Reviews of The Best 12V Heated Blankets

1.schumacher 12v heated travel blanket.

best 12V Heated blanket

  • Ideal for cars, SUVs, RVs, and trucks
  • Can also be used as a seat warmer
  • Manual shut off only

Before mentioning anything else, let’s just get this out of the way – the Schumacher heated travel blanket does not have any automatic temperature settings or a timer function.

Even then, it found its way onto our list. Why?

This is a great blanket to have if you want to keep the heating on all night. Although there’s no electronic controller, you do get an indicator light. To turn the blanket on, plug it into the socket, and check whether the LED light is on.

If the light does not turn on, the unit is not connected properly. Once it switches on, you can expect it to start heating after a few minutes.

It draws 3.7 amps, so be careful about leaving it on all night.

Overall, we think this is a great blanket for areas where the temperature is not very cold.

Advantages:

  •  Works for a longer duration This heating blanket is a great gift for people who don’t need timers. This basic product works exceptionally well to keep you warm at nights while drawing a relatively low amount of current.
  • LED indicator light You’ll have no problem in telling whether the blanket is on thanks to the LED light. If the light is on, the blanket has already started heating up.

Disadvantages:

  • Takes a while to heat up This heated blanket takes a while to get warm enough. You can expect it to take approximately half an hour to heat enough to keep you warm.

2.Sojoy 12V Electric Travel Blanket

Sojoy 12V Electric Travel Blanket

  • Fast heat-up
  • Includes a shut-off timer
  • Equipped with a thermostat and a three-level heat control system

This 12V heated blanket by Sojoy ticks all the right boxes. The dimensions (60” x 30”) are large enough to cover two adults.

It is a soft, comfortable polyester fleece blanket and remains warm even when the power supply is not on. This material acts as an additional layer of insulation.

You get three levels of heat control. The blanket draws just 3.7 amps on the highest settings and reaches temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

This 12V electric blanket comes equipped with a shutoff timer. You can set it for 30/45/60 minutes to prevent your vehicle’s battery from draining if you fall asleep under this comfortable blanket.

Overall, this is a great blanket with exceptional heating capabilities for people on a budget.

  • Battery saving timer This is a handy feature to have. Simply set a timer to turn the heating mechanism in the blanket off. You won’t have to wake up to turn the blanket off. Or if you doze off the auto shut off function will save your car’s battery.
  • Good material and design As mentioned, this blanket is very soft and warm at the same time. Even when not connected to the power socket, it is extremely warm. The plaid design makes it even more attractive to have on board.
  •  There aren’t any!  This is a phenomenal product, to say the least. It’s affordable and extremely functional. It is easily one of the best-heated blankets in the market right now.

3.Stalwart Electric Heated 12 Volt Fleece Blanket

Stalwart Electric Heated 12 Volt Fleece Blanket

  • Long 96-inch cor
  • Lightweight and easy to use
  • Quick heat technology

This blanket comes with a longer-than-average power cable that measures 96 inches. It offers extra distance helping you reach remote corners of your vehicle (small or big).

It comes equipped with thin wires to keep it heated once connected to a power outlet. You also get a carry case to keep the blanket packed away when not in use.

Its soft and fleecy polyester material keeps you warm even when it is not plugged in. However, it is important to note that you don’t get any temperature control settings with this unit.

To sum things up, we recommend this heated blanket if you need one with a lengthy power cord and good heating capacity.

  • Low cost This 12V electric blanket is a reliable option, no doubt. You get a great product for a price that’s substantially lower than the other blankets available on the market.
  • Quick heating system Within a few minutes, you’ll start to feel the heat generated by this heating blanket. This makes it a great emergency blanket when paired with its reasonable cost.
  • No timer included If you want a blanket for regular bedtime use, this may not be the best choice. It doesn’t have a timer so you’ll end up getting out of bed more often.
  • No temperature control This may not be an issue considering the affordable price but if you need a controlled environment in your car, this may not be the electric blanket for you.

4.Roadpro 12-Volt Polar Fleece Heated Blanket

Roadpro 12-Volt Polar Fleece Heated Blanket

  • 100% polar fleece sure to keep you warm
  • LED indicator on the plug
  • 8-foot power cord, ideal for smaller vehicles

Let’s start with the size of this blanket. Its dimensions are 58 by 42.5 inches, making it an ideal family model. If you prefer traveling with your significant other or your family, this is the best heating solution to keep them warm.

Although the material itself is pleasantly warm, you can connect it to your car’s cigarette lighter socket to enjoy it at its best. The blanket generates temperatures up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Coming to the energy draw, there are more efficient variants available. Yet, this electric blanket’s 4.6-amp draw does not run down your battery when used sparingly.

It is good for your battery life but, unfortunately, does not come with any other noteworthy features. The power cord is just 8 feet long.

This electric blanket is a good option if you want a basic heating blanket to keep you warm for a long time.

  • Low power consumption This blanket draws less power than most others. You can enjoy its warmth for a few hours at least without draining your vehicle’s battery.
  • Impressive size You can enjoy its warmth with your loved ones without worrying about the space.
  • No special features Don’t expect a lot of exciting features with this blanket. It is a good heating blanket but does not come with temperature control settings nor an auto shut-off system.

5.Car Cozy 2 – 12-Volt Heated Blanket

One of the best 12V heated blanket

  • Automatic shut-off functionality included
  • Plugs into any 12V power outlet
  • Made with 100% high-quality polyester fleece

If you’re looking for a super-soft heating blanket that you can take on road trips, this Car Cozy 2 12V Heated Blanket is for you.

It warms up within minutes and its size lets it easily accommodate two people.

With this heating blanket, you get its patented safety timer. Set it to 30 or 45 minutes, and the heating mechanism will be automatically cut off after the set time. This lets you sleep without having to worry about turning the heated blanket off to prevent your vehicle from running out of juice.

Alongside the timer, you’ll find a reset button and automatic temperature control. Also, you can easily check if it’s working thanks to the LED indicator light.

You get an average power draw of 4 amps and an 84-inch power cord with this amazing product. If you ask us, the Car Cozy 2 blanket has it all.

  • Timer, reset button, and automatic temperature control Simply slide the timer button to set it to 30 or 45 minutes based on your needs. After the set time, the machine turns off automatically allowing you to sleep without any distraction. You also get a reset button on the top right corner of the remote.
  • LED power light Some heated blankets are not easy to use right from the beginning. There’s no way to know whether they’re on until they start warming up. But this 12V heated blanket comes with an LED light to indicate that it is on.
  • A bit pricey This product is on the expensive side when it comes to heated blankets. But for all the great features, we would not mind spending a few more dollars on this one.

6.Maxsa Innovations Large Heated Blanket

Maxsa Innovations Large Heated Blanket

  • Durable and long-lasting design
  • Available in multiple colors and patterns
  • Automatic timer

There is so much going on with the Maxsa Innovations Heated Blanket that we don’t know where to start. It measures 41 x 57 inches and is big enough to cover two individuals.

Thanks to its automatic timer, you won’t have to worry about battery drainage due to leaving it on all night. Before you sleep just set the timer to 30 or 45 minutes and press the power button. The timer will automatically turn off the device after the selected duration.

Also, it has an in-built 10-amp fuse to ensure it doesn’t draw too much current and overheat. This is important in RVs since they have more flammable materials than typical houses. This electric blanket draws just 4 amps from your battery, so there won’t be any drainage unless you use it excessively.

It takes around 15 minutes to heat up but after that it holds the heat well.

  • 84-inch power cord This 12V heated blanket comes with a long and extremely useful power cable. This means you can easily use it to keep you warm even if you’re at a distance from your vehicle.
  • Built-in safety fuse and timer To prevent it from overheating, the fuse goes off if the current exceeds 10 amps. This saves battery and stops the product from overheating.
  • At the higher end of the price range You will end up spending a lot on this heated blanket. But it does come with several important safety features that justify its price.

7.Camco Polar Fleece Heated Blanket

Camco Polar Fleece Heated Blanket

  • Low amperage draw saves battery
  • A great addition to your car’s emergency kit
  • 100% polar fleece

With a heavy-duty 84-inch power cord that plugs into your dash or any 12V outlet, the Camco heated blanket measures 43 x 59 inches. It easily covers two people or wraps around an individual multiple times.

Automatic shut-off is a great addition for any heated blanket, but it’s not essential. If you don’t necessarily need this feature, then the CAMCO heated blanket may be a good fit for you.

This blanket does take a while to get heated, drawing slightly more power than some other electric blankets on our list.

