Cruises from the UK to New Zealand often call at North Island. Picturesque Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty was discovered by the Maori in the 13th-century. Tauranga translates as ‘the place of rest of anchorage’. It has grown over the years, with the Strand Waterfront a popular attraction due to its lively cafes, pubs and restaurants. Another popular port of call on the North Island is Auckland, overlooked by the iconic Sky Tower. It offers outstanding food, wine and shopping, as well as countless opportunities to embrace nature. In the west is dense rainforest, to the east are golden beaches, and the north is where you’ll find the rolling hills of wine country.

One of Australia’s highlights, and indeed a highlight of an Australia cruise from the UK is Sydney, capital of New South Wales. It is best known for Opera House, a masterpiece of 20th-century architecture, but there is so much more to the city. Discover stunning Bondi Beach or enjoy the views from Sydney Harbour Bridge. Melbourne and Adelaide also have a lot to offer. Melbourne’s mix of world-class dining, art galleries and shopping make it an exciting city to explore, while Adelaide is home to renowned museums including the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum.

Australia CRUISES

Exploring the land down under.

Australia with its diverse mix of shiny modern cities, indigenous culture, abundant wildlife, and pristine beaches is a cruise destination well worth exploring. On a 2022-2023 cruise to Australia, learn about the culture of the country’s original inhabitants, explore national parks both on land and below the waves or just simply relax while soaking up the sun. Popular destinations included in Australia cruises are Sydney , Cairns , Brisbane  and Darwin. Sydney greets you with its sail-like design of the world-famous Sydney Opera House , a welcoming site sailing into Sydney Harbour . The harbour is the perfect starting off point as you explore what this modern city has to offer. Located in the heart of the Sydney Central Business District , you will find the Royal Botanic Gardens. Within these gardens, you will have the opportunity to learn about the aboriginal culture, enjoy lunch at one of the cafes or pop-up bars, or hop on the Choo-Choo express to see every single corner of the garden. If you are feeling more adventurous the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb is an exhilarating experience with 360-degree panoramic views as your reward. Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef . Home to coral gardens and colourful fish, the reef is a bucket list experience for both divers and snorkelers alike. From Cairns explore Daintree National Park . Embark on cruise across the Daintree River, keeping an eye out for salt-water crocodiles that inhabit the area. Mossman Gorge, located in the park, is famous for a variety of trails allowing you to explore the lower rainforest canopy. It is also one of the few places in the country where you can gain an insight into the lives, culture and beliefs of Australia’s indigenous population and their connection with nature. Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and known for its spectacular beaches. It is tucked between the Gold Coast to the south and the Sunshine Coast to the north. Leisurely stroll along the Brisbane River and pop in to one of the many cafes or restaurants for a bite to eat. Or enjoy getting up close and personal with koalas and kangaroos at Lone Pine Sanctuary, a 5-acre open-plan reserve. Perched on a peninsula is Darwin , the capital of the Northern Territory and former frontier outpost. Lush national parks such as Litchfield and Nitmiluk put you up close and personal with the Aussie wildlife.

BE TANTALISED BY TASMANIA

Tasmania is an underrated Australian state that's home to Cradle Mountain, the World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site and the eccentric Museum of Old and New Art among other things to do.

In northern Australia, be aware that stingers (dangerous jellyfish) swarm the seas in the summer, from approximately October to March.

Tipping is not customary in Australia.

The universal phone number for taxi services across the country is 131008.

HOW TO DINE DOWN UNDER

'Fair dinkum' – Aussie slang for 'authentic' or 'genuine' – Australian cuisine has been influenced by England, New Zealand and even Italy. However, there's nothing more Australian than throwing some steak and snags (sausages) on a barbie (barbecue) – no prawns allowed.

Australian Classic Steak and Frites

POPULAR PUB GRUB

There are two dishes to order at an Aussie pub: a chicken parmigiana (called a parmi Down Under) or a burger, which will usually come topped with Australian specialities like beetroot or pineapple. Of course, you can always go for a classic steaks: Porterhouses are popular in Victoria, while rump steaks are particularly beloved in New South Wales.

