29 Muslim Influencers Are Setting the Bar High

We don’t usually look at religion when we select an influencer ; however, Muslim influencers are getting popular and some have millions of followers. It’s wise to pay attention to them and enjoy the benefits they offer.

To help you pick the right one, we have covered some of the best Muslim influencers:

Does Religion Matter in Influencer Marketing?

This is a controversial and sensitive question. If you think about it, religion should not matter in influencer marketing; however, reports suggest that consumers pay attention to this factor, which makes religion an important consideration.

Consumers are more likely to trust and engage with influencers who share their religious beliefs. Science has proven that religious individuals are trusted more than people with no religious affiliations. The general consensus is the same around the world.

People believe that religious leaders play an important role in communities. They often have good recommendations and only want the best for others. Thus, recommendations coming from religious individuals are usually valued higher than recommendations that do not come from people who enjoy a pious image. This phenomenon is quite understandable since the world of influencer marketing is full of scams and fake reviews.

Consumers know that influencers post fake praises just to help sell products and earn commissions. They, however, trust influencers who promote religion. Their endorsements often carry more weight and be more effective in reaching a specific audience. But, religion isn’t the most important factor in influencer marketing and it is usually not the first thing brands look at when looking for an influencer.

The key to successful influencer marketing is finding an influencer who is authentic, trustworthy, and knowledgeable about the product or service they are promoting, regardless of their religious affiliation.

Also, not all influencers openly talk about religion or discuss it. This is because religion is a sensitive topic, and influencers are often mindful of their audience’s beliefs and values when promoting products or services. Also, they don’t always want to be seen in a specific light and some are very careful about what they promote.

For example, an influencer who promotes a product that is considered haram (forbidden) under Islamic law may lose the trust and respect of their Muslim followers. Similarly, an influencer who promotes a product that is considered offensive or insensitive to any particular religion may face backlash and damage their reputation.

Is Your Brand Missing That Special Someone?

Connect with legit influencers who can take your brand to new heights. when you join afluencer, you can customize your own collab program and find that special influencer for your campaign., why do brands need a muslim influencer.

Here’s why more and more brands are looking for Muslim influencers:

Diverse Audience

With an estimated 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide, the Muslim community is a significant and diverse market. Partnering with a Muslim influencer can help brands reach this growing audience and tap into their unique needs and preferences.

Muslim audiences are all over the world and not just in Muslim-majority countries. For example, according to 2017 figures , there were over 3.45 million Muslims in the United States, making up about 1.1 percent of the total population. The situation is similar in several other countries, including the UK where Muslims make up nearly 7 percent of the total population.

Authenticity and Trust

Muslim consumers are more likely to trust and engage with brands that understand and cater to their values and beliefs. Thus, working with a Muslim influencer can help brands build credibility and authenticity with this audience.

Cultural Relevance

A Muslim influencer can help brands navigate the complexities of Islamic culture and ensure that their messaging and marketing efforts are culturally relevant and appropriate. This can include everything from avoiding offensive imagery or language to creating content that resonates with Muslim values and traditions.

This is very important for brands looking to enter a new market. Many international brands such as Nike and Burger King have struggled in Muslim countries due to a lack of exposure and choosing the wrong ambassadors.

Competitive Advantage

With more brands looking to tap into the Muslim market, partnering with a Muslim influencer can give your brand a competitive advantage. By working with an influencer who understands the needs and preferences of the Muslim community, you can differentiate your brand and stand out in a crowded marketplace.

The Hajj tourism market is growing at a CAGR of 7% and is expected to cross the US$ 350.0 billion mark by 2032. Working with Muslim influencers can be a great way to benefit from this opportunity.

Food Companies to Sell Halal Products

With the Muslim population growing, the demand for halal food is also on the rise. The industry reached US$ 2,221.3 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach the US$ 4,177.3 billion mark by 2028, recording a CAGR of 10.8%.

Working with food influencers can be a great way to reach people interested in halal food and boost your profits. Moreover, brands can also benefit from the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims tend to spend more, especially on food items.

Benefit from Islamic Festivals

Just like Christians spend wholeheartedly around Christmas, Muslims spend lavishly around Eid, a special occasion where it is customary to give gifts, buy new clothes, and have fun. Such festivals can be a great opportunity for brands to cash in.

Everything from clothes to toys to sweets sells like hotcakes during the season. Working with a Muslim influencer who understands these festivals and is followed by the right people can be a great way to push your brand.

Modest Clothing for Muslims

Clothing items such as hijabs and burkhas are heavily in demand. In fact, according to the 2022 State of the Global Islamic Economy Report , spending on modest fashion saw an increase of 5.7% in 2021, and the industry is rapidly growing. Surprisingly, North America is the largest market with a CAGR of 5.70%.

If you sell modest clothing and you aren’t working with Muslim influencers then you might be losing out on a very good opportunity. Sign up with Afluencer today to get access to top Muslim influencers who promote modest clothing.

Book Publishers to Attract Muslim Readers

Muslims are avid readers and almost every household has a few religious books, including The Quran, which has sold more than 800 million copies . In addition, Muslims enjoy reading Islamic literature, history, and books that teach children good manners.

Publishing houses can partner with new mothers and Muslim influencers to push these products and boost their revenue.

From DIY pilgrimages to halal restaurant tips: how this travel blogger built a community of Muslim travelers

Juhie Bhatia

Jan 21, 2022 • 6 min read

Elena Nikolova

Elena Nikolova (pictured) has spent years building a resource for Muslim travelers who are looking for relevant information and good deals.

Elena Nikolova converted to Islam in 2009. Four years later, she channeled her wanderlust into a new endeavor: helping other Muslims travel the world.

On one of Elena Nikolova’s first trips as a Muslim, she realized travel for her had changed forever. Visiting Bulgaria from the United Kingdom , she saw how her new halal diet was at odds with her pork-heavy, Bulgarian-Greek upbringing. It wasn’t long before Nikolova also noticed she was getting extra checks at the airport and more attention once she landed because of her hijab.

“I realized that whether we wanted it or not, there is prejudice against those who wear a hijab,” Nikolova said. “I realized that kind of puts Muslims off traveling.”