Besides consuming more power, you also don’t get the choice of switching the heat settings. While there are other models with exceptional capabilities, this is a good option if you’re looking for a budget model.

  • Soft and warm fabric Made from soft polyester fleece material, even if it is not turned on, the blanket’s material will still keep you thoroughly warm.
  • Heavy-duty power cord Not many heated blankets come with such a long power cord. You can easily connect it to the cigarette lighter socket in your car and use it anywhere in the vehicle.
  • Not energy-efficient Most 12V heated blankets draw up to 3 amps of current. But this one from Camco sucks up a lot of your vehicle’s battery with a draw of 5 amps.

8.Zento Deals Electric Heated Car 12V Blanket

Zento Deals Electric Heated Car 12V Blanket

  • Adjustable temperature
  • Wires that warm up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Starts warming up instantly

This heated blanket works perfectly for travelers and working individuals. Whether you’re traveling on a cold night or driving to work on a chilly morning, this product is just what you need to keep you warm.

It heats up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and offers temperature control too. So you can easily adjust the heat level to suit yourself.

The blanket’s dimensions are 56 x 40 inches which leaves enough room to cuddle with your loved ones.

What we liked about this heated blanket was its safety. The approved wires used in it are extremely safe and nonflammable.

Overall, this product gets a big thumbs up from us despite its expensive price.

  • Temperature control With this heated blanket, you can adjust the temperature to your liking up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This is not a common feature that you’ll come across in 12V heated blankets.
  • Safe wiring This product boasts approved wires that ensure maximum safety. These wires don’t burn.
  • A bit expensive The Zento Deals heated blanket is quite expensive. But when you look at the plethora of features it boasts, its high price is automatically justified.

9.Electrowarmth Twin Heated Pad

Electrowarmth Twin Heated Pad

  • No fumes or noise
  • Radiates heat from below
  • Low amp draw

Going on a long journey?

The Electrowarmth twin heated pad makes a great companion to take with you. It radiates heat from underneath letting you pass out in a peaceful slumber. A few improvements have come in since the initial release, but that just proves the brand’s determination to serve their customers.

The relaxing sensation helps relieve pain and stiffness. The manufacturer also claims that the product provides relief from body aches due to arthritis and fibromyalgia.

When you drive a truck, the struggle of taking a break is a menace. Stopping every few hours to stay warm can turn a rather short trip into a long painful journey.

To operate the warning pad, you get multiple comfort control levels. With levels from one to seven, it offers maximum temperature control.

What we liked was this product is hand washable and comes in many sizes to fit any mattress.

  • Multiple sizes available When it comes to heated blankets, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. With this model, you get to pick from five different sizes.
  • 30-day money-back guarantee In addition to the one year warranty, you get a 30-day money-back guarantee. If the product does not function properly due to a manufacturing defect, you’ll get a full refund.
  • Fuel-saving Instead of idling the truck for a little warmth, you can plug in this pad to remain warm without burning a lot of fuel.
  • Longer heating time This pad takes a while to start heating. So we recommend turning it on half an hour in advance.

Buyers Guide to Pick the Best 12V Heated Blanket

After you’ve bought a vehicle, buying a heating blanket may not seem like a big deal. However, you’ll rely on the blanket to keep you warm during long chilly rides. This makes it even more important to choose the right one.

There are many things you must consider before investing in a heated blanket. Some of these factors include the cost, size, shut-off mechanism, and the length of cord.

Factors to Consider Before Buying a Heated Blanket

You’ll be surprised to see that there are quite a few aspects to consider when buying a heated blanket. Let’s see what they are.

One of the deciding factors is the cost of the heated blanket. You don’t necessarily need to invest in an expensive heating blanket for your vehicle. Just get one that fits your budget and can keep you warm on road trips.

Spending more on over-the-top blankets is not recommended unless you’re a frequent traveler and can afford it.

Generally, the basic heated blankets will cost you anywhere between $30 to $50. But it is not guaranteed that getting a more expensive blanket will get you more features. So keep an eye out for the specifications and don’t pay more than the product offers you

Power Supply

Do you intend to use the blanket only in your vehicle or do you want to be able to use it at home too?

If you want a versatile option, look for a heated blanket that comes with different socket attachments. This is an easy way to get the most out of a heating blanket instead of leaving it in the trunk of your vehicle.

Most 12V heated blankets only connect to your car’s lighter socket. A multi-purpose blanket will, however, connect to both AC/DC sockets. This feature may increase the average cost of the blanket but will make a lot of difference.

Additionally, you can charge the battery at any power outlet with a flexible socket.

Automatic Shut-Off

Some heated blankets come with the auto shut-off feature. It kicks into action when the temperature rises above a specified level or after a period of time. This is extremely helpful since you don’t need to turn the blanket off repeatedly.

Not many 12V electric blankets include this amazing feature. Yet we’ve done our best to find the ones which do have the automatic shut-off capability for a reasonable price.

An average shut-off duration is 30-minutes. The electric blankets including this feature typically reach a good heating temperature and then turn off themselves to avoid overheating. Make sure you get a heated blanket with the auto shut-off feature to avoid the consequences.

Temperature Control and Heats Levels

Most 12V heated blankets have just an on and off switch. This doesn’t give you much control over the temperature.

If you like monitoring the temperature in your vehicle, this is not enough.

For people who like to be in control, we highly recommend getting a heating blanket with at least dual temperature settings – high and low.

The more heat settings you get with the electric blanket, the more temperature control you’ll have in your car.

This is a rare feature in 12V electric blankets especially when you’re on a budget. Yet, we’ve found a few affordable options for you.

Heating Speed

A heated blanket won’t be much help if it takes too long to start heating up. This makes it important to look at the speed of heating, especially if you’re driving in low-temperature regions. If you drive a truck, a fast-heating blanket can make a big difference. Of course, if it takes a little longer than you’d like, you can preheat the blanket before a trip to ensure that it is warm when you are ready to travel.

The Material and Comfort

Heated blankets come in various materials and sport attractive designs. Pick a blanket that is at least a little warm when it is not connected to a power supply.

Fabrics like polyester fleece are good enough to keep you warm on a road trip.

This may not be a critical aspect if the blanket is just a part of an emergency kit. In this case, get a blanket that heats quickly and effectively keeps your body heated during emergencies.

If you’re using it most of the time, you can get a heated blanket that matches your car’s interiors.

Length of Power Cord

The cable length is as important as temperature control. There is no point in owning a blanket if it does not reach your vehicle’s backseat to keep the passengers warm. Or if you own an RV and the electric cord does not reach the seating area.

Heated blanket cords are up to 8 feet long and sometimes come with extensions. The length of the cord must be enough to reach the right spot. For example, a shorter cable may not reach the back of your SUV. There’s no reason to own such a blanket as it won’t keep your passengers warm as intended.

Power Consumption

How long can you operate the blanket without draining your vehicle’s battery?

This is a big factor you cannot ignore. If the blanket draws too much charge, steer clear of it, especially if you expect to use the blanket for long periods of time.

A quality heated blanket has the potential to turn a long cold drive into a fun trip. Make sure you look at all the specifications and then decide. It is also recommended to weigh the product’s cost against all the features you get. There’s no point in paying more if the product has nothing to offer.

Invest wisely so you can count on it to keep you warm for a long time.

Keep Yourself Warm When RV/Tent Camping With A Portable Electric Heated Blanket

Camping has always been a big part of my life.

My earliest memory of RV camping is when I went on a trip with my grandparents. Back then, I only went camping during the summer when it was warm.

Now I travel full time in my travel trailer and have to deal with cold winter nights in the camper.

Since I boondock/dry camp 95% of the time, I can’t run the furnace all night since it would kill my trailer batteries within a couple of hours.

I bought a portable heated blanket that can keep both my wife and me warm in the camper when it’s cold.

Today I am going to share the knowledge I gained about heated blankets because I did a lot of research and figured I could help other campers out there as well.

I’m also going to share how you can power a heated blanket with a solar charged power station .

If you already have a portable battery, make sure it has a pure sine wave inverter before plugging in your blanket.

If you have questions, please leave a comment and I will do my best to help you out, now let’s get cozy with a heated blanket.

Best Portable Heated Blankets Review

1. stalwart 12v electric car blanket.

Check Price at Amazon

A popular little 12V heated blanket is this one by Stalwart. It’s a fleece throw travel blanket that comes in a couple of different colors.

They’re all the same size, 59 by 43 inches, so it’s not a massive blanket but will still be large enough for a medium-sized adult.

Since it’s a 12V electric blanket, it has a cigarette plug on the end, which makes it easy to use in a car, van, or RV.

