V-8 Astro Van Swap

Astro Van V-8 swap is probably the easiest V-8 swap around: Stealth Conversions

The Astro Van V-8 swap is probably the easiest V-8 swap around. For example, there is plenty of room in front of the V-8 to run a clutch fan. The radiator and its position can remain stock. The transmission position remains stock. The driveshaft remains stock. The shift linkage remains stock. The "doghouse" over the engine remains stock. There is plenty of room around the engine so that a number of different exhaust manifolds can be used. About the only things that are not stock for this swap are the motor mounts. Stealth Conversions has designed appropriate mounts .

Easiest to remove the Astro Van engine/transmission/subframe assembly as a unit: Stealth Conversions

The easiest way to do the swap is to remove the Astro Van engine/transmission/subframe assembly as a unit. We have seen people remove the engine/transmission through the front of the van, but the engine nearly needs to be disassembled for this procedure. Follow the instructions in the factory service manual (available from Helm) for the removal procedure.

All-Wheel-Drive V-8 Swap

The 2WD Astro Van V8 mounts will not work with the All-Wheel Drive Astro Van. The All-Wheel-Drive Astro Van uses a Borg-Warner 4472 transfer case. It is a full-time four-wheel-drive transfer case that is also used in Oldsmobile Bravada, and in the All-Wheel-Drive S-10 Blazers. It was also used in the GMC Syclone and Typhoon Sport Trucks, which had 280 horsepower turbocharged and intercooled 4.3 V-6 engines. The transfer case will handle the power of 350 V-8. See our mounts .

The All-Wheel-Drive Astro Van uses the same front differential as a 4x4 S-10 Truck. To clear the front differential, the oil pan must be modified.

The simplest way to modify the pan is to use two 4.3 V6 4x4 oil pans and cut and splice them together to make it as long as a V8 pan as shown here.

More details about this swap are available in our conversion manual Chevrolet TPI/TBI Engine Swapping .

5 Best & Worst GMC Safari Years (We Checked)

' src=

The GMC Safari has had its ups and downs over the years, with various models providing standout features and performance.

Table of Contents

While some years of the Safari delivered reliable service, others faced challenges and attracted some criticism from drivers and experts alike.

This article aims to discuss the best and worst years of the GMC Safari, helping potential buyers make an informed decision when looking to purchase this versatile minivan.

The Best Year for GMC Safari

One of the standout years for the GMC Safari was 2003.

This model received positive reviews for its reliability and durability. Many owners reported putting well over 200,000 miles on the vehicle with minimal maintenance required.

The 2003 GMC Safari was available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, catering to different needs and preferences.

The 2003 Safari came with a 4.3L V6 engine, offering a good balance of power and fuel efficiency, which was especially impressive for its time. This engine was paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission that provided a smooth driving experience and responsive handling.

In terms of interior features, the 2003 GMC Safari provided ample space for passengers and cargo, as well as various seating configurations to suit different requirements. These features, along with the overall comfortable design, made it suitable for families and businesses alike.

Safety features were also a strong focus in the 2003 model year, with standard equipment such as 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, driver and passenger airbags, and daytime running lights. These safety enhancements provided added peace of mind for drivers and passengers on their journeys.

The 2nd Best Year

The 2001 GMC Safari deserves recognition as the second-best model year for this classic van. While it didn’t receive quite as many accolades as later years, this model still offers reliability and solid performance.

Shoppers can expect to find features such as:

  • A potent 4.3L V6 engine delivering 190 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque
  • A smooth-shifting 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive
  • A maximum tow rating of 5,800 pounds, allowing for versatile hauling capabilities

Despite a few minor drawbacks, the 2001 GMC Safari excelled in a number of areas. With more than respectable fuel economy, owners could expect to achieve up to 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway—a notable perk for those prioritizing efficiency.

Safety-wise, this model year showcased improvements over previous years. Although not considered exceptional, it scored better in crash tests compared to earlier models. Standard safety features included antilock brakes, and GM’s Passlock theft-deterrent system provided an added layer of protection.

One thing the 2001 Safari truly excelled in was cargo space. With a cavernous interior, owners could easily accommodate up to 170.4 cubic feet of luggage, making the van a top choice for families or those embarking on long road trips.

While not as highly praised as newer models, this particular year remains a noteworthy option and good value for used car shoppers looking for reliability and performance to boot.

Other Good Years

As we dive into the GMC Safari’s history, let’s take a look at some other good years for this popular van.

Here’s a list of additional standout years, with brief explanations as to what made them great:

  • 2004 GMC Safari : This model year continued to offer the reliable 4.3-liter V6 engine, and it maintained a strong reputation for durability and dependability. Additionally, the 2004 Safari featured comfortable seating and ample cargo space, providing a versatile option for both families and businesses.
  • 2005 GMC Safari : As the final production year for the Safari, the 2005 model continued to deliver on the strengths of its predecessors. With its trusty V6 engine and spacious interior, this model remained a practical choice for those in search of a reliable van.

These GMC Safari model years were known for their solid performance and dependability, ensuring that they remain an excellent choice for anyone considering a robust and versatile vehicle.

Problematic Year for GMC Safari

The 1996 GMC Safari, while generally a reliable vehicle, has been associated with certain common issues that potential owners or current owners should be aware of.

One of the most reported problems for this model year revolves around the fuel system. Some owners have experienced fuel pump failure, which can lead to the vehicle stalling or not starting at all. The issue typically emerges after a significant mileage, and the only solution is to replace the fuel pump, which can be a relatively expensive repair.

Engine problems are another area of concern for the 1996 GMC Safari.

These include issues like the “Check Engine” light frequently coming on, misfiring, or engine stalling. In several cases, these problems were traced back to issues with the ignition system, such as a faulty ignition coil or a worn-out distributor cap and rotor. Fixing these problems typically involves replacing the faulty components, which, while not overly expensive, can add to maintenance costs over time.

Transmission failures have also been reported with this model, some occurring at relatively low mileages for a transmission issue.

Transmission replacement or rebuild is a significant expense and can be quite a headache for the vehicle’s owner. Symptoms of a failing transmission can include difficulty shifting gears, the transmission slipping out of gear, or a whining or humming noise. If these symptoms are experienced, it is crucial to get the vehicle to a mechanic as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

The 1996 GMC Safari has also had issues with the power door locks not working correctly, which, while less serious than engine or transmission issues, is still a significant inconvenience for owners. The cause is usually a faulty door lock actuator that needs to be replaced.

Lastly, some owners have reported issues with the van’s exterior lighting.

These problems range from the headlights going out intermittently to the brake lights not functioning correctly, posing a potential safety risk.

It’s important to note that while these issues have been reported, they do not affect every 1996 GMC Safari.

Many owners have had minimal problems and have found the van to be reliable. However, if you’re considering purchasing a used 1996 GMC Safari, or if you’re a current owner experiencing unexplained issues, these are areas you might want to investigate.

Remember, regular maintenance and prompt attention to any problems that arise can go a long way toward extending the life of any vehicle.

Common Problems to Look for in Used GMC Safaris

These vans are known for their durability, but they do have some common issues as well. Watch out for these problems when browsing for a used GMC Safari:

ABS Light Due to Brake System Control Unit Failure: This issue has been reported by 74 people, and it affects the ABS system in your van. While driving, you might notice your anti-lock braking system failing, especially at low speeds.

Outside Door Handles May Break: A total of 70 people have reported this issue. The door handles might show signs of wear, and, in some cases, they can break completely.

Door Locks Stop Working: 62 individuals have reported this issue with their GMC Safaris. The doors may become difficult to lock and unlock, causing inconvenience and potential security risks.

Besides these commonly reported issues, there are some other concerns like brake booster and rotor problems, which are frequently mentioned by owners. While looking for a used GMC Safari, make sure to thoroughly inspect these areas and confirm the vehicle’s service history to avoid purchasing a van with recurring issues.

1998 GMC Safari review: Our expert's take

It’s easy to overlook – or even have a field day criticizing – the 1997 GMC Safari SLT AWD mid-size van.

The Safari’s looks haven’t changed much since its original design in 1985 and it has been a bit slow to catch up to competitors. It doesn’t have a fourth door and unless you get the all-wheel-drive package that we had on our $30,560 test vehicle, you must settle for rear-wheel drive. And because it’s based on a truck chassis, not a car like many minivans, it drives like a truck.

Whew. But don’t stop reading. If you’re towing a big boat or camper or regularly take your three kids plus grandparents to Walt Disney World on vacation, you may want to take a hard look at the Safari, which can seat up to eight people. We did – and at least half of the family was sold on it.

He: I sure wasn’t sold on it and I didn’t even have to go as far as Disney World to make up my mind. I drove it from Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. The cramp in my left foot from having no space whatsoever on the driver’s side was enough to convince me.

She: You’re blaming the Safari for your big EEE feet? Now that’s fair comment and criticism. I agree that it is a little bit of a squeeze up there in the driver’s seat, but if you’re a short-legged, 5-3 person like me, you’re probably not going to suffer too much. Besides, I’ve seen the caravans down I-75 at Easter and Christmas vacation. Nine times out of ten, the woman is driving and the guy is snoring in the passenger seat.

He: I’m sorry, but I’m not one of those enlightened buyers who have discovered the dubious joys of owning and driving a Safari or its counterpart, the Chevrolet Astro. OK, the all-wheel-drive option is a great feature and I don’t even mind the truck chassis. With the big 4.3 V-6, you can tow a pretty sizable boat or trailer. But I have to tell you, driving the lumpy Ohio Turnpike, it didn’t take long for me to develop a case of nausea to go with my leg cramps.

She: I’ll admit that I wasn’t running out to the driveway to coo over the Safari. It’s tall and boxy and doesn’t have a lot of personality. But I kept thinking about our neighbor Donna, a person I really admire. She’s on her second Safari. I consider her a really salt-of-the-earth person who looks for functionality in a product and wants to keep the family together. That means a van that can not only haul her kids, but their friends, too. When’s the last time you tried to cram seven or eight people in a Caravan?

If you don’t believe me, look at the stats. The shoulder room alone in the center and rear of the Safari is 67 inches! That’s spread-out time.

He: I remember driving our family of four plus your parents and all our luggage in a competitor’s vehicle – one of those front-wheel-drive car-based minivans. I think we were pretty miserable and cramped after just a couple hundred miles, weren’t we? So the passengers will probably appreciate the extra space in the Safari, even if the driver has no place to put his or her feet. Another gripe I have is with the step-in height. I’m over 6 feet tall and it’s still a chore to climb in and out of the Safari.

She: You need to exercise more. You know what they say, climb stairs and you’ll stay out of the nursing home. I didn’t have any problem and neither did great-grandma, who is almost 96. Besides, I loved riding up higher than a typical minivan. But you do have to adjust your driving a bit because this is not a car. I noticed it going around curves. If you’re not cautious, it does feel tippy.

He: Another problem I noticed was passing trucks on the turnpike. I’d stomp on the accelerator and there’d be a noticeable lag before the V-6 kicked in. The 4.3 is a pretty powerful engine. It makes 190 horsepower, but I wonder if you really need the extra space and the towing capacity, why wouldn’t you just buy a full-size van? You can get a V-8 in one of those and I’ll bet the sticker price would actua be less. A lot less than the $30,000 sticker on our Safari test vehicle.

She: That was a bit pricey, I agree. But most Safari buyers settle for the slightly less deluxe SLE package that costs around $25,000. You’ll just have to figure out if you really can’t live without the $950 leather seats or the $309 heavy-duty trailering equipment.

Thank God GMC included antilock brakes as standard. If they are committed to families, though, I admit I was a bit disappointed that they’d make them pay extra for stuff like rear air conditioning and even earphone jacks. To me, earphone jacks, which basically keep your teen-agers happy with their music while you listen to Dr. Laura, are standard items, not options.

He: Anybody who is goofy enough to listen to Dr. Laura probably won’t mind paying all those thousands of dollars extra.

Jeep reveals 2024 Easter Safari concepts

We get two wranglers, a gladiator and a wagoneer this year.

gmc safari v8

There may be snow on the ground in many parts of the country as I write this, but spring is in the air even way up here in the once-frigid expanse of Michigan, and with it comes Jeep's annual celebration in Moab, Utah — the Easter Jeep Safari . And as is tradition, Jeep has a handful of concept builds to show off to this year's Safari-goers. While we won't be seeing anything along the lines of the now-retired Jeep Magneto or 392 Scrambler , it's still Easter Jeep Safari; there's always something cool.

Blame the UAW strike, retirements in Jeep leadership ( former design chief Mark Allen departed in May of last year) or what have you, but 2024 is a bit of a lean year. Jeep is bringing just two ground-up concept builds and two Jeep Performance Parts accessorized models to the 2024 edition of Easter Jeep Safari. There are no wild vintage riffs or rebodies this year, but that's just as well. We can file these in the "attainable" category for once. Let's dive in.

2024 Jeep Low Down Concept

Jeep Low Down

The Low Down Concept celebrates the V8. It was short-lived in the Wrangler but the 392 also made a splash in the Grand Cherokee SRT8. It may not be a "Jeep engine" in the strictest sense, but it's certainly one that Jeep fandom has embraced in recent years. The Low Down gets its name from an older Easter Jeep Safari Concept: the Lower Forty . Both are designed around their V8 engines (the Lower Forty had a 5.7-liter Hemi) and were customized so that the engines could be fitted without having to lift their bodies for extra clearance. This one rocks a standard 392 with 475 horsepower and a stock-height suspension but beefed-up Dana 60 axles and a set of 5.38 gears. That color is called Poison Apple Red, by the way.

2024 Jeep Willys Dispatcher Concept

Jeep Willys Dispatcher

With the retirement of the badass 6-speed electric Magneto , this 4xe-based Willys Dispatcher is by default the most forward-thinking concept Jeep has at the Safari this year. Embracing a sense of juxtaposition, Jeep's designers used this concept as the foundation for a throwback build featuring 36-inch tires on eggshell-colored steelies highlighted (literally) by a bright green finish. Inside, there's distressed leather with houndstooth inserts and no headrests to be found. Vintage. Or like on TV. Take your pick.

2024 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon High Top Concept

Jeep Gladiator Rubicon High Top

This one's my personal favorite. Maybe it's the sweet two-tone finish or the big, fat sidewalls, but this pickup-based build speaks to me. Those thick shoes are 40-inch BFG KO3s on 18x9-inch KMC Grenade Crawl beadlock wheels. Never would have imagined I'd see a street Jeep tire that would make an 18-inch wheel look tiny, but here we are.

Like the Vacationeer below, the High Top is decked out in Jeep Performance Parts goodies, including flat fender flares, Dana 60 front and rear axles, an AccuAir adjustable air suspension ( We got to sample one last year! ) and an entire pile of visual and go-anywhere bolt-ons from JPP and their partners at American Expedition Vehicles et al. This one's just based on the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, but that's OK. I'll take it as it sits.

2024 Jeep Vacationeer Concept

Jeep Vacationeer

No, not vacationer, but Vacation eer . This spearmint-wrapped Grand Wagoneer with a roof tent and a bunch of stuff in the back is... well, OK, it's a Grand Wagoneer with a roof tent and a bunch of stuff in the back. In fact, maybe it's just me, but the Vacationeer looks an awful lot like the Camp Lux Grand Wagoneer from a year ago, which was also a Grand Wagoneer with a roof tent and a bunch of stuff in the back. But it can't be, right? I mean, it's green and the wheels are different... Can you rattle-can a roof tent chassis? Asking for a friend.

gmc safari v8

That's it for the 2024 round of Easter Jeep Safari Concepts. As I said above, it's a lean year in Moab, but 2024 is going to be a big one for Jeep. Why? One word: Recon . Stay tuned.

‘Total Disgrace’: Anger, Frustration as Mass Heating Failures Across Russia Leave Thousands in the Cold

P ODOLSK, Moscow region – Residents throughout Russia affected by unprecedented winter heating outages in recent days have expressed their frustration and urged local authorities to restore heating in their homes.

In Podolsk, a town some 30 kilometers south of the capital Moscow, at least 149,000 residents — nearly half of its population — were left without heating when a heating main burst at a nearby private ammunition plant.

“It’s a total disgrace. There is no heating and no hot water. We have to sleep in sleeping bags,” Yuri, a local resident, told The Moscow Times.

“I have no words to describe how bad the situation is," said Yuri, who declined to provide his surname. "We have had no heating for almost six days."

Heating issues have affected residents in the Moscow region, where temperatures have plunged to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius in the past week, as well as people in the Far East Primorye region , the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg , Penza , the southern Voronezh and Volgograd regions and more.

In the Tver region, a group of residents filmed an appeal to President Vladimir Putin, saying that they “are freezing from the cold” in the village of Novozavidovsky.

“We're literally being killed by the cold,” a woman in the video said, adding that they have been sending requests to local authorities since September after their houses were connected to a boiler room whose power was reportedly insufficient.

“This is some kind of torture and extermination of the population 100 kilometers from Moscow,” she added.

Residents of the Moscow region town of Elektrostal lit a fire in the street to draw the authorities’ attention to the heating problem.

“It’s impossible to stay in our houses. We're freezing!” a group of women in the video said.

Suffering from subzero temperatures, residents are placing the blame on local authorities and utility services for failing to take necessary precautions and not taking action to resolve the situation.

“We are sending complaints everywhere but no one listens to us. We have portable heaters working in every room, but the temperature inside is still 10 degrees Celsius,” Yelena from Podolsk said.

“There is a clinic and a hospital, as well as kindergartens, where there is no heating. And we have no answers, no assistance, no explanation,” Yelena added.

Podolsk authorities opened temporary heating centers and declared a state of emergency.

Local authorities linked the heating problems to the fact that the town is heated by a boiler plant owned by the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant, a private ammunition factory and one of the largest weapon cartridge production enterprises in the country.

“The facility is under tight security conditions, which limits our ability to oversee winter preparations,” the Moscow region’s Vice Governor Yevgeny Khromushin said last week. “We were unaware of the problem for nearly a day.”

An unidentified Moscow region official and two senior executives at the plant were arrested on suspicion of providing unsafe services, Russia’s Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said in a statement Tuesday.

Investigators said that Podolsk’s deputy mayor was accused of misusing authority by issuing a readiness certificate for the boiler house at the plant.

In the neighboring Tver region, the authorities opened a criminal case over the laundering of over 84 million rubles ($938,993) in heating bills paid by residents, the Astra Telegram channel reported this week, citing unidentified sources. According to investigators, the heads of the local water intake and boiler house misappropriated the heating payments for personal use.

Reacting to the heating failures, Putin on Tuesday asked Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov to provide heat and electricity to the affected residents.

The outages appear to be the latest effect of several decades of crumbling infrastructure in Russia which have been linked to endemic corruption and mismanagement.

The overall decay of Russia's municipal infrastructure surpassed 70% in 2022, the pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia reported .

According to Sergei Pakhomov, head of the State Duma’s Construction, Housing and Utilities Committee, water pipes that were 90 years old or even older were still in use as recently as two years ago in some cases.

Housing, utilities and communal services are a common source of problems for Russians during the winter.

In St. Petersburg, residents regularly complain about extensive ice coverage on city streets and sidewalks, with many people ending up in the hospital over the years due to slipping and falling accidents.

In the Siberian republic of Khakassia, two villages were left without electricity last month due to apparent issues with outdated communication systems.

In the winter of 2020, five people in the Perm region were killed after a pipe burst.

When asked about the latest heating outages, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the problems and linked them to poor municipal infrastructure, saying that people “had to endure a lot of inconvenience in the cold and without electricity.”

"Despite all the titanic efforts to update all housing and communal services systems, there's still a certain part that remains considerably deteriorated. These programs will continue, but it is impossible to update all pipes and all housing and communal services systems in 10-15 years,” Peskov said.

As for now, residents affected by heating issues appear to lack optimism that the problems will be solved efficiently.

"It's been a week since we've had heating, and the temperature in my apartment is around 11 degrees Celsius,” Podolsk resident Lidiya told The Moscow Times.

“Unfortunately, no one knows when it will be repaired,” she added.

V8 swap into 2004 safari

  • Add to quote

hey hows it going I seized the engine in my 2004 safari 2 days ago, hit a rock down a gravel road covered by snow and cracked the oil pan. I want to do a V8 swap, what is the best year of chev/gmc V8 that will fit my van seeing it has the vortec 4.3., also do transmission and tranfercase need to be changed with the V8 to work with the wiring harness and ecu form the V8. All info is greatly appreciated Thanks Poolboy

Gary

I would suggest a V8 the same yr or better. The engine has to come out via the bottom on the sub frame or you have to cut the rad support and make brackets later to bolt it back in.

Ya I guessed the same year but isn't the 2004 chev/gmc a 5.3 not a 5.7 or will the 5.3 fit into my van?

astrovan98

Check with your local G.M. parts guy and see if there's a 5.7 engine that will work with your PCM. Around 2002 the Astro/Safari line switched up to the Gen III style of PCM. You may have to do some rewiring to make an older VCM work with a 5.7 engine. See the info below regarding the Gen 1 truck 5.7L engine, also known as the L31. Although, you can use a car engine instead of the truck version, but the engine management system will still be an issue. I am in the final stages of completing a 5.3L Gen 3 LM7 engine (2005 Chevy Silverado 1500) into my 1998 Astro. It fits but it is tight. Reminds me of the small block V8's we put in the 60's Chevy vans to replace the inline 6 cyls. CAUTION:The 5.3L swap is by far the best engine in the G.M. small block line-up, but is definitely an advanced project. It is not a weekend swap. Nothing interchanges, you have to get the matching transmission, and everything is custom fit and fabricated. Nobody makes adapter mounts for the Gen 3 engines. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Vortec 5700 L31 is a V8 truck engine. Displacement is 5.7 L. It is the last production Generation I small-block from Chevrolet. The cylinder heads feature combustion chambers very similar to those of the LT1 V8, but without the reverse-flow cooling. As such, the L31 head is compatible with all older small-blocks, and is a very popular upgrade. It offers the performance of more expensive heads, at a much lower cost. It does, however, require a specific intake manifold (a Vortec head has four bolts attaching the intake manifold as opposed to the traditional six bolts per head). The L31 was replaced by the 5.3 L 5300 LM7. The 2002 model year was the final year for the L31 5.7 L small block V-8 whose origins date back to 1955. The Vortec 5700 produces 255 horsepower (190 kW) and 330 ft·lbf (450 N·m) of torque. It is currently being produced as a crate engine for marine applications and automotive hobbyists as the "ramjet 350" with minor modifications. L31 applications: * 1996-2003 Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana full-size vans * 1996-1999 Chevrolet/GMC C/K full-size trucks * 1996-1999 Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Suburban full-size long-wheelbase SUVs * 1996-1999 Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon full-size short-wheelbase SUVs * 1999-2000 Cadillac Escalade

I've got good news and it has nothing to do with Geico.... For over a year now I have slowly been converting my 2001 RWD Astro to V8. I have learned so many things. Found a totalled GMC Yukon with less than 100 miles on it. I bought the entire drivetrain from it. This consisted of a 5.3L (drive by wire) V8, its 4L65e transmission, drive by wire accel pedal and both the PCM & TCM. Mounting it was much more simple than one could have imagined. I bought the Jags That Run conversion V8 mounts for Astro/Safari that everyone talks about. I then bought some adapters that mate a newer LSx based block to old school V8 mounts. Everything mounted right up! Existing transmission mounts from the original Astro 4L60e worked. I didn't even have to modify the stock drive shaft! Left me with 8-10" between motor and radiator. So far I have installed: 2007 5.3L DBW V8 2007 4L65e tranny Precision Industries Vigilante 3000 Stall Z06 cylinder heads LG Motorsports G5Xe camshaft w/ Crane double springs Performance Underdrive crank pulley C6/Z06 massive electric cooling fan w/ Vette GM fan controller In progress: fuel system mod under hood wiring rear disc brakes rearend posi unit May have to swap a better rearend. We'll see. I don't plan on ever taking it to the strip with slicks but will treat every traffic light as a challenge to anyone who thinks it still has the 4.3L under it. Questions you may have so far: #1 How do you plan on getting the stock guages to work? #2 How will the cruise control to work since the Astro was not DBW? Answers: #1 & #2 Found a guy named Jared at a place called Current Performance ( http://www.currentperformance.com ) out of Florida. This man has intimate knowledge of the complete electronic blueprints to modern GM vehicles. He told me that if I wanted the cruise control to work that I had to ditch the 2007 Yukon's PCM. Turns out that the `07 Yukon's cruise is handled by the Yukon's BCM. Not good. However, Jared said that a 2007 Trailblazer SS PCM would do it. So dumped the Yukon's PCM for the Trailblazer PCM. Jared is now building me a harness that will be plug and play to my engine, transmission and Z06 electric fan. He says all my factory interior gauges will work and my factory interior cruise controls will work! woo hoo Exhaust should be easy and we think that some f-body headers should work. I hope this has pulled a little mystery out of modern Astro V8 swaps. Wheels55 :layrubber:

No problem.... going up to my bud's shop this evening. I'll try to remember to take the camera. This whole idea is his. He's a Go-Fast guy who gets 650RWHP out of NA Vettes on 93 everyday. It has his idea to build me something that I can get my wheelchair in/out of easily while still being comfortable and able to satisfy my daily need for speed. No, I'm not going to ruin it with ramps and such. Just going to remove the middle seat so I can easily pull my chair in and lock it down. If I need to take a family road trip, the middle seat can go back in. I have some sweet Boyd wheels to put on it and hope to switch it over to airbags to drop it when parked. For accessibility, of course! ;-) Wheels :layrubber:

Who knows... I may like it so much that I end up pulling the 5.3L and stuff a built up LS3 in it! :layrubber: :layrubber: :layrubber: :layrubber: :layrubber: :layrubber: :layrubber:

Yes, actually I do..... All wiring is ready to drop in. Took quite a while to get that wiring done and shipped back to me. Finally got the exhaust figured out. After many trials and errors, G8 GT Kooks Long Tube Headers fit like a champ. Just needed a small trim of drivers side motor mount. Passenger side just needed a small frame notch and box and 2" relocate of a brake line. The good friend and expert that is doing this for me has had very limited time to work on my van but I'm patiently waiting.... :layrubber:

The fuel system will be last on our list. We'll probably datalog it with HP Tuners and if it looks good, to the DynoJet with the wideband. :layrubber:

Shiny headers for the win! What part of the world are you in? I'd love to run that van when you're done. :layrubber:

Kooks Headers..... They are for a Pontiac G8 GT and two of the primary tubes (one on each side) had to be rerouted. Dallas, TX area.... Gonna spray it too in the end, after the 9" rear goes in.... :chevy: :layrubber:
