Nice -- Norway is on our list too. I don't think that I have too many ship pictures (more food pictures   🙂  ) ; I do have our cabin. I'll look and post what I find tonight.

Thank you @tammyjw305  . I did read your blog and loved it . We first visited Norway in 2013 on the Carnival Legend mainly for the itinerary and shared it on CC . We last visited there in 2019 and went to the Geiranger Falls from a ferry boat from Alesund before seeing Iceland. Our upcoming trip on the Star will finish up in Reyjavik where we plan on staying for 8 days . If you would  like to see some of our 2013 visit to Trollstigen from Alesund you can find it at this link . Thanks again for sharing your cruise and happy cruising !

My favorite aft MDR aft windows with wake, also in the formal MDR, Le Bistro, Moderno, Cagney's, and O'Sheehan's with our rescue from the ice field container ship.

Not a normal view, but I was surprised how busy the crew area was, so from the TV,

Iceberg from a top deck. There was a lot of good outdoor viewing space and a full promenade, that we enjoy walking.

We've got this one scheduled for August 2024.  What were the temperatures like?  14 days is an awful lot of sweatshirts, and lots of luggage.

@tammyjw305

Your blog was really good. Nice photos too. Thanks for sharing.

Loved reading your review. Nice to see your photos from Isjafjord.  Sailing the prima, we obviously missed that one in August.   I am glad I was not the only one who thought crossing into the arctic circle, even just for a very brief time, was a big deal!

It was normally 50s or 60s. It was nice sunny days our first two days in Iceland. Then cloudy and windy the next, so cooler. Cooler in Greenland. I took 2 long sleeves shirts and 4 short sleeve shirts and layered the short sleeves with repeat jackets/sweaters.

Isafjordur was a nice sunny day too and pretty. You missed it due to weather or because the Prima is big?

I don't think it stopped there at all this season due to the dock not being finished.

Ah, okay. We tendered. There was one dock with a container ship. Our tour guide said that we could have docked, but the container ship was not there. I only heard of it being a tender port, so I was not sure if that was really true.

Awesome review! We are sailing on the Star end of May for Iceland & Norway (no Greenland ). Pics of the icebergs were amazing. And y’all looked so cold, even in July. I’m so glad I bought a new puffy, warm coat and mittens

Have fun on your next adventure

Thanks! It was a great trip. You will love it. Yes, picking between a warm coat and a raincoat was hard. We had some Smart Wool balaclavas and hat that helped too.

Thanks

Hello! Great review. Question: We are planning on doing this trip in 2025 with a 10 year old. Were there other kids on board? Was the Kids Club open? We're afraid we'll have the only child on the ship which might be a deal breaker for now... Thanks!

Hi -- I don't remember well since we did not take our kids. There were definitely not many, many kids. I suspect that they would run the kids' club, but how many other kids would they get to hang out with would be the question. Not all kids like almost 1:1 attention. I tried to check our Roll Call to see who mentioned bringing kids and their ages; however, I could not find find it anymore. I recommend looking at the roll calls for the dates that work for you and see if they mention bringing kids and/or ask if they are to get an idea.

Port of Call Port of Call (Arrival, Departure)

norwegian star iceland and greenland cruise

Reykjavik, on the coast of Iceland, is the country's capital and largest city. It's home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history. The striking concrete Hallgrimskirkja church and rotating Perlan glass dome offer sweeping views of the sea and nearby hills. Exemplifying the island’s volcanic activity is the geothermal Blue Lagoon spa, near the village of Grindavik.

Grundarfjordur

norwegian star iceland and greenland cruise

Grundarfjorour is a small town, situated in the north of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in the west of Iceland. It is situated between a mountain range and the sea. The nearby mountain Kirkjufell forms a small peninsula.

norwegian star iceland and greenland cruise

Akureyri is a city at the base of Eyjafjorour Fjord in northern Iceland. In the center, the 1940 Akureyri Church has stained-glass windows portraying scenes from Icelandic Christian history. There are views of the fjord from the forecourt. Nearby, the Akureyri Art Museum displays contemporary art from Iceland and farther afield. To the south are the Botanical Gardens, with specimens from across Iceland.