It only uses up to 50W, so it won’t be a problem for the alternator.

The power cord is 96 inches long.

The low wattage also makes it compatible with a lot of small portable power stations. It also doesn’t require an inverter since it uses 12 volt power.

That means you can power it using a small power station or directly from a 12 volt battery using a cigarette lighter socket with alligator clamps (click to view on Amazon) .

Many RVs already have a cigarette lighter socket directly connected to the battery. So you can use it when you’re boondocking/dry camping.

While the Stalwart blanket only has one heating setting, the one setting it has is very warm, so it will keep you comfortable when it’s cold inside your RV camper or tent.

The Stalwart is not machine washable, and should only be spot cleaned.

Overall, the Stalwart 12V Electric Car Blanket is an affordable heated blanket that doesn’t have any frills. It will heat and stay warm until you unplug it.

It doesn’t have any heat settings or an automatic turnoff. The power cord is long with a 12V cigarette plug at the end.

The 12 volt power makes it one of the more versatile electric travel blankets in this review.

  • Uses 12 Volt Power
  • 12V Cigarette Plug
  • Can Be Powered By Any 12V Outlet
  • 8 Foot Power Cord
  • Only 50W Power Usage
  • Only 1 Setting
  • Not Machine Washable
  • Only 1 Size Option
  • No Auto Shut Off

2. The Cozee Battery Operated Heated Blanket

If you want a truly portable heated blanket for camping that is battery powered, the Cozee is one of the few options that actually uses its own battery.

This heated blanket comes with a 96.2 watt-hour lithium battery that powers not only the blanket, but two USB ports as well so you can keep electronics charged.

Being 96Wh means you can bring it on an airplane (TSA’s limit is 100Wh) which makes it perfect for travelers.

So how long does the battery last? About five hours.

It can be charged either with the AC wall plug or the included 12V car charger.

It will also stay on longer than five hours if you leave it plugged in.

There are three heat levels: low, medium, and high.

The blanket measures 60 by 60 inches, so it’s large enough to keep an adult warm and cozy, while also being small enough to be portable.

Perfect for the colder evening and nights out by the campfire.

Cozee offers a 1-year warranty and advertises that you can remove the battery and wash the blanket in a machine.

It is water-resistant so you can feel safe taking it outdoors. Just like most other blankets above, there is a safety shutoff.

So is the the Cozee the portable heated blanket for you?

Well, it’s the most portable heated blanket in this review.

It also comes with some good extra features, like USB ports, a 96.2Wh lithium battery, and a cozy micro-fleece interior.

It’s great not only for camping but for those outdoor sporting events on a cold fall evening, or wherever you find yourself freezing and wishing for a battery-powered blanket.

  • Wall, car charger included
  • 3 heat settings
  • Auto shutoff
  • Battery-powered (96.2Wh lithium battery)
  • USB ports on the battery
  • Cozy micro-fleece interior
  • Truly Portable
  • Doesn’t Get Super Warm

3. ThermaFur Air Activated Heat Blanket

The ThermaFur has a much different take on the portable heated blanket idea.

When you think “heated blanket” the first thing that normally comes to mind is something that uses electricity.

And making an electric blanket portable for camping and travel normally means having a small battery you can charge it with, or at least a 12 volt plug.

The ThermaFur portable heated blanket uses none of these ideas.

Instead, it uses a heat source that requires no electricity at all, air activated hand warmers.

The blanket part is very simple. It’s made of 100% fleece with a hemmed border.

There are 8 pockets sewn throughout the blanket.

The pockets are around 5 inches long and 3.5 inches wide. The perfect size for the larger hand warmers, also called body warmers.

Each pocket has a flap that will hold the inserted hand/body warmers securely so you can use the blanket without worrying about them falling out.

If you want to adjust the temperature, add or remove hand warmers.

It’s an incredibly simple design, but for camping and portability, it’s a fantastic idea.

Many of the portable heated blankets on the market today that use a small included battery to power them don’t really get very warm.

Especially when you compare them to the AC powered heated travel blankets reviewed below.

Small portable batteries just don’t output as much power, and heaters require a decent amount of electricity to work well.

That’s why we recommend using a portable power bank with AC outlets if possible.

Regular electric blankets work better and longer than battery powered options.

But if you don’t have the space for a portable power station, and you want a heated blanket that’s truly portable, the ThermaFur Air Activated Heat Blanket is one of the best options out there today.

There are 8 body warmers included with purchase, so you can start using it right when you get it.

Large body warmers last for around 15 hours, which is plenty to get you through a chilly day or night of camping.

When the warmers run out of charge, throw them away and put new ones in.

The top recommended replacements are Body Super Warmers by Hot Hands (click to view on Amazon) .

There’s even a way to still technically make this a battery powered heated blanket if you use rechargeable hand warmers like these (click to view on Amazon) .

  • No Power or Batteries Required
  • Lightweight
  • Can Adjust Heat By Adding or Removing Warmers
  • Thin Blanket Material
  • Included Hand Warmers Not Reusable

4. Serta Reversible Sherpa/Fleece Heated Blanket

This reversible heated blanket by Serta is a popular option because it’s so soft.

The brushed micro plush reverses to a plush sherpa lining, so you can stay cozy with either side.

It has five heat settings, so depending on how cold or warm you are, your blanket will adjust and let you feel just the perfect amount of warmth.

You can choose between six different colors, but there are no size options. All of them are 50 by 60 inches, and large enough for an adult.

This is not a 12V powered blanket with a cigarette plug, but with a regular AC plug.

The power cord is 8.5 ft long, so you don’t have to sit right by the outlet to keep this blanket warm.

See Also: How To Find Nearby RV Dump Stations And Water Fill-Up

Something I really like about this Serta blanket is the fact that it’s machine washable and comes with a three-year warranty.

I like to wash my blankets pretty often since it gets dirty so easily in the camper, and nothing cleans a blanket like a washing machine.

Serta has put a 4-hour automatic shut off feature in the blanket for safety and power savings reasons.

With an automatic shut off like this, you never have to worry about leaving your home or RV and realizing that you didn’t turn off the heated blanket.

Overall, I recommend the Serta reversible heated blanket because of the high-quality materials and features.

Serta stands behind its product with the 3-year warranty, and that’s something that can’t be said about every heated blanket out there.

The size is perfect for a camper and it’s small enough to be used outdoors, on the couch, and on the bed.

Since it only uses around 100 watts, you can easily combine it with a small portable power station , and it becomes a heated blanket you can use anywhere.

  • Reversible Sherpa/Fleece
  • 5 Heat Settings
  • 3-year Warranty
  • Machine Washable
  • 8.5 ft Power Cord
  • Automatic Shut Off
  • Uses AC Power (Need Inverter for Battery)

5. Vremi Electric Heated Blanket

If you want a heated blanket with even more features than the Serta, this one from Vremi might impress you.

There are two size options; 50 by 60 inches and 62 by 84 inches.

It doesn’t come in any other colors, but let me tell you what it can do.

It has an LCD display so you can easily monitor what settings the blanket is set to, and four buttons that let you control it.

Six heat settings and eight timer settings make it a versatile choice for a lot of different situations and places.

The heat settings can heat the blanket up from 85 to 110 degrees.

The timer settings will let you choose when the blanket should turn off, or it will turn itself off after 10 hours.

See Also:  6 Fun RV Comforters & Bedspreads For The Camper Or Home

It has a 10-foot power cord that can be removed when it’s time to wash it because it is machine washable.

The Vremi blanket uses up to 100 watts, which is not bad for the amount of heat it can generate.

It makes it compatible with a lot of portable power stations as long as it has a pure sine wave inverter.

Vremi offers a 1-year warranty.

If you’re looking for a lot of features, the Vremi electric heated blanket is a strong contender for the ultimate heated camping blanket title.

It’s easy to control with the remote, has a lot of heat and timer settings, and will turn itself off after 10 hours for safety reasons.

The downside is the short 1-year warranty.

  • LCD Display

6. Electrowarmth M60Fd Heated Mattress Pad

If you would rather have a heated mattress pad in your RV camper than a heated blanket, the Electrowarmth M60Fd is the one.

It comes in several sizes, but the one I am reviewing is the short queen with dual control.

Most campers come with short queen beds (also called camper queens). You can choose the size depending on what mattress is in your RV.

What’s impressive about this product is the low watt usage.

It only uses 126 Watts at most, with both sides turned on the highest heat setting.

Each controller has ten heat levels, and for safety, they both turn off after 10 hours of use.

The controller lets you turn it on and off, and up/down the heating levels.