Australian Biscuits

THE REAL BISCUIT

Australia has some delicious sweet treats, but it's perhaps best-known for perfecting the biscuit. Try Anzac biscuits with oats and golden syrup, lamingtons – a sponge square covered in chocolate and coconut – and Tim Tams, the local favourite brand of chocolate-covered biscuits.

Australian Meat Pies

IT'S PIE TIME

Meat pies – with a flaky pastry crust baked around a savoury filling of ground meat (typically beef or lamb) and spices – are a traditional Australian lunch or snack found in bakeries across the country. Another favourite is the Chiko Roll, similar to a large spring roll but filled with the signature Aussie ingredients of mutton, celery, barley, rice, carrots and spices.

Related Ports

The Australian coast is dotted with beautiful ports, like Esperance, to explore. In Queensland, Cairns and Airlie Beach are both gateways to the Great Barrier Reef. Meanwhile, Darwin is a gateway to the Northern Territory's rugged natural sights, including Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks and Uluru.

Australia's best cruises for 2022

Cruise Passenger

Cruise enthusiasts have been drifting in the doldrums of late, but it seems fresh winds are now picking up as a flotilla of cruises ships gets ready for the 2022 sailing season in Australia.

And with everything from fun-filled megaships to luxury small ships and intrepid expedition vessels heading our way, there’s plenty of variety on the horizon.

The big players are all promising full Australian seasons. Among P&O Australia’s mix of domestic voyages are Barrier Reef Discovery cruises out of Brisbane, A Taste of Tasmania cruises from Adelaide, and a four-night cruise return from Adelaide that visits Port Lincoln and Kangaroo Island.

Meanwhile, P&O’s South Pacific cruises, most out of Cairns and Sydney, will visit destinations such as New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. From Brisbane, a series of seven-night Pacific Island Hopper itineraries take in Noumea, Port Vila and Lifou, with several days at sea so guests can enjoy the entertainment and amenities of Pacific Encounter.

Princess Cruises is also anticipating a busy Australian season in Australia. Coral Princess is returning to Brisbane for Pacific island and Papua New Guinea cruises. Royal Princess and Majestic Princess will operate round-trip cruises to New Zealand from Sydney, and Grand Princess from Melbourne. There will also be Queensland, Tasmanian and Fiji cruises from eastern homeports, cruises from Adelaide and Fremantle, and a 28-day Round Australia circumnavigation in October 2022.

Royal Caribbean’s 2022–23 season Down Under features two high-tech Quantum-class ships. From October 2022, Quantum of the Seas sails from Brisbane to destinations in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Ovation of the Seas sails from Sydney to Queensland, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Meanwhile, Radiance of the Seas has 22 departures from Sydney to destinations such as Great Barrier Reef, South Pacific, New Zealand and Tasmania.

Also arriving towards the end of 2022 is Celebrity Eclipse . Between September 2022 and April 2023, it will offer itineraries ranging from two-night sampler cruises to 18 night voyages in the Pacific, departing from Sydney and Auckland. The ship overnights in Adelaide, Cairns and Hobart on some itineraries, has added Port Arthur as a new port, and has 8pm departures from some ports that provide longer stays.

Tasmania is certainly tipped to be an ever-more popular destination. Carnival Cruise Line too is offering Tasmanian cruises on both its Australia-based ships. Carnival Splendor, homeported in Sydney, will also visit New Zealand in November 2022 before sailing to Papua New Guinea. Carnival Spirit, based in Brisbane, will operate three-day sampler crises and itineraries to the Great Barrier Reef, New Caledonia and Vanuatu.

Cunard is homeporting Queen Elizabeth in Australia for a record 124 days between November 2021 and March 2022, culminating in a rendezvous with Queen Victoria in Sydney Harbour. Among the cruises is an inaugural Fiji and South Pacific journey and inaugural visits to Lautoka, Suva and Eden. The ship is back again at the end of 2022, sailing Fremantle–Sydney, Tasmanian cruises out of Melbourne, and New Zealand cruises from Melbourne and Sydney. The most spectacular offering is an Australian circumnavigation, round-trip from Bali.

Other large cruise lines are making briefer Australian appearances. The newly renovated Norwegian Spirit will sail Sydney–Auckland and Sydney–Bali in March 2022, a 14-day voyage from Sydney to Papeete in April, and returns for a Sydney–Auckland cruise in December. Holland America’s Oosterdam cruises Sydney–Auckland in early 2022 before heading onwards to Seattle. And Viking Cruises is sailing Sydney–Auckland cruises (or the reverse) in January, February and December 2022 and Sydney–Bali (or the reverse) in March.

