If you love cruising , you're probably acquainted with PortMiami. It's the busiest homeport in America, with more than 5.5 million passengers embarking on ships there each year (based on 2018/2019 statistics).

It's the perfect place from which to set sail to the Caribbean , Panama, Mexico and beyond. Twenty-two cruise lines sail from PortMiami, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a ship and itinerary that works for you. The port is easy to get to -- with both Miami International Airport (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) airports close by -- and there are plenty of points hotels for a pre- or post-cruise stay.

The port consists of nine cruise terminals: Terminal A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J. Disney will soon cruise out of a new terminal (K), as will Virgin Voyages (V).

We'll discuss the port's parking garages and lots below. (You can download a PDF of the below PortMiami map .)

Pro tip: If anyone in your party needs a wheelchair to transfer from the cruise terminal entrance to the ship, call your cruise line in advance to arrange -- or have your travel agent do so, if necessary.

Nearest airports

The Miami International Airport (MIA) is just a short drive -- about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic -- from the cruise port. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is an alternative and the drive to PortMiami from there takes about an hour.

Tons of airlines fly to MIA, including American, Delta, Frontier, Sun Country and United. If you'd prefer to fly through FLL, your choices include Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Silver Airways, Southwest, Spirit and United.

There are sometimes buy one, get one free airfare opportunities when flying to these airports. Consider Frontier's periodic Friends Fly Free or Kids Fly Free offers if you're a member of the airline's Discount Den . Or sign up for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card and get a companion certificate on the card's anniversary. The certificate allows a companion to fly with you for $121 ($99 fare and the cost of taxes from $22). You can also bring a companion along for free (actually, just the cost of the ticket's taxes) if you have the Southwest Companion Pass .

Outbound flight times don't always dovetail perfectly with your cruise line's disembarkation time, so you may find yourself with time to kill at the airport.

Make sure you carry a credit card with airport lounge access as a benefit. The Chase Sapphire Reserve gives you access to Priority Pass lounges and participating restaurants while The Platinum Card® from American Express will open the door to the Amex Centurion Lounge at MIA .

How to get to the port

Cruise line transfers.

You can often buy a transfer between the airport and the cruise terminal (or your hotel) directly from your cruise line. Sometimes this is reserved for travelers who've purchased their airfare from the cruise line, but you can call to ask if you can buy the transfers a la carte. For example, Carnival Cruise Line offers transportation between MIA ($16.99 per person) and FLL ($31.99 per person) and PortMiami on embarkation day.

Hotel shuttles

If you're staying at a hotel near the airport (like the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami-Airport South-Blue Lagoon), it may offer complimentary shuttle service. Other hotels may offer a free or paid shuttle from the hotel to PortMiami. Inquire when you make your reservations. For example, the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Miami Brickell Downtown offers a shuttle to PortMiami for $8 per person.

Independent van and car services

There are also a variety of local companies that operate shared and private van shuttles and limo services from MIA and FLL to area hotels and the port. Research vendors like Port of Miami Shuttle, GO Airport Shuttle or Metro Shuttle Service. Prices vary depending on if you select a shared or private ride, the number of passengers in your party and the type of vehicle requested (i.e., sedan, SUV, van, etc.).

Nationally known services like Groundlink also offer private car service pick-up and drop-off. The fare from MIA to PortMiami is about $70 for a standard vehicle that accommodates three people. Add $20 if you need a child car set. A van accommodating up to 10 people priced out at $144.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Hailing a taxi to take you to PortMiami is simple and it's a flat fee of $27. Taxi stands are on the arrival (ground) level of the airport (outside baggage claim). If you're going somewhere other than the port, the metered rate is $6.90 for the first mile and then $2.40 for each mile thereafter. Waiting time is $0.40 per minute.

Ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft are also an option. An Uber Pool from MIA to PortMiami can be less than $6, UberX can be around $11 and UberXL can be around $21. Premier and SUV cars can run around $30–$50 and all prices can vary during traffic or high-demand times. The Uber ride from FLL will be more expensive: about $30 via Pool, $36 for Uber X and $70 for UberXL. Premier and SUV cards run from $80–$160 from FLL.

Public transportation from MIA

Board Metrorail's Orange Line (look for signs to the Metrorail Train Station) to Downtown Miami, which will take less than 30 minutes. The fare is $2.25 per person. It's about a 1.5-mile-walk from the Freedom Tower station to the port, so you'll want to grab an Uber or taxi from there. Or take the Miami Trolley Coral Way route (free) all the way to the port. You can track the location of the trolley in real time with this handy, interactive map .

Public transportation from FLL

Take the Tri-Rail commuter train to MIA ($3.75 per person on weekdays and $5 per person on weekends). Then board Metrorail's Orange Line ($2.25 per person) and head downtown to the Freedom Tower stop. Finally, board the free Coral Way Route Trolley and disembark at PortMiami.

Port parking

There are four parking garages and a handful of lots at which you can park if you're arriving at PortMiami via car. If you're driving an over-length vehicle (RV or vehicle with trailer), head to Lot 2 (across from Terminal E), which is set up with extra-large spots. Extra fees apply (see below). On embarkation day, the garages and Lot #2 are open and staffed by a parking attendant from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You may drop off your luggage at the terminal before parking. There is also a free shuttle from each parking facility to the terminal. Security patrols all parking garages and lots.

All cruise terminals have associated parking lots, starting at $22 per night. Royal Caribbean's Terminal A Garage charges a higher rate of $25 per day, and vehicles longer than 20 feet (e.g., oversized vans, recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers) incur an additional $22 per day. Those with a disabled parking permit or license tag receive two hours of complimentary parking, after which they will incur standard parking rates.

Note that cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and major U.S. traveler's checks — but not debit cards — are accepted modes of payment. However, Garage J is prepaid only (pay when you arrive), and vehicles need to display a special decal throughout the duration of the cruise.

Where to shop near the port

If you need to stock up on some last-minute cruise supplies, PortMiami is near two major shopping centers, Bayside Marketplace and Brickell City Centre.

Bayside Marketplace (401 Biscayne Blvd.) is an open-air shopping and entertainment complex on the waterfront that buzzes with energy and offers stunning views of Biscayne Bay and the cruise port. If this is your first time cruising out of Miami, a visit to the marketplace is a must. In addition to shopping and live performances, the waterfront marketplace offers numerous dining options including a Hard Rock Cafe, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Segafredo. This is also the place to book sightseeing tours and even a thrilling speedboat tour if you're in town before or after your cruise.

If you're already at the port and want to do some last-minute shopping at Bayside Marketplace, get on the free Coral Way Trolley and disembark at the Biscayne Blvd. stop. You can also walk to the mall; it takes about 15 minutes from the port.

From Downtown Miami and the Brickell area, take the free Metromover Inner Loop to the Bayside stop.

Miami's bayside

If you have high-end shopping on your mind, head on over to Brickell City Centre (701 S. Miami Ave.), where four floors and more than 120 stores are dedicated to designer labels and luxury. The Saks Fifth Avenue here is 107,000 square feet! There's also a dine-in movie theater, CMX. For restaurants, there are many to choose from. We like Luke's Lobster, Pubbelly Sushi and Quito la Huella (Latin American farm-to-table organic fare).

To get to Brickell City Centre, take the free Metromovers Brickell Loop and exit at the Brickell City Centre station. Or, board a free Miami Trolley: the Brickell Trolley if you're coming from the south or the Biscayne Trolley if you're coming the north.

Where to eat

Restaurants near PortMiami are aplenty and feature various international cuisines. Versailles in Little Havana is a 15-minute taxi ride from the port and is a local legend serving excellent Cuban cuisine. For affordable Italian food, head to Macchialina in Miami Beach (a 12-minute cab ride) and for some Peruvian fare, CVI.CHE 105 -- about 10 minutes from the port -- has great reviews online and is worth a try. Of course, for modern American cuisine, there's the Rusty Pelican with great views of the Miami skyline (15 minutes from the port).

Sights to see

Miami is both a major urban center and a jumping-off point for some of Florida's most pristine nature reserves. You could spend weeks here and still not see everything. Here's where to start if you want to tack on some time to your cruise.

South Beach

You can't visit Miami without spending some time in South Beach. You've seen it on TV and heard about it from your friends -- now it's your turn to explore the neighborhood yourself. Stroll along Ocean Drive and get lost in the Art Deco Historic District, or enjoy some shopping, dining and gallery-hopping at the famous pedestrian Lincoln Road Mall. To get that perfect selfie with Miami as the backdrop, head to South Pointe Park and Pier, where you can get a view of not only South Beach but also Fisher Island, PortMiami and Downtown Miami. Cruise line transfers

Many cruise passengers arrive and depart by air. Most cruise lines provide shuttles for passengers arriving from across the U.S. and beyond at Miami International Airport. These transfers can be arranged in advance online or by calling to the cruise line (2 to 4 days prior to sailing depending on which cruise line).

Note : These shuttles are mainly only available on the day of embarkation or disembarkation. As it’s recommended to arrive at least 1 day before your voyage, this option is not suitable for most cruise passengers.

Cruise line transfers are not cheap at are charged per person. Currently for example Carnival Cruises charges $22.99 per person for a transfer from the airport to the Port of Miami. Other and cheaper options include taxi, Uber or Lyft. An Uber or Lyft is mostly the cheapest way to get to your departure terminal.

Taxi – Uber/Lyft

There is no longer a flat rate of $27 from the airport to the port, this was removed after the covid period. A taxi from the airport to the port will cost you approx. $40.

In addition to taxis, ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft are available from points across the city and surrounding area. It basically means you use a very simple smartphone app to request a ride, and your driver uses his/her personal vehicle. These are great hassle-free options to get to your cruise terminal and are often more comfortable than a cab.

Prices of Uber/Lyft start around $20 from Miami airport to cruise port and even less for a shared pool ride. The cost of UberXL is approx. $41 while Premier and SUV cars run around $50 to $90. Prices can vary during traffic delays or high-demand times.

These rates are per car or taxi, not per person.

Driving to Port of Miami by taxi

Public Transportation to Port of Miami

If you prefer to use public transit , you can use Metrorail’s Orange Line from Downtown Miami. You will then need to transfer to the Metromover of City of Miami Coral Way Trolley from the Government Centre Metrorail/Metromover Station.

You can download the Go Miami-Dade Transit app and guide to help you plan your journey by bus, train or mover car from anywhere in the city.

Trains also bring cruise passengers to and from Maimi. Virgin Trains USA (formerly operating as Brightline ) connect Miami with Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando in the near future. Comfortable express trains depart from and arrive at Virgin MiamiCentral in Downtown Miami.

Amtrak train services from New York City, Washington, Richmond, Savannah, Orlando and other cities across the Eastern Seaboard operate from Miami Station, which is close to the Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer Station.

Hotels with Free Shuttle

As flight delays can always happend due to bad weather or cancelations we can recommend to book a stay at a hotel at least for one day ahead of your cruise. Some hotels close to the port offer a shuttle service for a small fee and some airport hotels such as the Comfort Suites hotel offer a complimentary shuttle service from the airport and to Miami cruise port.

At some properties you can even leave your car parked at the hotel to avoid costly port parking.

Similarly, there are rental car companies that provide courtesy shuttles after you drop off your vehicle.

Private Transportation to Miami Cruise Port

A variety of companies provide private transportation between Miami Airport and the Port of Miami cruise terminals. They offer drop-off or pick-up service between the International Airport and the cruise port. These shuttles can also be booked for getting you to/from a hotel to the terminal and airport. It’s a stress-free way to travel in comfort as driver will be waiting for you and will drop you off at your destination.

How to get from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport to Miami Cruise Port

Anybody looking to travel the 30 miles from Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL) to Miami’s Cruise Port will be well served by a fantastic transport nexus specifically tailored to the bustling cruise network. But with so many transportation options available, it’s good to have in mind what each one offers, so that you can plan accordingly. Whatever transportation you choose, its best to allow at least 45 to 60 minutes for you journey from the airport to your Miami hotel or cruise terminal.

Cruise Line Transfer

Reserving your airport transfer through the cruise line promises a level of convenience, comfort and assurance that other options might not meet. You will often be greeted by cruise company representatives, conducted to a comfortable coach, and be safe in the knowledge that if the shuttle is delayed the cruise will not be leaving without you.

The comfort and assurance of the official option does come at a cost however, with many shuttle services costing around $25 to $35 per person. Charges like this may be fine if you are travelling alone, but they soon add up to a large bill if you are travelling with family.

Airport & Private Shuttles

Any airport departure gate will be well served by independent shuttle companies, and in Fort Lauderdale there are plenty of shuttle services catered to cruisers. Opting for an independent airport shuttle service will often be cheaper than a cruise line’s official shuttles. Rather than a coach, expect a minibus, and if travelling alone, expect to share the journey with other cruisers.

Private shuttles are a viable option for small groups, working out around $30 a head, this competes with the official cruise lines’ shuttle services. If you want to upgrade from an economy vehicle to something a little more stylish there are also private car and limo companies throughout the area offering private and stylish transportation between airport and seaport.

Check rates for transfers from Ft Lauderdale to Miami

Hotel Shuttles

The hotels of Fort Lauderdale near the port are well prepared to service cruisers, but often hotels in the area will only provide shuttle journeys to the nearby Port Everglades Cruise Terminal in Fort Lauderdale itself.

If you are looking to travel further afield to the Port of Miami, you may need to make your journey through a private travel service.

Miami hotel shuttle bus

Taxis and Uber Journeys

Another form of independent travel between airport and cruise terminal are taxis, which don’t require pre-booking. However, ordering a traditional taxi at the rank right outside the airport can be expensive, with a one-way trip costing at least $72, and these services are less flexible than more recent competitors in the taxi market.

For the best taxi experience consider an established rideshare app like Uber or Lyft. With established pick up and drop off points, and drivers who are familiar with the route and the time it will take, these services are a great reliable way to conduct your journey, with convenient free apps giving you the option of pre-booking your journey, and shared pool rides starting from as little as $32.

Unlike other services, rideshare apps charge for the use of car, not for each passenger, so your money can go a long way if you are travelling in a large party, with 4 people able to make the trip for as little as $40, that’s $10 each. Also, if you want to splash out a bit more, these apps can be used to book a high-end SUV for your journey, providing a costlier but more luxurious travel experience. All payments can be conducted securely through the app via credit card, meaning you don’t need to worry about getting a hold of cash.

Public Transport

Using the train to travel from FLL to the Port of Miami can be an incredibly cheap option, but does require more familiarity with the area, and may be a difficult journey to conduct with large parties bearing lots of luggage.

The journey consists of taking a Tri-Rail train to Miami International Airport (for under $5), before taking the Metrorail Orange Line (at around $2 a head), changing at the Freedom Tower stop to board a free train on the Coral Way Route to reach Port Miami. This journey can cost as little as $6, but requires a bit more work than laying back in a coach, and the extra effort required may not be welcome to those who want to relax as soon as they touch down at the airport, and cut down their journey time.

But for a well-travelled, single passenger or small party, this can be a great travel option at an unbeatable price.

Port of Miami Parking

If you are driving your own vehicle to the port, parking garages and lots are conveniently located at all the cruise terminals. There are designed parking spots in each garage for disabled permit holders, and a wheelchair accessible shuttle connects passengers from their vehicle to their cruise terminal.

If you are driving a recreational vehicle or have a trailer, there are spots for oversized vehicles at Lot 2 close to Terminal E. All parking facilities are patrolled by security.

All parking areas at cruise terminal and Lot 2 are open on cruise days only. Long-term parking states at around $22 per night. On non-cruise days, you will need to contact PortMiami or port security to gain access to your vehicle.

Payment for parking is available using major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. You can also pay using major U.S. Traveler’s Checks or cash. Parking at Garage J is only available on a pre-paid basis.

Affordable short term parking is available at two designated lots. These are great options for friends, family and others if you are being picked up. Cell phone waiting lots are found across from Terminal B and Terminal 2 (POMTOC).

Additional several Miami hotels offer cruise parking for the duration of your voyage. You pay a fee/ night to leave your car at the hotel or book a parking package which includes a night stay, shuttle service and cruise parking.

20+ Best Miami “Park and Cruise” Hotels (Free/Discount Parking)

Miami hotels with cruise parking can save you a bundle of money.

When it comes to budgeting for a cruise, everyone knows about the cost of the cruise itself. But most people (especially first-time cruisers) don’t realize that parking can be a huge expense as well.

Cruise hotel in Florida

The Port of Miami’s official parking costs a pricey $22 per day ($25-28 if sailing Royal Caribbean) or about $150 for a 7-day cruise! While some nearby independent lots charge significantly less, the price still adds up over the course of a week.

The good news is that you don’t have to shell out this money. A little-known tip is that many hotels in the area cater to cruisers. If you stay at least one night with them, they offer discounted parking during your cruise.

If you’re not planning to stay in a hotel, then buying a room simply for the parking isn’t likely worth it. But if you planned on staying in the area anyway, be sure to ask about parking during your cruise.

More Hotel Ideas: You can also click here to see inexpensive hotels near the Miami cruise port or see hotels with shuttles to the port area .

How to Book Parking During Your Cruise

Now, booking hotel parking for your cruise isn’t always as straightforward as you’d think. There are several different ways to get parking and how to book will depend on the specific hotel. While we’ve laid out all the details, it’s always a good idea to call the hotel directly before booking , as the offers can change.

1. Booking a hotel package: Many hotels offer packages through their website that include parking. Room rates are normally higher than what you’d pay without the parking package, but still more affordable than parking at the port.

2. Paying a per-night fee: Other hotels simply let you pay a daily parking fee while you leave your car there instead of booking a package.

3. Third-party hotel parking: Some hotels have started to work with third-party websites for parking. If you call the hotel, they will direct you to book with the website if you want to leave your car during the cruise.

Below, we’ve covered more than 20 Miami hotels with cruise parking offered. Click on each hotel name to read reviews and see pricing on Kayak.

For hotels that offer parking packages, you may have to book through the hotel website. It’s a good idea to compare the base rate with the parking deal to make sure you are saving money versus parking elsewhere.

That’s slightly cheaper than parking at the port if you planned to stay anyway. Note that during the night you stay, there is a $39 valet parking fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are park and cruise packages more expensive than regular hotel rates? In most cases yes, you will pay more for a parking package than you will if you just booked the cheapest no frills rate. For example, a hotel might be $150 a night normally, but charge $180 for the parking package. Still, the extra cost is lower than the price of parking at the Port of Miami, which charges $22 per day ($25-28 if sailing Royal Caribbean).

How do I get to my car after my cruise? Some hotels offer transportation round trip between the hotel and the cruise port. However, you might have noticed that some only offer one-way trips… and some no ride at all. You can get a taxi, Uber, or Lyft between the hotel and port for between $10-20, depending on the location.

I am sailing from Fort Lauderdale. Are there park and cruise hotels there? Yes. South Florida is a mecca of cruising. No matter which port you are sailing from in the area, it will have hotels nearby that cater to cruise passengers. While you aren’t likely to find many Miami hotels that cater to Fort Lauderdale passengers (and vice versa), you can read our Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) hotels with park and cruise packages .

The best cruises from Miami for every type of traveler

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

What are the best cruises from Miami? It’s a tough question to answer, in part because there are so many choices.

Miami has long been the cruise capital of the world, and even though it recently has been challenged by nearby Port Canaveral for the title of world’s busiest cruise port, it still offers one of the most diverse mixes of options when it comes to ships and itineraries.

Many of the world’s biggest cruise lines operate sailings from Miami, in some cases with multiple ships. On any given day, there can be as many as seven different cruise vessels sailing from the port.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG’s cruise newsletter .

The large number of options means that there’s a little something for everyone when it comes to Miami cruises. That’s great because the best Miami cruise for you may not be the same as the best cruise out of Miami for someone else, depending on your travel style.

Here we list our top picks for the best cruises from Miami for five different types of travelers.

Best cruises for families: Icon of the Seas

Quite a few family-friendly ships call Miami home, including vessels operated by such family cruise leaders as Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line. However, when it comes to the best cruises from Miami for families, there’s never been anything quite like the voyages in the works for Royal Caribbean’s soon-to-arrive-in-Miami Icon of the Seas .

Scheduled to debut in Miami in January 2024 and already available to book, the 5,610-passenger Icon of the Seas will be the biggest cruise ship in the world — more than 6% bigger than the biggest cruise vessel currently at sea.

That means it has more space than any other ship at sea for children’s clubs, waterslides, watery play areas and other family fun zones.

But it’s not just Icon of the Seas’ larger size that will make its sailings the best cruises out of Miami for families. The cruise line has designed the vessel — the first of a new class of ships — specifically to cater to families in a bigger way .

Icon of the Seas will offer more cabins with extra bunks to accommodate families with multiple children, including new room designs. Some family suites will even feature separate rooms for the little ones.

Related: The 5 best cruise lines for families

Many of these family-friendly accommodations will be near a new-for-the-line outdoor “neighborhood” called Surfside, which is dedicated to families with young children. As announced late last year, Surfside will feature splash areas for babies and kids, pools and lounge spaces for parents, family-friendly eateries and shops, and a bar with “mommy and me” matching mocktails for kids and cocktails for grownups.

The water park that Royal Caribbean plans for Icon of the Seas will be the largest ever built on a cruise ship. It will feature a record six top-deck waterslides and an unusual-for-Royal Caribbean ropes course. Teens and tweens have never had it so good.

Come January, Icon of the Seas will take the place of Royal Caribbean’s family-friendly Harmony of the Seas in Miami. If you’re looking for the best cruise out of Miami for families between now and January 2024, Harmony of the Seas is our pick. It’s almost as big as Icon of the Seas and similarly loaded with family-friendly attractions.

That said, if you’re a diehard Disney fan, be advised that the best family cruise from Miami for you is probably not a voyage on Icon of the Seas or Harmony of the Seas but one of the seasonal sailings that Disney Cruise Line offers out of Miami on the 1,754-passenger Disney Magic.

Unlike the Royal Caribbean ships, it’s not a new vessel with all the latest bells and whistles. In fact, it’s the oldest ship in the Disney fleet, dating to the 1990s. But it’s, well … a Disney ship. And if you’re a Disney lover, that’s probably all you need to know.

Best cruises for adults: Scarlet Lady

As of October 2021, the uncontested best cruises from Miami for adults are the four- and five-night sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean offered on Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady. That’s the month the new cruise line launched, promising to shake things up in the cruise world with a lively, adult-focused onboard experience unlike anything else in cruising.

Specifically designed for adults only — no children under the age of 18 are allowed on board — the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady is all about grownup fun. We’re talking everything from rollicking dance parties to a drag show.

Related: I’ve been on more than 150 cruise ships; here’s why I loved Scarlet Lady

Notably, Scarlet Lady offers many stylish, adult-oriented nightspots and bars, creating a hopping scene late into the night. Passengers are able to shake their phones to have Champagne delivered to wherever they happen to be standing, get inked at an onboard tattoo parlor and belt out tunes in a colorful karaoke lounge .

Unlike some other cruise lines, Virgin Voyages also eschews buffets, dress codes and big Broadway-style theater shows. In place of the latter, the line offers such entertainment as dance parties, DJ sets and unconventional performances in a multi-purpose room.

While initially dubbed the “cruise line for millennials” in media coverage, Virgin Voyages was designed to appeal to not just young adults but older adults who are “young at heart,” executives have said. In its first two year of operations, it’s been drawing passengers in a wide range of ages .

Best cruises for budget travelers: MSC Seascape

For years, the low-cost ships of Carnival Cruise Line were the go-to vessels for the best cruises out of Miami for budget travelers. But Carnival’s Miami-based ships have had new competition for the title in recent years from the even-lower-cost vessels of MSC Cruises — a fast-growing line that has been taking the Miami market by storm.

Our take is that the MSC Cruises ships sailing from Miami — particularly the just-out-of-the-shipyard-new MSC Seascape — are now the vessels to book if you’re looking for the best value in cruises from Miami.

Based in Miami year-round, the 4,550-passenger MSC Seascape operates alternating seven-night voyages to the Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean that sometimes sell for as little as $399 per person — or just $57 per day.

That’s a pretty amazing fare when you consider that it covers not just your room but meals on the ship, too.

Related: TPG’s guide to cruising from Miami

The ship’s Eastern Caribbean sailings typically are priced a tad lower than its Western Caribbean sailings (when we were pricing them for this guide, they started about $30 per person lower). The Eastern Caribbean trips call at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Nassau, Bahamas; and Ocean Cay , MSC Cruises’ private island in the Bahamas. The Western Caribbean voyages stop at Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Cayman Islands; Cozumel, Mexico; and Ocean Cay.

What’s striking about these low-priced sailings on MSC Seascape is that the ship is one of the newest and snazziest operating out of the Port of Miami, having just been unveiled in November 2022. Often, the lowest-cost cruises in any cruise port are on the oldest ships sailing from the port — vessels that don’t have the latest and greatest when it comes to onboard attractions and amenities.

Eighteen decks high and more than 1,100 feet long, MSC Seascape is loaded with family-friendly attractions, including multiple waterslides, a giant kiddie splash zone with a pirate ship theme and a robotic thrill ride. The latter, called Robotron , will flip you upside down and around as you dangle over the side of the ship.

Related: Our first impressions of MSC Seascape

MSC Seascape also offers 11 dining venues, 20 bars and lounges, a bustling casino, a sprawling spa and a showroom for big production shows.

Plus, there’s a giant “ship-within-a-ship” luxury zone loaded with suites and a private lounge and restaurant — one only accessible to well-heeled passengers who pay up for access. With fares for its rooms nearly 10 times higher than the starting rates for the ship’s basic cabins, The Yacht Club, as it’s called, is not a budget option. However, if you’ve got money to burn, you can check in here and feel like you’re living the high life.

In short, MSC Seascape is a big, bustling megaresort at sea of the sort operated by Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival. If it’s big ships with lots of activities you love, it’s a good choice if your budget is tight.

MSC Cruises has two other vessels based seasonally in Miami: MSC Magnifica and MSC Divina. MSC Magnifica mostly operates short three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. MSC Divina operates a wide mix of three- to 18-night sailings to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Best cruises for solo travelers: Norwegian Encore

The best cruises from Miami for solo travelers are those offered on Norwegian Cruise Line ‘s 3,998-passenger Norwegian Encore , as well as its sister vessels, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Escape.

This is largely because Norwegian Encore and its sister ships boast unusually large private zones for solo travelers — something you won’t find on the Miami-based vessels operated by Norwegian’s main competitors.

The so-called “studio” zones on Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Escape — vessels that all are part of the line’s recently unveiled Breakaway-Plus class of ships — have 82 special solo cabins apiece and a private Studio Lounge where solos can gather for happy hours and other events.

One other Norwegian ship that sometimes sails out of Miami, Norwegian Breakaway, has a similar solo zone with 59 cabins.

Only the studio zone on Norwegian’s 2010-built Norwegian Epic is bigger, but that ship doesn’t sail out of Miami.

A special zone for solo travelers is a concept that is rare in the cruise world, where almost all rooms for vacationers are designed for two people and sold with per-person fares that are based on two people occupying the room.

Solos staying in the solo cabins on the above vessels get exclusive access to the Studio Lounge (using their keycards), meaning a maximum of 59 to 82 people will share the space.

Related:  The best cruise lines for solo travelers

The solo cabins in the zones are small (measuring 100 square feet) but are superbly designed to maximize storage space (something I learned firsthand staying in one on Norwegian Epic).

Solos on Norwegian Encore and its sister ships also will find a bustling bar scene, with plenty of counter-style seating in bars that are a great place to meet other solo travelers and friendly guests.

All of the ships mentioned above are great for solos, but we put Norwegian Encore first among them because it’s the newest. Of all Norwegian’s ships, it has the widest array of onboard attractions including one of the longest go-kart tracks at sea , an epic, open-air laser tag course and a virtual reality play zone.

Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Breakaway are scheduled to rotate in and out of Miami for Bahamas and Caribbean sailings over the next two years. None of them operate out of Miami year-round, and typically they’re not in town at the same time. If you’re planning a solo cruise from Miami in the next couple years, you’ll want to search for which vessel is scheduled to sail from Miami when you want to travel.

Best cruises for unrivaled fun: Carnival Celebration

Looking for a cruise out of Miami that is all about fun? Look no further than the sailings on Carnival Cruise Line ‘s new Carnival Celebration .

Carnival famously markets itself as the Fun Ship line, and this massive, 19-deck-high ship takes the tagline to heart with loads of fun-focused activities. It’s got everything from a water park and ropes course to one of the first roller coasters at sea .

In the ship’s interior areas, you’ll find many bars, eateries and showrooms where fun is the focus, including restaurants where the waiters dance for you in between courses (something of a Carnival signature). The always-busy casino can be a fun zone for some, depending on the vagaries of Lady Luck.

Carnival draws a lively, outgoing crowd looking to be part of the action, and that’s what you’ll find on Carnival Celebration. The typical Carnival customer shoots up a hand when an entertainer asks for a volunteer to come on stage or jumps up to dance with the waiters during the dinner show. If this sounds like you, you’ve found your ship for a cruise from Miami.

Related: The ultimate guide to Carnival ships and itineraries

Just don’t expect anything too highbrow. Carnival is about fun in a laid-back, unpretentious, nothing-too-fancy way.

At 183,521 gross tons, Carnival Celebration is one of the biggest ships sailing regularly from Miami. With room for up to 6,630 passengers, it’s one of the most packed, too. Expect fun in the form of a bustling party at sea.

As for that roller coaster, just be warned that it’s not the biggest you’ve ever seen. Dubbed Bolt: Ultimate Sea Coaster, it has an 800-foot-long track and vehicles that can hit speeds of 40 miles per hour. When it comes to top-deck cruise ship fun, it’s hard to think of anything that compares.

Bottom line

Few ports in the world are home to as many cruise ships as Miami, which means cruisers have plenty of choices when it comes to sailings from the port. Almost all of the world’s biggest cruise lines — including Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian and MSC Cruises — operate departures regularly from the port, typically with multiple ships and on multiple itineraries.

What is the best cruise from Miami for you? That’ll depend on your personal interests and travel style. There are cruises from Miami that appeal to everyone, including family travelers, budget travelers and solo travelers.

The best cruises from Miami for every type of traveler

Twin Cities travelers left behind in Miami on overbooked cruise

Minnesotans stranded after cruise booking mishap.

Dozens of Twin Cities cruise passengers were left stranded in Florida after cruise ship booking issues with a travel agent and Carnival Cruises. FOX 9's Karen Scullin has the story.

(FOX 9) - A group of Twin Cities cruise passengers were left at the terminal last Sunday, watching as the ship left without them.

They blame the travel agent, who blames Carnival Cruise Lines. But Carnival puts it back on the agent. In any case, it was chaos for those who just wanted to sail away for a week.

One of the passengers, Cherie Goudeau, said she had been planning this cruise for a year as she was being treated for thyroid cancer. Then, when two family members passed away during that time, the trip with her sister, Dee Dee Richardson, became even more important.

But it all unraveled in a matter of minutes on the day they were supposed to leave.

A week ago, the sisters were on their way to Miami, excited about boarding the Twin Cities Takeover '90s Throwback Cruise on the Carnival Horizon for a much-needed spring break.

"I was looking forward to hearing some Juvenile, reliving some 90s music, the fresh food that was going to be on the boat, the burgers that were going to be on the boat, just hanging out with people," said Goudeau.

But when the pair went to the cruise terminal to board the ship last Sunday, their excitement quickly turned to confusion, anger, and disbelief. They were not going to be able to board.

"Then the next morning, we wake up, we get to the port, and they can’t find my name anywhere, I’m not tied to that room, somebody else is in that room," explained Goudeau.

They say their travel agent passed by and said she would fix things but did not and then disappeared.

"She comes back, she walks all past us assuring that we’re gonna get a room. This is what she tells us. She goes back on the ship, never comes back out, never says anything to us," said Goudeau.

Richardson added, "I feel like it’s unethical. How could you just leave that many people standing out there and everybody that was standing out there was booked under her."

Goudeau says she’s out $2,800 that she paid in June, along with the 50 people she was standing with on the pier.

"When she never came out to address people, and that boat was sailing off, and we were sitting on that port, people were in tears, people were upset, they were angry," said Goudeau.

In a statement on social media Thursday night, the travel agent, Monica Faulkner, said:

Faulkner is currently on the cruise, but FOX 9’s Karen Scullin spoke to her by phone. She says Carnival canceled a number of bookings on Feb. 21. She tried to re-book them the following day, but the ship sold out. She did not explain why the money was not returned then or why the clients were not notified.

Faulkner said their money is being held by Travel Joy, a company that independent agents use to collect payment for bookings. She said the money would be returned, but Richardson and Goudeau aren’t buying it.

"If you were gonna refund you would have refunded already. You would have been on that ship refunding people their money," said Goudeau.

The sisters stayed with family in Florida for the week. But they said some people tried to fly back and couldn't because of the snowstorm. Meanwhile, others said they sat outside booked hotels waiting for a cancellation. FOX 9 saw a couple of people on social media supporting Faulkner, who again, says she'll refund the money upon her Saturday return.

FOX 9 reached out to Travel Joy, but did not yet hear back.

Americans stranded by Norwegian Cruise save elderly passenger, family says: Ship 'left her to die'

Julie lenkoff, 80, was 'medically disembarked' from cruise and coincidentally stranded on same african island as six other americans.

Chris Eberhart

5 things you didn’t know about traveling on cruise ships

Norwegian Cruise Line forced an 80-year-old woman, who suffered a stroke and possible heart attack, to "medically disembark" on an African island and "left her to die," her family said.

That was on Wednesday, March 27, and the cruise line never called Julie Lenkoff's emergency contacts and had one conversation with the family between Wednesday and Monday without providing any answers, her family said.

Coincidentally, two days later, on March 29, six Americans and two Australian passengers were stranded on the same African island of São Tomé by Norwegian Cruise Line after their tour guide-led excursion ran late, and the ship's captain wouldn't let them board.

Jay and Jill Campbell, a South Carolina couple, were among the group of eight left behind. "They're heroes," Lenkoff's son-in-law, Kurt Gies, told Fox News Digital. "They saved our mother."

Authorities on the island told the group that another American was left behind without money or ID, according to Gies.

That's when the Campbells found out Lenkoff was in some medical facility, and took it upon themselves to help with medical needs, pay for food and a hotel room, and connect her with her family, Gies said.

"It was like our mother didn't exist," said Gies, calling the cruise line's lone statement issued over the weekend "false propaganda that Norwegian Cruise Line is pushing."

WARNING FOR CRUISE PASSENGERS AS SEXUAL ASSAULTS HIT NEW HIGH IN 2023: FBI

"The bottom line is Julie Lenkoff was not part of the group of people who were late getting back to the ship," he said. "They consistently lumped her into the rest of the group as being late to the ship all while not taking any responsibility for her care.

"All they did is send her to a local clinic who completely misdiagnosed her condition, releasing her to fend for herself."

"They didn't need to help her. They're scared to death, trying to get back to the ship, and they could've easily walked away," Gies said. "Instead, they took on a complete stranger and made sure she was safe."

While the Campbells and the six other passengers, including a pregnant Delaware couple, sorted through their own debacle about how to catch up with the ship, they worked with Gies and his wife to get Lenkoff back to the U.S.

The best of all bad options, Gies said, was a 30-hour flight from São Tomé to Lisbon, Portugal, to Toronto to Stanford Hospital in California "that no one was sure she would even survive."

But Lenkoff, described by her family as "the toughest, most independent woman," made it home and was admitted into the hospital, where she was still in doctors' care Monday night while Gies spoke to Fox News Digital.

He said she's doing better, but she couldn't see while she was in Africa and had trouble with her right side.

Lenkoff, a visitor to 120 countries who can speak 10 languages, resorted to French while she was in the medical facility on the African island, and they couldn't understand her and didn't even know she was an American, Gies said.

She was treated and released about 24 hours later, according to Gies, who said that's when she was "luckily" cared for by the Campbells and the rest of the stranded group of eight.

"SHE IS BACK AND SAFE!!!! Having an EKG right now," Lenkoff's daughter, Lana Lenkoff Wilken-Gies, wrote on Facebook shortly after 2 a.m. Monday. "She is definitely much more like her old self! Getting better everyday! Thank you for all of your prayers!"

Lana and Kurt's "relaxing" Easter trip to enjoy the California sun was interrupted by the cruise debacle and days of radio silence.

Even the company's original weekend statement to news outlets about the stranded eight made no mention of Lenkoff's situation.

NURSE HELPING AMERICANS IN ALLEGED BAHAMAS ATTACK WAS ‘SCARED’ BY WHAT SHE SAW: ‘COULD’VE BEEN MY DAUGHTERS

"They (Norwegian Cruise Line) originally said, ‘Sorry. There’s nothing we can do,' and that was it," Gies said when they first made contact with the cruise line.

"They had no answers to what happened, why her emergency contacts weren't called, who's taking care of her, where she is."

The only ones who cared were the Campbells, said Gies, who called them "heroes."

"This whole situation, we saw the two sides of humanity. Jill and Jay saved our mom when they didn't have to. But a mega-corporation with all the funds to help our mom and bring her home did nothing. They couldn't even give us answers."

Lenkoff had a goal of seeing 130 countries, and saved up for this $20,000 trip before COVID shut down travel.

"She was so excited about this," he said. "She lives to travel, but this is it. It was her last trip."

Norwegian Cruise Line's response to Lenkoff

Gies and his wife were furious when Norwegian Cruise Line did not acknowledge Lenkoff for days.

Norwegian Cruise Line released a statement over the weekend that said they left the Campbells, a pregnant Delaware woman and her husband, and four other passengers because they returned late from their excursion.

Even though the ship was still on the island and the island's Coast Guard brought the passengers to the ship, it's technically Norwegian Cruise Line's right to deny them entry to keep the three-week trip on time.

But that statement, included below, never mentioned the 80-year-old woman with a medical emergency that the cruise left behind.

Fox News Digital received statements early Tuesday morning, 24 hours after asking questions about both situations.

"During the same sailing, on March 27, 2024, a separate and completely unrelated unfortunate event occurred regarding a guest who was evaluated by our onboard medical team and later thought it best for her to be disembarked to receive further assessment and treatment as needed from a local hospital," the cruise line said in an email.

Full statement about Lenkoff's situation

"Following her disembarkation from the ship, our Care Team was immediately activated to provide support to the guest," the cruise line said in its statement.

"We attempted to call the guest several times, and as we were unable to reach her, we worked directly with our port agent in São Tomé and Príncipe, an African island nation, to receive updates about the guest.

"In instances such as these, as the guest was released from the hospital and in a coherent state, our protocol is to contact the guest directly, as we would not have the authority to share any medical details with anyone else without their expressed consent.

"The guest has since been escorted on a flight to Lisbon, Portugal, and then put in the care of airport staff to continue her journey to the United States, where she has now made a safe return."

Lenkoff's daughter shares thanks

Lana thanked everyone for their caring posts about her mom.

"Thank you all for your posts. (Regarding my previous post about my mom)," Lana wrote. "São Tomé is very primitive and doesn’t have hospitals that could treat her properly. She was on a group tour sponsored by the cruise line of a museum and collapsed and was unconscious.

"How or who was contacted to get her to the limited medical clinic we do not know. We just know that she was left by Norwegian Cruise Line without as much as calling her emergency contacts, or leaving her with her wallet, credit cards, or travel insurance papers at the clinic or maybe a note for her to read when she came to."

When she finally regained consciousness, Lana said she didn't remember anything that happened but was helped by "good Samaritans" that they later learned were Jay and Jill Campbell.

The two couples have been in communication with each other over the last few days.

Norwegian Cruise Line's full weekend statement

"While this is a very unfortunate situation, guests are responsible for ensuring they return to the ship at the published time, which is communicated broadly over the ship’s intercom, in the daily communication and posted just before exiting the vessel.

"Guests are responsible for any necessary travel costs to rejoin the ship at the next available port of call. When the guests did not return to the vessel at the all-aboard time, their passports were delivered to the local port agents to retrieve when they returned to the port.

"Our team has been working closely with the local authorities to understand the requirements and necessary visas needed if the guests were to rejoin the ship at the next available port of call. We are in communication with the guests and providing additional information as it becomes available."