Electrowarmth offers a 1-year warranty with this mattress pad. You can both machine wash and dry the pad.

The  Electrowarmth M60Fd is a fantastic option for alternative ways to stay warm while camping.

I can see myself having it permanently in my trailer. The mattress is always cold because of the air coming in through the outer storage compartment underneath.

Because of the ease of use and low wattage, it’s almost a better option than a heated travel blanket if you are looking for something to keep your bed warm when camping.

I don’t like the look of the outdated controllers, but the functionality of a great heated camping mattress pad is there, which is why I still recommend it.

Conclusion & Heated Blanket Recommendations

After looking at four heated blankets and one heating pad, I’ve realized that this is a product category where it comes down to preference.

Do you want to choose between ten heat levels, or is it more important that you can program when the blanket should turn off automatically?

Do you need a blanket that covers the entire bed, just your side, or just your feet?

No matter what your answer is to these questions, I hope that you’ve found what you’re looking for by now.

Here are my recommendations for heated blankets and pads:

Best Battery Powered Option – The Cozee Battery Operated Heated Blanket

It’s hard to heat something as large as a blanket using just a small portable battery.

The Cozee battery powered heated blanket is one of the only battery powered option out there.

While it’s not going to be as effective as the kind of electric blankets you plug in at home, it will still be warmer than a regular blanket.

Best Heated Travel Blanket – Stalwart 12V Electric Car Blanket

Every vehicle has a 12 volt outlet that can power this small heated blanket.

You can take it on any road trip to stay warm and since most RVs have a 12 volt outlet that’s directly connected to the battery, you can use it while camping as well.

If you don’t have a car or RV, you can power it using a small portable power station since it only uses 50 watts and you don’t need an inverter to power it.

Best Battery Powered Heated Blanket – The Cozee Battery Operated Heated Blanket

The Cozee is the most portable heated blanket out there since it runs on a battery.

Its battery is large but small enough that you can bring it on an airplane.

If you want to use your blanket outdoors a lot, the Cozee is the best choice.

Portable Power Stations To Use With Electric Heated Blankets

Solar powered generators are becoming more and more popular because they let you use electricity and recharge no matter where you are.

They’re basically portable lithium batteries that you can plug solar panels into to recharge them.

When powering a heated blanket with one of these power stations, you need to make sure it has a pure Sine Wave Inverter. Not a Modified Sine Wave Inverter.

This is really important to pay attention to since a modified sine wave inverter might destroy both your blanket and the power station.

Again, make sure the power station you buy has a Pure Sine Wave Inverter , and if you’re not sure you should ask the manufacturer.

Here are four power stations that I recommend: (click on any of the links to see them on Amazon)

Jackery Explorer 240

Jackery makes power stations in all different sizes. This one has a battery capacity of 240 watt-hours, so it will run a 60W blanket for 3-4 hours.

It has a screen that shows you how many watts are going in and out, and you can recharge it with a solar panel like the Powoxi 60W .

Ecoflow River Pro

One of the more feature-packed power stations out there right now.

It has three AC outlets, a screen that tells you everything you need to know, USB C, 720Wh battery capacity, and a regulated 12V output.

And it can be controlled and monitored with your phone.

Jackery Explorer 500

Very similar to the Explorer 240 above, but with more battery capacity and ports.

Jackery Explorer 1000

The largest power station Jackery makes. With a 1002 watt-hour battery capacity, three AC ports, USB C, and two inputs.

These power stations advertise their battery capacity in watt hours.

A heated blanket that draws 100W is going to use around 100 watt-hours per hour, so if you know the blanket wattage and the power station battery capacity, you can calculate how long it will run.

They don’t include solar panels, but most include an AC wall charger and a car charger.

To charge them with solar panels, you need to make sure it has a compatible connector.

Also get a solar panel that doesn’t have a solar charge controller, since power stations already have charge controllers built-in.

I can help you find compatible solar panels and tell you how to connect them if you leave a comment and tell me which power station you have.

What to Look for in a Portable Heated Blanket for Camping

Power usage.

Whether you are powering a portable heated blanket with a 12 volt RV battery, car battery, portable power station, or even a battery that was included with the blanket, power usage matters.

The amount of watts a heated blanket uses every hour tells you how long the power source will last.

If you are going to be using a portable power station, you need to make sure the max watts the blanket will use aren’t too much for the inverter to handle.

Luckily, none of the portable heated blankets in this review use over 150 watts.

That’s pretty low and most power stations and solar generators that have inverters can handle it.

If you are using a heated travel blanket that can be powered with a 12 volt outlet, you need to make sure you don’t use it too much when the vehicle isn’t running.

Car batteries don’t have as much storage for electricity as large RV batteries and you could end up with a dead battery if you leave your heated blanket plugged in for too long.

Portability

Truly portable heated blankets that actually work can be pretty hard to find.

Heating elements require a decent power source to work properly, and super small portable batteries that can fit in your pocket don’t always have the strength to really heat a blanket.

That doesn’t mean a battery powered heated blanket won’t work. Just don’t expect it to be as warm as the kind you can plug into an outlet.

We are using the term “portability” in a few different ways in this review.

Portability can mean being able to use a common 12 volt power source, a small battery, portable hand warmers, or portable power stations.

Some of the heated blankets in this review are more portable than others.

Your travel and camping style is the thing that will decide how portable the blanket needs to be.

Blanket Fabric & Quality

Naturally, a blanket that’s made with extra warm fabrics and materials will feel warmer than one that is thin and lightweight.

The travel heated blankets in this review are made of thinner material because they are meant to take up less space.

The ones that can be powered using portable power stations are a little thicker and made with heavier fabrics.

The heated mattress pad is the largest and least portable option.

Some of these options are going to be better when paired with other camping blankets.

For instance, the 12 volt option is pretty thin, but it will fit perfectly inside a sleeping bag or under a quilt in an RV.

Size Options

It’s common for heated blankets to only have one size option.

If you want a portable blanket, you can wrap around your shoulders and take with you anywhere, a small 48 x 60 inch size will be perfect.

If you want the heated blanket to cover the bed in the RV or van, you might need something that’s full or queen sized.

Safety Features

Finally, safety is a big deal with any electronic, especially the kinds that output heat right next to your body.

The most common safety feature on heated blankets is an auto-off.

It turns off the blanket after a set number of hours, just in case you left it on unattended or to stop your body from getting too warm.

The 12 volt blanket is the only option in this review that doesn’t have an auto-off.

That means if left plugged in it could easily drain the battery you are powering it with.

Frequently Asked Questions About Heated Blankets

I have the jackets 500 power source. As suggested by this company I can use a 40 Watt electric blanket but I’m not finding one with such low wattage.. do you know of any and where I might find it. Only need a twin size for my camping cot. Thank you.

Yeah, the only ones I know of that use that little electricity are the 12V ones. Like this one from Elantrip . This only works if your power station has a 12V plug though.

I realize this might sound silly but the jackery 1000 says it is rated for 110 volts. If I wanted the Vremi blanket – it says it’s rated 120 volts. Will that be an issue?

Hi, Nope, won’t be an issue at all. As long as the blanket has a regular plug you’re good to go. If it was a 12V blanket though, it would have to be plugged into the 12V outlet.

Hello I have a 4000 watt solar system and I have three batteries to charge on it with a 500 watt growatt inverter. I would like recommendations for a battery operated electric blanket that the rechargeable batters on a USB port. I had the system built for off grid living. Please help with recommendations I have a queen in my RV it’s a Class A.

This battery powered heated blanket by Onnetila (click to view on Amazon) is the only option I could find that uses a battery that can be recharged using a USB port.

It’s throw blanket sized, but I think you will have a hard time finding a queen size blanket that’s battery powered since portable batteries aren’t powerful enough to heat a large blanket.

The Cozee heated blanket in this review has a battery that can be recharged with a 12 volt outlet. It’s not USB but it can be charged with a 12 volt battery without having to use an inverter.

Allow me to share my personal insights and observations about this product.

Long Power Cord and Versatility : One notable feature of the Stalwart Electric Heated 12V Fleece Blanket is its longer-than-average 96-inch power cord. This extended length allows for greater flexibility, making it an excellent choice for warming cab or tow vehicle seats. The blanket’s versatility ensures that you can adapt it to your specific RV setup, allowing for a more personalized and comfortable experience.

While it doesn’t offer adjustable heat levels, the Stalwart Electric Heated 12V Fleece Blanket emits a reasonable amount of heat that will keep you comfortable in colder temperatures.