Those looking for smaller luxury ships won’t be disappointed, either. Crystal Symphony sails Melbourne to Sydney in January on a predominantly New Zealand cruise, then Sydney–Bali. Crystal Serenity sails Auckland–Fremantle in February. Regent Seven Seas’ inaugural season here starts at the end of 2022 when Explorer sails Singapore–Sydney, followed by Sydney–Auckland itineraries.

Seabourn Odyssey visits from December 2022 to March 2023, with five 16-day voyages between Sydney and Auckland, and a 16-day Queensland Coast & Orchard Isles voyage from Sydney to Bali. Meanwhile, most of Oceania’s New Zealand cruises from Sydney in early 2022 are already sold out, but Regatta sails an Aussie Adventure circumnavigation in December 2022.

As for expedition cruising, the most varied Australian choices come from Coral Expeditions, including extended Kimberley sailing dates aboard new vessel Coral Geographer , a new 18-night Across the Top expedition between Broome and Cairns (or the reverse) in January 2022, and a new 14-night Great Southern Coastline cruise from Melbourne to Fremantle in March.

Ponant has two expedition ships in the Kimberley between March and September 2022, followed by a New Guinea cruise from Darwin, two Papua New Guinea cruises from Cairns, and an east-coast cruise to Sydney. It then offers a Tasmanian itinerary over Christmas and New Year. Silversea also returns for a Kimberley season. Silver Shadow will also sail Cairns–Melbourne in January 2022, followed by New Zealand itineraries from Sydney and Melbourne.

The most adventurous expedition offering is Aurora Expeditions’ all-new voyages from Hobart aboard Greg Mortimer to the Ross Sea and Commonwealth Bay in East Antarctica, running until March 2022. It’s the first time that the polar specialist has sailed this part of the Antarctic, where it will provide its usual adventurous excursions such as kayaking and polar snorkelling. The cruise also visits Australia’s remote Macquarie Island and New Zealand’s Subantarctic Islands.

Cruising in Australia in 2022.

I'm not from Australia or New Zealand. I wondering when is going to start in Australia . We have a cruise booked for Melbourne to Vancouver in 2022.

What are chances that this cruise go ahead ? This is the last time that we could probably get to Australia due to age and health issues.

I think the chances are slim. In your case there are two factors to consider:

1. Whether the ship will be in Australia for our 21/22 season. If not then it won't be going to Vancouver from Melbourne.

2. Whether our international border will be open for you to come here. At the moment the government is saying it won't reopen until mid-2022. Even when it does reopen it may only be to selected countries at first depending on how well those have controlled their Covid outbreaks.

To assist you, please advise the ship and scheduled sailing date in 2022.

Our government has said that our international borders won't open until mid 2022 - at least. Even if cruises to NZ are permitted in the first half of the year, it is unlikely that international visitors will be allowed to join the cruises. In addition, if your Sapphire cruise is a trans-Pacific, the ship might be permitted to come to Australia, but it is likely that it would be without passengers. We will have to wait and see.

Thanks that’s what I’ve been hearing over here in Canada . Might have go with my Plan B or C cruise.

Ditto what Aus Traveller said. Your plan A looks doubtful at this stage. Not the news you wanted to hear, but we can only go on what the Australian Govt is telling us and it is grim.

Stay safe and I hope something works out for you.

Lucky I don’t have to make a final decision until mid October. I suspect your right about not being able to do plan a.  Unless your government decides that people who are fully vaccinated can enter the country. That’s the way the UK and EU are going .

Lets hope! Unfortunately our government are hyper risk-averse. And due to the fact information on reduction in transmissibility from the vaccine is still being gathered, realistically it isn't even a good idea to let fully vaccinated people into the country freely without also having a decent portion of our population also vaccinated as vaccinated individuals can still carry and transmit the virus. Current projections are for having a decent portion vaccinated by end of year and I'm hoping very hard that we can have a phased re-opening from them.