Kristiansund

norwegian star iceland and greenland cruise

Almost entirely destroyed by World War II, the coastal town of Kristiansund N is spread over three islands and has been rebuilt into a modern city. Today it's the main service base for oil activities on the mid-Norwegian continental shelf. The Draugen and Åsgåd oil fields lie off its coast. With a population of 17,000 citizens, Kristiansund makes a good stopover for those who have made it all the way to the fjord country's northern outposts. The city itself looks dull and modern, although the setting is panoramic. Its harbor is one of the finest along the western coast of Norway. Since the 18th century, Kristiansund is often written with an "N," so visitors won't confuse it with the largest city along the southern coast of Norway -- Kristiansand S. In its early days, cod fishing was the mainstay of its industry. A drying process took place on shore, producing klippfish or dried cod, which kept many a homeowner in food for the winter.

Maloy is one of the coastal towns located on hilly Vagsoy Island at the entrance to the Nordfjord. Maloy is the premier fishing port on the western coast, and lies close to the important fishing grounds in the North-Atlantic. They export a wide range of canned and semipreserved products.

norwegian star iceland and greenland cruise

Alesund is a port town on the west coast of Norway, at the entrance to the Geirangerfjord. It’s known for the art nouveau architectural style in which most of the town was rebuilt after a fire in 1904, as documented at the Jugendstilsenteret museum. There are panoramic views of Ålesund’s architecture, the surrounding archipelago and fjords from the Mount Aksla lookout.

norwegian star iceland and greenland cruise

Husavik is a town in Norourping municipality on the north coast of Iceland on the shores of Skjalfandi bay with 2,182 inhabitants. The most famous landmark of the town is the wooden church Husavikurkirkja, built in 1907.

norwegian star iceland and greenland cruise

Isafjorour is a town in the Westfjords region of northwest Iceland. It's known for its dramatic landscapes. The old town has wooden houses with corrugated tin roofs built by fishing merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Westfjords Heritage Museum has exhibits on the town’s maritime history, including a collection of old fishing boats. The old hospital, now a cultural center, contains archives and photography.

Specialty Dining

Le Bistro:  Have it au poivre or just go straight for the bouillabaisse at our signature French restaurant. Elegant interiors and attentive servers make this an intimate dining experience reminiscent of a Parisian café. By the end of your meal, you’ll might just be proclaiming c’est magnifique! This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Cagney's Steakhouse:  Steak is the standard at our American-style steakhouse. Sip your favorite cocktail as you select from choice cuts of Certified Angus Beef® perfectly prepared. And don’t forget to order Cagney's famous truffle fries. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

La Cucina:  Enjoy the flavors of the Tuscan countryside at tables with room for old friends and new. Dine on classic dishes where you can taste the freshness of every tomato used to make an exquisitely delicious sauce. Try a twist on a classic like shrimp fettuccine, or keep it purist with a osso bucco. Just when you think you’re out, they’ll pull you back in with a toasty espresso and some macadamia nut ice cream. Delizioso! This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Moderno Churrascaria:  If you’re looking for a unique experience, our authentic Brazilian steakhouse is a must. Start with an impressive salad bar of imported cheeses, olives, cured meats, ceviche and specialty salads. Be sure to save room for the delicious skewers of slow-roasted meats including beef, pork, lamb and chicken. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Teppanyaki:  Flying shrimp. Onion volcanoes. Twirling knives. The sizzles and surprises never cease at our authentic Japanese Hibachi restaurant. Sit around a lively shared table as a skillful chef slices, chops and grills steak, seafood and chicken on a large steel grill right before your eyes. The chilled, sake-infused Wasabi Cocktail will have you flipping too. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Sushi and Sake Bar:  Ginza Asian Restaurant also has a Sushi and Sashimi Bar where you can enjoy the very best sushi and sashimi expertly prepared as you watch. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

The Bake Shop:  Indulge your sweet tooth with decadent treats available à la carte, such as French macaroons, chocolate pralines, and cupcakes. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Java Café:  For that double, vanilla, extra hot latte with extra foam, the Java Café is at your service with a wide variety of specialty coffees, teas, pastries and cookies. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Casual Dining

Ginza:  Enjoy a complimentary Asian Fusion dining venue featuring freshly prepared noodles, delicious wok fried dishes, authentic soups, and more.

Market Café/Kid's Café:  This indoor buffet offers an extraordinary selection of family friendly international fare and an additional dining area that's just right for the pint size crowd.

O'Sheehan's:  Dine on reinvented Irish pub classics while sipping your favorite draft beer, all in a casual atmosphere open 24 hours a day. There's no cover charge to dig into your favorite comfort foods and savory Daily Specials, such as Prime Rib and All-You-Can-Eat Ribs.

Room Service:  If you can't come to the restaurant, Norwegian will bring the restaurant to you. Norwegian offers a menu of items that can be delivered to your stateroom. Room service is available 24-hours a day (a convenience charge applies to each order placed).