Considerations for Continuous Use : One aspect to bear in mind with this particular blanket is that it lacks high or low heat options. It draws around four amps, providing a consistent heat level throughout use. However, the absence of a heat adjustment feature may not suit those seeking a customizable heat experience. Additionally, the Stalwart blanket does not include a timer, which may be a significant consideration for those desiring a blanket that can remain on throughout the night. To turn off the blanket, you would need to unplug it, which may require you to get out of bed. This aspect should be taken into account when considering the blanket for regular bedtime use.

Affordability and Fast Heating : The Stalwart Electric Heated 12V Fleece Blanket stands out for its affordable price point, making it an attractive option for those on a budget. Whether you’re traveling with a partner, your family, or simply prefer a larger blanket, this model offers ample coverage to keep everyone cozy. However, in colder conditions, you have the option to switch on the heating function and enjoy a temperature range of 70-104 degrees Fahrenheit, offering customizable warmth to suit your preferences.

Energy Efficiency and Battery Draw : While there are more energy-efficient options available, the Roadpro blanket draws approximately 4.6 amps (55 watts), which shouldn’t significantly drain your battery when used sparingly. However, it’s important to note that this particular model lacks a control panel or auto shut-off feature. While this may be preferable for some individuals, it means that you’ll have to unplug the blanket to switch it off. This aspect requires caution and awareness, as forgetting to unplug it could potentially result in a drained RV battery in the morning. It’s important to be mindful of this factor when using the blanket to ensure the optimal functioning of your vehicle’s battery.

Suitability for Sleeping and Timer Functions : While the Roadpro 12-Volt Polar Fleece Heated Blanket serves as a good overall choice for keeping warm on the road, it may not be ideal for those specifically seeking an electric blanket for sleeping in their RV. The absence of a control panel or auto shut-off means that it lacks timer functions, which can be beneficial for overnight use. For those seeking the convenience of setting a specific duration of operation, I would recommend exploring other 12V travel blanket options with timer functionalities. However, if you’re looking for a heated blanket that can remain on for extended periods, the Roadpro model may suit your needs perfectly.

Based on my personal experience, the Roadpro 12-Volt Polar Fleece Heated Blanket proves to be a reliable companion, offering warmth and comfort during your RV travels. Its generous size, cozy fleece fabric, and customizable heat range make it a suitable choice for staying warm on the road. However, it’s important to consider the absence of a control panel or auto shut-off feature, which requires manually unplugging the blanket to switch it off. For those seeking a blanket specifically for sleeping in their RV, I recommend exploring alternatives with timer functions. Nevertheless, if you desire a heated blanket that can remain on for longer durations, the Roadpro 12-Volt Polar Fleece Heated Blanket may be the ideal choice for you.

However, it’s worth noting that the blanket takes a considerable amount of time to heat up, and it may not be the most powerful option available. If you tend to feel the cold intensely, you might be better served by a model that offers higher heat output.

Power Draw and Battery Considerations : With a power draw of approximately 3.7 amps (45 watts maximum), the Schumacher 12V Heated Travel Blanket is relatively low powered. However, it’s important to keep in mind that without a timer function, you need to ensure that you have sufficient power resources to avoid draining your battery. This consideration becomes essential for extended use or when relying on the blanket for prolonged periods. Being mindful of your battery reserves will help ensure a worry-free and uninterrupted power supply during your travels.

Based on my personal experience, the Schumacher 12V Heated Travel Blanket offers reliable warmth and comfort for extended use during your RV adventures. With its manual shut-off feature and steady temperature maintenance, it becomes a practical choice for those seeking low-level heat over long periods of time. The comfortable fleece fabric adds to the overall comfort, making it an enjoyable seating option as well. While it may not have advanced features like timers or adjustable heat levels, the Schumacher blanket delivers consistent warmth and reliable performance. If you’re in search of a blanket that provides continuous low-level heat, the Schumacher 12V Heated Travel Blanket could be the perfect choice for your wintertime RVing needs.

Buyer’s Guide to Buying the Best 12v Heated Blanket

To help you to find the very best 12V heated blanket for your motorhome, we’ve listed some of the essential features that you’ll need to consider when making your purchase.

There are plenty of moderately-priced 12V heated blankets out there. However, as there is such a large number of products, all at similar price points, it can make picking the best model for your motorhome even more difficult.

While cheaper versions are often synonymous with lower quality, we think there are plenty of good 12V heated travel blankets around the $30 mark. If you pay a little more, you can get extra features, such as a control panel, adjustable temperature and auto shut-off.

If you’d rather use a 12V heated mattress pad instead of a blanket, then you should expect to pay considerably more.

Power Supply

The beauty of 12V heated blankets is that you can plug them directly into your cigarette lighter socket on your dash and stay cozy warm when you’re out on the road. Once you’ve parked up, you may wish to use your blanket to heat up your bed before settling down to sleep.

Many heated blankets have a generous power cord length, but you could also add extra 12V cigarette lighter sockets inside your motorhome if required. You can also purchase connectors, adaptors and extensions, in order to run your blanket from deep discharge batteries that you recharge with your generator.

However you power your RV, be it shore side, solar or with a generator, bear in mind that your average 12V heated blanket will draw anywhere between 3-6 amps (36-72 Watts). If power is an issue, models with timers can be a better choice as their automatic cut off will prevent you from waking up to a flat battery in the morning.

Using an average 12V heated blanket all night will generally use up around 50-60% of one deep discharge battery. Models with automatic temperature control that cycle on and off will help to reduce this figure.

Auto Shut-off

Many heated blankets come with an auto shut-off function, that turns off your blanket once a set duration of time has passed. Auto shut-off heated blankets allow you to fall asleep without worrying about running out of battery power overnight, making them ideal for small trailers with low power supplies. On the other hand, if you’re hooked up to shore power or have your generator running, you may want to run your blanket all night in the depth of winter. In this case, it’s best to opt for a heated blanket with a manual shut-off.

It’s important to bear in mind that your heated blanket should have a safety auto shut-off in case of overheating. Given the flammability of RV interiors and materials in general, once you’re warm in bed with your RV furnace fired up, you may prefer a timer model that shuts off automatically after a set amount of time.

Temperature Control & Heat Levels

Using a heated travel blanket with adjustable temperature and heat levels has many benefits.

Having the option to lower the temperature when you’re warming up can save you battery power. Likewise, having the possibility to crank up the heat levels is invaluable when getting into a freezing cold cab after a winter stroll, or to rapidly warm up your sleeping quarters.

Some models have basic low/high settings, while others allow you to set the actual temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. If you tend to feel the cold more than most, we recommend opting for a blanket with adjustable heat levels, so you can be sure that your blanket will reach a comfortable temperature for your needs.

Speed of Heating

If you tend to feel the cold, or if you are intending on using your 12V heated travel blankets as seat warmers, then you’ll want to pay attention to the amount of time it takes for your blanket to heat up.

While heating up your bedding shouldn’t be too much of an issue (simply leave it to warm while you get on with your evening tasks), if you’re freezing cold and relying on your blanket to warm you up, it’s best to get a fast heating model.

Warmth of Blanket when not Powered

It is also important to consider just how useful your heated blanket will be without power.

Unless you can run it non-stop, there are going to be times when you’ll use your blanket without power. Therefore, we recommend choosing one made from a good quality, insulating fabric for maximum heat retention.

Polyester fleece is a popular choice for heated electric travel blankets. You should also look at the thickness of the blanket and consider its overall weight to give you some idea of the warmth it will provide once the power has gone off.

Length of Power Cord

Whether you plan to use your blanket in the cab area, when sitting outside enjoying the view, or to keep you toasty overnight, the length of your power cord is important.

Depending upon the size and set up of your motorhome, you may have several different outlets, extensions or connectors to take into account. In general, a longer power cord is always more useful. Even more so if you are towing a travel trailer or fifth wheel and have cold passengers in the rear.

A cable of around 84-96 inches is standard and should give you plenty of flexibility.

Battery Life

Before purchasing a 12V heated blanket, take a few minutes to consider just how much power it will likely draw on a daily basis. Doing so will allow you to calculate if you need to make any existing changes should you have a very small set up.

If you feel the cold and expect to be using a heated travel blanket with a manual shut-off, then you should allow for a higher energy use than a model with a 45-minute automatic cut off. Leaving your heated blanket on all night plugged into your dash may completely run down your battery. So if you are using your dash cigarette lighter socket, always ensure that you unplug a manual shut off model before going to sleep.

Your RV deep discharge battery will be able to power your average 12V heated electric travel blanket for a night without running into over-discharge. Therefore, having a dedicated heated blanket battery is an option worth bearing in mind if you’re running a low-energy set up with a bare minimum of appliances.