Since she converted to Islam in 2009, Nikolova has worked to make travel more accessible and comfortable for Muslims. A lover of deals, she began to share cheap fares and travel hacks on social media to encourage others in her new community to travel too. As a student in the UK, she often booked the longest layovers possible on her way back home to Greece just so she could explore new places.

An online forum for advocating Muslim travel

Upon the urging of a friend, Nikolova transformed her expertise into the blog Muslim Travel Girl in 2013, with the goal of helping Muslims travel while being confident in their identities and without breaking the bank. Right away, she started receiving questions related to airport security and whether certain countries were welcoming to Muslims. Her readers, mostly based in North America and Europe , were apprehensive. One of Muslim Travel Girl’s most popular videos , for example, is on navigating airports as a hijab-wearing Muslim woman.

Modern Muslim woman in an airport

Building a comfort zone

“Throughout the past seven years, we've gone through [issues with] the media and Muslims, and the hijab and problems with women traveling,” she said. “The whole point of a Muslim travel blog is to help and encourage those people, to give them the resources to actually find destination information.”

While other resources exist, Nikolova says it was especially hard to find information that spoke directly to the experience of traveling as a Muslim when she started the blog. “Even though travel [for Muslims] in general is not so different, we have some differences, like [needing] places to pray or [specific] food to eat,” she said. “Not every Muslim needs these, but it should be there.”

A recent survey found  the availability of halal food and prayer facilities among the most cited faith-based needs of Muslim travelers. Since 9/11, many Muslim travelers say they’ve faced discrimination at airports and on airplanes, ranging from extra security searches and intense questioning by airport staff to unexplainable visa troubles and hostility from fellow passengers.

The 'halal tourism' boom

At the same time, the Muslim-friendly travel market, or “halal tourism” as some call it, has been booming. The industry caters to Muslim travelers looking for destinations that meet their faith-based needs, be it a place to pray, alcohol-free hotels or women-only pools and spas. Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was estimated that by 2026, 230 million Muslim tourists would travel, locally and abroad, up from 98 million in 2010. By that time, Muslim travelers were expected to inject $300 billion into the global economy. With COVID-19, it’s now estimated it will take until 2023 to return to the same levels of Muslim tourists seen in 2019.

Nikolova attributes this increase in Muslim travelers to the global aspirations of younger Muslims, more disposable income and the persuasive power of social media. With more travelers, she says, has also come more blogs on Muslim-friendly travel, more interest from big brands and companies, conferences on the topic, and travel agencies like Halalbooking.com .

From credit card rewards to dinner recommendations

As the demographic makeup of Muslim travelers has changed, so has what Nikolova’s readers want. While initially some of Muslim Travel Girl’s most popular and requested posts were on the practicalities of traveling as a Muslim, she says now that more Muslims are traveling, the interest has shifted to what destinations to visit, insider travel tips and halal food recommendations in those places. One of their most popular topics is advice on DIY Umrah , so travelers can take the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca without using a travel agent or expensive tour package.

Bassam Ansari, who is based in Saudi Arabia , first discovered Muslim Travel Girl in 2013 through a friend. He says he often visits the site for its hotel and flight deals and has saved significant money through the site’s advice, which he finds to be personable and genuine.

“Using her reviews and travel advice I have found the best possible hotel options in quite a few different destinations,” he said. For example, Ansari says he saved 70 percent on the cost of a standard hotel room in Mecca during Ramadan, finding a room for $300 instead of the usual $1,000, because of Nikolova’s advice on how to effectively buy and use hotel reward points.

The Kaaba, Mecca

Small changes that make a big difference

Nikolova, who splits her time between Saudi Arabia and the UK, says Muslim Travel Girl is now one of the largest Muslim-friendly blogs in the West. She works on it full-time and also offers consultancy services to hotels and resorts on how to be more accommodating to Muslim guests. Even simple changes like providing soft drinks, non-alcoholic wine or fresh fruit in a welcome package, instead of wine, which is customary in places like Greece, can make a big difference in making someone feel more comfortable, she says.

“It's important to feel safe when you travel and that your needs as a Muslim traveler are taken care of. This is why I'm passionate about…working with hotels in the industry to provide more facilities and more knowledge for Muslims,” she said. “Every destination should be Muslim friendly.”

Having converted to Islam as an adult, Nikolova says she is able to identify with both non-Muslims and Muslims, and that sense of empathy helped in the initial stages of writing Muslim Travel Girl. She says her expertise hasn’t been questioned because she converted to the religion, instead of being born into it, though she can understand that point of view.

“When you are writing about something that is on a specific inclusivity, whether it's halal travel or whether it is accessibility travel, you have to have a basic understanding and principles in order to be accurate in your writing,” she said. “For me, I'm a Muslim, I'm a travel expert, and I have that knowledge because I've worked and lived that life for the past 10 years.”

Travel opens your mindset

Part of why travel is so important, Nikolova says, is because it can counter misconceptions and prejudice. When she converted to Islam, for instance, her Greek Orthodox parents were not happy about it. But after she and her mother traveled to numerous countries together, including her mother spending a year in Doha, Qatar when Nikolova’s daughter was born, things changed.

“It's one of the reasons why I'm so passionate about traveling and encouraging Muslims to travel, because you open your mindset,” Nikolova said. “Traveling brings us closer. You wouldn't know your neighbor if you didn’t talk to them. It's the same thing with going and exploring a different city; you wouldn't meet locals and talk to them if you didn't visit.”

30 Muslim Influencers Are Setting The Bar High

Why Do Brands Need a Muslim Influencer?

When to Use Muslim Influencers

Here’s how brands can best use Muslim influencers:

Travel Companies to Promote Islamic Trips

Muslims take trips to Islamic sites in Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. Travel companies can make plans targeting Muslim travelers as they are usually heavy spenders and can help boost your revenue. Working with Muslim travel influencers can be a great way to tap into this market.

Hajj, one of the largest gatherings of Muslims in the world, attracts millions of people from around the world.

The Tour Groups Empowering Muslim Women Travelers—and Fostering Community

By Sarah Shaffi

Image may contain Adult Person Accessories Bag Handbag Boat Transportation Vehicle and Landmark

For many practicing Muslim women, finding the right hotel and booking excursions is just one part of planning a vacation. There’s also the search for halal or vegetarian restaurants, pinning mosques with a women’s prayer space to Google Maps, and researching whether a destination is safe for them not just as women, but oftentimes as visibly Muslim women if they wear a hijab or niqab, or want to don a burkini.

For years, Muslim women wanting to travel have done this all themselves, without the help of travel and tour companies that cater to their non-Muslim peers. That despite there being a huge demand: According to the Mastercard-Crescentrating Global Muslim Travel Index 2023 , Muslim women “make up a substantial portion of the global Muslim travel market,” citing a growing trend for “solo and women group travel” in particular.

“Muslim women are looking to travel with a group of like-minded women where they can feel catered to in terms of having time to pray, eat halal food, feel comfortable wearing hijab if they do, and visit local mosques when traveling,” says Ellie Quinn Belhaj, a travel blogger based in Manchester, England.

But while some Muslim women may have additional requirements while on vacation, notes Belhaj, they are also after all the same things as other travelers: “Muslim women want to hike, dive, and explore cities like everyone else.”

In recent years, a number of independent travel companies founded by Muslim women have sprung up to fill this gap in the market, all seeking to make travel easier—especially for those who grew up in cultures where women traveling alone may not be the norm or might not have the confidence to start off solo immediately. Tour operator The Muslim Women’s Travel Group offers exciting trips while also making sure religious needs don’t have to be cast aside. Founder Sadia Ramzan says she wants to “enable women to explore the world safely [while] respecting their beliefs and values.”

Later this year The Muslim Women’s Travel Group will head to Japan, where temples, a kimono-dressing and dance experience, and a tea ceremony are on the itinerary. Another trip planner, Sisters Getaway , offers retreats complete with yoga and creative writing sessions that are interspersed with excursions. Muslim hiking and adventure group The Wanderlust Women ’s summer 2024 Pakistan trip will include seeing the Batura Glacier and a community day in the mountains. In Uzbekistan later this year, tour operator Halal Travel Guide has programmed activities including Islamic calligraphy and walking tours.

Regardless of what the itinerary may have in store, travelers pause what they’re doing five times a day so whoever wants to can pray. They don’t have to worry about accidentally eating non-halal food, either, or navigating experiences centered around alcohol. Still, these trips are not “religious retreats,” says Sisters Getaway founder Abdiya Meddings, although religion does permeate the ethos these companies operate by. Halal Travel Guide founder Soumaya T. Hamdi uses the term “halal tourism” to describe what her company does—halal refers to the food Muslims can eat, but is widely used as an adjective to mean “permissible” when it comes to Islam.

Hamdi says the culture of halal is “also about being fair, conducting business in a way that is responsible, that takes into account the local people, the local destination, and the impact that our visits have on the destination.” Principles that should be applied to all scopes of travel. Ramzan is also focused on responsible tourism, and likes to use women-owned companies and women guides where possible, supporting women like her who have set up their own businesses.

Most of these groups attract travelers based in the UK, North America and Europe, with a small number of customers coming from further afield, including the Middle East and even Australia. But core to all of them is enabling travelers to feel connected to each other, the places they visit, and even their own histories. Depending on the destination, Halal Travel Guide also helps travelers learn stories about their Islamic heritage . “We connect people with their Islamic heritage because a lot of us are very disconnected from our stories,” says Hamdi. “What shapes your identity more than the stories that you listen to?” Folk tales and history are not easily found in books published in the West, TV shows that are aired, or even in school curriculums.

“We've been working really hard to share these stories about figures from Islamic history, about countries that have fantastic Islamic heritage,” says Hamdi. During Halal Travel Guide’s Jordan trip, for example, the itinerary includes a day at Al-Salt outside of Amman, an ancient city where a number of Islamic prophets are believed to have once lived, worked, or passed away; the day trip includes visiting burial grounds and hearing more about the lives and stories of these prophets.

In other cases, the focus on fostering community stems from the companies’ origin stories: Sisters Getaway started life with Meddings wondering how other Muslim women found people they related to, particularly if they recently converted to Islam and felt they didn’t fit into already established Muslim spaces like mosques. The Muslim Women’s Travel Group began on Facebook when Ramzan had questions about traveling alone after years of doing so with her five sisters, and didn’t find the community she was looking for.

Meddings’ first Granada retreat sold out in three days and 27 retreats later, the company is her full-time job. A big part of its success, she says, is that it appeals to “a lot of women who find themselves at a time in their lives where their friends are in completely different stages and they [are] alone for various reasons. Making friends in your twenties, thirties, forties, sixties, [is] not as easy as at school or university.”

Hamdi, meanwhile, says Halal Travel Guide attracts a lot of people in their 30s who are unmarried, don’t have children, and are “very successful, have money to spend, and want to invest in themselves by meeting new people, going on unforgettable trips, and sharing those trips with other people.”

article image

Of course, all the women that go on these trips carry stories back with them, as well as friendships. Ramzan, Meddings and Hamdi have all had women bonding on their trips and going on to book vacations of their own together—or returning to their companies as a group.

But it’s the diversity of women the companies host that allows travelers to feel welcome, whatever their background. Attendees of Meddings’ retreats have included three generations of women from the same family, a widow who hadn’t traveled since her husband had passed away, and non-Muslim women who are simply searching for a women-only space in which to relax. The Muslim Women’s Travel Group’s oldest guest was 74, and the group has had “the burkini babes laying next to the bikini babes” on its trips, says Ramzan.

For Muslim women, being accepted for who they are, with no expectations and no stereotypes, is freeing. Says Meddings: “Everyone can come exactly how they are. Hijab, no hijab, praying, not praying, it doesn’t matter [to] us. Everybody is welcome. And I feel like that really speaks to a lot of people.”

8 Muslim Influencers You Should Be Following Right Now

August 8, 2022

muslim travel influencer

From travel to health tips, Muslim influencers have taken the world by a storm. Although everyone's heard of the likes of many fashion and beauty influencers like Dina Tokio or Huda Kattan, other categories have gone a bit under the radar. There are so many brilliant Muslim storytellers in the online sphere which we wanted to shine a light on!

