Time travel

Time Travel is the act of moving forwards or backwards against the natural flow of time. Rick had made some breakthroughs in this science, as he had a box labeled "Time travel stuff" on the shelf in his makeshift laboratory/garage.

Biography [ ]

In the episode Something Ricked This Way Comes , Needful Things sold a pair of boxing gloves that would make the wearer into a heavyweight champion. They were cursed so that the wearer would be transported to a championship fight in the year 1936, and forced to relive it for eternity. Rick offered to uncurse them into a pair of time-traveling mittens at Curse Purge Plus! but he closed down the store before they could be uncursed.

In the episode A Rickle in Time , time was still frozen from the previous episode and had been for the equivalent of six months. When time was unfrozen, Rick, Morty , and Summer were unable to touch anyone or anything for a while, or else a paradox would ensue. This rule was quickly broken and time started to split in two and eventually multiply throughout the episode. Each version of time was slightly different, with differences such as Morty and Summer switching places, and they had to control the places they went in order to fuse time back together again.

A Fourth Dimensional Being who has the ability to time travel appeared in this episode and threatened to put Rick in Time Prison for abusing time but Rick beat him up and sent him back into time travel mode, sending him back into a different time period. In the mid-credits scene, he and another Fourth Dimensional Being were seen inside of a giant bubble which would teleport to a bunch of different time eras as fast as a click. They went looking for Rick and attempted to beat him up, but came across Albert Einstein . Thinking Einstein was Rick by mistake, they beat him up and told him not to mess with time. This caused Einstein to write his famous equation, vowing that he will mess with time.

Time travel also played a major role in Rattlestar Ricklactica . When Morty brought Slippy to the Snake Planet , it caused a chain of events that lead to the Space Snakes inventing time travel, with mechanical snakes going back in time in an attempt to kill Morty. A robot sent by the snake resistance was also sent back to aid the Smiths in defending Morty. Morty thought he was doing the right thing, but Rick said that Morty had showed them that there was something bigger and scarier to unite against, which caused them to invent time travel while attempting to kill someone who can't let a dead snake be dead even after it bit his ankle.

This commotion forced Rick and Morty to go to the Snake Planet and invent time travel for them. After going through hordes of snakes, they soon find out that they had not invented the time machine yet. Just as Rick was trying to think it out, the future selves of both him and Morty, the latter having a black eye, give their past selves the equipment needed to do so, all while insulting them. Now with the equipment, combined with snake disguises, Rick and Morty travel back to 1985 in snake time, walk into the Snake MIT, and lay out a book containing the instructions for time travel, before removing themselves from the story.

After they left, a snake scientist and his colleagues find the book, and build a time machine. They send a student back to 1865 to prevent the assassination of Snake Abraham Lincoln, giving him a letter that told him to duck, just as Snake John Wilkes Booth attempted to shoot him. The student was successful, but it was revealed that the consequences of Snake Lincoln's survival on the timeline somehow led to a Snake Nazi victory, which caused the student to grab a chainsaw and go back in time one more, this time to Snake Berlin, where Snake Adolf Hitler was giving off a speech. Snake Hitler leaves to take a shower, when a bunch of snakes traveled to that time period to either kill or protect him, fighting amongst themselves as Snake Hitler stares out in confusion.

Back on Earth, time travel was growing more erratic, as a snake-human hybrid came back in time in an attempt to save Jerry . Jerry, thinking that it was a robot from Rick, kicks it into a plane, causing the plane to crash and him to safely grab a tree. Meanwhile, Beth and Summer were still fighting a nigh-endless army of time traveling snakes. Morty was, at first, horrified at this, but Rick knew what would happen.

In the Fourth Dimensional Time Cop Headquarters , Shlemmypants receives a phone call talking about the catastrophe going on. So, he and another time cop go back into the Snake Planet's prehistory, where a caveman snake weilding a club was dragging another snake, when the two time cops came and proceeded to beat it up and kill it, hindering their advancements. Back on Earth, the snakes began to disappear as a result of killing the first tool-using snake, the snakes that were still alive writhed in pain before eating their own tails against their will.

Rick and Morty go inside the house, only to once again be interrupted by their future selves, who were once again rude to them, putting their Santa hats on them and giving them the needed equipment before taking their place. After working on the needed objects, Rick and Morty go back in time to give their past selves the needed equipment, but not before Rick punches Morty, therefore giving him the black eye and closing the time loop.

In The Vat of Acid Episode , Morty assumes that the time-saving device Rick built for him used time travel only for Rick to reveal that the device actually shunted him across various realities. According to Rick, he doesn't respect time travel because he's not interested in anything that Ant-Man and the Wasp did.

  • Despite saying this, time travel was included in the pilot episode as Rick both "went to a future dimension" to retrieve medicine to heal Morty's broken leg, and "spent so much time there that his portal gun ran out of charge", but returned in a matter of seconds.
  • They did, however say that although they wouldn't time travel , they will be time bending in season 2 of Rick and Morty .
  • Although not directly used by Rick and Morty, time travel was used in the episode A Rickle in Time , when the Fourth Dimensional Being used it to find Rick.
  • This does make it curious, however, that the asteroid location of Jerryboree in Mortynight Run is described as cross-temporal.
  • In Season 3 episode The ABC's of Beth Rick states he did not use time travel to get pizzas from Arnaldo's.
  • The creator's statement was ultimately broken in Rattlestar Ricklactica since time travel was a major storyline in this episode.

‘Rick and Morty’ Season 4 Will Tackle Series’ Oldest Time Travel Plot Hole

It's time to un-shelf "time travel stuff."

time travel stuff box

One of the longest gags in Rick and Morty ’s run has to do with a cardboard box sitting on the shelf in Rick’s workshop labeled “time travel stuff.” Co-creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have a long-standing rule to not mess around with time travel , so they put that box in the garage as an in-joke reminder, but in the upcoming Season 4 — due out this November — that’s all about to change.

Rick and Morty Season 4 will use time travel, or at the very least grapple with a bit of a plot hole established in the  pilot episode  about how Rick’s inter dimensional portals relate to the flow of time in a way that feels like time dilation.

During a Friday panel at San Diego Comic-Con , Harmon and Roiland — along with other stars and creatives from the show — spoke about the new season and debuted an exclusive scene from an upcoming episode. As part of the proceedings, Harmon admitted, “We never messed with time travel after the pilot, but we do in Season 4.”

rick and morty pilot broken morty

Morty, irate at Rick for letting him get so injured.