Whether you’re a seasoned RV enthusiast or new to the world of road trips, our answers will guide you in selecting the best 12V heated blanket for your needs. So, let’s dive in and discover everything you need to know about these convenient and comforting companions for your RV journeys.

What is a 12V heated blanket?

A 12V heated blanket is a portable blanket that can be powered by a 12-volt power source, such as the cigarette lighter socket in a vehicle or RV. It uses heating elements embedded within the fabric to provide warmth and comfort in cold weather.

How does a 12V heated blanket work?

A 12V heated blanket operates by drawing power from a 12-volt power source and converting it into heat through the heating elements integrated into the blanket. These heating elements distribute warmth evenly across the surface of the blanket, keeping you cozy and comfortable during your travels.

Can I use a 12V heated blanket in my RV?

Yes, absolutely! 12V heated blankets are designed to be used in vehicles and RVs. They are a great companion for road trips, camping adventures, or simply for staying warm while parked. Just make sure your RV has a 12-volt power outlet (cigarette lighter socket) to power the blanket.

Are 12V heated blankets safe to use in an RV?

Yes, when used properly, 12V heated blankets are safe for use in an RV. They are designed with safety features such as automatic shutoff timers and overheat protection to prevent any accidents. However, it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and not leave the blanket unattended while in use.

Can I use a 12V heated blanket with an inverter in my RV?

Yes, it is possible to use a 12V heated blanket with an inverter in your RV. However, keep in mind that using an inverter to power a 12V blanket may consume more power compared to using the RV’s built-in 12-volt power source. Make sure your inverter can handle the wattage requirements of the blanket and avoid overloading the electrical system.

Can I wash a 12V heated blanket?

Most 12V heated blankets are machine washable, but it’s essential to check the manufacturer’s instructions for specific care guidelines. Generally, you’ll need to detach the heating elements (if possible) and ensure the blanket is unplugged before washing. Use a gentle cycle and avoid using harsh detergents or bleach. Always follow the recommended cleaning instructions provided by the manufacturer.

How long does it take for a 12V heated blanket to warm up?

The warm-up time for a 12V heated blanket can vary depending on the model and the ambient temperature. In general, it may take a few minutes for the blanket to reach its maximum heating level. Some blankets offer adjustable heat settings, allowing you to control the warmth and speed up the warming process.

Can I use a 12V heated blanket while sleeping?

While it is technically possible to use a 12V heated blanket while sleeping, it’s generally not recommended to keep it powered on throughout the night. It’s best to use the blanket to warm up the bed before sleeping and then unplug it for safety reasons and to conserve power. Always prioritize safety and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for usage.

Can I use a 12V heated blanket for pets?

Yes, many 12V heated blankets are suitable for pets as well. They can provide warmth and comfort for your furry companions during cold weather. However, make sure to choose a size that fits your pet and supervise their usage to prevent any accidents or damage to the blanket.

: How do I choose the right 12V heated blanket for my RV?

When selecting a 12V heated blanket for your RV, consider factors such as size, material, power consumption, heating settings, safety features, and warranty. Choose a blanket that suits your preferences and provides the necessary warmth for your travel needs. Reading customer reviews and comparing different options can also help you make an informed decision.

Remember to always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines for the specific 12V heated blanket you choose, as different models may have unique features and care requirements.

Travel + Leisure / Brian Kopinski

A portable heated blanket is one of the best ways to ward off that winter chill, whether you’re traveling to a top American ski resort or planning a snow-dusted European city break. Travel-friendly versions are lighter and more compact than their standard-sized siblings — look for throw or twin blankets rather than those meant for queen or king beds.

Choose car-charger-compatible models if you’re embarking on a winter road trip or battery-powered ones if you’ll be outside for sporting events and camping adventures. Hard-wearing fabrics, the ability to throw the blanket in the washing machine, and a protective carry bag are also recommended for withstanding the rigors of life on the road.

Best Overall

Gobi heat zen portable heated blanket.

With multiple heat settings and the ability to run off battery or outlet power, this is a versatile blanket for every occasion.

At over 5 pounds, it isn’t the lightest option on this list and is probably better suited to car travel than air travel.

Made from durable recycled polyester, the Gobi Heat Zen Portable Heated Blanket is water resistant and more than capable of standing up to life on the go, whether you’re camping, tailgating, or heading to the beach . It can be plugged into the wall for unlimited power when you’re relaxing in your vacation rental but also runs off battery for on-the-go adventures. You can choose between three heat settings ranging from 116 to 136 degrees Fahrenheit. On the lowest setting the battery can last up to 10 hours; on the highest, it can last up to six hours. An LED indicator shows the battery level so you’re never left without power unexpectedly.

The battery recharges fully via USB cable in approximately four to five hours. The blanket uses three heat zones and conductive thread technology to disperse warmth evenly throughout, while the fleecy polyester top layer is wonderfully soft. If it gets dirty, detach the battery and throw it in the washing machine. The fact that the battery can be detached also means you can swap it out for a backup if you’re planning a multi-day trip and want to extend the blanket’s runtime. Choose from a range of colors including pine (green), mist (gray), and stream (blue), and enjoy the peace of mind offered by a one-year warranty.

The Details: 70 x 50 inches | Recycled polyester | Max temperature: 136 degrees Fahrenheit | 3 temperature settings | Battery and mains powered | Up to 10 hours runtime

Best Budget

Hiundee electric blanket with foot pocket.

Ten temperature settings and a cozy foot pocket ensure just the right amount of evenly distributed heat.

This blanket does not have battery backup and is therefore only suitable for travelers with access to power outlets.

Retailing for roughly a sixth of the price of our overall winner yet packed with convenient features, the Hiundee Heated Blanket is our top budget pick. It features warm, cozy flannel on both sides and folds down small enough to fit in your suitcase without taking up too much precious space. It does require mains power, though, so make sure you’ve got access to plug sockets and the correct adapter for your destination.

The blanket offers 10 temperature settings ranging from 59 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit and reaches maximum heat in approximately five minutes. We particularly love the integrated foot pocket. Other key features include the ability to set a timer so that the blanket switches off after one, two, four, six, or eight hours; and the fact that it switches off after eight hours regardless to save energy and prevent overheating. It’s machine washable and available in beige, blue, or gray.

The hem is calf length, which means you won’t have full body coverage unless you’re sitting down with your legs tucked beneath you.

If you love the idea of a heated blanket but don’t want to sit still to enjoy it, the Venustas Heated Wearable Blanket Hoodie is for you. Made from soft polyester with a cozy Sherpa fleece lining, it uses a 7.4-volt battery pack to power heated panels on the chest and back. With your hands free, you can take photos, build campfires, cheer on your favorite team, and then tuck your legs up into the oversized hoodie on the couch at the end of the day. The battery heats quickly and takes between four and five hours to charge.

Runtime is anywhere from three hours on the highest setting (130 degrees) to 10 hours on the lowest setting (95 degrees). You can also use the USB port to connect and charge your phone. The hoodie includes a compact carry bag, making it easy to pack into your trunk or suitcase. It’s machine washable and comes in a range of solid colors and fun prints from avocados to American-flag-wearing sloths.

This patented, battery-powered blanket has a built-in surge protection and an automatic shutoff feature.

It has a shorter runtime than our best overall pick.

And with a durable, weather-resistant exterior suitable for rain and snow, it’s a great fit for outdoor adventurers.

The blanket warms up in just five minutes and stays hot for approximately three hours. Choose one of three temperature settings, with the hottest reaching 108 degrees. Whichever you go for, the micro-plush velour lining feels great against the skin. The battery can be topped up using the included mains or car chargers (great for long-distance road trips ). You can also use it to charge your phone. Finally, a sturdy carry case adds to this blanket’s travel chops.

It takes a relatively long time (up to 15 minutes) to reach maximum temperature.

With an included 5-volt power bank and the ability to charge via the USB port on your laptop, car dashboard, or wall adaptor, the Ourea USB Heated Blanket raises the bar in terms of portability. It’s just as suitable for outdoor use as it is for lounging inside, too, with a DWR-coated polyester taffeta outer layer that’s both wind and water resistant. Want to keep your hands free? The blanket offers four heating zones and three heat settings, with a maximum temperature of 149 degrees. It’s also eminently packable, with a zippered pocket for securing the power bank and any charging cables. You can fold the blanket into this pocket for easy storage and transport, too, and even use it as a pillow on your next road trip or long-haul flight. Choose yours in gray or green; both are machine washable and dryer friendly.

The Details: 60 x 50 inches | Polyester taffeta, fleece | Max temperature: 149 degrees | 3 temperature settings | USB powered

Best for Camping

Dalos outdoor heating blanket.

With a weather-resistant nylon shell and non-fuzzy fabric that repels dirt and other debris, this blanket is made for outdoor living.

The maximum temperature isn’t specified in the product description, so you shouldn't rely on it for extreme cold.

Portability and durability are priorities when choosing a heated blanket for your next camping trip , and this one from Dalos Dream delivers on both fronts. It’s battery powered, providing up to six hours of cordless heat. And, with a USB charger that can easily be plugged into a power bank or car dashboard, it’s easy to recharge on the go. You can even use it to juice up your phone if you’re stranded without power in the wilderness.

The 20-denier ripstop nylon shell is built to withstand the hardships of life outdoors. It also features a durable water repellent finish that makes the blanket virtually impervious to wind and rain. And although the material isn’t as cozy as that of a traditional heated blanket, the fact that it’s less fuzzy means it won’t attract every piece of leaf litter in the campground. The blanket offers five temperature settings and five shutdown timer settings and can be folded compactly into an integrated pocket.

The Details: 60 x 40 inches | Ripstop nylon, polyester | 5 temperature settings | Battery powered | Up to six-hour runtime

It’s powered via a 12-volt charger that plugs into your vehicle’s cigarette lighter.

The charger features a 6-foot long cable so that the blanket can stretch comfortably to the back seat. Worried about the kids spilling their snacks and drinks on it? Don’t be. As long as you remove the charging cable, the blanket is fully machine washable and dryer safe. It offers three heat settings from 82 to 126 degrees and takes roughly 10 minutes to heat up. Most Packable

Actionheat 7v battery heated throw blanket.

Dick's Sporting Goods

This blanket combines touch-controlled heating with the ability to pack away into a compact carry case.

The slimline battery is not the most powerful on this list, offering just 4.5 hours of heat on the lowest setting.

When packing a suitcase for your winter vacation, space is at a premium. Make the most of yours with the ActionHeat 7V Heated Throw Blanket, which uses proprietary ActionFlex fabric to deliver just the right blend of performance and lightweight packability. This is the smallest blanket on our list at 55 x 31.5 inches. But while it won’t provide full-body coverage, it does offer plenty of warmth when wrapped around the shoulders or draped over the knees.

It uses a 7-volt battery to power three heating zones. Use the touch-button controls to select one of three temperature settings from 102 to 135 degrees, with the lowest offering up to 4.5 hours of battery life. You’ll know when your battery is due for a recharge thanks to the blanket’s LED power level indicators. When not in use, the blanket folds and rolls into a compact, cylindrical carry case that’s just the right shape for slotting into your suitcase or backpack. It’s machine washable and available in practical black or gray.

Softest Feel

Pure enrichment luxury heated throw.

This blanket combines high-end faux fur with Sherpa fleece to provide unbelievable softness at a surprisingly reasonable price point.

You’ll need access to mains power to use this blanket on your travels.

The PureRadiance Heated Throw Blanket from Pure Enrichment is a designer product with an ultra-soft faux fur top layer, a Sherpa fleece lining, and embossed stitching. Yet despite its luxury ski chalet aesthetic, it’s not the most expensive option on this list by a long shot. It requires mains power, but it’s neither too heavy nor too large to realistically pack in your checked luggage. It even comes with a premium storage bag to keep it looking brand new for longer.

It heats up quickly and offers six heat settings from 90 to 105 degrees. Shifting between them is easy using the blanket’s palm-sized, detachable LED controller. A two-hour automatic shut-off feature helps to prevent overheating and conserve energy so that you can drift off without a care in the world when relaxing fireside after a long day on the slopes. Finally, the blanket is machine washable and protected by a five-year warranty.

Tips for Buying a Portable Heated Blanket

Choose the right power source.

How and where you plan on traveling and your preferred activities will dictate which kind of power source you should choose. If you’ll be using your heated blanket to stay warm on chilly nights in your vacation rental or hotel room and will always have access to mains power, then a model with a wall plug makes the most sense. Just choose one with a generous cable and make sure you have the correct travel adapters and/or converters if you’re headed overseas.

If you want to use your heated blanket outside (to stay warm in the tailgating lot or on a camping trip), a battery-operated model is a better choice. Look for one with a decent battery life, an LED battery level indicator, and the ability to recharge via your car’s cigarette lighter or USB port. Detachable batteries are ideal, because this feature allows you to connect a backup battery if you’re out for an extended period of time without the ability to recharge.

Make sure the size is travel-friendly

Many heated blankets work beautifully in your own home but are too large or bulky to be a practical travel companion. To save precious suitcase space, either look for models that are specifically labeled as portable and designed for lightweight compactness or opt for a throw-sized version of a standard blanket. A drawstring carry bag or one with cinchable straps also helps to keep your blanket compact. Of course, size will be less of a concern if you’re driving to your destination than if you’re trying to remain within an airline luggage allowance.

Consider temperature, heat distribution, and settings

Different heated blanket models vary in terms of minimum and maximum temperature. Make sure to check the manufacturer’s description carefully to confirm that whichever one you buy is sufficient for your intended purpose. The ability to choose from a range of heat settings is a valuable feature that increases the blanket’s versatility.

We also love the ability to choose from a range of time periods after which the blanket automatically shuts off. This helps to prevent overheating and also avoids excess energy consumption. Finally, consider how many heating zones your blanket has and how well they distribute warmth across its full length and breadth to keep your extremities toasty.

Although you should always check the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific blanket, most modern heated blankets are now machine washable. Make sure to detach the controller and any cords and to remove the battery if your blanket is battery powered. Then, use mild detergent to wash the blanket on a delicate cycle that uses cool or warm water. Shorter cycles are best, since they limit the amount of water and heat the blanket is exposed to. Some models are tumble-dryer safe on a cool setting, while others will need to be line dried.

Heated blankets that are 10 years old or more are responsible for the vast majority of electric blanket fires. Newer models should turn off automatically if they reach an unsafe temperature, or if any faulty components are detected. Check that yours has been tested and certified by a recognized agency such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL). If it has, it’s very unlikely to cause burns or start a fire.

Nevertheless, those with specific health concerns, including diabetes and poor circulation, should consult their doctor before using a heated blanket. Never use a heated blanket that has visible signs of wear and tear.

It’s generally advised not to leave a heated blanket on all night. Even if the likelihood of the blanket overheating to the extent that it causes a fire or burns is tiny if you’re using a newer model, there’s every chance that you could get too hot — affecting your comfort and quality of sleep. Instead, use the blanket to preheat the bed before you get in and then turn it off before you go to sleep, or use a blanket with a timer and set it to shut off automatically after an hour or two. This also helps to save battery life if you’re using a battery-powered model.

Although rules may vary from one airline to the next, TSA’s official verdict is that heated blankets are permitted in both your checked and your carry-on luggage. As for whether or not you can use your heated blanket on the plane, that depends on how it’s operated and the policy of the airline you’re flying with. In 2021, for example, American Airlines banned the use of heated blankets onboard because they said that they posed a fire risk when plugged into the airplane power source. It was not clarified whether the ruling applied to battery-powered blankets. If in doubt, call ahead and ask.

It measures 59 inches long and 43 inches wide and has an 85-inch long power cord. Plus, it can easily be packed away in its bag when not in use, making it easy to carry.

When you try this blanket, you will find it extremely soft, cozy, and vibrant in color. Although it may not feel warm to the touch from the outside like a heating pad, it will provide you with enough warmth once you put it on.

Comfytemp Mini Car Electric Blanket – Best Small Electric Blanket

The Comfytemp Mini Car Electric Blanket is a great option for a small, versatile electric blanket that fits various 12V and 24V cars.

One of the most impressive features of this blanket is its four heat settings, which offer warm and comfortable heat. The H setting is handy for relieving travel fatigue, while the mini size concentrates heat, and the Memory Function helps you remember the last heat and timer setting.

Additionally, the blanket is designed with a stay-on and 5-timer auto shut-off range from 0.5-1-2-4-8H, giving you the option of constant heat with no auto shut-off or customized auto-off.

  • Stay-on and 5-timer auto shut-off
  • Easy to care for with a detachable controller

Guide To Buying 12 Volt Electric Blankets

Choosing the best 12-volt electric blankets can be overwhelming for some people. This type of blanket is usually much needed during the cold and winter seasons.

To guide you to finding the right electric blankets for your car trips, here are the 11 things you should consider:

Many heated car blankets come between 50 and 60 inches long and 40 and 45 inches wide .

This dimension is the perfect size for the car. Your kids will be able to share it easily on your car trip.

However, some of them might not be able to cover your full body. But you will find that most of the blankets should be able to cover at least 80 to 90% of your body.

Just make sure you check the dimensions carefully before making your purchase. Ideally, 59 x 43 inches is the best size to choose from.

Polyester fleece is a popular choice for heated electric travel blankets. It is soft, lightweight, fuzzy, and warmer than wool.

However, the most premium fabric is made from Sherpa. The Sherpa electric blanket has better insulation and quick-drying material and is lightweight and less bulky than fleece. [ 2 ]

The Sherpa material is warmer than the polyester fleece. Because of its excellent heat retention attribute, the Sherpa heated blanket is a great choice to consider.

It will keep you warm whenever you unplug the power.

It doesn’t mean the polyester fleece fabric is less warm than the Sherpa. Both are great.

Temperature Range

You want a 12V electric blanket with a set temperature range to keep you and your family warm if the temperature drops at night or during the cold winter.

The temperature is measured either (or both) in degrees Celsius (°C) or degrees Fahrenheit (°F) .

You will find that normally electric blankets have an operating temperature between 70⁰F and 115⁰F. Some quality blankets can reach up to 122⁰F.

This temperature range should keep you pretty nice and toasty.

Adjustable Heat Settings

When choosing the best-heated travel blanket, I recommend you look for a blanket with adjustable temperature and heat levels.

It has many benefits and can make a difference. You can always find the right fit; it keeps you nice and toasty.

The electric blankets with adjustable heat settings mostly feature 3-level heat control (low, mid, high). Some of them even have a timer.

Depending on the models, some low-temperature settings can control the blanket’s temperature from 98⁰F to 100⁰F.

The medium temperature setting is between 100⁰F and 108⁰F, and the high setting can control the heat from 108⁰F to 122⁰F.

Dual Controls

Dual control is a feature that will help to adjust the temperature setting for each side of the electric car blanket.

If you’re sharing the blankets, especially with your toddler or baby, the dual controls allow you to set your temperature without affecting them.

There are two buttons on the switch. The on-off button doubles as the temperature selection button.

WARNING : Do not use the 12-volt heated throw on infants or anyone incapable of unplugging the blanket without assistance. Do not use the heated throw on anyone with a fever or heat sensitivity.

Automatic Shut-Off (Safety)

Most electric heated blankets do not have automatic shut-off features. At the same time, some car heating blankets include an automatic shut-off as a safety feature in case of overheating.

Depending on your preference, having an automatic shut-off feature can have advantages and disadvantages.

The blanket with an automatic shut-off feature will shut off itself after a specified time, i.e., minutes. The downside is that you must wake up and turn the blanket back on.

But if you want to use the blanket to keep warm all night, the electric blanket without the automatic shut-off feature is suitable.

It would be best to unplug it when you’re not using it. You don’t want to drain your car battery and get your car stranded in the middle of the highway.

Timer Settings

Generally, electric blankets that come with an automatic shut-off feature will also have a timer setting.

Usually, they come with three different timer settings : 30, 45, and 60 minutes.

If you worry about overheating yourself or your children, this timer-setting feature is a godsend.

Please select the preferred timing on the controller or read the blanket manual on how to use it.

Power Consumption

The 12-volt electric blanket typically consumes 45 to 55 watts. They estimate about 4 Amps to 8 Amps.

How many watts does it draw?

When you set it to low, it consumes about 25 Watts of power. And about 50 Watts when set to high.

As you can see, it doesn’t consume much power. However, you need to keep your car running to charge your car battery continuously.

I wouldn’t recommend you to keep using the blanket when the car is shut off so that it won’t pull a lot of power from the car battery. You don’t want to hurt your battery.

Length of Power Cord

The power cord is typically between 70 to 96 inches long. You should have a problem plugging it into your car’s cigarette 12 Volt power outlet.

In general, a longer power cord is always more useful.

However, there are situations where you might find your electric blanket power cord out of reach. That is when you’re traveling in an MPV car.

Since this type of car is a longer size, someone sitting in the third row might have a problem plugging his or her electric blanket.

The length of the power cord might not be long enough.

Consider the Cigarette Lighter Splitter Adapter Power Charger Port in this situation so everyone can use the blanket.

Machine Washable

It doesn’t matter if your heated blanket is made of polyester fleece or Sherpa fabrics; it must be cleaned or washed.

Unfortunately, not all electric blankets are machine-washable. You must check the manufacturer’s recommendation, usually found in the product manual or package.

If it cannot be washed with a washing machine, you can still clean your blanket by hand washing or spot clean with a wet, damp cloth.

If your electric blanket is washable, please disconnect all the electrical wires before throwing them into the machine. You don’t want them to get damaged.

A decent 12-volt electric blanket doesn’t hurt you that much. It typically costs you more than $30. Unless there’s a sale, you can get it cheaper than the regular prices.

There’s a cheaper electric blanket out there that you can get for less than $25, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Cheaper heated blankets are always less durable and often synonymous with lower quality.

The Reasons Why You Need An Electric Travel Blanket

A man with an electric blanket

The primary reason that we need an electric travel blanket is that it keeps our family members warm, especially in winter.

I don’t have to feel guilty that anyone else is too warm. I can plug in the heated travel blanket and snuggle up in it; you feel warm and comfortable while everyone else remains comfortable.

Another great thing is that most of these heated car blankets are big enough that two people can share one if they are sitting in the back seats, so you can double up the use for any rear seat passengers instead of buying one for each for your family.

Electric travel blankets are especially handy when you have children during a long road ride; you can set them up and be assured they feel warm without checking on them regularly.

The 12-volt electric blanket will:

  • It keeps you warm on cold winter days!
  • It can keep your dog warm, too.
  • It takes just a few moments to get you warm.
  • Most are big enough to cover two people.
  • Perfect for cars, convertibles, trucks, boats, RVs, and SUVs.
  • Great for keeping kids warm, especially when they are in car seats and cannot wear bulky snowsuits.
  • Great for your spouse, who wants the temperature warmer than you.
  • Great for senior citizens and others who suffer from poor circulation.
  • Most car heaters do an excellent job in the front area, but it takes a while to warm the rear car.

What Is an Electric Travel Blanket?

Please note that some people might use the term heated travel blanket, but it is the same. It depends on what you want to call it.

The electric travel blanket is an easily portable electric blanket that can be heated using the 12 Volt cigarette lighter outlets found in cars, boats, and similar vehicles. [ 3 ]

The best ones are made so that when on, the warmth is distributed evenly, so there are no uncomfortable ‘ cold spots .’

Often, a heated car blanket is made from 2 layers of material, which adds to the heated blanket’s insulating capabilities by using the captured body heat to maintain the heat.

The cord is usually long enough to be used from the 12-volt outlet in the car’s front. While heated travel blankets do not have a way to adjust the temperature settings, it usually takes about 10 min to get the blanket to its maximum heat.

Usually, to switch off the heat, you will need to unplug it, but some of the electric blankets come with a timer; this is an automatic shut-off after a certain amount of time, usually 30 to 45 minutes.

The 12-volt electric blankets are made to be portable, simple to care for, and easy to use, which is good enough for most of us.

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about 12 Volt Electric Blankets.

What is the highest temperature it can reach?

Some of the electric blankets can heat up to 122⁰F. Different products have different temperature ranges.

How long does an electric blanket take to heat up?

The 12-volt electric blanket usually takes 3 to 5 minutes to heat up. Some blankets will take several minutes before reaching the desired temperature.

What is the power draw in amps?

If you’re trying to determine battery usage, the heated blankets usually draw about 4 to 8 Amps.

How much power does a 12v electric blanket use?

The 12 Volt electric blanket typically consumes power from 45W up to 55W. Some premium electric blankets can consume up to 100W of power!

Are electric blankets safe?

Generally, electric blankets are safe to use. I recommend purchasing the 12V electric blanket with automatic shut-off and timer settings.

However, the manual shut-off blankets are safe to use as long you unplug them after use. Always read the manufacturer’s operating manual before using it. Each product might have a different operating guide.

The Verdict

The 12 Volt electric blankets you choose should keep your body warm against the cold weather. Not only that, but it should also be comfortable and safe to use.

My top pick for the best 12 Volt electric blanket is the GREAT WORKING TOOLS Car Electric Blanket .

It’s cozy, warms quickly, and is easy to wash. It’s a perfect solution if you cannot stand to get into a cold car or outside in cold weather.

Happy traveling!
