were seeing even more. Really great action packed tour. To set expectations, this is not supposed to be a relaxing trip, but one that is continously on the go and some early starts if you take the optional add ons. The tour guide Anas (for majority of the trip) and Nur (our guide in Cairo) were amazing and very knowledgeable. You would be lucky to get them. The tour company itself was by far outstanding right from the day before of the trip to the very last day. You can't ask for more. They go out of the way to make everything perfect. Communication is always key and they were perfect in this area. This one trip is action packed with going to mainly see Temples (including most of the optionals) so bare this in mind. My favourite was one of the optional which was from Luxor and the temple name was Dandara. The hotels in Cairo was good and the one in Luxor amazing. However, the boat tour (ours was Princess Sarah) although advertised as 5 stars is to be questioned if this was really 5 stars or maybe 3 at best as no water was made available as complimentary and no wifi!!!

Day 1: Your 3 Days in Cairo Trip Begins: Enjoy the Best Sites of Cairo In Comfort and Style

When you arrive at Cairo International Airport for your 3 days in Cairo, you will be met and assisted by one of our tour managers who will then escort you in a clean and modern air-conditioned vehicle to your 5-Star hotel in the city. Once you arrive at your hotel, your tour manager will assist you so that you will have a smooth and hassle-free check in. After that, the two of you will review your tour itinerary and establish a pick-up time for the following day’s tour in Cairo.

Day 2: Explore Cairo and the Giza Pyramids with an Expert Guide

Enjoy breakfast at your Cairo hotel and then your tour guide and driver will meet you to accompany you on to Giza Plateau to complete your visit to some of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Visit the Great Pyramids of Cheops, the famous Sphinx, as well as the Pyramids of Chefren and Mykerinus. You will also visit the Valley temple which faces the great statue of the Sphinx.

Your lunch will be at a good local restaurant. After lunch we will move on to enjoy some time at the Egyptian Museum, where you will also be able to visit Tutankhamen’s Treasure room.

After spending some time at the museum, you will then move on to Coptic Cairo where you will visit the Hanging Church.

Today’s outing will end with a visit to lively Khan El Khalili Bazaar where people have been selling their wares ever since 1382. End the 2nd day of your 3 day Cairo trip with a relaxing evening back at your hotel.

Day 3: Your Three Day Cairo Tour Package Ends

Unfortunately, your 3 day Cairo break has now come to an end. Today is the day we will be parting ways, but not before you have had time to enjoy a lovely breakfast at your hotel. Once you are finished, it will be time to check out, and then your tour manager and our driver will escort you to the airport in cool and comfortable style.

And “Palm Royale,” an Apple TV original series set in Palm Beach in the 1960s , is the fourth-most watched show streaming on Apple TV+ as of April 1.

The show has a knock-out cast, starring Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas and Carol Burnett.

What is the new series about Palm Beach?

The first three episodes of “Palm Royale” released on Wednesday, March 20. 

The first four episodes are now streaming on Apple TV+ and a new episode will be released every Wednesday from now through Wednesday, May 8, when the tenth and final episode will hit Apple TV+.

The show follows Kristen Wiig’s character, Maxine Simmons, as she attempts to secure a place in 1960s Palm Beach high society. 

The show features recreations of locations that locals will recognize, although it was filmed in Los Angeles.

The series’ production designer told Country and Townhouse in a March interview that the country club in the show is a fictional one, inspired by several iconic, exclusive clubs in Palm Beach, like The Breakers , The Everglades Club and The Bath and Tennis Club.

Travel experts at vacation planning platform Islands.com noticed an uptick in interest for visiting Palm Beach following the release of “Palm Royale.” 

The team at Islands.com analyzed Google Search data and found that searches for "Palm Beach" and "Palm Royale" were up 1,150% just one week after the show’s premiere. Searches for “The Breakers Palm Beach” and “The Everglades Club” were also soaring, up 4,200% and 4,550%, respectively.

Founded in the 1890s by Henry Flagler, The Breakers is an Italian Renaissance-style hotel and piece of Florida history, occupying 140 acres of oceanfront property on the island of Palm Beach. 

The Breakers Palm Beach resort features a private beach, four oceanfront pools, six whirlpool spas, 10 restaurants, a golf course, an al fresco shopping plaza, a boutique hotel atop the resort and a family entertainment center. 

The five-star, luxury resort has hosted a menagerie of celebrities and America’s elite throughout the years, including Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth, Clark Gable, the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts and Astors, Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan, to name just a few.

“You can expect to pay over $900 per night for two adults at The Breakers. All in all, it's an over-the-top luxury stay,” according to Islands.com.

Have poolside lunch or stay at The Colony Hotel

For the “Barbie” lovers out there, this hotel is perfectly pink . This historical fixture on Palm Beach’s high-end waterfront first opened in 1947 and still offers an eclectic, luxury experience for guests.

This British Colonial-style hotel has been attracting socialites, celebrities and wealthy snowbirds for decades. 

It costs around $950 each night to book a stay at The Colony , according to Islands.com.

The Colony offers a Florida resident discount, but you don’t have to pay to stay at the hotel to enjoy its pretty pink aesthetics.

The Colony Hotel’s Pink Paradise cafe – yes, that’s its real name – offers coffee, pastries and breakfast and lunch menu items from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.  If you really want to feel like you’re in a scene of “Palm Royale,” book a poolside meal at Swifty’s Restaurant at The Colony.

Walk and window shop on Worth Avenue

Worth Avenue runs through Palm Beach, from Lake Worth Lagoon, to the Atlantic Ocean, is only steps from The Colony and boasts around a half mile of luxury storefronts, art galleries and upscale al fresco dining (one of Martha Stewart’s favorite places to eat in Palm Beach is on Worth Avenue).

Worth Avenue hosts a historic walking tour every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m . According to Islands.com, the tour focuses on Worth Avenue’s impact on fashion in Palm Beach, which is heavily reflected in “Palm Royale.”
