Will Downing was as fabulous as ever. Unfortunately for him, the acoustics were horrible at the Kings Theater in Brooklyn. I was sitting 4th row center orchestra and I could hardly hear his wonderful voice with the excessive bass that his mike was putting out. I will go to see him again, but not there. My husband was not able to make the show due to a car accident, and as disappointed as he was, he would have been more disappointed had he been sitting so close and not able to fully appreciate Will Downing.

Words cannot describe how wonderful the concert was I was surprised about the venue first time there it was very small however, Will Downing as usual was superb as well as the other artists. can't wait to go back next week's concert with the old school rappers thanks I had a had a blast

I attended the Will Downing show 09/07 and he was hot as usual. The other performances were good but my ticket was for Will. The only thing is I wish he would sing some of his other great hits. If you’ve never been and you want to hear good baritone masculine man sound he’s your guy.

They say a man’s “soul” is his spiritual essence.  Life’s twists and turns can lift that soul high into the sky or send it crashing to the ground below.  Unfortunately, 2023 started with the latter for  Will Downing , following the unexpected and soul-crushing loss of daughter Aron Siobhan Downing in January.  As a father, he was devastated…heartbroken.  As an artist, he sought solace and comfort through his craft…facing the hurt head-on and exploring multiple themes of love to begin the healing. Persevering through the pain Downing is poised to finish the year with his soul rising…literally!   The Prince of Sophisticated Soul  is ready to share his 7- song masterclass in triumph over tragedy,  Soul Rising !

Celebrating an insane 35 years in the “ bizness ” and 27 Albums to his credit  Will Downing  will not be stopped!  Flexing on his international appeal, the lead single  “What Part of My Love”  shot to the top of the UK Soul Chart Top 30 and parked there.  Those who no longer listen to new releases as the collective work it was intended to be, should make an exception in this case.  Although not a “concept” album, the pieces of  Soul Rising  fit together beautifully as a single statement and should be enjoyed as such.  We all know the about the smoothness, but there’s a brand-new kind of…dare I say…”Funkiness”, that I think is here to stay!

You (and your speakers, Headphones) etc….. will feel the difference right off the jump, with the lead-off cut,  “Closer to Me” , when that bass and drum starts hitting a little differently.  The familiar writing and production tandem of Downing and guitarist Randy Bowland , turn the heat up a bit from their usual formula.  With keyboardist  Mike Logan Sr.  and background vocalist  Ms. Monet  rounding out the groove, I dare you not to move somethin’!

House of Love , another Downing/Bowland collab, gives me “Maze” vibes, however unintended, but that’s never a bad thing!  To the extent over the last 4 decades, these two surviving entities may have directly or indirectly influenced each other, I’ll welcome that musical baby into the fold every time with open arms and ears.

Make no mistake… Will Downing didn’t forget the “smooth” that made the Man the Myth the Legend!  Nor did he abandon his world-famous knack for what he affectionately calls “interpretations” of classic hits. He plucked an absolute diamond of a gem from arguably one of the finest early 70’s albums, The Stylistics, Round Two , and their hauntingly enchanting, “ You’re As Right As Rain” !  If you’ve ever “slow-dragged” with a blue light in the basement, you will be transported to afros, platforms, bell-bottoms and Brut cologne…if you know you know, but I digress. In addition to assists from long-time collaborator Ronnie Foster, Downing recruits the sweet trumpet of solo Artist and one half of 90’s duo Imprompt2, Johnny Brit t to seal vibe.

Soul Rising then takes a solemn turn to the heart and very “Soul” of this release.  Downing, maybe for his own well-being, had to stare his tragedy down squarely and turn art into therapy.  “ Till We Meet Again”,  serves as a father’s sweet hand-off to God to care for his angel Siobhan, until they’re joined again divinely as father and daughter in heavenly reward.  An unimaginable undertaking for a parent attempting to channel pain into art.  The song is introduced by the actual last New Year’s Day last voicemail exchanged by Downing and Siobhan, which contain no hint of the drama to unfold just 10 days later.  Downing makes the song a true family affair, with daughter Aja and wife Audrey Wheeler Downing lending their supportive voices. A passionately moving albeit gut-wrenching tribute, but well done.

Given that dynamic, it’s understandable that the final three tracks all lean into a theme of “Love”.  Starting with the aforementioned smash, “ What Part of My Love” , but pivoting back to that new “funk” vibe with “ Love You Right” , this time with Hubert Eaves IV joining the revival.  An intentional sequence I would think, to lift and restore the spirit of Soul Rising !