Nadir Nahdi

Born and brought up in London, Nadir's creativity has really taken off in 2019. His breakout documentary 'Finding Nenek' explores issues of identity, culture and family as he goes on a journey to find out who his Grandmother was and essentially where he comes from. As a captivating storyteller, Nadir helps bring to light the issues around not knowing our roots which a lot of us have faced at some point.

Looking for your soulmate?

You won’t find your soulmate on this blog post but you might find them on Muzz - the world’s biggest Muslim dating and marriage app.

I'm not Western enough to be Western, Eastern enough to be Eastern. I grew up yearning for a sense of belonging, searching for somewhere to feel home.

Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan

As a true disrupter, Suhaiymah (also known as The Brown Hijabi ) isn't afraid to call out the islamaphobia and racism that is still present in our society. After graduating from Cambridge, Suhaiymah regularly writes and speaks about topics ranging from Islamophobia, racism, feminism and poetry. Her work has been featured in the likes of Al Jazeera, ITV and the Islam Channel; her most recent accomplishment is the launch of her debut poetry collection 'Postcolonial Banter' which is available this month! She's dedicated, fierce and nothing's going to stop her from standing up for what she believes in ♥️

Halima Aden

No doubt, Halima Aden is the most influential on this influencer list, but she's arguably also one of the most inspiring. Born to Somali parents, Halima was brought up in a Kenyan refugee camp until the age of six after the family home in Somalia was tragically burned down. After settling in Minnesota in the US, Halima was the first to do many things... The first Somali American to be crowned homecoming queen in her high school. The first woman to wear a hijab in a US beauty pageant. The first woman to wear a headscarf and burkini on the swimsuit cover of Sports Illustrated. As a woman and a Muslim she's breaking down barriers wherever she goes, meaning she's definitely one to watch.

That's the thing, the stereotype is that Muslims want to come to this country and they want to change the rules, they want to change everything. That's the opposite of what I want. I just want to participate.

@BeardedPashtun

Currently at 4414 followers on Instagram, Fahd, the man behind @beardedpashtun is growing rapidly. Aside from an epic handle name, Fahd's aim is to ultimately 'create posts that start conversations exploring potential solutions for issues that we face as young Muslims living in the West'. He's taken this initiative to the real world as well with monthly gatherings in Birmingham where young Muslims can freely talk and build a community that many of us yearn for.

Don’t learn about Christianity from the Imam and Islam from the priest. Be fair and just.

Singapore born Aida Azlin has grown a solid community of Muslim women over the years through her beautiful love letters every Tuesday where she discusses topical issues, her thoughts and reflections of today's society. With 100s of testimonials for her letters on her website, it's clear that she connects with others on a seriously deeper level; such as one woman professing "I want to read Aida's letters over & over as it reminds me of who I am. I’m Allah’s."

Aïcha Sebaa

As a board licensed acupuncturist and clinical herbalist, Aïcha helps women in all phases of their life starting from acne issues as a teenager to menopausal conditions when women get older. Aïcha's childhood love of nature led her to a career in natural and East Asian medicine as she believes that the human body is self healing and capable of much more than we tend to give credit to. Follow along on her social media as she instills her knowledge of all things health and wellness.

Despite the challenges that we all go through, fortunately, the human body is brilliant and has its own resilient self healing capacity that we just need to recognize and tap into.

Elena Nikolova

Ever wanted to find out how to do Ummrah for a lower price, or find more Muslim friendly travel destinations? Elena Nikolova is the answer to your questions. Her travel blog has grown to become the largest website covering Muslim and Halal travel. As seen in the likes of BBC, Islam Channel, Business Traveller Middle East, Thomson Reuters and others, she's definitely making her mark. She's even written a book all about travel hacks on how to make your Ummrah experience under £300 if you really want!

We end our fabulous list of influential Muslims on a light hearted note because Abdul Aziz aka Bin Baz is probably the funniest guy in the Middle East. He's best known for his short few second videos about his everyday life in Dubai. Whether he's pranking his friends or teaching Logan Paul Arab traditions , he's always having a laugh and will definitely make you smile.

There Is a Muslim Way to Travel and It’s Not What You Think

' src=

What do you think of when you hear the words ‘Muslim travel’? Do pilgrims clad in white robes and black abayas circling the Holy Kaaba come to mind? Do images of juicy lamb shawarmas and tandoori chicken make your mouth water? Do you picture your favorite hijabi influencer modeling a trendy outfit in the desert for the latest #VisitDubai Instagram ad?

These days, we often equate Muslim travel to one of two extremes: a deep religious obligation to perform Hajj and Umrah, or a surface-level focus on finding halal places to eat and rocking modest fashion in exotic locations.

Spoiler alert: It’s more than that.

The Mainstream Narrative on Muslim Travel is Missing Something Big

Browse the channels of mainstream Muslim travel bloggers, and you’ll see that the majority of content is about:

  • How to prepare and save for a religious pilgrimage
  • Top halal hotels and restaurant recommendations
  • How to slay your vacation wardrobe and style your hijab for different climates

Do you sense a theme?

The current narrative around Muslim travel is overly centered on the planning process showing Muslims how to take care of their physical needs (eating, packing, lodging, dressing, shopping) while abroad. Obviously, this is super useful information because it makes travel more accessible and comfortable for Muslim travelers.

But this narrative is also lacking something crucial.

Muslim travel encompasses more than just Hajj, halal food, and hijabi-friendly outfits — it should also be about traveling purposefully to fulfill our spiritual needs . Ironically, what’s missing from the general conversation about Muslim travel is the Muslim part.

Let’s fix that.

Putting the ‘Muslim’ Back Into Muslim Travel

As a Muslim blogger and avid traveler , I wholeheartedly believe that there is an Islamic way to travel. It involves being more mindful of Allah, our history, and our planet.

1. Remember Allah by Observing His Creation

muslim travel influencer

The first way to put the ‘Muslim’ back into Muslim travel is to take less selfies, in which the destination fades into the backdrop of another #OOTD post, and focus more on spirituality.

In the Quran [29:20], Allah gives us this guidance:

“Say [Oh Muhammad], Travel through the land and observe how He began creation.”

In this verse, we are directed to travel so that we may discover the wonders that Allah has placed in this world. The simple, but powerful, underlying philosophy is that seeing is believing. When you leave the man-made urban jungle and visit places of breathtaking natural beauty — like the islands of the Maldives  (see above) —  you are left in awe.

When you pause and pay attention to the diversity of life — from the human race to the flora and fauna — you are left fascinated by how it exists in perfect harmony. These things are a reminder that this world did not spring up out of nowhere; it was created by Al-Khaliq, the Creator. We can only appreciate the Artist if we spend time admiring His work.

So, lets travel to marvel at the mastery of our Maker, not solely to model in front of landmarks.

2. Learn About Islamic History

muslim travel influencer

The second way to travel Islamically is to learn about a country’s culture and history so we can be thankful for how far we’ve come and see how we’ve changed the world along the way.

In a hadith narrated by AbudDarda in Sunan Abi Dawud, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise.”

This hadith suggests that the pursuit of knowledge is a path to paradise. Traveling is one of the best ways to learn about our Islamic roots and heritage. If we understand the impact our Muslim brothers and sisters who came before us had on different parts of the world, we can better connect to our past. If we study the struggles previous generations of Muslims faced, we can develop a greater gratitude for their sacrifices. And if we examine the victories and achievements of our Muslims ancestors, we can surely find lessons and inspiration.

For example, did you know that the Grand Mosque of Paris  (see above) was built as a token of gratitude for the Muslim warriors who fought against Germany in World War I? During the second world war, this mosque provided shelter and safe passage to European and Algerian Jews to protect them from persecution by German Nazis who had occupied Paris.

Let’s travel to feed our brains, not just stuff our bellies with halal food.

3. Protect the Planet

muslim travel influencer

The third way to travel the Islamic way is to be eco-friendly, making an effort to preserve— not just photograph — the places we visit.

In a hadith narrated by Abu Sa’id Khudri in Sahih Muslim, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

“The world is sweet and green (alluring) and verily Allah is going to install you as vicegerent in it in order to see how you act.”

There are many Quranic verses and Prophetic sayings that emphasize our responsibility to take care of our planet. Allah has made us stewards and guardians of the good green Earth. Therefore we must travel through it gently, limiting waste and overconsumption, and minimizing our environmental footprint. For instance, the Algarve region of Portugal  (see above) is home to some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches. When you travel there, you can support sustainability initiatives by visiting beaches that are accredited with the environmentally-friendly Blue Flag label.

This God-given responsibility of protecting our planet extends to animals too. When you travel, don’t participate in touristy things that perpetuate animal cruelty, like the owl cafes of Japan .

Let’s be examples of ethical, not egotistical, travelers.

Elevating the Conversation Around Muslim Travel

The content around Muslim travel has become ‘itineraries and look-books from Muslims who travel’. We’ve forgotten that traveling is as much a means of deepening our connection to Allah, each other, and the Earth, as it is a vacation from our day-to-day stresses.

I want to elevate the conversation around Muslim travel and inspire you to travel more fully. For me, traveling has become an integral part of strengthening my faith. If you want to join me on this journey, you can follow my adventures at annum-munir.com . I blog about the places I’ve been, what I’ve learned, share tips and reflections from each experience…and I also include info about halal food and some cute outfits too.

But my first and foremost focus is on being a mindful Muslim traveler.

A collage of screenshots, from various Muslim TikTok content creators, engaging in all sorts of different styles of content creation. In one video, the creator is dressed in a banana suit; in another, the creator is answering a question about cosplay; in another, it appears to be a cooking tutorial. The screenshots are overlapping, with various degrees of opacity, giving the feeling of rich, diverse array of content.

The New Faces of Being Visibly Muslim Online

by Anmol Irfan

How social media influencers are challenging stereotypes both within and outside of Muslim communities—just by being themselves.

In this very digital age, I wouldn’t describe myself as much of a social media person. Despite my active Twitter presence, which I attribute to work, and the occasional procrastination scroll on Instagram, which always ends up longer than expected, I’ve just never really found much joy in it. Even back when most people dreamed of becoming bloggers, I never saw the appeal: I couldn’t relate to their desire to share their lives so publicly, and felt a disconnect with their content as a result.

Then, around January last year, I discovered With Love, Leena . The account follows the day to day life of Texas-based content creator Leena Snoubar, covering everything from fashion to parenting to all things lifestyle. In one video, she gives a tutorial on how she removes makeup stains from her hijabs. In another, she shares an intimate day out with her mother and sisters, where they grab brunch and go wedding dress shopping for her youngest sister. Scrolling through her account, I found myself feeling—for the first time—like I was actually getting something out of my Instagram experience: I’d never come across a Muslim influencer who was so visibly Muslim and yet didn’t feel the need to justify or be bound by their religion.

It was only when I came across Leena that I realized my feelings of disconnect on social media had less to do with the platforms themselves, and more to do with the kind of content I was seeing. Maybe it was the algorithm or just my lack of social media engagement, but I was almost exclusively served either general fashion and beauty content—which I assumed was because of my gender—or Islamic videos, with little in between. It made me feel alienated in terms of my other interests, and like I had to separate my religious identity from the rest of me, or else somehow justify their intermingling.

For a lot of young Muslims, being online as a visibly Muslim person creates a pressure to either always be preaching Islamic content or advocating for our religious identity. When I first started out as a journalist, I often felt a heavy responsibility to justify my identity, and to prove, somehow, that Muslim women were not limited to the stereotypes projected onto us. But constantly having to justify my identity also meant constant emotional labor, and as I quickly learned, this only ever led to burnout. It’s a pressure that content creator Maliha —who says she’s been an “internet girlie” since before influencers became popular—is very familiar with. “I started out with my YouTube channel, and then Instagram, and because a lot of my content was cosplay I became the ‘hijabi cosplayer,’” she says. “But I’m not very good with having a niche, and when I moved to TikTok, I started making content that I connected to more, mostly rants and healing—social justice-y stuff.” Despite pivoting directions with her content, though, she soon found that her audience hadn’t changed or expanded at all: Maliha says that even though her content wasn’t Islamic, TikTok’s algorithm was almost exclusively showing her videos to other Muslim users.

This sort of systemic stereotyping, that comes from both outside and within Muslim communities, is exactly what some influencers like Leena and Maliha are challenging with their diverse content. Despite living continents apart, I immediately felt a connection to Maliha—one that came from so many shared experiences, not just as Muslims, but also as young women. She’s just an average twenty-something, sharing her everyday thoughts, laced with a little humor and, often, a lot of sarcasm. I’m not the only one who has felt a connection to her work, either: Maliha says that her role as a content creator has helped her make friends across the globe.

For 20-year-old Younis AlZubeiri , this sense of community has played a big role in his own content creating journey. “My overarching goal with my content was to also be that outlet for other Muslims on the internet that didn’t really have someone to look to online,” he says. “In the world of Andrew Tates and [other] horrible role models to young kids, especially Muslims, I tried to just be a source of good to them.” He first started creating content at 14, making videos about comics just for himself. But slowly, his focus started shifting. “When I had followers who looked like me tell me about my impact on them, there was a light that switched,” he shares. Now, he has over 100,000 followers on TikTok, where he shares videos exploring culture and entertainment and diversity within both.

Along with creating spaces of acceptance for Muslims from all walks of life, many of these influencers are also challenging what it means to be visibly Muslim in 2023. This means fighting stereotypes offline, too: Amira Rahmat , a food and travel blogger, often embarks on solo trips and says she’s always met with surprise when people see a young Muslim woman traveling alone. “When I post content on my page, a lot of the comments I see are, ‘Oh, you’re so brave to travel alone,’” Amira shares. But likewise, she says many of her commenters are inspired by her videos: For many Muslim women, who have to fight back stereotypes that Muslim women’s pardah or religious restrictions keep them confined to their homes, seeing women like Amira and being able to share in her experiences has become a crucial part of shaping their confidence and self reflection.

It may seem like these are just a bunch of random creators covering various topics, but that’s the point. In this age of growing Islamophobia, they’ve begun to play a very important role in humanizing all of us beyond our hijabs and beards and masjids. They’re creating their own spaces, where being Muslim doesn’t impact or influence all the other parts of themselves. This is just as pivotal within our community as it is outside of it: Muslims who find themself stuck between proving themselves to other Muslims and justifying themselves to non-Muslims seeing creators just being honest and unapologetic about whatever topic they’d like can give us a lot of strength on the days we most need it. “It’s such a fine line to be a Muslim artist in any capacity,” says Dubai based content creator Emad . Whether or not you talk about religion, he continues, you’ll be judged by Muslim and non-Muslim creators alike, and pigeonholed by both. “For someone like me, I wanted to get into Muslim content because it’s fun. [But] so many times it happens that you become a ‘Muslim creator’ and then you do a fun TikTok dance and suddenly you’re not a Muslim creator because you’ve apparently done something wrong.”

This isn’t always easy. But when the polarized opinions and criticism become too much, Younis says that humor helps—especially when met with harmful alt-right and other extremist narratives. “I can’t just post about being a leftist and expect them to change,” he says. “You have to go about it in another light and try to convey the point you’re trying to make through humor.” These are baby steps, he adds, but making viewers laugh can challenge pre-existing notions that all Muslims are the same and that they don’t exist outside of a one-dimensional identity.

These small steps go a long way, and are already making a difference for creators (and viewers) around the world. Pakistan-based food blogger Emon Malik says the content creator economy has been growing in her country, and credits that to the growing diversity of creators. And the number of Muslim content creators is only growing.

“With more [diverse] content creation, people are more informed,” Amira says. “It comes from personal experiences, not Google, and it’s more raw and authentic.” It’s also more relatable—and for me, inspiring. When I see content creators like Leena or Maliha or Amira, it gives me the push I need to be more unapologetically myself. As these content creators have shown me, I’m more than my religious identity, but I don’t have to hide it away, either.

And, I hope the first of many more companies using unconventional models to represent their brands. Because representation matters. Periodt. We need to see ourselves in ads! Straight size white and racially ambiguous girls aren’t the only folks we want to see living their best lives. Other👏🏾forms👏🏾of👏🏾beauty👏🏾exist👏🏾 Yesterday, I was on YouTube and saw a commercial ad pop up with me in it. “That’s you right there,” I told myself. “You are the only fat, Black and visibly Muslim girl in ads right now.” Can you believe it? I’m still in awe that I’ve gotten to work with national and international brands. With all of my clothes on. With my hijab. With my loudness on the inanets 🤣 I get to be me still. It’s funny because I went on a casting for Sephora and Bobbi Brown and didn’t land either one. Usually, I’d be mad. Wonder what’s wrong me? Am I not good enough? Wonder what’s wrong with the higher ups. Why wouldn’t they want to be ahead of the curve of inclusivity? It’s ok, because I’m going to land a huge makeup campaign. I’m going to be on somebody’s billboard in Times Square, maybe even abroad. In the meantime, I’m going to practice patience and manifesting. Also while in LA, I’ll be doing a much needed mental reset. I plan on eating good food, visiting bookstores, doing new things. I’ll also be—for the first time—hiking 😅 Even though my knees have been acting up, I want to challenge myself. And, I’m going tooooo DISNEYLAND, too!!! How to find the right influencers for your halal brand.

muslim travel influencer

Why Your Halal Brand Needs Influencers

According to Influencer Marketing Hub, influencer marketing is getting broader each day,

“…new influencer categories like financial influencers (finfluencers), skincare influencers (skinfluencers), and pet influencers (petfluencers) are emerging.”

“…influencers begin to venture into other categories outside their original niche. For instance, beauty influencers have also covered other areas of interest, like travel, food, and fitness.”

So, why is this a good thing? Well, if you are targeting Muslim customers, there is a chance you have a niche product and may feel that there are not enough influencers that match what you are selling or offering as a service. Knowing about this trend changes everything for you.

In the same article, “ Key Influencer Marketing Statistics You Need to Know for 2022 ” Jacinda Santora of Influencer Marketing Hub explains that:

“60% of marketers shared that influencer-generated content performs better and drives more engagement compared to branded posts”. She adds that by 2023 “influencer marketing expenditure is projected to reach $4.6 billion in the US alone.”

The Problem with Finding Influencers

Although you already know that influencer marketing is a big thing, what many marketers and business owners struggle with is finding the right type of influencer.

No one explains this issue better than Neal Schaffer:

“On the surface, influencer marketing seems simple enough. Find an online influencer, pay them some money, and watch them drive new faces to your product. The truth is that not just anybody can sell your product. You could back the Brinks truck into LeBron James’s driveway and offer him the world to push your product to his 40.7 million Instagram followers. But if it’s not something his followers would be interested in, it’s a massive waste of money.” You can read more about this in his article, “ 7 Tips and 12 Tools to Find Influencers for Your Brand ”.

Know Which Type of Influencers You are Looking For

Size matters when it comes to choosing the right influencer but not how one might expect. You need to know where to find the right balance between influencer follower size and engagement for your halal business.

Influencer Type by Size

Mega-influencers – 1 million+ followers.

Mega-influencers have a large following and a great reach on social media thanks to their A-list celebrity status. However, they will offer you very low engagement. Studies have found that the rate of engagement decreases as the influencer’s total follower count rises .

Macro-influencers – 50K to 500K followers

B-list celebrities  (actors, athletes, etc. who are not at the very top) or even C-list (famous for being famous, reality show stars, etc.) can leverage their reputation to help you gain followers. These can also be thought leaders with professional-style content. They have a very high price tag and may give your halal brand engagement that is just slightly better than that of mega-influencers.

Mid-tier Influencers – 50K to 500K followers

These are a powerful group of content creators who enjoy being trusted by their followers. You will get a wide reach and more engagement than with the first two categories. They have spent years getting to where they are with their audiences and are very experienced in delivering the right content.

Micro-influencers – 10K to 50K followers

This category of influencers is probably the most suited for your small or medium-sized halal business. Micro-influencers are more niche-focused and have established an intimate connection with their followers. Lesley Vos, for the Association of National Advertisers, mentioned that 82% of consumers buy products recommended by micro-influencers .

Nano-influencers – 1K to 10K followers

We would recommend nano-influencers if you are looking for strategic partners to grow together. Nano-influencers usually have a modest reach which is narrowed down to a certain niche. If your brand is in its infancy or has limited resources, nano-influencers offer an affordable alternative. However, the relationships you build over the years are priceless.

Influencer Type by Occupation

This is not an exhaustive list; also, remember what we said about new influencer categories popping up every day and how influencers are starting to explore possibilities outside their niche. We will also skip the obvious types of influencers like beauty, fashion, and travel to show you how broad the possibilities are.

Gamers who live stream their games on platforms like Twitch or YouTube can garner millions of followers who are interested in learning more about gaming or improving their own gameplay.

Meet Yusha Eans:

Instagram mid-tire influencer with 97.7k followers and YouTube micro-influencer with 26.1k followers.

Photographers

The biggest camera companies tend to partner with the photography influencers in the mega-through micro-influencer categories to promote their cameras, lenses, and other accessories. They are among the best content creators in the industry.

Meet Amir Ahmadpour:

Instagram micro-influencer with 36.4k followers.

Amir Ahmadpour photography

A parenting influencer provides tips and tricks for new parents, reviews products, and shares their own failures and successes as parents. A wide range of products can be promoted by parenting influencers.

Meet Zuliat Lawal:

Instagram micro-influencer with 22.4k followers and a nano-influencer on YouTube with 1.54k followers.

Niche Sports

Niche sports influencers like skateboarders, arm wrestlers, free runners, and the likes, garner a lot of attention and followers. For Muslim audiences, being represented in these niches yet popular activities is really “awesome”! As a Muslim brand, it would be ideal to partner with such influencers.

Meet Ali Nasuh Mahruki:

Muslim mountain climber and macro-influencer on Twitter and Instagram with 304.9k and 343k followers respectively.

Fake Influencers

These fake accounts pay for more followers and engagement so they look like they’re influential. Some of them are easy to spot, but others require a bit more discernment.

Remember to take a close look at the following to spot any suspicious characteristics:

  • Engagement rate
  • Quality of comments
  • Engagement with audiences
  • Quality of followers
  • Who they’re following

How to Find Muslim Influencers for Your Brand

Where to look.

Hashtags: Find trending hashtags relevant to your brand and reach out to influencers using them via Instagram direct message.

Influencer Marketing Platforms: Muslim influencer marketing platforms like M.I.N allow you to explore Muslim influencers in specified niches.

Social Media: Search for specific niche influencers in the search bar such as “Fashion Influencer,” or “Tech Influencer,” which can help you find influencers for your halal brand.

Google: Google search is a vital tool for finding the right influencers, you can even come across ready-made lists of influencers in particular industries. Try searching ‘Best Muslim Fashion influencers,’ for example and there will be sites that have already created a list of them for you.

What to Look For

Meaningful Content: Look beyond follower size, and research the actual content an influencer is sharing. Check out the feeds of each influencer to see the kinds of messages they send and the causes they support.

Authority : Examine their level of familiarity and authority with the topics your brand cares about . Is their expertise apparent in their comments on the topics that matter most to your industry?

Relevant Engagement: An influencer may have a very high engagement for certain types of content they put out. However, look for content that is relevant to your brand, and if those types of posts get high engagement too.

Audience Overlap: You really need to examine the audience that the influencer engages with. There should be proper overlap and similarities between your brand’s audience and theirs. Otherwise, it won’t be of any use when it comes to creating awareness or generating demand for your product.

What to Do Next

Get Noticed: Engage with Muslim influencers on social media platforms. Comment on their posts, share their content and acknowledge their work. By doing so, you will attract their attention. Then you will be able to approach these influencers more effectively.

Approach: Now that you’ve got the influencer’s attention, send them a proposal that will earn them your business. The basic things to mention are:

  • About you and how you got to know them
  • The reason for reaching out
  • The win-win opportunity you are offering
  • The next steps they can take if they are onboard

Follow Up: Considering the high volume of messages influencers receive, your email may pass unnoticed. If you don’t hear from them after a few days, send a follow-up email. Send at least a few follow-up emails before moving on. Don’t forget to nurture your influencer relationships after your collaboration ends. It is just as important to manage your relationships with influencers, as it will benefit you in the long run.

As you can see from the article, getting the right type of influencers for your business is not a straightforward thing. Being a halal business or brand adds an extra layer of complication. However, considering that not many halal businesses and brands in your niche are currently doing influencer marketing with proper due diligence, you may see this as an opportunity.

What We Know About ISIS-K, the Group That Has Been Linked to the Moscow Attack

The Islamic State affiliate has been a major threat to the Taliban’s ability to govern Afghanistan.

  • Share full article

muslim travel influencer

By Eric Schmitt

  • Published March 22, 2024 Updated March 24, 2024

The group that has been linked to the deadly terrorist attack in Moscow on Friday is the Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan called Islamic State Khorasan Province, or ISIS-K.

ISIS-K was founded in 2015 by disaffected members of the Pakistani Taliban, who then embraced a more violent version of Islam. The group saw its ranks cut roughly in half, to about 1,500 to 2,000 fighters, by 2021 from a combination of American airstrikes and Afghan commando raids that killed many of its leaders.

The group got a dramatic second wind soon after the Taliban toppled the Afghan government that year. During the U.S. military withdrawal from the country, ISIS-K carried out a suicide bombing at the international airport in Kabul in August 2021 that killed 13 U.S. troops and as many as 170 civilians.

The attack raised ISIS-K’s international profile, positioning it as a major threat to the Taliban’s ability to govern.

Since then, the Taliban have been fighting pitched battles against ISIS-K in Afghanistan. So far, the Taliban’s security services have prevented the group from seizing territory or recruiting large numbers of former Taliban fighters bored in peacetime — among the worst-case scenarios laid out after Afghanistan’s Western-backed government collapsed.

President Biden and his top commanders have said the United States would carry out “over-the-horizon” strikes from a base in the Persian Gulf against ISIS and Qaeda insurgents who threaten the United States and its interests overseas.

Indeed, Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, the head of the military’s Central Command, told a House committee on Thursday that ISIS-K “retains the capability and the will to attack U.S. and Western interests abroad in as little as six months with little to no warning.”

ISIS is clearly seeking to project its external operations well beyond its home turf. Counterterrorism officials in Europe say that in recent months they have snuffed out several nascent ISIS-K plots to attack targets there.

In a post on its official Telegram account in January, ISIS-K said it was behind a bombing attack that killed 84 people in Kerman, Iran, during a memorial procession for Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani , a revered Iranian commander who was killed in an American drone strike in 2020.

ISIS-K, which has repeatedly threatened Iran over what it says is its polytheism and apostasy, has claimed responsibility for several previous attacks there.

Now, the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the concert hall attack in Moscow, and U.S. officials connected it specifically to ISIS-K.

“ISIS-K has been fixated on Russia for the past two years” and frequently criticizes President Vladimir V. Putin in its propaganda, said Colin P. Clarke, a counterterrorism analyst at the Soufan Group, a security consulting firm based in New York. “ISIS-K accuses the Kremlin of having Muslim blood in its hands, referencing Moscow’s interventions in Afghanistan, Chechnya and Syria.”

Eric Schmitt is a national security correspondent for The Times, focusing on U.S. military affairs and counterterrorism issues overseas, topics he has reported on for more than three decades. More about Eric Schmitt

Moscow: Muslims request hijab friendly beaches, Jews and others agree

muslim travel influencer

By : http://rt.com/

Source : RT

The suggestion of the Muslim community to organize separate beaches for men and women has been supported by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, Jewish and Buddhist religions.

The request to the Moscow City Hall has been prepared and filed by Albir Krganov who is a deputy chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Russia and also a member of the Public Chamber’s Commission for Harmonization of Relations between Ethnic and Religious Groups.

The activist claimed that “ hundreds of thousands ” of religious residents of Moscow were deprived of ability to visit city beaches that are currently shared by men and women. “ As not everyone can afford a trip abroad, and we consider it necessary to open additional recreation zones for the residents of the capital city who cannot stay on common beaches for religious or moral reasons ,” Krganov wrote in his letter.

The activist added that countries like Israel, Turkey, and Germany have separate beaches for men and women and that the effect from this is positive. In the Russian Federation such beaches exist in the city of Kazan, the capital of predominantly Muslim republic of Tatarstan.

The letter was signed by the head of the Russian Orthodox Church’s department for relations with the society, Vsevolod Chaplin, President of the Association of Russian Jewish Communities Aleksey Boroda and representative of the Traditional Buddhist Community of Russia Andrey Balzhirov, Izvestia reported.

A member of the Public Chamber’s commission for family women and children, Sultan Khamzayev, said in comments with Izvestia daily that the initiative was necessary as it was in the interest of not only religion but also secular morals.

Vice President of the Russian Union of Tourist Industry, Yuri Barzykin also threw support behind the plan, saying that separate beaches could help members of all confessions find a comfortable place for themselves.

However, State Duma deputy Valery Rashkin (Communist Party) urged caution in putting the separate beaches project into reality. “ I am convinced that the society must not adjust itself in accordance with some religious or moral values of its separate members. There are dedicated places – like churches and mosques where people can unite in accordance with their ideas about the world and the rules of life. We should limit ourselves to these sites ,” Rashkin told Izvestia.

There is no precise data on the number of religious people in Moscow but last year the City Hall estimated that there were about 2 million migrant workers in the city – the overwhelming majority of which come from traditionally Muslim ex-Soviet Republics in Central Asia.

Last July a spokesman for Russia’s Council of Muftis urged Moscow authorities to build more mosques in the city, saying this would prevent the overcrowding of city streets on major holidays. This was not the first suggestion of this kind, but so far all such suggestions have been rejected.

In 2013, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin told reporters that the majority of mosque-goers were not permanent residents of the city and that migrants should go home once their working contracts expire. He added that the three existing mosques could very well serve the needs of the permanent residents of Moscow who adhere to Islam.