Harmon didn’t specifically expand upon what he was referring to, but the only instance that could apply happens after poor Morty fails to activate his grav boots on an alien world when trying to descend a cliff. He winds up breaking every bone in his legs. Rick uses his portal gun to go into a “future dimension” where they have “broken-leg serum at every corner drug store.” Everyone in that dimension was young, making Rick a source of fascination for all the “young ladies.” (You do the math.)

Traveling back consumed the rest of the Portal gun’s charge, establishing that not only does this technology allow Rick to traverse across different alternate timelines, but it also allows him to move forward — and probably backward — in time. (This is also why they must travel through inter dimensional customs.)

rick and morty time travel stuff

The "time travel stuff" box has been featured on the shelf in the garage many times.

This method of travel hasn’t been featured on the show since. In fact, twice Rick would rather migrate into an alternate dimension at the same point in time rather than travel back in time. And that’s just the only times we’ve seen. We have no way of knowing how many times Rick has done this, but the way he talks about the multiverse makes it seem like he has infinite Mortys and Beths and realities to choose from.

We don’t know much just yet about how Season 4 might incorporate this method of travel, but it’s bound to cause all sorts of unique problems in the new season.

Rick and Morty Season 4 premieres in November on Adult Swim.

Rick And Morty Theory: Rick Prime Is A Time Traveler

Rick Prime talking to Jerry

While "Rick and Morty"  prides itself on standalone adventures, it's also developed serialization with recurring characters and deep lore. For years, Evil Morty seemed to be the endgame, but now, many fans have turned their attention to the ever-elusive Rick Prime. He's the one responsible for killing the main Rick's family, and he's been on the hunt for him ever since.

Viewers saw just how far Rick was willing to go to take down Rick Prime in Season 6 , even going so far as to build a robot to spend time with his family while he exists in a subterranean lair looking for him. Unfortunately, Rick Prime always seems to be one step ahead, and some fans have created theories to explain why that's the case. And it comes down to one sci-fi technique Rick doesn't respect — time travel.

Redditor u/bigblackchungus1 wrote, "Rick Prime is a time traveler Rick, Rick C-137 is the Rick that invents portal travel, thus creating the finite curve. Rick Prime exists in multiple places and times because they are all time paradoxes." It would also explain why Rick has a box of "Time Travel Stuff" in his garage. Perhaps he wanted to use it to track down Rick Prime but didn't want to be the one inadvertently responsible for giving Rick Prime the time travel tech in the first place.

It's hard to track down someone who can go backwards in time

"Rick and Morty" has used time travel in the past, but it's obvious Rick doesn't respect the device. This could all come down to another fan theory that Rick is afraid Rick Prime is actually him from the future. That would mean he's ultimately the one responsible for Diane and Beth's deaths. To avoid such a scenario, he's placed his time travel gear in a box in the garage so that he can't use it.

Regardless, it certainly makes sense Rick Prime would utilize time travel, and it would explain the Season 6 finale, where he's seemingly everywhere at the same time. In a separate Reddit thread, u/Alert-Artichoke-2743 offered another suggestion to the theory, "Rick C-137 doesn't respect time travel and won't use it, so he was of course unable to even pursue somebody who fled forward (or backwards?) through time, basically not existing during many of the years of C-137's life." That's why Rick has needed to dedicate all of his resources to finding another way to trap Rick Prime so that he's in the same dimension and time period as him.

There is one catch to this theory, as u/Hugh_Jazzin_Ditz writes, "The time cops would bend Rick Prime over." The existence of the Time Cops does make things tricky for using time travel going forward, but Rick Prime is such a genius, he could probably find some way to skirt their authority. With "Rick and Morty" going up to at least 100 episodes, there are plenty more opportunities for the writers to have fun with Rick's hunt for vengeance.

Screen Rant

Perfect rick & morty theory explains why rick doesn’t like time travel.

Rick C-137 has made it clear that he doesn't respect time travel, and one Rick and Morty fan theory claims it is for a rather dark reason.

Rick Sanchez is not a fan of time travel, and one genius Rick and Morty theory explains why. Over the course of five seasons, audiences have come to learn a list of things Rick is not fond of, including but not limited to bureaucracy, family therapy, Jerry, and time travel. As the self-righteous, narcissist character Rick is, he has an explanation as to why he does not like each of those things.

For a show where science fiction seems to know no bounds, Rick and Morty deals little with time travel. This has to do with the fact that Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, creators of Rick and Morty , believe that time travel can be a rather tricky Pandora's box when added to a story. That said, the show cannot escape the concept of time travel, mainly because of how often that intersects with the alternate realities and multiverse themes so common to Rick and Morty . That is why it has to be possible to find an in-universe explanation for why Rick, as a character, does not like time travel.

In season 4, episode 8, “The Vat of Acid”, Rick offers an explanation as to why he does not respect time travel: “if Ant-Man and the Wasp can do it, I’m not interested” . However, according to a fan theory (via Reddit ), there is actually a much deeper explanation for Rick’s grudge against time travel. Rick C-137 has been searching for the Rick who killed Diane and Beth for a long time – and since he hasn't found him, there's a chance this is the case because he did it, and not an  alternate universe Rick . According to the theory, not having his own time machine and not time traveling often is how Rick can be certain he is not guilty.

Rick Could Create A Time Machine At Any Time – But Avoids To

Considering all the inventions that Rick has come up with, putting a time machine together is an easy task. In fact, in “Rattlestar Ricklactica”, Rick and Morty have to ensure that the snake society eventually (re)discovers time travel, and the duo quickly build their own time machine to solve the problem. Rick also has the infamous “time travel stuff” box in his garage, meaning he has at least a few tools to create a time machine of his own whenever he wants.

That said, it does not seem like Rick’s Portal Gun was ever equipped with specific time-travel technology. While the full extent of the Portal Gun’s powers is still a mystery, there was never a moment in Rick and Morty in which the Portal Gun was explicitly used for time travel. While one could argue Rick and Morty ’s pilot featured Rick opening a portal to the future to find a quick cure for Morty’s broken legs, Rick specifically uses the term “future dimension” in the episode, rather than just “future” , which seems specifically worded to emphasize the fact that Rick isn't going to their own universe's future.

There are many times that Rick has the opportunity to solve a problem with time travel across the course of the show, but specifically chooses not to. In “The ABC’s of Beth,” for example, he goes through a portal to order pizzas in some universe where their favorite place is still open and returns with the pizzas in hand immediately. However, Rick's meta commentary has him make it clear to the audience that it was not time travel, and that he simply stole the pizzas from the counter. In “The Vat of Acid,” the device that allowed Morty to “reset” events was not actually messing with time, but rather just moving Morty across different realities.

Rick & Morty Already Broke Its No “Time Travel Rule” (But Not With Rick)

Despite the evident unwritten rule against time travel, Rick and Morty has dealt with that concept more than once. In “Something Ricked This Way Comes”, one of the many artifacts sold from the Needful Things store was a pair of gloves that transports the user to 1936. In the Rick and Morty season 2 premiere, “A Rickle in Time”, Rick, Morty, and Summer have to deal with the consequences of having frozen time at the end of season 1. Of course, their carelessness leads to time cracking itself and splitting into multiple timelines. The group’s influence over time was such that the Time Cop Shleemypants had to step in and put Rick in a Time Prison, which confirmed that time travel was an established and common thing in the world of Rick and Morty . Time travel would once again be at the center of a storyline in the aforementioned "Rattlestar Ricklactica", an episode that revolved around a snake society inventing time travel. However, on all these occasions, Rick never deliberately chose to travel through time – let alone carry a time machine with him.

Why Rick Really Doesn’t Like Time Travel: Theory Explained

Rick can be quite stubborn when he does not like something, but simply not respecting time travel does not seem like enough reason to justify avoiding using that resource on all the occasions it could have helped. Rick seems to have a very clear, personal reason for being against time travel, and the fan theory previously mentioned explains this perfectly. Rick could actually be terrified of the idea that it is a future version of himself that killed his family, and the only way he can guarantee that this is not the case is to avoid using time travel as much as possible.

If having a time machine and going to the past and future becomes as common for Rick as interdimensional travel is in Rick and Morty , then there is no guarantee for him that he is not the one responsible for the deaths of Diane and Beth. It is worth noting that Rick never used his scanner - the one he uses to test if a Rick is the murderer-Rick he is looking for - on himself in the course of the show. That means that the possibility that it was C-137 himself who killed Diane and Beth, while unlikely, is not entirely ruled out – thus adding to the theory that Rick wants to avoid time travel at any cost to keep making sure he is not the one who did it. Of course, simply scanning himself would bring up that answer a lot quicker, but perhaps that is one of the few pieces of knowledge in Rick and Morty that Rick C-137 is not ready to have.

Subscriptions for Coffee & Tea-Lovers

Best Travel Subscription Boxes for Coffee Connoisseurs & Tea Lovers

Trivia time: Over 70 countries around the world grow coffee, and even more have their own distinct coffee culture.  While four countries produce over 60% of the world’s coffee – Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia — there are so many more waiting to be explored.   Tea is even more popular than coffee, second only to water as the most-consumed drink in the world.

Atlas Coffee Club

Every box includes a curated selection of single-origin coffee with tasting notes and brewing tips. Atlas Coffee is roasted-to-order, so it always ships fresh right after roasting. Plus, each box includes a postcard from the coffee’s origin and a bag design inspired by local landscapes and textiles (so you can imagine yourself there as you sip away!). This holiday season, I think Atlas Coffee is a thoughtful travel gift for coffee-loving travelers, especially those working from home or dreaming of future adventures.

Spring Nails: The Ultimate Guide to Have The Best Spring Nails

Rick and morty ‘time travel objects’ chest has a dark secret purpose.

Rick and Morty’s Time Travel Stuff box appears in the background of many episodes, but it has an ingenious secret purpose that you’ll never guess.

Eagle eyes lovers Rick and Morty Know that since the show’s early days, Rick’s Lab has featured a box titled “Time Travel Stuff,” which appears in the background of many episodes. This is despite the fact that the writers originally intended not to use time travel as a plot tool. However, while this rule was eventually broken, the “Time Travel Stuff” chest has an entirely different purpose – one that has nothing to do with actual time travel, and everything to do with Rick’s unique demonic form.

It was originally created as a parody of Back to the future in the wake of a young boy chatting with a disgraced and volatile world, Rick and Morty However, co-creator Dan Harmon didn’t want time travel to be included in the franchise, explaining to fans that it could break a show’s canon to introduce a versatile idea. That changed with Season 4 of Rattlestar Ricklactica – a candid story about the unintended consequences of time tampering. The episode confirmed that Rick is fully capable of time travel; The fact that it turns out makes him a target for other beings who want that power for themselves.

at Rick and Morty #47 “Multidimensional cable problem” – From Kyle Starks, Post, Sarah Stern and Crank! – Rick is targeted by Xepthurians, a strange type he describes as “Blood-thirsty, despicable, atrocities-thirsty beasts.” Xepthurians invade Smith’s home, torture Rick and threaten to kill his family unless he turns over his time travel technology. While Rick argues that nihilism means there’s nothing the Xepthurians can do to make him talk, he appears defeated when the fight moves into his lab, and despite Morty’s best efforts, the aliens discover the “Time Travel Stuff” chest and return it to their original world, mission accomplished.

Of course, Rick always has a trick up his sleeve, and when the Xepthurians start messing with the technology in the box, they fire a mouthful SMS from Rick followed by a nuclear explosion that wipes them out. Back home, Rick explains to Morty that he’s constantly being pursued by aliens who want his technology, and that if they’re sophisticated enough to track him down, they’ll always want the secret of time travel. The “Time Travel Stuff” chest is actually a trap designed to work exactly as fans just saw it, and Rick ends the problem by writing the same words on a new chest and putting it out in the open again. It won’t be so Rick and Morty Without moving the knife, and just before the bomb explodes, it’s revealed that the Xepthurians actually want Rick’s time-travel technology to come back and prevent the atrocities they’ve committed, making the entire universe a paradise.

Using this recurring element of the show is perfect Rick and Morty A misrepresentation, drawing on both Rick’s wits and his sheer pleasure using the folly of his enemies against them. The fact that Rick constantly gets annoyed with enemies who want his technology is a well-established fact of the show – both the Federation of Galaxies and the Zigerions followed him for this reason – and the idea that he had simple traps in place when they arrived is totally in character.

Despite this, the true purpose of the “Time Travel Stuff” chest remains one that fans never expected, turning the long-running backdrop of the Easter eggs into a violent twist that applies to the spirit of the franchise and Rick’s character. The story also does exactly what fans want from a comic link, adding new context to details from the main show. Now, when? Rick and Morty Fans watching past and future episodes, will know that the seemingly innocuous “Time Travel Stuff” box has a brutal purpose.

The 32 Best TV Shows About Time Travel

time travel TV shows

Time traveling is a popular topic when it comes to all types of entertainment from books to films. But in recent years time travel has also become a popular theme in TV.

So let’s take a look at this list of the best time traveling TV shows and find out how each of them handles time travel and all the history that comes with it.

Doctor Who, BBC One (1963 – 1989, 2005 – present)

BBC One Doctor Who

When it comes to time traveling and TV, probably the most notable name in this niche is Doctor Who  because this time travel series has been around for 39 seasons and is still going strong.

Hailing from British television channel BBC One, Doctor Who tells the tale of the Time Lord aka The Doctor, and his companions as they travel to different times and try to prevent evil forces from changing history and hurting innocent lives.

Once the Time Lord gets hurt beyond healing, he can transform into a new body and continue saving the world. Hence why at this point 13 (soon to be 14) different actors have played The Doctor.

Doctor Who is not only a huge part of the fabric of British popular culture but by now this time travel show has found its way into the hearts of many people all over the world.

It has inspired many spin-offs in the form of TV shows, comic books, movies, novels, you name it. But more than that, by now it has become an industry standard both when it comes to science-fiction television series and shows about time travel.

No wonder that Doctor Who continues to be successful after countless actor changes and plot twists.

Where to watch Doctor Who:

Timeless, nbc (2016 – 2018).

NBC Timeless

Another time travel TV series that has already become a cult classic and is adored by fans all over the world is NBC’s Timeless . And despite the turmoil that this show has gone through, it still is time traveling at its best.

Starring Malcolm Barrett, Matt Lanter, and Abigail Spencer as Rufus, Wyatt, and Lucy, Timeless  details the trio traveling to different times in an effort to stop their adversaries from rewriting history.

But as it later turns out, the conspiracy goes deeper than them just changing history. Since the people who our trio is chasing are traveling through time to take down a dangerous and all-powerful organization. The same one that helped build the time machine that Rufus, Wyatt, and Lucy are using.

And although Timeless went on for just two seasons (and a two-hour wrap-up movie), you should still check out the show because it’s not only entertaining but will make you think and want to know more about the events that each episode is exploring.

Where to watch Timeless:

Dc’s legends of tomorrow, the cw (2016 – present).

DC's Legends of Tomorrow

If you are a fan of superhero TV shows, then you will probably have heard about DC’s Legends of Tomorrow . It is a show that is a huge part of The CW’s Arrowverse. And has crossed over with shows like Arrow , The Flash , and Supergirl multiple times now.

And even if you don’t like the rest of the superhero series but do enjoy a good old time travel TV show, then I suggest you still give Legends of Tomorrow a watch.

The plot of this show is based around a team of superheroes that are traveling through time in their time machine christened the Waverider to prevent different catastrophes from happening. Both ones made by others and those created by the team’s previous adventures.

At the forefront, there are well-known DC heroes like Rip Hunter, Firestorm, The Atom, Kid Flash, Steel, and Vixen. Joined by some original characters like Caity Lotz’s White Canary among others.

One of the defining characteristics of Legends of Tomorrow is how fun it is. Because adjectives like unapologetic, witty, and entertaining are frequently used to describe this time travel series.

However, more than that, it adds an interesting layer to the whole Arrowverse universe. And above all, it is just a hoot to watch.

Where to watch Legends of Tomorrow:

12 monkeys, syfy (2015 – 2018).

SyFy 12 Monkeys

Then there also is SyFy’s 12 Monkeys , which is a little darker take on time traveling. One that comes with mystery, drama, and apocalyptic stakes. But that doesn’t lessen how good this time travel TV series is.

Split between two timelines, 12 Monkeys centers on Aaron Stanford’s James Cole, who is tasked to travel back in time and stop the distribution of a virus that has the ability to end the human race as we know it.

In Cole’s real timeline, the year is 2043 and people are struggling to survive because of the terrible mutations caused by the virus. So Cole travels back to 2015 to find virologist Cassie Railly, played by Amanda Schull, that can help him stop the release of the virus and the organization that is behind it called The Army of the 12 Monkeys.

If you think about it, the post-apocalyptic setting and time travel really do go hand in hand. Because if you can go back in time to stop history from being changed, why not go back to change it if it prevents something terrible from happening?

And that is what this show explores. Beautifully combining elements of mystery, drama, and science fiction, to form a great TV show.

Where to watch 12 Monkeys:

Outlander, starz (2014 – present).

time travel stuff box

Want another show that mixes time travel with historical events and does it flawlessly? Then you should put Outlander on your must-watch TV show list!

The show starts in the 1940s when a combat nurse Claire Randall visits Inverness, Scotland as part of her second honeymoon with her husband Frank. Claire accidentally happens upon the standing stones at Craigh na Dun which transport her back in time to 1743.

To return to her own time she first has to survive 18th-century Scotland. And she does so by joining a group of rebel Highlanders from Clan MacKenzie and marrying one of the Highlanders, Jamie Fraser. But eventually, she falls in love with her new husband and aids the clan in evading British redcoats that are pursuing them.

Over the five seasons of Outlander that are currently out (with the sixth coming soon), we see Claire jump back and forth between the 20th and 18th centuries and her two families as she faces two pregnancies, wars, and much more. But eventually, Claire finds her way back to Jamie.

Where to watch Outlander:

Travelers, showcase (2016 – 2018).

Netflix Travelers

Then we have Travelers , a joint venture between Netflix and Canada’s Showcase that will tick all of your time travel TV show boxes.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world , this show depicts the adventures of travelers – operatives who go back in time to prevent the collapse of society.

These travelers are transferred into the bodies of our current-day humans, who otherwise would die, to blend in with twenty-first-century people. And with the help of their artificial intelligence boss from the future, travelers carry out missions in order to stop many catastrophic events from happening.

Travelers is a great mix of sci-fi and drama, featuring a great cast and spine-tingling storylines. So if you love all that and love a good time-travel series, then look no further than Travelers .

Where to watch Travelers:

Dark, netflix (2017 – 2020).

time travel stuff box

Netflix’s first German original series was the science fiction series Dark , which mixes in some mystery drama with sci-fi: time travel, the apocalypse, wormholes, and parallel worlds.

Dark takes place in Winden, a fictional German town, and begins in 2019 after children begin to disappear from the town. As the show progresses, however, timelines jump drastically between as early as 1921 to as late as 2053.

As four families in Winden investigate the disappearances to reunite with their lost loved ones, they discover a wormhole beneath the local powerplant that allows them to travel between timelines, thus uncovering a generations-long conspiracy involving the town and their families.

Where to watch Dark:

The umbrella academy, netflix (2019 – present).

time travel stuff box

Netflix brings another to the list with The Umbrella Academy .

On October 1, 1989, 43 infants were suddenly born from unsuspecting women despite them not even being pregnant the day before.

7 of them were raised together as the Hargreeve siblings and trained in their respective abilities until their relationship became strained as teenagers and they drifted apart.

Now, as adults, they’re brought back together by the death of their adoptive father – and the threat of the end of the world, of course.

They’re forced to travel back in time but end up in different times and places, and must find each other again to stop the nuclear apocalypse.

Where to watch The Umbrella Academy:

Seven days, upn (1998 – 2001).

time travel stuff box

We know that the National Security Agency has its share of secrets, but what if one of those secrets was a time-traveling machine?

In UPN’s Seven Days , the plot centers on one such device made from alien technology found at Roswell.

The Chronosphere, as it’s called, can only be used in times when national security is at risk – the limited capacity of the device allows for just one human to go back in time by seven days in order to avert disasters.

Thus, when the White House is attacked, the NSA employs former Navy SEAL and CIA operative Frank Parker to go back and prevent it from happening.

Where to watch Seven Days:

Loki, disney+ (2021 – present).

time travel stuff box

Yes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the greatest gifts to the cinema of our time. Now, the MCU has expanded even further into the television medium and we’ve got a few series to accompany it!

One of those is Loki , which of course, centers on the God of Thunder’s mischievous adopted brother.

After the events in Avengers: Endgame , particularly his stealing of the Tesseract, Loki inadvertently creates another timeline that began in 2012, making him a “time variant” version of himself.

When confronted by the authorities, Loki is given two choices: face punishment and cease to exist, or travel through time to fix his own mess and the threat that has emerged.

Where to watch Loki:

Making history, fox (2017).

time travel stuff box

The thing about traveling back in time is, you have to be very careful that your actions in the past won’t affect the future (which is essentially your actual present).

Most of the time, that’s something you wouldn’t know until you go back to your time. In Making History , however, Dan Chambers travels back in time to right before the American Revolution and sets off a series of events that seriously mess up the future.

Being able to constantly travel between time periods, Dan recruits the help of history professor Chis Parrish to travel with him and ensure that the American Revolution still takes place.

Where to watch Making History:

Quantum leap, nbc (1989 – 1993).

time travel stuff box

The title of NBC’s sci-fi comedy-drama Quantum Leap is also the name of the time travel machine that accidentally sends its creator, physicist Dr. Sam Beckett, back into the past.

Now, he’s stuck – and not as himself, either!

Sam discovers that he jumped into the body of a stranger and because he’s still himself, doesn’t know all the details of his current identity.

With the help of his friend Al, who appears as a hologram only he can see, he must fix something that went wrong so he can jump in time again and eventually get back to his own body.

Where to watch Quantum Leap:

Quantum leap, nbc (2022 – present).

time travel stuff box

Speaking of Quantum Leap , in 2022 NBC revived the 1989 series into a more modern take on the cult classic.

In this new Quantum Leap , thirty years have passed since Dr. Sam Beckett vanished into the Quantum Leap accelerator, and the Quantum Leap project was put to rest.

Now the project is restarted with a new team, who tries to puzzle together the mysteries behind Beckett and his time-traveling machine.

So, we follow Ben Song, the lead physicist of the Quantum Leap time travel project, who gets lost in the past after leaping back in time.

As he tries to return to the present he is helped by his fiancée Addison Augustine, who appears to him as a hologram during each leap, and the team back in the present time.

Among the newest time travel shows on this list is Hallmark’s The Way Home which has already been renewed for a second season.

When Kat and her daughter Alice return to Port Haven and are forced to move in with Alice’s estranged mother Del, the three women use time travel to uncover their family history, including what really happened to Kat’s little brother Jacob and whether they can prevent his disappearance.

Where to watch The Way Home:

Russian doll, netflix (2019 – 2022).

time travel stuff box

Netflix’s Russian Doll deviates from the traditional time travel theme of a willing traveler in one specific timeline because Russian Doll’s protagonist Nadia Vulvokov not only has absolutely no choice or control over her so-called time traveling, but hers is also a time loop.

She wakes up every day having to relive the day of her 36th birthday party in New York City; every time, she dies and comes back to the exact same moment.

Every time, Nadia scrambles to figure out what happens to her and tries to prevent her death, leading her to find Alan, a man who is experiencing the same time loop.

Where to watch Russian Doll:

Undone, prime video (2019 – present).

time travel stuff box

Undone may be an animated series, but it certainly isn’t geared toward younger audiences; though there is a touch of comedy, the series leans more towards the psychological drama genre and “explores the elastic nature of reality”.

The series follows Alma Winograd-Diaz right after she gets into a near-fatal car accident.

Right before the crash, she has a strange vision of her dead father, and right after it, she finds that she now has the ability to manipulate and move through time.

Using this newfound power, she travels between time periods to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding her father’s death.

Where to watch Undone:

Voyagers, nbc (1982 – 1983).

time travel stuff box

Premiering back in the early 1980s, NBC’s Voyagers! Is set in a world where time travel already exists.

In fact, there’s already a secret society in place that trains its members, called Voyagers, to go back in time and make sure that historical events happen exactly the way they’re supposed to – otherwise it could affect the present in unexpected ways.

One such Voyager is Phineas Bogg, although he isn’t exactly the best at the job.

During an accidental trip to 1982, he meets the young Jeffrey Jones and ends up bringing him along on one of his missions.

Having lost his Guidebook, Phineas now needs to rely on the extremely smart Jeffrey to get history right.

Where to watch Voyagers!:

Fringe, fox (2008 – 2013).

time travel stuff box

Fox’s Fringe is a series that was well into the science fiction genre, with parallel universes, supernatural abilities, biotechnology, doomsday predictions, and of course, time travel.

The title is taken from fringe science, which is a branch that deals with scientific theories riddled with skepticism or even having been disproven already.

In Fringe , Special Agent Olivia Dunham is assigned to oversee the FBI ’s Fringe Division, which is run by Peter Bishop and his father Walter.

Together, the team uses both fringe science and Olivia’s knowledge in investigative techniques to explore the unexplained.

In the process, they discover a larger mystery involving parallel universes and alternate timelines .

Where to watch Fringe:

Time after time, abc (2017).

time travel stuff box

ABC’s Time After Time is based on the novel of the same name written by Kevin Williamson in 1979.

In addition to that, each episode takes its title from a line in Cyndi Lauper’s song, which was inspired by the film (and subsequently, the same book!).

In Time After Time , we are taken to H.G. Wells’ home in 1893.

During a dinner party, he reveals his time machine – right before his guest John Stevenson is arrested for actually being Jack the Ripper .

John escapes through the time machine and Wells follows him straight into the present: 2017. Thus begins a cat-and-mouse game as John attempts to gain control of the machine.

Where to watch Time After Time:

11.22.63, hulu (2016).

time travel stuff box

When you have anything with Stephen King involved, you know it’s going to be great.

Hulu’s eight-episode miniseries 11.22.63 is based on King’s novel 11/22/63 and is a science fiction thriller like no other.

Starring James Franco in the lead role, 11.22.63 follows Jake Epping, an English teacher from Maine .

His best friend Al reveals a time travel machine and asks him to take over the mission he’s been working on: to travel to the 60s and prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Will Jake be successful in changing a past that simply refuses to be changed?

Where to watch 11.22.63:

The 4400, usa network/sky one (2004 – 2007).

time travel stuff box

The 4400 is yet another slightly different take on the idea of time travel, in that there has been just one (fairly significant) shift forward in time, to the present.

Beginning in 1946, individuals who were easily overlooked or marginalized by society slowly began disappearing through beams of green light.

Now, all 4400 of them (hence the title) have been returned to the present day – without having aged a day and in some cases, even manifesting supernatural abilities like telekinesis, healing, and telepathy.

Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris are assigned to investigate the phenomenon and find out why the 4400 have returned.

NOTE: For a fresher take on the show, you can also check out the reboot of the original series which is currently airing on The CW.

Where to watch The 4400:

Somewhere between, abc (2017).

time travel stuff box

When tragedy strikes our lives, we always wish there was something we could’ve done to prevent it.

In ABC’s Somewhere Between we meet Laura Price, a successful news producer with a great career, a loving husband who’s a district attorney, and a beautiful daughter named Serena.

However, her life changes when the serial killer she is helping the cops to catch kills Serena.

Distraught with grief , Laura attempts to complete suicide but is unsuccessful, instead waking up having time-traveled to a week before Serena’s death.

She teams up with Nico, a former SFPD detective who experienced the same reset and wants to find the real killer to change his brother’s fate as well.

Where to watch Somewhere Between:

Terra nova, fox (2011).

time travel stuff box

Terra Nova takes its viewers to both extremes of the time-traveling timeline.

The present-day is 2149, where overpopulation has threatened to deplete the Earth’s resources.

In an attempt to save Earth and mankind, scientists have found a way to travel back in time, sending groups of humans back to the Cretaceous Period to set up colonies.

Terra Nova focuses primarily on Elisabeth and Jim Shannon, and their three children, who have joined the 10th pilgrimage to Terra Nova.

They offer their expertise as a trauma surgeon and former narcotics detective and help those in charge with stopping those whose intentions go against the greater good.

Where to watch Terra Nova:

Frequency, the cw (2016 – 2017).

time travel stuff box

One concept in time travel is known as “the butterfly effect”, wherein one small change in time may have great effects elsewhere.

Frequency demonstrates this concept perfectly.

Raimy Sullivan is an NYPD detective who, after a strange weather phenomenon, discovers that she can communicate with her dead father through his old ham radio.

Believing he was a corrupt cop, she learns the truth and warns him of his murder, thus saving his life.

However, this has profound effects on the future – Raimy’s present.

Now, they must work together across time to save her father and preserve the present.

Where to watch Frequency:

Life on mars, bbc one (2006).

time travel stuff box

In many of the shows on the list so far, the protagonists experience a time loop that’s triggered at the point of their death.

It’s no different for Sam Tyler, the main character in the British series Life on Mars .

Sam is a Detective Chief Inspector with the Greater Manchester Police, but one day he accidentally gets hit by a car.

When he awakens, he’s in 1973 and working at one rank lower than he was: Detective Inspector.

The selling point of Life on Mars , however, is that we’re left unsure if Sam’s predicament is due to his actual death, a comatose, or time travel.

Where to watch Life on Mars:

Always a witch, netflix (2019 – 2020).

time travel stuff box

Always A Witch (or Siempre Bruja in its original Spanish title) is a Colombian series that is set in both present-day Colombia and the 17th century .

The series follows Carmen Eguiliuz, a young 19-year-old witch who, after committing the crime of falling in love with a white man in 1646 colonial Colombia, is scheduled to be burned at the stake.

She gets a chance to escape to a new life when the mysterious wizard Aldemar makes a deal with her: he will save the man she loves if she travels into the future to find the woman who can break his curse.

Where to watch Always a Witch:

Beforeigners, hbo (2019 – present).

time travel stuff box

HBO’s Beforeigners is a Norwegian sci-fi crime drama series and the first Norwegian original from HBO Europe.

The title is a clever play on words centered on the general plot: a group of “foreigners” has suddenly shown up at a neighborhood in Oslo, and they are all from “before” times, or several different time periods in history.

Whether from the Viking period , the Stone Age, or the more recent 19th century , each of these ‘Beforeigners’ tries to integrate in modern-day Norwegian society.

One of them even partners with a detective to investigate first a murdered Stone Age woman, then a series of murderers tied to Jack the Ripper.

Where to watch Beforeigners:

Alice, sbs tv (2020).

time travel stuff box

Alice was a South Korean sci-fi series that aired in late 2020.

In the lead-up to the main plot, the show’s background is explained to its viewers.

Set in 2050, time travel is monitored by an agency called Alice, which sends its clients to the past to help find closure with deceased loved ones.

Alice one day sends two agents to 1992 in order to find the Book of Prophecy, but one of them disappears with the book and her unborn child.

In 2020, the child becomes a detective and in his investigation into his mother’s death in 2010, discovers the existence of Alice and time travel.

Where to watch Alice:

Live up to your name, tvn (2017).

time travel stuff box

Yet another South Korean time travel series , Live Up to Your Name initially takes its viewers some 400 years into the past, right in the middle of the Joseon dynasty.

There we meet Heo Im, a doctor of traditional Korean medicine who also specializes in acupuncture.

On one of his treatments of the king’s migraines, he made a mistake and was charged with treason.

Chased by the king’s soldiers, he’s shot with an arrow and presumed dead when he falls into the river – except he ends up waking up in present-day Seoul instead, where he meets cardiothoracic surgeon Choi Yeon-kyung.

Where to watch Live Up to Your Name:

My only love song, netflix (2017).

time travel stuff box

Our third South Korean series is Netflix’s My Only Love Song , which aired in 2017.

We start off in modern-day Korea where we meet Soo-jung, a talented and top-level actress.

However, it seems that the fame may have gotten to her head as she’s arrogant, and believes fame and money make the world go round.

When things don’t go her way on her new show, she winds up in a time-traveling van that takes her to the 6th century.

There, she meets a man much like herself in terms of arrogance, but his hidden soft spot and generosity towards the poor changes her perspective on her own life and self.

Where to watch My Only Love Song:

Signal, tvn (2016).

time travel stuff box

Signal is based on the 2000 American film Frequency , but another thing that sets this South Korean series apart from others is that the cases investigated in the series are also based on real-life crimes in the country.

Signal follows a cold case profiler from 2015 and a detective from 1989 simultaneously; they discover they’re able to communicate with each other through an old walkie-talkie.

Using this unique ability to provide much-needed foresight in investigations, they team up to both solve and in some cases, even prevent these horrific crimes.

Where to watch Signal:

Rooftop prince, sbs (2012).

time travel stuff box

Last but not least, South Korea brings its last time-traveling series to the table with Rooftop Prince , a comedy-drama filled with intrigue, mixed identities, and possible reincarnations.

Crown Prince Lee Gak from the Joseon dynasty accidentally time travels to 2012 with three others from his entourage, and their lives are thrown into a whirlwind.

He crosses paths with Se-na, who looks exactly like his recently deceased wife.

In the hopes of getting answers about his wife’s mysterious drowning, he assumes the identity of another man who he also looks exactly like and attempts to marry Se-na in this timeline as well.

I concur. This was definitely a great one. It certainly provides a lot of food for thought.

Some of the information in the Doctor Who one is wrong. It started in 1963, it was only revived in 2005 (you put 2006), and it’s been going for 39 seasons, as of June 2022

Thanks for letting me know! I updated the article accordingly.

Stranger Dimensions

Time Travel Proof: The Mounting Evidence Of A Broken Timeline

Time traveling tourists & other things.

Evidence of time travel is not something to be ignored — these periodic blips of stories, pictures, and artifacts are nothing less than blatant signs that our universe is in peril. The space-time continuum is breaking apart!

Eight years ago, I shared the first batch of this evidence. A handful of photographs and video clips that many believed were proof that time travel not only existed, but that individuals from the future had already visited us. Some, it was claimed, had even journeyed back to ancient times.

But they left footprints. They dropped artifacts. They were mistakenly caught on camera. Others deliberately shared knowledge of their strange voyages.

Others, if their stories are to be believed, were not quite so deliberate — they were like you or me. Ordinary people caught in time slips, temporarily whisked away to other eras, or perhaps even other universes.

Who were these alleged time travelers? These are some of their stories…

  • The 1917 Photograph

The Mummy’s Modern Boots

  • Project Pegasus & Nikola Tesla’s Jump Room
  • A Watch Found In A Chinese Tomb
  • Time Traveler Bridge Photo
  • Charlie Chaplin Time Traveler
  • An 1800s CD Case
  • The Time Slip Hotel
  • A Mysterious Near-Miss

Time Traveler In 1917 Photograph

time travel stuff box

It’s an odd thing when something, or someone, doesn’t quite fit in. At first, you may not notice. But upon closer inspection, the anomaly becomes clear.

So is the case with this seemingly ordinary photograph taken in 1917 Canada, found in a 1974 book titled The Great History of Cape Scott . It shows a group of people sitting upon the rocks of a beach, but among the crowd is a man who appears suspiciously out of place.

Many believe his clothes do not match those of the other beach-goers. Wearing a tee shirt, shorts, and with a hair style that seems quite modern in comparison, the mysterious individual hits all the check boxes for a person displaced in time.

In the photo, others even appear to look at him, perhaps in confusion.

This particular time traveler is colloquially known as the “surfer dude.”

time travel stuff box

Others, however, raise incredible questions.

For some time now, many have wondered about the existence of the so-called “Adidas Mummy,” the preserved body of a 30 to 40-year-old woman discovered in the Altai mountains region of Mongolia in 2016. She had been buried there for about 1,100 years.

Those studying her found that she had likely died of a “blow to the head.” However, her feet drew the most attention.

She wore what looked uncannily like modern day shoes, perhaps resembling a pair of snowboarding boots, as the Daily Mail mused in 2017 . They were made of felt, with splashes of bright red, and “knee length” with leather soles.

Their unique design, likened to Adidas, led many to question if perhaps the ancient Mongolian woman was in fact a time traveler. Perhaps, even if the shoes themselves were not from current times, they were made, or possibly inspired, by someone from the future utilizing the same style.

Among her other belongings was what archaeologists described as a “beauty kit,” including a mirror, a comb, and a knife. However, scientists brushed off any claims that she was a time traveler, though they did say the style of the boots was “very modern.”

Nikola Tesla’s Jump Room

Artistic rendering of what the jump room may have looked like, an ominous room with a purple hue

For years, Andrew Basiago has told the story of Project Pegasus, the alleged covert time travel initiative that was funded and maintained by the United States government throughout the 1960s and 70s. But perhaps the most interesting detail of his peculiar story is the existence of the so-called Jump Room.

It was in this room that Basiago claimed participants such as himself performed their secretive time travel experiments.

Built using designs by the late Nikola Tesla, recovered from his New York apartment shortly after his death, the room housed what some would call a teleportation machine. It consisted of a “shimmering curtain” made of “radiant energy,” a special, and allegedly as-yet-undisclosed, form of energy that is “latent and pervasive” throughout the cosmos. It is, if this story is to be believed, what makes time travel possible.

The curtain stood between two elliptical booms, and by passing through it, would-be travelers could journey across vast distances — and time itself. Basiago claims to have visited Gettysburg using the jump room, and that the experiments even took him as far as the planet Mars.

Beyond that, there are few other details about the mysterious Jump Room, and no physical proof remains. Did it really exist?

Evidence Of Time Travel In A Chinese Tomb?

A story from 2008, originally published by none other than the Daily Mail , claimed that Chinese archeologists found a watch in a 400-year-old Si Qing tomb in Shangsi County, China. This story then went extremely viral, after I shared my original article on it (“Are These Images Proof Of Real Time Travel,” published March 22, 2012). The images, which are still scattered around out there (source unknown), show a group of archeologists examining a stone block within a room, as well as the singular image of someone holding up a tiny piece of metal in the shape of a watch.

Allegedly, the timepiece was “frozen” at 10:06, with the word “Swiss” engraved on its back. However, the object looked much more like a sculpted piece of stone than an actual functioning watch, not to mention the fact that its circumference appeared smaller than that of a finger.