After the majority of Australians are vaccinated, the government might (I stress might) change its mind and allow vaccinated people to enter the country earlier than mid 2022. On the other hand, they might stick with the mid-2022 scenario, but only fully-vaccinated people to come at first.

Sorry this could probably be the last time you can get to Australia due to age and health issues.  When cruising overseas will commence from Australia for people from overseas is not known at this stage.  Many Aussies are in the same boat waiting for Government approval for our borders to reopen.  With Melbourne currently in lockdown for a week because of outbreaks of the virus, it seems later rather than sooner.  Bon Voyage for your plans B or C.

I would also like to know from anyone in New Zealand about the opening of their borders.

I can only offer an opinion.  NZ is currently closed to cruise ships.  Our government has stated that it is extremely unlikely there will be border openings this year (2021).  The plan is to have everyone vaccinated by year end but that is dependent on supply etc.  The govt has also stated that once that goal is achieved, the border will not reopen with a bang but instead will be slow.  I would imagine, much like our 'bubbles' with Australia and the Cook Islands, it will be selective.  Possibly like the traffic light system in the UK, green light countries, red light countries etc with gradings based on vaccination rates, Covid management etc.  This last is speculation on my part.  I think cruise ships will be low on the list of priorities because they will be difficult to manage in a slow border reopening.  Maybe some internal cruises but not the big multinational lines.

Last, the cruise ships that come to NZ have their seasonal homeports in Australia.  To change that to NZ would take a lot of pre-planning and I can't see that happening this season.  So, my opinion is that there will be no cruise ships here in the 21-22 season.  Others may choose to disagree.

Thanks

Because the Eastbound reposition is at the end of the 21/22 season there is a fair chance it will not happen.

If your circumstances permit, another option is to do it in reverse for the 22/23 season.

There is a good itinerary on the Grand leaving Vancouver for Sydney in Sept 2022 for the season start.

That is only 6 months later than Sapphire.

The main disadvantage is you have to do the flight home at the end of the holiday instead of the start.

I think if Australia does allow a limited number of ships to restart cruising under strict conditions, one being domestic cruising only, then NZ might be agreeable to stretching domestic to include NZ as part of the bubble agreement. Then the bubble might extend to South Pacific countries. Ships coming from outside the bubble would not be permitted to have passengers onboard when they arrived so no repositioning cruises, no trans-Pacific cruises, no world cruises etc.

So far NZ has, been stricter than Aus, in my opinion. I doubt that is going to change.

I agree that your suggestions are likely for the re-start of cruising. Maybe we won't see a more 'normal' until late in 2022.

Appreciate this very rational thread. Certainly confirms my thinking. We are booked Sydney to Auckland in February 2022 which is almost certainly not going to happen for a Canadian. Actively looking at what Plan B might look like.

Just a side note.......  consider a Plan C as well......

My thoughts for us are... cruising is now on the back burner

not as been there done it..... but nice to again one day...

Actually my feeling is that NZ is more likely to open up quicker than Australia. We've never prevented citizens from leaving - you still have that in place - I find that quite outrageous.

Since the Oz bubble opened  there is no issue  getting places in hotel quarantine - if you stay less than 6 months it will cost you $3100 - but you can do it. In fact there have been reports of Australia using us as a way out of fortress Oz.

I agree with  @onlyslightlymad  with his assessment of NZ's approach. So long as a vaccine roll out stay on track - and we're waiting on more info of vaccine  arrival dates in the next week or so.- then I see a good chance that everyone who wants one (at  that's about 80% now) will have had it by Xmas - at that point there will be serious pressure to allow vaccinated visitors in without quarantine.

So coming for a visit seems vaguely realistic 1/4 next year. But cruising will be different - for NZ it  totally depends on what Oz does - and all the big cruise ships are based out of Australia - we don't have a viable industry solo

Echo the comments about Australians being denied the ability to leave the country, except for rarely authorised exemptions or if holding essential worker status.

Remarkable that there is no exit plan.

Meanwhile a plan/proposal has been announced for overseas students to return /enter South Australia and quarantine  at a facility at Parafield airport.

We had looked at a trip on the Ghan but given the events of this week, reports of off loading people in the outback and a bus trip of 12 hours, Marla to Adelaide, think we will pass on that.

We get emails with wonderful cruise offers daily but unable to act on any of them.

Can see why people are renovating their homes or buying a place as a holiday option if they can afford the rising prices.

Still good to dream.

There was an interesting article in Stuff recently with Dr Ashley Bloomfield where he was discussing what the situation could look like at border opening time.

Obviously when both NZ and Aust re-open borders to other countries we will have to shift from our elimination strategy to one of Covid management in a vaccinated population.

This will cause some anxiety amongst much of the population, but we have no other choice and this should be manageable.

Both countries will re-open their borders next year when vaccinated and we will handle the situation.

NZ is fortunate in having the election late last year.

Aust has the added political pressure with an election coming due soon.

Therefore, I think NZ will re-open early next year.

However, this is very likely to be only via air travel and in relatively small numbers initially.

It will be a controlled phase in.

I can see why people criticize the government's restriction on people leaving Australia, but I feel we have to consider that if this restriction wasn't in place, we would have had thousands more people leaving. That would not be a problem, but virtually all of them would want to return at a later time. How would it have been if the government had said that if they left, they could not return until the COVID emergency was a thing of the past. Wow!

Our quarantine system for returning citizens has been over-loaded for a long time and this is where infections in the community start. Some of those who unfortunately brought the virus in, had been granted an exemption to travel overseas, but brought the virus with them when they returned.

We have all heard about the tens of thousands of Aussies 'stranded' overseas who cannot get a flight home or the required place in a quarantine hotel. With no restriction on departures, we would have many more thousands trying to get flights home. Maybe those who left Australia after the pandemic started, should be at the end of the queue when applying for a return flight.

Like the cricketers, they should still be in the queue in Mumbai.

I have just received an email from Oceania Cruises offering 19 cruises to Aus and NZ from Jan 2022.

The first one is trans Pacific from LA to Perth, via usual South Pacific ports of call.  I can't understand how cruise lines can advertise these cruises, with a clear conscious, when Aus and NZ borders are closed and South Pacific ports status are unknown.  These are not local cruises but long cruises with long haul flights involved.  I hope American passengers know to check with the appropriate Governments whether they are able to enter Aus/NZ etc.

Watch Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 Online

Watch celebrity big brother uk season 23: preview.

If Big Brother has the capacity to make household names of regular people, Celebrity Big Brother has the knack of bestowing infamy upon the already-famous. As such, it's been a reliable conveyor belt for incidents that have adhered to past contestants like the proverbial to a shovel. And still they sign up in their droves.

Outrageous reality TV personality Gary Potts, presenter Zeze Millz, and David Goldsmith, the uncle of Kate Middleton whose chequered history is littered with scandals and serious misdemeanours, are at risk in the first Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 eviction.

They were cherry-picked by X-Factor duo Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne , but will be able to plead their case to the latter, who's used to playing judge. David had better get busy spilling some beans!

The show that's tarnished 1,000 reputations has returned, so read on to find out how to watch Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 Season 23 online for FREE from anywhere.

Watch Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 online in the UK

Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 premiered on Monday, March 4 on ITV1 and streaming service ITVX at 9pm GMT .

New episodes will be broadcast on ITV1 every evening at 9pm , from Sunday through to Friday (with no broadcast on Saturdays). There will be 17 episodes in total, with the main show being followed directly by the hour-long companion series, Big Brother: Late & Live , on ITV2.

ITV1 is a free-to-air channel in the UK , though it requires a TV licence to watch live. However, you don't need one to watch catch-up TV, which you can do so via ITVX, ITV's on-demand streaming platform.

You can sign up for an ITVX account for free. All you need is an email address and a UK postcode (e.g. B1A 1AA).

Abroad? Use a VPN using the instructions below to access ITVX back home

How to watch Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 online from anywhere

If you're a UK citizen on vacation or working overseas , you can still watch Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 just as you would at home.

While ITVX is for licence fee-paying Brits and blocks access from IP addresses outside of the UK, there's a handy piece of software called a VPN, which can change your IP address to make it look like you're accessing streaming services from any country in the world.

For example, UK citizens in the States can subscribe to a VPN , join a UK based server and tune into all the programmes on ITVX from anywhere in the world, just like you would back home.

