Clubs are the primary collectible item in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout , and its biggest gameplay feature.

Each player starts the game with a few clubs and more are granted through the game's tutorial . Additional clubs are collected by opening card packs , buying cards from the Pro Shop , or buying in-app purchase bundles . Some clubs are available to players by default, and additional clubs become available to earn and use as you increase your player level by gaining XP .

  • 5 Special Abilities
  • 6 Club Levels
  • 7 List of Clubs

Each club in the game falls into one of six types , reflecting real-world categories of golf clubs. Each category of club is a particular archetype that determines its general performance on the course, including strengths and weaknesses.

  • Putters are clubs that shoot along the ground and work best near the pin on the green.
  • Drivers work best from the tee and shoot for long distances.
  • Woods are best hit from the fairway for long, straight, accurate shots.
  • Hybrids are a cross between woods and irons, accumulating many of the strengths and weaknesses of both types.
  • Irons shoot for shorter distances but are very versatile and work great in unfavorable terrain .
  • Wedges hit the ball high, but not far, and are typically used near the green to chip in the ball.

Rarities [ ]

Every club has a rarity indicating how easy or difficult it is to collect through various means. A club's rarity doesn't have a direct impact on its stats or performance, and some of the most commonly used clubs by avid players fall into the lower rarities.

The rarities a club can have are:

Each collectible club in the game belongs to one of six fictional manufacturer brands (except for clubs of mythical rarity , which have no brand). Each brand has a persona that its clubs typically fall into. In many cases a particular brand's clubs have properties that make them work well together with other clubs of the same brand. The most lucrative solo challenges require a player to use an entire bag consisting of a single brand's clubs.

  • Corvid clubs specialize in defying physics and wind.
  • Forester clubs gain bonuses depending on their proximity to trees.
  • PALO clubs excel at tackling unfavorable terrain.
  • Ryusei clubs have unique special abilities that enhance themselves and adjacent clubs.
  • Stanchion clubs are among the most powerful, but they can be unpredictable and hard to control.
  • Willoughsby clubs have average stats but get great stat bonuses when used in conjunction with each other.

A club's stats are the primary measure of its performance on the golf course. Most clubs have a power , control , and spin stat, except for putters which only have power and control.

  • Power determines how far a club can hit a golf ball in comparison to other clubs of its type. However, how the power stat affects ball flight distance varies widely among club types. For instance, a driver with a relatively low power stat can still hit a ball much further from the tee than an iron or wedge of the same numerical power.
  • A club's control is a measure of how accurate it is, and affects multiple aspects of hitting the ball. A higher control stat makes it easier to hit a ball accurately, and gives you a better indication of where the ball will actually land when hit. A high control stat will also add more "forgiveness" to badly missed shots, sending them less off-course.
  • Draw and fade is how much you are able to curve the ball's flight path to the left or right of center when hitting. A high draw or fade can be very useful in setting up strong approach shots or curving your ball around aerial obstacles. A club's spin stat affects draw (left curve) and fade (right curve) equally.
  • Groundspin is how much a ball can roll along the course surface after landing. Groundspin is most useful on or around the green when you want to apply a bit of extra distance on a shot, or make sure a shot stops where you want it to. Groundspin often doesn't have a noticeable effect on other terrain types. Top spin (causing a ball to roll forward) is typically much more pronounced than back spin (causing a ball to roll backwards).

Clubs typically excel in only one or two stats out of the three, requiring players to make hard decisions and trade-offs about which clubs to use. Some clubs have very low relative stats overall among clubs in their category, but make up for this otherwise low performance with powerful special abilities .

The stats of a club usually increase at a steady pace as they level up, but the distribution of stats will generally be the same for a low-level club as it will be for a maxed-out club.

Special Abilities [ ]

Every club has at least one special ability, ranging from simple stat boosts to themselves or other clubs, to extreme powers that defy the laws of physics. Some special abilities are shared among clubs of a particular type or brand, while others are completely unique to a single club. Special abilities may affect only the club that holds the ability, clubs adjacent in the bag, clubs in a bag that fit a particular criteria, or all clubs in a bag.

Special abilities may increase in effectiveness over time as a club levels up, or be affected in real-time by factors on the course such as wind, terrain, nearby objects, or the club you hit with last. Some special abilities are locked and not available until a club reaches a certain level.

Some examples of special abilities clubs can have are:

  • Brand Loyalty , giving a bonus to the club based on adjacent clubs in a player's bag that share a brand.
  • Bag Wind Resist , giving additional resistance to the effects of wind on ball flight, no matter which club in the bag made the hit.
  • Control Boost , giving a bonus to the control stat of the immediately adjacent left club.
  • Magnetism , causing the ball to be sucked toward the hole within a certain radius around it.
  • Chain abilities, giving a stat bonus to the next club fitting a certain criteria after hitting with the club that carries the ability.

Club Levels [ ]

Each club is first collected by a player at a certain level based on its rarity, and levels up over time to a maximum level of 12.

Clubs are leveled up by earning a certain number of cards per level, then paying coins to perform the upgrade to the next level. When a club levels up, either its stats or special abilities will increase. A club may also gain new special abilities when it reaches a certain level.

The number of cards and amount of coins required to reach each new level threshold is based on a club's current level and rarity.

List of Clubs [ ]

As of update 2.2.0 , there are 51 total clubs to collect across the different types , rarities , and brands .

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout Guide: Tips, Cheats & Tricks to Level Up Fast

By: Author Sean O'Reilly

Posted on Last updated: April 27, 2019

Any self-respecting fan of golf should know what the PGA Tour is all about. That is why it comes as no surprise that PGA TOUR Golf Shootout has quickly become one of the top sports games since it was launched. Available on Android and iOS platforms, the game lets you experience what it is like to participate in the PGA Tour competition. You can sink birdies and hit holes in one in perfectly manicured courses.

Enjoy the stunningly realistic visuals are you compete in the most respected tournaments in golf. You can hone your skills by taking on the TPC courses in single-player mode while completing multiple Daily challenges. If you’re feeling a bit competitive, you can go against some of the best players around the world in Versus mode. There is a lot of content waiting to be unlocked, and you will need the help of our PGA TOUR Golf Shootout tips, cheats and tricks to get them all for free!

1. What Are Levels For?

You are probably wondering why there is a level system in a sports game like PGA TOUR Golf Shootout. First off, you get to have bragging rights as a veteran player if you have a higher level. More importantly, however, you gain access to more features of the game. Even though the game can be downloaded for free, a lot of its content is locked behind level requirements. You will need to level up quickly in order to fully enjoy everything that the game has to offer.

pga tour golf shootout tips

The level system also isn’t like more other games where you just keep playing and you automatically get experience for nearly every tap you make on the screen. Here you need to level up golf clubs in order to gain experience. You will have to put in a lot of work if you don’t want to spend real money in order to level up.

2. How To Level Up Clubs

If you are familiar with games like Clash Royale , you would be able to understand the club levels more quickly. Clubs are acquired mostly through opening packs. When you open a pack, you will see a countdown timer. You will need to wait until the timer reaches zero in order to get the contents of the pack. You can spend real money to skip the countdown timer, but that would be a waste. Packs contain random cards, so you will need to open up a lot of them in order to get what you need.

To level up a club in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout you need silver coins and enough duplicate cards of that club. You gain experience every time you level up a card, but the costs for the next level also increases. The good news is that you get access to even better clubs while you grind for experience. This makes you stronger while allowing you to unlock more content.

3. Open More Packs

Since the contents of packs are random, you won’t always get what you need to level up your clubs. That is why you need to open up as many packs as you can. If you have unlocked Challenges, you should complete all that you can in order to get more packs. Some Challenges reward you with packs that can be opened instantly. You should also check on your Clubhouse rewards for more packs.

If you are tired of waiting around for packs to open, you can speed up the process by spending premium currency. You get some premium currency for free from time to time, so you won’t have to spend real money. A better way to speed up packs, however, is by watching video advertisements.

4. Claim Your Freebies

When you have free time, you should drop by the in-game store. You can watch video advertisements from the store in order to get some freebies. Tap on the Free Rewards button at the bottom of the screen to watch the ads. This is an easy way to gain resources needed for upgrading your clubs. Try to watch a few videos every day in order to maximize your resource gain. You can watch up to five ads per day, and we recommend that you watch all of them because you get premium currency after the fifth video.

pga tour golf shootout tricks

Another freebie that you can get your hands on comes every 24 hours. You can claim this from the game’s main screen, and it can be opened without having to wait for timers. Even if you don’t have time to play for the day, make sure you still try to log in every 24 hours to claim your free reward.

Finally, you get free packs whenever you win in Versus mode. These are timed packs, so make sure you open them up as soon as you can. You should also set an alarm in order to claim them as soon as their timer is done. You can only have one pack queued up to open at any given time. That means every second that there isn’t a new pack queued up is wasted.

5. Improve Your FedEx Cup Rank

Gold is the premium currency in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout. Every pack you open has a small chance of containing some Gold. We also mentioned earlier that you can get some more gold by watching five ads per day. If you want more Gold, however, you will need to increase your FedEx Cup Rank. You can do this by simply playing more matches against other players. The game gives out rank rewards at the end of each season. The reward pack you get improves every 10 ranks. The better the reward, the more cards, coins, and Gold you will get when the season ends.

6. Play In Solo Mode

Everyone wants to play live PVP games, but there is some benefit to playing in solo mode. Aside from providing you a good way to practice your shots, you also earn a decent amount of loot in clearing single-player stages. This will help you level up more clubs and raise your player level even faster. Remember, the key to leveling up is getting as many resources as you can, even if it means playing against the AI once in a while.

7. How To Win Matches

How good you are in the game influences how fast you level up since you need to keep winning in order to get more cards, coins, and Gold. While the game relies heavily on skill, there are still a few things you can do to improve your chances of winning matches. First off, understand how the game works. Before you take a shot, you will need to choose a club. The game sets a default one for you, but you can choose a different one if you like. The game’s recommendation is usually a solid choice, so switch only if you know what you’re doing.

Once you have a club selected, you can drag on the ball to get a bird’s eye view of the course and see where your ball will most likely go. Keep in mind that wind and other conditions can still affect the final position of your ball. You can also influence the behavior of the ball by choosing where to first touch it before you drag. Touching the top side of the ball will give it a topspin, allowing it to bounce and roll when it lands. Touching the bottom side will make it roll backwards depending on the surface it touches.

pga tour golf shootout guide

Clubs also have a great impact on your gameplay. That’s the whole point of collecting them and leveling them up. They have different basic stats and special abilities. Make sure you pay attention to the descriptions before making your choice. You should also have multiple bags assembled, so you can switch between them depending on the kind of course you get. For example, if you are up against a narrow par 3 course, you should pick a Driver with higher accuracy. Power isn’t needed as much since it’s a smaller course. Packing bags with clubs that are designed for specific courses make it easier for you to gain the upper hand during a match. You get to have two bag slots for free. If you have the extra currency, you can unlock even more. For now, you can stick to one bag for smaller courses, and another for bigger ones.

A final tip for winning more games is to stop yourself from getting tilted. Golf is just as much a mental game than anything else. If you get a bad shot, don’t give up right away. If you’re lucky, your opponent might mess up even worse, giving you a chance to catch up. Even if you don’t win, you still have the chance of getting a tie. The game gives out Tie Tokens which gives you the chance to earn better packs if you win next time.

Leveling up in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout is easy, especially when you rely on the tips, cheats and tricks we have listed above! If you have anything to add, don’t hesitate to let us know using the comment box below!

EA Sports PGA Tour 2023: Golf Bag and Club Spec Guide

Everything you need to know about getting better equipment.

Andrés

EA Sports PGA Tour 2023 allows you to heavily customize your golfing gear with its golf bag and specs systems.

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to make the most of these systems so that you have the best equipment possible!

How to Optimize Your Golf Bag and Club Specs in EA Sports PGA Tour 2023

pga tour game best clubs

Before we start, we want to clear a common misunderstanding that new players make in this game: the clubs in the store are purely cosmetic and don’t boost your stats.

You can still get them if you want, but don’t buy them thinking that they will improve your stats.

Instead, you will want to buy Specs. You can buy them from the Specs tab of the in-game store, so you should save your money for them!

pga tour game best clubs

Specs come in multiple varieties. These are the following, from best to worst: Pro, Legendary, Epic, Rare, Uncommon, and Common.

The Pro rarity is basically a variation of the Legendary rarity; both are gold-colored but Pro Specs are named after professional golfers and provide better stats.

As you might imagine, the rarer specs are much better but also much more expensive!

pga tour game best clubs

Every Spec is also primarily aimed toward one stat, but that doesn’t mean that’s the only stat they boost. For example, this Legendary Accuracy spec also greatly improves Power, Control, and Recovery.

Luckily, you can see the stats before you purchase! You don’t have to buy Specs blindly while hoping for the best.

Additionally, you can get Club Specs by completing various Quests in Career Mode. If money’s tight, go complete some quests and you’ll hopefully get some good specs without dealing with the store!

After you’ve got some good Specs, you need to customize your Golf Bag to apply them.

How to Customize Your Golf Bag and Use Specs

pga tour game best clubs

Your golf bags can be edited from the Equipment tab in the Golfer category of the main menu.

You can have up to 5 different golf bag presets at once. This allows you to quickly switch between different setups in the Play menu.

Choose which golf bag you want to customize so you can see every modifiable piece of equipment: the bag itself, all the golf clubs, and the golf ball.

pga tour game best clubs

You can select any of them to modify them, which allows you to apply any cosmetics you own, but is also how you apply Specs to your clubs and ball.

Specs can be found on the rightmost tab when applying equipment modifications. You can navigate to it by pressing the bumper buttons on your controller or using your mouse on PC.

Specs that are already applied will have a green check mark on their icon . Hovering over any other spec will show you the stat difference, which is key to comparing them!

pga tour game best clubs

Once you pick the spec you want to apply, you will get to select the loft for your clubs. This will greatly change how they behave, but the selection depends on your personal preference.

Best Clubs to use in PGA Tour 2K21

Image of Paul DeMarco

Do you want to hit more fairways and greens in PGA Tour 2K21? It might be time to revisit your club choices if you’re having some problems. There are lots of options, and each club has its pros and cons. The best choice comes down to what best fits your playstyle. Some clubs have better stats than others, though. Here’s a look at some of the best clubs to use in PGA Tour 2K21.

Let’s open up that Golf Bag and see what the game has to offer. We’ll take a look at the best drivers, woods, irons, hybrids, and wedges. Each of the clubs in PGA Tour 2K21 has five different attributes that affect it:

  • Distance : how far the ball travels
  • Shot Shaping : effects the fade and draw
  • Forgiveness : swing timing bar
  • Swing Plane : how straight you can swing within the swing line bar
  • Distance Control : transition point of the backswing to downswing

Here are some of the best clubs to use in PGA Tour 2K21:

TaylorMade SIM MAX – Driver

Callaway Mavrik Standard – 3 Wood

TaylorMade SIM MAX – 5 Wood

TaylorMade SIM MAX – 3 Hybrid

TaylorMade SIM MAX – 4 Hybrid

Bridgestone Golf Tour B JGR HF2 – 5 Iron

Bridgestone Golf Tour B JGR HF2 – 6 Iron

  • Bridgestone Golf Tour B JGR HF2 – 7 Iron
  • Bridgestone Golf Tour B JGR HF2 – 8 Iron

The Golf Club TGC CV Master – Pitching Wedge

The Golf Club TGC CV Master – Gap Wedge

The Golf Club TGC CV Master – Sand Wedge

The Golf Club TGC CV Master – Lob Wedge

These clubs are popular choices by professional golfers like Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods, and Rory Mcllroy. The stats on these clubs are solid all around. It’s a forgiving club with a very long distance, meaning you can hit the ball a long way. The forgiveness meter is also about halfway, meaning the swing timer bar is sizeable. It’s not an excellent club for Shot Shaping, also known as the fade and draw, but the club makes up for it in other aspects.

The Callaway Mavrik Standard boasts a reasonable distance, high forgiveness for a 3 Wood, and good all-around stats. It has a carry of 223 yards. Overall, it has high forgiveness for a 3 Wood, which helps a lot with timing.

The TaylorMade Sim Max 5 Wood carries 204 yards. This club boasts high forgiveness and solid swing plane, making it a top tier choice to throw in your bag.

Distance and Shot Shaping stats on this club are great for a hybrid. Again, forgiveness is very high with this club, which is why you may want to consider using it in your bag.

Like the 3 Hybrid, the SIM MAX 4 Hybrid offers solid distance and high forgiveness. PGA Tour 2K21 seems to be all about swing timing, so this is an ideal choice.

These clubs are popular picks by professionals like Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, and Bryson DeChambeau. Distance, Forgiveness, and Distance Control are all very high with this club. It has one of the highest forgiveness stats out of all the irons.

Like the 5 Iron, the 6 Iron has high forgiveness and a good swing plane. That combination makes it an excellent addition to the bag. We also stick with the same brand and model for the 7 and 8 iron clubs.

It’s one of the earlier pitching wedges you have access to, but it’s also one of the best all-around wedges. If you struggle with timing, the high forgiveness, swing plane, and distance control are phenomenal.

Again, we’re going with The Golf Club brand wedges. The all-around high stats make it a good option that you can use at any point in the game.

Sticking with the same brand and model, we’re going with the TGC CV Master. Again, the Forgiveness, Swing Plane, and Distance control is just what we’re looking for in a wedge.

When it comes to the short game, this club has all the stats you want. Distance is not great, but that doesn’t matter when it comes to the short game.

Finally, when it comes to putters, the choice does not matter all that much. Unlike other clubs like the drivers, irons, woods, hybrids, and wedges, there are no attributes. Pick whatever you think looks good to your eye. Aside from that, there’s no best putter in PGA Tour 2K21.

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout cheats, tips - Expert swinging tips

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout cheats, tips - Expert swinging tips

Everything you need to get perfect shots

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout sees you facing off against other players online to take them down and show them how you operate a club. Hell yeah.

You’ll be playing off against real players in addition to set challenges, and to beat down those people and complete those challenges, you should read these tips.

Here we’re going over how to use your clubs and aim your shots, which is of course incredibly important. It seems like a simple system at first, but there’s a decent amount of nuance at play that can really help you if you manage to adjust your play.

Know your clubs

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout

This is a pretty smart game. I mean, the developers obviously know how golf clubs work. Better than me, at least. Which is nice, because that means each have specific advantages and disadvantages that you should take note of.

For most shots, the game will assign you the club in your bag that is best for the situation, and generally, you shouldn’t stray too far from the variety of clubs you start with.

A Wedge, a Driver and a Putter are all important tools for professional golfers, while Irons and Hybrids can be used for more specific situations.

You can of course assign your own clubs in your bag, which is recommended as you unlock a better variety, but take note of their benefits. Your starting clubs are good all-rounders, and other clubs tend to be more situational.

Check the stats of the clubs, including how far they can drive the ball, and how powerful their spin capabilities are. If you’re a more casual, straight shooter, then you might want to avoid those clubs which are better at giving your ball a spin.

Though, you should also feel confident about branching out a bit and using a bigger variety of clubs.

1 Hitting the mark

When you take a shot you just need to pull back on the golf ball, pulling it further back for more power, and holding it to the left or right to angle your shot.

You can slide your finger to the top of the screen to cancel your shot and select another club, if you so choose.

Generally, you should aim for that perfect mark in the centre of the screen, and the less power you have the easier it is to aim for that mark and not go too wide. Though, you can also tactically aim just off centre to angle your shots after aiming.

2 The better shot

When you first take your shot, the game will aim directly to the hole. This is good for shorter courses, but courses which are angled or have hazards, well, it’s less convenient.

You can, as with the last tip, aim your shot first, but also you might be able to use a different club for a better shot.

Some clubs might give a bit more accuracy, allowing you to aim shots squarely between sandbanks, for example.

3 Risk and reward

Every shot is a matter of risk and reward. The further you pull back on the shot, the more wildly it can go out of control. Very risky, and tempting, especially when that fully charged shot can take you near the green.

It's up to you, but sometimes, it's better to hit the fairway or the rough and not risk having your shot go out of bounds.

A tough decision to make, definitely, but it can be worthwhile to take the risk, especially if you feel like you've got good timing and reactions.

What Clubs Do Pros Use? Top 100 PGA Tour Player Guide (2023 update)

Graeme Hay

Written by Graeme Hay | Last Updated: 12/03/2024

A set of Titleist golf clubs used by a PGA Tour pro

In spite of the fact that pros seem to play a very different game to regular amateurs it is almost impossible for us not to pay close attention to the clubs the best golfers in the world are using.

There is a small part of every amateur golfer I suspect that believes that if we simply play the same club that the pros are using then some of their magic will transfer to us and we will be able to hit some of the same shots as they do.

But what clubs do the pros actually use?

If you analysed all the golf bags of the best players on the PGA Tour and chose the most popular 14 clubs the pros carry what golf set would you end up with?

We decided to do a comprehensive analysis of the top 100 players on the PGA Tour to find out.

The most popular 14 clubs the top 100 PGA Tour pros use starts with driver, 3-wood and 5-wood with 33 choosing these woods. The most common iron set, used by 42% begins with a 4-iron to a pitching wedge that matches the iron set. 3 specialist wedges – a 50º gap, 56º sand, and 60º lob wedge are finally added to the putter.

The best players in the world however clearly don’t all use this setup and many use a number of different variations of higher numbers fairway woods such as a 7-wood, utility irons, and hybrids .

Others, particularly the younger generation, prefer to carry 4 specialist wedges including a specialist pitching wedge instead of a pitching wedge that matches their iron set.

And indeed some of the players will change the make up of their set on a regular basis depending on the particular course they are playing that week.

It is interesting however that the most common set-up of the best players on Tour will feel familiar to millions of amateurs across the world despite all of the options that are available to pros today.

But while the most common golf club set up for the top pros is one thing we wanted also to find out what the best golfers on the PGA Tour considered to be the best individual golf clubs, including lofts, shafts, grips.

And not only that we also wanted to see what had changed since the last time we carried out this analysis two years ago!

Most Popular Golf Clubs on the PGA Tour – Top 100 Player Breakdown

When it comes to pro golf clubs and the most common set of clubs used by the top 100 players on the PGA Tour there is clearly a lot of similarity to the club type choices made by regular amateurs.

Having a set of clubs with 3 woods, 7 irons, 3 wedges, and a putter will be a familiar thing for the vast majority of amateur players.

But when it comes to the individual club choices of this elite group on the PGA Tour it is interesting to note what they consider to be the best clubs among the most common set up.

Titleist’s TSR3 driver is the most used by the top 100 PGA Tour pros with TaylorMade’s Stealth Plus the most popular 3-wood and 5-wood. Titleist’s T100 irons are the most played with 20 playing them while Titleist’s Vokey Design SM9 is the most used gap, sand, and lob wedge. TaylorMade’s Spider X is the most popular putter.

For those interested in the detail of the most used individual clubs among the top PGA Tour pros choosing the most common club setup, including lofts, shafts, and grips we have included all this in the table below.

If you went to your local golf shop and picked up this set up of clubs you are clearly not automatically going to play like a top PGA Tour pro.

But for all the club choice options that are available to the best players in the world it is interesting to see how close this set probably is to the majority of amateurs across the world.

Further when we last did this research a couple of years ago this same set up was found to the be most common among the top 100 pros.

Golfing Focus infographic of most popular golf club brands played by the top 100 PGA Tour pros

Saying that however our analysis also found that the top pros are all constantly searching for little changes and tweaks in their golf set which will save them a stroke or three across the course of a round or a tournament.

Many pros will therefore change one or two of their clubs from week to week depending on the type of course they find themselves playing, whether that be adding in an extra wedge at the expense of a fairway wood or utility iron, or adding in a hybrid in place of their longest iron.

Take a close look at Hideki Matsuyama’s bag on the driving range at a PGA Tour event for example and you will likely see 17 or even 18 clubs in his bag.

And this means you will sometimes find him swapping in a 20º Srixon ZX Mk II utility iron in place of his Cobra King RadSpeed Tour 5-wood when the course set up demands it.

This variation among the longer clubs in the bag is most common for many of the pros who do follow the ‘standard’ set up listed above.

For every pro that uses a 5-wood you will find close to a similar number who choose a higher numbered 7-wood, utility iron or hybrid in its place.

Further a number of the pros opt to carry more than one utility iron or hybrid and then start their standard iron-set with a 5-iron or sometimes even a 6-iron.

The decision to play 4 specialist wedges instead of the standard 3 by replacing the pitching wedge which comes with the rest of the iron set is also increasing in popularity particularly among the younger generation of pros on the PGA Tour.

So for the sake of completeness in the table below we list the most popular clubs among the alternative clubs which we found used by some of the top 100 PGA Tour pros.

[Editor’s note – to put together this analysis we researched all the drivers, fairway woods, utility or driving irons, irons, irons, wedges, and putters used by the top 100 players on the PGA Tour. What Brand of Golf Clubs Do the Pros Use? Titleist Remains Dominant

When it comes to golf club brands they are an ever-increasing number of options on the market today.

As golf technology has developed at a rapid rate, and particularly since the turn of the century, an increasing number of specialist brands have entered the market and sometimes specialized in areas of the game, such as putter grips, previously considered not thought of as worthy of dedicated attention.

The big golf brands however have maintained an almost vice-like grip over the golf market and when it comes to the professional ranks, and what they consider to be the best golf clubs, that grip is once again in evidence.

Titleist is the dominant brand among the clubs used by the top 100 PGA Tour pros. Their clubs are the most used across almost all categories of clubs – drivers, utility irons, irons, hybrids and wedges. And in the hybrid and putter categories they are the 2nd most popular. Callaway and PING are the next most popular brands.

For many years everyone has been aware of Titleist’s stranglehold over the golf ball market but I must confess to being slightly surprised of the popularity of Titleist clubs among all club types used by the best pros on the PGA Tour.

Titleist produces the most used golf clubs across all the main categories of golf clubs with the exception of fairway woods and putters.

But even in these categories Titleist is the second most popular brand with only 1 fewer player using its Scotty Cameron branded putters compared to Callaway’s Odyssey models.

Titleist’s dominance is evident however in every other club category and especially when it comes to wedges where their Vokey Design clubs are chosen 3 times as frequently compared to the next most popular wedge brands of PING and Cleveland.

The table below highlights the most used brands among the top 100 PGA Tour pros and as you can see Titleist’s dominance is very clear, as it was when we looked at the club brands being used by this elite group a couple of years ago.

We did though note two key points which have changed since then.

Firstly Srixon has become a more popular brand among the PGA Tour pros in that time, overtaking TaylorMade in terms of popularity and getting very close to the popularity levels of Callaway and PING when we take into account all the club categories.

And secondly PXG has fallen away by comparison with now none of the top 100 pros we looked at using any of their drivers, fairway woods, utility irons or irons compared to a few who were using them two years ago.

Golfing Focus infographic of the ranking of the brands of clubs played by the top 100 PGA Tour pros across all club types - drivers, woods, hybrids, driving irons, irons, wedges and putters.

Before you go …

Knowing what clubs the top PGA Tour pros are using is always interesting but with the swingspeeds of the average male pro typically being over 20mph faster than the average amateur golfer (114mph vs. 93.4mph ) there is possibly more to learn from the clubs being played by the best female pros.

Read our next article to find out what clubs the best LPGA pros are choosing with their 94mph average swingspeeds …

EA Sports PGA Tour: Does Buying Clubs Improve Your Stats?

Image of Ashley Anthony

EA Sports PGA Tour, the game where swinging is key to success and upgrading your Pro golfer enables the key. There are different ways to improve your golf game, and one would think upgrading from an EA Hammerhead to a Taylormade driver would improve and increase your driving range to get to the greens easily.

The most crucial part of golf is to get to the greens as quickly as possible and in the least amount of shots. With this in mind, many are asking the question, what improves when you buy new and better golf clubs?

EA Sports PGA Tour | Store | Drivers

To learn what happens when you buy a new driver, hybrid, iron, or putter in Road to the Masters, read below.

Shopping Around In the EA Sports PGA Tour Store

In the PGA Tour store, you’ll find all apparel, equipment, specs, and more. Here you will spend your Reward Points on purchases. Reward Points are accumulated through playing tournaments and completing challenges. There are golf clubs, ranging from drivers to irons to putters.

It is pretty expensive to purchase any of the items, as you will need a lot of Reward Points. Golf clubs are the same number of credits as buying a pair of Nike Airmax or a new golf bag, making the decision difficult. But what you need to keep in mind when shopping is, Reward Points come to you a lot easier when you are playing like a Pro.

EA Sports PGA Tour | store | Putters

Upgrading your golfer to improve your long and short game will allow you to play a better game of golf and receive more Reward Points quicker.

Now, before you make any purchases, you need to ask yourself what is more important: playing like a Pro or looking the part? Firstly, the apparel is inviting and makes you think twice about your purchases. Secondly, if you do not know what you are doing, you could end up making the wrong decision.

Does Buying Clubs Improve Your Stats in Road to the Masters?

Sadly, buying top-of-the-range golf clubs or other equipment does not improve your hitting stats in EA Sports PGA Tour Road to the Masters. The golf clubs, batting gloves, cleats, and all accessories are just for cosmetics and nothing more.

If you plan on spending your points in the game, hold out on buying any apparel or equipment. These items can be obtained by completing challenges. Instead, use your Reward Points on specs, which are meant for upgrading your clubs’ attributes.

EA Sports PGA Tour | Store | Specs

Specs can also be obtained by completing daily, weekly, and other quests. This creates a way to save your points and progress steadily. How I played it out, I purchased almost nothing while trying to complete all sponsorship challenges and side quests to help improve my golfer faster.

Pga tour 2k21 review: finally, a golf game that’s the best of both worlds.

  • Nick Menta ,

PGA TOUR 2K21 Key Art 1920x1080.jpg

“PGA Tour 2K21" is the deepest golf video game you’ve ever encountered.

That’s the benefit of giving an online community access to a custom course designer.

The rest – the official Tour, course and player licensing that’s been so heavily pushed in the marketing – is kind of just window dressing, albeit really attractive, sorely missed, nice-to-have-back window dressing.

Having spent the better part of the last week toying around with 2K21’s career mode, I can tell you that, judged as a PGA Tour simulation, this title returns golf gamers to the place where EA Sports left them previously. In that sense, we might actually consider it a push.

But if you take what gamers had before as a simulation and combine it with a full-blown course designer, then you have something else entirely. “PGA 2K21" is best judged then as the marriage of two features that had been previously kept separate.

As someone who’s been playing PGA Tour video games since 1999, this was the one thing I always wanted from EA Sports: the ability to create my own courses or to recreate courses that EA simply couldn’t license. Once I got that from HB Studios in “The Golf Club,” I found myself pining for what I had with EA: Tour branding, Tour pros, Tour courses.

This game, finally, has both.

EA’s long-running “Tiger Woods” title came to an end in 2013, and a rebooted offering headlined by Rory McIlroy was abandoned after a single release in 2015. That left gamers in the woods (no pun intended) for three years, after they’d grown accustomed to a yearly Tour release for two decades.

Filling the void was a lesser-known title, “The Golf Club,” from a lesser-known developer, HB Studios. “The Golf Club ” – a game focused on allowing users to create, play and share their own custom-designed golf courses – begat “The Golf Club 2" and what eventually came to be known as “The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA Tour.”

That was the turning point. And not to disparage it – because I certainly spent enough time playing it – but “The Golf Club 2019 ” is, in retrospect, a (really good) half-step, a bridge to where we are now. The game, developed like its previous iterations by HB but this time published by 2K, was the first to feature Tour branding in three years, since EA’s “McIlroy ” release. It came with seven real-world courses, including TPC Sawgrass and TPC Scottsdale, and served as a starting point.

“ 2K21 " is really the final product, the completed version of “2019.” It’s what gamers hoped to get when the PGA Tour decided to get back into the video game business, and it’s what they have now two years later.

Career mode

As mentioned at the top, the marketing of “2K21 " has focused on its licensing agreements – with the PGA Tour, with tournament sponsors, with a list of pros, with 15 real-world courses, and with equipment and apparel manufacturers. It’s worth running through it. Here’s the real-world stuff in the game:

Courses (and tournaments)

  • Atlantic Beach Country Club
  • Copperhead Course at Innisbrook (Valspar Championship)
  • East Lake Golf Club (Tour Championship)
  • Quail Hollow Club (Wells Fargo Championship)
  • Riviera Country Club (Genesis Invitational)
  • TPC Boston (The Northern Trust)
  • TPC Deere Run (John Deere Classic)
  • TPC Louisiana (Zurich Classic)
  • TPC River Highlands (Travelers Championship)
  • TPC San Antonio (Valero Texas Open)
  • TPC Sawgrass (The Players Championship)
  • TPC Scottsdale (Waste Management Phoenix Open)
  • TPC Southwind (WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational)
  • TPC Summerlin (Shriners Hospitals for Children Open)
  • TPC Twin Cities (3M Open)

PGA Tour pros

  • Patrick Cantlay
  • Cameron Champ
  • Bryson DeChambeau
  • Sergio Garcia
  • Billy Horschel
  • Matt Kuchar
  • Kevin Kisner
  • Ian Poulter
  • Justin Thomas
  • Gary Woodland

Equipment and apparel

  • Bridgestone
  • Jack Nicklaus
  • Polo Ralph Lauren
  • Royal and Awesome
  • Tattoo Golf
  • Under Armour

You encounter these elements by working your way through career mode. You play events, you earn in-game currency, you spend that currency on clubs and apparel to spruce up your create-a-golfer. If that sounds a little too familiar, that’s because it is; it is very much a return to the career mode players received from EA Sports.

The advancements are largely rooted in making the golf courses look like they do during Tour events; so you’re getting a digital replica of the stadium built around the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale, just as one example. HB has also made an effort to make your tournament rounds feel a little like a PGA Tour broadcast, as gameplay will occasionally cut to highlights of what other players – like JT or Bryson or Sergio – are doing on the course. This idea works better on paper than in practice, as the cut scenes add little, don’t seem to be influenced by anything you’re actually doing, and take too long to load.

The Tour pros featured in the game also need to feel more like active rivals and competitors than what they are now – also-rans. That you can’t play rounds as the featured pros is also worth mention.

It’s why I’m calling career mode a push; its’s a return to what users had from a Tour title years ago.

That said, it’s wonderful to have back with this level of detail, the courses look terrific, and I’ve been glued to it for a week.

Course designer (Hey, you, read this)

Separately, the course designer remains difficult. There’s a steep learning curve if you want to get good at it, and it’s straight up intimidating at first pass. But there’s a reason it’s complicated. It’s the same designer the HB Studios team uses to create the game.

Here’s the good news, and “Golf Club ” veterans already know this: Even if you’re unwilling to dive into the designer yourself, you get to free ride on the work of others. This is the important part – the part they can’t really advertise.

Are you the guy or girl going, “What? No Augusta? And mostly a just a bunch of TPCs?”

Pay attention.

No, Augusta National, Pine Valley, and Cypress Point are not officially in this game. But did users in TGC 2019 recreate these layouts – tee for tee, green for green, bunker for bunker, down to the very yard, down to the very tree – and upload them to the game’s servers?

Yes. Yes, they did.

You can find all sorts of real-world recreations, from major-championship venues like Merion and Oakmont and Pebble Beach and St. Andrews to even your local muni. It just depends how much time someone had on their hands and what they were motivated to build. If someone created a course in “2019,” they can import into “2K21.”

That’s why this is the deepest golf video game you’ve ever encountered. There’s no limit to what you or anyone else can add to it.

So where does the title go from here? HB Studios producer Shaun West told GolfChannel.com last month that while no official decision has been made on the timing of a future release, he sees the benefits of a two-year development cycle. And just like “PGA Tour 2K21 " built on the foundation laid by “The Golf Club 2019,” it’s his hope that game just keeps getting bigger and more detailed, becoming an even closer PGA Tour simulation.

Of course, we have “2K21 " to enjoy for the next couple years. There are users doing the Lord’s Work with the course designer, and there are online societies that organize their own tournaments and seasons. If you’re new to the series, welcome to the rabbit hole.

PGA Tour 2K21 is available on Playstation 4, XBOX One and XBOX One X, Windows PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch and Stadia

BEST NEW IRONS OF 2024

Callaway paradym ai smoke irons.

pga tour game best clubs

MODELS: Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke, Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast and Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL

NEED TO KNOW: Instead of lumping golfers in the game-improvement category into one group, Callaway’s R&D team let Artificial Intelligence take the lead in designing the face architecture on  Paradym Ai Smoke . Similar to the “swing code” found on the drivers, each iron face was created using AI to benefit specific swing speeds. The standard, hollow-body Ai Smoke is geared for moderate to high swing speeds — someone who carries their 7-iron 130 yards or more — with minimal distance loss on off-center strikes for a tighter downrange dispersion.

Recognizing not every golfer fits into a better-player profile, the Ai Smoke HL is designed around a more traditional cavity-back shape with more mass positioned lower in the head to induce a higher launch and more spin — roughly 750 RPMs — for moderate swing speeds that typically struggle to keep the ball in the air. Once again prioritizing a high launch and more spin, the lightweight Ai Smoke Max Fast adds an additional 2 degrees of launch and 500 RPMs, when compared to its HL counterpart. The goal behind lengthening the blade and concentrating mass low in the head is to make it incredibly easy to get the ball in the air with consistent carry numbers, regardless of impact location.

Cleveland ZipCore XL and Halo XL Full-Face Irons

pga tour game best clubs

MODELS: Cleveland ZipCore XL and Cleveland Halo XL Full-Face

NEED TO KNOW: Cleveland has aggressively positioned itself as a company making easy-to-hit clubs, designed for maximum fun and enjoyment of the game, and with both the ZipCore XL and Halo XL Full-Face irons , they’ve created two options to help golfers do just that.

Forgiveness where you need it and precision where you want it is at the heart of the ZipCore XL irons design. The longer 4-7-irons are equipped with Cleveland’s MainFrame technology that positions CNC grooves and channels on the back of the face to increase flex to help deliver more ball speed — especially on mishits. The looks of the Halo XL Full-Face irons are quick to grab anyone’s attention thanks to their hybrid-iron design to deliver maximum forgiveness and high launch. Also as the name suggests, the Full-Face irons feature full-face grooves for the first time in an iron design to create a larger effective hitting area to help maintain spin, and that’s to go along with the 20% larger striking area to further boost MOI.

Cobra Darkspeed and Air-X Irons

pga tour game best clubs

Cobra Darkspeed Irons

MODELS: Cobra Darkspeed, Cobra Darkspeed One Length and Cobra Air-X

NEED TO KNOW: To help provide golfers with distance, forgiveness and feel, the engineers at Cobra refined key technologies from the Darkspeed metal wood line (like PWR-Bridge) and shrunk them down to create the new Darkspeed irons. Then, to enhance the feel of the hollow-body design, they injected foam microspheres to fill the internal cavity to finely tune the acoustics. To help optimize ball flight and distance control through the set, Darkspeed irons offer what Cobra calls progressive TECFLO construction that transitions from a full-hollow design with PWR-Bridge and PWRSHELL in the longer 4-7-irons, to a full hollow-body with no face insert in the 8-PW. And, finally, to a half-hollow design in the gap and sand wedges.

What separates the PWR-Bridge of the woods from the irons is that the weight in the irons is suspended on a small post, which allows it to sit almost completely free floating within the hollow clubhead thanks to the supporting foam microspheres. This design allows for the precise positioning of the center of gravity for optimal launch while creating an improved face and sole that helps increase ball speed and launch.

Miura CB-302 Irons

pga tour game best clubs

MODELS: Miura CB-302

NEED TO KNOW: The new CB-302 builds on the lineage of the 301 with a redesigned sole and address profile to create a stronger flight and more forgiveness, along with less offset. The sole is a key piece of the 302 because at 19mm wide (in the 7-iron) it is the widest sole on an iron that has ever been produced at the Miura factory. The combination of the wide sole and deeper cavity positions more mass lower in the head to increase launch on shots hit lower on the face while the V-shape helps moves mass to the heel and toe to boost stability.

Last but certainly not least, to help golfers of all skill levels achieve a stronger more penetrating ball flight the lofts on the CB-302 fit into the modern player profile to reduce spin and deliver the highest level of trajectory control.

Mizuno Pro 24x Irons

pga tour game best clubs

MODELS: Mizuno Pro 241, Mizuno Pro 243 and Mizuno Pro 245

NEED TO KNOW: Mizuno Pro, a.k.a. Mizuno MP, irons have always been distinctive, and now for 2024 Mizuno is once again refining what it means to truly be a Mizuno Pro iron with the release of the 24X series, which includes the 241 blades, the 243 speed cavity and the 245 hollow body built for precision distance and Tour-level speed.

The biggest focus for the Mizuno design team with the new 24X line was to dig into what each iron truly means to the golfers it’s intended for, and after taking positive and constructive criticism about each model, the engineers went to work with no stone left unturned to make sure each model was a better fit. The Mizuno design team stressed every possible detail they could to make sure each model lived up to the lofty expectations bestowed upon them, and with that in mind, they believe they have delivered on those, while also making each iron slightly smaller than the previous generation.

Ping Blueprint S and T Irons

pga tour game best clubs

Ping Blueprint S Irons

MODELS: Ping Blueprint S and Ping Blueprint T

NEED TO KNOW: Ping isn’t one to release players’ irons very often, so when they do, there’s typically a big reason behind the change. In the case of the new Blueprint S and T irons , Ping designers felt that they had enough feedback from their stable of Tour players to create a new family of Blueprint irons. The goal, they said, was simple: to deliver a performance and control advantage over the previous generation.

Both the Blueprint T and S irons are one-piece forging, but what separates the pure blade design of the T from the S is what Ping designers call “precision pocket” forging. Precision pocket forging is a patented technique that allows Ping designers to forge a “pocket” into the cavity of the longer irons (3, 4 and 5-irons) to save 10 grams that can be repositioned around the head for increased stability on mishits. To go along with very similar address profiles, the Blueprint T and S irons share the same standard lofts as each other and Ping’s very popular i230 irons, which allows them to blend seamlessly from club to club when building a combo set.

PXG 0317 T Irons

pga tour game best clubs

MODELS: PXG 0317 T

NEED TO KNOW: The “T” is the first hollow-body iron PXG has introduced into their 0317 line. (Little info nugget: 0317 is the Military Occupational Specialty number for a scout sniper, which is used to identify PXG’s precision players iron line.) It used to be that the smaller hollow-body iron lived under the more game-improvement-focused 0311 line, but the release of the Gen6 series and the popularity of the 0317 ST and CB irons mean the smallest 0311 iron is officially dead and will now be part of the better player focused line moving forward.

The players iron category is well-defined by smaller head shapes and thinner toplines, and the designers at PXG understand this well. They have engineered the 0317 T iron in a way that helps it look smaller at address while still providing a boosted MOI (an extra 11% compared to the CB and 14% from the ST blade) and extra ball speed from the super-thin maraging steel face and injected hollow core. The 3X forged and milled body and robotic polishing process help dial in exact weights for each head to provide extremely tight tolerances right from manufacturing.

TaylorMade Qi Irons

pga tour game best clubs

MODELS: TaylorMade Qi and TaylorMade Qi HL

NEED TO KNOW: With the help of lessons learned from previous generations of game improvement clubs, TaylorMade is introducing the Qi irons , with which the company believes they have cracked the code on creating an iron that can go far, straight, and help golfers with the always annoying fade. To help bring these irons to life TaylorMade engineers brought together many technologies, including FLTD (flighted) CG, speed pocket, cap back, and an all-new organic face design process for straighter shots.

By using what TaylorMade calls Integrated System Design, the manufacturer was able to see how different technology variables impact how a golf club reacts at impact, allowing TM to tune each key technology for a better end ball flight. This comprehensive approach to design helps to ensure ideal gapping, ball speeds, launch angles, and ball flight through the full set. To go along with the core Qi irons, TaylorMade is also adding Qi HL irons to the lineup for 2024 to help golfers who struggle with getting the ball in the air and maintaining spin.

Titleist T-Series Irons (2023)

pga tour game best clubs

Titleist T-Series Irons

MODELS: Titleist T100, Titleist T150, Titleist T200 and Titleist T350

NEED TO KNOW: Like with the previous generation T-Series irons, there are four models to help golfers find the right performance fit based on Titleist’s 3D fittings principles: distance control, dispersion and descent. These three principles ensure that all golfers have the ability to get the most from their iron approach game, while also having what is known as a playable trajectory to help stop shots closer to the target. The models include the T100, a new T150, the T200 and a new T350 model for maximum forgiveness.

If there was one thing from the previous generation that Titleist and its players wanted, it was an improved feel at impact, and that was a huge focus of the development process. For the T100 and T150, that means an updated and slightly thicker back bar to produce a solid yet soft feel that has been validated by the best players in the world. For the T200 and T350, that feel improvement comes from a refined back cavity badge and redesigned max impact dampener.

MODELS: XXIO 13

NEED TO KNOW: As one of the leaders in the lightweight club space, XXIO has become a go-to option thanks, in large part, to specialized technologies designed solely for the set.

The four-piece, hollow-cavity XXIO 13 irons follow the same high launch blueprint as the woods with a tungsten-nickel sole weight (located on the toe-side of the sole on the 5- through 7-iron) pushing the CG lower in the head for launch purposes. XXIO’s Rebound Frame also adds ball speed to the Super-TIX 51 AF titanium face plate through alternating flex and rigid zones.

EA Sports PGA Tour Review - Hit The Links

  • First Released Apr 4, 2023 released

EA returns to the world of golf with a challenging and rewarding title that's let down by a couple of inconsistencies and an underwhelming swing mechanic.

By Richard Wakeling on April 12, 2023 at 10:55AM PDT

EA Sports PGA Tour is unlike any other golf game I've played. It still features familiar elements from the series' past--back when Tiger Woods was front and center--such as slow-motion heartbeat moments and climactic power shots. But after an eight-year hiatus from the world of golf simulation, EA has returned to the fairway with a more demanding recreation of the sport that's as much about feel as it is mastering the game's robust mechanics. With 30 courses covering all four majors--including The Masters at Augusta National--EA Sports PGA Tour has a plethora of golfing action to sink your teeth into. It's just a shame there are a few notable issues in critical areas that hold it back from greatness.

The first of these is the game's swing mechanic. If you've played a golf game before, the actual act of swinging a driver or 5-iron will be familiar. You pull down on the analog stick to bring the club back, then push forward again to unleash your shot. This has been a staple in golf games for a number of years now, and there aren't any alternatives at the moment--not until a three-click system is implemented in a later update. The issue with EA Sports PGA Tour is that there's a slight delay between your input and the on-screen visual. Your swing isn't 1:1, so there's an uneasy disconnect where you never quite feel like you're in total control. The general malaise of each swing doesn't help matters either, with the slow, clunky pacing and frustrating lag making it difficult to nail the timing and power of each shot. I eventually grew accustomed to these idiosyncrasies over time, but it never feels quite right and fails to capture the satisfaction that hitting a 300-yard tee shot should achieve.

To compound the issue, EA Sports PGA Tour also lacks any sort of meaningful tutorial. There are tooltips that pop up and cover the basics the first time you play, but these brief snippets barely scratch the surface of everything going on under the hood. Instead, the game has a suite of challenges that happen to include a Coaching Academy. This is the best place to start, even if these challenges still neglect to offer any tips or feedback to help you along the way. What you get is a variety of contextual situations covering different aspects of the sport, from putting downhill to dealing with elevation changes and the multitude of shot types on offer. There's a lot of trial and error involved, but the repetition of replaying each situation does give you a greater understanding of how everything works. It's not a very user-friendly approach, but it sets expectations and is genuinely helpful in an unconventional way, even if it might prove frustrating for some. Plus, completing these challenges also earns you XP that can be used to improve your created character.

EA Sports PGA Tour

EA Sports PGA Tour's career mode sits front and center, starting off with your no-name golfer competing in the qualifying school before moving on to the amateur Korn Ferry Tour. The ultimate goal is to reach the PGA Tour, which can be done either by winning one of the many four-round courses or by placing highly enough in the Korn Ferry rankings come season's end. You can expedite this process by opting for a quick play mode where you only need to play a few holes rather than an entire round, but I think playing full rounds is the way to go. That's mostly because it gives you ample time to fine-tune your skills, learn the courses, and gain a better understanding of the game's mechanics. There's also a palpable sense of progression that comes from leveling up your golfer. Earning XP lets you build your skills in driving, approach play, short game, and putting, while progressing each attribute also unlocks more shot types, giving you additional options when preparing to send the ball careening toward the green.

Fortunately, the Coaching Academy includes challenges for each of the game's myriad shot types, giving you the opportunity to see how each one functions before playing competitively. There's value in understanding the differences between a runner, spinner, or knock-down shot, but knowing when to utilize each one essentially comes down to a matter of feel. In this respect, EA Sports PGA Tour resembles the sport of golf more accurately than any other game. There are a number of variables at play for every single shot, to the point where there's a real thought process behind each swing. You have to choose the right shot type and club for each situation, adjust for wind and elevation, judge how much power you need to put into the swing, and account for the distinct ways each course plays--tweaking your shot shape depending on the shape of the fairway and lie of the bunkers. The game helps to some degree by displaying relevant information such as wind speed and distance, but then you're left to your own devices. This can be frustrating, particularly early on when you're still learning the ropes and your golfer's attributes aren't up to snuff, but once everything clicks, EA Sports PGA Tour plays an engrossing game of golf that can be incredibly rewarding.

Much of this is down to the courses themselves. Every single one of the 30 officially licensed courses is staggeringly beautiful and offers an authentic attention to detail, whether it's Liberty National and its view of the Manhattan skyline, the waves crashing against the sand at Pebble Beach, or the alligators lurking in the water at TPC Sawgrass. Almost every course is iconic on some level, and they've all been faithfully rendered and recreated, right down to individual blades of grass. The absence of a course designer is a tad disappointing, but unlike PGA Tour 2K23, it's not something that feels like a necessity because there are already so many 18-hole delights. The courses are the game's main character, providing the kind of variety and depth to stave off any tedium. Mastering a golf game's mechanics is usually the key to success, but EA Sports PGA Tour's courses demand much more from you. Each one plays differently, whether it's the roll of the green or the width of the fairway impacting your decision-making. It genuinely feels like you're playing against the course rather than the shot meter.

EA Sports PGA Tour

The physics model, which is built around the official TrackMan data for ball tracking and swing analysis, is excellent for the most part. However, there are some inconsistencies when it comes to ball rollout. On The Old Course at St Andrews, for instance, the rollout is overly extreme to the point where the ball will roll uphill at pace, even through heavy rough. This forces you to account for situations that shouldn't really occur. Once you land on the green, putting is also equally aggravating for different reasons. Each green contains a grid that uses moving beads to show you the direction of the break. The problem is that sometimes this data is inaccurate and the break is opposite to what the beads are showing. The putt reader alleviates this somewhat by showing the ideal path to the hole, but this is also misleading at times. With no reliable way to gauge the breaks, putting is a lesson in irritation that will only be rectified if these issues are fixed in future updates.

Outside of career mode, EA Sports PGA Tour also features various tournament options for use in online matches against the community. If you want to play against friends, however, stroke play is the only option, and there's a disappointing lack of alternating play for those who want to see each other tee off. A range of daily, weekly, and seasonal tournaments give you another chance to earn XP and items like club specs and in-game cash for a limited time before they're refreshed, so there's an incentive to keep coming back. That in-game cash can be spent in a store of rotating items including various cosmetics, which holds some appeal because the character creator is extremely barebones. Outfitting your golfer in branded clothing can be fairly costly, though, which is explained by the inclusion of microtransactions for those who would rather buy the in-game currency with real money. This isn't a surprising move, but it doesn't exactly vibe with the serene mood.

After almost a decade away from the sport, EA's return to the golf course is a promising one. The range of shot types, courses, and tangible variables make for a methodical and tactical game of golf that's both challenging and rewarding. It stumbles by barely introducing players to its robust mechanics, while a laggy swing and inconsistent putting are notable flaws on what is otherwise a fantastic golf sim. EA Sports PGA Tour represents a solid re-entry for the series and lays down a sturdy foundation for an auspicious future.

  • Leave Blank
  • Each shot must be carefully considered, taking into account a number of variables
  • All 30 courses are wonderfully recreated and each one feels distinct
  • Offers a tough but satisfying simulation of golf that's close to the real thing
  • The lack of tutorials makes for a rocky start
  • Swing mechanics are delayed and create a disconnect
  • Putting information is frequently misleading

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Adds 2 New Games, One With Amazing Reviews

The latest Xbox Game Pass update adds one critically acclaimed game inspired by The Legend of Zelda, as well as an Ultimate-tier title.

  • EA Sports PGA Tour is now available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
  • Xbox Game Pass has also added Lil Gator Game, a critically acclaimed action adventure inspired by the open-world Zelda games.
  • The final April 4 change to Microsoft's subscription catalog concerns Turbo Golf Racing, which is about to receive a massive content update that will officially mark its departure from the Game Preview program.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has added Lil Gator Game and EA Sports PGA Tour to its content library. Aside from this pair of arrivals, another Xbox Game Pass title is leaving the Game Preview program today, meaning it's about to receive a rather substantial 1.0 update.

EA Sports PGA Tour and Lil Gator Game bring the total number of April 2024 additions to Microsoft's subscription service up to six. Xbox Game Pass has already added LEGO 2K Drive , Superhot: Mind Control Delete , F1 23 , and Ark: Survival Ascended since the turn of the month.

April 15 Is Going to Be a Sad Day for Xbox Game Pass Horror Fans

Of the new releases at hand, only Lil Gator Game is available across all tiers of the service bar Xbox Game Pass Core. Meanwhile, EA Sports PGA Tour requires the EA Play add-on, which is an exclusive perk of the Ultimate-tier subscription. That said, the more widely available of the two titles also happens to be the more critically acclaimed one, as Lil Gator Game presently boasts Metacritic Metascores ranging from 80 to 84, while EA Sports PGA Tour 's ratings are in the mid-70s. Likewise, while EA's golf sim has "Mixed" user reviews on Steam, Lil Gator Game 's player impressions on Valve's platform are in the "Overwhelmingly Positive" territory, with many fans proclaiming it to be one of the best open-world action platformers in recent memory.

New Xbox Game Pass Games in April 2024

Although Lil Gator Game has clearly been designed with the youngest audiences in mind, it still promises an adventure that can be enjoyed by all ages. That's partially because this MegaWobble-developed title takes a lot of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda series, especially its recent open-world entries. So, while the ultimate goal of the game is to decorate a cozy island and find some friends to play with, those fairly low stakes are still charmingly framed like an epic adventure, as if viewed through the eyes of a child.

Xbox Game Pass Game Turbo Golf Racing Leaves Early Access Today

Besides Lil Gator Game and EA Sports PGA Tour , the April 4 Xbox Game Pass catalog update is also adding the 1.0 version of Turbo Golf Racing . First released in August 2022 as an early access title, this hectic experience is finally ready to leave the XGP Game Preview program, with its 1.0 patch being set to kick off Season 4: Launch Party. The new season offers 40 rewards, ten extra levels, and a new version of golf mode for eight players, among other novelties. Although Turbo Golf Racing is reminiscent of Rocket League , its core gameplay actually revolves around conventional racing instead of arena-based shenanigans.

Moving forward, at least seven more titles will reach Xbox Game Pass before the end of the month. The first of those arrivals will be Kona and Botany Manor , both of which are scheduled to be added to Microsoft's game library on April 9.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the highest tier of Microsoft's flagship game subscription service that offers over 100 game titles that you can play with a single purchase, making it one of the most outstanding value propositions of the Xbox ecosystem to date.

2024 Masters one and done picks, DFS lineups, fantasy golf projections, sleepers, longshots by top expert

Mike mcclure locked in his expert pga golf picks, daily fantasy lineups, fantasy golf projections and sleepers for masters 2024 at augusta national.

usatsi-justin-thomas-cbs.jpg

The 2024 Masters will begin on Thursday, April 11, at Augusta National Golf Club. The most highly-anticipated golf major received a boost with news that Tiger Woods will play. The five-time green jacket winner had to withdraw from the 2024 Genesis Invitational after contracting the flu, but was spotted playing a practice round with Augusta chairman Fred Ridley and Justin Thomas the week prior to the 88th Masters. Woods has made the cut at Augusta National every time he has played since 1997, when he beat Tom Kite by a staggering 12 shots to win his first of 15 major championships. Woods is still the biggest draw in golf, but can you trust his health enough to use him in Masters DFS lineups and move him up the Masters Fantasy golf rankings?

Should you instead rely on more currently dominant players like Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm? Before locking in your 2024 Masters one and done picks, DFS lineups and fantasy golf projections, you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say .

McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his  golf picks . He is up almost $9,500 on his best bets since the restart.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

McClure has been on fire with his One and Done picks in 2024. At The American Express, he backed Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. At the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place. Finally, at the Arnold Palmer Invitation, another signature event, McClure recommended using Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed McClure's picks has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure has dialed in on the 2024 Masters golf tournament and just locked in his one and done picks, DFS projections and Fantasy Golf predictions. They are a must-see for any player looking for an edge. You can only see McClure's Masters 2024 one and done picks, DFS lineups and Fantasy Golf plays at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters One and Done picks

One of McClure's top One and Done picks for the Masters is Brooks Koepka. The 33-year-old has a proven track record of success against elite fields with his most recent major championship victory coming at the 2023 PGA Championship. Koepka has five total major championships in his career, and he is widely considered to be the premier big event player of his generation.

Koepka has yet to notch a win at Augusta National, but he has a long history of high finishes at the iconic course. In eight starts at the Masters, Koepka has four top-11 finishes, including second place finishes in both 2019 and 2023. McClure is also recommending using a player who is almost a 50-1 longshot in One and Done pools.  You can see who else to back at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters DFS picks, lineup advice

One golfer McClure is targeting in his DFS lineups is Justin Thomas. The 30-year-old is already a 15-time PGA Tour winner with two wins at the PGA Championship under his belt and is widely regarded as one of the best ball-strikers of his generation. Thomas ranks fifth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approaching the green and has been top 10 in that stat seven of the last eight years.

Augusta National Golf Club is a ball-striker's haven, with dramatically undulating greens that require precise iron play into the correct tier. That's a big reason why Thomas has made the cut in seven of his eight starts at the Masters, earning a solo fourth in 2020 and a eighth-place finish in 2022. Thomas has five top-12 finishes in eight PGA Tour starts this season after shockingly missing the FedEx Cup playoffs in 2023.  You can see the rest of McClure's Masters DFS picks at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters Fantasy Golf picks, projections

One of McClure's top fantasy golf picks is Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 has been red-hot in 2024, and nearly won his third consecutive tournament, finishing one stroke off the lead at the Houston Open. In eight starts in 2024, Scheffler has two outright wins and seven top-10 finishes.

Scheffler has had plenty of success at Augusta National, winning the Masters in 2022 and finishing 10th in 2023. He is ranked first on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (2.812), strokes gained tee-to-green (2.798), and strokes gained on approach (1.347), and fourth in strokes gained off the tee (0.903) and strokes gained around the green (0.547).  You can see the rest of McClure's Masters fantasy golf picks at SportsLine .

How to make Masters 2024 picks, long shot bets

McClure is also targeting targeting six other golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the green jacket. You can find out who they are, and check out all of McClure's Masters picks and best bets at SportsLine .

Who will win the Masters 2024, and which golfers should you target for your PGA one and done picks, DFS lineups, and Fantasy Golf plays this week at Augusta National Golf Club? Who has the most career wins on the PGA Tour ? Let's examine the five winningest golfers in PGA Tour history and their incredible trophy cases.

Tiger Woods , 82 WINS

With a victory at the Zozo Championship on Oct. 27, 2019, Woods won his 82nd PGA Tour victory, tying the record held by Sam Snead. His first PGA Tour win came 23 years earlier, on Oct. 6, 1996, at the Las Vegas Invitational. In Woods' fifth start as a pro, he beat Davis Love III in a sudden-death playoff. Woods holds the record for most consecutive weeks as the No. 1 golfer in the world and the record for most total weeks at No. 1. Woods is an 11-time PGA Player of the Year, which is also a record. He won 15 major championships, trailing only Jack Nicklaus' 18. Woods was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2021. For more on Woods' decades-long dominance, check out this breakdown of his PGA Tour victories .

Sam Snead , 82 WINS

Snead's longevity was extremely impressive, as his career spanned 30 years and he competed well into his 60s. In the 1965 Greater Greensboro Open, the 52-year-old became the oldest golfer to win a PGA Tour tournament -- a record he still holds today. Snead won 82 PGA Tour events and seven majors. He was the PGA Golfer of the Year in 1949 and a three-time PGA Tour money list winner. He earned the PGA Tour's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

Jack Nicklaus , 73 WINS

Jack Nicklaus was widely regarded as the greatest golfer in the world during the 1960s and 1970s. He continued winning majors in the 1980s - with his final victory coming at 46 years old. Nicklaus holds the record for most major championships (18) and most Masters (six), and he's tied for the most PGA Championships (five) and U.S. Opens (four). "The Golden Bear" also finished as a runner-up 19 times in majors. From 1970 to 1979, Nicklaus never finished worse than eighth at the Masters. In 44 majors over that span, he missed just one cut. Nicklaus was a five-time PGA Player of the Year and the PGA Tour's money list winner 8 times. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

Ben Hogan , 64 WINS

Hogan won nine majors -- tied for fourth most all time -- and he's one of only five golfers to win all four major championships. Hogan was a four-time PGA Player of the Year. In 1943, Hogan was drafted and joined the U.S. Army and over the next three years, he rose to the rank of second lieutenant. In 1946, he returned to the PGA Tour and won 13 events. Hogan was named the AP's Male Athlete of the Year in 1953 and inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

Arnold Palmer , 62 WINS

Palmer was a fan favorite who helped golf skyrocket in popularity. He won seven majors -- with all his victories coming between 1958 and 1964 -- and he was the first golfer to win four Masters. Palmer was a two-time PGA Player of the Year and a four-time PGA Tour money list winner. He earned the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. Palmer also launched many products, owned and designed golf courses, and co-founded The Golf Channel.

How it works: Each week, our experts from PGATOUR.COM will make their selections in PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf. Each lineup consists of four starters and two bench players that can be rotated after each round. Adding to the challenge is that every golfer can be used only three times per each of four Segments.

Aside from the experts below, Golfbet Insider Rob Bolton breaks down the field at the Valero Texas Open in this week's edition of Power Rankings .

Betting picks

WILL GRAY (Lead, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Billy Horschel (+3300) – The former Gator is heating up. Horschel rallied for a top-10 result in Houston, his third top-12 in his last four starts, and his Valero history includes three previous top-five finishes.
  • Longshot: Kevin Yu (+12500) – He’s been feast-or-famine this year, mixing missed cuts and unexpected top-10s. Here’s hoping he leans more toward the latter this week on a course that should emphasize his ball-striking skills.
  • Top 10: Corey Conners (+225) – Does he have a key to the city yet? If not it might be in the mail. The two-time champ is a great fit for a difficult track, and his 2024 results have been solid enough to believe he’ll be in the mix.
  • Head-to-Head (H2H): Aaron Rai (-110) over Beau Hossler – The “Fade Beau” operation continues, as I’ve (profitably) opposed Hossler each of the last two weeks and it’s the only area where I’m not bleeding units. Give me Rai, who enters off a top-10 in Houston and has a pair of top-30s here over the last two years.

BEN EVERILL (Senior writer, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Byeong Hun An (+3300) – Three top 21s in his last four starts. Two top-10s in his last three Valero Texas Open starts. Sits 25th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, second in birdie average, and has great proximity from outside 250 yards. Just need to hope his focus doesn’t wander to next week early.
  • Longshot: Ryan Moore (+12500) – This veteran has three Valero top-10s and a recent T5 at the Valspar Championship. Ranks fourth on TOUR in SG: Approach and 12th in SG: Tee-to-Green. Only his putter is holding him back.
  • Top 10: Corey Conners (+225) – The defending champion has the perfect game for this place as evidenced by his multiple wins. I’ll take a conservative finish this season despite the fact another win would not be a shock.
  • H2H: Corey Conners (-120) over Collin Morikawa – Conners is a collector of cowboy boots at this event, winning twice. Morikawa has been below his best this season.

CHRIS BREECE (Senior Content Manager Golfbet)

  • Winner: Matt Fitzpatrick (+2800) – It feels like we keep waiting for him to have a big week. 2024 has been all over the map, but I’m hoping his top five at THE PLAYERS lit a spark.
  • Top 10: Hideki Matsuyama (+200) – His worst finish in his last four events is T22. I like the fact he’s rested after THE PLAYERS.
  • Longshot: Erik van Rooyen (+6600) – Two top 10s in his last four starts.
  • H2H: Aaron Rai (-110) over Beau Hossler – Rai played well last week. He has three top-25s in his last five starts.

MATT DELVECCHIO (Social content manager, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Keith Mitchell (+5500) – Mitchell seems like he has a win right around the corner. T20 in five out of 10 starts this year with most notably his stumble on Sunday at the Valspar. His game is ready to win especially at TPC San Antonio, ranking 10th in SG: Approach and first in Ball Striking on the year.
  • Longshot: Erik van Rooyen (+6600) – Probably the hottest golfer in the world between Vidanta and Bay Hill, I’m expecting van Rooyen to break through soon this season. He makes birdies in bunches (19th in birdie or better percentage) and avoids the bad numbers (17th in bogey avoidance). Two attributes that should do him well this week in Texas.
  • Top 10: Rory Mcilroy (+120) – Chalking the top 10 this week because I think Rory is in fantastic form and will do well this week as he gets ready for his chase at the Green Jacket. I don’t think he wins but still has a great week resulting in a high finish.
  • H2H: Corey Conners (-120) vs Morikawa – Corey checks all the boxes this week. Morikawa’s game has been a work in progress so far in 2024.

    6. SolarSurfer7. • 3 yr. ago. For me, I can hit almost all drivers, irons, and hybrids well. But the high distance 3 woods are really tough to hit, so I've gone with a more forgiving 3 wood. Skyfury is great to take shortcuts on holes & usually help on those long par 5's so u can at least have a chance to chip in for albatross. But other holes, the skyfury isn't as ideal.
