Ratings and Reviews

Looks fairly good but weather doesn’t work.

The app seems quite good overall, lots of good info against each day of the holiday. Also a chat feature to communicate with other members of the group. Just a shame the weather facility doesn’t allow you to add any locations, so that part is utterly useless! Good overall though.

After bumpy booking!enquiring about a holiday for…

After enquiring about a holiday for 2025, I was promised I’d be contacted as soon as dates became available. That failed to happen. Luckily I had been browsing and discovered the dates were live. Booking was less than smooth and required a number of attempts to get it sorted. Definitely not impressed!

Successful tour reservation

I have just made a booking for this great tour and the customer service was very efficient and satisfactory. Even though there were some hiccups on the website to make payment, the sales agents were there to assist. Thanks.

Following a very brief ‘press 1 for, press 2 for’ preliminary response when I have phoned, on each occasion I have been put through to a very knowledgable member of staff. All my questions have been answered during the conversation or, if needed, the member of staff confirmed that they would need to speak to a colleague in the adjacent department and call me back. On each occasion this had happened in a very timely manner. It’s a pleasure to speak to such helpful employees in person.

Experience of previous trips helped us decide on this one

We have travelled with Great Rail Journeys previously and have always had a good experience, therefore we had no hesitation in contacting your company again. Also on this occasion we had a very helpful young man Paul, who dealt with our queries very professionally and was able to hold the proposed trip for a couple of days. We were then able to speak with Paul again to book the trip and everything was explained very well indeed.

Grand Tour of Vietnam and Cambodia

We have just returned from an 18 day Grand Tour of Vietnam and Cambodia with GRJ. Our tour guide Jane Cotz was outstanding in her friendly efficiency and generous offers of help if any were needed: she worked tirelessly but always with a genuine smile. Couldn't have asked for a nicer guide. The co-travellers were great company and looked out for each other on a trip which , by virtue of the long distances travelled by train or coach, could be tiring. The corollary of so much time spent in transit was that we saw a great deal of Vietnam , the Mekong Delta and parts of Cambodia. A trip to remember!

GRJ Holiday to Southern India and Kerala

As with all our GRJ holidays we prefer to speak to an operative to book our desired holiday. Before we speak to anyone we always research the holiday first checking on the holiday itinerary along with the hotels being used as well as their locations just in case this should raise any questions, which in this case there were none. We then spoke to GRJ's Thomas who went through everything with us and fully confident that this was the holiday we wanted we went ahead and booked it there and then.

Good booking process

I have recently booked a trip to India for later this year. I phoned and spoke to Simon who was really helpful and answered my questions to enable me to feel confident in booking with this company.

Easy and speedy to book online. Clear documentation arrived straightaway. Now looking forward to the trip.

A big thank you!

The people I have spoken to have all been extremely polite, helpful and patient with me. At 80yrs of age I asked many seemingly stupid questions but you kindly explained everything and made me feel a valued customer.

Michael Portillo with a beach and pier behind him

I am delighted to present a third series of Great Coastal Railway Journeys. I hugely enjoyed meeting inspiring people and hearing the history and legends of our coastline. — Michael Portillo

BBC Two and Naked West (a Fremantle label) have announced the return of the beloved Great Coastal Railway Journeys with host Michael Portillo, as he invites viewers to join him on a new railway adventure.

Returning to BBC Two, this series will follow Michael as he embarks on a journey around the shores of the British Isles and beyond, exploring the diverse landscapes, rich history and unique cultures found along the coastline. Reaching from the petrified forest in Borth, Wales to the picturesque Tresco Abbey in the Isles of Scilly and across to the sea defences of the east coast, Michael discovers the hidden treasures of Britain’s coastal towns and cities. He investigates their connection to the sea, along with the forces of nature and history that have shaped them.

The exploration does not stop there, as Michael takes viewers across the English Channel to Northern France to visit the coastal Pas de Calais. Riding up front in the Eurostar cab, Michael enjoys fantastic views of the tunnel snaking ahead and emerges into the bright light of France, where he presents and intriguing glimpse into the culture and heritage of our continental neighbours.

Weaving through charming seaside towns, historic landmarks and natural wonders, Great Coastal Railway Journeys takes viewers on a fascinating adventure. From discovering the prehistoric secrets of Lyme Regis, uncovering the historic coastlines of Kent and delving into the treacherous waters off the Norfolk coast, each episode promises to immerse viewers in the beauty of Britain’s coastal regions, all accessible by train.

Scenic Class Experience

Glide through the heart of New Zealand’s beautiful scenery in Scenic Class carriages, with epic landscape views filling your window while you relax in your seat.

In Scenic Class you’ll experience spacious reclined seats with generous amounts of legroom and comfort, panoramic windows, glass shelves and skylights. And to heighten your comfort, state-of-the-art airbag suspension has been used to guarantee a smooth ride across our rugged New Zealand terrain.

While onboard, you might like a stroll to the Scenic Cafe carriage where you’ll find a great selection of hot and cold snacks, drinks and ice creams. Indulge in a freshly brewed specialty tea or barista coffee married with a sumptuous cake? Or perhaps toast your special journey with a bottle of bubbles?

The Scenic Cafe opens for coffee and breakfast before the train departs and continues serving throughout the day. You can take a seat in the Scenic Cafe carriage and feast upon the views whilst eating. But you are also welcome to return to your seat to dine and drink if you would prefer. The day is yours to do as you choose!

During the hot summer months, the open-air viewing carriage is a great place to get some fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors while on the move. You can whittle away the hours chatting and gazing out upon spectacular scenery and wildlife. It is also that perfect place for capturing those magical views on camera.

Learn the stories of our land while you travel by plugging into the Scenic Class audio commentary at your seat. The commentary provides a seamless stream of stories, narratives and facts about the places outside your window and is available on all three Scenic Class services.
