My husband and I just visited for a lovely and hot 4 nights- here are some things I wish I had better prepared for:

-The honking is pure Vietnam , the drivers are not angry they are merely signaling to each other and pedestrians that they are behind.

-Research your tailors ahead of time, there are many wonderful suggestions here on TA. I had a dress made at Bebe (wonderful, non pushy experience), but for my husbands items we thought we would 'wing it' and meander around... do not recommend! The shops all have workers happy to escort you a block or two to their location- the following discussions, fabric selections and measurements can take an easy 45-minutes before you get to the price. Know what you want, have an idea of who you want to make it, ask for price details before you get into any of the other specifics.

-Don't sleep on Da Nang ! You are likely flying into/leaving from this airport. We much preferred this area to Hoi An (personal preference, please don't attack!), it had great beaches and walkable areas and great sights, plus plenty of half day trips if that is your thing. We wished we had shaved an extra day off Hoi An and spent it here.

We stayed at Mulberry Silk Village and it was a well run resort with a good breakfast & 2 pools which we used to the fullest! Easy to get to town from there. Excellent staff, would recommend.

We golfed at Hoiana Shores and it was a fantastic experience; 30 minutes from old town, beautiful facility, knowledgeable caddies- was truly a once in a lifetime experience for us, and something that was of interest to us.

One that we've used, and one that often gets recommended, is Baolau.com

We are spending about a week each in 4 places although I have split 7 days between Hoi An 3 nights [beachside after advice] and 4 nights Danang. My thinking has been 2 tours in the week plus relaxing and seeing what is around locally. I had noted the Perfume River tour and citadel so appreciate your mention of them.

My itinerary is HCM arrival 2 nights to relax after an 8 hour night flight - Dalat 6 nights - Hoi An/Danang 7 nights - Hue 7 nights - Hanoi 6 nights - HCM 2 nights. I've chosen to stay longer in Hanoi than to add days to Ho Chi Minh at the end. Direct flights home aren't available every day of the week. Getting back home from Hanoi with less than 18 hours travelling wasn't doable hence backtracking to Ho Chi Minh, 2 nights there then home directly.

I had a comment earlier that I seemed to be doing too much. I am a bit concerned about that opinion however we are well travelled, especially in Asia where we usually spend a month at a time in one country. I have had the experience of needing to abandon part of a trip and I'm not afraid of having to be flexible, despite the planning. At our ages the chances of doing a shorter trip or one with reduced destinations so far from Australia in the future, are very much in doubt.

You're actually in the well-paced group.

We've seen several hectic itineraries on the forum quite often.

How many days do you have in Vietnam ?

Where else are you planning to go?

There is enough to keep you busy and in combination with the beach.,..

We're going back to Hoi An in June and Da Nang, both 4 nights.

In between we fly to Nha Trang.

It all depends on what you want to do or explore and what your interests are.

We will be in Vietnam for at least a month...but probably longer 😊

We spend 6 weeks there very happily, well we did pre Covid anyway! Hopefully it will happen again soon. But we are very happy to spend our time relaxing on the beach & at the pool. We always do a few things touristy, but have made many local friends so we tend to socialise with them a fair bit too. I’m keen to hear how you’ve gone with travel insurance if you’ve done it. I’m hoping it isn’t such a prohibitive price that it will prevent us going. My husband has pre-existing conditions so it’s always expensive without adding Covid cover.

The travel insurance is a minefield at the moment, however there are a few good ones out there. I wanted an annual policy as we have several trips booked and I opted for the worldwide one. This has covid cover (which covers medical cost) and I felt the price was pretty good as I have a few pre existing conditions as does my husband. We are located in Australia so I guess where you are located will have some bearing on the cost. I hope this helps 🙂

I used our health fund insurance as they do travel insurance as well. AHM they were very easy to deal with and cost effective. Good luck 😊

Its really about your budget. Is it $20 a night a or $200?

I'd prefer to be on the other side of town, as in the beach side of town, but that's just a personal thing.

I can't find a Hoi An Holiday Hotel.

We stayed at LongLife Riverside both times and were quite happy but that was 4 years ago..its right across the road from the bridge .

About $30-35USD… thanks

It is in a great location with great staff and breakfast.

I can highly recommend it.

Were going back in june to silkian hotel, stayed there last june, boutique style with a good pool, great staff.

Half town half beach.

It opend just last year .

@Chelsie, Golden Holiday Hotel & Spa is new, just after covid time but it is a lovely hotel getting lots of nice feedbacks from our clients