If I were charitable, I could say that perhaps 400 years ago some people carved this to look like a watch someone had seen, perhaps one worn by a visiting time traveler. That, or I’m incorrect and it is an actual watch and the time traveler was just very tiny. Maybe we all do shrink in the future, like the Shrinking Man Project suggests we should. You never know! Moving on!

Time Traveler Visits A Bridge?

Time Traveler Caught In Virtual Museum Photo?

A strange photo, once available at the Virtual Museum Of Canada (which has since been decommissioned), appeared to show a group of people attending the reopening of the South Fork Bridge in 1941. The bridge was located in Gold Bridge in British Columbia, Canada, and quite a few people showed up for it. But like the 1917 Canadian surfer dude mentioned earlier, someone in this photo seemingly doesn’t belong.

Time traveler at the South Fork Bridge?

Who was this oddly out-of-place individual, wearing what looks like modern clothing all the way back in the 1940s? Who knows? The photo went absolutely viral some time around 2010, with the man in question becoming dubbed the “Time Traveling Hipster.”

What’s fun about this one is that, time traveler or not, it’s a real photo. The man certainly stands out from his cohorts – he’s wearing sunglasses, possibly a hoodie or light jacket, and what appears to be a branded t-shirt. He’s also holding a relatively small camera. Was he simply ahead of his time? Or out of it? We can’t be sure, but but the story of this photograph is one to remember. Next!

Lights! Camera! Action!

Next up we have two, count them two, short videos which many claim show time travelers unwittingly caught in the act of…talking on the phone!

Indeed, smartphones are the bane of any would-be time traveling tourist, as they seem like the most obvious thing to be spotted in photos, videos, and even paintings .

The above video, uploaded October 27, 2010, currently has over 4.3 million views, and contains a clip from a special feature found on the DVD edition of the Charlie Chaplin film The Circus. It’s of the movie’s premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in 1928.

But what’s so special about it? What’s worth 4.3 million views on YouTube? Well, you see that woman in the dark coat walking behind zebra? What’s she holding up to their ear? Is it a cellphone? Or was she just scratching her head, like the rest of us?

Meanwhile, from over in 1938 Massachusetts, we have the following video that some also suggest proves the existence of smartphones long before their time (or have at least mused about the possibility). A crowd of people exit a DuPont factory, and one woman is seen holding something to her ear.

Smartphones, brushes, other handheld rectangular objects of a dubious nature. Our universe is one filled with mystery, and some questions may forever remain unanswered. Onward!

A Compact Disc Case In The 1800s?

Time Traveler's Glass Box

A painting from the 1800s appears to show a man holding what some have described as a fancy CD box. You can see another man depicted to be lifting up what looks like a square plastic “sleeve” that you’d place individual CDs into. The earliest form of plastic didn’t exist until the mid-1800s, and Compact Discs wouldn’t arrive on the scene until the 1980s.

Of course, it’s possibly this is just an ordinary box made for ordinary 1800s-era items.

Safety Not Guaranteed?

A Time Traveler's Wanted Ad

In 1997, an unusual classified ad appeared in Backwoods Home Magazine:

“WANTED: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 322, Oakview, CA 93022. You’ll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.”

As you can imagine, some people found that odd, and it naturally wound up on the Internet. In 2012, they even made a film based on it called, well, Safety Not Guaranteed .

The Time Slip Hotel: Proof That Even Buildings Time Travel?

Sketch of a Spanish hotel

It’s not unusual to, on occasion, find yourself at what you might describe as a “strange” place, especially if you happen to be in a country you’ve never visited before. Two couples who vacationed to Spain in the late 1970s know this all too well. In fact, their story has become something of a time slip legend.

In 1979, they were on their way to Spain, leaving England and venturing through France. While near Montelimar, they decided to stop and search for a hotel. Their original choices were packed, but eventually they did find one — an odd place, an old two-story building with the simple word “HOTEL” above the entrance.

They got a room, and stayed for the night, despite everything seeming particularly old-fashioned. The bed was hard, the place didn’t have a telephone, and there was no glass in the windows. Likely out of bemusement, they took a number of photographs.

When they went down to the dining room the next morning, they had a chance to see the hotel’s other customers. They too looked strangely out of place, dressed in outmoded clothing, two in old uniforms. Strangest of all was the bill for their stay — 19 francs, far less than they had anticipated.

All in all, it was a somewhat strange experience, but not unpleasant. They’d found a place to rest for the night, and continued on their way to Spain, where they presumably had a decent time. It wasn’t until they returned to France and looked for the hotel again that they knew something was truly amiss.

The hotel didn’t exist.

This wasn’t a matter of the hotel simply shutting down, or their being unable to find it again. It simply was not there. They even asked around in Montelimar, and no one had ever heard of it.

When they returned to England, the mystery deepened: Their photographs of the hotel were gone. Not only was there no proof that the hotel existed, but there was no proof that they’d ever been there at all.

Their odd tale was later featured on an episode of the television series Strange But True .

Is One Man’s Near Miss Proof of Time Travel?

Hanging pocketwatches

In 2019, a very curious video from Turkey showed a man nearly meeting his fate, only to be saved in the strangest way by a mysterious passerby.

According to Demirören News Agency , the event happened in late February in the Turkish city of Adana. Serdar Binici was standing outside of his store when another man, who happened to be walking by, tapped his left shoulder.

Binici, for reasons even he claims to not understand, instinctively looked over to his right, and in that moment a truck drove by, and its rear metal door swung open toward his head. Binici was able to move out of the way just in time.

The story was featured by news outlets in Turkey, and was eventually shared on Reddit .

During a follow-up interview, Binici questioned how and why the events played out as they did. Why did he look over his opposite shoulder, and not the one he’d been tapped on? Why did the stranger tap his shoulder at all? Binici supposes the stranger may not, himself, know why any of this happened. Perhaps, he thinks, it was all some kind of divine intervention.

However, the peculiarity of this video has led many to speculate that the passing stranger wasn’t just some random person, but actually a time traveler — possibly one on a mission from the future, striving to put right what once went wrong. Could this incident be yet more proof of real time travel?

Somewhere In Time

Even if these stories and strange photographs are not evidence of anything, these tales are part of our shared paranormal folklore, and have become online urban legends. Some, like the tale of Rudolph Fentz, date back decades. And while others are easily disproved, they stand as fun little anecdotes that do make you wonder, what if?

At the end of the day, it’s all just a bunch of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey…stuff. Best not to take it too seriously. Still, if you’re looking for more on possible time travelers, consider checking out the following:
