Pilot Travel Centers to Add 35 Locations, Remodel 75 More Stores in 2024

The plan will bring the total of remodeled stores to almost 200.

March 06, 2024

Pilot Travel Centers LLC, North America’s largest travel center network, announced plans to add 35 travel centers and remodel more than 75 locations across the U.S. and Canada over the course of this year.

As part of the growth initiative, the company will build 10 new travel centers, adding over 500 truck parking spaces to the road, and integrate 25 existing dealer locations into its network, giving drivers access to more stops that are eligible for Pilot’s myRewards loyalty perks and other company programs. It will also add 30 maintenance and tire services shops to its travel centers through its partnership with Southern Tire Mart, totaling more than 85 locations.

“Expanding into new communities and enhancing our services remains a key part of our long-term strategy,” said Allison Cornish, senior vice president of store modernization and development at Pilot Travel Centers LLC, in a press release. “We continually evaluate our network with our guests’ needs in mind and are making significant investments in our travel centers to provide drivers an exceptional experience at every stop along their journey.”

That investment includes remodeling 75 locations this year as part of its three-year, $1 billion New Horizons initiative to remodel over 400 stores across North America, focusing on curb-to-counter makeovers with refreshed restrooms and showers, new kitchens, expanded food and beverage options and updated technology. After celebrating its 100 th store remodel in December , the 75 planned 2024 remodels will bring the company’s total to almost 200 updated stores since launching the initiative in 2022.

To celebrate its March remodels, Pilot is offering a one-time 25% discount on food and beverage purchases for rewards members at its recently updated locations in Warsaw, North Carolina; Sutton West Virginia; Tumwater, Washington; Lake Point, Utah; and Wichita Falls, Texas.

The 2024 growth plans follow 30 new locations that were added in 2023, when Pilot built 10 new locations and added 20 dealer locations to its network last year.

Pilot Travel Centers is the largest operator of travel centers in North America with over 750 locations under the Pilot and Flying J brands. In January, Pilot was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in an $11 billion deal.

Earlier this year, Love’s outlined its plans for 2024 .

Pilot Shares Plans to Add 35 Travel Centers, Remodel 75

By Kevin McIntyre | March 6, 2024

pilot travel centers on i 75

Pilot has announced its growth plans for 2024, which include 35 new sites and 75 remodels. It is also expanding its truck maintenance network of Southern Tire Mart at Pilot Flying J (STMP) shops.

The 2024 growth plan includes building 10 new travel centers to increase the company’s presence in several states, bringing additional services, amenities and over 500 truck parking spaces to the road. The company is also expected to add 25 dealer locations to its network.

“Expanding into new communities and enhancing our services remains a key part of our long-term strategy,” said Allison Cornish, senior vice president of store modernization and development at Pilot Travel Centers. “We continually evaluate our network with our guests’ needs in mind and are making significant investments in our travel centers to provide drivers an exceptional experience at every stop along their journey.”

Last year, the company opened 10 new travel centers and welcomed more than 20 dealer locations to its network. The new stores were located along major routes in key markets for travelers and professional drivers, including Yucca and Ash Fork, Ariz.; Colton and Rialto, Calif.; Gallup, N.M.; McCarran, Nev.; Edon, Ohio; Holladay, Tenn.; Odessa, Texas; and Wamsutter, Wyo.

New Horizons

As part of its New Horizons initiative, Pilot has plans to overhaul an additional 75 locations this year for a total of nearly 200 completed remodels since launching the program in 2022. These major enhancements include curb-to-counter makeovers with refreshed restrooms and showers, new kitchens, expanded food and beverage options and updated technology.

In December 2023, Pilot completed its 100th remodel through the $1 billion New Horizons initiative.

To commemorate the milestone, the company hosted events for professional drivers and community members at the recently overhauled Flying J travel center in Salt Lake City, Utah and at the newly rebuilt Pilot travel center in Greenfield, Ind.

“Reaching 100 remodeled locations since launching our New Horizons initiative is a proud milestone for our teams and a reflection of our commitment to enhance the travel experience for everyone on the road,” said Allison Cornish at the time of the milestone, senior vice president of store modernization at Pilot Travel Centers. “These upgrades are an investment in our teams, in our guests and in our communities, making our locations a great place to work and shop.”

In addition to expanding its travel center network, Pilot is looking to bring more top-of-the-line maintenance and tire services to its trucking customers through its partnership with Southern Tire Mart. Over the next year, the company plans to add more than 30 shops to its travel centers for a total of over 85 locations across the country.

Pilot’s Eventful 2024

Pilot came out hot this year with the announcement that the Haslam family sold its remaining 20% interest in the company to Warren Buffett-led Berkshire Hathaway .

The announcement came more than a week after the Haslam Family and Berkshire Hathaway settled a billion-dollar lawsuit over an accounting method that would allegedly depress the sale price of the family’s stake in Pilot Travel Centers.

“Pilot started with one gas station 65 years ago, and because of the dedicated and exceptional team members we have had throughout our history, it is now an industry leader,” said Jim Haslam II, founder of Pilot Travel Centers. “While this has certainly been an emotional decision for us, it is one we felt was right for our family at this time. We look forward to continuing to support our life-long home of Knoxville, Tenn., and to furthering our deep commitment and philanthropy throughout the region that we all love.”

“As a family business, it is humbling to think of all of the team members who have been a part of Pilot Flying J and we are beyond grateful for their commitment and contributions over the years,” added Jimmy Haslam, CEO and chairman of Pilot Corp. “We also have profound appreciation for all of the guests, professional drivers and trucking companies who have supported Pilot Flying J as they have been a key part of the evolution and growth of this dynamic industry over the last six decades. We will always consider the Pilot Flying J team as family, and we wish them success as they continue to develop the best travel center network in North America and keep America moving.”

Founded in 1958 and headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn., Pilot Travel Centers employs approximately 30,000 people. As the largest network of travel centers, the company has more than 870 Pilot, Flying J and One9 locations in 44 states and six Canadian provinces, serving an average of 1.3 million guests per day.

In addition to travel center services, Pilot offers trucking fleets a variety of solutions for fuel, credit, factoring, maintenance and rewards. The company operates the third largest fuel tanker fleet in North America and supplies approximately 14 billion gallons of fuel per year.

Pilot travel center in Greenfield, Indiana

Pilot Travel Centers plans to add 35 travel centers and remodel more than 75 locations in 2024 as it continues to prioritize strategic growth across its network, the Knoxville, Tennessee-based company said this week.

The growth is part of Pilot’s New Horizons initiative, which began in 2022. The 75 remodels will bring the total number to nearly 200 since launching the initiative, the company said.

These enhancements include curb-to-counter makeovers with refreshed restrooms and showers, new kitchens, expanded food and beverage options and updated technology.

Pilot, which recently became 100% owned by Berkshire Hathaway , also is expanding its truck maintenance network of Southern Tire Mart at Pilot Flying J shops.

The growth plan for 2024 includes building 10 new travel centers to boost the company’s presence in several states, bringing additional services, amenities and more than 500 truck parking spaces to the road. Pilot in 2023 opened 10 new travel centers and welcomed more than 20 dealer locations to its network. The new stores are along major routes in markets including Yucca and Ash Fork, Arizona; Colton and Rialto, California; Gallup, New Mexico; McCarran, Nevada; Edon, Ohio; Holladay, Tennessee; Odessa, Texas; and Wamsutter, Wyoming.

In addition to expanding its travel center network, Pilot is looking to bring more top-of-the-line maintenance and tire services to its trucking customers through its partnership with Southern Tire Mart. Over the next year, the company said it plans to add more than 30 shops to its travel centers for a total of over 85 locations nationwide.

Pilot Co. is the  largest operator of travel centers  in North America, with more than 750 locations across 44 states and six Canadian provinces, selling about 14 billion gallons of fuel a year and about $3 billion in food and merchandise.

Lots of gas pumps to choose from and they are easy to operate. The bathrooms are spacious and clean. There are plenty of handy travel items, drinks and food in the store. There's a Wendy's connected to the building, and I thought that was convenient.

Slowest. Pump. Ever. Just north of Atlanta on the only route from above TGE mountains. Do NOT come here.

Got to the pilot last night and all the reserves were taken which I had already reserved n paid for ours ....I went in and said something to the cashiers and the young very polite guy said someone was already out there kicking people out of spots which was very nice !! Now let's talk about the NO PARKING !! There is parking spots for a reason and when u have trucks parking wherever they want .... When u wake up n go to leave u can't ... u wake up early for a reason cause u have a time u have to get your load there n when u have 5 trucks parked around u .. u can't leave or get out of the parking spot n it's also unsafe with trucks parked scattered out everywhere and u try waking to or back from the store n these drivers that fly through the parking lot that think it's a race track ... makes it hard for them to see people walking again they make parking spots for a reason so with that being said they need to have security or someone to get people off of the property who don't want to park correctly!! The store was very cleaned the shower was cleaned ... very hot n humid in the shower room but least there wasn't shit all over the toilet or hair all over the walls n floor !! All the employees were very very nice n friendly!!! We will definitely stop by here again !!!

I'm a handicapped truck driver. I come in this store tonight to eat and take a shower. I go to park in the handicap parking but their is a black woman parked in it with no placard anywhere. I asked pilot to ask her to move. Yeah once again nothing. It's nice to know how valued a customer I really am.

Friendly employees, clean store and great prices. Need I say more? The gas station and convenience store is open 24 hours but there is also a Wendy's in side that stays open late but is not open 24 hrs. They have nice gift items ands snacks inside.

The customer service at the Wendy's was good but I got food poisoning from food I ordered on feb 22, 2022 and so did my best friend. I believe it was old oil. If driving down 75 south i will not.buy any food from this Wendy's.

This truck stop located at exit 56 off Interstate 75 is bigger than I thought. When I came by the first time I thought it was small. My second visit was during the day and I realized it's pretty big and can hold a lot of trucks. You can get donuts here but they need more icing on them for a better taste. Their cookies I really liked as they were big and tasted great. Their hot dogs are ok too. It's really a nice truck stop and convenience store that has a lot to offer including a Wendy's restaurant. Of course, you can get CB equipment here too such as antennas and CB accessories. You can get gas here out front and big trucks can get gas around back. I also saw what looked like truck shop in the back.

Pilot announces growth plans for 2024

March 6, 2024

A major chain of travel centers plans to add hundreds of truck parking spaces to U.S. highways in 2024.

On Tuesday, March 5, Pilot Travel Centers LLC announced its plans to build 10 new travel centers to “increase the company’s presence in several states.” The company said the additional locations will bring more than 500 new truck parking spaces.

In addition to these new travel centers, the company expects 25 dealer locations to join the network, which will give drivers access to more stops along their routes that are eligible for Pilot’s myRewards loyalty perks and other company programs.

“Expanding into new communities and enhancing our services remains a key part of our long-term strategy,” Allison Cornish, senior vice president of store modernization and development for Pilot, said in a statement . “We continually evaluate our network with our guests’ needs in mind and are making significant investments in our travel centers to provide drivers an exceptional experience at every stop along their journey.”

On top of adding to its total number of locations, the company plans to renovate about 75 stores as part of its $1 billion New Horizons initiative. Pilot said those upgrades include “curb-to-counter makeovers with refreshed restrooms and showers, new kitchens, expanded food and beverage options and updated technology.”

In an effort to “bring more top-of-the-line maintenance and tire services to its trucking customers,” the company said it will expand its partnership with Southern Tire Mart by adding 30 shops to its travel center locations. By the end of 2024, Pilot plans to operate over 85 Southern Tire Mart at Pilot Flying J Truck Care Centers locations across the country.

In 2023, the company opened 10 new travel center locations in the United States:

  • Colton, Calif.
  • Rialto, Calif.
  • Gallup, N.M.
  • McCarran, Nev.
  • Holladay, Tenn.

Pilot Travel Centers plans to remodel, expand truck maintenance network

' src=

Pilot Travel Centers announced plans to add 35 travel centers and remodel more than 75 locations across its U.S. network this year.

Its growth plan includes building 10 new travel centers to increase the company’s presence in several states in the U.S., adding more than 500 truck parking spaces, the company said in a release.

this is an image of Pilot Travel Centers' dining room

“Expanding into new communities and enhancing our services remains a key part of our long-term strategy,” said Allison Cornish, senior vice president of store modernization and development at Pilot Travel Centers.

“We continually evaluate our network with our guests’ needs in mind and are making significant investments in our travel centers to provide drivers an exceptional experience at every stop along their journey.”

Last year, the company opened 10 new travel centers and welcomed more than 20 dealer locations to its network.

Renovations

As part of its New Horizons initiative — an investment to renovate and build new stores with EV charging, contactless payments, and updated showers — the company plans to revamp an additional 75 locations this year. This would bring a total of nearly 200 completed remodels since launching the program in 2022.

The enhancements will include curb-to-counter makeovers with updated restrooms and showers, new kitchens, expanded food and beverage options and updated technology.

Pilot Travel Centers also wants to add maintenance and tire services for its trucking customers through its partnership with Southern Tire Mart.

A very good idea to add a t v room to any location that a repair center is being added so the driver can relax while waiting on the repair of the power unit or the trailer they should also look into some locations with some abilities to fix reefer units and computer issues.

Pilot saw 3 warnings before deadly plane crash on I-75 in Naples, NTSB report says

pilot travel centers on i 75

NAPLES, Fla. — A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board revealed what pilots experienced moments before the deadly plane crash earlier this month on I-75 in Naples.

The plane, a Bombardier Challenger 600 jet, was traveling on Feb. 9 from the Ohio State University Airport to Naples Municipal Airport when it made a failed emergency landing on the interstate at about 3:17 p.m.

The crash caused the plane to erupt in flames and smoke, killing both the pilot, 50-year-old Edward Murphy, and the co-pilot, 65-year-old Ian Hofmann.

The preliminary report revealed that the plane recorded three master warnings starting at 3:09 p.m., eight minutes before the crash.

The first warning read, "L ENGINE OIL PRESSURE," and the second, "R ENGINE OIL PRESSURE," indicating issues with both the left and right engines. The third warning simply read "ENGINE."

Just 27 seconds later, according to NTSB, the crew announced, “…lost both engines... emergency... making an emergency landing."

After the tower controller at Naples Municipal Airport cleared the plane to land, the crew replied, “We are cleared to land but we are not going to make the runway… ah… we have lost both engines.” This was the last transmission received from the crew.

Investigators learned from dashcam footage that the plane made a shallow left turn before leveling its wings and touching down, aligning with the traffic on southbound I-75.

"The airplane continued through the break-down lane and into the grass shoulder area before impacting a concrete sound barrier. The airplane was obscured by dust, fire, smoke, and debris until the video ended," the report reads.

RELATED: 2 people dead after plane crashes on southwest Florida interstate

That's when the cabin attendant successfully guided two passengers and herself through the baggage compartment door in the tail section of the airplane, NTSB investigators say. They suffered only minor injuries.

Both the pilot and co-pilot died.

pilot travel centers on i 75

According to NTSB, Murphy, the pilot, had accrued 10,525 total hours of flight experience, 2,808 of which were in the same make and model as the plane that crashed.

The report says Hofmann, the co-pilot, had accrued 24,618 total hours of flight experience, 138 of which were in the same type of airplane.

Investigators are continuing to examine the wreckage, including the engines, to determine the cause of the deadly crash. NTSB maintains that this information is preliminary and subject to change.

Today while in Biology class I was working on a new bomber design, a custom never seen bomber that I am christening the XB-60 "Moscow". The design will include six custom modeled jet engines based on the BUFF's engines. The fuselage will contain an extended B-29 fuselage with the RC turrets and an "radar guided" tail gunner. The nose will have the B-24 cockpit with the B-17 chin turret.