I think the final cut, “ Love of A Lifetime” , as a message, speaks simultaneously of what we seek in both a personal relationship and the love of a father to a child.  Maybe that wasn’t the intent, but given the circumstances, I heard both.  Love is love!

Family…, Will Downing dug deep for this one. Even down to the Album cover a original piece of artwork by Frank Morrison.  Realize, recognize and appreciate a real man, a real artist and a real father with his Soul Rising !

Obama sparks buzz with surprise visit to 10 Downing Street amid Buckingham Palace drama

Maybe Barack Obama knows what’s ailing Kate Middleton.

The 44th president raised eyebrows Monday when he popped by No. 10 Downing Street for a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Obama, 62, was tight-lipped about the reason for his surprise visit, but the British government said the sitdown had nothing to do with any royal family issues.

“The Prime Minister welcomed Barack Obama to No 10 this afternoon for an informal meeting, as part of the former President’s visit to London with the Obama Foundation,” a Downing Street spokesperson told The Post.

“They discussed a range of issues, including international affairs and AI.”

Obama, who founded his eponymous foundation along with wife Michelle in 2014, was seen entering Sunak’s home office via the back door at around 3 p.m. London time.

The former president remained for roughly one hour before departing alongside US Ambassador to the United Kingdom Jane Hartley, Sky News reported .

Reporters gathered outside No. 10 attempted to coax Obama over to take questions, to which the graying former leader responded, “I’m tempted” before walking back to a waiting motorcade.

The 44th president traveled to London three times during his eight years in office, with his last visit coming in April 2016.

Over the weekend, Obama delivered remarks to a sold-out crowd at the FTI SuperNova technology festival in Belgium.

Obama also stopped by Laeken Castle in Brussels, where he posed for a photo with Belgium’s King Philippe and Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant.

Sunak, 43, has been outspoken about trying to modernize government policies for the era of artificial intelligence.

Last fall, he hosted an AI Safety Summit that Vice President Kamala Harris attended.

Obama’s visit took place as Buckingham Palace finds itself engulfed in drama over the Princess of Wales’ absence from the public eye after undergoing abdominal surgery earlier this year .

Rumors about her condition have reached a fever pitch after she released a doctored family photo last week.

The total solar eclipse on April 8 will be a once-in-a-lifetime event to experience in Northeast Ohio.

What is a solar eclipse? Well, the moon orbits Earth approximately every 27 days. A solar eclipse is the cosmic coincidence when the moon passes exactly between the Earth and the sun, thereby casting a shadow onto Earth and blocking our view of the sun.

On April 8, the path of totality (or the shadow of the moon) will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States and Canada.

In Northeast Ohio, we will see the moon completely cover the sun, revealing the sun’s outer atmosphere -- otherwise known as the solar corona.

You will notice the sky become quite dark; other stars and planets will be visible. Animals will behave as if it were dusk. Deer will be active, birds will head toward the trees for shelter and nighttime insects will begin to make noise.

The experience of totality will be all around you, so make sure to take it all in. Even on a cloudy day, you will still notice changes in light and temperature as the shadow of the moon passes over us.

The Details:

Depending on your exact location in Northeast Ohio, you can plan for the following schedule on April 8:

• Partial phase begins: 1:53 to 2:01 p.m.

• Totality begins: 3:09 to 3:15 p.m.

• Partial phase begins: 3:12 to 3:19 p.m.

• Eclipse ends: 3:25 to 4:30 p.m.

Totality will last for 3 minutes and 50 seconds. The entire event will last 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Eclipse Safety:

Eye protection is extremely important when viewing a partial or total solar eclipse. To safely observe an eclipse, you must wear eclipse glasses or number 14 welder’s glasses.

Do not look at the sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses -- the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury.

You do not need to wear eclipse glasses all day. Only wear them when you are looking directly at the sun. Your pets do not need glasses either.

Eclipse Activities:

Another way to view an eclipse is to use a pinhole projector, which has a small opening (for example, a hole punched in an index card) that you can use to project an image of the sun onto a nearby surface.

With the sun at your back, you can then safely view the projected image.

You can also take your kitchen colander outdoors and observe its shadows on the ground. The circular holes of your colander will project crescent shapes onto the ground during the partial phases of a solar eclipse.

Join the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center for its planetarium show, Total Solar Eclipse, at 2 p.m. March 30 and April 6. Recommended for ages 7 and older. Tickets are $10/person (includes pair of eclipse glasses).

Advance registration is encouraged at www.lensc.org/planetarium . The center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