Watch Celebrity Big Brother UK as if you were at home with a VPN

Watch Celebrity Big Brother UK as if you were at home with a VPN Offering a 30-day money back guarantee, try out ExpressVPN, the best VPN for unblocking many of the major streaming services including ITVX, and stream from any device, including your mobile or tablet, laptop, TV, or gaming console. Run into any problems? ExpressVPN has an excellent customer support team on hand 24/7.

Step-by-step of using a VPN to unblock:

1. Choose a VPN and install it - our go-to recommendation is ExpressVPN

2. Connect to a server - for ITVX, for example, you'll want to connect to a server based in the UK

3. Go to the live stream you wish to access - for Celebrity Big Brother UK , head to ITVX .

Can I watch Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 in the US?

There aren't any confirmed plans for Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 to be broadcast by any Stateside network. The celebrities wouldn't really translate, plus CBS appears to have abandoned its own version of Celebrity Big Brother , focusing instead on the civilian iteration.

But remember, if you're a Brit abroad, you can always port yourself back home and watch concurrent with the UK using a VPN .

Can I watch Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 online in Australia?

There’s no option to stream Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 in Australia either. The celebrity spinoff has been long since abandoned Down Under, but if you're a franchise fan, the 16th season of the Australian version of Big Brother will likely air on the Seven Network in November.

Can I watch Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 online in Canada?

Canadians won’t be able to hear those wonderful Geordie tones pronounce that “Barry is currently eating a boiled egg”, because Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 has no confirmed broadcaster in Canada.

That’s probably got something to do with Global TV having its own very successful version of Big Brother franchise, with  Big Brother Season 12  airing in tandem with the UK celebrity spinoff.

However, any Brits travelling away home in Canada can access their home services and watch Celebrity Big Brother concurrent with the UK by using a VPN .

Everything you need to know about Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024

The first live eviction will take place on Friday, March 8. After that there will be two per week.

Who is hosting Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024?

Friends and fellow presenters AJ Odudu and Will Best share hosting duties on Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23, as well as its companion show, Big Brother: Late & Live .

Where is the Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 23 house?

The contestants' temporary home is at Garden Studios in North London, which was described as “the largest-scale film studio in central London” when it was unveiled for the latest civilian series last year.

Will Marcus Bentley return to narrate Celebrity Big Brother?

Yes! He’s narrated every season of Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother so far. And it wouldn’t be the same without that endearing Geordie accent.

What channel can I watch Celebrity Big Brother: Late & Live be on?

On ITV2 right after each episode of the main show. Celebrity Big Brother: Late & Live gives viewers the latest scoop from special guests and recently evicted contestants.

Is there an after hours Celebrity Big Brother 2024 live stream?

Ukraine’s business how they use cruise missiles, says UK; Moscow warned against interfering in Transnistria after separatist request for ‘protection’

  • See all our Ukraine war coverage

Several members of Ukrainian special forces have died in an assault on the Tendra Spit in Kherson oblast, according to reports . Ukraine’s special operations forces confirmed the deaths , suggesting those who died had stayed behind to ensure the main contingent escaped.

Russia claimed on Thursday that its forces had re-entered the village of Robotyne, which Ukraine retook from the occupiers in August 2023 . Russia’s state-run Interfax news agency cited the defence ministry saying troops had taken over some buildings but it was unclear whether Ukrainian troops had completely withdrawn. There was no confirmation from reliable sources. Robotyne lies between Avdiivka and Kherson, and south-east of Zaporizhzhia, on the frontline in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Ukraine’s forces shot down 10 Russian aircraft in as many days with the latest being two Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers on 27 February , according to the Ukrainian general staff.

The UK government said on Wednesday that how Ukraine uses donated cruise missiles is “the business of the armed forces of Ukraine” after comments by Germany’s chancellor, Olaf Scholz, about possible UK and French involvement in targeting, and how Germany would not get involved in similar activity by sending its Taurus missiles.

The Russian defence ministry claimed through state media on Wednesday that its forces had captured Petrovske, formerly renamed by Ukraine as Stepove, in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine’s foreign ministry on Wednesday cautioned against any meddling from Russia in Moldova’s neighbouring breakaway region of Transnistria , whose separatist leaders have supposedly appealed to Moscow for “protection” – a ploy that has previously been instigated by Russia to justify invading other countries.

Moldova’s government has called the Transistrian separatists’ request a propaganda event . Transnistria is a primarily Russian-speaking region that is legally part of Moldova. In February 2022 leading up to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian-backed militants in Ukraine also asked for Moscow’s “protection”.

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has promoted the idea of joint arms production at a summit of south-eastern European countries in the Albanian capital, Tirana . Zelenskiy proposed a Ukrainian-Balkans defence forum in Kyiv or a Balkan capital, similar to initiatives held last year with British and US weapons companies. A joint declaration signed by 10 countries at the summit said their leaders were ready to take part in a Ukrainian-led peace summit in Switzerland this spring to discuss Zelenskiy’s vision of peace.

Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Romania are Nato members, have joined western sanctions against Russia, and sent arms and equipment to Ukraine . There are significant arms industries in parts of the Balkans left over from the former Yugoslavia. Serbia has not imposed sanctions on Russia, and neither Belgrade nor Kyiv recognise the independence of Kosovo, an Albanian enclave that claims independence, backs Ukraine and seeks EU and Nato membership.

The EU should consider using profits from frozen Russian assets to buy military supplies for Ukraine, the European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, said on Wednesday . Japan has backed the idea, saying the EU proposals appear to have a basis in international law.

Poland’s prime minister, Donald Tusk, said his government was considering a “temporary” closure of the border with Ukraine for goods, amid tensions over low-priced Ukrainian grain . “We are talking with the Ukrainian side about a temporary closure of the border, the cessation in general of trade.” However, Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukrainian deputy PM, said: “Ukraine is not going to close its borders with Poland. No one from the Ukrainian side is negotiating about this. Our people are fighting for their existence in a war with the Russian aggressor. For us, a stable border is a matter of survival.”

Ensuring Ukraine’s success against Russia is “the biggest test of our generation”, UK Foreign Office minister Andrew Mitchell said on Wednesday . He added: “At the G20 foreign ministers meeting it was clear there are few illusions about what Russia is doing and that the UN and Britain underlined how dangerous Putin’s actions are for the entire world.”

Russian forces struck 11 communities along the Sumy oblast border in 42 separate attacks on Wednesday, the regional military administration reported according to the Kyiv Independent . No casualties or damage to local infrastructure were reported.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov will attend a diplomacy forum in Turkey from Friday, the countries’ governments said . Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Lavrov would meet Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.

A court in southern Russia jailed a Ukrainian man for 11 years and six months after convicting him of espionage for trying to procure secret missile components for Ukraine , Russian news agencies reported on Wednesday.

China’s Eurasia envoy, Li Hui, will visit Russia, Ukraine and the headquarters of the EU this week for talks . The trip will represent “the second round of shuttle diplomacy on seeking a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis”, China’s foreign ministry said in a statement, adding Li would also go to France, Germany and Poland.

Reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother is back on UK screens, with a new set of famous faces all set to enter the iconic house.

While none of the celebrities set to compete in this year's show have been revealed in the run-up to the show's premiere, there's been plenty of speculation as to who the housemates may be, with Sharon Osbourne, pop impresario Louis Walsh and Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu all heavily rumored to be entering the house. Intriguingly, Gary Goldsmith, the 58-year-old uncle of Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, is also being tipped to appear.

The Big Brother franchise now has a new home in the UK on ITV, and AJ Odudu and Will Best are once again on hand as hosts, having presented the regular civilian version of the show at the tail end of last hear on the network.

Don't miss a moment of the housemate drama by following our guide to watching Celebrity Big Brother UK from anywhere in the world.

You'll also be able to watch the show online for free via the network's on demand streaming service ITVX (formerly ITV Hub) from anywhere.

It's also worth noting that Celebrity Big Brother will also have two spin-off shows.

Can I Stream Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 in the US, Canada or Australia?

At present there's no confirmed broadcaster of the latest season of the star-packed UK show for the States, Canada or Australia.

That also means that if you're outside of the UK traveling for pleasure or for work, you're unlikely to be able to watch the show like you normally would at home, thanks to geo-blocking.

There is one option to get around this, however. By using a VPN, as explained above, you can set your location to the UK where the show is being broadcast and go from there.

Tips for streaming the Celebrity Big Brother UK 2024 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- experience and success may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble viewing after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log in to your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a network's app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .
